The photocyclization of diarylethenes toward polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and analogs has been well‐documented. However, stiff‐stilbene was reported to be inactive, and examples of photocyclization‐induced deamination remain unknown. Here, we report that ortho‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)‐stiff‐stilbene (1a) undergoes efficient photocyclization‐induced deamination, forming the dicyclopenta‐fused phenanthrene (DCPP) with good yield (65%) under anaerobic conditions. The relative reactivities of stiff‐stilbenes with different o‐amino substituents (1b–1g) or with an o‐methoxy (1h) group, and those of o‐(N,N‐dimethylamino)stilbenes (2a and 2aMe), provide insights into the substituent and structural effects. Multiple-pathogen periodontal disease necessitates a local release and concentration of antibacterial medication to control inflammation in a particular location of the mouth cavity. Therefore, it is necessary to effectively load and deliver medicine/antibiotics to treat numerous complex bacterial infections. This study developed chlorhexidine (CHX)/polycaprolactone (PCL) nanofiber membranes with controlled release properties as periodontal dressings to prevent or treat oral disorders. Electrostatic spinning was adopted to endow the nanofiber membranes with a high porosity, hydrophilicity, and CHX loading capability. The release of CHX occurred in a concentration-dependent manner. The CHX/PCL nanofiber membranes exhibited good biocompatibility with human periodontal ligament stem cells, with cell viability over 85% in each group via CCK-8 assay and LIVE/DEAD staining; moreover, the good attachment of the membrane was illustrated by scanning electron microscopy imaging. Through the agar diffusion assay, the nanofiber membranes with only 0.075 wt% CHX exhibited high antibacterial activity against three typical oral infection-causing bacteria: Porphyromonas gingivalis, Enterococcus faecalis, and Prevotella intermedia. The results indicated that the CHX/PCL nanofiber holds great potential as a periodontal dressing for the prevention and treatment periodontal disorders associated with bacteria. Aromatic imide derivatives play a critical role in boosting the electroluminescent (EL) performance of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). However, the majority of aromatic imide-based materials are limited to long wavelength emission OLEDs rather than blue emissions due to their strong electron-withdrawing characteristics. Herein, two novel polycyclic fused amide units were reported as electron acceptor to be combined with either a tetramethylcarbazole or acridine donor via a phenyl linker to generate four conventional fluorescence blue emitters of BBI-4MeCz, BBI-DMAC, BSQ-4MeCz and BSQ-DMAC for the first time. BSQ-4MeCz and BSQ-DMAC based on a BSQ unit exhibited higher thermal stability and photoluminescence quantum yields than BBI-4MeCz and BBI-DMAC based on a BBI unit due to their more planar acceptor structure. The intermolecular interactions that exist in the BSQ series materials effectively inhibit the molecular rotation and configuration relaxation, and thus allow for blue-shifted emissions. Blue OLED devices were constructed with the developed materials as emitters, and the effects of both the structure of the polycyclic fused amide acceptor and the electron donor on the EL performance were clarified. Consequently, a sky-blue OLED device based on BSQ-DMAC was created, with a high maximum external quantum efficiency of 4.94% and a maximum luminance of 7761 cd m−2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report herein a new rotation‐inversion dual‐motion molecular switch (1), in which a 3,3‐dimethylazetidinyl (DMAZ) group is the rotator and a stiff‐stilbene is the helical stator. There are two sets of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signals in the DMAZ group, the H‐shaped AZ protons and the planar C2‐symmetrical Me protons, for probing the kinetics of the DMAZ rotation and the stiff‐stilbene inversion. While the two motion modes are highly correlated in (E)‐1, they are decoupled in (Z)‐1. The rotation‐inversion correlated motion in (E)‐1 is governed by the faster inversion mode, whereas the inversion is much slower than the rotation in (Z)‐1. Consequently, photochemical isomerization between (E)‐1 and (Z)‐1 switches not only the relative rate of the rotation versus inversion motion but also the on–off behavior of the rotation‐inversion correlated motion. The dynamic recrystallization (DRX) features and the evolution of the microstructure of a new hot isostatic pressed (HIPed) powder metallurgy (P/M) superalloy are investigated by hot-compression tests. The sensitivity of grain dimension and DRX behavior to deformation parameters is analyzed. The results reveal that the DRX features and grain-growth behavior are significantly affected by deformation conditions. The DRX process is promoted with a raised temperature/true strain or a reduced strain rate. However, the grains grow up rapidly at relatively high temperatures. At strain rates of o.1 s−1 and 1 s−1, a uniform microstructure and small grains are obtained. Due to the obvious differences in the DRX rate at various temperatures, the piecewise DRX kinetics equations are proposed to predict the DRX behavior. At the same time, a mathematical model for predicting the grain dimension and the grain growth behavior is established. To further analyze the DRX behavior and the changes in grain dimension, the hot deformation process is simulated. The developed grain-growth equation as well as the piecewise DRX kinetics equations are integrated into DEFORM software. The simulated DRX features are consistent with the test results, indicating that the proposed DRX kinetics equations and the established grain-growth model can be well used for describing the microstructure evolution. Hot deformation behavior and microstructure evolution of stress and stress‐free aged NiCrNbMoTi alloy are investigated by hot compressive tests. The impacts of stress aging upon the flow softening and dynamic recrystallization (DRX) behavior are analyzed. Also, the variations of dislocation substructures are studied. The basket‐weave δ‐phases induced by stress‐aging pretreatment can refine grains during hot deformation. On the one hand, the basket‐weave δ‐phases mutually intersect and form some enclosure spaces. Then, the dislocations which are restrained in these enclosure spaces can increase the potential sites for DRX nucleation. On the other hand, the growth of DRX grain is significantly hindered by the basket‐weave δ‐phases. The peak stress increases substantially as the stress‐aging stress rises. The dislocations pinned near the basket‐weave δ‐phases can hinder the migration of grain boundaries and accelerate the DRX process during hot deformation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Oxidase‐mimicking nanozymes are more desirable than peroxidase‐mimicking ones since H2O2 can be omitted. However, only a few nanomaterials are known for oxidase‐like activities. In this work, we compared the activity of Mn2O3, Mn3O4 and MnO2 and found that Mn2O3 had the highest oxidase activity. Interestingly, the activity of Mn2O3 was even inhibited by H2O2. The oxidase‐like activity of Mn2O3 was not much affected by the presence of proteins such as bovine serum albumin (BSA), but the physisorption of antibodies to Mn2O3 was not strong enough to withstand the displacement by BSA. We then treated Mn2O3 with 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane to graft an amine group, which was used to conjugate antibodies using glutaraldehyde as a crosslinker. A one‐step indirect competitive ELISA (icELISA) was developed for the detection of isocarbophos, and an IC50 of 261.7 ng/mL was obtained, comparable with the results of the standard two‐step assay using horseradish peroxidase (HRP)‐labeled antibodies. This assay has the advantage of significant timesaving for rapid detection of large amounts of samples. Having the benefits of low cost, excellent stability and tolerance to extreme conditions, nanozymes are a potential alternative of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) or other enzymes for bioanalytical chemistry, especially immunoassays. CeO2 nanoparticles have oxidase-mimicking activity and can avoid the use of unstable H2O2. For robust assays, the effect of proteins on the activity of CeO2 needs to be carefully studied. Herein, we studied the adsorption and desorption of bovine serum albumin (BSA) from CeO2. The CeO2 nanoparticles exhibited a higher protein adsorption capacity compared to the other tested metal oxide nanoparticles. Although the oxidase-like activity of CeO2 was inhibited by BSA, low concentrations of phosphate and fluoride ions boosted the activity of protein-capped CeO2. CeO2 was still active under strong acidic conditions and at high temperature, while HRP lost its activity. For immunoassay development, we covered CeO2 with an amine-modified silane for covalent conjugation to antibodies. A one-step indirect competitive ELISA for fenitrothion was developed, and an IC50 value of 35.6 ng mL−1 and a limit of detection of 2.1 ng mL−1 were obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is one of the main causes for the failure of joint arthroplasty. In view of the limited clinical effect of oral/injectable antibiotics and the drug resistance problem, there is a pressing need to develop antibacterial implants with therapeutic antimicrobial properties. In this work, we prepared a highly antibacterial ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) implant by incorporating tea polyphenols. The presence of tea polyphenols not only improved the oxidation stability of irradiated UHMWPE, but also gave it the desirable antibacterial property. The potent antibacterial activity was attributed to the tea polyphenols that produced excess intracellular reactive oxygen species and destroyed the bacterial membrane structure. The tea polyphenol-blended UHMWPE had no biological toxicity to human adipose-derived stem cells and effectively reduced bacteria-induced inflammation in vivo. These results indicate that tea polyphenol-blended UHMWPE is promising for joint replacement prostheses with multifunctionality to meet patient satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, the intensity distribution formula of the focused femtosecond (fs) laser beam is derived. MATLAB was used to establish the light intensity distribution model of the focused fs laser under the processing condition, and the light intensity of focused fs laser under different laser power was simulated. Then the fs laser processing platform was built. The glass was etched by fs laser, and the SU-8 photoresist was processed by fs laser two-photon polymerization (2PP). By adjusting the change of laser power, the etching and polymerization lines of different sizes are obtained. Based on the simulation results and experimental results, the estimated etching threshold of the glass using the fs laser is 5.096 6×1016 W/m2, and the estimated processing threshold of SU-8 photoresist by 2PP using the fs laser is 1.194 2×1014 W/m2. In order to investigate the effect of different perforation angles (the angle between the perforation direction and the maximum horizontal principal stress which is also called the preferred fracture plane (PFP)) on the fracture initiation and propagation during the hydraulic fracturing of highly deviated well, laboratory experiments of the hydraulic fracturing of the BZ25-1 oilfield had been carried out on the basis of non-dimensional similar criteria by using 400mm3 cement cubes. We built the geometric model of the hydraulic fracturing fractures which considered the influences of the wellbore azimuth (the angle between the wellbore axis and the PFP), the perforation angle and the well deviation. The results showed that: the perforations in the PFP produce plane fracture; the fractures initiate from the perforations at the upper side of the well hole and then turn to the PFP when the perforation angle is 45°; when the well deviation angle and the perforation angle are both larger than 45°, the fracture initiates difficultly from the perforations at the lower side of the well hole, and multi-fractures easily initiate; when the perforation angle is 90°, multi-fractures initiate, such as twisting fracture, plane fracture, horizontal fracture and T-shape fracture, in addition, the fracture cannot initiate from the perforation tunnels; the larger the well deviation angle is, the easier is the multi-fractures initiation. Moreover, it is easier to result in micro-annulus which makes the fractures more complicated during the hydraulic fracturing of highly deviated well when the perforation angle is not along with the PFP. In this work, a two-photon polymerization (2PP) processing device was built using the femtosecond laser, and femtosecond laser direct writing was performed on SU-8 photoresist. Due to the 2PP effect of the photoresist caused by the femtosecond laser, the polymeric line with size less than the focal spot size is obtained. Based on the Raman spectroscopy characterization of SU-8 polymer before and after 2PP, we research the dynamic process of femtosecond laser induced 2PP. In Raman spectra, some scattering peaks with large intensity variation, such as 1 108 cm and 1 183 cm, indicate that the asymmetric stretching vibration of C-O-C bond in SU-8 polymer is increased. By comparison, we can find that 2PP only affects the light absorption of initiator, but does not affect the monomer polymerization. It is helpful to understand the interaction of photoresist and femtosecond laser, and plays an important role in quantitatively controlling the polymerization degree of SU-8 polymer and improving the processing resolution of 2PP.1 [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Veratrum oxysepalum Turcz. is a medicinal plant belonging to Melanthiaceae occurring in Northeast China. However, there are still limited genomic resources available for genus Veratrum. The complete chloroplast (cp) genome of V. oxysepalum was determined and analyzed in this study. The complete cp genome was 153,705 bp. That contains a large single copy (LSC) region of 83,384 bp, a small single copy (SSC) region of 17,607 bp, which were separated by a pair of 26,358 bp inverted repeat regions (IRs). A total of 135 genes were annotated, including 83 protein-coding genes, 38 tRNAs, and eight rRNAs. Phylogenetic analysis using total chloroplast genome sequence of 21 species revealed that V. oxysepalum was closely relates to V. patulum of Veratrum with 100% bootstrap value. Aristolochic acid (AA) toxicity has been shown in humans regarding carcinogenesis, nephrotoxicity, and mutagenicity. Monitoring the AA content in drug homologous and healthy foods is necessary for the health of humans. In this study, a monoclonal antibody (mAb) with high sensitivity for aristolochic acid I (AA-I) was prepared. Based on the obtained mAb, a chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLEIA) against AA-I was developed, which showed the 50% decrease in the RLUmax (IC50) value of 1.8 ng/mL and the limit of detection (LOD) of 0.4 ng/mL. Carbon dots with red emission at 620 nm, namely rCDs, were synthesized and employed in conventional indirect competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (icELISA) to improve the assay sensitivity of a fluoroimmunoassay (FIA). Oxidized 3,3′′,5,5′′-tetramethylbenzidine dihydrochloride (oxTMB) can quench the emission of the rCDs through the inner-filter effect; therefore, the fluorescence intensity of rCDs can be regulated by the concentration of mAb. As a result, the assay sensitivity of FIA was improved by five-fold compared to CLEIA. A good relationship between the results of the proposed assays and the standard ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (UPLC-QQQ-MS/MS) of real samples indicated good accuracy and practicability of CLEIA and FIA. The microstructural variation and high-temperature flow features of a Ti-55511 alloy in the β region are studied by utilizing double-stage compression with a stepped strain rate. The results demonstrate that the stresses in the latter stage of hot compression markedly reduce as the strain at the previous stage or the strain rate at the previous/latter stage drops. Moreover, the annihilation/interaction of substructures is promoted, and the distinct refinement of the dynamic recrystallization (DRX) in the β grain can be found. However, the coarsening of the β grain and the consumption of dislocation substructures are accelerated at high temperatures. Furthermore, the principal DRX nucleation mechanism of the Ti-55511 alloy during double-stage compression with a stepped strain rate in the β region is discontinuous DRX. Additionally, by using the microstructural variation characteristics related to the forming parameters, a physical mechanism equation is modeled to forecast the forming features, the DRX fraction, and the size of the β grain in the investigated alloy. The forecasted results are in accordance with the tested results, indicating that the established model can accurately forecast the microstructure variation and flow features of the studied alloy. Immunoassay for pesticides is an emerging analytical method since it is rapid, efficient, sensitive, and inexpensive. In this study, a recombinant antigen-binding fragment (Fab) against a broad set of O,O-diethyl organophosphorus pesticides (DOPs) was produced and characterized. The κ chain and Fd fragment were amplified via PCR and inserted into the vector pComb3XSS and the soluble Fab on phagemid pComb3XSS was induced by isopropyl β-d-thiogalactoside in E. coli TOP 10F’. SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, and indirect competitive ELISA results indicated that Fab maintained the good characteristics of the parental mAb. To better understand antibody recognition, the three-dimensional (3D) model of Fab was built via homologous modeling and the interaction between Fab and DOPs was studied via molecular docking and dynamics simulations. The model clearly explained the interaction manner of Fab and DOPs, and showed that the Arg-L96 and Arg-H52 were mainly responsible for antibody binding.
