Introduction: The growing ability to provide online services has enabled the proliferation of exercise-based telehealth interventions; however, adoption in older adults may be impacted by low digital literacy and "technophobia." Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore the experience of community and aged-care dwelling older adults following exercise-based telehealth services to provide insights that could guide future telehealth exercise delivery. Design: Semi-structured interviews for qualitative analysis. Methods: Participants (age ≥60) who had completed at least one online exercise session from a registered health professional were recruited through a combination of purposeful and snowball sampling methods via their exercise facility or provider. A semi-structured interview guide was used by 2 interviewers to investigate participants' experiences and a "critical friends" approach used to identify common themes. Results: Thirteen interviews with 21 participants were conducted from 2 different facilities. Analysis identified meaning units within 3 themes and subthemes. Technology subthemes related to digital confidence prior to telehealth and changes during interventions, as well as the usability of technology for telehealth. Clinical practice subthemes described the different motivations to exercise, perceived benefits of telehealth, important implications for practitioners, and perceptions of safety. The social connection theme related to the social benefits of telehealth. Conclusions: Older adults in our sample were technologically confident and capable of performing exercise sessions delivered via telehealth. This paper demonstrates the importance and role of authentic assessments, that replicate industry practice, within Higher Education marketing programmes. We answer the call from employers, that students need to gain much-needed employability skills, and we illustrate how such assessments can be created to enable the development of employability skills. We provide an overview of four case studies, to illustrate different forms of authentic assessments, the theory which was used to underpin the designs, the skills developed during the assessments, and the outcomes of the assessments. As we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced a move to online assessments, it is timely that we reflect on the value of authentic assessments and adjust our practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Digital literacy is vital in the 21st century teaching and learning in order to create a meaningful educative process for both teachers and students. Also, it is a necessity to adapt in this fast-changing digital age. This study seeks to determine the level of digital literacy skills that teachers need, as well as the level of digital literacy skills among science teachers in public secondary schools and how these abilities relate to gender, age, experience as a teacher, and educational attainment. This study utilized quantitative descriptive survey design which addressed the purpose of this study. The target respondents were the 50 public high school science teachers in select schools in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Oriental. Complete enumeration was the sampling technique used. An ACDC (Analysis of Common Digital Competences) questionnaire was utilized abilities to measure how respondents perceived their own digital competencies. It was adapted from Sanchez-Cruzado, et., al (2021) and was based on the European Commission's (EC) DigiComp framework for citizens' digital competencies. It comprised of five (5) digital skills: Information and information literacy, Communication and collaboration, Creation of digital Content, Security and Problem resolution. The inventory questionnaire consists of 47 Likert-scale items (4 = very high, 3 = high, 2 = low, 1 = very low) consisting of 8 items for Information and information literacy, 7 items for Communication and collaboration, 14 items for Creation of digital Content, 6 items for Security and 12 items for Problem resolution. To test the reliability, Cronbach alpha was administered with the result of 0.94. The results show that the overall Digital literacy level of science teachers in select schools in Iligan city division is "Fair". The development of 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy, significantly enhances the academic performance of senior high school students by equipping them with the essential tools to navigate and excel in a rapidly evolving educational landscape. Along this line, this study determined the level of 21st-century skills and academic performance among senior high school learners in the Alicia District, Bohol Division, for the school year 2018-2019 The research employed a descriptive correlational design, involving 205 senior high school learners from four schools in the district. Data were collected using a modified questionnaire based on Jason Ravitz's tool for measuring 21st-century teaching and learning, which assessed students' acquisition of skills in four dimensions: Core Subjects and 21st-century themes, Learning and Innovation Skills, Life and Career Skills, and Information, Media, and Technology Skills. Academic performance data were obtained from school officials. The findings revealed that the majority of students achieved a Very Satisfactory academic performance, with a mean score of 86.46. Respondents demonstrated moderate proficiency across all dimensions of 21st-century skills, with an overall mean score of 2.72. Life and Career Skills had the highest composite mean (2.83), followed by Learning and Innovation Skills (2.76), Information, Media, and Technology Skills (2.75), and Core Subjects and 21st-century themes (2.53). A weak but statistically significant positive correlation (r = 0.2485, p < 0.05) was found between 21st-century skills and academic performance, suggesting that as students' proficiency in these skills increases, their academic performance tends to improve modestly. Objectives: Digital literacy is increasingly crucial in pharmacy practice, and relevant education and training are required to prepare the future workforce. This study aims to explore the current and planned inclusion of digital literacy education in the undergraduate curricula of UK pharmacy schools. Methods: A mixed-methods approach was conducted with two phases. The first involved a content analysis of published curricula from all 30 UK pharmacy schools. The second phase included a survey based on the Health Education England Digital Capabilities Framework, distributed to academic staff across all pharmacy schools. Key findings: Data from 14 pharmacy schools' curricula were included in the analysis, with 10 reporting digital literacy education. Key themes identified from the analysed documents included understanding of health informatics, applied informatics, information technology skills, and the emerging digital health technology. Nineteen respondents from 16 schools participated in the survey; digital literacy inclusion was reported by 18 participants. There was variable alignment of digital literacy competencies with the Health Education England framework. Digital literacy was mainly integrated into existing teaching sessions, predominantly through self-learning (n = 12). Electronic Health Records and remote counselling were the main focus areas within the curricula. Challenges in implementing digital literacy include a lack of expertise (n = 13), and time constraints (n = 10). Conclusions: The trend towards embedding digital literacy in UK pharmacy curricula is clear, but disparities suggest the need for a more unified strategy. Recommendations include establishing a specific digital literacy framework aligned with professional needs, improving accessibility and transparency in curricula documents, and investing in faculty development. Purpose: Patient-report outcome measures (PROMs) have gained widespread support as a mechanism to improve healthcare quality. We aimed to map out key enablers and barriers influencing PROMs implementation strategies in routine clinical practice. Methods: An umbrella review was conducted to identify reviews exploring enablers and barriers related to the integration of PROMs in routine clinical practice from January 2000 to June 2023. Information on key enablers and barriers was extracted and summarised thematically according to the Theoretical Domains Framework. Results: 34 reviews met our criteria for inclusion. Identified reviews highlighted barriers such as limited PROMs awareness among clinicians and patients, perceived low value by clinicians and patients, PROMs that were too complex or difficult for patients to complete, poor usability of PROMs systems, delayed feedback of PROMs data, clinician concerns related to use of PROMs as a performance management tool, patient concerns regarding privacy and security, and resource constraints. Enablers encompassed phased implementation, professional training, stakeholder engagement prior to implementation, clear strategies and goals, 'change champions' to support PROMs implementation, systems to respond to issues raised by PROMs, and integration into patient pathways. No consensus favoured paper or electronic PROMs, yet offering both options to mitigate digital literacy bias and integrating PROMs into electronic health records emerged as important facilitators. Conclusions: The sustainable implementation of PROMs is a complex process that requires multicomponent organisational strategies covering training and guidance, necessary time and resources, roles and responsibilities, and consultation with patients and clinicians. Digital technology, including advancements in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and data analytics, has the potential to revolutionize tackling the problem of carbon dioxide emissions and achieving sustainable development. The paper aims at checking the nature of the impact of digital technology development on carbon dioxide reduction for the EU countries in 2013–2020. The study applies the following methods: entropy methods, panel‐corrected standard error, and feasible generalized least squares. The digital technology development index enabled the classification of all the EU countries into two distinct groups: High Digital Technology Development and Moderate/Lower Digital Technology Development. The findings confirm that digital technology development has a significant impact on decreasing carbon dioxide emissions. In the first stage, the growth of digital technology causes a faster decrease in carbon dioxide emissions. However, beyond a certain threshold, the further improvement of digital technology results in diminishing marginal benefits of CO2 emissions reduction. Thus, the EU government should catalyze the extension of digital technologies among all sectors and levels. In addition, it requires enhancing digital literacy of the society and local authorities. It is essential for students, both inside and outside the business school, to learn business information literacy skills to make -evidence-based decisions. To address this need, faculty from a large public university developed a competitive intelligence digital module using micro-learning and micro-credentialing concepts designed to be scalable for use in many disciplinary areas. During the pilot, students in a first-year Management course and a senior capstone Engineering Technology course were surveyed to determine their perceptions of the content's utility and usability. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in greater use of remote patient monitoring (RPM). However, the use of RPM has been modest compared to other forms of telehealth. Objective: To identify and describe barriers to the implementation of RPM among primary care physicians (PCPs) that may be constraining its growth. Design: We conducted 20 semi-structured interviews with PCPs across the USA who adopted RPM. Interview questions focused on implementation facilitators and barriers and RPM's impact on quality. We conducted thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews using both inductive and deductive approaches. The analysis was informed by the NASSS (non-adoption and abandonment and challenges to scale-up, spread, and sustainability) framework. Participants: PCPs who practiced at least 10 h per week in an outpatient setting, served adults, and monitored blood pressure and/or blood glucose levels with automatic transmission of data with at least 3 patients. Key Results: While PCPs generally agreed that RPM improved quality of care for their patients, many identified barriers to adoption and maintenance of RPM programs. Challenges included difficulties handling the influx of data and establishing a manageable workflow, along with digital and health literacy barriers. In addition to these barriers, many PCPs did not believe RPM was profitable. Conclusions: To encourage ongoing growth of RPM, it will be necessary to address implementation barriers through changes in payment policy, training and education in digital and health literacy, improvements in staff roles and workflows, and new strategies to ensure equitable access. Among the challenges of the aquaculture sector, the present study tries to focus on the necessary modernisation and innovation of the Hungarian sector education by strategically outlining the possibility of a niche secondary-level fisheries PILOT (experimental) training. It is obvious that the "launching" of such a shortage training level is a very complex and long-term task, but in our opinion not unfeasible. To this end, we are considering the development of a multi-stage action plan, the first milestone of which will be a thorough situation survey of the aquaculture education community. The study applies a deductive approach to specific areas of education and training within the general trends in aquaculture, covering the main traces of PILOT training in fisheries as a niche discipline. Our first paper, targeted at educators, focuses on the results of a questionnaire survey of 94 educators. Our main objective was to assess the presence of aquaculture-related knowledge content and associated methodologies in the classroom and the general digital literacy of educators. Our objectives also focus on the general digital readiness of vocational trainers and on the patterns of "professional marketing" opportunities that aquaculture professionals can express. Based on the AMO theory framework, this study employs structural equation modeling to empirically analyze 226 questionnaires collected from three villages in Guizhou Province: Zhaoxing Dong Village, Xijiang Miao Village, and Basha Miao Village. The study investigates the influence of digital penetration on villagers' entrepreneurial behavior tendencies in tourism and specifically discusses the mediating effects of digital literacy, entrepreneurial passion, and social network relationships. The results indicate that (1) digital penetration has a direct positive impact on villagers' entrepreneurial behavior tendencies in tourism, and (2) digital literacy, entrepreneurial passion, and social network relationships serve as positive mediators in the relationship between digital penetration and villagers' entrepreneurial behavior tendencies in tourism, functioning as capability, motivation, and opportunity factors, respectively. Based on these findings, this study proposes an implementation path to stimulate villagers' entrepreneurial vitality in the context of digital rural strategies. Suggestions include improving rural basic network infrastructure, actively conducting skills training, inspiring villagers' entrepreneurial enthusiasm, and guiding them to establish social network relationships. In the contemporary era, digital literacy has become an inescapable imperative, and university students are part of the generation that has grown up immersed in the digital world. The objective was to analyze the culture of digital literacy in students. A descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study was followed, the sample was 320 students, resulting in a good attitude towards technologies due to the familiarity of their use. Automation of surveillance of infectious diseases—where algorithms are applied to routine care data to replace manual decisions—likely reduces workload and improves quality of surveillance. However, various barriers limit large-scale implementation of automated surveillance (AS). Current implementation strategies for AS in surveillance networks include central implementation (i.e. collecting all data centrally, and central algorithm application for case ascertainment) or local implementation (i.e. local algorithm application and sharing surveillance results with the network coordinating center). In this perspective, we explore whether current challenges can be solved by federated AS. In federated AS, scripts for analyses are developed centrally and applied locally. We focus on the potential of federated AS in the context of healthcare associated infections (AS-HAI) and of severe acute respiratory illness (AS-SARI). AS-HAI and AS-SARI have common and specific requirements, but both would benefit from decreased local surveillance burden, alignment of AS and increased central and local oversight, and improved access to data while preserving privacy. Federated AS combines some benefits of a centrally implemented system, such as standardization and alignment of an easily scalable methodology, with some of the benefits of a locally implemented system including (near) real-time access to data and flexibility in algorithms, meeting different information needs and improving sustainability, and allowance of a broader range of clinically relevant case-definitions. From a global perspective, it can promote the development of automated surveillance where it is not currently possible and foster international collaboration.The necessary transformation of source data likely will place a significant burden on healthcare facilities. However, this may be outweighed by the potential benefits: improved comparability of surveillance results, flexibility and reuse of data for multiple purposes. Governance and stakeholder agreement to address accuracy, accountability, transparency, digital literacy, and data protection, warrants clear attention to create acceptance of the methodology. In conclusion, federated automated surveillance seems a potential solution for current barriers of large-scale implementation of AS-HAI and AS-SARI. Prerequisites for successful implementation include validation of results and evaluation requirements of network participants to govern understanding and acceptance of the methodology. Background: eHealth may help closing gaps in the long-term follow-up care of former young age cancer patients. While its introduction to medical aftercare appears promising, it also faces obstacles in the course of its implementation. This study explored what prospective eHealth applications have to achieve and what facilitating and hindering factors are associated with the implementation of them. Methods: A qualitative, explorative-descriptive design involving semi-structured interviews was used in this study. General practitioners (GPs) from urban and rural areas as well as former cancer patients were recruited and interviewed. The interview guide focused on expectations of telemedical care services for the patient group of children and adolescents as well as potential facilitating and hindering factors of the implementation of telemedical care services for former cancer patients. Interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed on the basis of qualitative content analysis as described by Kuckartz. Results: Empiric saturation was reached after 25 interviews, respectively. The age of the physicians surveyed at the time of the interviews ranged from 27 to 71 years, with an average of 42 years. The former patients ranged in age from 21 to 43 at the time of participation, with an average age of 34. The age at diagnosis ranged from 3 to 31 years. eHealth services were considered an effective way to maintain continuity of care and improve the health literacy of cancer survivors. Cooperation with health insurance companies and gamification-elements were regarded as beneficial for the introduction of eHealth structures. Poor interface compatibility, insufficient network coverage and lack of digital literacy were valued as potential barriers. Conclusions: If properly introduced, eHealth shows the potential to provide stakeholders with tools that increase their self-efficacy and ability to act. In today's technologically advanced era, personal financial competence is critical for successful living, particularly as individuals face increasing complexities in financial decision-making. This study explores the impact of personal financial education on financial management behavior, digital financial misconceptions, and parental well-being among Generation Z in Indonesia. This quantitative study employed Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze data from 1,843 high school students across Indonesia. The study focused on the relationships between personal financial education, financial management behavior, digital financial misconceptions, and parental well-being. Data were collected through a cross-sectional survey, with instruments designed to measure each of the key variables. The findings reveal that personal financial education significantly influences financial management behavior, which in turn impacts digital financial misconceptions and parental well-being. Moreover, personal financial education directly affects both digital financial misconceptions and parental well-being, with strong indirect effects mediated through financial management behavior. The results underscore the importance of integrating comprehensive financial education into school curricula to enhance financial literacy and management behaviors. By improving financial management skills and reducing digital financial misconceptions, personal financial education can contribute to better financial outcomes and overall well-being for students and their families. This study highlights the need for educational programs that address the specific challenges posed by digital finance, ensuring that Generation Z is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of modern financial environments. Smoking is a leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality globally. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Smoking Cessation (SC) services faced many challenges, including lockdown and social distancing restrictions. Consequently, SC services had to adapt to the challenges in different ways or halt delivery. This research evaluated the impact of COVID-19 on the delivery and outcomes of SC services. This was achieved by comparing service delivery and outcomes pre-COVID-19 and during the pandemic and drawing insights for the delivery of SC services post-pandemic. Secondary analysis was performed on the data of 11,533 participants who attended the One Life Suffolk (OLS) SC services pre- and during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 4923 and 6610 participants attended SC services pre-COVID-19 and during COVID-19 respectively. Fifty-four percent of participants achieved quit status at week-4 while attending the SC services during the COVID-19 pandemic, compared with 46% pre-COVID-19, (X2(1) = 38.2, p-value<0.001). Participants who attended the SC services during the COVID-19 period were 1.7 times more likely to achieve quit status at week-4 than pre-COVID-19. However, the proportion of participants lost-to-follow-up (LTF) was significantly higher during the COVID-19 period (11%) compared to pre-COVID-19 (7%), (X2(1) = 51.4, p-value <0.001). There was an increased participation and quit rate during the pandemic for modified, remotely delivered SC services indicating successful delivery of remote services during the pandemic. Although switching from face-to-face to online helped some smokers to access the service at a time of motivational readiness, despite the COVID-19 restrictions, some smokers could not access or use some aspects of the remote delivery due to a lack of internet access, poor digital literacy, no peer support and no commitment to a group during face-to-face sessions, contributing to an increased rate of LTF. Posing a major challenge to SC services delivery, COVID-19 compelled OLS SC services to adapt and be more innovative in their delivery. SC services need to continue to evolve and adapt by applying the lessons learnt during the pandemic in terms of flexibility and person-centered delivery given what did and did not work well for different demographics within the population. This paper presents the results of a systematic literature review of academic publications about digital literacy games. We have analyzed a total of 30 papers and book chapters published in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch between 2005 and 2021 and stored in Scopus. The results of this literature review report on: (1) the topics of the games discussed in the publications; (2) the digital literacy competencies supported by the games studied in the publications; (3) the effects of these games; and (4) ten game design considerations for digital literacy games collected from the results of the publications. Background: The pervasive use of smartphones among adolescents has raised concerns about addiction and its impact on mental well-being. This study investigates the prevalence of smartphone addiction and its associations with socio-demographic factors, parenting styles, and mental health among Indian adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 560 school-going adolescents (aged 15–19) in Gujarat, India, from January to October 2023. Data was collected using validated scales: the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV), the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ), and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21). Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with smartphone addiction. Results: The prevalence of smartphone addiction was 64.6%. Urban residence (AOR: 2.4, 95% CI: 1.8–3.3), higher parental education (AOR: 3.3, 95% CI: 1.7–4.3 for graduate fathers), longer smartphone use (AOR: 2.08, 95% CI: 1.7–3.6 for > 3 years), and higher socioeconomic status (AOR: 1.9, 95% CI: 1.5–3.51) were associated with increased odds of addiction. Authoritarian and permissive parenting styles in both parents were positively associated with smartphone addiction, while authoritative parenting was negatively associated. Smartphone addiction was strongly associated with mental health issues, particularly with severe stress (AOR: 10.82, 95% CI: 5.11–22.88, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Smartphone addiction is highly prevalent among Indian adolescents and is significantly associated with urban living, higher socioeconomic status, non-authoritative parenting styles, and poor mental health. These findings underscore the need for digital literacy programs, parenting interventions promoting authoritative styles, and mental health support to foster healthy smartphone use among adolescents. Digital technology is shaping our traditional agriculture in unprecedented ways. As a new engine to empower farmers and promote common prosperity in rural areas, the development of the digital economy can help revitalize rural industries, providing strong support for increasing industrial value-added income and farmers' income levels. Based on 676 pooled cross-section data of high-quality farmers in China Guangdong Province from 2020–2021, the article empirically examines the impact of digital technology adoption on the production and business income of high-quality farmers and explores its mechanism of action, based on theoretical analysis and using the ERM model. It is found that the use of digital technology helps to increase the income of high quality farmers in production and business, but effects vary for different income levels and different types of high quality farmers. In addition, tests of the mechanism of action suggest that the introduction of digital technologies can mitigate the negative impact of market distance on the income of high quality farmers in production and business. After applying variable substitution, model replacement, and propensity score matching (PSM) for robustness checks, the research findings still hold true. Therefore, efforts should be made to speed up the upgrading of rural digital technology and other infrastructure, increase training for high quality farmers to improve their digital literacy through multiple channels, for the better marketing of agricultural products. This study analyzed the effects of digital literacy on life satisfaction in older adults aged 65 years and above in modern day Korea. It utilized raw data from the 2019–2022 Report on the Digital Divide, an annual survey conducted by the Korean Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology. A total of 4,216 participants were assessed from 2019–2022. Correlation between digital literacy and life satisfaction was analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis and polynomial linear regression analysis. Life satisfaction was significantly positively correlated with digital access, digital competency, and digital utilization in all the years. In 2019, participants' life satisfaction score rose significantly by 0.15 with every one-point increase in digital competency. It further rose by 0.035 in 2020, 0.030 in 2021, and 0.116 in 2022. Digital literacy was consistently positively correlated with life satisfaction in each year from 2019–2022. Of the three main elements, digital competency had the strongest impact and digital information, income, and education level also significantly impacted life satisfaction. While digital competency improved steadily from 2019 to 2022, it remains below 50% for Korea's older adult population. However, we argue that the concept of "digital literacy" cannot usefully be applied to all internet users; there is simply too much heterogeneity across devices, platforms, and social contexts. We conduct surveys in Mexico and Colombia to understand how these people use the internet. We find that WhatsApp is by far the dominant platform across all sectors of society. In contrast to evidence from the US, we find that education is a better predictor of two measures of digital literacy than is age. We then conduct a survey experiment to test how people understand news shared on WhatsApp. We find that the inclusion of a link to source material increases respondents' trust in a message shared on WhatsApp, but that the platform-supplied note that a message has been shared many times has no such effect. This research is a qualitative study which aims to measure the level of awareness of teenagers in Tuntungan I village regarding the importance of digital literacy in utilizing social media as a learning medium, and to analyze teenagers' dependence on social media which can influence the effectiveness of learning. The research was carried out from 03 to 13 June 2024 in Tuntungan I Village, Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. Data collection techniques use interview techniques and questionnaires. The number of samples taken was 30 teenagers who were classified based on their age level. The research results obtained were that teenagers in Tuntungan I Village had demonstrated proficiency in using digital media, such as PowerPoint and Infocus, to present discussion results. This reflects their skills in supporting technology as an important learning tool in the school environment. The social media platforms that are often used by teenagers in Tuntungan I Village to search for information are YouTube and Instagram. The information seeking skills of teenagers in Tuntungan I village show significant dependence on social media as a source of information. From the results of calculations with respondents, 87.3% of teenagers actively use this platform for the purpose of seeking information. Students with hearing impairments have limited vocabulary which affects communication and reading comprehension. Visual media greatly helps students with hearing impairments in the process of understanding text. Interactive video is a moving visual media accompanied by text, links, questions, and discussions. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of interactive videos on digital literacy of students with hearing impairments. This study is pre-experimental study in one group, due to the limited research subjects, namely students with hearing impairments. The research design used one group pre-test posttest with 13 students with hearing impairments in special high schools as participants. The research subjects were given treatment in the form of the use of interactive videos for three weeks, before the treatment their digital literacy was measured and the following week it was measured again using a digital literacy questionnaire on a likert scale. The data analysis technique used in this study was to compare the pretest and posttest scores with N-Gain. The results of data analysis obtained a mean of .7231 which can be concluded that interactive videos are very effective for student with hearing impairment towards digital literacy. Background: In the digital era, SMEs must adapt to technological advancements to remain competitive. Digital literacy is increasingly recognized as a crucial factor in enhancing entrepreneurial skills and business performance. Purpose: The aim is to uncover how improving digital literacy can lead to better business outcomes for SMEs. Design/methodology/approach: The research targeted 101 SMEs from manufacturing and trade sectors in the Greater Solo area. Data were collected through online surveys and offline methods. Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) was used to test the hypotheses. Findings/Result: The study found that digital literacy positively affects the development of entrepreneurial skills, which in turn enhances business performance. Performance was measured through revenue growth, profitability, market share, and customer satisfaction. Digital literacy is a key driver of entrepreneurial skills development and improved business performance in SMEs. Investing in digital literacy can significantly enhance SMEs' competitive edge and overall success. Conclusion: The research concludes that digital technology is vital for improving SMEs' performance and competitiveness by expanding market access, attracting customers, and increasing sales. Additionally, digital literacy is crucial for enhancing operational efficiency, product and service innovation, and customer communication. Background: The digital economy is expanding at an unprecedented pace worldwide, transforming industries and creating new business models. However, the adoption of digital technologies and digital business models in rural and township areas in developing countries faces numerous constraints given their contextual nuances. Purpose: This study examined the constraints, challenges and opportunities for digital business in the rural, and township economy in South Africa. Design/methodology/approach: The study employed a mixed-methods approach incorporating questionnaires and focused group discussions. The study area was two villages in Limpopo and two townships in Gauteng. Findings/Result: The study findings indicate that challenges and constraints that hinder the successful adoption and implementation of digital business in South Africa were: limited access to internet connectivity, inadequate digital infrastructure, limited digital literacy and skills, insufficient financial resources for investment in digital technologies, restricted access to affordable logistics and delivery services, concerns regarding trust and security in online transactions, competition with traditional businesses, limited access to funding for entrepreneurs, and cultural and language diversity barriers. Conclusion: Considering these findings, the research presents a set of recommendations to address these constraints and maximize the opportunities offered by digital businesses in rural and township areas contributing to the broader development goals of the nation. AI-based service usage can be expanded if individuals perceive that they have the ability to control vulnerabilities and risks (e.g. data leakage, inaccurate information) associated with these technologies. Additionally, the issues of trust in AI and user privacy protection are key discussions in the implementation of e-government services. Accordingly, this study empirically verified the influence of individuals' online skills, trust in AI, and privacy-protective behaviour on their AI-based service usage. The dataset comprised 48,420 respondents aged 14–90 who were part of a South Korean survey on Internet usage in 2021. The main findings are as follows. First, trust in AI and privacy-protective behaviour positively impact AI-based service usage. Second, online skills do not impact AI-based service usage significantly. These findings offer implications for improving technical issues related to privacy protection and inaccurate information; they can also be used to inform efforts to bridge the digital divide in AI-based service usage. By empirically verifying the impact of an individual's vulnerability control behaviour and digital service utilisation ability in the use of AI-based services, this study suggests developing AI-based services with user trust in mind and implementing smart government policies. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, many community engagement efforts were moved exclusively online. Robust community engagement practices are vital to ensure equitable, inclusive stormwater management and infrastructure decision-making, and the impact of this online shift on community access, representation, and quality of interaction and feedback is not well understood. While in-person community engagement as currently practiced in stormwater management poses several challenges, including achieving representative participation by the target community, cost and time barriers, limited training of on-the-ground facilitators, and the lack of standardization and assessment methods, the challenges, advantages, and best practices of community engagement in online settings are unknown. The need to understand these aspects of online community engagement became more urgent as a result of the rapid and unanticipated shift to online approaches during the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper provides an exploration of the advantages, challenges, and opportunities of online community engagement through a thematic analysis of interviews conducted with 10 facilitators of stormwater projects in the greater Houston, Texas region during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using qualitative thematic analysis, responses were coded into categories and then themes and subthemes based on frequency and salience. Key themes that characterize challenges include perceived access limitations (digital divide—physical), digital literacy (digital divide—cognitive), quality of interaction, community trust, and resistance to online formats. Online community engagement is likely to continue well beyond the pandemic. Therefore, designing community engagement programs with these challenges in mind is essential for building upon the advantages afforded by online tools. As found in this study, these include increased attendance, removal of transportation barriers and time conflicts, access to non-local experts, resilient communication strategies, organizational efficiencies, improved data collection, and expanded access to information and participation opportunities through recorded events posted online. Financial digitization is an irreversible phenomenon. The objective of this study is to construct the Digital Financial Capability Scale (DFCS). Starting with the development of a definition, we created a multidimensional scale composed of digital financial knowledge, digital financial behavior, and digital financial confidence. The validation process involved a qualitative stage, consisting of focus groups, expert validation, and pre-testing, and a quantitative stage, with exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and structural equation modeling. The DFCS assesses an individual's perception of their ability to apply financial knowledge, adopt appropriate financial behaviors, and feel confident in making financial decisions in a digital environment. The final version of the DFCS consists of a set of 33 items divided into the three dimensions. The scale can be very useful for researchers who wish to study financial capability in the digital environment, for financial agents to evaluate clients, and for assessing the outcomes of public policies aimed at enhancing the financial capability of the population. The exponential rise of Information and Communication Technology in recent years has brought e-payment systems to the forefront of businesses. Hence, several e-payment options have emerged for consumer and commercial transactions perspective. However, it has led to few challenges for consumer's decision making with respect to the adoption of e-payment system. Therefore, we developed and tested a model of e-payment adoption with respect to consumer empowerment theory. The study also examined the mediating role of consumer empowerment on the relationship between consumer digital awareness (CDA), consumer digital literacy (CDL), consumer digital engagement (CDE) and adoption of e-payment systems. We used a purposive sampling method to collect data from 390 techno savvy respondents from India who used digital payment services. The study found that CDA, CDL and CDE have positive effects on consumer empowerment. This result further partially mediated the relationship between its determinants and adoption intention of the e-payment systems. The findings contributed to the understanding of the dynamics of e-payment system adoption of consumers for developing countries, especially Indian consumers. This article showcases a speculative methodology for recreating interactions between a human and Google Search's Auto-Predict interface as conversations, to explore how AI-based systems are both persuasive and deeply personal. Using ethnomethodology tools and a symbolic interactionist lens, the paper presents three versions of a single Google search, each variation building a slightly different angle on the plausible utterances and interpersonal dynamics of the human and nonhuman partners. This thought experiment emerges from a decade of classroom-based digital literacy exercises with young adults, training them to analyze their lived experiences with digital media, algorithms, and devices. Transforming information exchanges into personal conversations provides a creative method for analyzing how relations are co-constructed in the granular processes of interaction, through which mutual intelligibility is built, meaning about the world is made, and identities are formed. Utilizing online surveys of 729 US and 469 Chinese respondents, this study examines the mediated relationships between age and misinformation via fear of missing out (FoMO) and digital literacy in two different cultures. Results suggest that senior citizens are uniquely vulnerable to misinformation as the victims, in that they are less likely to check on suspicious content and that they are also less motivated to share information online in general. In contrast, youngadults have a greater propensity to be the spreaders of misinformation if not made suspicious of the content due to their stronger motivations to share information online. FoMO and digital literacy significantly mediate the relationship between age and motivations to share information and the one between age and reactions to misinformation, respectively. Few studies have examined COVID disinformation in non-Western countries. Digitalisation of the welfare state has intensified in recent years, with burdens unevenly distributed between technology advocates and those receiving government income support. Putting in place processes where people needing social security must meet mandatory requirements of digital literacy and divert a significant amount of their small incomes to pay for expensive technologies such as computers, smartphones, and data plans comes at a cost. This article examines lived experiences of First Nations Cashless Debit Card (CDC) holders who experienced digitalisation of their social security payments. Under the CDC, a range of restrictions were placed on purchases, spending social security income came with stigma, technology troubles meant that income was less secure, and Indigenous peoples' autonomy was undermined. Literacy scholarship captures immigrant youth of color ethnoracial identity constructions through their digital literacy practices. Still, few studies examine how immigrant youth of African origin use digital literacy to navigate ethnoracial tensions and craft racialized identities. Drawing on raciolinguistic and postcolonial theory, this study extends and nuances existing scholarship by examining the digital literacy practices and ethnoracial identity formations of a 13-year-old Nigerian girl who migrated to the United States. Positioning my analysis within the intersection of race, language, and identity, I inquire: How does Isioma leverage digital literacies to navigate U.S. racialization and negotiate U.S. racial identity categories? Furthermore, how does Isioma employ digital literacies to construct and negotiate her ethnoracial identities? I employ a narrative analysis of home observations, semistructured interviews, and literacy artifacts. Findings illustrate how digital tools disrupt raciolinguistic perspectives against minoritized languages. Digital literacies also enable the preservation of ethnic identities and languages while influencing racialized and hybrid identity formation and narration in the physical world. Sustainable project management practices have garnered increasing attention in recent years. Consequently, in the age of digitalization and globalization, numerous studies extensively explore the relationship between digitalization and sustainable practice. While optimism abounds, there is insufficient research into how and what types of project managers effectively manage resources to enhance the sustainability of projects when stakeholders are engaged. Therefore, we aim to address this gap by analyzing a sample of 211 Chinese project managers involved in the China‐Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Our findings indicate that project managers with digital literacy and experience are effective at managing existing resources to promote sustainable project management practices, while project managers with financial literacy do not directly exhibit sustainable practices. Furthermore, digitally literate managers are more likely to engage in bricolage (effective resource management), whereas experienced project managers are less likely to do so in the presence of stakeholder engagement. Moreover, stakeholder engagement does not appear to moderate the relationship between project manager financial literacy and bricolage. Based on these findings, our research recommends that organizations focus on employing digitally literate and experienced project managers to effectively manage their limited resources for sustainable project management. As the global population ages, understanding the digital health behaviors of older adults becomes increasingly crucial. In Thailand, where the elderly population is rapidly growing, examining how older individuals use the internet for health-related purposes can provide valuable insights for enhancing healthcare accessibility and engagement. This study investigates the use of the internet for health-related purposes among older adults in Thailand, focusing on the socio-demographic factors influencing this behavior. Utilizing cross-sectional data from the "Thailand Internet User Behavior Survey 2022", which includes responses from 4652 older adults, the study employs descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression analysis. The results reveal that approximately 10.83% of older adults use the internet for health purposes. The analysis shows that higher income (AOR = 1.298, p = 0.030), higher level of education (degree education: AOR = 1.814, p < 0.001), skilled occupations (AOR = 2.003, p < 0.001), residence in an urban area (AOR = 3.006, p < 0.001), and greater confidence in internet use (very confident: AOR = 3.153, p < 0.001) are significantly associated with a greater likelihood of using the internet for health purposes. Gender and age did not show significant differences in health-related internet use, indicating a relatively gender-neutral and age-consistent landscape. Significant regional differences were observed, with the northeastern region showing a markedly higher propensity (AOR = 2.249, p < 0.001) for health-related internet use compared to the northern region. Meanwhile, the eastern region (AOR = 0.489, p = 0.018) showed lower odds. These findings underscore the need for targeted healthcare policies to enhance digital health engagement among older adults in Thailand, emphasizing the importance of improving digital literacy, expanding infrastructure, and addressing region-specific health initiatives. Purpose: This study investigates the pathways for adopting IoTs and BDA technologies to improve healthcare management. Design/methodology/approach: The study relied on 445 healthcare professionals' perspectives to explore different causal pathways to IoTs and BDA adoption and usage for daily healthcare management. The Fussy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis was adopted to explore the underlying pathways for healthcare management. Findings: The empirical analysis revealed six different configural paths influencing the acceptance and use of IoTs and BDA for healthcare improvement. Two key user topologies from the six configural paths, digital literacy and ease of use and social influence and behavioural intentions, mostly affect the paths for using digital health technologies by healthcare physicians. Research limitations/implications: Despite this study's novel contributions, limitations include the fsQCA methodology, perceptual data and the context of the study. The fsQCA methodology is still evolving with different interpretations, although it reveals new insights and as such further studies are required to explain the configural paths of social phenomena. Additionally, future research should consider other constructs beyond the UTAUT and digital literacy to illustrate configural paths to healthcare technology acceptance and usage. Again, the views of healthcare professionals are perceptual data. Hence future research on operational data will support significant contributions towards pathways to accept and use emerging technologies for healthcare improvement. Lastly, this study is from a developing country perspective where emerging digital healthcare technology is still emerging to support healthcare management. Hence, more investigation from other cross-country analyses of configural paths for digital technology deployment in healthcare will enhance the conversation with IoTs and BDA for healthcare management. Practical implications: Holistically, the acceptance and use of healthcare technologies and platforms is not solely on their capabilities, but a combination of distinct factors driven by users' perspectives. This offers healthcare administrators and institutions to essentially reflect on the distinct combinations of conditions favourable to health professionals who can use IoTs and BDA for healthcare improvement. Originality/value: This study is among the few scholarly works to empirically investigate the configural paths to support healthcare improvement with emerging technologies. The impact of algorithms on the way knowledge is created and shared has been seen as a revolutionary shift in the knowledge apparatus of society. Using the concept of paradigm shifts, this study explores how librarians providing information literacy programs and services described the programs they offer in information and digital literacies, their understandings of algorithms and how they might see future services. Using an information practices approach, data were collected from 30 librarians from university libraries across NSW. The analysis identified a range of paradigms that could have implications for changes in professional practices. Significant was the paradigm of the algorithm as 'black box', indicating a lack of technical knowledge about algorithms. Also important was the emphasis on the transactional paradigm in the literacy programs provided, with descriptions focussing on the behavioural aspects of the skills of students. Given the situation in universities post-pandemic, there was little optimism that significant changes would be made to the programs and services currently offered, although a small number of participants had implemented their own micro revolutionary changes. As paradigm shifts occur through changes in knowledge, and revolutionary changes require a supportive environment, the study concludes that only piecemeal evolutionary changes can be made currently. This design‐based study explored the digital and linguistic practices of South Korean adolescents from a rural area within the Write4Change global online community, emphasizing their use of image‐driven tools. Framed within the cosmopolitan literacies perspective, these adolescents adeptly merge local and global dimensions, integrating their multilingual identities, and compelling visual narratives into their work. They navigate English, the dominant language of the online community, while incorporating multilingual elements to enrich community dialogues. These practices reflect their linguistic adaptability and digital literacies and underscore the significant role of cosmopolitan literacies in transforming literacy studies. We share digital collages composed by youth in Lit Diaspora, a community‐based after‐school literacy initiative involving Black African immigrant youth and adult collaborators, as one contemporary example of rendering visible the contours of the educational lives of African immigrant youth, among the fastest growing immigrant communities in the U.S. We do so amid anti‐Black, anti‐immigrant discourse and policy in schools, workplaces, and society in the U.S. and globally. Thus, in framing our inquiry, we examine how educators and researchers, attending to the varied diaspora digital literacies and educational experiences of African immigrant youth: talk back to deficit narratives of their lived schooling experiences; navigate literacy learning across contexts of families and elders; demonstrate social and civic literacies that extend youth's identities; and affirm cultural and embodied knowledge, language, and practices. In this study, we investigated media reports and literacy research in four nations—China, Morocco, the Republic of (South) Korea, and the United States—about the relationship between adolescents' literacy and use of digital media, or digital literacy. We present short "snapshots" of adolescents' digital literacy in each country and then compare these to findings in a report about adolescent literacy and uses of digital media published by the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). Our analysis indicates significant variation across countries in both literate traditions and adolescents' access to digital media, and notes that these interact to create unique conditions for adolescents' digital literacy in each country, even as, across the four nations, adolescents' capacity to innovate and solve problems with digital access seems constant. In conclusion, we are cautious about making global claims about the state of adolescents' literacy worldwide but point to important findings about how the use of the internet in schools seems to have a positive impact on reading performance and offer some implications for classroom practice. In this digital era, digital literacy skills must be owned by students to write a good scientific writing. Therefore, this study aims to obtain students' perceptions and skills toward digital literacy in scientific writing. This study was a descriptive study. The data were collected by administering closed-ended questionnaires and conducting semi-structured interviews with the thirty-three students in the seventh semester of the English Language Education Study Program of Teaching Training and Education Faculty of Mahasaraswati University, Denpasar. Data obtained from the questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively, and the data from the interviews were analyzed qualitatively. The result of the study indicated that students had a positive perception of digital literacy and had good digital literacy skills in scientific writing. Students believed having digital literacy skills was essential to help them write good scientific writing. In addition, students have good skills in the digital literacy dimension of critical thinking, finding online information, online writing attitude, and digital function. These skills helped them construct and develop ideas and also avoid plagiarism. However, students' digital literacy skills can be classified as sufficient in the dimensions of online communication, creativity and collaboration, and digital academic culture. Children frequently use Google to answer their questions, yet what they think about Google's capacity and limitations is unclear. This study explores children's beliefs about Google's capacity to answer questions. American children ages 9 and 10 (n = 44; 18 boys and 26 girls) viewed factual questions directed towards Google or a person. After viewing each question, they reported their confidence in the informant's accuracy, the time it would take the informant to obtain the answer and how the informant would obtain the answer. Finally, they generated questions that the internet would be capable or incapable of answering. Children believed Google would be more accurate and faster than a person at answering questions. Children consistently generated appropriate questions that the internet would be good at answering, but they sometimes struggled to generate questions that the internet would not be good at answering. This article explores the relationship between privacy concerns and women's empowerment in the context of India's growing Smart Cities Movement and prevalent smartphone use. Using feminist ideas and legal frameworks to address cyberbullying, online harassment, cyberfraud and misogyny, it addresses cybersecurity and data privacy issues. The study emphasises the value of gendered implications of urban security and participatory design principles in smart city efforts. It suggests examining cyberfeminism and highlights the need for women to take an active role in developing safe online environments. Findings point to weaknesses in the legal systems that exist today as well as the possibility that technological improvements will exacerbate gender disparity. Legislative mandates should be strengthened, gender gaps in digital literacy should be closed, gender-sensitive design should be incorporated into smart city initiatives and women working in activism and digital technology should be encouraged to collaborate.
