In this study, the activity concentration of NORMs were measured using gamma spectrometer, based on NaI(Tl) detector with Maestro-32 installed computer soft- ware. Accordingly, the average activity concentrations of 232Th, 238U, and 40K in soil samples were found 17.85±0.50, 40.16±0.54, and 271.46±0.07, respectively, which are lower than the average world recommended values given by UNSCEAR 2000 for Th and K, but higher for U decay series. In the same way, activity concentration of NORMs in food items cultivated from the irrigation site were measured and the highest activity concentrations were observed in bean samples. The transfer factors of 232Th, 238U and 40K from soil to food items were computed based on the measured activity values, and in most food items it is observed above the world average values. The consecutive chronic daily intake via ingestion for some food items from samples are also above the permissible limit. A systematic review with meta-analysis was conducted to analyze the effect of carbohydrate (CHO) intake during exercise and some variables that could moderate this effect on endurance performance. We included 136 studies examining the effect of CHO ingestion during endurance exercise in the meta-analysis. The overall effect on performance showed a significant increase after CHO intake compared to the placebo/control groups. A larger effect of CHO consumption is observed in time to exhaustion than in time trials performance test. Moreover, the effectiveness of CHO supplementation was greater the longer the duration of the events. Also, there seems to be a higher effect of CHO intake in lower trained than in higher trained participants. In contrast, the magnitude of performance change of CHO intake is not affected by the dosage, ergometer used, the type of intake of the CHO ingestion and the type of CHO. In addition, a lower rate of perceived exertion and higher power and heart rate are significantly associated with the ingestion of CHO during endurance exercise. These results reinforce that acute CHO feeding is an effective strategy for improving endurance performance, especially, in less trained subjects participating in time to exhaustion tests of longer durations. Extraluminal foreign bodies are rare. Fish bone is the most common foreign body ingested by adults, while coin is the most common foreign body ingested among children. Sharp pricking pain is a sign of sharp foreign body (FB) ingestion. If the symptom persists, one should keep in mind the possibility of a migratory foreign body, even if the esophagoscopy results are negative. In order to ensure that foreign bodies are not missed radiologically, there is the role of consultation from a second radiologist to correlate with the patient's symptoms. Here we present an atypical case of recurrent neck abscess due to a migrating fishbone that penetrated the left thyroid lobe and settled in the left lower third neck subcutaneous tissue within two months. Circadian desynchrony induced by shiftwork or jet lag is detrimental to metabolic health, but how synchronous or desynchronous signals are transmitted among tissues is unknown. We report that liver molecular clock dysfunction is signaled to the brain through the hepatic vagal afferent nerve (HVAN), leading to altered food intake patterns that are corrected by ablation of the HVAN. Hepatic branch vagotomy also prevents food intake disruptions induced by high-fat diet feeding and reduces body weight gain. Our findings reveal a homeostatic feedback signal that relies on communication between the liver and the brain to control circadian food intake patterns. As cocaine (COC) is not only incorporated into hair via blood following ingestion but also by external contamination, hair samples are commonly tested for COC metabolites to prove ingestion. However, COC metabolites can also be present as degradation products in typical street COC samples. The present study investigates minor hydroxycocaine (OH-COC) metabolites p - and m -OH-COC together with p - and m -hydroxybenzoylecgonine (OH-BE) in seized COC (n  = 200) and hair samples from routine case work (n  = 2389). Analytical results of hair samples were interpreted using an established decision model for the differentiation between actual use and external contamination using metabolic ratios (metabolite to COC). They were further examined concerning background of request, hair color, body site of sample collection, sex, and metabolic ratios of the main metabolites [benzoylecgonine (BE), norcocaine (NC), and cocaethylene (CE)]. All seized COC samples were positive for p - and m -OH-COC with a maximum percentage of 0.025% and 0.052%, respectively; p - and m -OH-BE were detected in 55% and 56% of samples with a maximum percentage of 0.044% and 0.024%, respectively. Analytical results of 424 hair samples (17.7%) were interpreted as being predominantly from contamination; the majority of these samples were from traffic medicine cases (83.7%). Metabolic ratios of minor OH-COC metabolites were significantly higher in hair samples interpreted as originating from use than in samples interpreted as caused by contamination. Metabolic ratios for OH-COCs were significantly higher in forensic cases compared to abstinence controls and also in black hair compared to blond/gray hair. However, this was not the case for OH-BE metabolic ratios. No statistical difference was observed with regard to the donor's sex. OH-COC metabolic ratios increased significantly with increasing ratios of NC and CE to COC, respectively. The study demonstrates that OH-COC metabolites (including thresholds for their metabolic ratios) must be used for a reliable interpretation of positive COC results in hair samples. Previous research has demonstrated the influence of commensal dining between humans on food choices, whereas we conducted two studies to examine how the presence of a robot might influence people's choices between meat‐heavy and vegetable‐forward meals in imaginary scenarios. In Study 1, participants were instructed to choose three desirable dishes from a set of two meat and two vegetable dishes while they imagined eating alone, with a human, or with a robot. Although the meat dishes were rated as more palatable and pleasant, the female participants chose fewer meat‐heavy meals when eating alone or with a robot than when eating with a human, whereas no such effect was observed for the male participants. We also replicated these patterns in Study 2, as the female participants chose fewer meat‐heavy meals when eating with a robot and a human than when eating with two humans. Collectively, these findings provide empirical evidence regarding how the presence of a certain robot can influence female consumers' food choices in imaginary scenarios, which has direct implications for the practice of promoting sustainable food choices. Background and Objectives: Blood establishments strive to ensure the safety and comfort of blood donors while minimizing adverse events. This review aims to assess the efficacy and effectiveness of eating and/or drinking interventions before, during and/or after blood donation in reducing vasovagal reactions (VVRs). Materials and Methods: We analysed randomized and non‐randomized controlled trials comparing eating and/or drinking interventions to no intervention, placebo or usual practice on (pre‐)syncopal VVRs and related symptoms. The GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation) approach was used to assess the risk of bias and overall certainty of the evidence. Results: Pre‐donation water ingestion likely results in reduced on‐site VVRs, compared to no water (2 fewer per 100 donors, moderate‐certainty evidence). A pre‐donation isotonic drink likely results in reduced VVRs, compared to usual practice (2 fewer per 100 donors, moderate‐certainty evidence). Pre‐donation salt‐loaded sweetened lemon water may result in fewer off‐site VVRs, compared to sweetened lemon water only (1 fewer per 100 donors, low‐certainty evidence). Pre‐donation water and a gel cap containing sucrose with 250 mg caffeine may result in fewer blood donor reaction ratings, compared to pre‐donation water only (low‐certainty evidence). Conclusions: Pre‐donation plain water ingestion or isotonic drink probably results in a large reduction in on‐site and off‐site VVRs. Pre‐donation water ingestion with caffeine consumption or salt supplementation may result in a VVR reduction, compared to water ingestion only. Microplastic is an environmental hazard to which both animals and humans are exposed. Current reports show that it can cause inflammation, including in the gastrointestinal tract. To examine the impact on the ileum, 15 eight-week-old gilts (five individuals/group) were exposed to PET microplastics (7.6 µm–416.9 µm) at a dose of 0.1 g/day or 1 g/day for 28 days. The collected ileum fragments were investigated for the cytokine concentrations (IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and TNF-α; ELISA test), neuron populations (cocaine and amphetamine-regulated transcript, galanin, neuronal nitric oxide synthase, substance P, vesicular acetylcholine transporter, and vasoactive intestinal peptide; immunofluorescence staining), and morphometric parameters (histological analysis). Under the influence of MP-PET, there was a reduction in the populations of CART- and GAL-positive neurons in the submucosal plexuses and of nNOS-, VAChT-, and VIP-positive neurons in all the plexuses. In contrast, there was an increase in GAL-positive neurons in the myenteric plexus and SP-positive neurons in all the plexuses. The concentrations of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and TNF-α did not undergo statistically significant changes under the influence of the low or high dose of MP-PET. The changes in the histological structure exclusively concerned the thinning of the mucosa and the muscularis externa. The results support the thesis that MP-PET is not neutral to the ileal cells. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine how sodium hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO3) ingestion during a 1-h recovery period after a 200-m front-crawl swim affects blood–gas levels, acid–base balance, and performance during a successive trial. Methods: Fourteen national-level male swimmers (age: 21 ± 3 years, body mass (BM):77 ± 10 kg, stature: 181 ± 7 cm) performed four maximal 200-m front-crawl tests. On one of the two days, the swimmers swam two 200-m tests with a 1-h recovery break, during which they drank water (WATER); on the other day, they performed the same protocol but consumed 0.3 g min−1 NaHCO3 solution during the recovery break (NaHCO3). Results: The ingestion of NaHCO3 before the second test had no effect on swim time despite a greater [ HCO 3 - ] (19.2 ± 2.3 mmol L−1) than that measured during the first test (NaHCO3) (14.5 ± 1.1 mmol L−1) and the other two tests (WATER) (12.7 ± 2.4 and 14.8 ± 1.5 mmol L−1; F = 18.554; p = 0.000) and a higher blood pH (7.46 ± 0.03) than that measured during the first test (NaHCO3) (7.39 ± 0.02) and the other two tests (WATER) (7.16 ± 0.04 and 7.20 ± 0.05); (F = 5.255; p = 0.004). An increase in blood pCO2 (0.2 ± 0.3 kPa) between both tests (NaHCO3) compared to unchanged pCO2 values (− 0.1 ± 0.3 kPa) between the other two tests (WATER) (t = − 2.984; p = 0.011; power = 0.741) was confirmed. Conclusions: NaHCO3 ingestion during the recovery period between two 200-m front-crawl time trials had a strong buffering effect that did not positively affect performance. Anemia is a public health problem that often occurs in adolescent girls in developing countries, including Indonesia, mainly due to iron deficiency. Iron supplementation has been implemented for anemia treatment, but there are some side effects for long-term use. The Indonesian Government also fortified wheat flour with iron and folic acid, but the efficacy of fortification remains unclear. Snake fruit seeds contain high iron (Fe) and vitamin C levels but they are usually thrown away. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the effects of jelly-containing snake fruit seed flour (SSF) and sugar, now called Jebisa, on macro and micronutrient intake and hematological profile in adolescent girls with anemia. Thirty tree adolescent girls from five public high schools in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, Indonesia, were randomly grouped into three categories: Control group (C) was given plain jelly with Fe tablets, and Treatment groups (T1-T2) were given jelly-containing 18.52 g and 37.04 g SSF, respectively, for 60 days. Data were analyzed using the one-way and repeated measures ANOVA tests followed by the Post Hoc Tukey and the Kruskal-Wallis test for non-parametric data. A significant value was set to p<0.05. The results suggested that the average daily energy intake, carbohydrates, and fibers significantly increased in the T1 and T2 groups compared to the C group (p<0.05). The average Fe intake in the T2 (19.59±1.70 mg/day) was significantly higher than that of T1 (10.74±2.40 mg/day) and C group (4.74±3.43 mg/day) with p<0.001. The T1 group had higher hemoglobin (Hb) levels (11.44±2.01 g/dL) than the C (11.04±1.92 g/dL) and T2 groups (10.89±0.67 g/dL) but were not significantly different. Feeding is regulated by energy homeostatic and pleasure-induced rewarding signals. Palatable food intake modifies serotonergic (5-HT) and dopaminergic (DA) pathways in nucleus accumbens, inducing neuronal maladaptations that favor hyperphagia for high-energy dense food and consequent obesity. Chronic stress is an environmental condition that increases the preference for palatable food by modulating brain DA and 5-HT metabolism. Objective: To evaluate the association between changes in accumbal 5-HT and DA metabolism and the effects of chronic stress, palatable food intake and their interaction with satiety/hunger condition. Methods: Wistar rats were housed in pairs (non-stressed) or individually (stressed), fed with chow or chocolate milk plus chow (Ch) for 2 weeks (4 groups); then 6 animals/group were 48 h fasted or maintained ad libitum; the rest were fasted and re-fed for 2 h either with chow or Ch. Results: Rats with prolonged high-energy density food intake and re-fed with chow showed reduced 5-HT metabolism, although there was no association with animals’ feeding behavior. In contrast, after re-fed with palatable food, stressed chow-fed rats had increased 5-HT turnover, which decreased in Ch re-fed rats, supporting that palatable food might induce positive mood changes related to high extracellular 5-HT in limbic regions. Discussion: Rats with prolonged palatable food intake exhibited high accumbal DA turnover independently of stress exposure, supporting its relation with the development of high-energy dense food hyperphagia. As accumbal 5-HT and DA metabolism changed due to fasting or re-feeding, alterations could represent the interaction of energy homeostatic and hedonic feeding signaling in animals. AbstractAsbestos is a group of naturally occurring fibrous minerals that were commonly used in the construction of cement pipes for drinking water distribution systems. These pipes deteriorate and can release asbestos fibers into drinking water, raising concerns about potential risk to human health. The objective of this work was to synthesize human, animal, and in vitro evidence on potential health risks due to ingested asbestos in drinking water and evaluate the weight of evidence (WoE) of human health risk. A systematic review of epidemiological evidence was conducted, along with critical review of animal and in vitro evidence, followed by WoE evaluation that integrated human, animal, and in vitro evidence. The systematic review included 17 human studies with health outcomes mostly related to various cancer sites, with the majority focusing on the gastrointestinal system. The WoE evaluation resulted in very low levels of confidence or insufficient evidence of a health effect for cancers in 15 organ systems and for three non-cancer endpoints. While eight studies reported possible associations with stomach cancer in males, few high-quality studies were available to verify a causal relationship. Based on high-quality animal studies, an increased risk for cancer or non-cancer endpoints was not supported, aligning with findings from human studies. Overall, the currently available body of evidence is insufficient to establish a clear link between asbestos contamination in drinking water and adverse health effects. Rodent jaws evolved structurally to support dual functionality, for either biting or chewing food. Rodent hands also function dually during food handling, for actively manipulating or statically holding food. How are these oral and manual functions coordinated? We combined electrophysiological recording of muscle activity and kilohertz kinematic tracking to analyze masseter and hand actions as mice of both sexes handled food. Masseter activity was organized into two modes synchronized to hand movement modes. In holding/chewing mode, mastication occurred as rhythmic (~5 Hz) masseter activity while the hands held food below the mouth. In oromanual/ingestion mode, bites occurred as lower-amplitude aperiodic masseter events that were precisely timed to follow regrips (by ~200 ms). Thus, jaw and hand movements are flexibly coordinated during food handling: uncoupled in holding/chewing mode and tightly coordinated in oromanual/ingestion mode as regrip-bite sequences. Key features of this coordination were captured in a simple model of hierarchically orchestrated mode-switching and intramode action sequencing. We serendipitously detected an additional masseter-related action, tooth sharpening, identified as bouts of higher-frequency (~13 Hz) rhythmic masseter activity, which was accompanied by eye displacement, including rhythmic proptosis, attributable to masseter contractions. Collectively, the findings demonstrate how a natural, complex, and goal-oriented activity is organized as an assemblage of distinct modes and complex actions, adapted for the divisions of function arising from anatomical structure. These results reveal intricate, high-speed coordination of disparate effectors and show how natural forms of dexterity can serve as a model for understanding the behavioral neurobiology of multi-body-part coordination. Background: Hijab pin ingestion is common in the Kashmiri population, especially among young females. This is attributed to the tradition of wearing hijab in adolescent girls and young women. Aims and Objectives: The present study was conducted to identify the incidence of hijab pin ingestion in the Muslim females of Kashmir Valley. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in the Department of General Surgery SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, Srinagar, from February 2022 to December 2023. It was a prospective study comprising 60 female patients above the age of 12 years having a history of accidental ingestion of hijab pins. History and clinical examination were followed by chest and abdominal radiographs. Data were collected and inferences were drawn. Results: The study included 60 patients presenting to the emergency with a history of accidental ingestion of pin. The majority of patients, that is, 30 (50%) were 25-35 years of age. Most patients 40 (67%) were asymptomatic at presentation with 20 (33.33%) patients presenting to the hospital within 2-3 h of ingestion. Foreign body (FB) had reached the small intestine in 22 (36.67%) patients at the time of presentation. Moreover, 1 (1.67%) patient had extraluminal migration of the FB. In our study, 46 patients had a normal passage of FB through the gastrointestinal tract. Most of the patients, that is, 46 (76.67%) were managed conservatively. Only 2 (6.67%) patients needed surgical intervention. Conclusion: FB ingestion is common among the young females of Kashmir Valley. Adequate follow-up is necessary to prevent long-term complications. Caffeine (CFF) is efficiently absorbed after ingestion, and approximately 80% of ingested CFF is metabolized to paraxanthine (PXT). Although PXT has approximately twice the adenosine receptor antagonist activity of CFF, there are few reports measuring the metabolite concentrations during CFF intoxication. Furthermore, no studies have examined the efficacy of hemodialysis (HD) on PXT or the indicators that contribute to treatment strategies for patients with acute CFF intoxication. This study analyzed the association between CFF and PXT blood levels, the blood biochemical data, and the vital signs of 27 cases with information on CFF intake and elapsed time data. It was found that HD was not as effective as CFF against PXT in CFF intoxication; however, HD was effective in cases with relatively high PXT concentrations (>10 μg/mL). Simultaneous analysis of CFF and PXT would make it possible to estimate the time elapsed from CFF intake and the risk of hyperCKemia, which may develop in cases left untreated for a prolonged period after ingestion. Therefore, the measurement of PXT, in addition to CFF, is expected to provide useful information for understanding the pathogenesis of CFF intoxication and the development of treatment strategies of acute CFF intoxication. Joaquín les gusta is the Spanish phrase that animates this article. It forms our entrance into human-animal relations in a small village in Galicia, in the north of Spain. Here, we explore a particular kind of love for animals that is condensed in the Spanish word gustar. The gut-level love implied stretches all the way from the attentive care for a beloved animal, to its slaughtering, its dedicated cooking, and the savouring of its meat during a festive meal. We did not borrow the term gustar from scholarly literature to take to our fieldsite, but worked the other way around and distilled it from our fieldwork. Our hope is that this term might help other scholars to ask if, in the sites and situations with which they are confronted, some form of gustar might also flow between animals and humans. Microplastics (MPs) are released into the environment through human activities and are transported by rivers from land to sea. Biofilms, which are ubiquitous in aquatic ecosystems such as rivers, may play an essential role in the fate of MPs and their ingestion by biofilm protists. To assess this, biofilms were naturally grown on clay tiles in the River Rhine, Germany, and analysed in a combined field and laboratory study. Compared to the ambient river water, biofilms grown for 6, 12, and 18 months in the River Rhine contained up to 10 times more MPs. Between 70% and 78% of all MPs were smaller than 50 μm. In laboratory experiments, clay tiles covered with 1‐month‐old naturally grown biofilm retained 6–12 times more MPs than clay tiles without biofilm coverage. Furthermore, the ingestion of MPs of 6 and 10 μm by the ciliate Stentor coeruleus was confirmed, and a positive correlation between ingestion rates and ambient MP concentrations was found. The results are relevant for particle transport models in riverine systems, risk assessment of MPs regarding their distribution and fate in the aquatic environment, and the effects of MPs on micro‐ and macroorganisms. The gut–brain axis plays a pivotal role in the finely tuned orchestration of food intake, where both homeostatic and hedonic processes collaboratively control our dietary decisions. This interplay involves the transmission of mechanical and chemical signals from the gastrointestinal tract to the appetite centers in the brain, conveying information on meal arrival, quantity, and chemical composition. These signals are processed in the brain eventually leading to the sensation of satiety and the termination of a meal. However, the regulation of food intake and appetite extends beyond the realms of pure physiological need. Hedonic mechanisms, including sensory perception (i.e., through sight, smell, and taste), habitual behaviors, and psychological factors, exert profound influences on food intake. Drawing from studies in animal models and human research, this comprehensive review summarizes the physiological mechanisms that underlie the gut–brain axis and its interplay with the reward network in the regulation of appetite and satiety. The recent advancements in neuroimaging techniques, with a focus on human studies that enable investigation of the neural mechanisms underpinning appetite regulation are discussed. Beef and dairy cattle commonly ingest soil when consuming forage-based diets in paddock feeding situations. However, the extent of this soil intake is poorly understood in the Australian environment and under Australian grazing systems. Therefore, the aim of the current literature review was to examine soil ingestion in cattle and the factors that affect ingestion. We found 11 studies containing soil-ingestion data, based in England, France, New Zealand and USA but none from Australia. A wide range in soil ingestion rates was reported and intake varied considerably with season, forage-pasture type, pasture-on-offer, stocking rate and grazing conditions. Generally, soil ingestion was lower in beef cattle than in dairy cattle. We considered the differences in reported levels, variables around those differences, and reliability of methodology used, and compared results with existing international guidelines. For Australian applications, we deduced and recommended that 0.5 kg/head.day is used until field-based research is conducted in Australia which might provide a more specific value for Australian conditions. Our review will inform future livestock management, particularly on contaminated agricultural land. In Australia, there is a poor understanding of how much soil cattle ingest while grazing. We conducted a literature review and found 11 papers to inform our views, but there were no published papers from Australia. Ingestion levels varied among countries, and between dairy and beef enterprises. We estimated that cattle ingest about 0.5 kg/head.day; however, this varies according to circumstance. Discussion of affordance perception focuses almost exclusively on affordances for non-mental actions like climbing, walking and eating. This paper asks whether we might also perceive affordances for a specific class of mental action: acts of imagination. We first explore how the environment can present opportunities for imaginative action. We then combine phenomenological and theoretical considerations to argue that we do indeed perceive affordances for imaginative action. Cette étude a pour objectif d'obtenir une vue d'ensemble sur les techniques de refroidissement et de réchauffement mise en place par les paraplégiques et les tétraplégiques lors de la pratique d'une activité physique. Utilisation de la méthode PICO (participants, intervention/exposition, comparaison, outcomes) afin de mettre en évidence les termes à utiliser pour la recherche des articles scientifiques. Lors d'une activité physique en ambiance chaude, différentes techniques de refroidissement ont été mises en évidence : vestes de refroidissement, pulvérisation d'eau sur le corps, ingestion de substances froides, refroidissement des mains et des pieds ou combinaison de plusieurs de ces techniques. Toutes ces techniques permettent de freiner l'augmentation de la température centrale comparée à un groupe contrôle. En ambiance froide, les sportifs tentent de se réchauffer à l'aide de vêtements chauds ou par la mise en place de stratégies efficaces pour maintenir leur température centrale entre la période de l'échauffement et la compétition. En ce qui concerne le sport en ambiance chaude, il existe différentes stratégies de refroidissement qui sont utilisées. Cependant, il y a un manque de preuves quant à la plus efficace. Pour le sport en ambiance froide, il n'y a que très peu d'études qui traitent de ce sujet. Des recherches doivent encore être réalisées afin de pouvoir objectiver quelles sont les meilleures techniques pour se réchauffer. During physical activity, athletes with a spinal cord injury have to face thermoregulation problems due to an alteration of their nervous system. The repercussion of the core body temperature depends on the climate. The aim of this revue was to obtain an overview of the cooling and warming techniques used by paraplegics and tetraplegics when practicing a physical activity. We used the PICO (participants, intervention/exposition, comparison, outcomes) method to highlight the terms we need for the search of scientific articles. During a physical activity in a hot environment, different cooling techniques have been demonstrated: cooling jackets, spraying water on the body, ingestion of cold substances, cooling of hands and feet or a combination of several of these techniques. All of these techniques have been shown to slow down the increase in core temperature compared to a control group. In a cold environment, athletes try to warm-up with warm clothes or by implementing effective strategies to maintain their core temperature between the warm-up period and the competition. Regarding sports in hot environments, there are different cooling strategies that are used. However, there is a lack of evidence as to which is most effective. Introduction. Foreign body (FB) ingestion represents a frequently encountered scenario in clinical practice. Most ingested FBs typically pass spontaneously, requiring no intervention. Endoscopic removal stands out as the least invasive method, with only a minimal 1% needing surgical intervention. Case Presentation. We present a case of a 30‐year‐old male who ingested multiple FBs located in the stomach and small bowel. While successful removal of the stomach FB was achieved through endoscopy, the second FB in the small bowel proved challenging due to perforation concerns and limited expertise. Given a history of prior surgical intervention resulting in a large incisional hernia, surgical removal was discouraged. Consequently, a collaborative decision involving surgeon and interventional radiologist (IR) led to the adoption of a fluoroscopic‐guided removal approach facilitated by IR techniques. Conclusion. We use our hands for many tasks and sensory orientations, including eating, communicating, and bathing. We hold, and manipulate a variety of objects, artifacts, and people, feeling for warmth, coldness, texture, hardness, and softness. We approach people or objects with greetings, embraces, and caresses, and to shove, hit, or defend ourselves against other people and potentially dangerous things. Yet just because our hands play such a central role in so many aspects our lives, they may also play an inordinate role in our memories and imagination. This paper highlights the place of hands in memory and imagination and how these memories and imaginings, in turn, affect not only how we use our hands and for what purposes, but with whom we use them and under what circumstances. The effects of two prepared feeds were tested on growth, survival, enzymatic activity, nutritive reserves in the digestive gland and oxygen consumption of Octopus maya juveniles. For the first time, a semihumid paste (HD, control) and a dry diet, in pelleted form (PD, experimental) with the same formulation were used for this species. The experiment lasted for 42 days. Results indicate that growth rates were similar for both diets (p > 0.05); however, survival (70%) was higher with the PD compared to the HD (48%) (p < 0.05). The performance index was higher for octopuses fed the PD (p < 0.05). No differences in acid proteases activity were observed. However, a higher activity of alkaline proteases in the octopuses fed the PD was observed (p < 0.05). Ingestion rate was higher for octopuses fed the PD. Routine energy inversion was similar in both treatments (p > 0.05). A greater energy inversion was observed in octopuses fed the PD, whose active metabolism was double compared to the octopuses fed the HD. Results showed that the PD promoted similar growth compared to the HD diet but favored survival, and a greater investment in the active metabolism, reflected in the apparent heat increase. Introduction: More than half of humans' Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) exposure comes from dietary ingestion. This study investigated the dietary pattern of Malaysian adults and its association with the detection of 5 PCB congeners in the plasma. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 129 patients with Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) attending the UiTM Primary Care Medicine (PCM) clinic. The participant's diet was assessed using a 128-item food frequency questionnaire. Results: PCB 206 was the most prevalent congener (74.4%) in the plasma of adults with MetS attending the UiTM PCM clinic, followed by PCB 180 (68.2%). The subjects' dietary patterns did not align with the Malaysia Healthy Plate concept, where consuming fruit and vegetables, grains, and proteins accounted for one-third portion of the plate each. Fish consumption significantly predicted PCB 180 level (AO: 1.0880, 95% CI: 1.0064, 1.0996, p=0.043). Meanwhile, the detection of PCB 206 in the plasma was influenced by dairy product consumption (AO: 1.0065, 95% CI: 1.0009, 1.0128, p=0.032) as well as fruits and vegetables consumption (AOR: 0.9982, 95% CI: 0.9968, 0.9996, p=0.014). Conclusion: The threat of PCBs is still prevalent in the population. A more effective strategy is needed to raise awareness and promote adherence to the Malaysian Healthy Plate concept among adults. Protoceratium reticulatum, a dinoflagellate species known for producing yessotoxins (YTX), can form harmful algal blooms (HABs) impacting marine life. This study examined how P. reticulatum influenced the physiological rates and affected the tissue health of juvenile scallops, Argopecten purpuratus. The scallops were exposed to non-toxic algae Isochrysis galbana (diet A) and mixtures where 30 and 70% of the non-toxic algae were replaced by the toxic algae P. reticulatum (diet B and C, respectively) for 15 days, followed by a 15-day recovery period (I. galbana). Results showed that the clearance rate (CR), inorganic ingestion rate (IIR), organic ingestion rate (OIR), and absorption rate (AR) were significantly reduced within the first seven days of exposure to toxic diets, with reductions of approximately 25% and 50% in diets B and C, respectively, compared to the non-toxic diet, and an increase in these parameters during the recovery stage. Histological observations revealed greater tissue damage in the digestive gland than in the gills, with a higher frequency of scallops with severe damage correlating with higher toxic diet content. Despite no direct impact on survival, the compromised physiological health of A. purpuratus juveniles suggests increased vulnerability to other stressors. These findings provide new insights into the filter-feeding behavior and selective filtration capabilities of scallops in the presence of toxic dinoflagellates and how scallops health can be compromised, contributing to the understanding of how HABs and associated toxins affect A. purpuratus. Myrmecophagy is one of the most common dietary specializations among vertebrates. Ants are an important food resource for many lizard species. Here, we use a large dataset on ant consumption by lizards (345 species, 33 families) to explore evolutionary and ecological correlates of myrmecophagy across the evolutionary history of lizards. Based on literature and previous empirical work, we develop and test the following hypotheses about myrmecophagy: (i) it does not occur randomly across Squamata; it is correlated with (ii) foraging mode, (iii) habitat, (iv) body size, (v) aridity, and/or (vi) species range size. We found that ant ingestion is not distributed randomly in the phylogeny, with higher ingestion concentrated in some Iguania. Myrmecophagy also evolved in Lacertoidea and it is a derived trait with relatively recent origin. Foraging mode, habitat, body size, and aridity do not influence ant ingestion. Species with smaller range sizes show high variability in ant ingestion, whereas lizards with larger ranges tend to eat a lower proportion of ants. This result confirms the general ecological pattern that specialization is more common in narrowly distributed species. We suggest that future studies should also explore dietary specialization more broadly and provide a better taxonomic resolution of ant species in the diet of lizards. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: This pilot study investigated the effects of a 12-week administration of a nutritional supplement containing special collagen peptides on the structural and molecular properties of the collagen fiber network in the human skin. For the assessments, the suction blister method and electron microscopical comparisons were used. Methods: Three suction blisters were generated on the inner forearm of each test subject before and after the 12-week administration of the nutritional supplement. High-resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was employed to meticulously investigate the structural characteristics of the skin's collagen network, including the length and diameter of collagen fibers within the suction blister roof. Furthermore, the analysis included immunohistochemistry and fluorescence light microscopy to study hyaluronic acid within the extracellular matrix. Additional assessments encompassed changes in various epidermal parameters. Nine female participants within the age range of 43.7–61.8 years (mean: 52.5 ± 5.9 years) completed the study in accordance with the study protocol. Results: Compared with baseline, the 12-week supplementation regimen led to a statistically significant average increase in the collagen fiber network size of 34.56% (p < 0.0001). Additionally, collagen fiber cross-linking and fiber length were substantially increased. The ingestion of the supplement also resulted in an 18.08% elevation in epidermal hyaluronic acid concentration (p < 0.0001). No adverse events were recorded during the study. Conclusion: Using an innovative approach, this study demonstrated the ability of a targeted nutritional supplement to effectively restore the ultrastructural integrity of the dermal collagen network, which is typically disrupted by the natural aging process of the skin. These findings not only corroborate existing data regarding the positive effects of oral collagen peptides on skin structure and function but also contribute to our understanding of ultrastructural morphological aspects of changes in the skin's collagen network. Supplementation can induce regeneration of the collagen fiber network in the human skin. Background: Caustic ingestions are relatively uncommon, but remain a significant source of morbidity. Patients with caustic injury often undergo an urgent EGD, although it is not clear if an EGD is routinely needed in an asymptomatic patient. The study has two primary objectives; 1) to determine the utility of routine EGD in asymptomatic suicidal caustic ingestions; 2) to determine if asymptomatic unintentional acidic ingestions can be managed with observation alone, similar to basic ingestions. Methods: This retrospective study, which took place at 14 hospitals in three countries evaluated all patients who presented with a caustic ingestion between 2014–2020. The presence of symptoms and esophageal injury, demographic information, pH of ingested substance, reason for the ingestion, and outcome were recorded. Results: 409 patients were identified; 203 (46.9%) were male. The median (IQR) age was 18 (4–31) years; overall range 10 months to 78 years. Suicidal ingestions accounted for 155 (37.9%) of cases. Dysphagia or dysphonia were more likely in those with significant esophageal injury compared to those without (59.3% vs. 12.6% respectively; OR 10.1; 95% CI 4.43–23.1). Among 27 patients with significant esophageal injury, 48% were found in suicidal patients, compared with 51.9% in non-suicidal patients (p = NS). On multivariate regression, there was no difference in the rate of significant esophageal injury among suicidal vs. non suicidal patients (aOR 1.55; p = 0.45, 95% CI 0.45–5.33). Most ingestions involved basic substances (332/409; 81.2%). Unknown or mixed ingestions accounted for 25 (6.11%) of the ingestions. Significant esophageal burns were found in 6/52 (11.5%) of acid ingestions, compared with 21/332 (6.3%) of basic ingestions. Of the 42 cases of acidic ingestions without dysphagia or odynophagia, 2 (4.8%; 0.58–16.1%) had significant esophageal burns, compared with 9 (3.2%; 95% CI 1.4–5.9%) of the 284 basic ingestions; p = 0.64). On multivariate logistic regression, patients with acidic ingestions were not more likely to experience a significant burn (aOR 1.7; p = 0.11, 95% CI 0.9–3.1) compared to those with basic ingestions. No patient with significant esophageal burns was asymptomatic. Conclusion: In this study, there was no statistical differences in the rates of significant burns between acidic and basic caustic ingestions. Food and life are intimately entangled. To grasp the underlying complexity of this seemingly simple statement, this article first introduces the approach to food/eating as an assemblage enacted by various heterogeneous components, and further develops it by engaging with actor network theory and material semiotics. Thereafter the focus turns to 'entanglement', as inspired by quantum physics, to elicit the basic dynamics of the entanglement of food and more-than-human beings, conceived of as involving mutual and differential becomings within and among assemblages. The article illustrates these entangled becomings by drawing upon examples from Sri Lanka, which in an intercultural philosophical fashion serve to establish an articulation (in the sense of a connection) between the proposed abstract approach to food and some basic premises of Buddhism and Ayurveda, a South Asian health system. Overall, the article crafts a conceptual toolbox and performs ontological groundwork wherein food and human beings as entangled assemblages provide a productive, refined, and sensitive research apparatus for the intimate study of more-than-human life and organization while also spurring novel theorizations through food/eating. There appears to be no attempt to categorize the specific classes of behavior that the tactile system underpins. Awareness of how an organism uses touch in their environment informs understanding of its versatility in non-verbal communication and tactile perception. This review categorizes the behavioral functions underpinned by the tactile sense, by using three sources of data: (1) Animal data, to assess if an identified function is conserved across species; (2) Human capacity data, indicating whether the tactile sense can support a proposed function; and (3) Human impaired data, documenting the impacts of impaired tactile functioning (e.g., reduced tactile sensitivity) for humans. From these data, three main functions pertinent to the tactile sense were identified: Ingestive Behavior; Environmental Hazard Detection and Management; and Social Communication. For this study, a three-species food chain model that considers interactions between small fish, remora fish, and large fish has been developed. It is assumed that large fish consume small fish through the functional response of Holling type II. Remora fish are considered to benefit from eating the remaining parts of small fish hunted by larger fish. Remora fish may benefit from eating the parasites found in the bodies of large fish. The non-negativity and boundedness of the solution of the model are investigated. In addition, each potential stable state for the model has been determined. We also investigated the local stability of the model, which is close to the steady state. The Lyapunov function and geometric technique are used to investigate the global stability of the model. It has been found that the increase in the refuge rate for small fish contributes to the instability of the model. It has been observed that the model may show unstable behaviour due to an increase in the rate of consumption of small fish by big fish. Summary: Background: In April 2022, French Lentil and Leek Crumble (FLLC), a new frozen food preparation manufactured by Daily Harvest™ (containing Tara flour) was offered as a natural high‐protein meal product. Soon thereafter, widespread anecdotal reports of acute gastrointestinal symptoms with liver injury were reported, leading to its voluntary withdrawal in June 2022, after shipment of 28,000 preparations. Aims: To summarise the clinical and laboratory features of 17 patients with FLLC associated liver injury from the Drug Induced Liver Injury Network (DILIN). Methods: Patients with FLLC‐associated liver injury were enrolled into a prospective protocol and followed for 6 months. Cases were adjudicated by expert opinion causality assessment with summary statistics for data analysis. Results: Enrolled subjects had a mean age of 41 years, 82% were female with mean BMI of 24 kg/m2. All were Caucasian without underlying liver disease. In most cases, abdominal pain and nausea arose within hours of FLLC ingestion. Mean days from ingestion to identification of liver injury was 3.1 days (±2.8). On enrolment, 53% had jaundice, 47% nausea, 24% fever, 59% abdominal pain, 41% itching and 12% rash. The mean initial serum ALT was 475 U/L (±302), AST 315 U/L (±315), alkaline phosphatase 190 U/L (±76), with a total bilirubin of 2.6 mg/dL (±2). In this study, 63% presented with a hepatocellular pattern of liver injury, 6% cholestatic and 31% mixed as determined by the R value. In addition, 24% of patients were hospitalised, and there were no fatalities or liver transplants. Liver biopsy in one subject revealed acute hepatitis with mild ductular reaction, mild lymphocytic and eosinophilic portal inflammation, mild lobular inflammation, preserved bile ducts and absence of interface hepatitis, steatosis, granulomatous reaction or cholestasis. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed the presence of Tara spinosa, the source of Tara flour. Conclusions: Natural food products are increasingly ubiquitous and may unexpectedly cause significant illness. AbstractObjective: Prevalence of disordered eating among college students is concerning, but professional help-seeking rates are low. This study examined barriers and facilitators of help-seeking for eating, weight, and shape concerns in this population. Participants: A non-clinical sample of undergraduates (N = 134; 64.7% females; 63.9% White; 61.7% freshman) were recruited from a research pool. Methods: Participants reported on help-seeking barriers, facilitators, intentions, and behaviors, as well as disordered eating, anxiety, and depression. Results: Commonly endorsed facilitators of help-seeking for disordered eating included desire to get better and other mental health issues. Commonly endorsed barriers highlighted themes of self-reliance. Recent and lifetime help-seeking behaviors suggested preferences for informal sources of help. Greater disordered eating predicted more endorsed facilitators of help-seeking, whereas greater depression predicted more endorsed barriers. Conclusion: Findings—highlighting self-reliance and preferences for informal sources of help—can facilitate efforts to better serve students who may be experiencing disordered eating. Overexpression of the agouti-signaling protein (asip1), an endogenous melanocortin antagonist, under the control of a constitutive promoter in zebrafish [Tg(Xla.Eef1a1:Cau.Asip1]iim4] (asip1-Tg) increases food intake by reducing sensitivity of the central satiety systems and abolish circadian activity rhythms. The phenotype also shows increased linear growth and body weight, yet no enhanced aggressiveness in dyadic fights is observed. In fact, asip1-Tg animals choose to flee to safer areas rather than face a potential threat, thus suggesting a potential anxiety-like behavior (ALB). Standard behavioral tests, i.e., the open field test (OFT), the novel object test (NOT), and the novel tank dive test (NTDT), were used to investigate thigmotaxis and ALB in male and female zebrafish. Results showed that the asip1-Tg strain exhibited severe ALB in every test, mainly characterized by pronounced freezing behavior and increased linear and angular swimming velocities. asip1-Tg animals exhibited low central serotonin (5-HT) and dopamine (DA) levels and high turnover rates, thus suggesting that central monoaminergic pathways might mediate melanocortin antagonist-induced ALB. Accordingly, the treatment of asip1-Tg animals with fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), reversed the ALB phenotype in NTDT as well as 5-HT turnover. Genomic and anatomical data further supported neuronal interaction between melanocortinergic and serotonergicsystems. These results suggest that inhibition of the melanocortin system by ubiquitous overexpression of endogenous antagonist has an anxiogenic effect mediated by serotonergic transmission. Summary: Diachronic research of social status differences in diet reveals a dynamic interplay of cultural, economic, and technological forces that have shaped the food choices of individuals across the past centuries. In this paper we focus on food and related practices at Palatial Knossos on Crete in the mid‐second millennium BC and review palaeodietary stable carbon and nitrogen isotope (δ13C and δ15N) data from two cemeteries to explore evidence for embodied social variation during the site's uncontested heyday in the Neo‐palatial Period (c.1700 to 1500 BC). We show that analysis by sex and tomb suggests no significant social differentiation in access to food resources. Instead, temporal trends reveal increased availability of animal protein during the Neo‐palatial period, aligning with Knossos' political and economic supremacy. We argue that the equitable living circumstances at Knossos during the Neo‐palatial period may have contributed to the absence of factional competition and social unrest, potentially explaining the site's continuity into Post‐palatial times despite widespread destructions elsewhere on Crete. Key Clinical Message: Shiitake mushroom‐induced flagellate dermatitis is a rare but important condition to consider in patients presenting with pruritic skin lesions following mushroom ingestion, especially in regions where such cases are uncommon. Early recognition and appropriate management with oral and topical steroids are crucial for effective symptom resolution and preventing complications. Clinicians should be aware of the characteristic rash and the temporal relationship between mushroom consumption and rash onset. Restrained eating is becoming widespread recently. The present study aimed to examine whether peer appearance teasing was positively associated with restrained eating among Chinese adolescent girls and whether this association was mediated by fear of negative appearance evaluation (FNAE) and body surveillance. A sample of 720 Chinese adolescent girls completed questionnaires on peer appearance teasing, FNAE, body surveillance, and restrained eating. Peer appearance teasing was significantly and positively related to girls' restrained eating. FNAE mediated the relationship between peer appearance teasing and restrained eating. Furthermore, the association between peer appearance teasing and restrained eating was sequentially mediated by FNAE and body surveillance. The findings of this study provide new insights into the development of restrained eating among adolescent girls, and highlight peer appearance teasing and body surveillance as potential targets for intervention programs regarding body image concerns and eating disorders. Purpose: Promoting healthy dietary habits is a concern for public health due to the association between unhealthy diets and nutrient-related diseases. This paper aims to examine the relationship between individuals' temporal dietary behaviour and perceptions of the effect of dietary habits on physical health and how these perceptions influence two important aspects of eating behaviour, i.e. daily consumption of healthy food and self-reported extra payment for healthy food options. Design/methodology/approach: Cross-sectional data on 457 young Chinese adults within the age category of 18–30 years were collected through a survey. Two subscales (immediate and future) were obtained from the consideration-of-future-consequences (CFC)-12 scale through a factor analysis. A seemingly unrelated regression was estimated to determine whether CFC impacts behaviour through an awareness of the consequences of one's dietary habits. Findings: Individuals who are more focused on immediate gratification were more likely to perceive their current dietary habit have a negative effect on their physical health (p < 0.001). In contrast, those who prioritise the future benefits were less likely to perceive negative health effects from their dietary habits (p < 0.001). However, the perception of negative consequences of dietary habit on physical health did not motivate healthier eating daily (p < 0.001) nor allocating more money towards eating healthy (p < 0.001). Background: Dietary habits strongly influence health, with poor diets contributing to numerous deaths annually. Addressing this requires improved dietary habits and consistent monitoring thereof. In northern Sweden, a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) has been used for decades, but trends show that its ability to accurately measure intake has diminished. With changing eating habits and food supply, updating the FFQ was crucial, leading to the development of FFQ2020. This study assessed FFQ2020's relative validity using 24-hour recalls and evaluated its reproducibility. Methods: Participants were recruited from one of the northern-Sweden population-based health screenings and by advertising. Food intake was registered in an electronic food frequency questionnaire (FFQ2020) (test instrument) and reference data were obtained by six repeated electronic 24-hour dietary recalls (24HDR). Intakes of single foods were aggregated into food groups and healthy diet index scores, and daily energy and nutrient intakes were estimated. Results from the two methods were described and tested in univariate analyses and correlation tests, Bland Altman plots, cross-classification validity, and intra-class correlation analyses. Results: Totally, 628 adults were invited to participate in the study. Of these, 320 joined, and 244 completed at least four 24HDRs. The median intakes in food groups, as well as the mean index scores and estimated nutrient intakes, were largely similar between the FFQ2020 and 24HDR recordings. The correlation coefficients between the two assessments ranged from 0.253 to 0.693 for food groups, 0.520 to 0.614 for diet indices, and 0.340 to 0.629 for energy and nutrients. Intra-class correlation coefficients indicated at least good reproducibility for intakes of food groups, diet index scores, and nutrients. Generally, Bland-Altman plots did not reveal any gross systematic disagreement between the two methods for any of the assessments. However, there were single observations located outside the upper or lower 95% confidence interval (CI) limits for the difference between FFQ2020 and the 24HDR recordings. Conclusion: In concert, the results suggest that the relative validity and reproducibility of FFQ2020 are acceptable for trend analyses and group comparisons in large-scale studies but also that extended reference periods would improve the precision of less frequently consumed foods. Introduction: Eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties are commonly reported morbidities for individuals born with OA/TOF. This study aimed to determine the nature and prevalence of eating, drinking and oro-pharyngeal swallowing difficulties reported in this population. Method: A systematic review and meta-proportional analysis were conducted (PROSPERO: CRD42020207263). MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science databases and grey literature were searched. Quantitative and qualitative data were extracted relating to swallow impairment, use of mealtime adaptations and eating and drinking-related quality of life. Quantitative data were summarised using narrative and meta-proportional analysis methods. Qualitative data were synthesised using a meta-aggregation approach. Where quantitative and qualitative data described the same phenomenon, a convergent segregated approach was used to synthesise data. Results: Sixty-five studies were included. Six oro-pharyngeal swallow characteristics were identified, and pooled prevalence calculated: aspiration (24%), laryngeal penetration (6%), oral stage dysfunction (11%), pharyngeal residue (13%), nasal regurgitation (7%), delayed swallow initiation (31%). Four patient-reported eating/drinking difficulties were identified, and pooled prevalence calculated: difficulty swallowing solids (45%), difficulty swallowing liquids (6%), odynophagia (30%), coughing when eating (38%). Three patient-reported mealtime adaptations were identified, and pooled prevalence calculated: need for water when eating (49%), eating slowly (37%), modifying textures (28%). Mixed methods synthesis of psychosocial impacts identified 34% of parents experienced mealtime anxiety and 25% report challenging mealtime behaviours reflected in five qualitative themes: fear and trauma associated with eating and drinking, isolation and a lack of support, being aware and grateful, support to cope and loss. Conclusions: Eating and drinking difficulties are common in adults and children with repaired OA/TOF. Oro-pharyngeal swallowing difficulties may be more prevalent than previously reported. Eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties can impact on psychological well-being and quality of life, for the individual and parents/family members. This research study focused on the primary freshwater surface sources of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, Pakistan—Swat and Kabul rivers. The study aimed to assess microplastic (MP) contamination of fish in the Swat and Kabul rivers. Understanding this contamination is vital for evaluating the environmental and health risks associated with consuming contaminated fish and contributing to the ongoing conservation efforts. The study's objective was to investigate the presence of MPs in the gastrointestinal tracts (GIT) of fish and to delineate the identified MP types. Samples of local dominant fish (Schizothorax plagiostomus [Swatay] and Racoma labiata [Chunr], Cyprinus carpio [Common Carp], and Clupisoma naziri [Sher Mayai]) were collected, and their body weight and length assessed to gauge the overall health. The GIT samples were processed, digested and filtered before microscopic examination to detect MPs. Subsequently, the identified MPs were subjected to attenuated total reflectance–Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for characterization by analyzing their absorption bands. Results of the study showed the presence of MPs in fish samples, predominantly identified as polyethylene (PE), with polypropylene (PP) being the subsequently prevalent plastic type, which manifested fish contamination with MPs. The study revealed MP pollution in both Swat and Kabul rivers, with fish ingesting these particles. This poses potential health risks for fish and health of the ecosystem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Lupin beans, a yellow legume seed from the Lupinus plant, are commonly used in Southern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. Despite their bitter taste, lupin beans are highly nutritious and rich in protein, making them popular snacks. The bitter taste is due to the presence of over 150 quinolizidine alkaloids, with Lupanine being the predominant alkaloid. If not properly debittered before ingestion, lupin toxicity and anticholinergic symptoms can occur. Case Presentation: A 49-year-old healthy Egyptian man presented with symptoms such as dry mouth, unsteadiness, constipation, and urinary retention for 6 hours. After investigation, it was discovered that he had consumed 400 g of bitter lupin beans within a 1-hour period, around 4-6 hours before the symptom onset. The patient was oriented, conscious, and alert, showing no signs of pain or distress. His vital signs were normal, and he had normal cardiovascular, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and neurological examinations. His eye examination revealed fixed, dilated pupils bilaterally, blurry vision, and normal eye movement bilaterally. Laboratory tests were normal. The patient received Ringer's lactate intravenously and was closely monitored in the emergency department. Over a 3-hour period, all symptoms and signs resolved with fluid management alone, and the patient was discharged home following his improvement. Conclusion: This report highlights the importance of history taking in diagnosing food-related diseases and emphasizes that physicians should consider lupin toxicity as a differential diagnosis in cases presenting with anticholinergic symptoms.
