A new donor-π-acceptor derived from phenothiazine, namely 2-(2-((10-hexyl-10H-phenothiazin-3-yl)methylene)-3-oxo-2,3-dihydroinden-1-ylidene) malononitrile (PTZON) was synthesized and fully characterized, and its potential as a fluorescent sensor for cyanide anion was investigated. The PTZON showed a visible absorption band at 564 nm corresponds to an intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) and an emission band at 589 nm in CH3CN/H2O. The results of cyanide anion titration revealed ratiometric changes in both absorption and fluorescence spectra as a result of the nucleophilic addition of cyanide anion via Michael addition. The optical studies, FT-IR spectra, NMR, high-resolution mass, and DFT calculations confirmed the sensing mechanism. The selectivity of PTZON as a cyanide anion fluorescent sensor was proved in mixed solvent solutions, and the sensitivity was as low as 0.011 µM, which is far lower than the value allowed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency for drinking water (1.9 µM). Also, the detection limit of PTZON was assessed to be 3.39 μM by the spectrophotometric method. The binding stoichiometry between PTZON and cyanide anion was found to be 1:1 as evidenced by mass spectra. Seven reactive dyes judiciously selected based on chemical structures and fixation mechanisms were applied at 2% owf of shade on amidoximated acrylic fabrics. Amidoximated acrylic fabric has been obtained by a viable amidoximation process. The dyeability of these fabrics was evaluated with respect to the dye exhaustion, fixation, and colour strength under different conditions of temperature and dyeing time. Nucleophilic addition type reactive dyes show higher colour data compared to nucleophilic substitution ones. FTIR studies further implicate the binding of reactive dyes on these fabrics. A tentative mechanism is proposed to rationalize the high fixation yield obtained using nucleophilic addition type reactive dyes. Also, the levelling and fastness properties were evaluated for all dyes used. Excellent to good fastness and levelling properties were obtained for all samples irrespective of the dye used. Pretreated wool/acrylic fibre was obtained by a facile amidoximation process. Fibre characterisation (nitrogen content, tensile strength, shrinkage, infrared spectra and X-ray diffraction) proved the success of the pretreatment. Union dyeing of wool/acrylic fabrics with acid and reactive dyes, namely CI Acid Red 40, CI Acid Blue 25, CI Reactive Red 194 and CI Reactive Blue 25, was obtained using a one-bath dyeing process. Different factors that may affect the dyeability of the blend fibre, such as dyebath pH, liquor ratio, temperature, time and dye concentration, were evaluated with respect to the dye exhaustion, fixation, colour strength, levelling and fastness properties. Excellent to good fastness was obtained for all samples, irrespective of the dye used. Textile coloration is a wet process that uses dyes, chemicals, and large volume of water. The chemical wet processing of textiles continues to expand each year using new technologies. The driving force being the need for cleaner, cost-effective, and value-added textile products. This review will provide a summary of recent developments in the coloration of textile fiber. Emphasis will be paid to the new technologies, in particular those based on physicochemical means such as nanotechnology, electrochemistry, supercritical carbon dioxide coloration, plasma, ultrasonic and microwave, and their uses in the coloration of textile fibers. The article presents information on a study which described the development of an alkaline dyeing of polyester with an alkali-stable disperse dye, Dianix Scarlet AD-RG, using sodium edetate as an alkaline buffering agent. A review of the related literature is presented. It presents the reagents and methods utilized including selected mono and bifunctional reactive dyes. A detailed discussion on the research findings is given.

Urea reduction or elimination in reactive dye print pastes is of ecological interest. Sodium edetate is presented as a complete substitution of urea in the conventional print paste of reactive dyes, namely CI Remazol Black B and Remazol Brilliant Orange 3R using a constant amount of sodium alginate as the thickening agent. Three different print pastes containing urea/NaHCO3, sodium edetate/NaHCO3 and sodium edetate were thoroughly investigated. Different factors that may affect the printability of cotton, such as the concentrations of sodium edetate, urea, dye, absence or presence of alkali and steaming time in the prints obtained were evaluated with respect to the dye fixation, colour strength, dye penetration, levelling and the fastness properties. Anionic dyeable acrylic fibre has been obtained by a viable and efficient pretreatment process using hydroxylamine hydrochloride in the presence of acetate salt. The chemical modification relies on an amidoximation reaction that partially converts cyano groups present in the fibre to amidoxime groups. Different factors that may affect the pretreatment process have been investigated. The pretreated fabrics were dyed with CI Acid Red 1 and CI Acid Green 16 and gave improved dyeability over untreated fabrics due to the ion-ion interactions between the sulphonic groups present in the dye molecules and the protonated amino groups present in the fibres. The treated dyed fabrics also showed excellent fastness properties. Reactive cationic agents, phenylmonochlorotriazinyl and epoxypropyl, are used for cotton pretreatment using a pad-dry-curing technique. The dyeability of cationised cotton fabrics using CI Acid Red 1, determined spectrophotometrically for the residual dyebath, has been dependent on the cationic agent concentration and the appropriate mixture used. Comparative sorption isotherms, rate of dyeing at different temperatures, standard affinity, entropy and heat of dyeing for three different pretreated fabrics have been calculated and discussed. The strong catalytic performance, eco-friendly reaction systems, and selectivity of enzyme-based biocatalysts are extremely interesting. Immobilization has been shown to be a good way to improve enzyme stability and recyclability. Chitosan-incorporated metal oxides, among other support matrices, are an intriguing class of support matrices for the immobilization of various enzymes. Herein, the cross-linked chitosan/zinc oxide nanocomposite (CS/ZnO) was synthesized and further improved by adding iron oxide (Fe2O3) nanoparticles. The final cross-linked CS/ZnO/Fe2O3 nanocomposite was used as an immobilized support for catalase and is characterized by SEM, EDS, and FTIR. The nanocomposite CS/ZnO/Fe2O3 enhanced the biocompatibility and immobilized system properties. CS/ZnO/Fe2O3 achieved a higher immobilization yield (84.32%) than CS/ZnO (37%). After 10 repeated cycles, the remaining immobilized catalase activity of CS/ZnO and CS/ZnO/Fe2O3 was 14% and 45%, respectively. After 60 days of storage at 4 °C, the remaining activity of immobilized enzyme onto CS/ZnO and CS/ZnO/Fe2O3 was found to be 32% and 47% of its initial activity. The optimum temperature was noticed to be broad at 25–30 °C for the immobilized enzyme and 25 °C for the free enzyme. Compared with the free enzyme optimum pH (7.0), the optimum pH for the immobilized enzyme was 7.5. The Km and Vmax values for the free and immobilized enzyme on CS/ZnO, and the immobilized enzyme on CS/ZnO/Fe2O3, were found to be 91.28, 225.17, and 221.59 mM, and 10.45, 15.87, and 19.92 µmole ml−1, respectively. Catalase immobilization on CS/ZnO and CS/ZnO/Fe2O3 offers better stability than free catalase due to the enzyme's half-life.
