In the forefront of quantitative solar physics research using large-aperture ground-based solar optical telescopes, high-contrast observation along with high-accuracy polarimetric measurement in the solar active region are required. In this paper, we propose a novel high-contrast imaging telescope construction with a 60 cm medium aperture, namely, the PAthfinder in Solar Adaptive Telescope (PASAT), in which a deformable secondary mirror is used as the adaptive optical correction device and a symmetrical optical path design is employed, leading to the least Muller matrix polarization instruments. The telescope can provide a high-resolution magnetic field with high accuracy for the solar active regions, as well as high-contrast images with a superior signal-to-noise ratio and photometric accuracy of the solar photosphere and chromosphere. These data will be directly used for a better understanding of the evolution and release of magnetic energy, which will help in improving space weather forecasting. Comprehensive Summary: Nitroanilines are important building blocks in pharmaceuticals, materials and dyes. Nitration methods for anilines under mild conditions are highly desired. Herein, we report a photochemical method for the nitration of anilines bearing various protecting groups by 5‐methyl‐1,4‐dinitroimidazole as a new type of nitro source. This method is light‐controlled and proceeds under mild reaction conditions with high efficiency. Fmoc‐, Ts‐ and alkyl‐protected anilines are all well nitrated with good functional group tolerance. As compared to the predecessor Cu(In,Ga)Se2 device, the current efficiency of kesterite Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSSe) solar cells is still much lower mainly due to the known carriers recombination issue within interface and absorber bulk. In contrast to the majority of researches concerning recombination issues that focus on either single absorber bulk or interface passivation strategy, this study is pioneering in constructing synergistic passivation effects (SPE) to address the bulk and interface recombination issue simultaneously. By introducing a novel niobium pentoxide passivation layer into the back electrode interface (BEI), it is identified that SPE can be constructed due to Nb (& O) diffusion from Nb2O5 layer to absorber bulk and BEI during high‐temperature selenization. The chemical passivation effect is fulfilled via the intrinsic high resistance characteristic of Nb2O5 layer, and also through the NbOx passivation aiming to absorber bulk benefited from Nb (& O) diffusion. Meanwhile, the occupations of Nb (& O) on the Mo (& Se) sites induce a conduction type inversion in MoSe2 interfacial layer and create a preferable interface p+‐Mo(Se,O)2:Nb/CZTSSe, achieving an interfacial field passivation effect. Ground-layer adaptive optics (GLAO) has shown its potential for use in solar observation owing to its wide field-of-view (FOV) correction. A high-order GLAO system that consists of a multiple direction Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor (WFS), a real-time controller with a multi-CPU processor, and a 151-element deformable mirror was developed for the 1-m New Vacuum Solar Telescope at Yunnan Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences. A hexagonal microlens with 9 × 8 subapertures is employed in the WFS. The detection FOV is 42″ × 37″, in which 9 (3 × 3) guide regions are extracted for multiple direction wavefront sensing with a frame rate of up to 2200 Hz. To our knowledge, this is the first professional solar GLAO system used as a regularly operating instrument for scientific observations. Its installation and adjustment were performed in the summer of 2021. In this article, a detailed account of the GLAO system and its first light results and a comprehensive analysis of the performance of the GLAO system are provided. Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is a multisite malignancy that responds well to immunotherapy. Despite the initial enthusiasm, the clinical benefits of immunotherapy in HNSCC patients are overall limited. Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) has been indicated to play a key role in the process of anti-tumor immune response mediation. However, ERS-related biomarkers which can accurately predict prognosis and immunotherapy response in HNSCC are still lacking. Methods and results: In this study, we identify and validate an ERS-related signature comprises of six genes (ASNS, EXOSC6, BAK1, TPP1, EXOSC8, and TATDN2) that can predict the prognosis of HNSCC patients. GSEA analysis indicates that the ERS-related signature is significantly correlated with tumor immunity in HNSCC. Moreover, the infiltration of naive B cells and CD8 + T cells are significantly diminished in patients with high-risk scores compared to those with low-risk scores, while macrophages and activated mast cells are remarkably enhanced. Furthermore, the ERS-related signature also displays a tremendous potential for predicting immunotherapy response in HNSCC. Conclusions: Our study identifies an ERS-related signature that can predict the prognosis of HNSCC patients and highlights its potential value as a predictive biomarker of immunotherapy response, potentially enabling more precise and personalized immunotherapy response and paving the way for further investigation of the prognostic and therapeutic potentials of ERS. Integrating nanoscale building blocks of low dimensionality (0D; i.e., spheres) into higher dimensional structures endows them and their corresponding materials with emergent properties non-existent or only weakly existent in the individual building blocks. Constructing 1D chains, 2D arrays and 3D superlattices using nanoparticles and colloids therefore continues to be one of the grand goals in colloid and nanomaterial science. Amongst these higher order structures, 1D colloidal chains are of particular interest, as they possess unique anisotropic properties. In recent years, the most relevant advances in 1D colloidal chain research have been made in novel synthetic methodologies and applications. In this review, we first address a comprehensive description of the research progress concerning various synthetic strategies developed to construct 1D colloidal chains. Following this, we highlight the amplified and emergent properties of the resulting materials, originating from the assembly of the individual building blocks and their collective behavior, and discuss relevant applications in advanced materials. In the discussion of synthetic strategies, properties, and applications, particular attention will be paid to overarching concepts, fresh trends, and potential areas of future research. We believe that this comprehensive review will be a driver to guide the interdisciplinary field of 1D colloidal chains, where nanomaterial synthesis, self-assembly, physical property studies, and material applications meet, to a higher level, and open up new research opportunities at the interface of classical disciplines. Background: The role of HGF in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) is not clear. Methods: Reverse transcription PCR, western blotting, gelatin zymography, immunohistochemistry, actin polymerization, chemotaxis and migration assays were used in the authors' study. Results: HGF expression level was upregulated in SCCHN cells, which was associated with clinical stage; tumor, node, metastasis classification; and lymphatic invasion. SCCHN cells with high Met expression were sensitive to cell invasion, which was blocked by inhibiting PI3K/Akt and JNK. HGF induced MMP9 expression and enhanced its activity. Akt induced the activation of JNK through the PI3K/Akt and JNK signaling pathways. Conclusion: HGF upregulates MMP9 through the activation of the PI3K/Akt and JNK signaling pathways in SCCHN cells. However, systems programmed by enzymatic reaction networks in multicomponent and unknown environments, and using biocompatible components remain a challenge. Herein, we demonstrate an approach to program temporal pH signals by enzymatic logic gates. They are realized by an enzymatic disaccharide‐to‐monosaccharide‐to‐sugar acid reaction cascade catalyzed by two metabolic chains: invertase‐glucose oxidase and β‐galactosidase‐glucose oxidase, respectively. Lifetimes of the transient pH signal can be programmed from less than 15 min to more than 1 day. We study enzymatic kinetics of the reaction cascades and reveal the underlying regulatory mechanisms. Operating with all‐food grade chemicals and coupling to self‐regulating hydrogel, our system is quite robust to work in a complicated medium with unknown components and in a biocompatible fashion. Compartmentalization of signal processing is an important aspect for controlling such networks. However, artificial CRNs mostly focus on homogeneous solutions to program autonomous self‐assembling systems, which limits their accessible behaviour and tuneability. Here, we introduce layered compartments housing antagonistic pH‐modulating enzymes and demonstrate that transient pH signals in a supernatant solution can be programmed based on spatial delays. This overcomes limitations of activity mismatches of antagonistic enzymes in solution and allows to flexibly program acidic and alkaline pH lifecycles beyond the possibilities of homogeneous solutions. Despite the increasing incidence of papillary thyroid cancer in the past decade, the molecular mechanism underlying its progression remains unknown. Several studies have reported down‐regulation of miR‐451a or circular miR‐451a in papillary thyroid cancer cell lines or patients. However, the underlying molecular mechanism remains unknown. In this study, we found that overexpression of miR‐451a could inhibit proliferation, epithelial‐mesenchymal transition and induce apoptosis in papillary thyroid cancer cells. Proteasome subunit beta type‐8 was predicted to be a direct target of miR‐451a and was validated with a luciferase reporter assay. Polymer particles with sophisticated wrinkle patterns for addressing specific functional demands have found increasing applications in many fields. Here, we describe a novel strategy to prepare controllable wrinkled-surface polymer microspheres by soap-free emulsion polymerization method via using amphiphilic 1,1-diphenylethylene-capped hydrolyzed poly (glycidyl methacrylate) (D-PGMA) as emulsifier and initiator, which simplified the emulsion system to only three components, water, monomer and D-PGMA. It was found that both cross-linked polymer network and swelling were essential to wrinkle morphology formation of polymers by carefully monitoring the structural evolution during polymerization process. Furthermore, we investigated that wrinkle wavelength and amplitude could be controlled easily not only by varying mass ratios of D-PGMA and monomer, but also by introducing different types and dosages of solvents. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy were used to characterize wrinkle phenomenological features. Besides, by combining with mercury porosimetry, the possible internal groove structures were deduced. A facile, robust, scalable and eco-friendly route as part of a relatively simple system to prepare polymer capsules has always been desired but remains challenging. Herein, a multifunctional, active, amphiphilic macromolecule, 1,1-diphenylethylene (DPE)-capped hydrolyzed poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (D-PGMA), was found to act as both the surfactant and the initiator in an interfacial emulsion polymerization process for polymer capsules. This simplified the emulsion system to only three components: water, monomer and D-PGMA. The interfacial distribution of amphiphilic D-PGMA and the controlled/living radical polymerization owing to the semi-quinoid structure were synergistically responsible for the formation of polymer capsules. Besides, by employing this method, microcapsules encapsulating phase change materials (PCMs) whose encapsulation ratio could be up to 92% were readily fabricated and possessed large heat storage capability and good thermal stability. We believe that this facile, robust, scalable and eco-friendly method will inspire new strategies for preparing polymeric capsules and will find promising application in the field of energy storage. LaAlO3 powders are prepared by coprecipitation of La(OH)3 and Al(OH)3, followed by solid state reaction method or molten salt synthesis method. The crysatlline phase evolution, micro morphology and luminescence properties of the calcined products are systematically studied by XRD, SEM/EDX and fluorescence spectroscopy. The results show that LaAlO3 powders with high purity could be obtained at 1000°C/3h with the help of melton salt Na2SO4, however, impurities exist in the solid state reaction products under the same calcination condition. The as prepared sub-micrometer LaAlO3 powders doped with Eu3+ ion by the molten salt method show two dominant emmision peaks of 596nm and 618nm under excitation of near ultraviolet light (314nm), both emmision peak intensity reach maximum at the Eu3+ doping concentration of x = 0.08. At higher Eu3+ doping concentration, the emmision peak intensity decreases due to the concentration quenching. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A facile one-step approach to synthesize various phase-separated porous, raspberry-like, flower-like, core-shell and anomalous nanoparticles and nanocapsules via 1,1-diphenylethene (DPE) controlled soap-free emulsion copolymerization of styrene (S) with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), or acrylic acid (AA) is reported. By regulating the mass ratio of S/GMA, transparent polymer solution, porous and anomalous P(S-GMA) particles could be produced. The P(S-GMA) particles turn from flower-like to raspberry-like and then to anomalous structures with smooth surface as the increase of divinylbenzene (DVB) crosslinker. Transparent polymer solution, nanocapsules and core-shell P(S-AA) particles could be obtained by altering the mole ratio of S/AA; anomalous and raspberry-like P(S-AA) particles are produced by adding DVB. The unpolymerized S resulted from the low monomer conversion in the presence of DPE aggregates to form nano-sized droplets, and migrates towards the external surfaces of the GMA-enriched P(S-GMA) particles and the internal bulk of the AA-enriched P(S-AA) particles. The nano-sized droplets function as in situ porogen, porous P(S-GMA) particles and P(S-AA) nanocapsules are produced when the porogen is removed. This novel, facile, one-step method with excellent controllability and reproducibility will inspire new strategies for creating hierarchical phase-separated polymeric particles with various structures by simply altering the species and ratio of comonomers. The drug loading and release experiments on the porous particles and nanocapsules demonstrate that the release of doxorubicin hydrochloride is very slow in weakly basic environment and quick in weakly acidic environment, which enables the porous particles and nanocapsules with promising potential in drug delivery applications. A series of microporous polymers was produced via the self-condensation of dichloroxylene which is a typical bischloromethyl monomer for a one-step synthetic process. The influences of experimental conditions including type of solvent, reaction time, and addition amount of catalyst on the polymer properties were systematically investigated. The results showed that Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) specific surface areas and pore volumes of the hypercrosslinked polymers (HCPs) increased rapidly as the increase of reaction time at first and then remained nearly constant. In addition, there is a threshold concentration of catalyst for producing HCPs with high BET specific surface areas and big pore volumes. Under optimal reaction conditions, when 1, 2-dichloroethane was used as solvent, reaction time was 21 h and the molar ratio of catalyst to dichloroxylene was one; the microporous polymer with maximum BET specific surface area of up to 1446.32 m/g was obtained. Furthermore, the adsorption performance of the as-prepared HCPs was studied using aniline as model adsorbate. The adsorption of aniline followed a pseudo-second-order model, and the adsorption isotherm was proved to fit the Langmuir adsorption model ( R > 0.99). A novel two-step assembly method was found and was used to fabricate special multihollow polymer microspheres. Firstly, monodisperse colloidal particles of poly(styrene- co-( n-butyl acrylate)- co-acrylic acid) (P(St- co- nBA- co-AA)) were synthesized by soap-free emulsion polymerization and the obtained emulsion was transferred to 1-octanol to form colloidosomes which were stabilized by Span 80 and the colloidal particles via assembling at the interface of water/oil. Secondly, the multihollow polymer microspheres were successfully fabricated by heat aggregation and fusion of the aforementioned colloidosomes and colloidal particles. The two-step assembly mechanism was revealed and explained based on the morphologies of multihollow polymer microspheres formed under different emulsifier amounts and sintering conditions. Monodisperse P(St-co-nBA-co-AA) colloidal microspheres with various glass transition temperatures (Tgs), whose average particle sizes were about 300 nm, were prepared using soap-free emulsion polymerization by adjusting the ratio of styrene and n-butyl acrylate. Colloidal photonic crystals were assembled with these microspheres by vertical deposition method. Stop bands of colloidal crystals under different temperatures have been characterized. The relationship between the stop band and temperature was indicated. The microstructure and reflectance spectra of photonic crystals were characterized by SEM and fiber spectrometer, respectively. Results showed that as the temperature increased, only a little red shift of stop band appeared in the vicinity of Tg and the intensity of the maximum reflection peak decreased until the stop bands disappeared. Furthermore, enough heating time at the Tg ±2 °C could also lead to the disappearance of stop bands. Millimeter-wave (MMW) imaging is a touch-free method for security inspection at railway stations and airports. However, automatic detection of dangerous objects in MMW images is challenging; the characteristics of images are remarkable with variable appearances of an object, different contrasts, and lower resolutions. We propose a fast and accurate concealed dangerous object detection method called MMW image Detection (MMWDet). MMWDet comprises two stages: single-image detection and multi-angle image detection. In the single-image detection stage, we design a more robust feature fusion relationship between adjacent feature maps in a feature pyramid network to achieve a more robust feature representation of an object. Meanwhile, we employ localization confidence rather than category confidence in the classification branch to address the negative sample interference in the training process. Then, multi-angle image detection is proposed to reduce the false and missed detection rate based on a single image by refining the detection results of multi-angle images, which maps and filters the prediction boxes frame by frame based on matching pairs of adjacent image feature points. We collected a MMW dataset that included 38k images. Extensive experiments on the MMW dataset demonstrate the effectiveness and improved performance of the proposed method compared with advanced general detection methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Monodisperse microspheres with average particle size in the range of 100-600 nm, whose main monomer was styrene, were prepared by soap-free emulsion polymerization. The factors influencing polymer colloidal particle sizes and size distributions were investigated, including initiator concentration, polymerization temperature and hydrophilic monomer amount. Then, six kinds of polymer microspheres with average size from 153 nm to 565 nm were selected to grow colloid photonic crystal by vertical deposition method. Results showed that photonic band gaps could be effectively adjusted by changing the particle size. The obtained photonic crystals were highly ordered face-centered cubic structures. The synthesis of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) via hydrolytic co-condensation of phenyltriethoxysilane (PTES) and γ-aminopropyltrieth-oxysilane (APS) was presented in this paper. The microspheres with mean diameter of 1.83 μm were precipitated from solvent phase through self-assembly when solvent phase was changed. After the reduction of hydrazine hydrate, POSS/Ag hybrid microspheres were obtained based on the chelation of external amino-groups to silver ions. The hybrid microspheres modified epoxy resin was also studied in the work. The structure and particle size distribution of POSS, feature and silver content of the POSS/Ag core/shell microspheres, heat resistance, thermal conductivity and comprehensive mechanical properties of the epoxy resin modified by diamine-POSS/Ag were characterized by NMR, FTIR, SEM, Laser Particle Sizer, TGA and Flat Heat Conduction Coefficient, Universal Testing Machine. It was found that POSS was cage-like structures with two amino-groups, amino group content was 2.12 mmol/g and the silver conten was 47.96 %, respectively. When Ag addition reached 5 %, thermal conductivity of the modified epoxy resin has increased fourfold four times greater than pure, and the heat resistance increased by 35 °C. Moreover, the bending strength and impact strength of the modified resin were 127 MPa and 11.94 KJ/m, respectively, compared with pure epoxy resin, both of which have improved. Novel inner asymmetric composite microspheres were prepared by encapsulating surface-modified magnetic particles via mini-emulsion polymerization. Most of the surface-modified magnetic particles encapsulated into the polymer matrix aggregate in one side of each microsphere, while only a few particles randomly disperse in the remaining part. High reflective (HR) films with low stress and high damage threshold are deposited on a high-density deformable mirror (HDM) for a high-power laser system. The parameters of the laser system are about 5 J, 6 ns, and 200 Hz @ 1064 nm. The surface figure of the HDM is measured before and after coating, respectively. After coating, the surface error of HDM is only 39-nm rms, and the results show that the residual stress of HR films is very small. Then, a Φ50-mm sample and the HDM are tested successively in the high-power laser system. The temperature rise of the sample and HDM are measured in real-time. Finally, the temperature of HDM has risen by 10°C, while the sample is changed by only 1°C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A series of N, O‐doped hypercrosslinked microporous polymers (HCPs) with high surface area and rich microporosity were constructed via facile Friedel‐Crafts alkylation promoted by anhydrous ferric chloride (FeCl3), which used benzyl alcohol (BA) and 2‐phenylimidazole (PID) as the basic building blocks. The effects of structural composition on the pore properties and gas adsorption properties of prepared HCPs were systematically investigated. The results show that by adjusting the ratio of PID to BA, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) specific surface area and pore volume of the prepared HCPs can be controlled, and the BET specific surface area of the polymers range from 732–992 m2/g. Gas uptake experiments indicate that the obtained HCPs exhibit very high CO2 adsorption capacity up to 3.55 mmol/g at 273 K/1.0 bar. Simultaneously, these N, O‐doped HCPs also show quite high isosteric heat of CO2 sorption at the low coverage (up to 33 kJ/mol). In addition, the prepared HCPs have excellent selective adsorption performance, and the optimal selective adsorption of CO2/N2 is 62.
