Background: Paper mulberry has been regarded as a potential protein resource for relieving the forage supply crisis, and ensiling has become the most important method for preserving it. An in-depth analysis of the fermentation characteristics of paper mulberry silage could provide a theoretical basis for producing high-quality silage. In this study, we aimed to investigate the dynamic fermentation quality and bacterial community of paper mulberry silages harvested from different regions in China. Results: The results showed an increased trend in ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) concentration, despite a decrease in pH with prolonged ensiling days. Furthermore, fermentation patterns varied among paper mulberry silages from three regions. Paper mulberry from Zhuozhou, Hebei (HZ) showed the highest dry matter (DM) content and a slight decrease in pH during ensiling. While the lowest DM content was observed in Hechi, Guangxi (GH), which exhibited abnormal fermentation in the silage. In particular, silage from Lankao, Henan (HL) exhibited the best fermentation quality, with lower pH and NH3-N concentration, and higher lactic acid concentration than others (P < 0.05). The bacterial richness and evenness also declined with prolonged ensiling. Among all samples, Enterobacter was the most abundant in all silages, with a trend of increasing and then decreasing during the fermentation process. Pseudocitrobacter dominated in GH silage with abnormal fermentation. Although the bacteria community during ensiling varied widely among silages from different regions, Enterobacter cloacae and Lactobacillus plantarum were the main differential bacteria in silage quality of paper mulberry. Conclusion: Ensiling days and regions had significant effects on the fermentation patterns and bacterial community of paper mulberry silage which might be due to the differences in DM content. Notably, silage quality showed a close relationship with Enterobacter cloacae and Lactobacillus plantarum. Addressing the excessive input and inefficient use of agrochemicals are crucial for global food security, environmental protection, and human health. This paper offers a new idea from the perspective of outsourcing agricultural production. The impact of outsourcing on the frequency and intensity of agrochemical inputs were theoretically analyzed and empirically tested using a field survey of 1211 farmers in Heilongjiang, Henan, and Hunan, the major food-producing areas in China. A Logit regression framework was used to analyze the effect, a conditional mixture process (CMP) method was used to address potential endogeneity concerns, and a mediation effect model was used to dissect the mechanism. The results show that the effect of outsourcing on both input frequency and input intensity of agrochemicals was positive at the 1% significance level. The positive effect conclusion still holds even after addressing the potential endogeneity concerns, and in the sub-sample estimates for maize, wheat, and rice. We conclude that outsourcing can improve the utilization efficiency of agrochemicals by increasing the frequency of agrochemical inputs, but fail to solve the excessive agrochemical inputs and even leads to a further increase in the intensity of agrochemical inputs. Moreover, the mechanism for an increase in agrochemical input intensity due to outsourcing was explored, and it is more likely to be caused by inhibiting farmers' investment in soil improvement measures. This paper explores the intersection of spirituality and martial arts through an in-depth examination of Shaolin Kung Fu as practiced within the Shaolin Monastery in Henan Province, China. Conducting fieldwork from April 2018 to August 2020, the study employs theories of practice and embodiment to understand how religious teachings are interwoven into physical movements and martial practices. This phenomenological analysis of bodily movement integrates the physical body with the sense of self, highlighting the relationship between individual habitus and the agency of the moving body, referred to as the "lived body." It argues that Shaolin martial artists engage in a form of dynamic embodiment, where Chan Buddhist doctrines are embedded within the "lived body," influencing both movement and perception. This process allows practitioners to interpret and interact with their socio-cultural environment through a religious lens, highlighting the deep connection between spiritual beliefs and bodily actions. The paper presents a comprehensive approach, combining intensive participant observation, historical analysis, and a close look at both the communal and individual aspects of monastic life and learning. By examining narratives, daily routines, and pedagogical methods, the study reveals how the socio-cultural setting of the monastery fosters collective habitus and transforms the individual habitus of practitioners. It shows how this transformation contributes to the development of a spiritual dimension in their martial performance. By highlighting the link between the habitus, the lived body, and the dynamic embodiment, the paper extends the current discourse on embodiment, offering a novel perspective on the relationship between spirituality, culture, and physical practice in the context of Shaolin Kung Fu. Based on urban flood hydrology processes and hydrodynamic principles, the stormwater management model (SWMM) was improved upon. The coupling and implementation methods of the SWMM and two-dimensional hydrodynamic model are proposed. The improved SWMM was coupled with the hydrodynamic model both from the vertical and horizontal directions. The hydrology and hydrodynamic coupling model (HHDCM) was constructed and verified by using extreme rainstorm data. Taking July.20 extreme rainstorms (from July 17 to July 20, 2021, i.e., July.20 extreme rainstorm) in Zhengzhou city, Henan Province, China, as an example and using the HHDCM model, the flood disaster caused by July.20 extreme rainstorm was simulated. Based on the simulation results, an inundation distribution map was drawn for the urban area. A comparison between the simulated and measured results reveals that the maximum relative error in the simulated results is 12.5%. Henan Province is the birthplace of Chinese civilization and one of the earliest human settlements, which means that the area has an important national cultural heritage. Traditional villages are an important facet of this cultural heritage, and studying their spatiotemporal characteristics in different periods has important theoretical and practical significance for the sustainable development and protection of cultural heritage in the region. This paper takes the traditional villages of the Yellow River basin in Henan Province that were formed before 1919 as the research object. Information on the ancient river was obtained through a literature search as well as via field research, and the important tributaries of the Yellow River in different periods were mapped using ArcGIS 10.0 software. The nearest neighbor index, kernel density estimation, standard deviation ellipse and other methods were adopted to analyze the spatiotemporal characteristics of the traditional villages. The factors that influenced the evolution of traditional villages were explored in depth by combining changes in the course of the river and water conservancy projects. The results show that the formation of traditional villages along the Yellow River in Henan Province has experienced a historical track of growth, contraction, growth and prosperity and stability. The traditional villages along the Yellow River in Henan Province generally show a clustered pattern, forming a dense concentration of traditional villages in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. The center of gravity shows a migration trend from southeast to northwest. In terms of influencing factors, the spatiotemporal evolution of the relationship between villages and their distance to water is closely related to climatic fluctuations, changes in channel, water conservancy projects and social and cultural factors. This paper deepens our understanding of the relationship between traditional village evolution and watersheds by improving the consistency between village spatial distribution and historical geography and provides a useful theoretical reference for the sustainable development of China's traditional villages. Based on the disaster-pregnant environment and development characteristics of landslide disasters in the western region of Henan Province, a generalized model was established by taking the "oblique-cut" locking rock slope in the layered rock slope as the research object. The numerical simulation method was used to analyze the deformation and failure mechanism and stability influence law of the oblique-cut locking rock slope in western Henan under rainfall conditions. The results show that the inclination angle of the weak interlayer directly affects the deformation and failure characteristics of the slope rock mass. With the increase of the geometric parameters of the slope and the inclination angle of the weak interlayer, the failure mechanism is manifested as the slip shear failure along the level at the foot of the slope → the slip shear failure along the level at the foot of the slope (the sliding surface moves upward) → the shear failure in the middle of the slope surface → the slip shear failure along the level at the foot of the slope (the sliding surface moves downward) → the uplift shear failure at the lower edge of the rock layer. When the dip angle of the weak interlayer is constant, the slope stability decreases gradually with the increase in slope gradient and slope height, and the geometric factors of the slope control the overall change trend of the slope stability coefficient. When the slope is greater than 55° and the slope height is greater than 55 m, the shear stress of the slope locking section exceeds its shear strength, and the probability of landslide instability is greatly increased. In recent years, the survival and development of traditional villages in China have been serious challenges. Rural tourism is regarded as an important way to solve rural problems, and the combination of rural culture and tourism has become a new power point for rural development. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the spatial distribution structure between traditional villages and rural tourism. In this paper, rural tourism was represented by the rural tourism characteristic village (RTCV), and Henan Province, China, was taken as a study area to analyze the distribution pattern and spatial correlation of rural tourism and traditional village (TV) and discuss the relationship between the spatial correlation and regional natural environment and socioeconomic factors. The results show that the coupling of the spatial correlation between RTCVs and TVs in Henan was clear. They could be divided into 5 regions based on geographical factors. In addition, the research summarized 4 typical spatial structures between TVs and RTCVs in Henan based on the regional symbiosis theory, and the spatial pattern formation mechanism of TVs and RTCVs was discussed based on three driving mechanisms. Groundwater is an essential resource that meets all of humanity's daily water demands, supports industrial development, influences agricultural output, and maintains ecological equilibrium. The objective behind this research is to find groundwater prospective zones and their sustainable development in Henan Province, located in the North China Plain, with the help of analytical hierarchical process (AHP) and frequency ratio (FR) models. Consequently, a groundwater inventory map was created, utilizing 70% of the data for training and 30% for testing purposes. The resulting maps were overlaid with groundwater levels and the locations of wells within the study area. The performance and validation of the models were assessed using the Area Under Curve (AUC) curve, which indicated an accuracy of 70% for the AHP model and 69% for the FR model. The study indicates that areas with suitable gradients and rainfall patterns generally have high groundwater prospective zonation (GWPZ), i.e., Zhumadian and Nanyang (ZN). However, AHP demonstrated a higher predictive capability in comparison to FR the broader context. Whereas GIS-RS methodology aligns with existing wells and field data that validate it in range of good and excellent. The abnormity of climate change poses environmental concerns and indirectly promotes the development of low-carbon economic growth pattern. Climate change mitigation technology innovations contribute significantly to achieve environmental goals in China, and thus, technological cooperation has become a strategic choice for the Chinese provinces to achieve technological breakthroughs. Based on 3, 280, 808 patents, this study uses social network analysis (SNA) method and similarity measurement to discuss the evolution process and structural features of the spatial correlation network to analyze the patent data from 1985 to 2020. The process for the research is as follows. First, a form solution of the correlation problem to calculate the minimum Euclidean distance is available in the field of social network. Second, the European distance is used to measure the similarity between provinces, and then, SNA is used to construct the spatial correlation network. Finally, the similarity of growth trend of provincial patent applications in different years from a nonlinear perspective is described, so as to calculate the potential provincial linkage strength. The results demonstrate that low-carbon technology innovation in China takes the form of a network structure. The network exhibits significant characteristics of regional agglomeration, and several central provinces exert the role of mediation and transmission, such as Tianjin, Hubei, and Henan. The study contributes by illustrating the current situation of green technology innovation and provides a critical theoretical foundation for the government when formulating future low-carbon economy development policies. The Yellow River Basin has a wealth of tourism resources, a long history of folk sports, and strong legislative support, all of which are advantages for the growth of the sports tourism sector. This study constructs an evaluation index system based on panel data from nine provinces and regions in the Yellow River Basin from 2011 to 2020, and then measures the development index and analyzes the driving factors using the entropy method, coupling coordination degree model, kernel density estimation method, and grey correlation analysis method. The findings demonstrate that (1) the Yellow River Basin's overall level of growth in the sports and tourist sectors exhibits a consistent and upward trend and that Shandong and Henan provinces clearly have an edge over other provinces in terms of development. (2) The geographical development pattern was lower Yellow River > upper Yellow River > middle Yellow River, and the coupling coordination status shifted from slight disorder to good coordination. (3) There is a close connection between sports tourism and variables including population density, financial prowess, and infrastructure growth. The employment population index has the smallest link with invention patent authorization. The macro-policy framework should therefore be strengthened in the future, the sports tourism infrastructure should be improved, and the Yellow River basin's unique sports tourism resources should be fully utilized in order to increase brand influence. In addition, new sports tourism products should be developed in response to market demand and consumer preferences, and enterprise innovation and research and development efforts should be increased in order to achieve high-quality development transformation. As the domestic interprovincial migrants, Uygur traders have been engaged in the Hetian jade trade from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region to the city of Nanyang in Henan Province. Having lived in the private rented houses around the market in the early days, they moved into the government-built public rental housing in 2017, an independently managed community. They have maintained their past residential pattern of living around the market, and gradually develop the community into an inter-embedded multi-ethnic community together with other ethnic groups. Through the history of the formation of the Uygur community in Nanyang Stone Town, this paper presents the process of interaction between the ethnic minority migrants and the local community, examines the responses and influence of the market, society, government, and individuals in this process, aiming to understand how the minority community was formed, to deepen understanding of the "inter-embedded multi-ethnic community", and, in turn, to promote research and reflection on the development of the ethnic community during urbanization in China. This study suggests that such communities surrounding the market are socially extended based on inter-embedded livelihood. The open national market is the core of the social structure of inter-embedded ethnic groups, and market exchange is one of the main relations generated in the current interactions between the ethnic groups. The government's efforts to build inter-embedded communities are conducive to transforming the relationships among ethnic groups from limited interaction to comprehensive and balanced development. Moreover, the improvement of common living environments and increase in exchanges are conducive to upgrading interactions between individuals to extensive and in-depth exchanges among different ethnic groups. Industrial water consumption is a major component of the total regional water consumption. Accurate and scientific prediction of industrial water consumption is an essential guide to the rational use of natural resources. In this paper, we proposed a combined model of CEEMD (collective empirical modal decomposition) and ARIMA (autoregressive integrated moving average) for forecasting industrial water consumption to establish an accurate and efficient forecasting model, because of the poor generalization ability of most current industrial water consumption forecasting models. The influencing factors of industrial water consumption are complex, and the data are non-stationary. "Decomposition-prediction-reconstruction" is one of the significant methods for forecasting time series data, and the data decomposition has a suppressive influence on the modal mixing problem in the EMD decomposition procedure. Based on the smoothing ability of CEEMD for non-smooth signals and the better adaptation of the autoregressive moving average prediction model (ARIMA), a combined CEEMD-ARIMA model was established for industrial water consumption forecasting. This study was conducted for industrial water consumption in Henan Province in central China. The results suggest the combined CEEMD-ARIMA model has a favorable forecasting effect, with an average relative percentage error of 1.96%, and mean square error (MSE) of 0.35, a Nash efficiency coefficient (NSE) of 0.95, a prediction pass rate of 100%, and a better prediction accuracy than the ARIMA model and the combined EEMD-ARIMA model. The water resource carrying capacity (WRCC) is a carrying capacity of natural resources. It affects the application and expansion of the carrying capacity of water resources. This subject involves various elements, such as water resources, the ecological environment system, humans and their economic and social systems, and a wider range of biological groups and their survival needs. Based on the objective recognition of the complex relationship between the water resource system, ecological environment system, and economic and social system, the support scale of water resources and the ecological environment for economic and social development is studied. Current research on the carrying capacity of water resources has mostly shifted from the previously limited support capacity of water resources to include factors such as the population, economy, and ecology, establishing the internal relationships between the economics, water resources, and ecological environment. This reflects the comprehensive carrying capacity of the entire region (or river basin) of water resources and the ecological environment system on an overall economic and social scale. Based on the conceptual connotation of the WRCC and the actual problems facing water resources in Henan Province, the paper uses a system dynamics method to develop information feedback between the four subsystems of Henan Province: economic, population, water resource, and water environment subsystems. The index system of the WRCC in Henan Province is also determined. The weight of each index is comprehensively determined by a combination weighting method of the analytic hierarchy process and an entropy weight method, and then a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method is used to evaluate the WRCC of Henan Province under four different development models. The validation period of the model is 2010–2020, and the forecast period is 2021–2030. The results indicate that during the period 2021–2030, the WRCC of Henan Province showed a slight upward trend overall under the four models, but the increase rates were different under the different models. Among the four models, the comprehensive model's benefit was the best, which not only maintained the healthy and stable development of the economy and society but also improved the pressure on the water resources and the quality of the water environment. The combined weight method (CWM) for comprehensive water resources carrying capacity evaluation is proposed in this paper to evaluate the regional water resources carrying capacity. Firstly, the accelerating genetic algorithm based on analytic hierarchy process (AGA-AHP) method is improved to optimize the expert evaluation matrix and determine the subjective weight, in which entropy weight method is used to determine objective weight, and the combined weight formula is put forward to get the combined weight of evaluation index. Secondly, the certainty degree is calculated by using the multi-dimensional normal cloud model. The obstacle factors of evaluation index are diagnosed. Finally, taking Henan Province as an example, the regional water resources carrying capacity is evaluated by using CWM method. The comparison between single cloud model, AHP-TOPSIS and CWM is made. It is proved that CWM method takes the fuzziness and randomness into account in the evaluation process, and the efficient and intuitive results can be obtained through evaluation. The obstacle degree and the time changing pattern of the index can be clearly diagnosed, which can provide a new idea for the evaluation method of water resources carrying capacity. Air pollution is the result of comprehensive evolution of a dynamic and complex system composed of emission sources, topography, meteorology and other environmental factors. The establishment of spatiotemporal evolution model is of great significance for the study of air pollution mechanism, trend prediction, identification of pollution sources and pollution control. In this paper, the air pollution system is described based on cellular automata and restricted agents, and a Swarm Intelligence based Air Pollution SpatioTemporal Evolution (SI-APSTE) model is constructed. Then the spatiotemporal evolution analysis method of air pollution is studied. Taking Henan Province before and after COVID-19 pandemic as an example, the NO2 products of TROPOMI and OMI were analysed based on SI-APSTE model. The tropospheric NO2 Vertical Column Densities (VCDs) distribution characteristics of spatiotemporal variation of Henan province before COVID-19 pandemic were studied. Then the tropospheric NO2 VCDs of TROPOMI was used to study the pandemic period, month-on-month and year-on-year in 18 urban areas of Henan Province. The results show that SI-APSTE model can effectively analyse the spatiotemporal evolution of air pollution by using environmental big data and swarm intelligence, and also can establish a theoretical basis for pollution source identification and trend prediction. Grotto temples in Henan Province, which began in the Northern Wei Dynasty and ended in the Republic of China, have been excavated and repaired to varying degrees in the Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. In this study, 119 grotto temples sited in Henan Province were considered as the research object, and the spatial and temporal distribution of grotto temples in Henan Province is analyzed by using the method of quantitative geographic analysis and ArcGIS 10.5 software. The analysis results indicate that the grrotto temples (including cliff statues) in Henan Province tend to have a cohesive distribution, with uneven regional distribution, mainly concentrated in the western and northern regions of Henan. The distribution direction and center of the grotto temples (including cliff statues) did not change much during the Northern Dynasties, Sui and Tang dynasties, and Song and Yuan dynasties, mainly distributing in the northwest of Henan. However, the situation underwent significant changes and began to migrate to south of Henan, reflecting the changes the changes in the political and cultural center at that time. The spatiotemporal distribution of the cave temples (including cliff statues) was based on the related topography, river systems, stratigraphic lithology, road traffic, and was direct or indirect influenced by the authorities as well. In order to comprehend the dynamic disaster mechanism induced by overburden rock caving during the advancement of a coal mining face, a physical simulation model is constructed basing on the geological condition of the 21221 mining face at Qianqiu coal mine in Henan Province, China. This study established, a comprehensive monitoring system to investigate the interrelations and evolutionary characteristics among multiple mechanical parameters, including mining-induced stress, displacement, temperature, and acoustic emission events during overburden rock caving. It is suggested that, despite the uniformity of the overburden rock caving interval, the main characteristic of overburden rock lies in its uneven caving strength. The mining-induced stress exhibits a reasonable interrelation with the displacement, temperature, and acoustic emission events of the rock strata. With the advancement of the coal seam, the mining-induced stress undergoes four successive stages: gentle stability, gradual accumulation, high-level mutation, and a return to stability. The variations in other mechanical parameters does not synchronize with the significant changes in mining-induced stress. Before the collapse of overburden rock occurs, rock strata temperature increment decreases and the acoustic emission ringing counts surges with the increase of rock strata displacement and mining-induced stress. Therefore, the collaborative characteristics of mining-induced stress, displacement, temperature, and acoustic emission ringing counts can be identified as the precursor information or overburden rock caving. The GM(1,N) model can consider the impact of many factors on a system, but it is only suitable for short-term prediction of small samples, and its ability to mine data information is weak. In response to this problem, the BP neural network is introduced, and the powerful function approximation ability of neural networks is used to approximate the GM(1,N) model. A new GM(1,N)-BP neural network model is proposed to predict the agricultural grey water footprint in Henan Province. On this basis, the future development trend of agricultural grey water footprint is analyzed. The results show that, after comparison and verification, the new GM(1,N)-BP neural network combination model can greatly improve the prediction accuracy of grey water footprint. From 2021 to 2025, the model predicts that the agricultural grey water footprint of Henan Province will continue to rise, with an increase of 17% compared with 2020. Spatially, the grey water footprint increases from north to south, and in the east–west direction, it is high at both ends and low in the middle, but it is higher in the west than in the east. Silo-cave is a unique human habitation form on the Loess Plateau in northern China, which consists of an excavated 6–7 m deep pit as the courtyard and cave dwellings in the surrounding four walls. This architecture has had a history of more than 7000 years, and yet such "living fossils for the history of dwellings" are now facing great crises and challenges during rapid social and economic development. In this paper, remote sensing and GIS techniques are used to comprehensively and systematically investigate the spatial distributions and morphological characteristics of silo-caves at both the macro and micro scales. The research shows that silo-cave villages are mainly distributed in economically underdeveloped areas, such as West Henan (Yuxi), South Shanxi (Jinnan), Central Shaanxi (Guanzhong), and East Gansu (Longdong). The morphological evolution patterns of typical silo-cave villages are identified, including: (1) retaining the periphery and rebuilding the inner parts of the villages, (2) retaining the inner parts and expanding the periphery of the villages, and (3) rebuilding the inner parts and expanding the periphery of the villages. These patterns are demonstrated to be influenced by many factors, including landforms, traffic conditions, economic development, population growth, and administrative division adjustment. Sustainable development of these traditional silo-cave villages relies on administrative policy and planning, people's awareness of cultural heritage protection, culture inheritance, industrial transformation, and public services. Several deficiencies exist in the present evaluation of land reclamation quality in mining areas. These include the absence of an established set of evaluation index systems and standard acceptance criteria, as well as the use of traditional sampling techniques, which are costly and in efficiency, and time-consuming. Compared with the traditional sampling survey methods, remote sensing has the advantages of a wide detection range, diverse information collection, multiple data-acquiring strategies, high speed, and short cycle. In this study, we used the Xinzhuang coal mining field in Yongcheng, Henan Province as an example to extract information and invert surface parameters using remote sensing techniques, based on national and local reclamation regulations and standards. Subsequently, using remote sensing, we constructed an index system for evaluating land reclamation quality in three aspects: reclaiming project quality, soil quality, and ecological benefits. Through the grading standards of evaluation indicators and quantitative remote sensing models, we determined the extracted information on the area of indicators, roads, ditches, soil moisture, organic matter, and ecological benefits after reclamation. Based on this, we established a quality evaluation model for mining land reclamation using an improved index and method. The evaluation units were divided, and the weight of the evaluation index was determined using the analytic hierarchy process and data envelopment analysis (AHP–DEA) method. The land reclamation quality in the study area was comprehensively evaluated, field accuracy was verified, and the results were analyzed. The results show that, except for the removal of roads, houses, and fishponds in the study area, all 13 evaluation units achieved a score of 60 points or higher. The quality of reclamation met the standards, and the evaluation results were consistent with the conclusions of the field investigation and project acceptance report, demonstrating the reliability and feasibility of the method developed in this study. In recent years, the prevalence of allergic diseases has increased significantly, causing great concern, and wheat, as one of the top 8 food allergens, is a common allergy trigger. Nevertheless, reliable estimates of the positivity rate of wheat allergens in the allergic population in China are still lacking. The systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate the positive detection rate of wheat allergens in the Chinese allergic population and further provide a reference for the prevention of allergy. CNKI, CQVIP, WAN-FANG DATA, Sino Med, PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases were retrieved. Related research and case reports about the positive rate of wheat allergen in the Chinese allergic population published from inception to June 30, 2022, were searched, and meta-analysis was performed using Stata software. The pooled positive rate of wheat allergens and 95% confidence interval were calculated by random effect models, and the publication bias was evaluated using Egger's test. A total of 13 articles were included for the final meta-analysis, in which wheat allergen detection methods involved only serum sIgE testing and SPT assessment. The results showed that the wheat allergen positivity detection rate in Chinese allergic patients was 7.30% (95% CI 5.68–8.92%). Subgroup analysis showed that the positivity rate of wheat allergens was influenced by region, but hardly by age and assessment method. The positive rates of wheat allergy in the population with allergic diseases were 2.74% (95% CI 0.90–4.58%) and 11.47% (95% CI 7.08–15.87%) in southern and northern China, respectively. In particular, the positive rates of wheat allergens were greater than 10% in Shaanxi, Henan and Nei Mongol, all of which belong to the northern region. These results suggest that wheat allergens are an important cause of sensitization in allergic populations from northern China, and therefore attention should be paid to early prevention in high-risk populations. Fluocerite has been shown experimentally and by thermodynamic modeling to be an important phase for the evolution of magmatic-hydrothermal REE mineralizing systems, but one that is rarely observed in nature. The reason for the latter is poorly understood. The newly discovered Taipingzhen REE deposit in Henan province, Central China, is unique for containing abundant fluocerite and thus provides a great opportunity to explore the role of fluocerite in REE mineralization. Fluocerite was the earliest REE mineral to crystallize in this deposit and was replaced extensively by bastnäsite. It has a higher La/Nd ratio than the later-depositing REE minerals, e.g., bastnäsite and monazite. This decrease in the La/Nd ratio with time is interpreted to have resulted from the fluocerite-mediated fractionation of REE (fluocerite prefers the lightest REE during its deposition from a high temperature, sulfate-rich hydrothermal fluid, in which the REE were transported as sulfate complexes). This study provides compelling evidence that fluocerite is, indeed, an important, early crystallizing mineral in magmatic-hydrothermal REE systems, which elsewhere was replaced entirely by bastnäsite during subsequent fluid evolution. Moreover, the study shows that the bastnäsite, which replaced fluocerite, inherited its high La/Nd ratio, suggesting that this ratio could be used as a tool with which to identify the former presence of fluocerite. The preservation of fluocerite in the Taipingzhen deposit is interpreted to have been due to the lack of significant cooling until a late stage of mineralization, at which time most of the fluid was lost from the system. China's natural gas market is focusing on price reform and aims to reconstruct vertically integrated industrial chains in the future. Based on the mixed complementarity problem model of gas markets with nodes in Henan Province, China, as an example, this paper applies numerical modeling to simulate the effects of social welfare and equilibrium prices on nodes in two scenarios: pipeline integration and pipeline separation. The findings reveal the following: (1) Pipeline separation yields greater overall social welfare than pipeline integration, with the welfare shifting from gas producers to consumption markets. (2) Pipeline separation lowers the equilibrium consumption prices by driving competition among gas supply sources. We developed an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry method for testing 23 elements, namely, Mg, Al, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Mo, Cd, Sn, Sb, Ba, W, Tl, Pb, and U, in human serum. The serum samples were analyzed after diluting 1/25 with 0.5% nitric acid, 0.02% Triton-X-100, and 2% methanol. Sc, In, Y, Tb, and Bi were assigned internal standards to correct the baseline drift and matrix interference. The kinetic energy discrimination mode of the instrument with helium gas as the collision gas eliminated polyatomic interference. All 23 elements exhibited excellent linearity in their testing range, with a coefficient of determination ≥ 0.9996. The limits of detection of the 23 elements were within the range of 0.0004–0.2232 µg/L. The intra- and inter-day precision (relative standard deviation) were < 12.19%. The recoveries of the spiked standard for all elements were 88.98–109.86%. Among the 23 elements of the serum reference materials, the measured results of Mg, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Se were within the specified range of the certificate, and the results of the other elements were also satisfactory. The developed method was simple, rapid, and effective, and only 60 μL sample was consumed. A total of 1000 serum samples from healthy individuals were randomly selected from the Henan Rural Cohort, which reflects the status of serum elements in rural adults from the Northern Henan province of central China. A four-year-old boy developed recurrent fever and severe pneumonia in April, 2022. High-throughput sequencing revealed a reassortant avian influenza A-H3N8 virus (A/Henan/ZMD-22-2/2022(H3N8) with avian-origin HA and NA genes. The six internal genes were acquired from Eurasian lineage H9N2 viruses. Molecular substitutions analysis revealed the haemagglutin retained avian-like receptor binding specificity but that PB2 genes possessed sequence changes (E627K) associated with increased virulence and transmissibility in mammalian animal models. The patient developed respiratory failure, liver, renal, coagulation dysfunction and sepsis. Endotracheal intubation and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation were administered. H3N8 RNA was detected from nasopharyngeal swab of a dog, anal swab of a cat, and environmental samples collected in the patient's house. The full-length HA sequences from the dog and cat were identical to the sequence from the patient. No influenza-like illness was developed and no H3N8 RNA was identified in family members. Serological testing revealed neutralizing antibody response against ZMD-22-2 virus in the patient and three family members. Our results suggest that a triple reassortant H3N8 caused severe human disease. There is some evidence of mammalian adaptation, possible via an intermediary mammalian species, but no evidence of person-to-person transmission. The potential threat from avian influenza viruses warrants continuous evaluation and mitigation. The H3N8 influenza virus is known to circulate in wild birds but cross-species transmission to mammalian hosts was also reported. Few studies have investigated agricultural carbon emissions peaks, especially from the financial development perspective. This study focuses on the effects of financial scale and efficiency to achieve an agricultural carbon emissions peak in China's Henan Province. Using an extended STIRPAT model and scenario analysis, we find: (1) with the inverted U-shaped influence mechanism of rural financial scale and incorporating rural financial efficiency, agricultural carbon emissions in Henan will peak at 14.17 million tons in 2040, 12.50 million tons in 2034, and 11.73 million tons in 2023 under the baseline low-carbon, moderately accelerated low-carbon, and stringent low-carbon development scenarios; (2) without financial efficiency improvements, carbon emissions will peak five years, three years, and six years later, and the peak value will increase 0.97 million tons, 0.65 million tons, and 0.30 million tons. Therefore, agricultural carbon emissions will peak earlier with continuous and strong financial policy adjustment to facilitate financial development. We also find that agricultural carbon absorption exceeds emissions, achieving carbon neutrality. The policy implication is that financial development matters to sustainable agricultural development. The Xiaolangdi Basin of the Yellow River, located between Mengjin County and Jiyuan City in Henan Province, is composed of a reservoir, a barrage dam, flood discharge buildings, and a water diversion and power generation system, among which, the Xiaolangdi project is the only control project in the lower reaches of the Yellow River that has a large storage capacity. In this study, distributed scatterers InSAR (DS-InSAR) deformation analysis was used to process 27 images of ESA Sentinel-1A data for the period between September 10, 2018, and July 19, 2019. Using the generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) to select the statistical homogeneous pixels (SHP) and the eigenvalue decomposition method to optimize the interference phase, the time series surface deformation of the study area was obtained. The results showed that the maximum deformation rate in the study area was − 40.71 mm/year, the maximum deformation rate of the Xiaolangdi project was − 10.09 mm/year, and the larger deformation rates in the area around the Xiaolangdi Reservoir were mostly within the range − 35 to − 20 mm/year. Furthermore, small baseline subset (SBAS) InSAR and DS-InSAR are used for verification and analysis, and the monitoring results have high consistency. The Gram-negative rod-shaped bacterium Serratia marcescens is an opportunistic pathogen of many organisms, including insects. We report the identification and optimal in vitro chitinase production conditions of a novel chitinolytic S. marcescens strain TC-1 isolated from a naturally infected white grub (Anomala corpulenta) collected from a peanut field at Nanyang city, Henan province, China. Strain identification was conducted by morphological, physiological, biochemical and molecular analyses. The amplified 16S rRNA gene of TC-1 showed a similarity greater than 99% with multiple strains of S. marcescens. Based on Neighbor-joining phylogenetic tree analysis of bacterial 16S rRNA gene sequences, TC-1 formed a clade with S. marcescens, clearly separated from other Serratia spp. The strain TC-1 showed larvicidal activities against five insect species (A. corpulenta, Plutella xylostella, Spodoptera exigua, Helicoverpa armigera, Bombyx mori) and the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, but not against S. litura. The operating parameters of chitinase production by TC-1 were optimized by response surface methodology using a three-factor, three-level Box-Behnken experimental design. The effects of three independent variables i.e. colloidal chitin concentration (7–13 g l−1), incubation time (24–72 h) and incubation temperature (24–32 °C) on chitinase production by TC-1 were investigated. A regression model was proposed to correlate the independent variables for an optimal chitinase activity predicted as 20.946 U ml−1, using a combination of colloidal chitin concentration, incubation time and incubation temperature of 9.06 g l−1, 63.83 h and 28.12 °C, respectively. The latter agreed well with a mean chitinase activity of 20.761 ± 0.102 U ml−1 measured in the culture supernatants of TC-1 grown under similar conditions with a colloidal chitin concentration, incubation time and incubation temperature of 9 g l−1, 64 h and 28 °C, respectively. Our study revealed the S. marcescens strain TC-1 with potential as a biocontrol agent of insect pests and nematodes and demonstrated the proposed regression model's potential to guide chitinase production by this strain. In this study, we use the moisture budget equation and the three-pattern decomposition of global atmospheric circulation to analyze the extreme precipitation in Henan Province that occurred from 17 to 22 July 2021. The results obtained from the moisture budget equation show that the dynamic and thermodynamic terms can explain 75% and 22% of the anomalous precipitation, respectively, while the residual term only explains 3%. Changes in divergence (advection) are the main contributor to the dynamic (thermodynamic) term, which can explain 80% (22%) of the anomalous precipitation. Further analysis based on the novel moisture budget equation shows that the contributions of the horizontal, meridional, and zonal circulations to the anomalous precipitation caused by the dynamic term induced by divergence and thermodynamic term induced by advection are 13%, 13%, and 76%, respectively, suggesting the dominant role of zonal circulation in causing this anomalous precipitation. Industrial park is an area where energy consumption and pollutant emissions are concentrated, and energy infrastructure (power plants and industrial boilers) is the main consumers of energy. Facing the great pressure of climate change, it is essential to reduce pollutant emissions from energy infrastructure. In this work, taking the energy infrastructure (power plants and industrial boilers) of the national industrial parks in Henan Province as the research object, we have established energy-related CO2 emission inventory and air pollutants (SO2, NOx, PM10, PM2.5, VOCs, CO, and NH3) emission inventories. Besides, this study also designed five scenarios with 2030 as the target year, including baseline scenario (BAU), energy structure adjustment scenario (ESA), energy efficiency improvement scenario (EEI), waste heat recovery scenario (WHR), and best available end technology scenario (BAT) to explore the potential for emissions reduction. The results show that by comparing the emission reduction benefits of the four emission reduction scenarios in 2030, the BAT scenario has the greatest effect on reducing SO2, PM10, PM2.5, and NOx (reduction rate ranges from 47 to 81%). In 2030, the emission reduction potential of EEI, ESA, and WHR for pollutants (except for NH3) is 25–35%, 5–21%, and 1–4%, respectively. For the parks containing power plants, not only the best end-of-pipe technology and clean energy must be used, but also the application of energy-saving technologies. For parks containing only industrial boilers, we should use the best end-of-pipe technology and increase the proportion of clean energy. Industrial parks contribute greatly to China's economic development while emitting huge air pollutants. It is necessary to study the characteristics of air pollutant emissions in industrial parks. In this study, emission inventories for 11 industrial parks were established. Meanwhile, the source emission and spatial distribution characteristics of the industrial park were analyzed. The cluster analysis was used to classify these parks into "4Hs", "Mixed" and "4Ls" parks. "4Hs", "Mixed" and "4Ls" represent that the levels of energy intensity, economic proportion of energy-intensive industries, coal proportion and pollution performance value are high, medium and low in turn. Then three emission reduction measures were set up to estimate the emission reduction potential and environmental impacts. The results show that: (1) the emissions of SO2, NOx, CO, PM10, PM2.5, VOCs and NH3 of 11 industrial parks in 2017 were 11.2, 23.1, 30.8, 8.3, 3.5, 5.1, and 1.1 kt, respectively. (2) Power plants were the largest source of SO2 and NOx emissions, and industrial processes were the largest emission source of CO, PM10, PM2.5, VOCs and NH3. (3) "4Hs" parks with traditional energy-intensive industries as the leading industries should be the emphasis of air pollutant emission reduction. (4) Through the optimal emission reduction measures, SO2, NOx, PM10, PM2.5 and VOCs were reduced by 81, 46, 51, 46 and 77%, respectively. Environmental impact reductions include 1.6 kt SO2eq acidified gas emissions, 1.4 kt PO43−eq eutrophication substances, 4.2 kt PM10eq atmospheric particulate emissions, 7.0 kt 1,4-DCEeq human toxic substances, and 5.2 kt PM2.5 eq breathing Inorganic. This study is helpful to understand the characteristics of air pollutants emissions in industrial parks and promotes the proposal and implementation of air pollutant emissions reduction strategies. Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) may be a serious public health problem and have received widespread attention in recent years. This study has analyzed the factors leading to the occurrence of serious ADRs (SADRs), determined the factors affecting the prognosis of patients with severe adverse reactions at different levels of medical institutions, and finally made corresponding recommendations for the monitoring, prevention, and treatment of SADRs. We used descriptive analysis and chi-square test to analyze the year, age, gender, proportion of SADRs, and the results of the ADRs in the report. Use the logistic regression to analyze the factors affecting the prognosis of SADRs in different levels of medical institutions. A total of 387 642 people's 394 037 ADRs were collected from the Henan Provincial Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center from 2016 to 2020. Among them 35 742 cases of serious ADRs (9.1%), 96.1% were eventually relieved or cured, but 39 cases of SADRs caused death. The main causes of death included hemorrhages, organ failure, and allergies. Age, number of medication and illnesses, level of medical institution, history of adverse reactions, and type and method of medication were all factors that affected the severity of ADR. The prognosis of SADRs is worse than normal ADRs. The ADRs in autumn and winter and new adverse reactions are unique risk factors found in this study. The elderly and patients with multiple diseases or taking multiple drugs should pay attention to their adverse reactions. They should be closely observed within a week after taking the medicine. The supervision of patients with a history of allergies and new adverse reactions should be strengthened by primary medical institutions, and in nonprimary medical institutions should paid attention with past medical histories, and use imported drugs and biological agents with caution to ensure the safety and health of patients. Dengzhou City is the first ecological water recharge city after the commissioning of the South-North Water Diversion Project. A study on the ecological service value of Dengzhou City and its evolutionary characteristics can provide a theoretical basis for the water supply security of the Central Line Project and regional ecological environmental protection. Based on the ecosystem service value equivalent factor method, GIS, ENVI and GeoSOS-FLUS software were used to monetize the ecosystem service values of Dengzhou City in 2007, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2020; analyze the spatial and temporal change characteristics under its land use change conditions and predict the regional ecosystem service values of Dengzhou City in 2025. The results show that since the completion and commissioning of the South-North Water Transfer Central Project in 2014, the value of ecosystem services in Dengzhou City has rapidly increased from US$3.792 billion to US$4.612 billion, and in 2025, the value of ecosystem services in Dengzhou City is expected to reach US$4.8 billion. Based on the climate-driven yield index (CDYI) series of summer maize in 17 cities and the monthly series of large-scale atmospheric circulation indices (LACI), the responses of yield fluctuations of summer maize to atmospheric circulation anomalies during 1988–2017 were explored in Henan province, north China. The main findings were as follows: (1) with using principal component analysis, east, north, central, and west Henan were identified as four sub-regions with different CDYI variations; (2) with using ensemble empirical mode decomposition, the CDYI in east and north Henan presented a notable 6-year oscillation, while central and west Henan were dominated by a 3-year oscillation; (3) East Pacific/North Pacific Oscillation in January, Eastern Tropical Pacific SST in May, Tropical Southern Atlantic Index in June, and North Pacific in September were the optimal yield prediction signals in east, north, central, and west Henan, respectively; (4) the regression model with predictors as year and various LACI had the ideal forecasting results on actual regional maize yield, with the average relative error ranged from 4.94 to 9.20%. A thorough understanding of groundwater recharge source, particularly its rate, is usually a prerequisite for effective water resources management. In this paper, we report the impact of Yellow River water seepage from the North Henan Plain, using both hydrogeochemical and stable isotopic analysis data. Seven Yellow River water samples, 10 groundwater samples from a river-parallel transect, and 36 groundwater samples from four different perpendicular transects to the Yellow River in the western, middle, and eastern plain were collected and analyzed. It inferred that cation exchange of Ca and/or Mg for Na occurred in groundwaters because of the dissolution of carbonate rocks. The hydrogeochemical results indicate that western piedmont lateral groundwater and the Yellow River are both important sources of groundwater recharge for the western transect of the North Henan Plain, while the former is a greater recharge source for the middle transect, and the latter is a greater recharge source for the eastern transect. Stable isotope data support Yellow River water incursion into the groundwater. The approximate distance (based on chloride concentration) from the Yellow River to border of the impact zone is17.43-23.40 km in the western plain, 52.46 km in the middle plain, and 49.82 km in the eastern plain. Lead is a potentially harmful element that has caused serious environmental pollution during its mining and use along with serious human health problems. This study assessed lead in Chinese coals based on published literature, with a particular focus on data reported since 2004. The analysis included 9447 individual samples from 103 coalfields or mines in 28 provinces in China. The arithmetic mean content of lead in the studied coals was 15.0 μg/g. Considering the coal reserves, the weighted-average lead concentration in Chinese coals was calculated to be 19.6 μg/g. Lead was significantly enriched in the coals from Henan Province and enriched in the coals from the Tibet Autonomous Region. The coals from Tibet–Western Yunnan and the southern areas of China had elevated lead concentrations. Sulfides are the primary hosts of lead in Chinese coals, although other hosts include silicates, organic matter, carbonates, and other minerals. Source rocks in the sediment-source region and marine environments may be the most significant factors contributing to lead enrichment in Chinese coals. One RIL population derived from the cross between Dalibao and BYL8 was used to examine the phenotypes of kernel-related traits in four different environments. Six important kernel traits, kernel length (KL), kernel width (KW), kernel perimeter (KP), kernel area (KA), kernel length/width ratio (KLW), and thousand-kernel weight (TKW) were evaluated in Yangling, Shaanxi Province, China (2016 and 2017), Nanyang, Henan Province, China (2017) and Suqian, Jiangsu Province, China (2017). A genetic linkage map was constructed using 205 SSR markers, and a total of 21 significant QTLs for KL, KW, KP, KA, KLW and TKW were located on 10 of the 21 wheat chromosomes, including 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 2D, 3D, 4D, 5A, 5B, and 7D, with a single QTL in different environments explaining 3.495–30.130% of the phenotypic variation. There were four loci for KLW, five for KA, five for KL, three for KP, two for KW, and two for TKW among the detected QTLs. We used BSA + 660 K gene chip technology to reveal the positions of major novel QTLs for KLW. A total of 670 out of 5285 polymorphic SNPs were detected on chromosome 2A. The SNPs in 2A are most likely related to the major QTL, and there may be minor QTLs on 5B, 7A, 3A and 4B. SSR markers were developed to verify the chromosome region associated with KLW. A linkage map was constructed with 7 SSR markers, and a major effect QTL was identified within a 21.55 cM interval, corresponding to a physical interval of 10.8 Mb in the Chinese Spring RefSeq v1.0 sequence. The ancient Chinese Jun Porcelain has of typical high fired calcium silicate glaze. After observation of Jun porcelain shards excavated from Juntai Kiln in Yuzhou, Henan Province, China, two pieces with light greenish blue glaze and reddish purple glaze are selected for study as special corrosion samples buried in soil environment. Taking the corrosion of each phase of the overall glaze into consideration, the chemistry compositional and morphological structural features of the earthworm-walking patterns and their surrounding white area (corroded zone) in the glazes are compared and studied with optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM–EDS), Raman spectroscopy (Raman) and electron microprobe (EPMA): during the firing of Jun Porcelain, the dendritic and columnar crystals coming out of the glaze and mostly in surrounding corroded areas are identified as wollastonite (CaSiO3), which provides active sites for localized corrosion. The wollastonite crystalline phases have preferential corrosion initiated by pitting corrosion relative to glassy phase, leaving dendritic or columnar pits and craters to dissolve into calcium ions and silicic acid and losing into the burial environment. Some calcium ions in the surface pits react with dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) from the soil to form calcium carbonate (CaCO3) precipitated on the surface of the glazes. The cracks formed during the cooling process and the interconnected craters caused by crystals dissolution can provide channels to facilitate the progression of the corrosion. This research is of great significance to the study of the corrosion mechanism of ancient porcelain and the conservation of its cultural relics. It has changed the traditional view that porcelain is corrosion-resistant. The rapid development of the economy in China resulted in increasingly serious water pollution problem. A lot of water pollution treatment projects have been launched to improve the water environment quality. Water pollution treatment is a complex and long-term task. Considering the concept of water pollution with fuzziness and the factors affecting the effect of water pollution treatment (EWPT), this study constructs a multi-dimensional dynamic fuzzy comprehensive monitoring model. The model considers the vague boundaries in the representation of water pollution and various factors affecting the treatment effect, such as monitoring time, monitoring index, and monitoring location. In detail, firstly, existing methods for evaluating the EWPT are analyzed and reviewed. Then a multi-dimensional dynamic model is developed for monitoring the EWPT. Finally, the Yueya Lake of Henan Province in China is taken as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness and practicability of the proposed method. From the analysis of the results, to maintain the cleanliness of the water, efforts should still be made to eliminate and completely block the pollutants on the shore in order to fundamentally solve the problem. Economic density refers to the degree of labor, population, and tangible capital that concentrate in a physical space. It represents the efficiency of economic activities and intensity of land use in an area. This article presents an in-depth analysis spatial disparity of economic densities in Yellow River Basin in China by using 2000 and 2014 country level data. A composite index of economic density that integrates a suite of population, land, and production indicators through a grey-relation entropy model was applied for the spatial analysis in economic densities. The overall economic density levels in Henan Province and Shandong Province were higher than those of other provinces. Other major spatial agglomerations of counties with high economic density were in central parts of Inner Mongolia and Henan Province, the south of Shanxi Province, and the middle regions of Shaanxi Province. Finally, the indicators that might have influenced the level of economic density and the formation spatial economic disparity within Yellow River Basin were identified as the basic environmental conditions, transportation infrastructure, social and economic infrastructure, level and structure of industrialization level, and strategic policies for regional economic development. The results show that there is indeed spatial economic disparity in the studied region and that it may have been mainly affected by the geographically uneven distribution of per capita income and per capita land use intensity. Deployment of resistant soybean cultivars is the most effective and economical method of controlling Phytophthora root rot (PRR) incited by Phytophthora sojae, and characterization of Phytophthora resistance of the soybean cultivars greatly facilitates the effective utilization. The objective of this study was to characterize the resistance phenotype in 30 soybean cultivars/lines bred in Henan province and 4 ancestral cultivars which were inoculated with 26 P. sojae pathotypes. The 34 soybean cultivars/lines showed 34 different reaction types of resistance to 26 P. sojae pathotypes. The reaction types produced on the cultivars/lines were compared with those produced on the differential lines to postulate which Rps gene was present. The gene Rps 5 and Rps3a or gene combination Rps3a+ 5 were postulated to be present in Zhoudou17 and Zheng77249, respectively. The other 32 cultivars/lines exhibited novel reaction types that were different from known single or two Rps gene combinations. The cluster analysis of the reaction types revealed 10 groups among the 34 soybean cultivars/lines, 17 differentials and the cultivar Williams at the similarity coefficient 0.6540. This study indicated that Phytophthora resistance was extremely diverse in this region. The cultivars/lines with broad spectrum resistance could provide effective sources of resistance for the control of PRR in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Groundwater has been a major natural resource for human consumption in north China. It is necessary to appreciate the suitability of deep groundwater for drinking, agricultural irrigation, and industrial uses in this region. To this end, a total of 47 groundwater samples were collected from the study area; by comparing the concentrations of different hydrochemical variables with quality standard values, the variable fuzzy set (VFS) was applied to calculate the groundwater quality index (GQI) for various purposes, respectively. Afterward GQI spatial distribution maps were constructed using a geographic information system (GIS) tool to delineate spatial variations of groundwater quality. In this case study, the GQI spatial distribution maps reveal that the areas covered by 'Maximum Permissible' groundwater for varying purposes (drinking, irrigation, and industrial) is 1377.2; 2354.7; and 3854.8 km, respectively. The groundwater in the eastern part of the study area is suitable for drinking, with the southwestern region as the irrigation water source; the entire study area is acceptable for use in industrial, except the western part of Jiaozuo City. Therefore, the GQI spatial distribution maps can provide useful information for non-technical decision makers for better sustainable groundwater resources management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Surface greenness reflects the situation of vegetation cover. Vegetation index calculated from the Red and Near Infrared bands of remote sensing images, whose values indicate the level of photosynthetic activity, is monotonically related to surface greenness when vegetation canopy does not fully cover the background soil. Especially for desert regions, vegetation index is positively correlated with vegetation coverage. Therefore, vegetation index can be used to study the change in greenness of desert areas. This study collected MODIS Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data from 2000 to 2010 and analyzed their change over China in this period. The results showed that an increasing trend of NDVI occurred over 66.84% (OLS fitting) or 64.27% (LAD fitting) of China, indicating that China's greenness is increasing overall. Meanwhile, desertification of China decreased. Areas showing large increase in greenness are found in Shaanxi, Shanxi, Ningxia, Henan, Shandong, Qinghai, and Gansu while regions with large decrease in greenness are found in Northeast Inner Mongolia, South Tibet, Jiangsu, and Shanghai. Changes of Qinghai, Gansu, Xinjiang and South Tibet could probably be driven by climate factors. Decrease of greenness in Northeast Inner Mongolia was related to agricultural reclamation. Decrease of greenness in Jiangsu and Shanghai was related to rapid urbanization. Climate factors did not exhibit obvious correspondence to the large increase in greenness in Shaanxi, Shanxi, Ningxia and Gansu, indicating that the changes might have been caused by human factors.
