Bee pollen is a well-balanced food and food supplement whose nutritional and bioactive properties vary according to its botanical origin. This comparative study examined some nutritional and biochemical properties of the various types of bee pollen samples collected from Anatolian region. Eleven samples were examined based on melissopalynological analyses, including five unifloral types (chestnut, rhododendron, buckwheat, ivy, and rose), and six different multifloral samples. Crude protein, edible fiber, sugar (fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose), and essential elements (Na, K. Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, Zn, and Mn) were evaluated for chemical characterization. Twenty-five phenolic components were analyzed using reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC–PDA). Total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids, ferric reducing antioxidant capacity (FRAP) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging activity were measured as antioxidant determinants. The results were subjected to statistical analysis, and principal component analysis (PCA) was applied to determine differences between pollen samples. Chrysin, t-cinnamic acid, and pinocembrin were identified as common components in all samples, but in varying amounts. Bee pollens' nutrients and phenolic compositions, thus, varied according to their botanical properties, although chestnut pollen exhibited the greatest antioxidant capacity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Honey composition and biologically active properties vary according to the botanical and geographical characteristics of the region where it is produced. With this research, for the first time, the botanical, physico-chemical, and antioxidant properties of honeys from the Northern Cyprus region were investigated. The honeys were multi-floral properties and contained 33 variety pollens. The appearance of the honeys according to Hunter tritium color (L, a, b) values was as light-colored , greenness and yellowness. The proline amount varied from 657.39 to 1974.23 mg/kg. Sucrose was not detected in the samples, and the F/G ratios varied between 1.13 and 1.74. Total polyphenol content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) ranged from 19.10 to 83.90 mg GAE/100 g and 2.90 to 13.50 mg QUE/100 g, respectively. Total antioxidant capacities of the samples were tested by ferric-reducing/antioxidant power (FRAP) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging activity, and the results varied from 126.9 to 228.8 μmol Fe2SO4.7H2O/100 g and 34.10 to 138.6 mg/mL, respectively. The phenolic profiles of the samples were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography–photodiode array detection (HPLC–PDA) with 25 standards, and chrysin and pinocembrin were discovered as the major components. In conclusion, the Northern Cyprus honeys are light-colored heterofloral blossom honeys. However, they are rich in eucalyptus, citrus, olives, thymus, and acacia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bee bread is a bee product that is formed by the mixture of honey, pollen, and secretion from the salivary glands of the bee. Research on bee bread is very limited compared to honey and pollen studies, but in recent years, with the increasing visibility of the product in the market, research on bee bread has also increased. This study was conducted to evaluate the chemical profile and antioxidant activity of bee breads collected from Anatolia. The individual sugars and organic acids were analyzed by a rapid and green capillary electrophoretic method. Fructose (11.6–32.1 g/100 g) and glucose (6.21–21.5 g/100 g) were the major sugars. Bee bread samples contained a wide range of organic acids. In all of the bee bread samples, gluconic acid (43.6–63.2 g/kg) was the predominant organic acid. Lactic acid, with a concentration ranging from 17.6 to 21.7 g/kg, was the second-highest organic acid. Total phenolic contents of the bee bread samples, ranging from 11.9 to 32.4 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g, were determined using Folin-Ciocalteu's method. DPPH radical scavenging activities and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) of the samples were evaluated. Finally, principal component analysis (PCA) analysis was performed using all data. The bee bread samples were clustered according to their site of collection. The results of the study will contribute to the data to be created from different parts of the world in the coming days for bee bread, which has a commercial value as food and complementary medicine. The present study was conducted to observe the effects of the Play-Based Father-Infant Interaction Programme (PBFIIP) on the interactional behaviour of fathers and infants. The study group was composed of 40 12-month-old infants and their fathers in central Muş, Turkey. For data collection, the 'Personal Information Form', the 'Caregiver-Child Affect, Responsiveness, and Engagement Scale', and the 'Denver Developmental Screening Test were used. The study was conducted as an experimental implementation. The evaluation of the study data involved descriptive statistical methods. For normally distributed quantitative data, the Student t Test was used for comparisons between the two groups and the Dependent Groups t Test was used for in-group comparisons. For variables which were not normally distributed, the Mann Whitney U Test was used for their comparisons and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used for in-group comparisons. The research findings revealed a significant difference in favour of the experiment group (p<0.05) between the pre-test and post-test average scores on the C-CARES father-child and pair forms. Among the infants in the experiment and control groups, no significant difference was detected between their pre-test total score averages in the personal-social, fine motor, language, and gross motor fields; a significant difference in favour of the experiment group was detected between their post-test average scores in the personal-social, language, and gross motor fields; and no significant difference was detected in the fine motor field (p>0.05). In this article, I explore what kind of individual is presupposed and promoted as the subject of the right to freedom of religion in Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights. I question the distinction made between freedom of religion and the right to manifest religion in the context of the so-called headscarf cases. I argue that making such a distinction is only possible if it is based on a particular understanding of an individual who, on the one hand, is capable of perceiving religion as something that can be protected as a lifestyle or as a background that can be entered or exited and who is required to submit to certain putatively secular rules, on the other. In order to do this, I outline the application of the distinction by the European Court of Human Rights and discuss whether it is an appropriate tool to approach the religious subjectivities of women wearing the headscarf for religious reasons. I then try to unearth the relationship between the doctrine of secularism and the conception of religion that is embedded in Article 9. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
