The analysis of CD87 (urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor - uPAR) expression has a potential role in the diagnostic or prognostic work-up of several hematological malignancies, particularly acute leukemia and multiple myeloma. The distribution of CD87 in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) varies according to the FAB subtype (highest expression in M5 and lowest in M0). Functionally, it is conceivable that the expression of CD87 could contribute to the invasive properties of the leukemic cells towards the skin and mucosal tissues as reflected by the clinical behavior of CD87 high cases. The lack of or weaker expression of CD87 on blast cells from ALL patients supports the concept that CD87 investigation might help in the distinction of AMLs from lymphoid malignancies. Among lymphoproliferative disorders, the expression of CD87 is exclusively found in pathological plasma cells. Since plasma cells also coexpress some adhesion molecules such as CD138 and CD56, this observation is consistent with the capacity of these cells to home in the bone compartment. Summary. Folates are involved in the cerebral metabolism of cobalamine, methionine, L-tyrosine and acetylcholine. Remarkably CSF-folate levels are 3 to 4 times higher than blood-folate levels. To reach the brain, folates are actively transported by choroid plexus (CP) as well as vitamins B6, B12, C and E. Epithelial atrophy having been reported in aging and in Alzheimer's disease (AD), we measured the CSF folate-levels of 126 patients, including 30 AD consecutive patients to evaluate whether CP functions of folate-transport were impaired. CSF-folate concentrations did not vary with age (10.47 ± 1.93 ng/ml between 20 and 60 years; 9.96 ± 2.01 ng/ml in elderly control patients older than 60 years of age, p > 0.05) while late-onset AD patients had significantly lower CSF-folate levels (8.26 ± 1.82 ng/ml, p < 0.001). This case report describes a successful pregnancy and delivery in a woman presenting with ovarian autoimmunity who had previously been involved in two unsuccessful in-vitro fertilization (IVF) attempts. Ten days before a third attempt, she began a regimen of 25 mg per day of prednisolone which was continued throughout the whole IVF protocol. Ovulation was induced by human menopausal gonadotrophin. After administration of 5000 IU of human chorionic gonadotrophin, 18 oocytes were collected. At 48 h after insemination with the patient's husband's spermatozoa, four 4-cell pre-embryos were transferred.
