Introduction: The objective was to establish an explanatory model of life satisfaction as a function of negative emotions mediated by the psychopathological severity index, as well as to describe and compare psychopathological symptomatology as a function of sociodemographic variables. Methodology: The research design was non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive and structural equation modeling. The sample consisted of 1965 Peruvians of both sexes aged 17 to 71 years. The instruments used were the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Abbreviated Scale (DASS 21), Symptom Assessment-45 Questionnaire (SA-45) and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). Results: The structural regression model shows that negative emotions have a positive effect (R2 = 64%) on the global severity index (GSI) of psychopathological symptomatology and in turn the latter has a negative impact (R2 = 23%) on the life satisfaction of Peruvians. Among the psychopathological symptoms, psychoticism (19.64%), followed by phobic anxiety (19.44%) and depression (19.03%) stand out. In the macroregions, the GSI varied between 12.54% and 19.32%, with the lowest GSI in the northeastern macroregion and the highest in the north. Conclusions: Significant differences in psychopathological symptomatology were found according to macroregions, sex, age, having children, having a family member infected or deceased by COVID-19. Lung cancer (LC) is one of the most common types of cancer disease worldwide. Studies in the field show that the appearance of a pathology of this form causes changes not only in the patient's life, namely psychological problems, functional limitations and poorer health due to the clinical consequences of treatments, but also in their family, where caregivers often face the challenge of providing long-term daily care that induces a physical, psychosocial and financial burden (Borges et al., 2017; Hewitt et al., 2003; Tan et al., 2018). The main objective of the present study is to compare and relate the two groups (patients and caregivers) considering the quality of life (QoL) and symptoms of psychological distress (anxiety and depression). The total sample consisted of 30 patient/caregiver dyads. The instruments used were: Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale; European Organization for Research and Treatment of Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ C-30) and its specific module for lung cancer (LC13); Caregiver Oncology Quality of Life Questionnaire (CarGOQoL) and Zarit Burden Interview Scale (ZBI). The results suggest the influence of depressive symptomatology on patients' QoL [F(1)=6.390; p<0.05] and depressive and anxious symptomatology and burden on caregivers' QoL [F(3)=7.815; p<0.001]. A positive association was found between depressive symptomatology of patients and caregivers (r=0.458; p=0.011) and differences in anxious symptomatology were also observed, with a higher result in the patient's group. The present study had as main objective to analyze the presence (or not) of psychopathological symptomatology in the parents of children with ASD (autism spectrum disorder), as well as to study their degree of satisfaction with social support. For this effect, a sample of 246 parents in which at least a son is a bearer of ASD was investigated. Three instruments were used, namely Sociobiographical questionnaire; Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI; Derogatis, 1982, portuguese version of Canavarro, 1999); and Social Support Satisfaction Scale (Pais-Ribeiro, 2011). The results indicated that: (1) mothers of the children with ASD present higher levels of psychopathological symptomatology than the fathers; (2) parents with 3 or more children present higher rates of satisfaction with the family comparatively to the parents with 1 or 2 children; (3) there are a negative correlation between all the dimensions of the social support and of the psychopathological symptomatology; (4) female is a predictor for some of the psychopathological symptoms dimensions. Over the last decades, the bullying phenomenon had countless repercussions, however, it still remains an issue that need to be addressed according to a comprehensive and relational approach of young's experiences. The present study aims to analyse the perceived parenting styles (either to mother or the father) and to test their involvement on bullying behaviours, as well as to test the mediating role of the psychopathological symptomatology in last association. The study sample consisted of 1976 adolescents and young adults aged between 14 and 25 years old (M = 17.22, SD = 2.50). The results indicate a significant effect of parenting styles regarding to bullying behaviours, as well as the existence of a mediation role of psychopathological symptomatology in the association between parenting styles and bullying behaviours. The results will be discussed in light of Baumrind's theory, assuming the importance of parenting styles to the psychological and behavioural development in adolescents and young adults. Diabetes mellitus (DM) requires changes in behavior, which contribute to increase the risk complications in individual-s psychopathological functioning. This study aims at characterizing a sample of adults diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and identifying the predictor variables of psychopathological symptoms and levels of vulnerability to stress. The sample population was 63 adults diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. The research protocol consisted of a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) and the Vulnerability to Stress Scale - 23 QVS. Belonging to the female gender, not having work activity, and being older were psychopathological symptoms predictors. Having lower educational level, not being married and having no work activity were predictors of greater vulnerability to stress. The identification of predictive factors is helpful to develop programs that help increase individual resistance to stress and psychopathology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Unhealthy core beliefs are theorized to be stable constructs throughout the life-span, but no research to date, outside of the context of clinical intervention, has addressed this claim over a period of greater than 6 weeks. This study explores the stability and continuity of core beliefs and psychopathological symptoms in a group of women over a major life event and for 1 year subsequently. Eighty-seven women completed measures assessing their core beliefs and psychopathological symptoms during pregnancy and at 6 and 12 months after giving birth. General maternal psychopathological symptoms significantly decreased across the group between pregnancy and 6 months postpartum, and between pregnancy and 1 year, but showed evidence of stability in the ranks of individuals across time. The majority of core beliefs remained both stable and continuous throughout this period of major transition. Introduction: Blood pressure (BP) refers to the pressure that the blood exerts on the walls of blood vessels. There is a number of evidences that show that depression, anxiety, and also stress have a high incidence in people suffering from hypertension. Objectives: To correlate blood pressure levels with psychopathological symptomatology levels and to compare differences between genders, age and education levels. Methods: This was a descriptive, inferential and correlational study encompassing 1407 participants, aged from 18 - 89 years of age (average age = 36 years). Measures included biomedical data - systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure, arrhythmias and heartbeat, as well as the demographic variables - sex, age and education of the participants; mental health (psychopathological symptomatology) was measured using the Portuguese version of the BSI. Results: In the present study there were no statistically significant relationships between Systolic Blood Pressure, Diastolic Blood Pressure and General SymptomIndex, as well as for each BSI dimension. Nevertheless, statistically significant differences were found between Diastolic Blood Pressure and obsessions-compulsions, interpersonal sensibility and hostility. Also, there are statistically significant differences for BP according to gender and education. Conclusions: This study brings important contributions to the study of the associations between blood pressure and mental health, with import implications for intervention and prevention. Background: Starting from the first months of 2020, worldwide population has been facing the COVID-19 pandemic. Many nations, including Italy, took extreme actions to reduce the diffusion of the virus, profoundly changing lifestyles. The Italians have been faced with both the fear of contracting the infection and the consequences of enforcing social distancing. This study was aimed to understand the psychological impact of the COVID-19 outbreak and the psychopathological outcomes related to the first phase of this emergency. Methods: The study included 2291 respondents. An online survey collected information on socio-demographic variables, history of direct or indirect contact with COVID-19, and additional information concerning the COVID-19 emergency. Moreover, psychopathological symptoms such as anxiety, mood alterations and post-traumatic symptomatology were assessed. Results: The results revealed that respectively 31.38%, 37.19% and 27.72% of respondents reported levels of general psychopathological symptomatology, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms over the cut-off scores. Furthermore, a significant worsening of mood has emerged. Being a female or under the age of 50 years, having had direct contact with people infected by the COVID-19, and experiencing uncertainty about the risk of contagion represent risk factors for psychological distress. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that the first weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic appear to impact not only on physical health but also on psychological well-being. Although these results need to be considered with caution being based on self-reported data collected at the beginning of this emergency, they should be used as a starting point for further studies aimed to develop interventions to minimize both the brief and long-term psychological consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
