Philips Electronics NV could have its first electronic paper display in year 2004, according to the firm's head of research. The e-paper display will use electronic ink technology, but unlike the flexible display announced last week, this will be a glass display. The intention is to have an easily readable paper-like appearance with a wide viewing angle. Rick Harwig, CEO of Philips Research is confident the first monochrome electronic paper display, based on the firm's electronic ink on glass technology, will be introduced later this year. The firm has been working with U.S. developer E Ink for two years developing the active-matrix back-planes for color displays.
