Background: Hyperglycemia is one of the most common comorbidities in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). This study aimed to assess the impact of short-term longitudinal blood glucose level change trajectories on the 30-day mortality risk in patients with AIS. Methods: Data for AIS patients were obtained from the 2001–2019 Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC) database. The latent growth mixture modeling (LGMM) was utilized to classify a patient's blood glucose level trajectory within 24 h of admission. Cox regression analyses were applied to examine the relationship between blood glucose levels at admission and blood glucose level trajectories and the risk of 30-day mortality in patients with AIS. Results: A total of 2,432 patients with AIS were included in this retrospective cohort study, with 30-day mortality occurring in 574 (23.60%) patients. The median glucose levels of all patients were 136.00 (110.00, 178.00) mg/dL. Four blood glucose level trajectories were identified: low level-stable trend (type 1), moderate level-stable trend (type 2), high level-decreasing-increasing trend (type 3), and moderate level-increasing-decreasing trend (type 4). Type 2 blood glucose level trajectory was associated with an increased risk of 30-day mortality compared with type 1 blood glucose level trajectory [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.28, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.03–1.59), but there were no significant associations between type 3 (HR = 1.16, 95%CI: 0.77–1.74) and type 4 (HR = 1.44, 95%CI: 0.84–2.45) trajectories and 30-day mortality risk. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that the association between type 2 trajectory and 30-day mortality risk was observed in patients aged ≥ 65 years (HR = 1.37, 95%CI: 1.05–1.79), female (HR = 1.42, 95%CI: 1.05–1.94), with (HR = 1.44, 95%CI: 1.02–2.02) or without (HR = 1.42, 95%CI: 1.01–1.99) diabetes, and not using insulin (HR = 2.80, 95%CI: 1.43–5.49). Methods: This study conducted a comprehensive literature search using electronic databases like MEDLINE, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar to identify observational and interventional studies investigating the relationship between dairy product consumption and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. A meta-analysis was performed on clinical trial studies that examined the effect of a low starch/low dairy diet in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome subjects. Statistical analyses were performed using Stata version 16.0 (Stata Corporation, College Station, Texas, USA), and statistical significance was defined as p-value < 0.05. Results: Of the 1,313 citations reviewed, our systematic review identified 11 studies that met the inclusion criteria, comprising six case-control studies, four clinical trials, and one cross-sectional study. The case-control studies found limited evidence of an association between dairy consumption and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. The result of the clinical trial studies in meta-analysis showed that reducing dairy intake along with reducing starch intake led to statistically significant improvements in anthropometric and metabolic measures including mean weight (Standardized mean difference: -8.43 (95% CI: -9.01, -7.86)), Body mass index (-3.14 (95% CI: -3.35, -2.92), waist circumference (-6.63 (95% CI: -10.70, -2.57)) and Waist-to-Height Ratio (-0.04 (95% CI: -0.07, -0.01), insulin fasting (-18.23 (95% CI: -22.11, -14.36)), insulin 120 minutes (-94.05 (95% CI: -157.67, -30.42)), HbA1c (-0.27 (95% CI: -0.37, -0.17)), Ferryman-Gallwey score (-2.07 (95% CI: -2.98, -1.16)) and total testosterone (-9.97 (95% CI: -14.75, -5.19)). This study aimed to determine the effect of adding nuts to a regular breakfast on blood glucose, insulin, and triglyceride levels, and to evaluate participants' opinions by sex as a preliminary study for future studies. Data and biochemical parameters were collected through face-to-face interviews with Acibadem Hospital employees (n = 12) between April and September 2023. Participants consumed 30 g of nut-supplemented breakfasts for 4 weeks while maintaining their regular lifestyle. Blood tests and visual analog scale (VAS) parameters were assessed on intervention days. VAS scores indicated differences in meal taste, post-breakfast well-being, satiety, and meal adequacy, and for "feeling better after breakfast", and "providing better satiety", were significantly higher for the nut-supplemented breakfasts (p < 0.05), especially walnut-supplemented. Under the control of age, sex, and BMI variables in the participants, women responded better to peanut butter consumption than men in terms of blood insulin and triglyceride regulation (p < 0.05). However, triglyceride regulation in men was better managed by walnut consumption than in women. Understanding how nut-supplemented breakfasts impact blood glucose, insulin, and triglyceride levels, as well as consumer perceptions, is crucial for promoting healthier dietary choices. Background: Abnormalities in biochemical parameters and changes in eating habits are considered complications of obesity. Oleoylethanolamide (OEA), an endocannabinoid-like compound, has been shown to have protective effects on many metabolic disorders. Given this evidence, the present study aimed to assess the effects of OEA on lipid profile parameters, fasting blood sugar (FBS), and dietary habits in healthy obese people. Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, which was carried out in 2016 in Tabriz, Iran, 60 obese people were enrolled in the study based on inclusion criteria. The intervention group consumed 125 mg of OEA capsules, and the placebo group received the same amount of starch twice for 8 weeks. Blood samples (5 mL) were taken at baseline and the end of the study in a fasting state. Serum concentrations of FBS, triglycerides (TGs), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and total cholesterol (TC) were measured by enzymatic methods using commercial kits. The low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) concentration was obtained using the Friede-Wald formula. To assess dietary habits, a food frequency questionnaire (147 items) was used at baseline and the end of the study. A value less than < 0.05 was considered to indicate statistical significance. Results: The TG concentration decreased significantly in the intervention group (mean (SD): 166.29 (70.01) mg/dL to 142.22 (48.05) mg/dL, p = 0.047). Changes in the placebo group were not significant (p > 0.05). After adjusting for baseline values and demographic characteristics, the difference in TG between groups remained significant (p = 0.044). Changes in other biochemical parameters were not significant. There was no significant difference between or within groups in terms of food groups. Conclusion: OEA, as a complementary agent, plays a protective role in TG regulation. However, future studies with longer durations are needed to explore the impact of OEA on regulating dietary habits and to identify the mechanisms related to metabolic abnormalities in obese people. Perineuronal nets (PNNs), specialized extracellular matrix (ECM) structures that envelop neurons, have recently been recognized as key players in the regulation of metabolism. This review explores the growing body of knowledge concerning PNNs and their role in metabolic control, drawing insights from recent research and relevant studies. The pivotal role of PNNs in the context of energy balance and whole body blood glucose is examined. This review also highlights novel findings, including the effects of astroglia, microglia, sex and gonadal hormones, nutritional regulation, circadian rhythms, and age on PNNs dynamics. ackground. Some studies have shown that Spirulina has biological properties exerting beneficial effects on human health. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Spirulina supplementation on serum glucose, lipid parameters, and oxidative stress markers in male rats with streptozotocin/nicotinamide–induced T2DM. Methods. In this experimental study, rats with diabetes were divided into six groups: healthy control, diabetic control, diabetic-metformin, diabetic-Spirulina 100 mg/dL, diabetic-Spirulina 200 mg/dL, and healthy control-Spirulina 200 mg/d. At the end of the study (28 days), the blood samples were collected, and the fasting blood glucose (FBG), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), malondialdehyde (MDA), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were determined. Results. Significant reductions (P<0.001) were found in serum level of FBG in Metformin and Spirulina 100 mg/kg compared with diabetic control group. The groups were different regarding the serum levels of HDL-C post-intervention. ANOVA analysis also showed significant differences between the Spirulina 100 mg/kg or Metformin group and diabetic control group regarding the serum level of MDA (P<0.05). Conclusion. Spirulina at a dose of 100 mg/kg may have contributed to controlling the fasting blood glucose and oxidative stress. Practical Implications . Objective: Metformin, an anti-diabetic drug, regulates blood glucose by affecting gut microbiotas. However, the potential mechanism underlying this effect remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of metformin on glucose regulation, lipid levels, and the gut microbiota in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus induced by a high-fat diet with streptozotocin. Research design methods: Thirty Wistar rats was using in this experiment. T2DM rats were administered 300 mg/kg metformin for 8 weeks. The glucose regulation, lipid levels, organ coefficients, and gut microbiotawere measured by 16S rDNA. Result: The metformin-gavaged rats exhibited significant improvements in blood glucose and serum lipid levels, accompanied by alterations in short-chain fatty acid levels and the intestinal microbiota (p < 0.05). In the diabetic rats, metformin potentially increased specific probiotics, thus improving the hypoglycaemic effects of the oral anti-diabetic drug. Further, damage to the liver and kidney was effectively alleviated in the metformin-gavaged rats. Conclusion: This study's findings demonstrate that metformin exerts a positive anti-diabetic effect in HFD- and STZ-induced T2DM rats. Introduction: The fasting blood glucose test is widely used for diabetes screening. However, it may fail to detect early‐stage diabetes characterized by elevated postprandial glucose levels. Hence, we developed and internally validated a nomogram to predict the diabetes risk in older adults with normal fasting glucose levels. Materials and Methods: This study enrolled 2,235 older adults, dividing them into a Training Set (n = 1,564) and a Validation Set (n = 671) based on a 7:3 ratio. We employed the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression to identify predictors for constructing the nomogram. Calibration and discrimination were employed to assess the nomogram's performance, while its clinical utility was evaluated through decision curve analysis. Results: Nine key variables were identified as significant factors: age, gender, body mass index, fasting blood glucose, triglycerides, alanine aminotransferase, the ratio of alanine aminotransferase to aspartate aminotransferase, blood urea nitrogen, and hemoglobin. The nomogram demonstrated good discrimination, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.824 in the Training Set and 0.809 in the Validation Set. Calibration curves for both sets confirmed the model's accuracy in estimating the actual diabetes risk. Decision curve analysis highlighted the model's clinical utility. Conclusions: We provided a dynamic nomogram for identifying older adults at risk of diabetes, potentially enhancing the efficiency of diabetes screening in primary healthcare units. Purpose: This study evaluated glycemic outcomes for hospitalized patients after reduction in bedtime correctional insulin dosing. Methods: This was a retrospective, single-center analysis of a protocol change that reduced bedtime correctional insulin scale. Comparable cohorts pre- and post-protocol change were created which included patients who were ordered correctional insulin with at least 1 blood glucose (BG) reading. The primary outcome was number of nocturnal hypoglycemia readings. Secondary outcomes included, but were not limited to, mean fasting BG, BG within various ranges, and length of stay. Results: 3 percent of patients in the post-protocol change group (N = 100) experienced nocturnal hypoglycemia compared to 6% of patients in the pre-change group (N = 100) (P =.507). There were no significant differences in BG ranges <110 mg/dL, <140 mg/dL, 140 to 180 mg/dL, and >180 mg/dL. However, 19% of patients in the post-protocol change group had BG of >250 mg/dL as compared to 9% in the pre-change group (P =.033). Mean fasting BG was higher in the post-protocol change group compared to the pre-change group (156.5 mg/dL vs 139.3 mg/dL [ P =.002]), as was hospital length of stay (5.17 vs 4.6 days, [ P =.024]). Conclusions: A decreased bedtime correctional insulin scale had mixed results with more patients achieving goal fasting BG but also more patients experiencing BG > 250 mg/dL and longer length of stay. Background: Health of children plays an indispensable role in the development of the country. Nutrition and health of the tribal children continue to be a pressing concern in India. Biochemical and hematological examination of children is an essential tool for assessment of health status, early identification of preventable risk factors and for diagnosis of various diseases. Objective: To assess the health status of Hakki Pikki tribal school children by evaluating the biochemical and haematological parameters. Materials and Methods: This was a community based cross sectional study of 76(Boys-32 and Girls-44) Hakki Pikki tribal children studying at Government Higher Primary School, Hakki Pikki Colony, Gowripura, Bengaluru Karnataka, India. Biochemical and haematological parameters were determined in accordance with standard operating procedures followed by good laboratory practices. Results: The study group consisted of children aged between 6 to 17 years, among them 32 students were males and 44 were females.21(11-boys and 10-girls) children were under weight and 02 girls were overweight. The common ailments found were, dental carries (2.63%), ear discharge (2.63%), anaemia (3.94%), Impetigo (7.89%). Comparing between Boys and Girls less than or equal to 10 years of age there was a significant difference in Creatinine as p-value< 0.05. There was a significant difference in Creatinine, Uric acid, AST, ALT, total protein, albumin, HbA1C and Haemoglobin when comparing between Boys and Girls of age greater than 10 years p-value < 0.05.In these tribal children the distribution of biochemical and haematological parameters values considerably follows the reported reference values. Conclusions: This study highlights a puzzling situation of health status among these Hakki Pikki tribal children due to apparent change in socio cultural, lifestyle, nutrition, and urbanization. Intermittent fasting (IF) regimens have emerged as a dietary tool to improve the glycemic profile, but a critical appraisal of clinical studies assessing the effects of IF regimens in patients with diabetes is needed. Thus, this review encompasses clinical studies examining the impact of different IF regimens on markers of glycemic control in patients with diabetes. Furthermore, clinical nuances relative to pharmacological treatment are also addressed, mainly insulin therapy, to discuss the risk of hypoglycemic events. Only a handful of clinical studies have investigated the effects of IF on patients with diabetes. Overall, IF regimens may elicit modest benefits on glycemic parameters in patients with diabetes, but their effects are not necessarily greater than those of control diets. Last, although IF regimens may be considered safe for patients receiving insulin therapy within interventional and observational research, markers of glycemic control must be constantly monitored in clinical practice to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia and its related complications. Based on the signaling hypothesis of blood glucose (BG), a rise in BG levels signals a positive energy budget for healthy individuals but cellular starvation for individuals with type 1 diabetes. We examined this novel prediction and its intervention implications in the context of delay discounting, the degree to which delayed rewards are discounted, and the regulatory effects of insulin ingestion. We recruited 44 adults with type 1 diabetes (mean age 30.8 years, diabetes duration 15.4 years) and recorded their BG levels. The delay discounting rate was measured using the intertemporal choice task, where participants were required to choose between sets of smaller-and-sooner (SS) and larger-and-later (LL) rewards. In addition, 82 age-matched healthy participants were recruited to provide a baseline comparison on delay discounting. Random forest analysis showed that among many diagnostic factors, delay discounting was most dominating in differentiating the individuals with type 1 diabetes from the control participants. A hierarchical linear mixed model revealed that participants with type 1 diabetes had a stronger preference for SS rewards (p <.001) after controlling for covariates. Participants who had insulin delivered before the last meal exhibited a stronger preference for LL rewards compared to after-meal delivery. In contrast, subjective measures (e.g., self-reported hunger) failed to predict the participants' actual BG levels and delay discounting rates. In sum, individuals with type 1 diabetes tend to discount future rewards excessively compared to the control participants. Furthermore, thanks to technological advances, devices and treatment methods used in diabetes management are constantly being improved. Today, diabetes management is a field that requires constant innovation due to strict blood glucose monitoring requirements. Microwave antennas are a powerful tool for measuring the reflection and absorption properties of electromagnetic waves by interacting them with body tissues and blood. In this study, antenna designs for blood measurements will be demonstrated. In addition, blood and sugar will be illustrated with phantoms and the designed antenna will be tested and the results will be compared with various simulations. Background: Diabetes is the most prevalent metabolic disease globally. Correct and effective healthcare management requires up-to-date and accurate information at the local level. This level of information allows managers to determine whether the health system has achieved its desired goals in this area. This study aimed to evaluate the adequacy and quality of care for Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients using the Lot quality assurance sampling (LQAS) technique to provide evidence for decision-making at the local level, prioritizing and allocating resources. Methods: A descriptive-analytical study was conducted in 12 supervision areas (SAs)/health facilities in northwestern Iran involving 240 patients with T2DM in primary health care. The selection of patients and determination of SAs were done randomly using the LQAS technique. Glycated Hemoglobin (HbA1c) was used to evaluate patients' blood sugar control in each SA. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to estimate predictors of HbA1c in T2DM. Results: The overall average of HbA1c value was 7.84%. The HbA1c level was > 7% in 148 (61.6%) of the patients. Among the 12 SAs, the LQAS identified unacceptable quality of care in 5 SAs. In the final analysis, each unit increase in fasting blood sugar (FBS), High-density lipoprotein (HDL), Low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and Thyroglobulin (TG) values resulted in an increased in HbA1c levels by 0.43, 0.183, 0.124, and 0.182 times, respectively. However, with a one-unit increase in the care of a family physician and nutritionist, along with regular physical activity, HbA1c levels decreased by − 0.162, -0.74, and − 0.11 times, respectively. Conclusions: The quality of care for diabetic patients needs improvement in some SAs. Findings indicated that the LQAS technique effectively identifies centers/areas with substandard diabetes care quality and efficiently allocates resources to those in need. In non-invasive blood glucose measurement, the sensitivity of glucose-induced optical signals within human tissue is a crucial reference point. This study evaluates the sensitivity of glucose-induced diffuse reflectance in the 1000–1700 nm range. A key factor in understanding this sensitivity is the rate at which the scattering coefficient changes due to glucose, as it is significantly higher than in non-living media and predominantly influences the diffuse light signal level when blood glucose levels change. The study measured and calculated the changes in the scattering coefficient at 1314 nm, a wavelength chosen for its minimal interference from glucose absorption and other bodily constituents. Based on the Mie scattering theory and the results at 1314 nm, the changes in the scattering coefficient within the 1000–1700 nm range were estimated. Subsequently, the sensitivity of the glucose signal across this range was determined through Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. The findings from 25 human trials indicate that the measured sensitivities at five other typical wavelengths within this band generally align with the sensitivities calculated using the aforementioned method. Purpose: Traditional fasting causes considerable discomfort without added assurance of security, whereas oral carbohydrate beverage offers an alternative to improve medical experience. This study aims to explore the impact of different types and dosages of oral fluids loading before painless bidirectional endoscopy on the gastric emptying and wellbeing. Methods: 180 patients arranged for bidirectional endoscopy with intravenous anesthesia were randomized: patients in the control group (Group C) obeyed standard fasting; the 200 mL carbohydrate group (Group P1), 400 mL carbohydrate group (Group P2), 200 mL water group (Group W1) and 400 mL water group (Group W2) respectively consumed 200 mL or 400 mL corresponding clear liquids 2 h before the procedure. Gastric emptying metrics under ultrasound, subjective comfort indexes, periprocedural blood glucose and vital signs were contrasted among the groups. Results: No significant differences were detected in the gastric emptying including CSA (cross-sectional area), GV (gastric volume), cGV (corrected gastric volume) and the three-point grading system among groups, and none had a cGV > 1.5 mL/kg before anesthesia. Participants in Group P2 experienced less preprocedural thirst and mouth dryness, so as the postprocedural thirst, mouth dryness and hunger. Periprocedural blood glucose and MAP had the similar trend in all groups. The occurrence of hypotension, bradycardia, hypoxia, and the required norepinephrine was comparable among the groups. Conclusions: Oral beverage loading with 200 mL or 400 mL can be safely applicated 2 h before painless bidirectional endoscopy without increasing the gastric volume. 400 mL carbohydrate solution effectively relieves the discomfort and could serve as a consideration. Post-transplantation diabetes mellitus (PTDM) negatively affects graft and patient survival after kidney transplantation (KT). This prospective study used continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) to evaluate perioperative blood glucose dynamics, identify PTDM risk factors, and compare predictive accuracy with capillary blood glucose monitoring (CBGM) in 60 non-diabetic living-donor KT recipients. Patients underwent 2-week pre- and postoperative CGM, including routine CBGM during their in-hospital stays. PTDM-related risk factors and glucose profiles were analyzed with postoperative CGM and CBG. PTDM developed in 14 (23.3%) patients and was associated with older age, male sex, higher baseline HbA1c, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and 3-month cumulative tacrolimus exposure levels. Male sex and postoperative time above the range (TAR) of 180 mg/dL by CGM were PTDM-related risk factors in the multivariate analysis. For predictive power, the CGM model with postoperative glucose profiles exhibited higher accuracy compared with the CBGM model (areas under the curves of 0.916, and 0.865, respectively). Therefore, we found that male patients with a higher postoperative TAR of 180 mg/dL have an increased risk of PTDM. To investigate the relationship between preoperative blood glucose levels and long-term all-cause mortality in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF) who underwent percutaneous vertebroplasty (VP). This single-center retrospective study involved a chart review of patients admitted for VP to treat OVCF between 2013 and 2020. Patients with pathological or multiple fractures or those who did not undergo bone mineral density assessment were excluded. All relevant information was collected from electronic medical records. The survival status of all patients was confirmed at the end of March 2021. Cox proportional hazard models with multivariate adjustments were used to examine the effects of blood glucose levels on all-cause mortality. Overall, 131 patients were retrospectively analyzed (mean age: 75.8 ± 9.3 years, male patients: 26.7%) with a median follow-up period of 2.1 years. Preoperative hyperglycemia (hazard ratio: 2.668, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.064, 6.689; p = 0.036) and glucose levels (hazard ratio: 1.007, 95% CI 1.002–1.012; p = 0.006) were found to be independently associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality. This correlation remained significant even after adjusting for age and sex, and other factors and comorbidities that might affect outcomes (hazard ratio: 2.708, 95% CI 1.047, 7.003, p = 0.040 and 1.007; 95% CI 1.001, 1.013, p = 0.016, respectively). Furthermore, a history of diabetes mellitus was not a significant factor influencing long-term all-cause mortality. Preoperative glucose levels were found to be independently associated with survival outcomes in patients with OVCF who underwent VP. Conversely, diabetes mellitus was not associated with long-term all-cause mortality. Aim: This study was conducted to compare the satisfaction of patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus regarding blood glucose measurement based on the blood glucose measurement techniques (intravenous and capillary) used. Material and Method: A randomized controlled study was conducted with 110 patients with diabetes mellitus. Patients were randomized into the experimental group (n=55) and control group (n=55). Patient Information Form, Diabetes Fear of Injecting and Self-testing Questionnaire (D-FISQ), and Blood Glucose Measurement Patient Satisfaction Form were used in the study. The control group patients had their blood sugar measured using capillary blood from a finger prick. The experimental group patients had their blood glucose measured intravenously using venous blood, followed by capillary blood glucose measurement from a finger prick. Data analysis was conducted using chi-square test and independent t-test. Results: There were statistically significant differences in the satisfaction of diabetic patients with the blood glucose measurement technique between the use of venous blood and intravenous blood glucose measurement by finger prick (p<0.05). Conclusion: The measurement of blood glucose using venous blood obtained by an intravenous catheter positively affects patient satisfaction compared to the finger prick technique of measuring capillary blood glucose in patients with diabetes. Purpose: The prevalence of diabetes mellitus has significantly increased, with 537 million individuals living with diabetes in 2021. Curcumin, a natural compound present in turmeric, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that aid in controlling diabetes. Curcumin can lower blood glucose levels, increase pancreatic cell function, and reduce insulin resistance. The pathophysiology of diabetes involves oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum stress, which can lead to cell death. This study aimed to evaluate the antidiabetic activity of curcumin in rats by administering it for a month and evaluating pancreatic tissue histology. Patients and Methods: STZ-induced diabetic rats were fed a high-fat diet containing glibenclamide, 200 mg/kg body weight (BW) curcumin, 400 mg/kg BW curcumin, or a placebo for 4 weeks. After intervention, blood glucose levels were measured, and the pancreatic tissue was examined. Blood glucose levels were measured at 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 h. Results: One-way ANOVA was performed to measure the mean difference among the groups at 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 h of observation, which reported a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). The blood glucose levels decreased after 4 h in the group receiving curcumin. Histological evaluation of the pancreas showed slight hydropic degeneration after 4 weeks of curcumin treatment. Background/Purpose: Some health-beneficial foods, including adzuki beans (Vigna angularis), can show antihyperglycemic effects. Adzuki bean-derived polyphenols, such as (+)-catechin 7- O - β - d -glucopyranoside (C7G) and (+)-epicatechin 7- O - β - d -glucopyranoside (E7G), could be potential inhibitors of α-amylase and α-glucosidase, however, few studies of the activity of adzuki polyphenols have been performed in vivo. Thus, we evaluated the antihyperglycemic effects of crude adzuki bean extract containing polyphenols (ABP), and purified C7G or E7G using mice and Caco-2 cells. Methods: Six-week-old male ICR mice were orally administered ABP (100 or 250 mg/kg), C7G or E7G (15 or 40 mg/kg), and sucrose (2 g/kg). Blood samples were taken from the lateral tail vein to measure the blood glucose levels at various times over 0–120 min. Cultured caco-2 cells, an intestinal model, were treated with ABP, C7G, or E7G. The glucose concentration in the medium was measured to examine the activity of α-glucosidase. Results: Administration of adzuki polyphenols decreased blood glucose levels, especially E7G administration significantly showed antihyperglycemic effects in vivo. In Caco-2 cells, α-glucosidase activity was significantly decreased by ABP, C7G, or E7G addition in a dose-dependent manner without cytotoxicity. Conclusion: These results suggest that C7G and E7G in adzuki bean extract inhibited sucrose-degrading enzymes to elicit antihyperglycemic effects in vivo, which supports the results of previous studies using adzuki beans, and may contribute to health promotion. Introduction: Traditionally and empirically, Hibiscus sabdariffa L. has been used in treating diabetes mellitus due to its antioxidant activity. This study aimed to investigate the effect of administering the ethyl acetate fraction of hibiscus calyxes (EAFHCs) on malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) levels, bleeding time, and platelet count in male white rats induced with streptozotocin-induced diabetes. Method: Thirty-six Wistar Kyoto rats were induced with intraperitoneal streptozotocin at 55 mg/kg BW and stabilized for 5 days to obtain diabetic conditions. Diabetic animals were divided into four groups; the diabetic group was given vehicle, the glibenclamide group was given 0.45 mg/kg BW of glibenclamide, and two groups were administered the EAFHCs at doses of 100 mg/kg BW and 200 mg/kg BW for 5 days. Subsequently, the MDA, TNF-α, bleeding time and platelet count levels were examined on days 1, 3, and 5, respectively. All data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA followed by the Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results: EAFHC significantly reduced MDA and TNF-α levels (p < 0.05). Additionally, this fraction appeared to shorten bleeding time and decrease platelet count in diabetic rats. Administration of the EAFHC for 5 days effectively lowered MDA and TNF-α levels significantly, decreased platelet counts and prolonged coagulation (p < 0.05) in diabetic rats. Objective: Limited studies have been conducted on insulin index/load, with inconsistent results regarding the glycemic index/load in relation to cardiometabolic risk factors among people with diabetes. The present study aimed to reveal the association of dietary glycemic index and load and dietary insulin index and load with cardiometabolic risk factors among people with diabetes. Method: This cross-sectional study was performed on 88 adults with diabetes who enrolled in the Cohort Study of Employees of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. The scores of dietary glycemic index (DGI), dietary glycemic load (DGL), dietary insulin index (DII), and dietary insulin load (DIL) were measured using a 116-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Multivariate linear regressions were used to associate each dietary score with fasting blood glucose (FBG), triglyceride, total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Results: DGI was significantly associated with serum FBG (β; 0.24, 95% CI; 0.02, 0.46) and triglyceride (β; 0.53, 95% CI; 0.002, 1.06) levels but not TC, HDL, LDL, or blood pressure after adjusting for age, sex, education, marital status, smoking, body mass index, energy intake, physical activity, having other diseases, and family history of diabetes. Neither DGL, DII, nor DIL was significantly associated with each of the cardiometabolic risk factors after controlling for the confounders. Conclusion: A diet with a higher glycemic index accompanied by a higher serum FBG and triglyceride level. Objectives. The incidence of occupational traumatic injuries caused by human error has been reported to occur at 11:00 and 8–9 h after commencing work. Impaired attention is closely related to the incidence of these accidents. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the changes in blood glucose, fatigue and stress response hormone levels over time among workers in a secondary industry. Methods. The blood glucose and subjective fatigue levels of 26 male secondary-industry workers were measured on workdays. In addition, the cortisol and dehydroepiandrosterone levels in saliva were measured on one workday and one holiday. Results. Blood glucose levels at 11:00 and 17:30 on the workday were significantly lower than those at 09:30. Moreover, hypoglycemia was observed in some participants. A significant increase in subjective fatigue levels was observed during the workday. However, no significant differences in salivary cortisol levels were observed between the workday and the holiday at any time point. Conclusions. Blood glucose levels decreased and subjective fatigue levels increased at the time points that occupational accidents were reported to occur most frequently during work. This study aimed to assess the diagnosis of diabetes after detecting high blood glucose levels through screening among insured individuals in Gunma, Japan. Data for men and women 35 to 74 years of age were provided by Japan Health Insurance Association, and 4133 individuals with high blood glucose levels while not currently being treated for diabetes were included in the study. About 13% received a diagnosis of diabetes at a subsequent physician visit, and individuals who were under treatment for hypertension were less likely to receive the added diagnosis of diabetes compared with those not being treated for hypertension (odds ratio = 0.42 from a logistic regression model). Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) is a severe complication following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH), linked to poor functional outcomes and prolonged intensive care unit (ICU) stays. Timely DCI diagnosis is crucial but remains challenging. Dysregulated blood glucose, commonly observed after aSAH, may impair the constant glucose supply that is vital for brain function, potentially contributing to DCI. This study aimed to assess whether glucose indices could help identify at-risk patients and improve DCI detection. This retrospective, single-center observational study examined 151 aSAH patients between 2016 and 2019. Additionally, 70 of these (46.4%) developed DCI and 81 did not (no-DCI). To determine the value of glycemic indices for DCI, they were analyzed separately in patients in the period before (pre-DCI) and after DCI (post-DCI). The time-weighted average glucose (TWAG, p = 0.024), mean blood glucose (p = 0.033), and novel time-unified dysglycemic rate (TUDR140, calculated as the ratio of dysglycemic to total periods within a glucose target range of 70–140 mg/dL, p = 0.042), showed significantly higher values in the pre-DCI period of the DCI group than in the no-DCI group. In the time-series analysis, significant increases in TWAG and TUDR140 were observed at the DCI onset. In conclusion, DCI patients showed elevated blood glucose levels before and a further increase at the DCI onset. Prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings, as this retrospective, single-center study cannot completely exclude confounders and limitations. Background/Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility and practicability of repeated three-day sequences of a hypocaloric oat-based nutrition intervention (OI) in insulin-treated outpatients with type 2 diabetes and severe insulin resistance. Methods: A randomized, two-armed pilot study was conducted with three months of intervention and three months follow-up with 17 participants with insulin resistance (≥1 IU/kg body weight). Group A (n = 10) performed one sequence of OI; Group B (n = 7) performed two sequences monthly. A sequence was 3 consecutive days of oat consumption with approximately 800 kcal/d. The main objective was to assess feasibility (≥70% completers) and practicability regarding performance aspects. Biomedical parameters such as HbA1 c were observed. To evaluate the state of health, a standardized questionnaire was used (EQ-5 D). Results: OI was feasible (13/17 completer participants (76.5%): 70.0% Group A, 85.7% Group B). Individually perceived practicability was reported as good by 10/16 participants (62.5%). Total insulin dosage decreased from 138 ± 35 IU at baseline to 126 ± 42 IU after OI (p = 0.04) and 127 ± 42 IU after follow-up (p = 0.05). HbA1 c was lower after OI (−0.3 ± 0.1%; p = 0.01) in all participants. Participants in Group B tended to have greater reductions in insulin (Δ−19 IU vs. Δ−4 IU; p = 0.42) and weight loss (Δ−2.8 kg vs. Δ−0.2 kg; p = 0.65) after follow-up. Severe hypoglycemia was not observed. EQ-5 D increase not significantly after follow-up (57.2 ± 24.0% vs. 64.7 ± 21.5%; p = 0.21). Conclusions: The feasibility and practicability of OI in outpatients were demonstrated. OI frequency appears to correlate with insulin reduction and weight loss. Limited research has characterized the metabolic health benefits of bodyweight interval exercise (BWE) performed outside of a laboratory setting. Metabolic responses to exercise can also be influenced by meal timing around exercise, but the interactive effects of BWE and nutrition are unknown. This study investigated the effects of BWE performed in the fasted or fed state on postprandial glycemia, post-exercise fat oxidation and appetite perceptions. Twelve females (23 ± 2 years; 22 ± 2 kg/m2) underwent two virtually-monitored trials that involved completing BWE (10 × 1 min, 1 min recovery) 5 min before (FastEX) or beginning BWE 10 min after (FedEX) a standardized breakfast. Heart rate and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were measured during exercise and capillary glucose concentrations were measured for 2 h postprandial. Following exercise, appetite perceptions were assessed and Lumen expired carbon dioxide percentage (L%CO2) was measured as an index of fat oxidation. Heart rate (85 ± 5%) and RPE (14 ± 2) did not differ between conditions (p > 0.05). Postprandial glucose mean (6.1 ± 0.6 vs. 6.8 ± 0.8 mmol/L, p = 0.03), peak (7.4 ± 1.2 vs. 8.5 ± 1.5 mmol/L, p = 0.01), and area under the curve (AUC) (758 ± 72 vs. 973 ± 82 mmol/L × 2 h, p = 0.004) were lower in FedEX versus FastEX. Appetite perceptions were lower in FedEX versus FastEX (−87.63 ± 58.51 vs. −42.06 ± 34.96 mm, p = 0.029). Post-exercise L%CO2 was transiently decreased 30 min post-exercise in both conditions (4.03 ± 0.38 vs. 4.29 ± 0.34%, p = 0.0023), reflective of increased fat oxidation following BWE. Objective: To determine the effect of Vitamin-D-supplementation on glycemic parameters: glucose levels in blood, insulin, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, and adiponectin in women with gestational diabetes. Methods: An experimental study was executed at PGMI/LGH of Lahore from June 2020 to June 2021, with 34 VitaminD-deficient women who had gestational diabetes (20–26 weeks). All were aged between 21–32 years, randomly and equally divided into controls and cases. Cases received 200,000 IU Vitamin-D-dose. Fasting blood was collected before as well as after treatment from each participant. Spectrophotometry and peroxidase method were used to estimate HbA1c and glucose concentrations respectively. Insulin, adiponectin, and Vitamin-D were assessed by ELISA. To verify data normality, the Shapiro-Wilk test was applied and to prove group comparison Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon signedrank, and Sample-t tests were used via IBM-SPSS version-21. Results: No difference in blood glucose was found between controls and cases before treatment (p=0.858), while post-treatment, significant reduction found in cases (p=0.019). Before treatment, no difference was noticed in insulin levels of both groups (p=0.44), however, post-treatment, a significant decline was expressed in cases (p=0.001). No difference was found in HOMA-IR between controls and cases before treatment (p=0.14) but post-treatment, significant reduction was observed in cases (p=0.001). Non-significant difference was noted in HbA1c before (p=0.664) and after (p=0.169) treatment in both groups. Non-significant upsurge in adiponectin was observed in cases before (p=0.544) and after (p=0.194) treatment. Microplastics are emerging pollutants that have garnered significant attention, with evidence suggesting their association with the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In order to assess the impact of polystyrene microplastic exposure on alterations in the gut microbiota and the subsequent implications for glucose dysregulation under different dietary conditions in mice, we investigated the effects and disparities in the blood glucose levels induced by polystyrene microplastic exposure in mice fed a high-fat diet versus those fed a normal diet. Using 16S rRNA sequencing and bioinformatics analyses, we explored the dynamic changes and discrepancies in the gut microbiota stability induced by polystyrene microplastic exposure under varied dietary conditions, and we screened for gut genera associated with the potential of polystyrene microplastics to disrupt glucose homeostasis. Our findings indicate that a high-fat diet resulted in abnormal mouse body weight, energy intake, blood glucose levels and related metabolic parameters. Additionally, polystyrene microplastic exposure exacerbated the glucose metabolism disorders induced by a high-fat diet. Furthermore, the composition and diversity of the mouse gut microbiota were significantly altered following microplastic exposure, with 11 gut genera exhibiting a differential presence between mice fed a high-fat diet combined with microplastic exposure compared to those fed a normal diet with microplastic exposure. Moreover, Ucg-009 played an intermediary role in the association between a high-fat diet and the fasting blood glucose. Hence, our study demonstrates that polystyrene microplastic exposure exacerbates high-fat diet-induced glucose metabolism disorders, whereas its impact on the blood glucose under normal dietary conditions is not significant, highlighting the differential influence attributable to distinct alterations in characteristic gut genera. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of multidimensional quantitative exercise management on self-efficacy, blood glucose control, and delivery outcomes in pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 150 pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (Exp), which received a multidimensional quantitative exercise management intervention, or the control group (Con), which received standard GDM management. Results were compared between the groups included self-efficacy scores, blood glucose levels, and delivery outcomes. Results: Exp group of pregnant women exhibited drastically superior self-efficacy scores as well as more stable blood glucose levels during pregnancy relative to Con group (P < 0.05). Moreover, visual analogue scale (VAS) of pregnant women and Apgar scores of infants in Exp group were considerably better than those in Con group (P < 0.05). In contrast to Con group, pregnant women in Exp group had considerably better labor outcomes along neonatal complication rates (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Multidimensional quantitative exercise management had a positive impact on pregnant women with GDM. This intervention method can improve self-efficacy levels along better blood glucose control, and enhance delivery outcomes. These findings suggested that multidimensional quantitative exercise management has potential clinical value in the management of GDM, providing an effective management strategy to improve the health conditions of both pregnant women and infants. Purpose: To assess the interactive relationship between blood pressure status and diabetic mellitus (DM) with ganglion cell complex (GCC) thickness in elderly individuals in rural China. Methods: Participants aged 50 years and older in a rural area of Daxing District, Beijing, were recruited in this study from October 2018 to November 2018. All subjects underwent a comprehensive systemic and ocular examination. Blood pressure status was graded as normotension, controlled hypertension and uncontrolled hypertension according to blood pressure measurements and the use of any medication for hypertension treatment. GCC parameters were measured by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). Generalized linear models (GLM) adjusted for related potential confounders were used to assess the interaction between DM and blood pressure status. Results: Among 1415 screened subjects (2830 eyes), a total of 1117 eyes were enrolled in the final analysis. GLM analysis showed a significant interactive relationship between DM with uncontrolled hypertension status (β = 3.868, p = 0.011). GCC thickness would decrease 0.255 μm per year as the age increased (β=-0.255, p < 0.001). In a subgroup of 574 subjects with uncontrolled hypertension, DM was associated with an increased average of GCC thickness (β = 1.929, p = 0.022). Conclusions: The present results revealed a significant interactive relationship between blood pressure status and DM. The average GCC thickness increased in individuals with DM combined with uncontrolled hypertension, which should be considered in the measurement of GCC. Further studies are warranted to explore ganglion cells changes as a non-invasive method to detect neuron alterations in individuals with DM and uncontrolled hypertension. To assess the effect of rice bran oil emulsified formulation (EMF) on cooked rice, a single-arm open clinical trial and in vitro testing for digestion and glycemic response were performed. Fifteen Japanese men consumed 200 g of packed rice, cooked with or without EMF. Blood samples were collected 0, 30, 60, and 120 min post-consumption and analyzed for glucose, insulin, and triglyceride levels. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and sensory evaluation were also performed. A two-step in vitro digestion test, simulating gastric and small intestinal digestion was conducted. EMF-added rice group showed higher insulin response levels at 60 min than the placebo group. Stratification of participants with HbA1c ≥ 5.6 or an insulinogenic index ≤ 0.4 revealed a significant reduction in Cmax glucose levels. A significant correlation was observed between venous and CGM blood glucose levels and no significant sensory differences were observed. The in vitro test revealed significantly lower C∞, equilibrium starch concentrations, with EMF. Clinical trial suggests that EMF may stimulate insulin secretion and reduce blood glucose levels in participants with lower insulin responses. Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a prevalent metabolic disorder influenced by genetic and environmental factors, with India facing a substantial rise in its diabetic population. Recent research has highlighted the association between elevated body iron levels and the onset of diabetes and its complications. This study aimed to explore the relationship between Serum Ferritin, HbA1c%, and Blood Glucose in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. To evaluate the association between Serum Ferritin, HbA1c%, and Blood Glucose in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Material & Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus attending the outpatient and inpatient departments of MNR Medical College & Hospital from June 2023 to January 2024. Patients meeting the inclusion criteria were enrolled, while those with specific exclusions were excluded. Detailed demographic and medical history data were collected, and blood samples were obtained for various biochemical analyses. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 20. Results: The study included 100 patients, with no significant demographic differences between groups. Participants with diabetes exhibited significantly higher fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels, glycemic control, and LDL cholesterol compared to controls (p<0.05). Serum ferritin showed significant correlations with blood glucose (FBS=0.59, PPBS=0.69) and HbA1c (r=0.62). Conclusion: Elevated Serum Ferritin levels correlated significantly with higher Blood Glucose and HbA1c levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, suggesting a potential role of iron metabolism in glycemic control. Context The precise glycemic impact and clinical relevance of postprandial exercise in type 1 diabetes (T1D) has not been clarified yet. Objective This work aimed to examine acute, subacute, and late effects of postprandial exercise on blood glucose (BG). Methods A randomized, controlled trial comprised 4 laboratory visits, with 24-hour follow-up at home. Participants included adults with T1D (n = 8), aged 44 ± 13 years, with body mass index of 24 ± 2.1. Intervention included 30 minutes of rest (CONTROL), walking (WALK), moderate-intensity (MOD), or intermittent high-intensity (IHE) exercise performed 60 minutes after a standardized meal. Main outcome measures included BG change during exercise/control (acute), and secondary outcomes included the subacute (≤2 h after) and late glycemic effects (≤24 h after). Results Exercise reduced postprandial glucose (PPG) excursion compared to CONTROL , with a consistent BG decline in all patients for all modalities (mean declines −45 ± 24, −71 ± 39, and −35 ± 21 mg/dL, during WALK , MOD , and IHE, respectively (P <.001). For this decline, clinical superiority was demonstrated separately for each exercise modality vs CONTROL. Noninferiority of WALK vs MOD was not demonstrated, noninferiority of WALK vs IHE was demonstrated, and equivalence of IHE vs MOD was not demonstrated. Hypoglycemia did not occur during exercise. BG increased in the hour after exercise (more than after CONTROL ; P <.001). More than half of participants showed hyperglycemia after exercise necessitating insulin correction. There were more nocturnal hypoglycemic events after exercise vs CONTROL (P <.05). Conclusion Postprandial exercise of all modalities is effective, safe, and feasible if necessary precautions are taken (ie, prandial insulin reductions), as exercise lowered maximal PPG excursion and caused a consistent and clinically relevant BG decline during exercise while there was no hypoglycemia during or shortly after exercise. Purpose: Post-operative hyperglycemia is a known risk factor for post-surgical complications. The predictive value of pre-operative blood glucose levels, however, is less understood. This study aimed to determine if pre-operative screening blood glucose levels affect the rate of post-operative infection or wound complications. We also investigated if case urgency or anatomic location alters this relationship. Methods: A single-institution retrospective chart review was performed to evaluate patients treated between 2018 and 2021. Subjects ≥ 18 years with closed, non-infected orthopaedic diagnoses requiring surgery were included. Case urgency, demographics, comorbidities, blood glucose level within twelve h prior to surgery, and hemoglobin A1c level within 3 months of surgery, were collected. Infections and wound complications were recorded as outcomes. Results: A total of 775 subjects with a mean age of 61 (range 18–96) were identified, including 543 elective and 232 trauma patients, with a mean pre-operative fasting glucose value of 127.7 mg/dL (range, 49–388 mg/dL) and average HbA1c of 6.9%. The odds of infectious complications were increased by a factor of 1.01 for every 1-point increase in blood glucose (95% CI 1.01–1.02; p < 0.01). Conclusions: Pre-operative blood glucose levels greater than 137 mg/dL were associated with an increase in wound complications, but not deep infections. Infection rates stratified by anatomic site and case urgency were not impacted by pre-operative glucose levels. The increased risk of poor wound healing in patients with pre-operative hyperglycemia demonstrates that day of surgery point-of-care blood glucose screening can be a useful risk stratification tool. We assessed the effects of consuming a U.S.-style healthy dietary pattern (HDP) with lean, unprocessed beef (BEEF) compared to a U.S.-style HDP without meat (vegetarian, VEG) on short-term changes in cardiometabolic disease (CMD) risk factors in adults classified as overweight or obese. Forty-one adults (22 females, 19 males; age 39.9 ± 8.0 y; BMI 29.6 ± 3.3 kg/m2; mean ± SD) completed two 5-week controlled feeding periods (randomized, crossover, controlled trial). For the BEEF HDP, two 3-oz (168-g) servings/d of lean, unprocessed beef were predominately substituted for some starchy vegetables and refined grains in the VEG HDP. Baseline and post-intervention measurements were fasting CMD risk factors, with serum low-density lipoprotein (LDL), total cholesterol (TC), and total apolipoprotein B as primary outcomes. VEG reduced LDL, insulin, and glucose compared to BEEF. Reductions did not differ between VEG vs. BEEF for TC, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), apolipoprotein A1, small, dense LDL IV, buoyant HDL2b, TC-to-HDL ratio, and systolic blood pressure. Total apolipoprotein B and all other CMD risk factors measured were not influenced by HDP type nor changed over time. Adopting a U.S.-style HDP that is either vegetarian or omnivorous with beef improved multiple cardiometabolic disease risk factors among adults classified as overweight or obese. This study evaluated the anti-oxidant and anti-diabetic potential of Caralluma fimbriata (CF) in 28-days rat modelling trial. Diabetes is a chronic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels and insulin resistance and cause microvascular and macrovascular issues. Caralluma fimbriata was evaluated for its nutritional composition along with anti-oxidant potential of CF powder (CFP) and CF extract (CFE) using total phenolic contents (TPC), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric ion reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays. Furthermore, anti-diabetic potential was computed by dividing rats into four groups of 5 individuals each. Rats of Group I was non-diabetic and no supplementation was given while rats of group II were diabetic and no supplementation was given. While group III and group IV rats were diabetic and received CFP and CFE supplementation respectively. CF powder's TPC, and DPPH and FRAP activity were observed maximum at 44.17 ± 0.006 (μgFe/g) in water, 68.75 ± 0.49 (μgFe/g) in acetone and 800.81 ± 0.99 (μgFe/g) in hexane. Supplementation of CFP and CFE reduced blood glucose effectively i.e. (125.00 ± 4.04 and 121.00 ± 4.49 mg/dL, respectively). Moreover, the consumption of C. fimbriata can be helpful in the management of diabetes mellitus due to its glucose lowering potential, anorexic effects, anti-oxidant potential and α-amylase inhibition. Human-induced noise, particularly from shipping and construction, significantly affects the stress responses of swimming crabs (Portunus trituberculatus (Miers, 1876)). Prolonged exposure can lead to stress responses, impacting the overall health of the crabs. This study aimed to assess how noise affects stress responses in P. trituberculatus. The sound had an intensity of 163 dB 1 µPa for the noise condition and 114 dB 1 µPa for ambient sound. Portunus trituberculatus was continuously exposed to the noise stimulus for 6 h. Samples of serum, muscle tissue, gills, and hepatopancreas were collected at multiple time points: 0 min, 10 min, 30 min, 1 h, 3 h, 6 h, and 7 h. The serum cortisol levels in the noise-exposed group were significantly higher than those in the control group at 30 min and 6 h. The two groups had no significant differences regarding serum glucose and muscle lactic acid content. In the noise-exposed group, the gills exhibited significantly lower superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels. Conversely, for the hepatopancreas, the SOD levels in the noise-exposed group were notably lower than those in the control group at 10 min but significantly higher at 6 and 7 h. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were substantially higher in the noise-exposed group than in the control group at 30 min and 6 h. Purpose: This study investigated the associations between intermediate hyperglycemia (IH) and increased body mass index (BMI), abdominal obesity (AO), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and leptin levels in Korean adults. Methods: The participants were 248 adults (≥ 19 years) who understood the purpose of the study, had no cognitive impairment, and were able to communicate. Physical examinations, BMI, AO measurements, and blood tests were performed. Data were analyzed using the t-test, chi-square test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple logistic regression analyses. The risk factors for IH were predicted after adjusting for BMI, waist circumference (WC), age, hs-CRP and leptin levels, education, and economic status. Results: WC, hs-CRP and leptin levels, and age were higher in the IH group than in the non-IH group. According to the multiple logistic regression analysis, the factors affecting IH prevalence were WC, hs-CRP, leptin, and age. AO (male, WC ≥ 90 cm; female, WC ≥ 85 cm) exhibited an adjusted odds ratio of 5.45 for IH. IH was 2.43 times higher in those with hs-CRP > 3 mg than in those with hs-CRP < 1 mg. As leptin levels increased, the odds ratio for IH increased by 3.05 times. IH was 8.07, 8.79, 18.42, and 35.33 times more common for those in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and ≥ 60 years of age, respectively, than those 19-29 years old. Conclusion: This study provides evidence that interventions for AO should be included in IH management programs. Background: Perioperative blood glucose control has been demonstrated to influence outcomes following spine surgery, though this association has not been fully elucidated in patients with traumatic spine injuries. This study sought to determine the association between perioperative blood glucose levels and complications or outcomes in patients undergoing spine surgery due to injury. Methods: A retrospective review was conducted to identify patients who underwent spine surgery due to traumatic injuries between 1 March 2020 and 29 September 2022 at a single academic institution. Descriptive factors, complications, and outcomes were compared between those with a postoperative blood glucose level of <200 mg/dL and those with a preoperative glucose of <200 mg/dL. Results: Patients with a post- and preoperative blood glucose of ≥200 mg/dL had significantly higher odds of respiratory complications (OR = 2.1, 2.1, P = 0.02, 0.03), skin/wound complications (OR = 2.2, 2.8, P = 0.04, 0.03), and increased hospital length of stay (OR = 9.6, 12.1, P = 0.02, 0.03) compared with those with blood glucose of <200 mg/dL. Those with postoperative glucose ≥200 mg/dL also had significantly higher odds of inpatient mortality (OR = 4.5, P = 0.04) when controlling for confounding factors. Neither pre- nor postoperative blood glucose of ≥200 mg/dL was associated with an improvement in American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale score at the final follow-up when controlling for multiple confounding factors (P = 0.44, 0.06). Conclusion: Elevated blood glucose both pre- and postoperatively was associated with an increased rate of postoperative complications and negative postoperative outcomes. Simple Summary: In the present meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials, probiotic fermented milk supplementation appeared to be beneficial in lowering the levels of fasting plasma glucose, HbA1c, total cholesterol, and C-reactive protein. While these findings are encouraging, they should be interpreted cautiously, as considerable limitations of the included trials and analyses precluded solid conclusions. Modulating gut microbiota composition through probiotic administration has been proposed as a novel therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and fermented milk is arguably the most common and ideal probiotic carrier. The present meta-analysis was performed to assess the effects of probiotic fermented milk supplementation on glucose and lipid metabolism parameters and inflammatory markers in patients with T2DM using published data from randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases were searched for relevant RCTs. A random-effects model was used to generate the weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI). Probiotic fermented milk supplementation reduced the levels of fasting plasma glucose (MD = −17.01, 95% CI −26.43, −7.58 mg/dL; n = 7), hemoglobin A1c (MD = −0.47, 95% CI −0.74, −0.21%; n = 7), total cholesterol (MD = −5.15, 95% CI −9.52, −0.78 mg/dL; n = 7), and C-reactive protein (MD = −0.25, 95% CI −0.43, −0.08; n = 3) but did not significantly affect the levels of HOMA-IR (MD = −0.89, 95% CI −2.55, 0.78; n = 3), triglyceride (MD = −4.69, 95% CI −14.67, 5.30 mg/dL; n = 6), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (MD = −4.25, 95% CI −8.63, 0.13 mg/dL; n = 7), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (MD = 1.20, 95% CI −0.96, 3.36 mg/dL; n = 7), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (MD: −0.58, 95% CI −1.47, 0.32 pg/mL; n = 2). In summary, the present findings provide a crude indication of the potential benefits of probiotic fermented milk supplementation in improving glucose and lipid metabolism and inflammation in patients with T2DM.
