Energy efficiency has become a major concern for manufacturing systems, due to industry being the largest user of scarce, finite energy sources, and also to recent events which have pushed energy prices to alarming levels. In the present Industry 4.0 context, Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems (RMS) are therefore one of the most promising manufacturing paradigm. In this paper, we investigate the suitability of one of the most common types of RMS, the Parallel-Serial manufacturing line with Crossover, to help minimise the peak of the electric power consumption. More specifically, the balancing of such a production line is studied, so as to integrate power peak minimisation from the design stage. Thus, we define the Parallel-Serial-with-Crossover Assembly Line Balancing Problem with Power Peak Minimization, a new combinatorial NP-hard problem. We also propose a suitable time-indexed Integer Linear Program that integrates balancing and scheduling decisions and a matheuristic algorithm designed to tackle large-size instances. Both approaches are tested on a wide set of instances. The computational results show that relevant power peak reductions can be achieved (33% on average), opening up promising perspectives from both algorithmic and managerial viewpoints. The European Union, in pursuit of the goal of reducing emissions by at least 55% by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2050, is deploying different actions, with industry decarbonization as a key strategy. However, increasing electricity demand requires an intensification of energy generation from clean technologies, and the energy system's expansion is hindered by renewable generation's climatic dependencies and the imperative for substantial electrical infrastructure investments. Although the transmission grid is expected to grow, flexibility mechanisms and innovative technologies need to be applied to avoid an overwhelming growth. In this context, this paper presents a thorough assessment, conducted within the FLEXINDUSTRIES project, of the flexibility potential across seven energy-intensive industries (automotive industry, biofuel production, polymer manufacturing, steel manufacturing, paper mills, pharmaceutical industry, and cement production). The methodology followed during the analysis entails reviewing the state-of-the-art existing flexibility mechanisms, industries' energy markets engagement, and technical/operational readiness. The results highlight the feasibility of the proposed actions for enabling energy market flexibility through demand-response programs, quantifying energy opportunities, and pinpointing regulatory and technical barriers. With the rapid development of urbanization in China, urban energy consumption increases rapidly, leading to energy shortages and environmental pollution, of which building operational energy consumption carbon emissions (BECCE) account for a large proportion. It has a vital impact on global warming and urban green and sustainable development. Chengdu city in Sichuan Province is taken as the research area in this paper. First, basic information and power data on four types of single buildings, including large-sized buildings, small- and medium-sized buildings, government agencies, and residential buildings, are collected. Second, the characteristics of the four types of buildings are extracted, and the calculation model of BECCE ("electricity-carbon" model) based on particle swarm optimization algorithm-support vector machine (PSO-SVM) is constructed, and the model is trained and verified using the method of five-fold cross-validation. Then, according to the mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), and R² evaluation indicators, the constructed "electricity-carbon" model is compared and evaluated. Finally, the generalization ability of the "electricity-carbon" model is verified. The research results show that (1) the "electricity-carbon" model constructed in this paper has a high accuracy rate, and the fitting ability of the PSO-SVM model is significantly better than that of the support vector regression (SVR) model; (2) in the testing stage, the fitting situation of large buildings is the best, and MAE, RMSE, and R² are 858.7, 1108.6, and 0.91, respectively; and (3) the spatial distribution map of regional BECCE can be quickly obtained using the "electricity-carbon" model constructed in this paper. Integrated energy microgrids and shared energy storage have significant benefits in improving the energy utilization of the system, which is gradually becoming the current research hotspot. And the uncertainty of new energy output also significantly affects the stable and economic operation of integrated energy microgrid. So how to establish a set of integrated energy microgrids optimization operation model considering photovoltaic (PV) output uncertainty and shared energy storage is an urgent problem to be solved nowadays. Firstly, this paper introduces the framework of an integrated energy system microgrid containing a shared energy storage operator (ESO), and analyzes the scheduling method of the upper tier operator within the system as well as the economic benefits at the lower tier user end. Secondly, to address the randomness of PV output, Monte Carlo method is used to generate the scenarios, and then the scenarios are cut down by using the fast antecedent elimination technique. Then, an optimal operation model is established for micro grid operator (MGO) and user aggregator (UA), respectively, and based on the master-slave game relationship, so that the MGO is the leader and the UA is the follower, a Stackelberg game model is proposed to consider the integrated demand response of electricity and heat between the MGO and UA in the context of the participation of ESO in the auxiliary service of the UA. Finally, the proposed model is brought into a typical residential building community for simulation verification, and the results show that the model proposed in this paper can effectively balance the interests of MGOs and UAs, and realize win-win benefits for UA and ESO. Science and technology, with their miraculous advancements, have fascinated human life to such an extent that imagining a world without these innovations is hardly possible. While technology is on the rise, an increase in immoral activities should also be noted. From a technical perspective, "power theft" is a non-ignorable crime that is highly prevalent and directly affects the economy of a nation. Today's life is unimaginable without electricity, almost all things, equipment, and appliances used daily rely on electric power to run smoothly. Solar energy is an alternative but has limitations, such as environmental changes and high initial costs. From rural to urban areas and from domestic to industrial sectors, the use of electricity has increased, but so has power theft. Detecting and eradicating such crimes with the help of the developing scientific field is the "need of the hour." With these views, the paper was conceived and designed. In recent years, the "power restriction" measures were taken in many localities, industrial electricity consumption was interrupted, mainly in the "two high" (high energy consumption and high pollutant emission) enterprises. Take the "power restriction" event in 2021 as an example, this event affected a wide range of regions and disrupted people's livelihood. It not only refers to the power switch and rationing measures taken by individual regions, but also includes differentiated policies implemented by over 20 provinces to limit power supply and industrial production. This paper investigated in detail and summarized the different requirements of power restriction across the country, through the comparison of annual growth rates of power generation and industrial added value，the comparison results of energy intensity, electricity production, power consumption and the industrial growth rate in each province are analyzed. Industrial enterprises and related industrial chains were most heavily affected by the "power restriction" event，mainly in steel, cement, electrolytic aluminum, industrial silicon, textile printing and dyeing, chemical fiber, chemical and other enterprises with high energy consumption and high pollutants emission. The measures to limit electricity will affect the normal production of enterprises to a certain extent, leading to not only the decrease of production efficiency, but also the increase of energy consumption and pollutant emission per unit product. Energy management measures such as differentiated electricity price have limited effect on the output of "two high" industrial products, and the economic leverage of differentiated electricity price is gradually being diluted by the price rise of end products. This paper addresses the question whether energy consumption variables and the disaggregation of output matter in the context of efficiency analysis of container terminals. While it is obvious that the energy consumption of refrigerated cargo is higher than the energy consumption of non-refrigerated cargo, this work investigates whether those differences show in an overall efficiency analysis of terminals. This would point to a potentially important input for efficiency measures, to be considered in future productivity and efficiency analysis of terminals. Starting with a discussion on theoretical concepts and variable selection for measuring the energy dimension of terminal efficiency, this is the first paper that applies data envelopment analysis (DEA) comparing results with and without energy consumption, as well as differentiating productive outputs (dry and reefer container handling). The results reveal how the output disaggregation leads to substantially different efficiency scores and are a first step to show the relevance of output disaggregation and the inclusion of the energy variables as inputs in container terminal efficiency studies. The ongoing electrification of the transport sector is expected to cause an increase in electricity demand and, therefore, trigger significant network investments to accommodate it. This paper focuses on investment decision-making for electricity distribution grids and specifically on the strategic and incremental investment network planning approaches. In particular, the former involves network planning with the consideration of a long-term multi-stage study horizon, as opposed to a shorter–term view of the future that applies to the latter case. An investment analysis that is carried out underlines the economic savings generated from adopting a strategic investment perspective over an incremental one. These economic savings are achieved from the fact that the associated fixed investment costs are incurred only once in the horizon under strategic planning. On the other hand, incremental planning involves a series of network reinforcement decisions, thereby incurring the fixed cost multiple times. In addition, sensitivity analyses that are carried out capture the effect of key parameters, such as investment cost, discount rate and investment delay, on the generated economic savings. The non-technical losses caused by abnormal power consumption behavior of power users seriously affect the revenue of power companies and the quality of power supply. To assist electric power companies in improving the efficiency of power consumption audit and regulating the power consumption behavior of users, this paper proposes a power consumption anomaly detection method named High-LowDAAE (Autoencoder model for dual adversarial training of high low-level temporal features). High-LowDAAE adds an extra "discriminator" named AE3 to USAD (UnSupervised Anomaly Detection on Multivariate Time Series), which performs the same function as AE2 in USAD. AE3 performs the same function as AE2 in USAD, i.e., it is trained against AE1 to enhance its ability to reconstruct average data. However, AE3 differs from AE2 because the two "discriminators" correspond to the high-level and low-level time series features output from the shared encoder network. By utilizing different levels of temporal features to reconstruct the data and conducting adversarial training, AE1 can reconstruct the time-series data more efficiently, thus improving the accuracy of detecting abnormal electricity usage. In addition, to enhance the model's feature extraction ability for time-series data, the self-encoder is constructed with a long short-term memory (LSTM) network, and the fully connected layer in the USAD model is no longer used. This modification improves the extraction of temporal features and provides richer hidden features for the adversarial training of the dual "discriminators". Finally, the ablation and comparison experiments are conducted using accurate electricity consumption data from users, and the results show that the proposed method has higher accuracy. This paper proposes a novel intelligent scheduling method based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to solve the multi-objective steelmaking-continuous casting (SCC) scheduling problem, under time-of-use (TOU) tariffs for the first time. The intelligent scheduling system architecture is designed, and a mathematical model is established to minimise the total sojourn time and electricity cost. To effectively reduce production costs by avoiding peak periods of electricity consumption, the 'start time' of the system is generated based on the Markov Decision Process (MDP), and heuristic scheduling rules related to power cost are used as the action space, with corresponding reward functions designed according to the characteristics of these two objectives. To satisfy the continuous casting which is a particular SCC constraint, a backward strategy is developed. Additionally, a branching duelling double deep Q-network (BD3QN) is adapted to guide action selection and avoid blind search in the iteration process, and then applied to real-time scheduling. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms comparison algorithms in terms of solution quality and CPU times by a large margin. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Refuse derived fuel (RDF) is an environmentally friendly renewable fuel developed to reduce waste generation. RDF can consist of various kinds of waste such as paper and gardens. One of the critical parameters is the chemical element and calorific value. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential for waste reduction and the relationship of ultimate longevity in RDF to the calorific value. This study's paper and garden waste mixture were P0 (100% paper), P25 (75% paper and 25% garden), P50 (50% paper and 50% garden), P75 (25% paper and 75% garden), and P100 (100% garden). The calorific value of the mixture can reach 3.6-5.2 kWh/kg. Simultaneously the relationship of ultimate elements nitrogen (N), hydrogen (H), oxygen (O), and ash affects the heating value of RDF. Sampling the application in Depok City can reduce waste by 6.67%, with the potential for electrical energy from paper and garden wastes of 358,903.8 kWh and 48,681 kWh, respectively. Purpose: The reason for writing the paper is growing complexity of management of the electric grid. Our collective electric system faces accelerating, multi-dimensional needs that must be addressed to deliver to our communities. Design/methodology/approach: The supply, transmission, distribution, and consumption of electricity are closely coupled, and must be actively coordinated. This requires the coordinated sensing, measurement, and control of devices and systems spread across the grid. This paper assesses the suitability of blockchain for this purpose, as a platform for transactive energy. Findings: Blockchain technology can facilitate secure and transparent record-keeping and transactions and thus may have many potential applications in the energy sector. Practical implications: Blockchain technology is still evolving and faces some challenges, such as scalability, interoperability, regulation, and adoption. However, blockchain has the potential to revolutionize the energy sector by transforming the way energy is produced, distributed, consumed, and traded. Social implications: High electricity demand, aging power grids, and climate disasters are straining our current energy system. As a result, more people are looking to optimize energy usage—and transactive energy may offer an answer. A Blockchain-enabled transacted energy framework can help everyone from consumers to corporations benefit from improved energy efficiency and profit in the process. Purpose: On the one hand, this paper is to further understand the residents' differentiated power consumption behaviors and tap the residential family characteristics labels from the perspective of electricity stability. On the other hand, this paper is to address the problem of lack of causal relationship in the existing research on the association analysis of residential electricity consumption behavior and basic information data. Design/methodology/approach: First, the density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise method is used to extract the typical daily load curve of residents. Second, the degree of electricity consumption stability is described from three perspectives: daily minimum load rate, daily load rate and daily load fluctuation rate, and is evaluated comprehensively using the entropy weight method. Finally, residential customer labels are constructed from sociological characteristics, residential characteristics and energy use attitudes, and the enhanced FP-growth algorithm is employed to investigate any potential links between each factor and the stability of electricity consumption. Findings: Compared with the original FP-growth algorithm, the improved algorithm can realize the excavation of rules containing specific attribute labels, which improves the excavation efficiency. In terms of factors influencing electricity stability, characteristics such as a large number of family members, being well employed, having children in the household and newer dwelling labels may all lead to poorer electricity stability, but residents' attitudes toward energy use and dwelling type are not significantly associated with electricity stability. Originality/value: This paper aims to uncover household socioeconomic traits that influence the stability of home electricity use and to shed light on the intricate connections between them. Firstly, in this article, from the perspective of electricity stability, the characteristics of the power consumption of residents' users are refined. And the authors use the entropy weight method to comprehensively evaluate the stability of electricity usage. Secondly, the labels of residential users' household characteristics are screened and organized. Finally, the improved FP-growth algorithm is used to mine the residential household characteristic labels that are strongly associated with electricity consumption stability. Additionally, it discusses the potential for further development and integration of ChatGPT in retail, such as generating product descriptions and virtual try-on experiences. Finally, the paper encourages retailers to embrace ChatGPT to meet their customer needs. Design/methodology/approach: Case-based methodology involves using specific cases or examples to explore a broader issue or phenomenon. Researchers have analysed real-world cases to identify patterns, themes and insights that can be applied to other contexts or situations. This was useful for understanding complex and multifaceted issues as it allowed us to delve deeper into specific examples and explore the nuances of the situation. Findings: While ChatGPT is a powerful tool for retailers, limitations such as difficulty in understanding non-standard accents and unconventional language can arise, causing customer frustration. Retail managers must integrate ChatGPT in a way that enhances customer experience. In the future, ChatGPT has the potential to generate product descriptions, provide virtual try-on experiences and integrate with augmented or virtual reality technology to offer more immersive experiences. Careful consideration and integration can help retailers overcome these limitations and offer personalized recommendations, round-the-clock assistance and an engaging customer experience that improves sales. A reasonable allocation of production schedules and savings in overall electricity costs are crucial for large manufacturing conglomerates. In this study, we develop an optimization model of off-site industrial production scheduling to address the problems of high electricity costs due to the irrational allocation of production schedules on the demand side of China's power supply, and the difficulty in promoting industrial and commercial distributed photovoltaic (PV) projects in China. The model makes full use of the conditions of different PV resources and variations in electricity prices in different places to optimize the scheduling of industrial production in various locations. The model is embedded with two sub-models, i.e., an electricity price prediction model and a distributed photovoltaic power cost model to complete the model parameters, in which the electricity price prediction model utilizes a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network. Then, the particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the optimization model. Finally, the production data of two off-site pharmaceutical factories belonging to the same large group of enterprises are substituted into the model for example analysis, and it is concluded that the optimization model can significantly reduce the electricity consumption costs of the enterprises by about 7.9%. In light of the escalating concerns surrounding climate change and air quality degradation, the imperative for energy conservation and emission reduction has garnered widespread attention. Given that factories represent a significant portion of electricity consumption within the power network, a comprehensive analysis of the electricity consumption behavior of energy- intensive enterprises becomes paramount. To meticulously dissect the electricity consumption patterns of energy-intensive enterprises, this paper categorizes them into four distinct production modes: 24-hour all-day production factories, pure daytime production factories, pure nighttime production factories, and environmentally friendly peaking production factories. Employing the dynamic electricity-carbon factor as a guiding force, the analysis encompasses electricity consumption, tariff expenditure, peaking costs, carbon emissions, and comfort levels associated with each production method throughout the year. A delicate equilibrium is sought among multiple objectives, aiming to optimize the user experience while simultaneously mitigating costs and carbon emissions. Furthermore, this paper conducts a comparative analysis of each objective, employing single-objective genetic algorithms and the interior point method. The digitization of distribution power systems has revolutionized the way data are collected and analyzed. In this paper, the critical task of harnessing this information to identify irregularities and anomalies in electricity consumption is tackled. The focus is on detecting non-technical losses (NTLs) and energy theft within distribution networks. A comprehensive overview of the methodologies employed to uncover NTLs and energy theft is presented, leveraging measurements of electricity consumption. The most common scenarios and prevalent cases of anomalies and theft among consumers are identified. Additionally, statistical indicators tailored to specific anomalies are proposed. In this research paper, the practical implementation of numerous artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, including the artificial neural network (ANN), ANFIS, autoencoder neural network, and K-mean clustering, is highlighted. These algorithms play a central role in our research, and our primary objective is to showcase their effectiveness in identifying NTLs. Real-world data sourced directly from distribution networks are utilized. Additionally, we carefully assess how well statistical methods work and compare them to AI techniques by testing them with real data. The artificial neural network (ANN) accurately identifies various consumer types, exhibiting a frequency error of 7.62%. In contrast, the K-means algorithm shows a slightly higher frequency error of 9.26%, while the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) fails to detect the initial anomaly type, resulting in a frequency error of 11.11%. Our research suggests that AI can make finding irregularities in electricity consumption even more effective. Background and aims: As a part of the framework of the EU-funded Energy efficiency through Behavior CHANge Transition (ENCHANT) project, the present paper intends to provide a "Research Protocol" of a web-based trial to: (i) assess the effectiveness of behavioral intervention strategies––either single or in combination––on electricity saving, and (ii) unravel the psychological factors contributing to intervention effectiveness in households across Europe. Methods and materials: Six distinct interventions (i.e., information provision, collective vs. individual message framing, social norms, consumption feedback, competitive elements, and commitment strategies) targeting electricity saving in households from six European countries (i.e., Austria, Germany, Italy, Norway, Romania, and Türkiye) are evaluated, with an initial expected samples of about 1500 households per country randomly assigned to 12 intervention groups and two control groups, and data is collected through an ad-hoc online platform. The primary outcome is the weekly electricity consumption normalized to the last seven days before measurement per person per household. Secondary outcomes are the peak consumption during the last day before measurement and the self-reported implementation of electricity saving behaviors (e.g., deicing the refrigerator). The underlying psychological factors expected to mediate and/or moderate the intervention effects on these outcomes are intentions to save electricity, perceived difficulty of saving energy, attitudes to electricity saving, electricity saving habit strength, social norms to save electricity, personal norms, collective efficacy, emotional reaction to electricity consumption, and national identity. The intervention effectiveness will be evaluated by comparing psychological factors and consumption variables before and after the intervention, leading to a 14 (groups including 2 control groups) × 6 (time) mixed factorial design, with one factor between (group) and one factor within subjects (time)–6 measurements of the psychological factors and 6 readings of the electricity meters, which gives then 5 weeks of electricity consumption. Results: Data collection for the present RCT started in January 2023, and by October 2023 data collection will conclude. Discussion: Upon establishing feasibility and effectiveness, the outcomes of this study will assist policymakers, municipalities, NGOs, and other communal entities in identifying impactful interventions tailored to their unique circumstances and available resources. Researchers will benefit from a flexible, structured tool that allows the design, implementation and monitoring of complex interventions protocols. Crucially, the intervention participants will benefit from electricity saving strategies, fostering immediate effectiveness of the interventions in real-life contexts. Although there are opportunities to reduce electrical energy demand in unit processes of mechanical pulp-based paper and paperboard production, this may not be financially beneficial. This is generally because energy optimization opportunities connected to reduced refiner electricity demand in mechanical pulping systems also results in less steam available for the drying of the paper. As modern high consistency refiner systems produce approximately one ton of steam for each MWh of electricity when producing one ton of pulp, a reduction in electric energy demand leads to increased fuel demand in steam boilers to compensate for the steam shortage. In this study, we investigated what the financial and environmental situation would look like if we were to expand the system border from a paper mill to a larger system consisting of a mechanical pulp-based paper or paperboard mill, a district heating system with an incineration boiler and a chemical pulp mill. Mechanical pulp production has a wood to product yield of >90%, a high electric energy demand to separate woodchips to pulp and is a net producer of heat and steam while chemical pulp-based production has a wood to product yield of 50%, a low electric energy demand and is a net heat and electricity producer due to the combustion of dissolved wood polymers. The aim of this research is to create useful and robust models of how to use excess heat from certain industry sites to cover the steam shortage in other industry sites by means of utilizing and optimizing the district heating systems connecting these sites. For this purpose, we used a simulation tool which dynamically allows us to evaluate different scenarios. In this paper, a systematic literature review is presented, through a survey of the main digital databases, regarding modelling methods for Short-Term Load Forecasting (STLF) for hourly electricity demand for residential electricity and to realize the performance evolution and impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in STLF. With these specific objectives, a conceptual framework on the subject was developed, along with a systematic review of the literature based on scientific publications with high impact and a bibliometric study directed towards the scientific production of AI and STLF. The review of research articles over a 10-year period, which took place between 2012 and 2022, used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. This research resulted in more than 300 articles, available in four databases: Web of Science, IEEE Xplore, Scopus, and Science Direct. The research was organized around three central themes, which were defined through the following keywords: STLF, Electricity, and Residential, along with their corresponding synonyms. In total, 334 research articles were analyzed, and the year of publication, journal, author, geography by continent and country, and the area of application were identified. Of the 335 documents found in the initial research and after applying the inclusion/exclusion criteria, which allowed delimiting the subject addressed in the topics of interest for analysis, 38 (thirty-eight) documents were in English (26 journal articles and 12 conference papers). The results point to a diversity of modelling techniques and associated algorithms. The corresponding performance was measured with different metrics and, therefore, cannot be compared directly. Hence, it is desirable to have a unified dataset, together with a set of benchmarks with well-defined metrics for a clear comparison of all the modelling techniques and the corresponding algorithms. Summary: In the pulp and paper industry, black liquor, which is a biomass resource, is burned to produce electricity. Black liquor is concentrated to 21 wt% water through an evaporator before being burned in a boiler. For the evaporator, a multiple‐effect evaporator (MEE) is mainly used, but it requires a large amount of energy and cost. Therefore, it is crucial to reduce energy and cost of evaporation process. Hence, this study suggested a novel process model that integrated mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) with MEE to increase the energy efficiency. The suggested MVR‐assisted evaporation process was composed of preheating and evaporation processes to effectively concentrate black liquor. In addition, it reduced the steam consumption of MEE by using MVR, which uses relatively inexpensive electric energy in the pre‐evaporation process. In the simulation results, the steam, electricity consumption, and the latent heat recovered from the secondary vapor of the suggested process were quantitatively analyzed to verify the energy efficiency. The results indicate that the proposed process increases substantial energy efficiency compared to the conventional process. Then, the appropriateness of the suggested process was evaluated by the techno‐economic analysis. The total annualized cost (TAC) is determined for both current and potential future economic benefits. TAC of the MVR‐assisted MEE configuration can be reduced by up to 77.54%. As the share of air conditioning electricity consumption within total grid electricity consumption grows, the decomposition of such consumption becomes increasingly crucial for assessing electricity usage patterns, devising consumption scheduling strategies, and maintaining the stability of the power grid. Although there is a strong correlation between apparent temperature and air conditioning electricity consumption, the literature currently available seldom explores the impact of apparent temperature on this consumption. Moreover, there is a scarcity of effective assessment indices to evaluate the efficacy of air conditioning electricity consumption breakdown. This study introduces a method for decomposing electricity consumption from air conditioning units, utilizing effective duration as a basis to tackle these issues. By employing an apparent temperature model as a constraint, this approach identifies the effective operating time of air conditioning and constructs a constrained convex optimization problem to estimate air conditioning power usage. Additionally, a novel evaluation index for the effectiveness of air conditioning electricity consumption decomposition is proposed, which includes penalties for negative decomposed consumption, alongside the traditional consistency index. Comparative experiments are conducted using real electricity consumption data from Fujian Province. Empirical results indicate that the methodology for air conditioning electricity consumption decomposition presented in this paper aligns more closely with actual conditions. Furthermore, the evaluation metrics introduced for the decomposition of air conditioning electricity consumption are adept at precisely gauging the quality of the air conditioning electricity consumption data. To accommodate the rapid development of the distribution network of China, it is essential to research load forecasting methods with higher accuracy and stronger generalization capabilities in order to optimize distribution system control strategies, ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the power system, and provide a stable power supply to users. In this paper, a short-term load forecasting method is proposed for low-voltage distribution substations based on the bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) model. First, principal component analysis (PCA) and the fuzzy C-means method based on a genetic algorithm (GA-FCM) are used to extract the main influencing factors and classify different types of user electricity consumption behaviors. Then, the BiLSTM forecasting model utilizing the stochastic weight averaging (SWA) algorithm to enhance generalization capability is constructed. Finally, the load data from a low-voltage distribution substation in China over recent years are selected as a case study. Compared with conventional LSTM and BiLSTM prediction models, the annual electricity load curves for various user types forecasted by the PCA-BiLSTM model are more closely aligned with actual data curves. The digital economy has played a vital role in changing economic and social development patterns and has had a multifaceted impact on carbon neutrality. This paper strives to contribute to the existing research by analyzing the relationship between the digital economy and electricity consumption intensity and providing a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms that influence the digital economy and energy consumption, particularly focusing on electricity consumption intensity through the construction of a theoretical model. To fulfill this objective, this study introduces the development level of the digital economy into the production function of representative power enterprise, constructs a partial theoretical equilibrium analysis framework, calculates provincial digital economy development indices for Chinese provinces from 2013–2021 using the CRITIC method, and examines the impact of the digital economy on power consumption intensity. The results show that the digital economy can reduce the intensity of power consumption. A unit standard deviation increase in the digital economy development level reduces power consumption intensity by 0.1008 standard deviations. The study also conducts a mechanism analysis with economic growth as the mediating variable, which shows that the digital economy promotes economic growth and reduces electricity consumption intensity. The moderating effect of the digital economy on power consumption is further examined using local government fiscal pressure as the moderating variable. The results show that the impact of the digital economy on reducing power consumption intensity decreases with the increase of government fiscal pressure. This study not only contributes to practical applications but also enhances our comprehension of the interplay between the digital economy and power consumption. On the one hand, the development of the digital economy can reduce power consumption, thus reducing carbon emissions and achieving low-carbon growth. This paper presents a methodology to forecast electrical demand for the Chilean Electrical Power System considering a national, regional, district and bus spatial disaggregation. The methodology developed was based on different kinds of econometric models and end-use models to represent the massification of low carbon emission technologies such as electromobility, electric heating, electric water heating, and distributed generation. In addition, the methodology developed allows for the projection of the electric demand considering different kinds of clients as regulated and non-regulated clients, and different economic sectors. The model was applied to forecast the long-term electricity demand in Chile for the period 2022–2042 for 207 districts and 474 buses. With the development of the economy and society, the importance of a secure and stable electricity supply continues to increase. However, the power grid is facing the test of excess installed capacity, the waste of renewable energy, and a low comprehensive utilization rate. This problem stems from the inconsistent peak–valley differences between power production and consumption, and the lack of clear electricity price signals, which disrupts the safe and stable operation of the power market. This paper combines the interactive transactions among clean energy power generation companies, users, and energy storage, explores how the system optimization model can be reflected in the power market through regulatory measures, and formulates the optimal output scheme of the system under the constraints of clean energy power generation forecast data, user base load forecast data, demand-side resource regulation ability, and energy storage system regulation ability to achieve the goals of comprehensive clean energy power consumption and minimum cost for users. A comprehensive analysis of the proposed model was conducted using actual data from a certain province in China, the results show that the consumption of clean energy will increase by 3% to full consumption and the total cost of users will be 32% lower than that of time-of-use (TOU) power prices, which proves the potential of the proposed joint optimization model in absorbing clean energy and the effectiveness of the market mechanism. Forecasting energy demand is critical to ensure the steady operation of the power system. However, present approaches to estimating power load are still unsatisfactory in terms of accuracy, precision, and efficiency. In this paper, we propose a novel method, named ELFNet, for estimating short-term electricity consumption, based on the deep convolutional neural network model with a double-attention mechanism. The Gramian Angular Field method is utilized to convert electrical load time series into 2D image data for input into the proposed model. The prediction accuracy is greatly improved through the use of a convolutional neural network to extract the intrinsic characteristics from the input data, along with channel attention and spatial attention modules, to enhance the crucial features and suppress the irrelevant ones. The present ELFNet method is compared to several classic deep learning networks across different prediction horizons using publicly available data on real power demands from the Belgian grid firm Elia. This paper presents the analytical and numerical application of a method to determine the parameters and power losses in the core of two medium-power synchronous generators. These generators are used as emergency power sources powered by diesel engines, gas engines, and gas turbines. They cover peak electricity demand but can also be used in traction drives. This article presents a new numerical method for determining losses in the generator core based on the use of a time-stepping solution using the FEM method and calculating these losses using analytical formulas. In calculating the losses for the FEM method, approximations of the loss characteristics of the sheet were used with a wide range of induction values and frequencies. This method is specific to the solution used and was adapted from the authors' previous work on losses in induction machines. A one-phase winding with alternating voltage was supplied to determine the basic parameters in the form of synchronous reactance. Also, an important novelty is the introduction of a new method of determining the saturation state of the magnetic circuit, which significantly affects the machine parameters. The obtained results were used in analytical calculations and implemented in a computer program that allows for the calculation of electromagnetic parameters, operating characteristics, and core losses, taking into account additional losses, total losses, and efficiency, as well as machine parameters in unsteady operating states and the current characteristics of a three-phase symmetrical short circuit at the machine terminals. In Europe, there is increasing recognition of the ethical challenges associated with designing and developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) systems, especially concerning their potential impact on fundamental rights. As a result, ethics frameworks and guidelines have been issued by stakeholders in both the private and public sectors. At the same time, fostering innovation in the field is also crucial. The implementation of the European Union (EU) sustainability goals is one area where AI/ML is expected to make a significant contribution, but there are important considerations to address. The expanding reliance on data storage and the subsequent increase in electricity consumption due to advancements in AI/ML have significant implications for greenhouse gas emissions. This paper examines the regulatory landscape for environmental sustainability using an institutional analysis contrasting the ethical frameworks and current normative standards applicable within the EU. In the context of power system decarbonization, the demand-side strategy for increasing the share of renewable energy is studied for two constrained energy systems. This strategy, which is currently widely suggested in policies on the energy transition, would impact consumer behavior. Despite the importance of studying the latter, the focus here is on decisions regarding the type, location, and timeframe of implementing the related measures. As such, solutions must be assessed in terms of cost and feasibility, technological learning, and by considering geographical and environmental constraints. Based on techno-economic optimization, in this paper we analyze the evolution of the power system and elaborate plausible long-term trajectories in the energy systems of two European islands. The case studies, Procida in Italy and Hinnøya in Norway, are both electrically connected to the mainland by submarine cables and present issues in their power systems, which are here understood as relatively isolated power systems. Renewable energy integration is encouraged by legislative measures in Italy. Although not modeled here, they serve as a backbone for the assumptions of increasing these investments. For Procida, rooftop photovoltaics (PV) coupled with energy storage are integrated in the residential, public, and tertiary sectors. A price-based strategy is also applied reflecting the Italian electricity tariff structure. At a certain price difference between peak and off-peak, the electricity supply mix changes, favoring storage technologies and hence decreasing imports by up to 10% during peak times in the year 2050. In Norway, renewable energy resources are abundant. The analysis for Hinnøya showcases possible cross-sectoral flexibilities through electrification, leading to decarbonization. By fine-tuning electric vehicle charging tactics and leveraging Norway's electricity pricing model, excess electricity demand peaks can be averted. With the continuous growth of electricity demand, the safe and stable operation of distribution lines is crucial for power transportation. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) inspection has been widely used for the maintenance and repair of distribution lines. Due to the limitations of computational power and endurance, it is difficult for UAVs to independently complete data processing. Combined with mobile edge computing (MEC), this paper proposes a computing offloading strategy based on multi‐agent reinforcement learning and double‐layer offloading mechanism, which can further utilize the computing power of non‐task devices and edge servers. Firstly, three‐layer system architecture, named MEC‐U‐NTDC (MEC‐UAV‐Non‐task Device Cloud), is built. Secondly, double‐layer offloading mechanism is designed to comprehensively utilize the computing power of edge servers and neighbouring non‐task devices. Finally, a multi‐agent algorithm DLMQMIX is proposed to minimize the total cost for UAV inspection. Simulation experiments show that the proposed algorithm can effectively solve the task offloading problem of UAV‐aided distribution line inspection, and compared with algorithms such as PSO, GA, and QMIX, it performs better in terms of average delay, system cost, and load balancing, achieving a smaller total system cost. Purpose: Most life cycle inventory (LCI) datasets include location-based electricity mixes. Using these LCI datasets in combination with market-based electricity accounting in life cycle assessments (LCAs) leads to double counting of electricity from specific sources, such as renewable energy. The goal of this paper is to analyze market-based accounting by replacing location-based electricity consumption with market-based residual mixes in all processes of the ecoinvent database. The python script for this replacement procedure is openly available. Materials and methods: We use the Brightway 2 software package to replace European location-based electricity consumption in all 21,238 processes of the ecoinvent database with residual electricity mixes on the corresponding voltage level. The ecoinvent database provides residual electricity mixes for all countries involved in European trade with market-based energy attribute certificates—Guarantees of Origin. We analyze the induced changes to the database both on an individual process level and on a database-wide level. The analysis focusses on the impact category climate change but is further extended to the impact categories terrestrial acidification, freshwater eutrophication, marine eutrophication, ozone depletion, and particulate matter formation. Results and discussion: For European processes, the implementation of the residual electricity mixes leads to average changes in the life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) results for climate change of 1%, 10%, 20%, and 50% for 2958, 733, 387, and 107 processes, respectively. Changes are especially pronounced for Norwegian and Icelandic processes due to the large differences among their location-based and residual electricity mixes. For the other analyzed impact categories, the changes in LCIA results are particularly high for freshwater eutrophication. With the push towards more primary data in LCA and GHG accounting, the impacts of using residual electricity mixes instead of location-based electricity mixes need further research on basis of quantified figures, which we present in this paper. Conclusion: This paper presents an approach towards enabling more consistent market-based accounting throughout LCAs and thereby contributes to the avoidance of double counting. Since only European residual mixes are considered, the database of this paper leads to distortion of LCA results. Further, research is needed to address double counting beyond the European electricity sector. This includes an expansion of this research to a global level and other industrial sectors. This paper presents a novel approach for electricity consumption profiling in households through the fusion of usage data for individual smart devices. The novelty of the approach consists of leveraging the data representing the usage of individual appliances rather than using direct measurements of energy consumption. Our methodology focuses on merging signals representing the interaction of the user with the device to compute patterns in the total energy consumption per household. Subsequently, we apply data mining techniques—specifically, unsupervised clustering—to analyze the resulting time-series data representing daily energy consumption. Through this approach, we aim to identify and characterize patterns in energy usage within households, enabling insights for energy optimization strategies and resource allocation. This information can be further used in practical tasks, such as flattening energy consumption. The proposed approach offers an alternative to the direct measurement of energy usage, considering the potential for sensor failure or malfunction. Australia, like many other countries around the world, is undergoing a transition toward net zero emissions. It requires changes and development in many sectors, which not only bring benefits but also challenges. The rapid growth in renewable energy sources (RESs) is necessary to decarbonise electricity generation but negatively affects grid stability. Residential buildings also contribute to this issue through specific load profiles and the high penetration of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) installations. Maintaining grid balance will be crucial for further emissions reductions. One of the potential solutions can be the replacement of conventional heating and cooling systems in houses with solutions capable of storing energy and shifting the electrical load. As presented in this paper, heat pumps and hydronic systems can significantly improve the electrical load of a typical South Australian household when they are controlled by algorithms reacting to the current grid conditions and household-generated electricity compared to conventional solutions. TRNSYS 18 simulations of air source and ground source heat pump systems with smart control based on measured electricity consumption and domestic hot water usage data showed the possibility of total energy consumption reduction, shifting the load from peak periods towards periods of excessive RES generation and increasing self-consumption of rooftop PV electricity. This paper examines how Australian residential load profiles may evolve in the short to medium term future. These profiles can be used to support simulation studies of the future Australian network within an environment that is transitioning to renewable energy and broader use of electricity as a tool for decarbonisation. The daily profiles rely heavily on the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) forecasts for future annual energy usage. The period from 2024 to 2050 will be transformational. In the residential networks, two secular trends are particularly important in expanding residential generation and electrification. New daily load profiles have been constructed using historical Australian profiles and adding additional components for solar generation, battery operation and electrification activities. The entire aggregated residential network is expected to have reverse midday power flow on any average day from 2024 onwards due to the rapid increase in electric vehicle (EV) usage. The domestic energy demand forecasting methodology presented in this work related to Australia can easily be adopted to carry out similar forecasting for any country of the world. Sierra Leone is an electricity-poor country with one of the lowest electricity consumption per capita rates across sub-Saharan Africa. Yet, with ambitious targets to transform and stimulate its economy in the coming decades, energy demand forecasting becomes an integral component of successful energy planning. Through applying the MAED-D (version 2.0.0) demand software, this research study aims to generate Sierra Leone's electricity demand forecasts from 2023 to 2050. Three novel scenarios (baseline-, high-, and low-demand) are developed based on socio-economic and technical parameters. The baseline scenario considers the current electricity sector as business-as-usual; the high-demand scenario examines an ambitious development future with increased economic diversification and mechanisation, and the low-demand scenario examines more reserved future development. The modelled scenario results project an increase in electricity demand ranging from 7.32 PJ and 12.23 PJ to 5.53 PJ for the baseline-, high-, and low-demand scenarios, respectively, by 2050. This paper provides a base set of best-available data needed to produce an electricity demand model for Sierra Leone which can be used as a capacity-building tool for in-country energy planning alongside further integration into data modelling pipelines. Enhancing energy efficiency in commercial buildings is crucial for reducing energy consumption. Achieving this goal requires careful monitoring and analysis of the energy usage patterns exhibited by different devices. Nonetheless, gathering data from individual appliances in commercial buildings presents difficulties due to the large number of appliances, complex installations, and costs. This paper presents the Circuits-Level Electrical Measurements Dataset (CLEMD). The measurement was conducted at the main switchboard to a set of distribution boards instead of measuring at the individual loads. The data is gathered from an institutional setting. It consists of 42 records of vital electrical parameters including voltage, current, frequency, real power, reactive power, apparent power, power factor, and odd harmonics for electrical currents. The device deployed in the measurement were industry-grade and had a high sampling rate of 200 kHz. The measurements were done over a 40-day period, from September 16 2023 to October 25 2023. CLEMD is the first Malaysian public dataset on circuit-level electricity consumption and offers analysis opportunities in different research areas such as electricity load disaggregation at circuit level, circuit identification, load profile forecasting, and pattern recognition. Reducing the power consumption of oil production wells is one of the important directions of oil industry development in the context of transition of many fields to the late stages of operation. At the same time, there is often a need to limit hydrocarbon production, which is often accomplished by shutting down wells completely. In this paper, the authors propose an approach to improve the energy efficiency of the electric centrifugal pump unit through the use of periodic operation mode, which allows to reduce the specific power consumption of the electric centrifugal pump unit. Also, this mode can be considered as a way to regulate the well flow rate. According to the results of calculations it was obtained that the reduction of specific power consumption of the unit when operating at nominal frequency can reach 5% relative to the continuous mode of operation. An assessment was made of the effect of reducing the frequency of the supply voltage in a periodic mode on the parameters of the operation of the installation and it was found that the well flow rate increased by 1.43% with a reduction in specific power consumption by 1.64%. Demand response (DR) can provide extra scheduling flexibility for power systems. Different from industrial and residential loads, the production process of manufacturing loads includes multiple production links, and complex material flow and energy flow are closely coupled, which can be seen as a typical nondeterministic polynomial-time (NP) hard problem. In addition, there is a coupling effect between the temperature-controlled loads (TCLs) and the manufacturing loads, which has often been ignored in previous research, resulting in conservative electricity consumption planning. This paper proposes an optimal demand management for the manufacturing industry. Firstly, the power consumption characteristics of manufacturing loads are analyzed in detail. A state task network (STN) is introduced to decouple the relationship between energy and material flow in each production link. Combining STN and production equipment parameters, a general MILP model is constructed to describe the whole production process of the manufacturing industry. Then, a mathematical model of the TCLs considering a comfortable human degree is established. Fully considering the electricity consumption behavior of equipment and TCLs, the model predictive control (MPC) method is adopted to generate the optimal scheduling plan. Federated learning (FL) is a machine-learning framework that effectively addresses privacy concerns. It harnesses fragmented data from devices across the globe for model training and optimization while strictly adhering to user privacy protection and regulatory compliance. This framework holds immense potential for widespread applications in the smart-grid domain. Through FL, power companies can collaborate to train smart-grid models without revealing users' electricity consumption data, thus safeguarding their privacy. However, the data collected by clients often exhibits heterogeneity, which can lead to biases towards certain data features during the model-training process, therefore affecting the fairness and performance of the model. To tackle the fairness challenges that emerge during the federated-learning process in smart grids, this paper introduces FedCSGP, a novel federated-learning approach that incorporates client sampling and gradient projection. The main idea of FedCSGP is to categorize the causes of unfairness in federated learning into two parts: internal conflicts and external conflicts. Among them, the client-sampling strategy is used to resolve external conflicts, while the gradient-projection strategy is employed to address internal conflicts. By tackling both aspects, FederCSGP aims to enhance the fairness of the federated-learning model while ensuring the accuracy of the global model. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly improves the accuracy of poorly performing clients in smart-grid scenarios with lower communication costs, therefore enhancing the fairness of the federated-learning algorithm. The significant growth in demand for electricity has led to increasing congestion on distribution networks. The challenge is twofold: it is needed to expand and modernize our grid to meet this increased demand but also to implement smart grid technologies to improve the efficiency and reliability of electricity distribution. In order to mitigate these congestions, novel approaches by using flexibility sources such as battery energy storage can be used. This involves the use of battery storage systems to absorb excess energy at times of low demand and release it at peak times, effectively balancing the load and reducing the stress on the grid. In this paper, two optimal power flow formulations are discussed: the branch flow model (non-convex) and the relaxed bus injection model (convex). These formulations determine the optimal operation of the flexibility sources, i.e., battery energy storage, with the objective of minimizing power losses while avoiding congestions. Furthermore, a comparison of the performance of these two formulations is performed, analyzing the objective function results and the flexibility operation. With the energy structure transition and the development of the green power market, the role of electricity retailers in multi-market green power trading has become more and more important. Particularly in China, where aggressive green energy policies and rapid market transformations provide a distinct context for such studies, the challenges are pronounced. Under demand-side response, electricity retailers face the uncertainty of users' electricity consumption and incentives, which complicates decision-making processes. The purpose of this paper is to explore the optimization decision-making problem of multi-market green power trading for electricity retailers under demand-side response, with a special focus on the Chinese market due to its leadership in implementing substantial green energy initiatives and its potential to set precedents for global practices. We first construct a two-party benefit optimization model, which comprehensively considers the profit objectives for electricity retailers and utility maximization for users. Then, the model is solved by the Lagrange multiplier method and distributed subgradient algorithm to obtain the optimal solution. Finally, the effectiveness of the incentive optimization strategy under the multi-market to promote green power consumption and improve the profit of electricity retailers is verified by arithmetic simulation. The results of this study show that the incentive optimization strategy under multi-market, particularly within the Chinese context, is expected to provide a reference for electricity retailers to develop more flexible and effective trading strategies in the green power market and to contribute to the process of promoting green power consumption globally. Behind the meter (BTM) distributed energy resources (DERs), such as photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery energy storage systems (BESSs), and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructures, have experienced significant growth in residential locations. Accurate load forecasting is crucial for the efficient operation and management of these resources. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art technologies and models employed in the load forecasting process of BTM DERs in recent years. The review covers a wide range of models, from traditional approaches to machine learning (ML) algorithms, discussing their applicability. A rigorous validation process is essential to ensure the model's precision and reliability. Cross-validation techniques can be utilized to reduce overfitting risks, while using multiple evaluation metrics offers a comprehensive assessment of the model's predictive capabilities. Comparing the model's predictions with real-world data helps identify areas for improvement and further refinement. Additionally, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) has recently announced its plan to collect electricity consumption data from identified U.S.-based crypto mining companies, which can exhibit abnormal energy consumption patterns due to rapid fluctuations. Hence, some real-world case studies have been presented that focus on irregular energy consumption patterns in residential buildings equipped with BTM DERs. These abnormal activities underscore the importance of implementing robust anomaly detection techniques to identify and address such deviations from typical energy usage profiles. Thus, our proposed framework, presented in residential buildings equipped with BTM DERs, considering smart meters (SMs). Finally, a thorough exploration of potential challenges and emerging models based on artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) is suggested as a promising approach. The pursuit of economic growth has implications for carbon emissions and climate change. Achieving low carbon development is important for attaining the targets of the sustainable development goals. Africa is often described as a largely import-dependent continent. The continent also requires significant investment in information and communication technologies (ICT) and renewable energy to achieve low-carbon economic growth. However, empirical evidence on the joint impacts of imports of goods and services, clean energy use, ICT, and economic growth on carbon emissions in Africa is scanty and mixed. This paper investigated the impacts of information and communication technologies, renewable energy consumption, import and economic growth on carbon emissions by using rich data on total per capita carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, economic growth, import of goods and services, renewable energy consumption, fixed telephone subscriptions, mobile cellular subscriptions, and individuals using the internet in Africa (2001 ─ 2020) obtained from the World development indicators (WDI) database. Using the Panel autoregressive distributed lag model (PARDL), we found that mobile cellular subscriptions, and level of economic growth significantly increased per capita CO2 emissions in Africa in the long run while renewable energy consumption and technologies and import of goods and services significantly decreased per capita CO2 emissions in the long run. We conclude that information and communication technologies, level of economic growth, import of goods and services, and renewable energy consumption exert impacts on carbon emissions in Africa. This research investigated the impacts of information and communication technologies, renewable energy consumption, import and economic growth on carbon emissions in Africa. This study utilized the Panel autoregressive distributed lag model and panel data from 31 African countries. The three-phase imbalance in low-voltage distribution networks (LVDNs) seriously threatens the security and stability of the power system. At present, a standard solution is automatic phase commutation, but this method has limitations because it does not address the branch imbalance and premature convergence or instability of the commutation algorithm. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel refined regulation commutation system, combined with a modified optimized commutation algorithm, and designs a model and simulation for feasibility verification. The refined regulatory model incorporates branch control units into the traditional commutation system. This effectively disperses the main controller's functions to each branch and collaborates with intelligent fusion terminals for precise adjustment. The commutation algorithm designed in this paper, combined with the above model, adopts strategies such as symbol encoding, cubic chaotic mapping, and adaptive adjustment based on traditional genetic algorithms. In addition, in order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, this paper establishes a mathematical model with the minimum three-phase imbalance and commutation frequency as objectives and establishes a simulation model. The results of the simulation demonstrate that this method can successfully lower the three-phase imbalance of the low-voltage distribution network. It leads to a decrease of the main circuit's three-phase load imbalance rate from 27% to 6% and reduces each branch line's three-phase imbalance ratio to below 10%. After applying the method proposed in this paper, the main and branches circuit three-phase imbalance are both lower than the limit ratio of the LVDNs, which can improve the quality and safety of electricity consumption. Additionally, the results also prove that the commutation algorithm under this method has faster convergence speed, better application effect, and better stability, which has promotion and application value.
