The catalysis of direct thiomethylation of 1H-indole and tryptophan under the action of the formaldehyde—mercaptan reagent system in the presence of acids and bases, phosphorus oxide and the oxidative system I2/NaOH was studied. {2-[(2-Hydroxyethyl)sulfanylmethyl]indol-3-yl}acetic ester and hydrazide were synthesized for use in the directed synthesis of {2-[(2-hydroxyethyl)sulfanylmethyl]indol-3-yl}acetic acid–derived pyrazole. A procedure was developed for preparing block synthons by the reaction of 2,4-pentanedione, 1,2-ethanedithiol, and aromatic aldehydes in the presence of an organic catalyst (triethylamine, piperidine, diazabicycloundecene, morpholine) to construct heterocycles derived from bis(arylmethylsulfanyl diketones). Among the bis(sulfanyl diketones) prepared, the compounds containing p-methoxyphenyl and thienyl substituents in the methinesulfanyl moiety showed the highest fungicidal activity toward phytopathogenic fungi Bipolaris sorokiniana, Fusarium oxysporum, and Rhizoctonia solani. New metal-heterocycle S,S-complexes based on Cu(I) binary halides and a polydentate ligand, 1,2- bis(3,5-dimethyloxazol-4-ylmethylsulfanyl)ethane have been prepared. The obtained complexes have demonstrated high catalytic activity in aminomethylation of phenylacetylene with N,N,N',N'-tetramethylmethanediamine, bis(oxazolidin-3-yl)methane, or benzaldehyde-piperidine system. Catalytic aminomethylation of pyrrole and indole with N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylmethanediamine in the presence of 5 mol % of ZrOCl2·8H2O proceeds selectively at the positions 2, 5 of pyrrole and 1, 3 of indole. Carbazole under the same conditions affords 3-formyl-9-aminomethyl derivative. The reaction in the presence of 5 mol % of K2CO3 occurs as monoaminomethylation: for pyrrole at the position 2, for indole at the position 3, and for carbazole at the nitrogen atom of the substrate.
