Mixed martial arts' popularity has increased in recent years, alongside descriptive research and evidence-based performance recommendations. Guidelines for (both chronic and acute) weight making exist; however, how these translate in real-life scenarios and detailed investigations on practices in larger groups deserve attention. The present study examined the body mass (BM) and composition of 33 professional mixed martial arts athletes preparing for 80 fights. Athletes were supported by on-site dietitians, who encouraged evidence-based practices. Fasted BM was measured throughout the last ∼10 days before all bouts (acute weight management phase). A subset of athletes had body composition assessed before and after the chronic weight loss phase for 40 fights. Most athletes engaged in chronic BM loss, and all engaged in acute weight loss. Many lost fat-free mass (FFM) during the chronic phase, with rates of BM loss <0.5% best preserving FFM. Regardless of losses, the present athletes possessed greater FFM than other combat sport athletes and engaged in greater acute weight loss. Dehydration in the 24–48 hr before the weigh-in was not reflective of weight regain after the weigh-in, rather BM 7–10 days before the weigh-in was most reflective. These findings suggest that many mixed martial arts athletes could increase FFM at the time of competition by maintaining leaner physiques outside of competition and/or allowing increased time to reduce BM chronically. Acutely, athletes can utilize evidence-based protocols, eliminating carbohydrates, fiber, sodium, and finally fluid in a staged approach, before the weigh-in, reducing the amount of sweating required, thus theoretically better protecting health and preserving performance. It has been supposed that the interplay of elasticity and activity plays a key role in triggering the non-equilibrium behaviors in biological systems. However, the experimental model system is missing to investigate the spatiotemporally dynamical phenomena. Here, a model system of an active chain, where active eccentric-disks are linked by a spring, is designed to study the interplay of activity, elasticity, and friction. Individual active chain exhibits longitudinal and transverse motions; however, it starts to self-rotate when pinning one end and self-beat when clamping one end. In addition, our eccentric-disk model can qualitatively reproduce such behaviors and explain the unusual self-rotation of the first disk around its geometric center. Furthermore, the structure and dynamics of long chains were studied via simulations without steric interactions. It was found that a hairpin conformation emerges in free motion, while in the constrained motions, the rotational and beating frequencies scale with the flexure number (the ratio of self-propelling force to bending rigidity), χ, as ∼(χ)4/3. Scaling analysis suggests that it results from the balance between activity and energy dissipation. It is well-known that Resolution proofs can be efficiently simulated by Sherali–Adams (SA) proofs. We show, however, that any such simulation needs to exploit huge coefficients: Resolution cannot be efficiently simulated by SA when the coefficients are written in unary. We also show that Reversible Resolution (a variant of MaxSAT Resolution) cannot be efficiently simulated by Nullstellensatz (NS). These results have consequences for total NP search problems. First, we characterise the classes PPADS, PPAD, SOPL by unary-SA, unary-NS, and Reversible Resolution, respectively. Second, we show that, relative to an oracle, \({\text{ PLS}} \not\subseteq {\text{ PPP}}\) , \({\text{ SOPL}} \not\subseteq {\text{ PPA}}\) , and \({\text{ EOPL}} \not\subseteq {\text{ UEOPL}}\). There is no consensus among researchers regarding how phase transitions occur in antiferroelectric (AFE) epitaxial heterostructures, in particular, in heterostructures based on model AFE lead zirconate. The questions about the number of phase transitions in such films and by what mechanism they occur remain controversial. This paper presents a look at the phase transition scenario in two types of epitaxial heterostructures: PbZrO 3 /Ba[La–Sn]O 3 /MgO (001) thin films with thicknesses from 25 to 1000 nm and PbZrO 3 /SrRuO 3 /SrTiO 3 (001) thin film 100 nm thick using the diffuse x-ray scattering in the grazing incidence setup. We register the characteristic butterfly-shaped diffuse scattering (DS) intensity distribution in the H K pseudocubic planes, which corresponds to the anisotropic ferroelectric soft mode. No incommensurate soft mode was observed in the cuts of reciprocal space parallel to the film surface by diffuse scattering. We reproduce the shape of DS distribution at different temperatures by the model based on the dielectric stiffness and the electric polarization correlation tensor in the cubic approximation. Such modeling allows not only to characterize the DS parameters from the challengingly low signal-to-background data set, but also to extract experimentally the sensitivity of the materials with respect to inhomogeneous polarization. While the observed temperature evolution of DS is consistent with the dielectric measurements, the correlation between the DS and the phase transition sequence observed by superstructure reflections is yet to be understood better. Muon radiography, which relies on measuring the absorption and attenuation of muons as they pass through matters, offers a new imaging technique capable of revealing the internal structure of large objects. Recent technological advancement allows for the application or testing of muon radiography in various fields, including mining, civil engineering, security check, etc. This study investigates the factors that influence muon radiography, which is used in density inversion, through simulations and experiments. The materials considered for density inversion include water, standard rock, and iron. Our simulation studies show that the number of events detected and selected has an impact on the reconstruction results, and several factors, such as multiple Coulomb scattering processes, recording time, and spatial resolution, which influence the number of muons, must be taken into account when measuring the rock density. We design and conduct a laboratory scale experiment based on the simulation results. We filter the 220 h of recording signals through time coincidence and straight-line fitting to obtain the selected events. Our results reveal that the statistical error of muons survival ratio in recording time significantly impacts the inversion result and decreases the error can improve accuracy greatly. In the experiment, the deviation between the inversion mean value and the expected value can be reduced to 2.4%–2.9% for iron, 7% for water, and 1.5% for standard rock. Background: Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is used to prepare "sticky bone" by combining it with bone graft material. The present study investigated the ability of different bone grafts to absorb growth factors from the PRF and release them over time. Materials and Methods: Human blood was collected from 10 healthy volunteers for liquid PRF preparation. Bovine bone, allograft (mineralized and demineralized), and synthetic bone were each mixed with the PRF to prepare a sticky bone. All sticky bone samples were incubated for up to 4 days. The absorption and release pattern kinetics of two selective growth factors within the PRF--platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2)--were quantified with immunofluorescence staining and enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) testing. Results: All bone graft materials adsorbed the examined growth factors from the PRF. ß-TCP showed the highest adsorption levels, followed by the xenograft, and the allografts showed the lowest adsorption levels. Furthermore, PDGF showed a fast-release pattern from the grafts, whereas BMP-2 was released at a later stage. Similar to the adsorption pattern, the ß-TCP and xenograft were better able to sustain the release of the PRF growth factors from the graft than the allografts. The microstructure morphology, static magnetic properties, and electromagnetic absorption characteristics of nano FexCoNi alloy particles prepared by chemical liquid deposition with five different Fe content levels are investigated in this paper. The results show that spherical FexCoNi alloy particles with an average particle size of about 100–200 nm and a face-centered cubic crystal structure were obtained. All five samples exhibited soft magnetic behavior, with the saturation magnetization intensity showing an increasing-then-decreasing trend with increasing Fe content, peaking at 141.8 emu/g for Fe content x = 1.0. The dielectric constants (real and imaginary parts) of the prepared alloy particles exhibit significant differences with respect to the variation of Fe content, while the changes in the real and imaginary parts of the magnetic permeability show less pronounced effects with increasing Fe content. As the electromagnetic wave frequency increases, the real parts of the dielectric constants for all composites show minimal fluctuations, and the real parts of the magnetic permeability exhibit a decreasing trend. Moreover, the imaginary parts of the dielectric constants and magnetic permeability show an increasing followed by a decreasing trend as the frequency rises. The material with Fe content x = 1 demonstrated optimal dielectric loss performance and relatively excellent magnetic loss performance, with a sample thickness of 1.9 mm exhibiting the highest reflection loss (RLmax) of −24.2 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 4.48 GHz. Loop formation in complex environments is crucially important to many biological processes in life. In the present work, we adopt three-dimensional Langevin dynamics simulations to investigate passive and active polymer looping kinetics in crowded media featuring polymer–crowder attraction. We find polymers undergo a remarkable coil–globule–coil transition, highlighted by a marked change in the Flory scaling exponent of the gyration radius. Meanwhile, looping time as a function of the crowder's volume fraction demonstrates an apparent non-monotonic alteration. A small number of crowders induce a compact structure, which largely facilitates the looping process. While a large number of crowders heavily impede end-to-end diffusion, looping kinetics is greatly inhibited. For a self-propelled chain, we find that the attractive crowding triggers an unusual activity effect on looping kinetics. Once a globular state is formed, activity takes an effort to open the chain from the compact structure, leading to an unexpected activity-induced inhibition of looping. If the chain maintains a coil state, the dominant role of activity is to enhance diffusivity and, thus, speed up looping kinetics. The novel conformational change and looping kinetics of both passive and active polymers in the presence of attractive crowding highlight a rather distinct scenario that has no analogy in a repulsive crowding counterpart. Alkali metal dosing has nowadays been extensively used in angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) for the in situ surface electron doping of materials to provide access to the unoccupied states. This technique also gives rise to nontrivial physical phenomena, such as the appearance of quantum well states and effects due to alkali metal intercalation. Here, we uncovered a previously unobserved type of electronic behavior induced by alkali metal dosing. By employing ARPES to study the evolution of the electronic structure of the Ti2O3 thin film upon rubidium (Rb) dosing, we found that the electron chemical potential of the system remains unchanged throughout the process. Interestingly, a series of electron-like band dispersions first appear with Rb dosing. A further increase in the Rb dosage leads to the eventual disappearance of the electron-like bands and the emergence of a set of hole-like bands. Our finding enriches the phenomenology brought about by alkali metal surface dosing, suggesting a novel functionality of this popular surface doping technique. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Materials incorporating covalent adaptive networks (CAN), e.g., vitrimers, have received significant scientific attention due to their distinctive attributes of self-healing and stimuli-responsive properties. Different from direct crosslinked systems, bivalent and multivalent systems require a bond swap algorithm that respects detailed balance, considering the multiple equilibria in the system. Here, we propose a simple and robust algorithm to handle bond swap in multivalent and multi-species CAN systems. By including a bias term in the acceptance of Monte Carlo moves, we eliminate the imbalance from the bond swap site selection and multivalency effects, ensuring the detailed balance for all species in the system. Realization of planar tetracoordinate arrangements of nitrogen atoms is challenging because their preference for localized bonding (caused by its high electronegativity) makes them typically tricoordinate. This is especially true for the more electronegative oxygen atoms. Herein, we computationally designed two clusters NBe4H4− and OBe4H4; they contain a planar tetracoordinate nitrogen (ptN) and planar tetracoordinate oxygen (ptO) atom, respectively. Remarkably, the former is a dynamically stable global minimum, while the latter is not. The bonding analysis proves that planar tetracoordination in NBe4H4− favors over tricoordination because of the presence of multicenter delocalized bonds. In contrast, the planar tricoordination dominates due to its weak delocalized bonding ability of oxygen in the OBe4H4 cluster. Moreover, the 6σ/2π double aromaticity due to multicenter delocalized bonds allows the NBe4H4− cluster to obtain additional stability. Humpback leading-edge (LE) tubercles are applied to the cavitation control of hydrofoils, and the effect of LE tubercles on hydrofoil cavitation characteristics under different cavitation numbers (σ) is discussed. The results show that LE tubercles can promote hydrofoil initial cavitation, with cavitation appearing first in the groove. This is because the separation effect of LE tubercles induces flow from peak to trough, resulting in an accelerated flow rate and a local low-pressure area. The quasiperiodic properties of the cloud-cavitation stage are not improved, but LE tubercles considerably reduced hydrofoil cavitation, resulting in a cavitation volume reduction of roughly 16.5%–20.4% and maximum cavitation volume reduction of roughly 10.5%–21.8%. The flow field at the tubercle was analyzed, and it was found that vortex cavitation was induced by the spiral vortex. The pressure pulsation on the hydrofoil is highly related to the cavitating evolution. The dominant frequency of the pressure pulsation increases with the decrease of σ and is not affected by the LE tubercles. Finally, LE tubercles are observed to facilitate the transformation of laminar flow to turbulent flow, hence increasing wake disturbance and facilitating the disintegration of the wake vortex structure. The adult mammalian cardiomyocyte has a limited capacity for self-renewal, which leads to the irreversible heart dysfunction and poses a significant threat to myocardial infarction patients. In the past decades, research efforts have been predominantly concentrated on the cardiomyocyte proliferation and heart regeneration. However, the heart is a complex organ that comprises not only cardiomyocytes but also numerous noncardiomyocyte cells, all playing integral roles in maintaining cardiac function. In addition, cardiomyocytes are exposed to a dynamically changing physical environment that includes oxygen saturation and mechanical forces. Recently, a growing number of studies on myocardial microenvironment in cardiomyocyte proliferation and heart regeneration is ongoing. Objectives: To explore the value of preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) characterization of intracranial solitary fibrous tumors (ISFT) and to evaluate the effectiveness of preoperative MRI features in predicting pathological grading. Materials and methods: This retrospective analysis comprised the clinical and preoperative MRI characterization of 55 patients with ISFT in our hospital, including 27 grade II cases and 28 grade III cases confirmed by postoperative pathology. Variables included age, sex, tumor location, cross-midline status, signal characteristics of T1-weighted imaging (T1WI), T2-weighted imaging (T2WI), T2-fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (T2-FLAIR), and diffusion‑weighted imaging (DWI), peritumoral edema, intralesional hemorrhage, focal necrosis/cystic degeneration, tumor empty vessel, maximum tumor diameter, maximum, minimum, and average values of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADCmax, ADCmin, and ADCmean), tumors enhancement mode, meningeal tail sign, skull invasion, cerebral parenchymal invasion, and venous sinus involvement. The independent samples t test or Mann–Whitney U test was performed to compare continuous data between the two groups, and the Pearson chi-squared test or Fisher's exact test was used to compare categorical data. In addition, bivariate logistic regression was performed to construct a comprehensive model, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were generated to calculate the areas under the curve (AUCs), thereby determining the value of each parameter in the differential diagnosis of grades II and III ISFT. Results: The mean age at onset was similar between patients with grades II and III ISFT (46.77 ± 14.66 years and 45.82 ± 12.07 years, respectively). The proportions of men among patients with grades II and III ISFT were slightly higher than those of female patients (male/female: 1.25 [15/12] and 1.33 [16/12], respectively). There were significant differences between grades II and III ISFT in the T2-FLAIR and DWI signal characteristics, maximum, minimum, and average values of the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADCmax, ADCmin, and ADCmean), tumor location, and skull invasion (P = 0.001, P = 0.018, P = 0.000, P = 0.000, P = 0.000, P = 0.010, and P = 0.032, respectively). However, no significant differences were noted between grades II and III ISFT in age, sex, cross-midline status, T1WI and T2WI signal characteristics, peritumoral edema, intralesional hemorrhage, focal necrosis/cystic degeneration, tumor empty vessel shadow, enhancement mode, meningeal tail sign, maximum tumor diameter, brain parenchyma invasion, or venous sinus involvement (all P > 0.05). Moreover, binary logistic regression analysis showed that the model accuracy was 89.1% when ADCmin was included in the regression equation. Moreover, ROC curve analysis showed that the AUC of ADCmin was 0.805 (0.688, 0.922), sensitivity was 74.1%, specificity was 75.0%, and the cutoff value was 672 mm2/s. Conclusions: Grade III ISFT patients displayed more mixed T2-FLAIR signal characteristics and DWI signal characteristics than grade II patients, as shown by higher skull invasion and tumor mass collapse midline distribution and lower ADCmax, ADCmean, and ADCmin values. The ADCmin value was significant in the preoperative assignment of grades II and III ISFT, thereby contributing to enhanced accuracy in the imaging grading diagnosis of the disease. As one of the most important ecosystems, the water body is losing water during the rapid development of the city. To understand the impacts on water body change during the rapid urbanization period, this study combines data from the OpenStreetMap platform with Landsat 5/Thematic Mapper images to effectively and accurately identify small urban water bodies. The findings indicate that the trained U-net convolutional neural network (U-Net) water body extraction model and loss function combining Focal Loss and Dice Loss adopted in this study demonstrate high precision in identifying water bodies within the main urban area of Hangzhou, with an accuracy rate of 94.3%. Trends of decrease in water areas with a continuous increase in landscape fragmentation, particularly for the plain river network, were observed from 1985 to 2010, indicating a weaker connection between water bodies resulting from rapid urbanization. Large patches of water bodies, such as natural lakes and big rivers, located at divisions at the edge of the city are susceptible to disappearing during the rapid outward expansion. However, due to the limitations and strict control of development, water bodies, referring to as wetland, slender canals, and plain river networks, in the traditional center division of the city, are preserved well. Combined with the random forest classification method and the U-Net water body extraction model, land use changes from 1985 to 2010 are calculated. Reclamation along the Qiantang River accounts for the largest conversion area between water bodies and cultivated land, constituting more than 90% of the total land use change area, followed by the conversion of water bodies into construction land, particularly in the northeast of Xixi Wetland. The "Qixiadaxiangshui" pear (Pyrus bretschneideri Rehd.1) is a highly valued cultivar known for its crisp texture, abundant juice, and rich aroma. In this study, we reported the first complete chloroplast genome sequence of the "Qixiadaxiangshui" pear, which is 159,885 bp in length with a GC content of 36.58%. The genome exhibits a typical circular quadripartite structure, comprising a large single-copy region (LSC), a small single-copy region (SSC), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs). A total of 131 genes were identified, including 84 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes. We also identified 209 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) and several mutation hotspots, such as ndhC-trnM-CAU and trnR-UCU-atpA, which can be applied in molecular identification and phylogenetic studies of Pyrus. Comparative genomic analysis showed high conservation among ten pear cultivars. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the "Qixiadaxiangshui" pear is closely related to germplasm Dangshansuli, Wonwhang, and Yali, suggesting a recent common ancestor. These findings provided valuable insights into the genetic diversity and evolutionary dynamics of the Pyrus species and contribute to the conservation and breeding of pear germplasm resources. Dexterous robotics systems integrate advanced manipulation and perception capabilities, facilitating advanced process automation. However, the inherent complexities of such processes may induce vulnerabilities, impeding overall performance. A parsimonious categorisation of dexterous robotic processes can disambiguate process attributes and highlight intricacies. Existing robotic categorisations focusing on a single attribute (e.g. manipulator structure) lack a processes view. Existing production process categorisations lack valuation of robotic characteristics. The current work suggests Rαβγ, a holistic categorisation of dexterous robotic processes. Rαβγ integrates robotic concepts within the classical [α|β|γ] production process categorisation and is similarly divided into tiers: Workcell, Task, and Objective. Each tier is defined by qualitative descriptors and quantitative characteristics. The intricacies of each characteristic were quantified by an analytic hierarchical process (AHP), semi-structured interviews with robotic experts were conducted for validation, and utility is demonstrated by three case studies. The AHP results are consistent and interpretable. The interviewees determined that Rαβγ is valuable and comprehensive. The case studies demonstrate the categorisation's ability to highlight major process attributes. The analysis asserts that Rαβγ can be valuable during different product life cycle phases, e.g. designing, commissioning, etc. Rαβγ uniquely integrates the manufacturing and robotic domains, offering a holistic mechanism for highlighting characteristics of dexterous robotic processes. Indium tin oxide (ITO) film, which is the most commonly used transparent conductive film (TCF), has traditionally been believed to be transparent in the visible spectrum but to reflect infrared (IR) light beyond the plasma wavelength (λp). However, our theoretical analysis challenges this notion by demonstrating that an ultrathin ITO TCF that is thinner than the light's penetration depth can overcome the transmission barrier at λp. To validate the theoretical modeling, we have successfully fabricated ultrathin ITO films that, despite having λp ≈ 1 μm, remain transparent from 400 nm to 20 μm. This represents the broadest transparency range ever reported for any In2O3-based TCF. The 10-nm-thick ITO TCFs have high visible transmittance (91.0% at 550 nm), low resistivity (5 × 10−4 Ω cm), and good IR transmittance (averaging 60% over 1.35–18.35 μm). Their IR transparency facilitates radiative cooling of the underlying circuitry. When an operational resistor is enclosed by commercial ITO TCFs that are 140 nm thick, its temperature increases. However, using 10-nm-thick ITO TCFs instead of the commercial ones can completely avoid this temperature rise. Moreover, attaching a silver grid to a 10-nm-thick ITO TCF can reduce the effective sheet resistance to ∼10 Ω/□ at the expense of only ∼3% transmittance. The formation of angulon, stemming from the rotor (molecule or impurity), rotating in the quantum many-body field, adds a new member to the quasi-particles' family and has aroused intense interest in multiple research fields. However, the analysis of the coupling strength between the rotor and its hosting environment remains a challenging task, both in theory and experiment. Here, we develop the all-coupling theory of the angulon by introducing a unitary transformation, where the renormalization of the rotational constants for different molecules in the helium nanodroplets is reproduced, getting excellent agreement with the experimental data collected during the past decades. Moreover, the strength of molecule-helium coupling and the effective radius of the solvation shell co-rotating along with the molecular rotor could be estimated qualitatively. This model not only provides significant enlightenment for analyzing the rotational spectroscopy of molecules in the phononic environment, but also provides a new method to study the transfer of the phonon angular momentum in the angulon frame. We consider a low-carbon tourism supply chain (LTSC) network composed of two low-carbon scenic spots (LSSs) and two travel agencies (TAs). The LSSs as leaders and the TAs as followers play Stackelberg games in the vertical direction. Meanwhile, the competing LSSs play Nash game to determine emission reduction efforts and ticket prices, and the competing TAs play Nash game to conduct retail prices. We establish four kinds of differential game models with different LTSC network structures, derive the equilibrium decision-makings of the LSSs and TAs, and explore the influences of competition or cooperation at vertical and horizontal level of the LTSC network members on the equilibrium solutions of the LSSs and TAs, low-carbon level of tourism products and performance of the LTSC network. Then, we find that the low-carbon preference of tourists improves the low-carbon level of tourism products, while the competition intensity between the LSSs leads to the decrease of the low-carbon level of tourism products. In addition, the results indicate that horizontal or vertical cooperations among the LTSC network members are not always conducive to the performance of the whole LTSC network. Only when the sensitivity of tourist demand to retail price meets certain conditions, these cooperations can develop tourism products with higher low-carbon level and bring higher revenues. The study explores the Fano-type interference effect in a microstrip photonic crystal (PC) heterostructure integrated with a varactor-loaded split ring resonator (SRR), both experimentally and numerically. This effect capitalizes on the PC heterostructure's ability to provide a broad continuous spectrum, while the embedded SRR offers a narrow discrete pathway. Through coherent interference between these elements, a sharp asymmetric Fano-type transmission spectrum emerges, accompanied by a notable group delay. Furthermore, the composite configuration exhibits an electric field enhancement at the Fano resonant frequency, enhancing the nonlinear sensitivity of the transmission spectrum. The nonlinear tunability of the Fano resonance is demonstrated by applying distinct input powers, allowing for the realization of a high-performance bistable electromagnetic switch and diode in the microwave regime. The proposed configuration exhibits key features such as significant transmission contrast, low threshold intensity, and relatively high transmission amplitude, all within a compact device volume, thanks to the Fano resonant mechanism in the PC heterostructure. This design paves the way for the implementation of active metamaterials-assisted components in micro- or nano-photonic circuits, with potential applications in advanced optical devices. Developing dyes with high open-circuit photovoltage (Voc) is a vital strategy to improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of co-sensitized solar cells (co-DSSCs). Herein, three organic fluorine-containing dyes [YY-ThP(3F), YY-ThP(2F), and YY-ThP(26F)] are designed and synthesized for investigating the fluorine-induced effect on photophysical and photovoltaic performances. Consequently, this effect can significantly broaden the UV–vis absorption spectra of dyes but fail to improve the light-harvesting capability of DSSCs. Strikingly, YY-ThP(3F), featuring 3-position fluorine substitution to cyanoacrylic acid, yields a relatively high Voc compared to the corresponding fluorine-free dye (YY-ThP). Furthermore, the co-sensitization of YY-ThP+YY-ThP(3F) achieves a remarkably high PCE and long-term stability. Randomly organizing hyperuniform fluid induced by reciprocal activation is a non-equilibrium fluid with vanishing density fluctuations at large length scales such as crystals. Here, we extend this new state of matter to a closed manifold, namely a spherical surface. We find that the random organization on a spherical surface behaves similar to that in two dimensional Euclidean space, and the absorbing transition on a sphere also belongs to the conserved directed percolation universality class. Moreover, the reciprocal activation can also induce a non-equilibrium hyperuniform fluid on a sphere. The spherical structure factor at the absorbing transition and the non-equilibrium hyperuniform fluid phases are scaled as S(l → 0) ∼ (l/R)0.45 and S(l → 0) ∼ l(l + 1)/R2, respectively, which are both hyperuniform according to the definition of hyperuniformity on a sphere with l, the wave number, and R, the radius of the spherical surface. We also consider the impact of inertia in realistic hyperuniform fluids, and it is found only by adding an extra length-scale, above which hyperuniform scaling appears. The ability to control the optical properties of a material with an electric field has led to optical memory devices, communication systems, optical signal processing, or quantum cryptography. Understanding electro-optic effects, especially in thin films, would improve the efficiency of these applications. In particular, the influence of epitaxial strains is of prime importance. In addition, the active control of these effects would be of great interest to tailor the material to the desired performance. Here, we demonstrate through first-principle calculations that the linear electro-optic response (Pockels effect) of two silicon-compatible ferroelectrics is stable with respect to bi-axial strain and that the electro-optic response can be strongly enhanced through the electrical control of the polarization. We attribute the former to the lack of optical phonon softening and a weak elasto-optic response and the latter to the externally induced softening of a phonon of symmetry A 1. Our results are readily applicable to other polar materials and show that the electro-optic effect can be efficiently engineered to meet the performance criteria of future technologies. Probiotics have garnered increasing attention as a potential therapeutic approach for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Previous studies have confirmed that Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis MN-Gup (MN-Gup) could stimulate the secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in NCI-H716 cells, but whether MN-Gup has a hypoglycemic effect on T2DM in vivo remains unclear. In this study, a T2DM mouse model was constructed, with a high-fat diet and streptozotocin in mice, to investigate the effect of MN-Gup on diabetes. Then, different doses of MN-Gup (2 × 109 CFU/kg, 1 × 1010 CFU/kg) were gavaged for 6 weeks to investigate the effect of MN-Gup on glucose metabolism and its potential mechanisms. The results showed that a high-dose of MN-Gup significantly reduced the fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels and homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) of T2DM mice compared to the other groups. In addition, there were significant increases in the short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), especially acetate, and GLP-1 levels in the MN-Gup group. MN-Gup increased the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium and decreased the number of Escherichia-Shigella and Staphylococcus. Moreover, the correlation analysis revealed that Bifidobacterium demonstrated a significant positive correlation with GLP-1 and a negative correlation with the incremental AUC. In summary, this study demonstrates that Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis MN-Gup has significant hypoglycemic effects in T2DM mice and can modulate the gut microbiota, promoting the secretion of SCFAs and GLP-1. An infantile hemangioma is a congenital benign tumor formed by the proliferation of vascular cells during the embryonic stage. It is more common in the skin but can also occur in the mucous membranes, liver, brain and muscle. Hepatic hemangioma appears to be a benign tumor; however, it may lead to poor outcomes because of severe complications, such as high-output cardiac failure. The main treatment of hepatic hemangioma in infants is oral drugs, such as propranolol and glucocorticoids, but the clinical response is not always satisfactory. We describe a rare case of a 2-month-old boy who presented with infantile cutaneous and hepatic hemangiomas. By using dermoscopy and observations of the abdominal color Doppler ultrasound, after 9 months of oral treatment with itraconazole solution, the infantile cutaneous hemangioma complicated with hepatic hemangioma was eventually cured. There was no liver or kidney function damage during the whole treatment period. Harmful algal blooms (HABs) pose a global threat to the biodiversity and stability of local aquatic ecosystems. Rapid and accurate classification of microalgae and cyanobacteria in water is increasingly desired for monitoring complex water environments. In this paper, we propose a pulse feature-enhanced classification (PFEC) method as a potential solution. Equipped with a rapid measurement prototype that simultaneously detects polarized light scattering and fluorescence signals of individual particles, PFEC allows for the extraction of 38 pulse features to improve the classification accuracy of microalgae, cyanobacteria, and other suspended particulate matter (SPM) to 89.03%. Compared with microscopic observation, PFEC reveals three phyla proportions in aquaculture samples with an average error of less than 14%. In this paper, PFEC is found to be more accurate than the pulse-average classification method, which is interpreted as pulse features carrying more detailed information about particles. The high consistency of the dominant and common species between PFEC and microscopy in all field samples also demonstrates the flexibility and robustness of the former. Moreover, the high Pearson correlation coefficient accounting for 0.958 between the cyanobacterial proportion obtained by PFEC and the cyanobacterial density given by microscopy implies that PFEC serves as a promising early warning tool for cyanobacterial blooms. Radish (Raphanus sativus L.) is a globally significant vegetable and relies on cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) lines for hybrid seed production. The NWB CMS type is favored over Ogura CMS for its ease in maintainer screening. Despite its varied mitochondrial configurations and unvalidated sterile gene, we re-sequenced the mitochondrial genome of NWB CMS Tibet A and verified the function of the sterility gene via genetic transformation of Arabidopsis thaliana. The mitochondrial genomes of Tibet A could be assembled into circular DNA molecules, with a mitochondrial genome size of 239,184 bp. Our analysis indicated that the specific orf463a was the CMS-associated gene in Tibet A, sharing sequence consistency with the CMS gene in DCGMS and NWB CMS YB-A. Collinearity analysis showed that the mitochondrial genomes of NWB CMS Tibet A, DCGMS, and NWB CMS YB-A share the same mitotype, with structural variations due to recombination via a 9731 bp long repeat sequence and a 508 bp short repeat sequence. Driven by the Ap3 promoter, transgenic Arabidopsis with orf463a exhibited male sterility, confirming the gene's potential role in CMS. Risky‐prescribing is the excessive or inappropriate prescription of drugs that singly or in combination pose significant risks of adverse health outcomes. In the United States, prescribing of opioids and other "risky" drugs is a national public health concern. We use a novel data framework—a directed network connecting physicians who encounter the same patients in a sequence of visits—to investigate if risky‐prescribing diffuses across physicians through a process of peer‐influence. Using a shared‐patient network of 10 661 Ohio‐based physicians constructed from Medicare claims data over 2014‐2015, we extract information on the order in which patients encountered physicians to derive a directed patient‐sharing network. This enables the novel decomposition of peer‐effects of a medical practice such as risky‐prescribing into directional (outbound and inbound) and bidirectional (mutual) relationship components. Using this framework, we develop models of peer‐effects for contagion in risky‐prescribing behavior as well as spillover effects. The latter is measured in terms of adverse health events suspected to be related to risky‐prescribing in patients of peer‐physicians. Estimated peer‐effects were strongest when the patient‐sharing relationship was mutual as opposed to directional. Using simulations we confirmed that our modeling and estimation strategies allows simultaneous estimation of each type of peer‐effect (mutual and directional) with accuracy and precision. We also show that failing to account for these distinct mechanisms (a form of model mis‐specification) produces misleading results, demonstrating the importance of retaining directional information in the construction of physician shared‐patient networks. Inspired by the significant catalytic charring effect of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), Cu‐MOF decorated ammonium polyphosphate (APP@Cu‐MOF) was prepared by coupling agents to improve the fire safety of epoxy resin (EP). After adding 9 wt% APP@Cu‐MOF, the fire performance of EP is significantly improved with limiting oxide index (LOI) value of 29.4 and UL‐94 V‐0 rating. The peak heat release rate (PHRR), total smoke production (TSP), CO production, and CO2 production of EP composite samples decreased by 34.6%, 54.7%, 24.6% and 30.0%, respectively. It is proposed that the synergistic effect among Cu‐MOF and APP promoted the char formation of EP. The dense carbon layers formed a barrier that prevented the transfer of heat and inhibited the release of toxic gases, thus acting as a flame retardant. In this study, the effect of alkaline-earth metal element doping on the photoelectric properties of intrinsic MoSe2 is systematically investigated based on the first-principles approach, and it is believed that the findings of this work will give some theoretical guidance for future research on MoSe2 doping modification. The results show that all the doping systems exhibit good stability, and Be atom doping has the lowest formation energy value, making the doping easier to produce. The doping of alkaline-earth metal elements resulted in some lattice distortion of MoSe2. Intrinsic MoSe2 is a semiconductor with a direct bandgap of 1.498 eV, and the doping of alkaline-earth metal elements causes the bandgap value to decrease in each system, and the bandgap is the smallest when Be is doped. All doped systems exhibit P-type conducting properties. Compared with the intrinsic MoSe2, all doped systems have their conduction band fraction moved to the low-energy direction overall, and new density of states peaks appear near the Fermi energy level. These state density peaks mainly originate from the results contributed by the s-orbitals of each doping system Mo-4d, Se-4p, and each dopant atom. The analysis of the work function reveals that the work function of each doped system is smaller than the intrinsic MoSe2, then the energy required for the occurrence of electron leaps is reduced, which improves the electron mobility of the doped system. The Mulliken Population analysis shows that stable chemical bonds are formed between the doped alkaline-earth metal elements and the surrounding Se atoms. The examination of the optical characteristics demonstrated that, in comparison to the intrinsic MoSe2, all doped systems' greatest dielectric absorption peaks were attenuated and moved toward the low-energy region; the doping of alkaline-earth metal elements broadened the light absorption edge of the intrinsic MoSe2. The absorption peaks of each doping system are shifted toward the low-energy region with the red-shift phenomenon, and the light absorption is good in the ultraviolet region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sequential Recommendation systems play a crucial role in predicting users' preferences based on their behavioral history. However, the existing methods ignore the extrapolation nature of sequences and do not make deep use of item provider information. This oversight limits the model's ability to fully utilize relevant external properties. To alleviate these limitations, we design a recommendation model that incorporates Position encoding and external reinforcement (Item -Provider), named DPSRec. Specifically, we design an Embed Encoding layer, in order to distinguish the Position Embedding of previous sequence models, we combine the time variability with the position encoding with extrapolation property, and encode the item and item provider sequences accordingly. Meanwhile, to avoid the noise that the initial item embeddings might cause with Position Encoding, we calculate the position Encoding separately from the item embedding. In addition, we design a Cross Propagation layer to capture implicit higher-order dependencies between item sequences. Extensive experiments on three real-world datasets demonstrate that the proposed model generally outperforms the baselines by about 1–12.5%. Epidemiological evidence regarding the relationship between coffee and tea consumption and the risk of ovarian cancer (OC) is inconsistent. Therefore, we aimed to quantitatively investigate this topic in a large prospective cohort study. This cohort study included 24,715 individuals recruited from the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trials between 1993 and 2001. The data used for our analysis included the latest follow‐up information collected up to 2015. Coffee intake of ≥4 cups/day (hazard ratio [HR], 0.586; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.356–0.966) or caffeine intake of 458.787 mg/day (HR, 0.607; 95% CI: 0.411–0.895) were associated with the lowest HR of incident OC in the fully adjusted model. Participants who consumed varying amounts of tea did not exhibit a statistically significant reduction in the risk of OC. Our findings suggest that a higher consumption of coffee or caffeine is associated with a reduced risk of OC. The catalytic properties of Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3-δ (BSCF) toward the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) are constrained by severe Sr segregation from the BSCF lattice. Herein, we address this problem by loading CeO2 nanoparticles on the BSCF surface. Compared with pristine BSCF, the obtained hybrid catalyst (BSCF@CeO2-10) with strong compressive stress shows greatly improved catalytic activity and stability toward both the OER and MOR. Furthermore, we deduce that the OER process on the BSCF@CeO2-10 surface follows synergistic catalytic mechanism combining the adsorption evolution and lattice oxygen oxidation mechanisms. The greatly improved MOR catalytic activity of BSCF@CeO2-10 can be ascribed to the deposition of CeO2 facilitating the adsorption of methanol and reducing the overall energy barrier of the rate-determining step during *OCH2 into *OCH. To overcome the bottleneck of low energy density in graphene-based supercapacitors and endow them with advanced properties such as ultralong life cycles, a key rational strategy is to couple graphene sheets with multielectron, redox-reversible, and structurally stable organic compounds. This work demonstrates the synthesis and characterization of hybridizing redox-active covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with nickel bis(dithiolene) units and graphene via covalent linkages to form heterostructures for high-performance supercapacitors. Efficient electron transfer between COFs and rGO is observed which results from the orderly assembled Ni-bis(dithiolene) units with unique electronic structure, as well as the unique design of COF/rGO morphology. The obtained Ni-TAP/rGO and Ni-TAPP/rGO heterojunctions display a gravimetric capacitance of 346.0 F g−1 and 367.5 F g−1 at a current loading of 0.5 A g−1, volumetric/gravimetric specific energy densities up to 48.1 W h kg−1 and 51.04 W h kg−1, and power densities up to 1.81 kW kg−1 and 1.78 kW kg−1, as well as exceptional rate capability and cycling stability (capacitance retention of 97.01% after 10 000 cycles). Microfluidic chips hold vast potential for applications in fields such as DNA analysis, drug screening, cell culture and biosensing. However, microfluidic chips are susceptible to disruption and damage from bubbles. Current bubble removal methods suffer from limitations including narrow applicability, poor biocompatibility, limited bubble containment volume, low degassing rates, manufacturing complexity and integration challenges. Addressing these issues, this study presents the development of a bubble filtration microfluidic chip inspired by the stomatal pore structure in plant leaves, which prevents air propagation between conduits. Surface wettability theory and surface tension principles were utilized to investigate the mechanism of bubble filtration by plant stomatal pores. A cellulose/PVA hydrogel was introduced to enable the microfluidic chip to effectively filter bubbles. The design and in situ formation method of the bubble filtration chip were developed, and the chip was fabricated using micro-nanofabrication processes. Performance evaluation of the bubble filtration microfluidic chip demonstrated that with a gel film thickness of 20 μm, the microfluidic chip exhibits high gas leak threshold and minimal flow loss. The resulting biomimetic bubble filtration microfluidic chip features a simple structure, compact size, and independence from auxiliary equipment, making it suitable for portable microfluidic devices. Metal halide perovskites with suitable energy band structures and excellent visible-light responses have emerged as promising photocatalysts for CO2 reduction to valuable chemicals and fuels. However, the efficiency of CO2 photocatalytic reduction often suffers from inefficient separation and sluggish transfer. Herein, a step-scheme (S-scheme) CsPbBr3/BiOBr photocatalyst with oxygen vacancies possessing intimate interfacial contact was fabricated by anchoring CsPbBr3 QDs on BiOBr-Ov nanosheets using a mild anti-precipitation method. The results showed that CsPbBr3/BiOBr-Ov-2 with an internal electric field (IEF) heterojunction exhibited a boosted evolution rate of 27.4 μmol g−1 h−1 (CO: 23.8 μmol g−1 h−1 and CH4: 3.6 μmol g−1 h−1) with an electron consumption rate (Relectron) of 76.4 μmol g−1 h−1, which was 5.9 and 3.2 times that of single CsPbBr3 and BiOBr-Ov, respectively. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that BiOBr with oxygen vacancies can effectively enhance the adsorption and activation of CO2 molecules. More importantly, in situ infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) spectra show the transformation process of the surface species, while the femtosecond transient absorption spectrum (fs-TA) reveals the charge transfer kinetics of the CsPbBr3/BiOBr-Ov. Overall, this work provides some guidance for the rational design of S-scheme heterojunctions and vacancy-engineered photocatalysts, which are expected to have potential applications in the fields of photocatalysis and solar energy conversion. Traditional hydrogels with soft and wet features often show poor mechanical properties due to their single cross‐linked network and amorphous structure. Hence, there are still great challenges in the preparation of strong and elastic hydrogels with superior lubrication performance for broader applications. Inspired by the biphasic structure of natural cartilage, the tough layered P(AM‐AA)‐Fe3+ (poly(acrylamide‐co‐acrylic acid)‐Fe3+) hydrogels are prepared via a sodium citrate treatment‐induced surface dissociation approach. The top lubricating layer with porous structure and high water content can achieve ultra‐low friction (friction coefficient [COF] ~ 0.010 at 5 N load), whereas the bottom stiff layer with compact structure demonstrates excellent load‐bearing capacity. The layered structure could provide hydrogels with excellent physical functions such as high strength (~7.1 MPa), superior lubrication (COF ~ 0.018, 10 N), and wear resistance (COF < 0.05, 5 N, 18,000 cycles), thereby expanding the application of hydrogel in the field of bioinspired lubrication materials. Metaphorical language describing the COVID-19 pandemic as a war has been pervasive in public discourse (e.g. "the pandemic is a war," "the virus is an enemy," and "the vaccine is a weapon"). This study employs an online survey experiment (N = 551 U.S. adults) to examine the impact of war metaphors compared to non-metaphorical literal frames and fire metaphors (e.g. "the pandemic is a wildfire"). War metaphors exhibited little advantage over literal frames across a variety of desirable outcomes (i.e. the adoption of pro-health behaviors against COVID-19, perceived solidarity and collective responsibility to curb the pandemic, and intentions to discuss and share the health news with others). However, this study revealed some benefits of war metaphors over fire metaphors. Compared with fire metaphors, health news featuring war metaphors increased both positive emotions and perceived threats of COVID-19, which in turn promoted pro-health behaviors against COVID-19 and perceived solidarity to cope with the public health crisis. Moreover, positive emotions in response to war metaphors also indirectly encouraged the retransmission of science-based COVID-19 health news. This study thus showcased the benefits and limitations of war metaphors and revealed the mediating roles of perceived threats and positive emotions in explaining war metaphorical framing effects.
