This paper presents the development of cheap and selective Paper-based Analytical Devices (PADs) for selective Pd(II) determination from very acidic aqueous solutions. The PADs were obtained by impregnating two cm-side squares of filter paper with an azoic ligand, (2-(tetrazolylazo)-1,8 dihydroxy naphthalene-3,6,-disulphonic acid), termed TazoC. The so-obtained orange TazoC-PADs interact quickly with Pd(II) in aqueous solutions by forming a complex purple-blue-colored already at pH lower than 2. The dye complexes no other metal ions at such an acidic media, making TazoC-PADs highly selective to Pd(II) detection. Besides, at higher pH values, other cations, for example, Cu(II) and Ni(II), can interact with TazoC through the formation of stable and pink-magenta-colored complexes; however, it is possible to quantify Pd(II) in the presence of other cations using a multivariate approach. To this end, UV-vis spectra of the TazoC-PADs after equilibration with the metal ions solutions were registered in the 300–800 nm wavelength range. By applying Partial Least Square regression (PLS), the whole UV-vis spectra of the TazoC-PADs were related to the Pd(II) concentrations both when present alone in solution and also in the presence of Cu(II) and Ni(II). Tailored PLS models obtained with matrix-matched standard solutions correctly predicted Pd(II) concentrations in unknown samples and tap water spiked with the metal cation, making the method promising for quick and economical sensing of Pd(II). This paper presents comparable sets of the no-load power loss as a product of windage and churning behaviors of a family of various rotating parts (i.e., disc, spur gear, straight bevel gear, and orthogonal face gear). Experimental measurements were carried out under pure air only and under partial immersion in oil to qualify and quantify the windage and churning effects of no-load power losses of a family of spur, bevel, and face gears along with a representative disc as the baseline. Aiming at exploring the influence of gear teeth on the total no-load power losses, two different theoretical analytical approaches are introduced to account for the churning contributions, by which the total power losses are estimated. Both analytical approaches compare well with the experimental findings. Furthermore, a spatial intersecting cross-axis gear (e.g., straight bevel gear and orthogonal face gear) results in higher no-load power losses than that of a representative disc or a parallel-axes gear. The significance of gear teeth (gear vs. disc) on windage behavior is presented, as well as the gear windage effects on the churning phenomenon in a high-speed splash-lubricated gear. This paper presents an interior permanent magnet eddy current heater (IPMECH) that can be driven by wind turbine, which can realize the direct conversion of wind energy to thermal energy. A power analysis method for the IPMECH is proposed. The key to this method is to consider the influence of the skin effect on the distribution of eddy currents based on Coulomb's law, Maxwell's equation, and the Lorentz force law. Firstly, the equivalent magnetic circuit model is established, and the mathematical analytical expressions of air gap magnetic flux density (MFD), torque and thermal power of the IPMECH are derived. Then, the air gap MFD, torque and thermal power of the IPMECH are calculated, respectively. Finally, the analytical method (AM) is verified by the finite element method (FEM) and experiments. The results show that the proposed AM is sufficient to calculate the air gap MFD and thermal power of the IPMECH. The AM provides a quick and easy way to optimize and design an IPMECH. With the continuous expansion of the scale of power generated by grid-connected renewable energy, the form and operation characteristics of power grids have undergone significant changes, and the power electronic characteristics of power systems are prominent, resulting in the frequent occurrence of wide-band oscillation problems when renewable energy power generation equipment is connected to a power grid. Oscillation has the characteristics of nonlinearity and has an oscillation frequency ranging from a few hertz to several thousand hertz or more, which seriously threatens the stable operation of power grids. This paper summarizes the wide-band oscillation events that occur worldwide under the background of renewable energy access to power grids, classifies the wide-band oscillation events according to the distribution of oscillation frequency bands, and sorts out the characteristics of various oscillations. An analytical method was proposed for obtaining the magnetic field distribution for surface-mounted permanent magnet machines with the structure of unequal magnetic poles. Firstly, the Laplace equation and Poisson equation were solved using the method of the separation of variables, and then the mathematical model of the motor structure with unequal magnetic poles was obtained. Secondly, according to the design parameters of the two types of prototypes motors, the flux density in the air gap region of the two types of prototypes motors was calculated, respectively. Thirdly, by comparing the results calculated using the analytical method with the results obtained using the finite element method, the analytical method proposed in this paper was proven to be effective. Moreover, the armature reaction field and the effect of the stator slotting were considered in the mathematical model as well. The stability of the excavation face during the excavation of a tunnel is necessary to safeguard the lives of workers and to guarantee regular and rapid progress of the works. In this paper, the stability conditions of the tunnelling face were analysed using simplified numerical calculation methods (one-step approach) and analytical methods, in order to evaluate the extrusion of the tunnelling face as a representative quantity of the mechanical behaviour of the rock ahead of it. A comparison between the numerical method and the hemispherical method was illustrated, which was able to demonstrate how the latter can be used with high reliability in this type of study. An extensive parametric analysis of the typical conditions encountered in the excavation of tunnels in weak rock made it possible to determine the extent of the face extrusion and the effect on it of the main considered geometric and geomechanical parameters. Thanks to the comparison of the extrusion values obtained from the calculation with the limit value indicated by the scientific literature, it is possible to arrive at a rapid assessment on the stability of the face. A specific study on the role of the pressure applied to the face on the extent of the extrusion then made it possible to understand how to proceed to define the intensity of the main stabilisation systems (TBM thrust and longitudinal fiberglass bolts) to avoid the risk of collapse of the excavation face. Spoke-type permanent magnet (STPM) machines have high power density and low cost due to flux concentrated effect and high air-gap flux density, but they can cause high cogging torque and torque ripple. To reduce the cogging torque, the analytical model considering a rotor slot is established and compared with the finite element mothed (FEM). Then, the cogging torque production mechanism is revealed and analyzed under different conditions, which provides direction to optimize the cogging torque STPM machines. The harmonic content of cogging torque under different conditions is obtained based on the freezing permeability (FP) method. It is found that the fundamental waves mainly generate the cogging torque under a no-load condition, and it is mainly generated by the second harmonics under an on-load condition. In addition, the optimization method is introduced and researched, including rotor slot width, uneven rotor core, and so on. This study has the main objective of the analysis of water flow through the active parts (cutting head CH) of an abrasive water jet (AWJ) machine, model YCWJ-380-1520, performed on a high-pressure nozzle (HPN) and mixing tube (MT). The flow is analyzed through the ruby orifice with a diameter of 0.25 mm by assimilating it with a circular pipe. Taking into account the fact that the average flow velocity through the ruby orifice is about 622 m/s, the value of 155,500 according to the Reynolds criterion was obtained. Regarding the turbulent flow regime, the flow section is divided into four zones; for each of them, the limits of flow layers and the maximum values of water velocities were determined. In the second part of this work, a 2D analysis of the flow through the CH assembly was carried out. Since the abrasive inlet tube (AT) also appears in the CH componence, two situations were analyzed in this study, namely, the case when the inlet through AT is restricted and the case when the AT is free. For each case, three values of flow diameters were considered, both for HPN and MT. The rail inductance gradient is an important parameter of the electromagnetic launcher. The calculation of its value is important for the design of the launcher structure and for predicting the motion behavior of the armature. The current research on the inductance gradient analysis method of the electromagnetic rail launcher mostly does not take into account the effects of launcher size and current diffusion. This method cannot describe its dynamic characteristics, and it results in a large error compared with the actual launch. Therefore, the paper first establishes an electromagnetic rail launcher armature motion model to obtain the rail velocity skin depth under a U-shaped armature. Second, an analytical method for calculating the inductance gradient based on the dynamic skin depth of the rail is obtained, which takes into account the launcher size and velocity skin effect. Stiffness is the main internal excitation of gear system vibration and is the basis for studying the static and dynamic characteristics of the system. Based on the relationship between thermal stress and strain in plane strain theory and combined with the potential energy method, a novel gear thermal stiffness model is proposed in this paper. The model deduces more general analytical formulas for gear thermal mesh stiffness and time-varying thermal mesh stiffness. The results show that the gear thermal stiffness decreases as a whole compared with the elastic stiffness. The decrease in stiffness is nonuniform along the line of action. The effects of temperatures, temperature distributions and thermal stress on gear thermal stiffness are investigated. In this paper, the design and analysis of a 30 kW, 30,000 r/min high-speed permanent magnet motor (HSPMM) for compressor application are provided. In order to provide a reasonable electromagnetic design scheme, the electromagnetic performances of the HSPMM under different structures are analyzed and compared by the finite element method (FEM). The thermal performances and cooling system of the HSPMM are, respectively, analyzed and designed by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The study consists of the distinct types of the exact soliton solutions to an important model called the beta-time fractional (1 + 1)-dimensional non-linear Van der Waals equation. This model is used to explain the motion of molecules and materials. The Van der Waals equation explains the phase separation phenomenon. Noncovalent Van der Waals or dispersion forces usually have an effect on the structure, dynamics, stability, and function of molecules and materials in different branches of science, including biology, chemistry, materials science, and physics. Solutions are obtained, including dark, dark-singular, periodic wave, singular wave, and many more exact wave solutions by using the modified extended tanh function method. Using the fractional derivatives makes different solutions different from the existing solutions. The gained results will be of high importance in the interaction of quantum-mechanical fluctuations, granular matters, and other applications of the Van der Waals equation. The solutions may be useful in distinct fields of science and civil engineering, as well as some basic physical ones like those studied in geophysics. The results are verified and represented by two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and contour graphs by using Mathematica software. The obtained results are newer than the existing results. Stability analysis is also performed to check the stability of the concerned model. Furthermore, modulation instability is studied to study the stationary solutions of the concerned model. The results will be helpful in future studies of the concerned system. This paper proposes a novel torque ripple model of V-Shape interior permanent magnet (IPM) synchronous machine based on the general field modulation theory (GAFMT). Firstly, the magnetic field modulation behavior of a 12-stator-slot/8-rotor-pole (12/8) IPM machine is discussed, where the expressions of permanent-magnet-excited (PM-excited) and armature fields are derived. Secondly, the total torque ripple is divided into three components, namely, the PM-excited cogging torque, the armature cogging torque, and the modulation torque ripple. Additionally, the relationship between the field harmonics and the torque ripple is discussed based on the GAFMT. Then, a finite element analysis (FEA)-assisted dual fast Fourier transformation (FFT) method is proposed to obtain the accurate value of the field amplitude for torque ripple calculation. The field analysis results based on the GAFMT and the proposed torque ripple are then validated by comparing their results with those obtained from the FEA simulations, and a good agreement is observed, demonstrating the effectiveness of the field analysis and the proposed torque ripple model. Finally, experiments on a prototype 12/8 IPM machine demonstrate the validity of the torque ripple model, providing an effective method for torque ripple suppression of IPM machines. Airborne transient electromagnetic (ATEM) technology is a technique often used in mineral exploration and geological mapping. Due to inductive polarization (IP) phenomena, the ATEM response curve often shows a negative response or declines rapidly to the attenuation curve. Traditional resistivity inversion techniques do not explain the IP response of a signal well, so the negative response is usually removed during data processing, resulting in a reduced correctness and authenticity of the findings. In this paper, in the parameter inversion based on the Cole–Cole model, the Jacobian matrix chain analysis method is used to calculate, and the current waveform calculation is also considered in the inversion. The results show that compared with the perturbation method, the analysis technique can greatly reduce the calculation time and improve the inversion efficiency. In the single-point one-dimensional inversion and lateral constraint quasi-two-dimensional inversion, the Cole–Cole four-parameter forward response has strong inversion accuracy, which can successfully invert the actual exploration content and the Cole–Cole four-parameter response. Some measured sounding data in the Qingchengzi survey area of Liaoning Province, China have a negative response to IP, and the resistivity scheme cannot be used alone for inversion, but the real underground resistivity structure can be obtained through the method studied in this paper, and good exploration results can be obtained. This paper presents an experimental, numerical, and analytical study of a novel specimen subjected to local in-plane load, to investigate its crushing deformation and resistance. The specimen was designed and fabricated to simplify the cruciform structure in double-hulled vessels subjected to external loads during collision and grounding incidents. The study results will provide reliable insights into grounding scenarios as well as side collision scenarios of double-hulled vessels. A quasi-static indentation test and related numerical research showed good agreement regarding deformation mode and force–displacement response. On the basis of the experimental and numerical results, an analytical method is proposed to derive the deformation energy, the instantaneous resistance, and the mean resistance of the deformed structure. The analytical method was verified with recorded test data and a nonlinear finite element analysis. It enables a rapid assessment of the response of the structure under accidental loads, which is a guideline for the design of crashworthy hull structures and the assessment of their crashworthiness. In this paper, we use the modified exp − ψ θ -function method to observe some of the solitary wave solutions for the microtubules (MTs). By treating the issues as nonlinear model partial differential equations describing microtubules, we were able to solve the problem. We then found specific solutions to the nonlinear evolution equation (NLEE) covering various parameters that are particularly significant in biophysics and nanobiosciences. In addition to the soliton-like pulse solutions, we also find the rational, trigonometric, hyperbolic, and exponential function characteristic solutions for this equation. The validity of the method we developed and the fact that it provides more solutions are demonstrated by comparison to other methods. We next use the software Mathematica 10 to generate 2D, 3D, and contour plots of the precise findings we observed using the suggested technique and the proper parameter values. Hydrogels, as a type of three-dimensional porous material, have attracted a lot of attention in the fields of drug delivery, artificial tissue engineering, and sensing. Due to their excellent biocompatibility and high sensitivity to external stimuli, they are widely used in the development of various sensors. Among them, the sensors constructed based on the sol–gel transition of target-responsive hydrogels are particularly welcome. Herein, the status of the sensors on the basis of sol–gel transition has been presented. The types of hydrogel sensors and the analytical methods in various application scenarios are illustrated. The extraction of shale gas from onshore and offshore shale gas reservoirs will play an important role in meeting China's future energy needs, which will not only help alleviate the energy crisis but also contribute to climate change mitigation. As for the target shale formation enriched by thin sandstone layers in typical basins, an analytical calculation method is proposed to perform pressure analysis for multi-layer shale gas reservoirs considering the adsorption–desorption characteristics of shale layer and the interlayer cross-flow. Firstly, the changes in storage capacity and flow resistance are obtained by using the distance of investigation equation. According to the electrical analogy, the equivalent total storage capacity and flow resistance can be calculated considering the sandstone-shale crossflow. Because production from one time step to the other causes depletion of the storage capacity, the reservoir pressure in different time steps can be calculated based on the material balance equation. Numerical models have been constructed based on three typical reservoir lithology combinations (sandstone-shale, shale-sandstone-shale and sandstone-shale-sandstone) to validate the accuracy of the proposed analytical calculation method. Furthermore, three important factors (porosity, the ratio of horizontal/vertical permeability (kh/kv) and the layer thickness) have been selected for the sensitivity analysis to verify the stability. The comparative results indicate that the proposed analytical calculation method is suitable for pressure analysis in shale gas reservoirs containing thin sandstone layers. The dewatering of foundation pits with a suspended waterproof curtain causes different groundwater drawdowns inside and outside the pit, resulting in the drawdown difference between the inside and outside the pit. Maintaining a groundwater drawdown difference between the inside and outside of a foundation pit can eliminate the adverse effects of dewatering on the surrounding environment. According to previous studies on unsteady flow, an analytical solution of the groundwater drawdown with a suspended waterproof curtain under unsteady flow has been proposed. The analytical solution of unsteady flow and the formula of groundwater drawdown difference with a suspended waterproof curtain were validated by comparing pumping tests and finite-element method (FEM), in which a good agreement was observed. The magnitude of the drawdown difference generally represents the extent of surrounding groundwater affected by groundwater drawdown inside the pit. This paper also investigated the effects of sensitivity parameters on the drawdown difference for minimizing the effect of surrounding environment. During the process of dewatering with a suspended waterproof curtain, the groundwater drawdown (Sh) should not exceed the length of the waterproof curtain (L), and the optimal radius of foundation pit (Rw) and length of waterproof curtain (L) were found, i.e., Rw/H0 = 0.781 and L/H0 = 0.813 (H0 is 32 m). Beyond these values, the drawdown difference tends to be stable. The drawdown difference is also significantly affected by the dewatering time. When t < 48 h, the groundwater drawdown difference decreases rapidly; when t > 48 h, the groundwater drawdown difference stabilizes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Radiofrequency (RF) coils are employed to transmit and/or receive signals in Magnetic Resonance (MR) systems. The design of home-made, organ-specific RF coils with optimized homogeneity and/or Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) can be a plus in many research projects. The first step requires accurate inductance calculation, this depending on the conductor's geometry, to later define the tuning capacitor necessary to obtain the desired resonance frequency. To fulfil such a need it is very useful to perform a priori inductance estimation rather than relying on the time-consuming trial-and-error approach. This paper describes and compares two different procedures for coil inductance estimation to allow for a fast coil-prototyping process. The first method, based on calculations in the quasi-static approximation, permits an investigation on how the cross-sectional geometry of the RF coil conductors affects the total inductance and can be easily computed for a wide variety of coil geometries. The second approach uses a numerical full-wave method based on the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) algorithm, and permits the simulation of RF coils with any complex geometry, including the case of multi-element phased array. In this paper we present an efficient Matlab computation of a 3-D electromagnetic scattering problem, in which a plane wave impinges with a generic inclination onto a conducting ellipsoid of revolution. This solid is obtained by the rotation of an ellipse around one of its axes, which is also known as a spheroid. We have developed a fast and ad hoc code to solve the electromagnetic scattering problem, using spheroidal vector wave functions, which are special functions used to describe physical problems in which a prolate or oblate spheroidal reference system is considered. Numerical results are presented, both for TE and TM polarization of the incident wave, and are validated by a comparison with results obtained by a commercial electromagnetic simulator. This study investigates the steady flow resulting from dewatering by a partially penetrating well in a confined aquifer with a cut-off barrier. By considering flow in both horizontal and vertical directions and incorporating the barrier and pumping well as flow boundary conditions, separate mathematical models are established for the inside and outside of the cut-off barrier. The interaction between these zones is ensured through continuous conditions along the opening of the two zones. A semi-analytical solution is derived for the problem using the finite Fourier cosine transform and boundary transformation methods. The effectiveness of the method is verified by comparing it with the finite element numerical results and pumping test data respectively. Based on the proposed solutions, we proceed to analyze the influence of some relevant factors: the extent to which the cut-off wall is embedded within the confined aquifer, the depth of the partially penetrating well, and the distance to the lateral head boundary. Results indicate that a greater depth of the cut-off wall leads to a reduced pumping rate requirement for achieving a desired drawdown of the confined water level within the excavation. According to the presented solution, placing pumping wells near the top of the confined aquifer in excavation dewatering projects can facilitate a faster reduction of the confined water head at the excavation bottom. Additionally, proximity of lateral head boundary could significantly impact dewatering, with closer boundaries reducing dewatering effectiveness due to improved aquifer recharge. Finally, the use of the Fourier method showcases impressive convergence properties in the approach presented in this study. Studies have substantiated that the vibration and noise produced by the iron core of an electromagnetic device are closely related to the magnetostriction of the iron core silicon steel sheet. Moreover, when the induction motor works under the condition of frequency conversion, the symmetry of the core silicon steel sheet will change, and the distribution of the vibration and noise field of the motor will be asymmetric, which will aggravate the vibration and noise. This paper completes the experimental measurement and analysis of the electromagnetic characteristics and magnetostrictive characteristics of silicon steel sheets. The magnetic field of a 1140 V/75 kW variable-frequency motor is calculated analytically based on the analytical method, and the stator/rotor magnetic induction intensity and permeance are calculated separately to obtain the air gap magnetic density and the radial electromagnetic force. The vibration and noise of the 1140 V/75 kW variable-frequency motor are analyzed by the finite element method, while the magnetization curve and magnetostrictive characteristic curve of a silicon steel sheet under different conditions are considered. An experimental platform is built to measure and analyze the vibration displacement and acceleration of the variable frequency motor, which verifies the correctness of the proposed scheme. The lifting operation of offshore pipelines is an important step in ocean pipeline engineering. An effective analytical method is developed for investigating the mechanical properties of the pipeline based on mechanical, physical, and geometric relationships. By using the shooting and the secant methods to transform the boundary value problem into an initial value one and then solving them with the Runge–Kutta method, the deformation and mechanical properties of the pipeline are calculated. Furthermore, based on the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) offshore standard, the mechanical properties of the pipeline are checked. The finite element method (FEM) by Orcaflex is employed to verify the accuracy of the analytical model. The effects of some factors such as the current velocity and lifting point position on the mechanical properties of the pipeline are analyzed based on the analytical model. The results indicate that the change in current velocity during the lifting process has a minimal effect on the pipeline, but the change in lifting point position significantly affects the deformation and mechanical properties of the pipeline. The presence of drug residues in food products has become a growing concern because of the adverse health risks and regulatory implications. Drug residues in food refer to the presence of pharmaceutical compounds or their metabolites in products such as meat, fish, eggs, poultry and ready-to-eat foods, which are intended for human consumption. These residues can come from the use of drugs in the field of veterinary medicine, such as antibiotics, antiparasitic agents, growth promoters and other veterinary drugs given to livestock and aquaculture with the aim of providing them as prophylaxis, therapy and for promoting growth. Various analytical techniques are used for this purpose to control the maximum residue limit. Compliance with the maximum residue limit is very important for food manufacturers according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or European Union (EU) regulations. Effective monitoring and control of drug residues in food requires continuous advances in analytical techniques. Few studies have been reviewed on sample extraction and preparation techniques as well as challenges and future directions for the determination of veterinary drug residues in food. This current review focuses on the overview of regulations, classifications and types of food, as well as the latest analytical methods that have been used in recent years (2020–2023) for the determination of drug residues in food so that appropriate methods and accurate results can be used. The results show that chromatography is still a widely used technique for the determination of drug residue in food. Other approaches have been developed including immunoassay, biosensors, electrophoresis and molecular-based methods. Based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and Kelvin–Voigt viscoelastic model, one derives a wave equation of longitudinal guide waves in viscoelastic orthotropic cylindrical shells, which analytically solves the wave equation and explains the intrinsic meaning of the wave propagation. In the numerical examples, the velocity curves of the first few modes for the elastic cylindrical shell are first calculated, and the results of the available literature are compared to verify the derivation and programming. Furthermore, the phase velocity curves and attenuation coefficient curves of the guide waves for a functionally graded (FG) shell are calculated, and the effects of viscoelastic parameters, material gradient patterns, material volume fractions, and size ratios on the phase velocity curves and attenuation curves are studied. This study can be widely used to analytically model the wave propagating in inhomogeneous viscoelastic composite structures and present a theoretical basis for the excellent service performance of composite structures and ultrasonic devices. We obtain an analytical solution for the time-optimal control problem in the induction phase of anesthesia. Our solution is shown to align numerically with the results obtained from the conventional shooting method. The induction phase of anesthesia relies on a pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) model proposed by Bailey and Haddad in 2005 to regulate the infusion of propofol. In order to evaluate our approach and compare it with existing results in the literature, we examine a minimum-time problem for anesthetizing a patient. By applying the Pontryagin minimum principle, we introduce the shooting method as a means to solve the problem at hand. Additionally, we conducted numerical simulations using the MATLAB computing environment. We solve the time-optimal control problem using our newly proposed analytical method and discover that the optimal continuous infusion rate of the anesthetic and the minimum required time for transition from the awake state to an anesthetized state exhibit similarity between the two methods. The bond between a steel reinforcement/rod and glulam plays a crucial role in the resistance and deformation capacity of timbers joints. Existing studies provide different bond–slip models for reinforcements and rods with different anchorage lengths, in which the relationship between local bond stress and global bond behaviour cannot not be established. This study presents a unified analytical method for predicting the bond–slip behaviour of ribbed bars and threaded rods along the grain using a local bond–slip model of reinforcement at the elastic and post-yield stages. In the analytical method, equilibrium, compatibility, and constitutive models for reinforcement and rods are considered. The method is verified using test data of rebars and rods with different anchorage lengths. Comparisons between the experimental and calculated results suggest that the analytical method yields reasonably good predictions of the load–slip relationship and failure mode. Furthermore, the embedment lengths required for yield and the ultimate strengths of the reinforcement and rods along the grain are determined by assuming uniform bond stress distributions over the elastic and post-yield steel segment. The average bond stress over the entire anchorage length is calculated and compared with existing equations. Levodopa (L-DOPA) treatment, combined with the administration of dopa-decarboxylase inhibitors (DDCIs), is still the most effective symptomatic treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD). Although its efficacy in the early stage of the disease has been confirmed, its complex pharmacokinetics (PK) increases the variability of the intra-individual motor response, thus amplifying the risk of motor/non-motor fluctuations and dyskinesia. Moreover, it has been demonstrated that L-DOPA PK is strongly influenced by several clinical, therapeutic, and lifestyle variables (e.g., dietary proteins). L-DOPA therapeutic monitoring is therefore crucial to provide personalized therapy, hence improving drug efficacy and safety. To this aim, we have developed and validated an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) method to quantify L-DOPA, levodopa methyl ester (LDME), and the DDCI carbidopa in human plasma. The compounds were extracted by protein precipitation and samples were analyzed with a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The method showed good selectivity and specificity for all compounds. No carryover was observed, and dilution integrity was demonstrated. No matrix effect could be retrieved; intra-day and inter-day precision and accuracy values met the acceptance criteria. Reinjection reproducibility was assessed. The described method was successfully applied to a 45-year-old male patient to compare the pharmacokinetic behavior of an L-DOPA-based medical treatment involving commercially available Mucuna pruriens extracts and an LDME/carbidopa (100/25 mg) formulation. An analytical method to predict the elastic modulus of the sandwich body-centered cubic (BCC) lattice structure is presented on the basis of the assumption of a linearly changing elastic modulus. In the constrained region, the maximum of elastic modulus used the elastic moduli of the BCC lattice element with plate constraints and is calculated with Timoshenko beam theory, the minimum used without plate constraints. In the rest of the constrained region, a linear function along the thickness direction is proposed to calculate elastic modulus. The elastic modulus of the unconstrained region is constant and it is the same as the minimum of the constrained region. The elastic modulus of the whole sandwich BCC lattice structure can be calculated theoretically with the elastic modulus of the constrained and unconstrained regions and a single-layer slice integration method. Six kinds of sandwich BCC lattice structures with different geometric parameters are designed and made by resin 3D printing technology, and the elastic moduli are measured. By comparing the predictions of the elastic modulus using the proposed analytical method and existing method with experimental results, the errors between the results of the existing method and the experimental results varied from 10.3% to 24.7%, and the errors between the results of the proposed method and the experimental results varied from 1.6% to 7.4%, proving that the proposed method is more accurate than the existing methods. The young leaves and shoots of V. tetrasperma are consumed daily as cooked vegetables and can provide various health benefits. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacities of its total extract and fractions were accessed for the first time in this study. The bioactivities guided the separation of the active fraction (EtOAc), leading to the identification of nine flavonoid glycoside compositions from this plant for the first time. In addition, the fractions and all isolates were evaluated for their inhibition against NO and IL-8 production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 and HT-29 cell lines, respectively. The most active ingredient was further assayed for its inhibitory abilities to iNOS and COX-2 proteins. Indeed, its mechanisms of action modes were confirmed by Western blotting assays through the reduction in their expression levels. An in silico approach revealed the substantial binding energies of docked compounds into established complexes to verify their anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, the presence of active components in the plant was validated by an established method on the UPLC-DAD system. Our research has boosted the value of this vegetable's daily use and provided a therapeutic approach for the development of functional food products for health improvement regarding the treatment of oxidation and inflammation. The behaviour of the interface between two concrete layers, subjected to shear, is a complex process that is influenced by many different parameters. Knowledge of concrete interface performance is insufficient to this day. Most of the existing analytical methods are only suitable for determining the highest interface shear resistance and do not consider the interface behaviour at other stages. This article focuses on smooth concrete interfaces, which have their layers cast at different times (cold-joint interface). By analysing the results of different experimental push-off tests, presented in the literature, a novel analytical method was developed for the previously described concrete interface. Furthermore, numerical models of push-off tests were developed. A parametric numerical analysis was employed to determine the influence of various physical parameters that might affect interface shear behaviour. Most importantly, the results acquired using the proposed analytical method were compared with the findings of numerical analysis and experimental results acquired by other authors. The values of shear stress and slippage were found to be relatively close. Tolfenpyrad, a pyrazolamide insecticide, can be effectively used against pests resistant to carbamate and organophosphate insecticides. In this study, a molecular imprinted polymer using tolfenpyrad as a template molecule was synthesized. The type of functional monomer and the ratio of functional monomer to template were predicted by density function theory. Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs) were synthesized using 2-vinylpyridine as a functional monomer in the presence of ethylene magnetite nanoparticles at a monomer/tolfenpyrad ratio of 7:1. The successful synthesis of MMIPs is confirmed by the results of the characterization analysis by scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometer, thermogravimetric analyzer, and vibrational sample magnetometers. A pseudo-second-order kinetic model fit the adsorption of tolfenpyrad, and the kinetic data are in good agreement with the Freundlich isothermal model. The adsorption capacity of the polymer to the target analyte was 7.20 mg/g, indicating an excellent selective extraction capability. In addition, the adsorption capacity of the MMIPs is not significantly lost after several reuses. The MMIPs showed great analytical performance in tolfenpyrad-spiked lettuce samples, with acceptable accuracy (intra- and inter-day recoveries of 90.5–98.8%) and precision (intra- and inter-day relative standard deviations of 1.4–5.2%). For the study of these phenomena, the application of computational techniques that allow the design of machines and devices used in engineering becomes crucial. In this paper, a new constitutive matrix [ M τ ] for thermal conduction, for tetrahedral meshes, in a steady state thermal regime is developed through a new algebraic methodology, using the Cell Method as a computational method, which is included in the finite formulation. The constitutive matrix defines the behavior of solids when they are under a thermal potential. The results are compared with those obtained for the same problem by means of the constitutive matrix [ M λ ] developed previously, taking in both cases with a 2D axisymmetric model as reference, calculated with the finite element method. A multidisciplinary design analysis and optimization process is developed at ONERA for the design of tube and wing and blended wing–body aircraft configurations. This process is composed of different disciplinary modules (geometry, propulsion, aerodynamics, structure, handling qualities and flight mission), and the overall process considers different fidelity levels for these modules at each step of the design process. This article describes the low-fidelity aerodynamic module used during the preliminary design optimization process. Analytical formulations retained for lift and drag components are presented in the first part. Then, the performances estimated by the aerodynamic module on some reference configurations are compared with both numerical and experimental data, showing a quite good agreement for both tube and wing and blended wing–body configurations not only for global performance but also for individual drag components. Modal analysis and structural parameters selection are essential in the structural design of the crossbeam of a gantry machine tool. In order to explore an efficient modal analysis method, the analytical method of modes of the beam with variable cross-section is derived based on the Euler beam theory and transfer matrix method. By dividing the machine tool crossbeam into 27 segments, the crossbeam modes are obtained analytically, which is validated by the finite element method. Compared with the FEM, the analytical method shows high efficiency. On this basis, the influence of various structural parameters, including bending stiffness and linear density, on the crossbeam mode is explored, and the sensitivity analysis is carried out. The results show that the first-order bending frequency of the crossbeam is mainly affected by the bending stiffness in the middle part of the crossbeam, followed by the linear density in the middle and end part. The first-order bending frequency of the crossbeam increases by increasing the bending stiffness in the middle part and decreasing the linear density of the crossbeam. The linear density both in the middle and end part has a great effect on the mode shape of the crossbeam. Vancomycin is regarded as the last resort of defense for a wide range of infections due to drug resistance and toxicity. The detection of vancomycin in plasma has always aroused particular concern because the performance of the assay affects the clinical treatment outcome. This article reviews various methods for vancomycin detection in human plasma and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of each technique. Immunoassay has been the first choice for vancomycin concentration monitoring due to its simplicity and practicality, occasionally interfered with by other substances. Chromatographic methods have mainly been used for scientific research due to operational complexity and the particular requirement of the instrument. However, the advantages of a small amount of sample needed, high sensitivity, and specificity makes chromatography irreplaceable. Other methods are less commonly used in clinical applications because of the operational feasibility, clinical application, contamination, etc. Simplicity, good performance, economy, and environmental friendliness have been points of laboratory methodological concern. A simple, sensitive, and rapid multi-residue analytical method was developed based on gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC–MS/MS) and used to determine 77 multiclass pesticides in red ginseng. Samples were extracted and purified via a modified QuEChERS method. The calibration curves were in the range of 5 to 200 ng mL−1. The limits of detection (LODs) of the method were from 0.08 to 4.0 μg kg−1 and limits of quantification (LOQs) were in the range of 0.2–12.0 μg kg−1. The average recoveries of the method ranged from 61% to 133.9% at two spiked levels of 20 and 100 μg kg−1 in red ginseng samples, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 0.2% to 14.9%. To evaluate the collapse pressure of the steel–composite hybrid cylinders under external pressure without excessive computational cost, an analytical formula was derived in this study. The rationality of the derived formula was verified by the comparison with experimental and numerical results. The experimental results indicate that samples are manufactured and tested with good quality. The derived formula considered material failure and could reasonably predict the collapse pressure of the steel–composite hybrid cylinders with a maximum difference of 3.1%. Moreover, the effects of the wrap angle, thickness, and length on the collapse pressure of the hybrid cylinders were theoretically analyzed. The loading capacity of the hybrid cylinders was maximized under a wrap angle of ±55° for the composite layer. The massive use of pesticides has brought great risks to food and environmental safety. It is necessary to develop reliable analytical methods and evaluate risks through monitoring studies. Here, a method was used for the simultaneous determination of flupyradifurone (FPF) and its two metabolites in fresh ginseng, dried ginseng, ginseng plants, and soil. The method exhibited good accuracy (recoveries of 72.8–97.5%) and precision (relative standard deviations of 1.1–8.5%). The field experiments demonstrated that FPF had half-lives of 4.5–7.9 d and 10.0–16.9 d in ginseng plants and soil, respectively. The concentrations of total terminal residues in soil, ginseng plants, dried ginseng, and ginseng were less than 0.516, 2.623, 2.363, and 0.641 mg/kg, respectively. Based on these results, the soil environmental risk assessment shows that the environmental risk of FPF to soil organisms is acceptable. The processing factors for FPF residues in ginseng were 3.82–4.59, indicating that the concentration of residues increased in ginseng after drying. A dietary risk assessment showed that the risk of FPF residues from long-term and short-term dietary exposures to global consumers were 0.1–0.4% and 12.07–13.16%, respectively, indicating that the application of FPF to ginseng at the recommended dose does not pose a significant risk to consumers. This paper presents a novel analytical method (NAM) of inductance identification for a direct drive permanent magnet synchronous motor (DDPMSM) with a stator winding fault (SWF), which considers the spatial position of the shorted turns. First, the structure of the DDPMSM is introduced and its key parameters are reported. Second, the NAM on the inductance identification is elaborated. The inductance analytical expressions of the faulty coil are derived in detail, in which the inductances of the faulty coil and the fault branch can be quickly calculated according to the spatial position coordinates of fault turns. Then, the model of DDPMSM with SWF is established. Finally, using the NAM, finite-element method (FEM), and the simplified analytical method (SAM), the inductances of the faulty coil and the branch are calculated under different fault conditions. Additionally, the fault current of the faulty coil is also studied, where the value of the fault current reflects the fault severity. With increased obesity rates worldwide and the rising popularity in social media usage, we have witnessed a growth in hate speech towards fat/obese people. The severity of hate content has prompted researchers to study public perceptions that give rise to fat stigma from social media discourses. This article presents a systematic literature review of recent literature published in this domain to gauge the current state of research and identify possible research gaps. We have examined existing research (i.e., peer-reviewed articles that were systematically included using the EBSCO discovery service) to study their methodological aspects by reviewing their context, domain, analytical methods, techniques, tools, features and limitations. Our findings reveal that while recent studies have explored fat stigma content in social media, these mostly acquired manual analytical methods regardless of the evolved machine learning, natural language processing and deep learning methods. Although fat stigma in social media has gained enormous attention in current socio-psychological research, there exists a gap between how such research is conducted and what technologies are being applied, which limits in-depth investigations of fat stigma discussions. Polyphenols, the most abundant components in tea, determine the quality and health function of tea. The analysis of polyphenols in tea is a topic of increasing interest. However, the complexity of the tea matrix, the wide variety of teas, and the difference in determination purposes puts forward higher requirements for the detection of tea polyphenols. Many efforts have been made to provide a highly sensitive and selective analytical method for the determination and characterization of tea polyphenols. In order to provide new insight for the further development of polyphenols in tea, in the present review we summarize the recent literature for the detection of tea polyphenols from the perspectives of determining total polyphenols and individual polyphenols in tea. There are a variety of methods for the analysis of total tea polyphenols, which range from the traditional titration method, to the widely used spectrophotometry based on the color reaction of Folin–Ciocalteu, and then to the current electrochemical sensor for rapid on-site detection. Additionally, the application of improved liquid chromatography (LC) and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) were emphasized for the simultaneous determination of multiple polyphenols and the identification of novel polyphenols. Anionic surfactants (AS) are becoming a major emerging contaminant of waters due to their widespread use in household and industrial products. The standard chloroform method for analysis of AS in water relies on chloroform extraction of a methylene blue active substance (MBAS), which contains ion pairs between methylene blue (MB) molecules (positively charged) and AS. Due to the poor extractability of chloroform, the procedure is complicated, time-consuming, and subject to anionic interferences. A mixture of methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK)–1,2-dichloroethane (DCE) at a 3:1 ratio of MIBK:DCE proved to be a robust solvent for AS extraction for a wide range of samples under various chemical conditions. The objectives of this research were to set the washing protocol to eliminate the anionic interferences in the MIBK-DCE extraction and to develop a new simplified analytical method for AS analysis using the MIBK-DCE (3:1) extractant. The suitability of the proposed MIBK-DCE method was validated based on quality control and assurance criteria, such as selectivity, accuracy, precision, method detection limit (MDL), limit of quantification (LOQ), and sensitivity. Various water samples, such as freshwater, wastewater, and seawater, were used for the method development and validation. Interferences by inorganic and organic anions were evident in the reference chloroform method but were eliminated in the MIBK-DCE procedure with a two-step process that consisted of washing with a carbonate/bicarbonate solution at pH 9.2 and a mixture of silver sulfate (Ag2SO4) and potassium alum (AlK(SO4)2). The simplified MIBK-DCE method for sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) analysis consisted of (i) sample pre-treatment, (ii) MIBK-DCE extraction, (iii) washing and filtration, and (iv) absorbance measurement. The MIBK-DCE method was accurate, precise, selective, and sensitive for AS analysis and showed MDL of 0.0001 mg/L, LOQ of 0.0005 mg/L, relative standard deviation (RSD) of 0.1%, and recovery of 99.0%. All these criteria were superior to those of the chloroform method. Sensitivity analysis showed highly significant correlations in AS analyses between the MIBK-DCE and chloroform methods for domestic wastewater, industrial wastewater, and seawater. The MIBK-DCE method is simple, rapid, robust, reproducible, and convenient, when compared to the chloroform method. A number of solitary wave solutions for microtubules (MTs) are observed in this article by using the modified exp-function approach. We tackle the problem by treating the results as nonlinear RLC transmission lines, and then finding exact solutions to Nonlinear Evolution Equation (NLEE) containing parameters of particular importance in biophysics and nanobiosciences. For this equation, we find trigonometric, hyperbolic, rational, and exponential function solutions, as well as soliton-like pulse solutions. A comparison with other approach indicates the legitimacy of the approach we devised as well as the fact that our method offers extra solutions. Finally, we plot 2D, 3D and contour visualizations of the exact results that we observed using our approach using appropriate parameter values with the help of software Mathematica 10. For the construction of ecofriendly ships, fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), ammonia, and hydrogen are being discussed as alternatives. LNG fuel has recently been applied to shipbuilding. The most important aspect of an LNG propulsion ship is the LNG storage tank, because LNG is stored at a high pressure and low temperature. Cryogenic steels are needed to evaluate safety in weld joints, especially the LNG storage tank which has a dissimilar weld joint with a STS pipe. The dissimilar weld joint has a complex welding residual stress distribution. It is necessary to evaluate the effects of temperature changes that occur during the loading–unloading process of LNG. In this study, the residual stress distribution characteristics of heterogeneous welding parts welded to STS pipes using 9% Ni steel, STS, and high-manganese austenitic steel in an LNG storage tank were investigated through experimental and analytical methods. The thermal stress due to the difference in thermal expansion coefficient between cryogenic steel and the STS pipe occurred with a small amount in loading–unloading of LNG. When high-manganese austenitic steels and the STS pipe were joined, tensile stress was generated at the dissimilar weld joint owing to the temperature difference generated during the LNG loading–unloading process. STS has a homogenous weld joint and identical thermal expansion coefficients; therefore, the shrinkage and expansion were not affected by the temperature change. The welding residual stress at the dissimilar weld joints was measured via an experimental cutting method, and the results indicated that the tensile residual stress had distribution similar to the yield stress of the material. The stress generated by the temperature change and the welding residual stress overlapped and occurred during the loading–unloading process of the LNG tank; however, the final tensile stress below the tensile stress was distributed in the storage tank. Wind towers or wind catchers, as passive cooling systems, can provide natural ventilation in buildings located in hot, arid regions. These natural cooling systems can provide thermal comfort for the building inhabitants throughout the warm months. In this paper, a modular design of a wind tower is introduced. The design, called a modular wind tower with wetted surfaces, was investigated experimentally and analytically. To determine the performance of the wind tower, air temperature, relative humidity (RH) and air velocity were measured at different points. Measurements were carried out when the wind speed was zero. The experimental results were compared with the analytical ones. The results illustrated that the modular wind tower can decrease the air temperature significantly and increase the relative humidity of airflow into the building. The average differences for air temperature and air relative humidity between ambient air and air exiting from the wind tower were approximately 10 °C and 40%, respectively. Consequent pole hybrid excitation synchronous (CPHES) machines have the advantage of symmetrical bidirectional magnetomotive force increments. Compared with a traditional hybrid excitation motor (HEM), a CPHES machine improves the disadvantage of asymmetry in the adjustment range when magnetization and demagnetization occur. The calculation and analysis of the cogging torque of the CPHES machine are complex due to the complicated structure. This paper proposes an analytical method for calculating the cogging torque of a CPHES machine. This analytical method converts the complex three-dimensional magnetic field problem into a two-dimensional magnetic circuit problem and, through the accumulation method, can quickly and accurately calculate the cogging torque of the CPHES machine. In contrast with the finite element method, the calculation results basically follow each other, but the analytical method is more efficient and omits complicated meshing. Daptomycin is an important antimicrobial for clinical practice, mainly because it remains very active against Gram-positive resistant strains, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and vancomycin-resistant enterococci. Development of microbiological methods for the analysis of antimicrobials is highly recommended, since they can provide important information about their biological activities, which physicochemical methods are not able to provide. Considering that there are no studies in the literature describing microbiological methods for the analysis of daptomycin, the aim of this work was to validate a microbiological method for the quantitation of daptomycin by the turbidimetric assay. Staphylococcus aureus was used as the test microorganism, and the brain heart infusion broth was used as the culture medium. The validation of the method was performed according to the ICH guidelines, and it was shown to be linear, precise, robust, accurate and selective, over a concentration range of 8.0 to 18.0 μg mL-1. Student's t-test showed the interchangeability of the proposed method with a previously-validated HPLC method.
