In recent years, paper‐based functional materials have received extensive attention in the field of energy storage due to their advantages of rich and adjustable porous network structure and good flexibility. As an important energy storage device, paper‐based supercapacitors have important application prospects in many fields and have also received extensive attention from researchers in recent years. At present, researchers have modified and regulated paper‐based materials by different means such as structural design and material composition to enhance their electrochemical storage capacity. The development of paper‐based supercapacitors provides an important direction for the development of green and sustainable energy. Therefore, it is of great significance to summarize the relevant work of paper‐based supercapacitors for their rapid development and application. In this review, the recent research progress of paper‐based supercapacitors based on cellulose was summarized in terms of various cellulose‐based composites, preparation skills, and electrochemical performance. Finally, some opinions on the problems in the development of this field and the future development trend were proposed. The exploration of high-performance hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalysts is conducive to the development of clean hydrogen energy, yet still remains a challenge. Herein, we rapidly synthesize the Mo2C/MoS2 heterostructure on carbon paper (Mo2C/MoS2–CP) via carbothermal shock in only two seconds. The construction of the Mo2C/MoS2 heterostructure regulates the electronic structure of the Mo site and facilitates charge transfer during the HER process. Moreover, the catalyst exhibits enhanced hydrophilicity and aerophobicity, facilitating optimal electrolyte–catalyst interaction and efficient hydrogen bubble detachment for accelerated mass transfer. Consequently, Mo2C/MoS2–CP exhibits superior intrinsic alkaline HER activity, and excellent stability for 100 h. Efficient and sustainable energy storage remains a critical challenge in the advancement of energy technologies. This study presents the fabrication and electrochemical evaluation of a self-supporting electrode material composed of MnO2 nanorods grown directly on a carbon paper and carbon nanotube (CNT) substrate using a hydrothermal method. The resulting CNT/MnO2 electrodes exhibit a unique structural architecture with a high surface area and a three-dimensional hierarchical arrangement, contributing to a substantial electrochemical surface area. Electrochemical testing reveals remarkable performance characteristics, including a specific capacitance of up to 316.5 F/g, which is 11 times greater than that of conventional CP/MnO2 electrodes. Moreover, the CNT/MnO2 electrodes demonstrate outstanding retention capacity, exhibiting a remarkable 165% increase over 10,000 cycles. Symmetric supercapacitor devices utilizing CNT/MnO2 electrodes maintain a large voltage window of 3 V and a specific capacitance as high as 200 F/g. These results underscore the potential of free-standing CNT/MnO2 electrodes to advance the development of high-performance supercapacitors, which can be crucial for efficient and sustainable energy storage solutions in various industrial and manufacturing applications. The design of high‐performance electrode material without compromising energy and power density is critical for the advancement in hybrid electric vehicle technology. In this perspective, we have fabricated a MnO2 loaded activated charcoal‐based electrode on graphite paper as an endeavour to improve the energy storage capabilities. The electrode material is synthesized by employing a sustainable route and the structural, microstructural, and textural properties have been investigated. The electrochemical performance for energy storage is evaluated and the fabricated electrode on graphite paper exhibits remarkably high‐power density (811 W kg−1) maintaining high energy density (106 Wh kg−1) at the same time, along with high gravimetric specific capacitance value of 768 F g−1 at 2 mA cm−2. The obtained results demonstrate the excellent performance of the electrode material, suggesting MnO2 loaded activated charcoal as a prospective electrode material to meet the demand of hybrid electric vehicles as well as to contribute to our transitioning towards low‐to‐zero carbon emission technology. Printed electronic paper identifies its interest in flexible organic electronics and sustainable and clean energy applications because of its straightforward production method, cost‐effectiveness, and positive environmental impact. However, current limitations include restricted material thickness and the use of supporting substrate for printing. Here, 2D and 3D electronic patterned paper are fabricated from direct ink writing (DIW) nanocellulose and PEDOT:PSS‐based materials using syringe deposition and 3D printing. The conductor patterns are integrated in the bulk of the paper, while non‐conductive sections are used as support to form free‐standing paper. The strong interface between the patterns of electronic patterned paper gives mechanical stability for practical handling. The conductive paper‐based electrode has 202 S cm−1 and is capable of handling electric current up to 0.7 A, which can be used for high‐power devices. Printed supercapacitor papers show high specific energy of 4.05 Wh kg−1, specific power of 4615 W kg−1 at 0.06 A g−1, and capacitance retention above 95% after 2000 cycles. The new design structure of electronic patterned papers presents a solution for additive manufacturing of paper‐based composites for supercapacitors, wearable electronics, or sensors for smart packaging. Silicon is a promising anode material for the increased performance of lithium-ion batteries because of its high elemental composition and specific capacity. The application of silicon on a commercial scale is restricted due to the limitation of volume expansion. Silicon is also expensive, making it difficult for large-scale commercialisation. Different methods were used to address these issues, including a sintering process and the sol–gel method, to form silicon carbide (SiC), a hard chemical compound containing silicon and carbon. The silicon carbide anode not only acts as a buffer for volume expansion but also allows for better infiltration of the electrolyte, increasing charge and discharge capacity in the battery. Like silicon, silicon carbides can be costly. The development of renewable energy systems is very important, especially in the development of energy storage systems that are not only efficient but also cost-friendly. The cost of the energy storage devices is lowered, making them easily accessible. Silicon carbides can be synthesised from sugarcane, which is the fibrous waste that remains after juice extraction. This could be beneficial, as we could never run out of such a resource, and it offers low carbon with a high surface area. Silicon carbides can be synthesised by carbothermal reduction of silica from sugarcane bagasse. This review provides a comprehensive understanding of silicon carbides and synthetic processes. The innovative use of waste to synthesise materials would reduce costs and comply with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7 (affordable and clean energy) and 13 (climate action). Using a panel data set from 2007 to 2019, we empirically evaluate the impact of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology innovation on green total factor productivity (GTFP). The findings show that (1) CCUS technology innovation significantly improves GTFP. (2) CCUS technology innovation significantly contributes to GTFP by promoting industrial structure upgrading and carbon emissions efficiency. (3) Environmental regulation plays a positive moderating role in the nexus between CCUS technology innovation and GTFP. Samples of plastic and paper waste were collected and subjected to various procedures including drying, manual sorting, pulverization, and homogenization. The elemental analysis of the samples was conducted following the ASTM D3176-15 standard, revealing that the plastic-paper composite samples had lower carbon and hydrogen content compared to the PL100 plastic benchmark. While thermogravimetric tests were performed on the samples in a thermal analyzer according to the ASTM procedure. Interestingly, the composite samples showed a higher presence of elemental oxygen, except for the sample with 25%wt. of paper. Moreover, sulfur content increased in composite samples with 25% wt., 50% wt., and 75% wt. of paper, while the sample with 100% wt. of paper exhibited a decrease in sulfur content. Combustibility was assessed based on the peak temperature at the maximum weight loss rate, indicating that samples PL100, PL50+PA50, and PL75+PA25 displayed higher combustibility compared to samples PL25+PA95 and PA100. Hence, these samples could be recommended for use as refuse-derived fuel due to their potential for energy recovery. Extreme events have further complicated the already closely related carbon‐energy system, but little research has focused on the extreme spillovers between energy and carbon markets. This paper combines quantile vector autoregression with the extended joint connectedness approach to introduce a new quantile extended joint connectedness approach to study the extreme spillover between the carbon market, fossil energy and clean energy markets, using daily data spanning from October 15, 2010 to February 25, 2022. The results show that markets are more closely linked at extreme risk, and the spillover is time‐varying and cyclical. The impact of extreme events will strengthen the links between markets. Further research shows different clean energy have heterogeneous spillovers on the carbon market, especially when impacted by extreme events. Finally, the hedging and portfolio effectiveness of clean energy to carbon market also show the existence of heterogeneity, and clean energy can diversify the portfolio of carbon market. The decision to implement a biogas production project involves the evaluation of multiple variables, such as the problem to be solved, the biodigester, business model, investment, and final products. An integrative literature review was conducted, in which 58 papers were obtained and relevant criteria for decision-making in biogas production projects from organic waste were identified. Three stages were considered in the analysis of the biogas production cycle: initial, plant, and final, as well as the economic, environmental, and social aspects that influence the decision. In general, the publications are dispersed over 30 different journals. The methodology used in most studies is empirical, quantitative, and descriptive, with data collected mainly from secondary sources. From the studies, 499 original criteria were identified, which were classified into one of four categories: economic, environmental, social, and technical, which cover a total of 39 sub-criteria. Economic and technical criteria were the most frequent in publications, while environmental and social criteria were less common and less prioritized. This suggests that there is a tendency to prioritize economic and technical dimensions over environmental and social dimensions in the analysis of the papers found. Finally, a preliminary decision-making model based on the findings is proposed. Implications: The integrative review of the literature on biogas and decision-making presented in this study holds significant implications for policy and practice in the field of sustainable energy production, organic waste management and decision making for public managers. By analyzing 159 papers and developing a comprehensive classification system, we have identified key sub-criteria for decision-making in various stages of the biogas production cycle. The predominance of technical and economic sub-criteria demonstrates the priorities of the current state of biogas projects and, at the same time, the need to promote balance between the technical, economic, social and environmental spheres in decision-making in order to achieve truly sustainable biogas projects. Policymakers can utilize these findings to promote the adoption of more holistic decision-making approaches that consider diverse factors, fostering the development of environmentally-friendly and socially equitable biogas ventures. Existing literature ignores to consider multiple types of pollutants when analyzing energy efficiency and its convergence. Under this background, using SuperSBM-GML model, the improved entropy method, and convergence model, this paper calculates the green total-factor energy efficiency and its evolution trend of 35 China's industrial sub-sectors considering multiple pollutants, and analyzes its convergence. The results indicate that the average score of industrial green total-factor energy efficiency is low, and there are significant differences among sub-sectors: "Utilization of waste resources" is the highest, while "Manufacture of paper and paper products" is the lowest. The green total-factor energy efficiency shows an overall upward trend from 2006 to 2021, the main driving force comes from technological progress, but numerous sub-sectors have not sufficiently caught up with existing cutting-edge technologies. Specifically, the growth rate of green total-factor energy efficiency in high-energy-consumption sub-sectors is higher than low-to-medium-energy-consumption sub-sectors. There are both σ-convergence and β-convergence in low-to-medium-energy-consumption group, indicating that development of sub-sectors is stable and outstanding. Nevertheless, the high-energy-consumption group only exhibits conditional β-convergence, revealing an imbalance in energy efficiency development. Consequently, formulating the benchmark level of energy efficiency and developing energy efficiency "leader" system are suggested for low-to-medium and high-energy-consumption sub-sectors, respectively. Today's societies need a sustainable supply of energy more than ever, whereas unseen events challenge the electric power supply. The coordinated operation of a power‐gas‐transportation system can decrease the effects of such faults in the distribution level. This paper proposes a model predictive control approach for dynamic load restoration in an integrated energy system. The coordination of electric and gas networks besides the mobile energy storage (MES) units provides a novel resilient alternative to serve active and reactive loads. First, the location and time of drastic events are identified as the initialization phase in this paper using a vulnerability analysis by a master–slave problem to find the weak points of the electric grid. Then, a rolling horizon model predictive control‐based approach is proposed to make corrective decisions to serve loads. Meanwhile, a new linearization approach for the Weymouth equation has been proposed based on the binary expansion method. The proposed linear resiliency‐oriented scheduling problem is tested on IEEE 33‐bus and IEEE 69‐bus integrated with a seven‐node gas distribution grid and a six‐station transportation railway. The analysis revealed that the coordination between electric and gas resources minimizes the not‐supplied load; MES units act as certain emergency tools to serve the critical loads. The integration of photovoltaic, energy storage, direct current, and flexible load (PEDF) technologies in building power systems is an important means to address the energy crisis and promote the development of green buildings. The friendly interaction between the PEDF systems and the power grid can promote the utilization of renewable energy and enhance the stability of the power grid. For this purpose, this work introduces a framework of multiple incentive mechanisms for a PEDF park, a building energy system that implements PEDF technologies. The incentive mechanisms proposed in this paper include both economic and noneconomic aspects, which is the most significant innovation of this paper. By modeling the relationship between a PEDF park and the power grid into a Stackelberg game, we demonstrate the effectiveness of these incentive measures in promoting the friendly interaction between the two entities. In this game model, the power grid determines on the prices of electricity trading and incentive subsidy, aiming to maximize its revenue while reducing the peak load of the PEDF park. On the other hand, the PEDF park make its dispatch plan according to the prices established by the grid, in order to reduce electricity consumption expense, improve electricity utility, and enhance the penetration rate of renewable energy. The present paper reviews the hot topics at the 18th Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water, and Environment Systems (SDEWES) held from 24 to 29 September 2023 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The selected papers, including aspects of biomass energy application, energy saving in building, low-carbon development and climate change adaptation, hybrid application of sustainable energy, energy storage system, and other measures in sustainable development, are published in this Special Issue of Energies. The 12 selected papers in Energies and corresponding literature that relates to the above topics and has been published in the most recent year are reviewed. In particular, diversifying energy applications are trending towards comprehensive integration with more efficient clean energy capacities for global energy procurement, which can also offer increased resilience and sustainability, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, mitigate environmental impacts, and enhance energy security through a mix of renewable sources and innovative technologies. Meanwhile, energy storage has become increasingly important, which can manage the intermittent of renewable energy, stabilize the grid, and improve energy security and resilience against disruptions. In addition to conventional solar energy storage, biomass energy storage, building energy storage, water storage, etc., can also reduce the overall energy costs, deferring investments in additional transmission infrastructure. This paper highlights the necessity for nations to adopt green growth strategies to achieve economic prosperity, social equity, and environmental sustainability. By examining governance indicators in six East Asian economies from 1995 to 2021, it finds that a 1% increase in the rule of law boosts green energy deployment by 0.33%, while a 1% rise in corruption reduces it by 0.25%. Similarly, a 1% increase in transparency leads to a 0.45% rise in green energy. Higher income levels encourage green energy adoption, with a 1% increase in income resulting in a 0.19% boost, whereas a 1% rise in income inequality decreases deployment by 0.32%. The importance and the status of the main subjects in green electronic and computing technologies are presented in this paper. In the last semicentennial, the planet suffered from rapid changes in climate. The planet is suffering from increasingly wild storms, hurricanes, typhoons, hard droughts, increases in seawater height, floods, seawater acidification, decreases in groundwater reserves, and increases in global temperatures. These climate changes may be irreversible if companies, organizations, governments, and individuals do not act daily and rapidly to save the planet. Unfortunately, the continuous growth in the number of computing devices, cellular devices, smartphones, and other smart devices over the last fifty years has resulted in a rapid increase in climate change. It is severely crucial to design energy-efficient "green" technologies and devices. Toxic waste from computing and cellular devices is rapidly filling up landfills and increasing air and water pollution. This electronic waste contains hazardous and toxic materials that pollute the environment and affect our health. Green computing and electronic engineering are employed to address this climate disaster. The development of green materials, green energy, waste, and recycling are the major objectives in innovation and research in green computing and electronics technologies. Energy-harvesting technologies can be used to produce and store green energy. Wearable active sensors and metamaterial antennas with circular split ring resonators (CSSRs) containing energy-harvesting units are presented in this paper. The measured bandwidth of the matched sensor is around 65% for VSWR, which is better than 3:1. The sensor gain is 14.1 dB at 2.62 GHz. A wideband 0.4 GHz to 6.4 GHz slot antenna with an RF energy-harvesting unit is presented in this paper. The Skyworks Schottky diode, SMS-7630, was used as the rectifier diode in the harvesting unit. If we transmit 20 dBm of RF power from a transmitting antenna that is located 0.2 m from the harvesting slot antenna at 2.4 GHz, the output voltage at the output port of the harvesting unit will be around 1 V. The power conversion efficiency of the metamaterial antenna dipole with metallic strips is around 75%. Wearable sensors with energy-harvesting units provide efficient, low-cost healthcare services that contribute to a green environment and minimize energy consumption. This research addresses the issue of the heritage preventive conservation in the perspective of energy sustainability, for contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and towards the EU Green Deal. The study analyses and compares four cases associated with different microclimate thresholds as suggested by the standard EN 16893:2018 (Cases 1–3) and as derived from the outputs of three degradation models for preserving paper, wood, and canvas paintings (Case 4). Weather-based indices (degree and gram days) were calculated to estimate trends in the potential energy demand of collection facilities in three European cities belonging to different Köppen-Geiger climate zones (Cfb, Csa, and Dfb), under recent past (1981–2010) and near/far future climate scenarios (2021–2050 and 2071–2100) from two Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5). The findings suggest that adapting facilities' management strategies to focus on collections preservation can facilitate the achievement of 5 out of 17 SDGs, offering a viable alternative to costly energy retrofits and encouraging the development of shared solutions for similar facilities in the same climate zone. As a key project of China's western development, the West-East Natural Gas Transmission Project (WENGT) has effectively alleviated China's uneven energy distribution and supply-demand issues. It has promoted the optimization of China's energy structure and sustainable development in the new era, helping to achieve the goal of "double carbon". Based on pollution data from Chinese industrial enterprises from 2000 to 2012, this paper analyzes the impact of the West-East Natural Gas Pipeline Project on the air pollution emissions of industrial enterprises using a difference-in-difference model and explores the moderating role of local government environmental regulations. The findings indicate that the project significantly reduced air pollutant emissions from industrial enterprises in cities along the route, with a more pronounced reduction effect in areas with higher environmental regulation intensity. Additionally, the emission reduction effect varied among different types of enterprises and regions, with private enterprises showing the smallest reduction impact and the eastern coastal region exhibiting the most significant effect. Global demand for electricity has risen, driving a shift toward sustainable energy sources like Photovoltaic (PV) systems. Despite their efficiency challenges compared to traditional fuels, significant investments and research are advancing the technology. This paper investigates multilevel inverter topologies, with a focus on Z-source technology for high-power PV applications. The study begins with an overview of the growing demand for alternative energy sources and the role of multilevel inverters in enhancing PV system performance. It discusses prominent multilevel inverter topologies, such as Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) and Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) inverters, as well as control techniques including Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and Predictive Control. Furthermore, it explores the functionality of Z-source inverters both with and without PV systems, highlighting their ability to provide voltage boosting, fault tolerance, and improved power quality. For load purposes, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging has been incorporated. The paper uses MATLAB/Simulink to compare multilevel inverter configurations and finds that the CHB inverter with Z-source is superior for PV applications due to its lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and reduced semiconductor usage. Accurate short-term load forecasting (STLF) plays an essential role in sustainable energy development. Specifically, energy companies can efficiently plan and manage their generation capacity, lessening resource wastage and promoting the overall efficiency of power resource utilization. However, existing models cannot accurately capture the nonlinear features of electricity data, leading to a decline in the forecasting performance. To relieve this issue, this paper designs an innovative load forecasting method, named Prophet–CEEMDAN–ARBiLSTM, which consists of Prophet, Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (CEEMDAN), and the residual Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) network. Specifically, this paper firstly employs the Prophet method to learn cyclic and trend features from input data, aiming to discern the influence of these features on the short-term electricity load. Then, the paper adopts CEEMDAN to decompose the residual series and yield components with distinct modalities. In the end, this paper designs the advanced residual BiLSTM (ARBiLSTM) block as the input of the above extracted features to obtain the forecasting results. By conducting multiple experiments on the New England public dataset, it demonstrates that the Prophet–CEEMDAN–ARBiLSTM method can achieve better performance compared with the existing Prophet-based ones. Globally, there is a growing momentum toward achieving universal access to clean energy, particularly electricity, as it plays a crucial role in improving the overall quality of life. Addressing the challenge of universal electricity access requires the development of various mechanisms that enable individuals to access electricity at affordable rates while having the freedom to choose their service providers. In many countries, governments are actively involved in enhancing electricity access, but this effort can put strain on state finances, leading to increased fiscal deficits. This paper aims to investigate the relationship between power expenditure and state finances in Jammu and Kashmir, India, in light of the push for improved electricity access. Using data from the RBI Bulletins for the period 1990–91 to 2019–20, the paper employs panel data analysis to investigate the relationship between power expenditure and gross fiscal deficit. Results indicate a positive and significant correlation between expenditure on power and state gross fiscal deficit in Jammu and Kashmir, indicating lower fiscal sustainability with higher power expenditure. For the purpose of reducing the pressure on state finances caused by enormous domestic power subsidies, the study recommended targeted subsidies with a focus on small energy projects utilizing renewable energy sources and energy-saving technologies, as well as incentives and regulations to promote energy conservation. Farming is the primary source of livelihood in India. A variety of crops (cereals, fibers, oil seeds, sugarcane, and others) are grown for food and other consumable products. This results in the production of a large amount of agricultural waste, also known as crop residue. The disposal of crop residue is a major problem in India. Farmers often burn it in open fields (in-situ burning) due to a lack of farmer-friendly options. This has led to increased air pollution in the Indo-Gangetic plains, the loss of beneficial soil microbes and nutrients, and other health risks. This review paper discusses the current status of agricultural residual production in India. It examines waste-to-energy production technologies and assesses the potential for second-generation fuel production in the country. The paper also discusses in-situ management practices (such as happy seeder, rotary mulcher, shrub master, and paddy straw chopper/shredder) and ex-situ energy recovery technologies (such as biogas, biochar, bioethanol plants, and vermicomposting) for sustainable energy production. Given that methane (CH4) and nitrogen (N2) have similar properties, achieving high-purity enrichment of CH4 from nitrogen-rich low-grade gas is extremely challenging and is of great significance for sustainable development in energy and the environment. This paper reviews the research progress on carbon-based materials, zeolites, and MOFs as adsorbent materials for CH4/N2 separation. It focuses on the relationship between the composition, pore size, surface chemistry of the adsorbents, CH4/N2 selectivity, and CH4 adsorption capacity. The paper also highlights that controlling pore size and atomic-scale composition and optimizing these features for the best match are key directions for the development of new adsorbents. Additionally, it points out that MOFs, which combine the advantages of carbon-based adsorbents and zeolites, are likely to become the most promising adsorbent materials for efficient CH4/N2 separation. Smart grids generate an immense volume of load data. When analyzed using intelligent technologies, these data can significantly improve power load management, optimize energy distribution, and support green energy conservation and emissions reduction goals. However, in the process of data utilization, a pertinent issue arises regarding potential privacy leakage concerning both regional and individual user power load data. This paper addresses the scenario of outsourcing computational tasks for regional power load forecasting in smart grids, proposing a regional-level load forecasting solution based on secure outsourcing computation. Initially, the scheme designs a secure outsourcing training protocol to carry out model training tasks while ensuring data security. This protocol guarantees that sensitive information, including but not limited to individual power consumption data, remains comprehensively safeguarded throughout the entirety of the training process, effectively mitigating any potential risks of privacy infringements. Subsequently, a secure outsourcing online prediction protocol is devised, enabling efficient execution of prediction tasks while safeguarding data privacy. This protocol ensures that predictions can be made without compromising the privacy of individual or regional power load data. Ultimately, experimental analysis demonstrates that the proposed scheme meets the requirements of privacy, accuracy, and timeliness for outsourcing computational tasks of load forecasting in smart grids. Energy communities are a transformative force in the electricity markets and ancillary services, reshaping the energy landscape through collective action. This paper explores the successful strategies adopted by these communities, highlighting real-world cases where they have participated directly in the market, or through aggregators, or sold their energy to retailers, which is of paramount importance because it serves as a foundation for those countries that wish to implement these entities as part of their decarbonization plan. It also serves as a model for the development of future citizen initiatives that aim to turn citizens into active users of the electricity system. The paper examines collaborative dynamics within the energy sector, highlighting how these communities optimize resource sharing and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable energy system. The study emphasizes the potential of energy communities in driving innovation and fostering a participatory approach to energy management. The results show that some pilot projects are being developed and several electricity cooperatives, one of the most common forms of energy communities, are participating in energy trading with their members and other entities. This paper reviews the current state of microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology for energy generation. It begins by exploring clean energy alternatives, focusing on waste‐to‐energy solutions, and introduces the concept, applications, and advantages of MFCs. The biochemical processes within MFCs are explained, highlighting how microorganisms metabolize substrates through glycolysis, the Krebs cycle, and the electron transport chain to generate electrons. These electrons flow through an external circuit and combine with protons and oxygen at the cathode to produce water or reduced forms of nitrogen and sulfur. This paper also analyzes 10 key parameters affecting MFC performance: coulombic efficiency, pH, temperature, substrates, organic loading rate, electrode potential, open circuit voltage, treatment efficiency, organic removal rate, and hydraulic retention time. Recent advancements in MFC technology are also discussed, including innovations in reactor configuration and scaling, the development of new membrane materials like earthen and ceramic, and improvements in wastewater treatment methods. The advancements also extend to genetic engineering techniques to enhance microbial efficiency and component modifications, such as the use of carbon‐based nanomaterials and metal catalysts for improved performance, innovations in proton transfer membranes, and mediator‐less MFCs utilizing metal‐reducing bacteria. Challenges facing MFC technology, such as cost, scalability, and environmental sensitivity, are mentioned. The paper concludes with future directions, including the use of advanced materials, integration with wastewater treatment infrastructure, and the potential for nutrient recovery and chemical synthesis. Introduction: Accurate prediction of line losses in distribution networks is crucial for optimizing power system planning and network restructuring, as these losses significantly impact grid operation quality. This paper proposes a novel approach that combines advanced feature selection techniques with Stacking ensemble learning to enhance the effectiveness of distribution network loss analysis and assessment. Methods: Utilizing data from 44 substations over an 18-month period, we integrated a Stacking ensemble learning model with multiple feature selection methods, including correlation coefficient, maximum information coefficient, and tree-based techniques. These methods were employed to identify the key predictors of power loss in the distribution network. Results: The proposed model achieved a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 3.78% and a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 1.53, demonstrating a substantial improvement over traditional linear regression-based prediction methods. The analysis revealed that historical line loss and line active power were the most influential predictive variables, while the inclusion of time-related features further refined the model's performance. Discussion: This study highlights the efficacy of combining multiple feature selection methods with Stacking ensemble learning for predicting power loss in 10 kV distribution networks. The enhanced accuracy and reliability of the proposed model offer valuable insights for electrical engineering applications, potentially contributing to more efficient and sustainable energy distribution systems. Future research could explore the applicability of this approach to other distribution network voltage levels and investigate the incorporation of additional environmental and network-specific factors to further improve power loss prediction. The use of thermal energy storage (TES) contributes to the ongoing process of integrating various types of energy resources in order to achieve cleaner, more flexible, and more sustainable energy use. Numerical modelling of hot storage packed bed storage systems has been conducted in this paper in order to investigate the optimum design of the hot storage system. In this paper, the effect of varying design parameters, including the diameter of the packed bed, the storage material, the void fraction, and the aspect ratio of the packed bed, on storage performance was investigated. COMSOL Multiphysics 5.6 software has been used to design, simulate, and validate an axisymmetric model, which was then applied to evaluate the performance of the storage system based on the total energy stored, the heat transfer efficiency, and the capacity factor. In this paper, a novel-packed bed was proposed based on the parametric analysis. In 2020, China put forward the national energy and economic development strategy goal of "carbon peak and carbon neutrality"; in this context, the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide into clean energy and high-value-added chemicals can effectively alleviate the current environmental pressure. This process represents a crucial avenue for the advancement of green energy and the realisation of a sustainable energy development strategy. Among the efficient catalysts designed for CO2 hydrogenation reactions, transition metal cobalt has garnered extensive attention from researchers due to its relatively abundant reserves and low economic cost. This paper first introduces the thermodynamic process of carbon dioxide hydrogenation and discusses methods to improve the efficiency of the catalytic reaction from a thermodynamic perspective. It then briefly describes the reaction mechanism of cobalt-based catalysts in the carbon dioxide hydrogenation reaction. Based on this understanding, this paper reviews recent research on the application of cobalt-based catalysts in the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide to produce methane, hydrocarbon chemicals, and alcohols. Hydrogen energy, as a zero-carbon emission type of energy, is playing a significant role in the development of future electricity power systems. Coordinated operation of hydrogen and electricity will change the direction and shape of energy utilization in the power grid. To address the evolving power system and promote sustainable hydrogen energy development, this paper initially examines hydrogen preparation and storage techniques, summarizes current research and development challenges, and introduces several key technologies for hydrogen energy application in power systems. These include hydrogen electrification technology, hydrogen-based medium- and long-term energy storage, and hydrogen auxiliary services. This paper also analyzes several typical modes of hydrogen–electricity coupling. The fashion industry's current manufacturing approach raises various environmental and social concerns, including but not limited to carbon emissions, resource depletion, waste generation, substantial energy consumption, and labour exploitation. Green and digital fashion can minimise these issues. However, fashion's green and digital shifts need more coverage. This paper aims to observe and explore the key elements of green and digital transitions in the fashion industry. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines, this systematic review study examined articles on green and digital transformations in the fashion supply chain from 2012 to 2022 in relevant indexation services. The researchers used descriptive and content analysis to explain the results from 46 of the 518 publications that were relevant to their study. The study uncovered green transforming factors such as green materials, green energy, cleaner production, and others, as well as digital shifting factors like artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics. This study's findings can assist practitioners and policymakers in integrating digital and green technologies into the fashion industry. The profitable commercialization and swift growth in electrified transportation requires load management controllers. Effective load management controllers can reduce the peak load on the power grid, balance the load demand and improve the stability of the power grid. Several techniques are available to optimize the load, including battery swapping, vehicle-to-grid (V2G), vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-home (V2H) approaches. This paper addresses effects of rising adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and the potential for an increased load on the distribution system, which requires load optimization to ensure sustainable development. This paper offers a comprehensive review of all possible energy management controllers used in EVs for load optimization and power split controllers for splitting power between the battery and super-capacitor in hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) to increase battery life span. These controllers are classified into three categories, fuzzy logic controller, voltage-based controller and soft computing-based controller, with their constraints, advantages and disadvantages and finally sum up with their current challenges and future recommendation. The paper also reveals the wireless charging with their pros and cons. The findings have implications for the design and implementation of controllers for EVs to ensure their sustainable development and reduce fossil fuel usage. This paper presents a comprehensive and comparative study of solar energy forecasting in Morocco, utilizing four machine learning algorithms: Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM), recurrent neural networks (RNNs), and artificial neural networks (ANNs). The study is conducted using a smart metering device designed for a photovoltaic system at an industrial site in Benguerir, Morocco. The smart metering device collects energy usage data from a submeter and transmits it to the cloud via an ESP-32 card, enhancing monitoring, efficiency, and energy utilization. Our methodology includes an analysis of solar resources, considering factors such as location, temperature, and irradiance levels, with PVSYST simulation software version 7.2, employed to evaluate system performance under varying conditions. Additionally, a data logger is developed to monitor solar panel energy production, securely storing data in the cloud while accurately measuring key parameters and transmitting them using reliable communication protocols. An intuitive web interface is also created for data visualization and analysis. The research demonstrates a holistic approach to smart metering devices for photovoltaic systems, contributing to sustainable energy utilization, smart grid development, and environmental conservation in Morocco. The performance analysis indicates that ANNs are the most effective predictive model for solar energy forecasting in similar scenarios, demonstrating the lowest RMSE and MAE values, along with the highest R2 value. This review paper critically examines the role of demand response (DR) in energy management, considering the increasing integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) and the rise in electric vehicle (EV) adoption. As the energy landscape shifts toward sustainability, recognizing the synergies and challenges offered by RESs and EVs becomes critical. The study begins by explaining the notion of demand response, emphasizing its importance in optimizing energy usage and grid stability. It then investigates the specific characteristics and possible benefits of incorporating RESs and EVs into DR schemes. This assessment evaluates the effectiveness of DR techniques in leveraging the variability of renewable energy generation and managing the charging patterns of electric vehicles. Furthermore, it outlines important technological, regulatory, and behavioral impediments to DR's mainstream adoption alongside RESs and EVs. By synthesizing current research findings, this paper provides insights into opportunities for enhancing energy efficiency, lowering greenhouse gas emissions, and advancing sustainable energy systems through the coordinated implementation of demand response, renewable energy sources, and electric vehicles. This investigation is part of a topical situation where wireless equipment is gradually being used for energy transfer, particularly for autonomous systems and the use of decarbonized energies. A characteristic example of decarbonized autonomous use is linked to the substitution of thermal engine vehicles for electric vehicles (EVs) equipped with energy storage batteries. This response was considered in an ecological context of reducing air pollution and defending planetary biodiversity, which are currently vital. These EVs ultimately operate thanks to the wireless charging of their batteries when stationary or running. By changing long-established means of transport that have become a threat to biodiversity, it is necessary to ensure that innovative replacement solutions protect this biodiversity. In addition, the construction of wireless power transfer (WPT) battery chargers for these EVs must offer an optimal ecology of clean energy saving. In such a context, the two concepts of One Health (OH) and Responsible Attitude (RA) will find their place in the design and control of WPT tools in EVs. This contribution aims to illustrate and analyze the roles of the green and non-wasteful OH and RA approaches in the design and control of WPT embedded in EVs for the smart city (SC) environment. In the paper, WPT tools are first introduced. The design and control of EV battery charging tools are then examined. The biological effects on living tissues due to the electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation of WPT are analyzed. The phenomena and equations governing the design of WPT and the effects of EMF radiation are then exposed. The OH and RA approaches in the SC context are afterward analyzed. The protection against the unsafe effects of WPT tools in the SC environment is consequently explored. The analyses followed in the paper are supported by examples from the literature. The explorations proposed in this contribution have made it possible to highlight certain notions, allowing a more in-depth understanding of the use of EVs with WPT rechargeable batteries for SCs. The aim of this paper is to present a decision support system (DSS) to capture the complexity of the transition of a national energy system to net zero in the context of multiple sustainability themes. The paper proposes an integrated assessment framework that combines dynamic systems modeling, sustainability indicators, and multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) with direct stakeholder involvement. To illustrate the use of the DSS, the paper compares bundles of climate change policies that aim to decarbonize the road transport sector in Iceland. Eighteen scenarios and alternative development trajectories are defined for the Icelandic energy system based on a combination of three main driving forces. These are, firstly, economic development (three cases); secondly, changes in energy efficiency (two cases); and finally, three climate policy bundles aimed at increasing the share of electric vehicles. Based on the results from the integrated assessment framework, the performance scores of the climate policy bundles are compared across the following five sustainability themes: social impact; economic development; environmental impact; energy security; and technical aspects. The findings confirm that a different conclusion may be reached when multiple sustainability themes are applied in the selection of preferred policy bundles as compared to conventional techno-economic criteria. Banning the registration of fossil-fueled vehicles, combined with economic instruments, offers the best decarbonizing strategy to reach climate and energy policy goals simultaneously. The growing interest in renewable energy solutions for sustainable development has significantly advanced the design and analysis of floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs). Modeling FOWTs presents challenges due to the considerable coupling between the turbine's aerodynamics and the floating platform's hydrodynamics. This review paper highlights the critical role of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in enhancing the design and performance evaluation of FOWTs. It thoroughly evaluates various CFD approaches, including uncoupled, partially coupled, and fully coupled models, to address the intricate interactions between aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, and structural dynamics within FOWTs. Additionally, this paper reviews a range of software tools for FOWT numerical analysis. The research emphasizes the need to focus on the coupled aero-hydro-elastic models of FOWTs, especially in response to expanding rotor diameters. Further research should focus on developing nonlinear eddy viscosity models, refining grid techniques, and enhancing simulations for realistic sea states and wake interactions in floating wind farms. The global interest in environmental issues and sustainable energy has propelled extensive research in photovoltaic (PV) technologies. Brazil has emerged as one of the top ten solar energy producers and flexible PV suppliers in the world. In this context, organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs) have garnered attention due to their flexibility and ability to integrate into various surfaces, albeit facing challenges regarding lifespan and efficiency compared to silicon cells. This review examines the current state of research on OPVs and thin-film solar technologies, employing the systematic literature review methodology Proknow-C. The review includes an analysis of raw materials such as conductive polymers, fabrication processes including film deposition and encapsulation, and technological advancements that enhance the efficiency and stability of OPVs. Utilizing the Proknow-C methodology, a bibliographic portfolio was constructed to identify the current state of research in this field. Of 268 papers from major scientific databases, only 30 were deemed relevant to the theme, highlighting a significant research gap. This paper is a valuable resource for researchers, providing an updated overview and a foundation for future investigations in organic photovoltaics. The results emphasize the importance of materials such as conductive polymers and donor–acceptor molecules and the role of nanotechnology in advancing OPVs. Innovations in manufacturing techniques, such as inkjet and blade coating-based printing techniques, are shown to increase efficiency by providing precise control over film thickness and uniformity and reducing costs through lower material waste. Overall, this review highlights the necessity of further exploration and collaboration within the scientific community to address the challenges and propel advancements in organic photovoltaic cells. Marine co-location, i.e., multiple fixed ocean activities operating in the same place and at the same time, can maximize the space- and resource-use efficiency in crowded seascapes. While interest grows, commercial use is nascent and the collective benefits or limitations of co-locating aquatic food and clean energy remains scattered throughout the literature. In this study, we synthesize multinational findings of co-location scientific publications (N = 102) to better understand the patterns and knowledge gaps at the co-located ocean food-energy nexus. We track and compare food (aquaculture) and energy (tidal, offshore wind, and wave) co-located ocean activities, noting the focus (e.g., ecological), motivation (e.g., impact/risk), and assessment type (e.g., modeling), as well as nine key metrics of interest (depth, distance from shore, aquaculture yield, etc.), mainly for aquaculture co-location. We found the number of annual co-location publications increased over time and space but are largely concentrated in the North Sea (n = 39). We also found about half of publications include aquaculture, one-third of publications report at least one metric - reporting aquaculture yield was particularly rare (n = 1) - and few studies focused on impact/risk (n = 7). However, conducting a targeted post-hoc evaluation of North Sea gray literature (N = 61), due to this region's importance in the field, showed more coverage of impacts/risk (e.g., liability) and similar attention to aquaculture. Of the scientific papers that did report metrics, the ranges of depth and distance exceeded those reported for standalone sectors, indicating co-location could be facilitating a "push" of ocean activities into farther offshore and/or deeper exposed waters. Ultimately, while aquaculture is commonly cited in the co-location literature, the shortage of metrics, like aquaculture yield, and possible impact/risk evaluations - though gray literature can provide critical insights - emphasizes the need for knowledge sharing and modeling to address and explore the uncertainty, especially for co-located aquaculture production. Accurate and trustworthy forecasting of coal prices can offer theoretical support for the rational planning of coal industry output, which is of great importance in ensuring a stable and sustainable energy supply and in achieving carbon neutrality targets. This paper proposes a novel decomposition integration model, called VCNQM, to perform point and interval forecasting of coal price by a combination of variational modal decomposition (VMD), chameleon swarm algorithm (CSA), N-BEATS, and quantile regression. Initially, the variational modal decomposition is enhanced by the chameleon swarm algorithm for decomposing the coal price sequence. Then, N-BEATS is used to forecast each subsequence of coal prices, integrating all results to obtain a point forecast of coal prices. Next, interval forecasting of coal prices is achieved through quantile regression. Finally, to demonstrate the superiority of the VCNQM model's prediction, we make a cross-comparison about predictive performance between the VCNQM model and other benchmark models. According to the experimental findings, we demonstrate the following: after the decomposition by CSA-VMD, the coal price subseries' fluctuation is significantly weakened; using quantile regression provides a reliable interval prediction, which is superior to point prediction; the predicted interval coverage probability (PICP) is higher than the confidence level of 90%; the share power industry index and coal industry index have the greatest impact on coal prices in China; compared to these benchmark models, the VCNQM model's prediction errors are all reduced. In recent years, global efforts towards a future with sustainable energy have intensified the development of renewable energy sources (RESs) such as offshore wind, solar photovoltaics (PVs), hydro, and geothermal. Concurrently, green hydrogen, produced via water electrolysis using these RESs, has been recognized as a promising solution to decarbonizing traditionally hard-to-abate sectors. Furthermore, hydrogen storage provides a long-duration energy storage approach to managing the intermittency of RESs, which ensures a reliable and stable electricity supply and supports electric grid operations with ancillary services like frequency and voltage regulation. Despite significant progress, the hydrogen economy remains nascent, with ongoing developments and persistent uncertainties in economic, technological, and regulatory aspects. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the green hydrogen value chain, encompassing production, transportation logistics, storage methodologies, and end-use applications, while identifying key research gaps. Particular emphasis is placed on the integration of green hydrogen into both grid-connected and islanded systems, with a focus on operational strategies to enhance grid resilience and efficiency over both the long and short terms. Moreover, this paper draws on global case studies from pioneering green hydrogen projects to inform strategies that can accelerate the adoption and large-scale deployment of green hydrogen technologies across diverse sectors and geographies.
