Observations of coherent scatter from patchy sporadic E layers in the subauroral zone made with a 30‐MHz coherent scatter radar imager are presented. The quasiperiodic (QP) echoes are similar to what has been observed at middle latitudes but with some differences. The echoes arise from bands of scatterers aligned mainly northwest to southeast and propagating to the southwest. A notable difference from observations at middle latitudes is the appearance of secondary irregularities or braids oriented obliquely to the primary bands and propagating mainly northward along them. We present a spectral simulation of the patchy layers that describes neutral atmospheric dynamics with the incompressible Navier Stokes equations and plasma dynamics with an extended MHD model. The simulation is initialized with turning shears in the form of an Ekman spiral. Ekman‐type instability deforms the sporadic E layer through compressible and incompressible motion. The layer ultimately exhibits both the QP bands and the braids, consequences mainly of primary and secondary neutral dynamic instability. Vorticity due to dynamic instability is an important source of structuring in the sporadic E layer. Objectives: Malnutrition, particularly protein insufficiency, is common in institutionalised older adults and increases morbidity, mortality, and costs. We aimed to determine whether 12 months supplementation using high-protein foods (milk, cheese, yoghurt) prevents malnutrition in older adults. Design: Cluster randomised control study. Setting: Sixty Australian aged care facilities. Participants: Older adults living in aged care homes (n=654, mean age 86.7±7.2 years, 72% females). Intervention: Facilities randomly allocated to a high-protein (n=30 intervention) or regular (n=30 controls) menu. Measurements: Nutritional status assessed using the Mini Nutrition Assessment (MNA) tool and fasting morning blood samples (n=302) assayed for haemoglobin (Hb) and albumin. Food intake was monitored 3-monthly using visual plate waste assessment. Measurements at baseline and month 12 were analysed using random effects model accounting for clustering (facility), repeated measure and confounders. Results: Addition of 11g of protein as 1.5 servings of high-protein foods daily preserved nutritional status that deteriorated in controls [MNA screen (−0.68, 95%CI: −1.03, −0.32, p<0.001) and total (−0.90, 95%CI: −1.45, −0.35, p=0.001) scores], resulting in group differences in MNA screen (0.62, 95%CI: 0.17, 1.06, p=0.007) and total (0.81, 95%CI: 0.11, 1.51, p=0.023) scores and group difference in Hb (3.60g/L, 95%CI: 0.18, 7.03, p=0.039), the net result of preservation with intervention (0.19g/L, 95%CI: −2.04, 2.42, p=0.896) and a decline in controls (−3.41g/L, 95%CI: −6.01, −0.82, p=0.010). No group differences were observed for serum albumin. Conclusion: Consumption of high-protein foods is a pragmatic approach to maintaining nutritional status in older adults in aged-care. Aim. Research on the effect of oral contraceptive (OC) use on the risk of depression shows inconsistent findings, especially in adult OC users. One possible reason for this inconsistency is the omission of women who discontinue OCs due to adverse mood effects, leading to healthy user bias. To address this issue, we aim to estimate the risk of depression that is associated with the initiation of OCs as well as the effect of OC use on lifetime risk of depression. Methods. This is a population-based cohort study based on data from 264,557 women from the UK Biobank. Incidence of depression was addressed via interviews, inpatient hospital or primary care data. The hazard ratio (HR) between OC use and incident depression was estimated by multivariable Cox regression with OC use as a time-varying exposure. To validate causality, we examined familial confounding in 7,354 sibling pairs. Results. We observed that the first 2 years of OC use were associated with a higher rate of depression compared to never users (HR = 1.71, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.55-1.88). Although the risk was not as pronounced beyond the first 2 years, ever OC use was still associated with an increased lifetime risk of depression (HR = 1.05, 95% CI: 1.01-1.09). Previous OC use were associated with a higher rate of depression compared to never users, with adolescent OC users driving the increased hazard (HR = 1.18, 95% CI: 1.12-1.25). No significant association were observed among adult OC users who had previously used OCs (HR = 1.00, 95% CI: 0.95-1.04). Notably, the sibling analysis provided further evidence for a causal effect of OC use on the risk of depression. Conclusions. Our findings suggest that the use of OCs, particularly during the first 2 years, increases the risk of depression. Additionally, OC use during adolescence might increase the risk of depression later in life. Our results are consistent with a causal relationship between OC use and depression, as supported by the sibling analysis. This study highlights the importance of considering the healthy user bias as well as family-level confounding in studies of OC use and mental health outcomes. Several studies indicate that burrows play an essential role in burrowing fish, especially mudskippers, but little is known on burrow morphology and utilization of Periophthalmodon septemradiatus. This study was therefore conducted at five sampling sites from the estuary to upper reaches of Hau River to contribute to the knowledge of the behavior of Pn. septemradiatus, via in situ and ex situ observations of the utilization of burrow structures. Burrows made by polyester resin were used to determine their morphology. The male mudskippers Pn. septemradiatus were observed to excavate burrows using their mouths during the low tide. The burrows' shapes were found to be J, U and W, with 1–3 openings and one bulbous chamber. The chamber was used as egg container where the mudskipper deposits their fertilized eggs. W‐shaped burrows were found to be interconnected chambers where the mudskipper used it to change direction of movements inside the burrow. For the J‐ and U‐shaped burrows, the commonality at all five sites was identified. The W‐shaped burrows were common and were only found at two sites (Long Duc and An Lac Tay). For the burrows' structure, the openings to the surface were oval, circular and bulbous in shape. Yet, there were variations between sites, and the burrows' size was similar during the dry and wet seasons. At different sites, the depth of the burrows seasonally changed. The burrows used by mudskipper provide shelter, spawning sites, and access to feeding grounds for other mudskipper species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) in Vietnamese among hospital nursing staff. Methods: The 22‐items version of the JCQ was used. This includes four scales: (a) psychological demands (5 items); (b) job control (9 items); (c) supervisor support (4 items); and (d) coworker support (4 items). All 1258 nurses in a general hospital in Vietnam, excluding 11 who were due to retire, were invited to complete the cross‐sectional survey. The internal consistency reliability was estimated using Cronbach's α. Construct validity was examined using exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Convergent validity was evaluated by calculating correlations between the JCQ scores and DASS 21 and overtime work. Results: In total, 949 (75%) of the 1258 eligible nurses completed the survey. Cronbach's α values demonstrated acceptable internal consistency in two scales (supervisor support α =.87; coworker support α =.86), while Cronbach's α was below the acceptable threshold of 0.70 for job control (α =.45) and job demand (α =.50). EFA assuming a four‐factor structure showed a factor structure that was almost identical to the original JCQ, with two items loading on other scales. The subscales of depression, anxiety, and stress response of DASS 21 and the subscales of JCQ were significantly correlated, as expected. Conclusion: The results suggest that the JCQ in Vietnamese can be used with some reliability and validity for examining psychosocial work environment among nurses. In this paper, we proposed an indirect method to measure the distance of an object accurately by single visual cameras using triangulation. The object can be seen as the third point of a triangle with two known sides and one known angle. Distance to object can be determined indirectly on the base of known sides and angle, rather than being measured directly. It would be very useful in case there is no line of sight to object (inaccessible) or an obstacle interrupts it. Furthermore, the results show that the measured distance using the indirect method has a lower measurement error than the one using the direct method. This method establishes a basis for the implementation of the position algorithm into the navigation subsystem of swarm robots and will be very helpful especially in robot cooperation. Magnetic drug targeting (MDT) by using magnetic nano-particles (MNPs) is a technique used to deliver drug molecules to a desired location. One of the major challenges in MDT is to develop an electromagnetic actuator to focus micro-/nano-particles into a desired deep region. A novel electromagnetic actuation scheme for pushing micro-/nano-particles has been designed to accumulate MNPs in the brain, and an optimal design is studied for the actuation system. The suggested design maximizes the magnetic gradient within a focusing field workspace and allows the accumulation of nano-particles on a specified surface. The configuration and specifications of the optimal design are introduced. Performance of the proposed design was examined through simulations with COMSOL Multiphysics software. The results show that applicability of this scheme is very high in practice because of the simple coil structure and easy guidance scheme. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There is a miscibility gap in the CoFe2O4–Co3O4 phase diagram. In this miscibility gap, the oxides can be subjected to a spinodal transformation. It has already been observed in oxides consisting of crystals greater than or equal to 100 nm that spinodal decomposition leads to the formation of two alternating iron-rich and cobalt-rich spinel phases. The pseudo-periodic alternation occurs approximately every 5 nm. In the miscibility gap, thin films of pure iron cobaltites, consisting of crystallites of the order of 10 nm in diameter and around 300 nm in thickness, undergo transformation when they are treated at 600 °C for several hours. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy clearly reveal this transformation, which is accentuated as a function of the treatment time. An electron microscopy study of the cross-sections (view of the films along their thickness), confirms the progressive separation of the former spinel oxide in iron-rich and cobalt-rich spinel phases, without however revealing a pseudo-periodic organization of these phases, whatever the time of treatment. In an attempt to reveal this organization, a specific method of preparation has been implemented to extract the upper part of the films parallel to their basic plane and to observe the crystallites in plan view. The alternation of the iron- and cobalt-rich phases could, however, only be found in the largest crystallites. It seems that the nanometric size of the crystallites prevents the establishment of a pseudo-periodic organization of the phases during the periodic transformation. The observation of compositional anomalies in the grain boundaries seems to support the hypothesis related to a nanometric effect of the crystallization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Water temperature is a physical property influencing abiotic and biotic parameters in an aquatic ecosystem. In different Central European rivers and lakes, a general trend of water temperatures in the range of +0.05 to +0.8 °C per decade was identified. Our case study analyses whether similar patterns apply to the headwaters of the Volga River, in the East European plain. Based on a dataset of water temperatures for 2008–2015, we investigated the spatial and temporal distribution of water temperature along the Tudovka River and estimated backward as well as predicted future changes from development scenarios throughout the 21st century. Stochastic models were applied to track trends and variations in water temperature. Furthermore, the correlation between water temperature and air temperatures was used to model historical water temperatures and to predict possible changes in the future, under the effects of climate change. Based on climate change scenarios, an increase of the mean water temperatures as well as changes regarding the ice cover can be expected until the end of this century. The conditions described for the headwaters of the Volga River system represent a valuable dataset for medium and large rivers in the East European plain and serve as a basis for future management. Objective: The question of how to best conceptualize health anxiety (HA) from a diagnostic and etiological perspective remains debated. The aim was to examine the relationship between HA and the symptoms of anxiety and obsessive–compulsive‐related disorders in a normative twin population. Method: Four hundred and ninety‐six monozygotic adult twin pairs from the Australian Twin Registry participated in the study (age, 34.4 ± 7.72 years; 59% females). Validated scales were used to assess each domain. We applied a twin regression methodology—ICE FALCON—to determine whether there was evidence consistent with ‘causal’ relationships between HA and other symptoms by fitting and comparing model estimates. Results: Estimates were consistent with higher levels of obsessing (‘unwanted thoughts’) (P = 0.008), social anxiety (P = 0.03), and body dysmorphic symptoms (P = 0.008) causing higher levels of HA symptoms, and with higher levels of HA symptoms causing higher levels of physical/somatic anxiety symptoms (P = 0.001). Conclusion: Obsessional thoughts, body dysmorphic concerns, and social anxiety symptoms may have a causal influence on HA. To report physical/somatic anxiety appears to be a consequence of the underlying presence of HA‐related fears. Should our results be confirmed by longitudinal studies, the evaluation and treatment of HA may benefit from the consideration of these identified risk factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The purpose of this study was to compare the differences across occupational groups related to their end-of-life care-specific educational needs and reported intensity of interprofessional collaboration in long-term care (LTC) homes. Methods: A cross-sectional survey, based on two questionnaires, was administered at four LTC homes in Ontario, Canada using a modified Dilman's approach. The first questionnaire, End of Life Professional Caregiver Survey, included three domains: patients and family-centered communication, cultural and ethical values, effective care delivery. The Intensity of Interprofessional Collaboration Scale included two subscales: care sharing activities, and interprofessional coordination. In total, 697 LTC staff were given surveys, including personal support workers, support staff (housekeeping, kitchen, recreation, laundry, dietician aids, office staff), and registered staff (licensed nurses, physiotherapists, social workers, pharmacists, physicians). Results: A total of 317 participants completed the survey (126 personal support workers, 109 support staff, 82 registered staff) for a response rate of 45%. Significant differences emerged among occupational groups across all scales and subscales. Specifically, support staff rated their comfort of working with dying patients significantly lower than both nurses and PSWs. Support staff also reported significantly lower ratings of care sharing activities and interprofessional coordination compared to both registered staff and personal support workers. Conclusions: These study findings suggest there are differing educational needs and sense of interprofessional collaboration among LTC staff, specific to discipline group. Both the personal support workers and support staff groups appeared to have higher needs for education; support staff also reported higher needs related to integration on the interdisciplinary team. Efforts to build capacity within support staff related to working with dying residents and their families are needed. Purpose: Vegetarian and vegan diets have gained popularity in Switzerland. The nutritional status of individuals who have adopted such diets, however, has not been investigated. The aim of this study was to assess the intake and status of selected vitamins and minerals among vegetarian and vegan adults living in Switzerland. Methods: Healthy adults [omnivores (OVs), n = 100; vegetarians (VGs), n = 53; vegans (VNs), n = 53] aged 18-50 years were recruited, and their weight and height were measured. Plasma concentrations of the vitamins A, C, E, B1, B2, B6, B12, folic acid, pantothenic acid, niacin, biotin and β-carotene and of the minerals Fe, Mg and Zn and urinary iodine concentration were determined. Dietary intake was assessed using a three-day weighed food record, and questionnaires were issued in order to assess the physical activity and lifestyle of the subjects. Results: Omnivores had the lowest intake of Mg, vitamin C, vitamin E, niacin and folic acid. Vegans reported low intakes of Ca and a marginal consumption of the vitamins D and B12. The highest prevalence for vitamin and mineral deficiencies in each group was as follows: in the omnivorous group, for folic acid (58 %); in the vegetarian group, for vitamin B6 and niacin (58 and 34 %, respectively); and in the vegan group, for Zn (47 %). Despite negligible dietary vitamin B12 intake in the vegan group, deficiency of this particular vitamin was low in all groups thanks to widespread use of supplements. Prevalence of Fe deficiency was comparable across all diet groups. Conclusions: Despite substantial differences in intake and deficiency between groups, our results indicate that by consuming a well-balanced diet including supplements or fortified products, all three types of diet can potentially fulfill requirements for vitamin and mineral consumption. BackgroundNegative mood states are composed of symptoms of depression and anxiety, and by a third factor related to stress, tension and irritability. We sought to clarify the nature of the relationships between the factors by studying twin pairs.MethodA total of 503 monozygotic twin pairs completed the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS), an instrument that assesses symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress–tension. We applied a recently developed twin regression methodology – Inference about Causation from Examination of FAmiliaL CONfounding (ICE FALCON) – to test for evidence consistent with the existence of ‘causal’ influences between the DASS factors.ResultsThere was evidence consistent with the stress–tension factor having a causal influence on both the depression (p < 0.0001) and anxiety factors (p = 0.001), and for the depression factor having a causal influence on the anxiety factor (p < 0.001).ConclusionsOur findings suggest a critical role for stress–tension in the structure of negative mood states, and that interventions that target it may be particularly effective in reducing depression and anxiety symptoms. Summary: The study aimed to quantify the long-term effects of stroke on tibial bone morphology and hip bone density. Only the trabecular bone mineral density and bone strength index in the hemiparetic tibial distal epiphysis showed a significant decline among individuals who had sustained a stroke 12-24 months ago. Introduction: This study aims to determine the changes in bone density and morphology in lower limb long bones during a 1-year follow-up period and their relationship to muscle function in chronic stroke patients. Methods: Twenty-eight chronic stroke patients (12-166 months after the acute stroke event at initial assessment) and 27 controls underwent bilateral scanning of the hip and tibia using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and peripheral quantitative computed tomography, respectively. Each subject was re-assessed 1 year after the initial assessment. Results: Twenty stroke cases and 23 controls completed all assessments. At the end of the follow-up, the paretic tibial distal epiphysis suffered significant decline in trabecular bone density (−1.8 ± 0.6 %, p = 0.006) and bone strength index (−2.7 ± 0.6 %, p < 0.001). More severe decline in the former was associated with poorer leg muscle strength ( ρ = 0.447, p = 0.048) and motor recovery ( ρ = 0.489, p = 0.029) measured at initial assessment. The loss in trabecular bone density remained significant among those whose stroke onset was 12-24 months ago ( p < 0.001), but not among those whose stroke onset was beyond 24 months ago ( p > 0.05) at the time of initial assessment. The changes of outcomes in the tibial diaphysis, except for cortical bone mineral content on the non-paretic side (−1.3 ± 0.3 %, p = 0.003), and hip bone density were well within the margin of error for precision. Conclusions: There is evidence of continuous trabecular bone loss in the paretic tibial distal epiphysis among chronic stroke patients, but it tends to plateau after 2 years of stroke onset. We utilized a sample of 299 adult females aged between 19 and 86 years, carrying fragile X mental retardation ( FMR1) alleles with small CCG expansions ranging from 50 to 141 repeats to analyse the relationships between psychological symptoms as assessed by the Symptom Checklist-90-Revised ( SCL-90-R) and the size of the CGG repeat in the FMR1 gene. There were highly significant (negative) correlations between the size of the CGG repeat and a great majority of SCL-90-R subscale scores and all the global indices, suggesting that carriers of premutations in the mid-size CGG repeat range may be at greatest risk for the development of psychiatric disorder. A Monte Carlo model has been developed to study the propagation of an ultrashort light pulse through a heterogeneous thick biological specimen. A circular blood vessel is moved within a tissular slab to simulate biological specimen scanning using a picosecond laser source and a collimated ultrafast multichannel opticl shutter. Features of the transmitted light are computed for each position of the blood vessel. The computer program gives an account of the transmitted photons, the flight time which does not exceed straightforward crossing time plus time gate of known duration. A small blood vessel (radius R=2 mm) placed in a 40 mm thick slab is easily located when a time gate of 10 ps duration is employed. Such a time gate also allows the detection of a middle-sized vessel (R=4 mm) embedded in a thicker sample (80 mm). The contrast computed for the transmittance profile is greatly improved when a time gate is used. In addition, shifting of the blood vessel towards the unilluminated side of the sample decreases the contrast. We demonstrate that the time selection process may provide a substantial improvement to the laser tomoscopy technique when used for imaging biological media. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tolerance analysis has been the topic of many research publications in the recent past. It is a method to evaluate the quality of products in terms of functional tolerances. Most of the assessment procedures in process planning are based on trial-and-error runs, which are costly and time consuming. There is also a distinct lack of research focus in the area of process plan verification in which input variables are generated from experiments. This article first provides an overview of tolerance analysis. The limits of the previous studies are explored. A method to overcome problems in manufacturing tolerance analysis is then proposed. This method is based on the model of manufactured part and deviation domains to obtain mathematical formulations. These formulations are applied to manufacturing tolerance analyses in which experimental data are used as input variables. The results obtained are then used to verify process plans relative to functional tolerances or to identify achievable functional tolerances taking into account a given process plan and a given number of parts per million. Ocean wave energy is used to drive a buoyant instrument platform down a wire suspended from a surface float. At the lower terminus of the profiling range, the cam that rectifies wave vertical motion is released and the package, termed the Wirewalker, free ascends. No electronic components are used in the profiler, and only a few moving parts are involved. The Wirewalker is tolerant of a broad range of payloads: the ballast is adjusted by adding discrete foam blocks. The Wirewalker profiles 1000--3000 km month−−1, vertically, with typical missions lasting from days to months. We have analyzed the electrocaloric response in ferroelectric materials in nonequilibrium thermal conditions. The temperature dependences of the electrocaloric response during polarization and depolarization of ferroelectric samples based on solid solutions of barium-strontium titanate and lead magnoniobate-titanate are considered. The difference in the electrocaloric responses for polarization and depolarization, which can be as large as 5 mK, has been demonstrated experimentally. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE:: To investigate glutathione and amino acids related to glutathione metabolism in patients with anorexia nervosa in order to test the hypothesis that these patients exhibit a deficiency of glutathione and therefore might be at an increased risk of developing toxic liver injury. DESIGN:: Controlled observatory study and case report. SETTING:: University Hospital. SUBJECTS:: Subjects included 11 female patients with anorexia nervosa and 12 healthy female controls. INTERVENTIONS:: Determination of fasting free and total glutathione, homocysteine, vitamins B6 and B12 and folic acid in plasma. RESULTS:: A 14-y-old patient with a body mass index of 12.6?kg/m2 presented with markedly elevated transaminases (ALAT >50 × upper limit of normal), and paracetamol was detected in her blood. Patients with anorexia nervosa exhibited lower circulating concentrations of free cysteine (8.9±1.5 vs 12.0±1.4?µmol/l) and free and total glutathione (5.0±1.3 vs 7.1±1.2 and 11.2±3.8 vs 16.2±5.0?µmol/l, respectively). The plasma concentrations of homocysteine (17.5±4.9 vs 12.0±3.8?µmol/l) and also of glycine (194±37 vs 143±41?µmol/l) and glutamine (422±51 vs 353±51?µmol/l) were significantly higher in patients with anorexia nervosa who were not deficient in folic acid, vitamin B6 and B12. CONCLUSIONS:: Lower plasma concentrations of glutathione suggest lower intracellular concentrations of the tripeptide. Higher homocysteine, glycine and glutamine concentrations point to a decreased utilization of these amino acids for glutathione synthesis and an impairment of trans-sulfuration. Consequently, the capacity of patients with anorexia nervosa to detoxify electrophilic metabolites and reactive oxygen species via glutathione may be impaired. Background: The large differences in cardiovascular disease rates between Eastern and Western Europe have largely developed over the last few decades, and are only partly explained by classical risk factors. This study was set up to identify other potential determinants of these differences.Methods: This was an ecological study comparing random samples of men aged 45-64 years selected from three cities representing populations with different rates of cardiovascular mortality: Pardubice (Czech Republic), Augsburg (Bavaria, Germany), and Jerusalem (Israel). In total, 191 (response rate 70%), 153 (70%) and 162 (62%) men, respectively, participated. All centres followed the same study protocol. Lifestyle, anthropometry and biochemical risk factors were assessed by identical questionnaires, standardized medical examination, and central analyses of fasting blood samples.Results: The mortality rates in the study populations, as well as the prevalence of coronary heart disease in study samples, were highest in Czech, intermediate in Bavarian and low in Israeli men. This pattern was replicated across the three samples by mean blood pressure (P < 0.001), cigarette smoking (not significant), triglycerides (P < 0.05), fibrinogen or D-dimer levels (P < 0.05). On the other hand, the prevalence of diabetes and obesity were similar; total and high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein (Lp(a)) and glucose did not differ between Czech and Bavarian men; and Czechs had particularly low levels of serum insulin and factor VIIc. Israelis had low fasting glucose and total cholesterol, as well as HDL-cholesterol levels and a high Lp(a) (each P < 0.001) compared with the two other samples. Striking differences were found for plasma homocysteine (10.5 in Czechs versus 8.9 mumol/l in Bavarians, P < 0.001) and for alpha-carotene (geometric mean in Czechs 16, Bavarians 21 and Israelis 30 micrograms/l), beta-carotene (60, 110 and 102 micrograms/l), and lycopene (84, 177 and 223 micrograms/l), respectively; all P-values < 0.001). Adjustment for obesity or smoking did not change these estimates. There were no differences in the levels of tocopherol and retinol.Conclusions: Czech men had high levels of blood pressure, triglycerides, fibrinogen and D-dimer but many other traditional risk factors, as well as indicators of metabolic disorders and vitamins A and E, did not differ between the study samples. The low levels of carotenoids and high concentrations of homocysteine in Czech men seem to reflect their low dietary intakes of fruit and vegetables. Hot electrons cooling by phonons in GaAs/AlAs cylindrical quantum wire (CQW), under the influence of an intense electromagnetic wave (EMW), is studied theoretically. Analytic expression for the electron cooling power (CP) is derived from the quantum transport equation for phonons, using the Hamiltonian of interacting electron-optical phonon system. Both photon absorption and emission processes are considered. Numerical results show that the CP reaches maximum when the energy difference between electronic subbands equals the energy of an optical phonon plus the photon energy. Under the influence of the EMW, the negative CP is observed showing that electrons gain energy from phonon and photon instead of losing their energy. Also, the CP increases with increasing the EMW amplitude. Our results theoretically clarify the mechanism of the electron cooling process by phonons in the GaAs/AlAs CQW under the EMW, which is of significance for designing and fabricating high-speed nanoelectronic devices based on this material. Osteosarcoma is a malignant bone-forming tumour that typically arises within the metaphysis of long bones. Extraskeletal osteosarcoma is a rare variant that usually arises in the deep soft tissues, especially in the legs. We report a 65-year-old white man with an ulcerated, nodular lesion of the forearm. Based on the histological features and immunohistochemical profile of the tumour, a diagnosis of osteoblastic osteosarcoma was made.
