Background: To review the changes and survey on status quo of the surgical treatment for esophageal cancer in China. The differences in diagnosis and treatment for esophageal cancer among hospitals in different regions across China were also investigated. Methods: We sent questionnaires to 46 hospitals across China, investigating the volume of esophageal cancer surgeries, surgical procedures, and perioperative management under the guidance of esophageal surgery chiefs. Results: A total of 46 questionnaires were sent out and collected. The survey results showed that in the past 5 years, the volume of surgeries for esophageal cancer remained stable by 23.9% of those hospitals, increased by 30.4%, and decreased by 45.7%. Of those patients treated by surgery, 19.1% were in the early stages, and 80.9% were in locally advanced stages. In terms of surgical procedures, 73.4% of the patients were treated by minimally invasive surgery and 85.7% of esophageal substitutes were a gastric conduit, 93.1% of the substitutes were pulled to the neck through the esophageal bed. For the lymph node dissection, 78.5% of the patients had a complete two‐field lymph node dissection including the para‐recurrent laryngeal nerve lymph nodes. Of the patients with neoadjuvant therapy, 53.5% received chemotherapy or chemotherapy plus immunotherapy (47.0%), and 43.5% had chemoradiation. Conclusions: Currently, in China, minimally invasive surgery‐oriented multimodality treatment, including complete two‐field lymph node dissection, has become the standard approach for esophageal cancer management. Objective: To investigate whether Naoxueshu Oral Liquid (NXS) could promote hematoma absorption in post-craniotomy hematoma (PCH) patients. Methods: This is an open-label, multicenter, and randomized controlled trial conducted at 9 hospitals in China. Patients aged 18–80 years with post-craniotomy supratentorial hematoma volume ranging from 10 to 30 mL or post-craniotomy infratentorial hematoma volume less than 10 mL, or intraventricular hemorrhage following cranial surgery were enrolled. They were randomly assigned at a 1:1 ratio to the NXS (10 mL thrice daily for 15 days) or control groups using a randomization code table. Standard medical care was administered in both groups. The primary outcome was the percentage reduction in hematoma volume from day 1 to day 15. The secondary outcomes included the percentage reduction in hematoma volume from day 1 to day 7, the absolute reduction in hematoma volume from day 1 to day 7 and 15, and the change in neurological function from day 1 to day 7 and 15. The safety was closely monitored throughout the study. Moreover, subgroup analysis was performed based on age, gender, history of diabetes, and etiology of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Results: A total of 120 patients were enrolled and randomly assigned between March 30, 2018 and April 15, 2020. One patient was lost to follow-up in the control group. Finally, there were 119 patients (60 in the NXS group and 59 in the control group) included in the analysis. In the full analysis set (FAS) analysis, the NXS group had a greater percentage reduction in hematoma volume from day 1 to day 15 than the control group [median (Q1, Q3): 85% (71%, 97%) vs. 76% (53%, 93%), P<0.05]. The secondary outcomes showed no statistical significance between two groups, either in FAS or per-protocol set (P>0.05). Furthermore, no adverse events were reported during the study. In the FAS analysis, the NXS group exhibited a higher percentage reduction in hematoma volume on day 15 in the following subgroups: male patients, patients younger than 65 years, patients without diabetes, or those with initial cranial surgery due to ICH (all P<0.05). Conclusions: The administration of NXS demonstrated the potential to promote the percentage reduction in hematoma volume from day 1 to day 15. This intervention was found to be safe and feasible. Background and aims: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccination programs in Taiwan are one of the earliest programs in the world and have largely reduced the prevalence of HBV infection. We aimed to demonstrate the vaccination efficacy after 35 years and identify gaps toward HBV elimination. Methods: A total of 4717 individuals aged 1–60 years were recruited from four administrative regions based on the proportion of population distribution. Serum levels of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), hepatitis B surface antibody (anti‐HBs), and hepatitis B core antibody (anti‐HBc) levels were assessed. HBV viral load, genotypes and HBsAg 'ɑ' determinant variants were evaluated if indicated. Results: After 35 years of vaccination, the overall seropositivity rates for HBsAg and anti‐HBc in Taiwan were 4.05% and 21.3%, respectively. The vaccinated birth cohorts exhibited significantly lower seropositivity rates for both markers compared to the unvaccinated birth cohorts (HBsAg: 0.64% vs. 9.78%; anti‐HBc: 2.1% vs. 53.55%, respectively; p < 0.0001). Maternal transmission was identified as the main route of HBV infection in breakthrough cases. Additionally, increased prevalences of genotype C and HBsAg escape mutants were observed. Conclusion: The 35‐year universal HBV vaccination program effectively reduced the burden of HBV infection, but complete eradication of HBV infection has not yet been achieved. Medical advances prolonging life have led to more permanent pacemaker implants. When pacemaker implantation (PMI) is commonly caused by sick sinus syndrome or conduction disorders, predicting PMI is challenging, as patients often experience related symptoms. This study was designed to create a deep learning model (DLM) for predicting future PMI from ECG data and assess its ability to predict future cardiovascular events. In this study, a DLM was trained on a dataset of 158,471 ECGs from 42,903 academic medical center patients, with additional validation involving 25,640 medical center patients and 26,538 community hospital patients. Primary analysis focused on predicting PMI within 90 days, while all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, and the development of various cardiovascular conditions were addressed with secondary analysis. The study's raw ECG DLM achieved area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.870, 0.878, and 0.883 for PMI prediction within 30, 60, and 90 days, respectively, along with sensitivities exceeding 82.0% and specificities over 81.9% in the internal validation. Significant ECG features included the PR interval, corrected QT interval, heart rate, QRS duration, P-wave axis, T-wave axis, and QRS complex axis. The AI-predicted PMI group had higher risks of PMI after 90 days (hazard ratio [HR]: 7.49, 95% CI: 5.40-10.39), all-cause mortality (HR: 1.91, 95% CI: 1.74–2.10), CVD mortality (HR: 3.53, 95% CI: 2.73–4.57), and new-onset adverse cardiovascular events. External validation confirmed the model's accuracy. Through ECG analyses, our AI DLM can alert clinicians and patients to the possibility of future PMI and related mortality and cardiovascular risks, aiding in timely patient intervention. Background: Angiostrongyliasis is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by the rat lungworm Angiostrongylus cantonensis. The intermediate hosts of A. cantonensis are gastropods, and snail species such as Pomacea canaliculata play a key role in the transmission of human angiostrongyliasis. Detecting A. cantonensis infection in snails is an important component of epidemiological surveillance and the control of angiostrongyliasis. Methods: In this study, a new method for diagnosing A. cantonensis infection in gastropods was developed by recovering larvae from the buccal cavity of three snail species. The entire buccal cavity of a snail was extracted, and the tissue was pressed between two microscope slides to observe whether A. cantonensis larvae were present. Our new method was compared with traditional pathogenic detection methods of lung microscopy, tissue homogenization, and artificial digestion. We artificially infected 160 P. canaliculata, 160 Cipangopaludina chinensis, and 160 Bellamya aeruginosa snails with A. cantonensis. Then, the four different detection methods were used to diagnose infection in each snail species at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days post exposure. Results: We found no significant difference in the percentages of infected P. canaliculata snails using the four methods to detect A. cantonensis larvae. The radula pressing method had a mean detection rate of 80%, while the lung microscopy (81.3%), tissue homogenization (83.8%), and artificial digestion (85%) methods had slightly greater detection rates. Similarly, the percentages of infected C. chinensis snails that were detected using the radula pressing (80%), tissue homogenization (82.1%), and artificial digestion (83.8%) methods were not significantly different. Finally, the percentages of infected B. aeruginosa snails that were detected using the radula pressing (81.3%), tissue homogenization (81.9%), and artificial digestion (81.4%) methods were not significantly different. These results showed that the radula pressing method had a similar detection rate to traditional lung microscopy, tissue homogenization, or artificial digestion methods. Conclusions: This study demonstrates a new method for the qualitative screening of gastropods that act as intermediate hosts of A. cantonensis (and other Angiostrongylus species), provides technical support for the control of human angiostrongyliasis, and furthers research on A. cantonensis. The issues of state estimations based on distributed observers for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with multiple sensors are discussed in this paper. We deal with the scenario when the information exchange has known time delays, and aim at designing a distributed observer for each subsystem such that each distributed observer can estimate the system state asymptotically by rejecting the time delay. To begin with, by rewriting the target system in a connecting form, a subsystem which is affected by the time-delay states of other nodes is established. And then, for this subsystem, a distributed observer with time delay is constructed. Moreover, an equivalent state transformation is made for the observer error dynamic system based on the observable canonic decomposition theorem. Further, in order to ensure that the distributed observer error dynamic system is asymptotically stable even if there exists a time delay, a linear matrix inequality (LMI) which is relative to the Laplace matrix is elaborately set up, and a special Lyapunov function candidate based on the LMI is considered. Next, based on the Lyapunov function and Lyapunov stability theory, we prove that the error dynamic system of the distributed observer is asymptotically stable, and the observer gain is determined by a feasible solution of the LMI. The unique edge states of the zigzag β-SiC7 nanoribbons aroused our attention, and therefore, based on first-principles calculations, we investigated their spin-dependent electronic transport properties by constructing controllable defects to modulate these special edge states. Interestingly, by introducing rectangular edge defects in the SiSi and SiC edge-terminated systems, not only the spin-unpolarized is successfully converted to completely spin-polarized, but also the direction of polarization can be switched, thus enabling a dual spin filter. The analyses further reveal that the two transmission channels with opposite spins are spatially separated and that the transmission eigenstates are highly concentrated at the relative edges. The specific edge defect introduced only suppresses the transmission channel at the same edge but reserves the transmission channel at the other edge. In addition, for the CSi and CC edge-terminated systems, an additional spin-down band exists due to spin splitting in the spin-up band at EF, so that besides the original spatially separated two spin-opposite channels, an extra spin channel is distributed at the upper edge, resulting in unidirectional fully spin-polarized transport. The peculiar spatially separated edge states and excellent spin filtering properties could open up further possibilities for β-SiC7-based electronic devices in spintronics applications. Industrial enterprises are major sources of contaminants, making their regulation vital for sustainable development. Tracking contaminant generation at the firm-level is challenging due to enterprise heterogeneity and the lack of a universal estimation method. This study addresses the issue by focusing on hazardous waste (HW), which is difficult to monitor automatically. We developed a data-driven methodology to predict HW generation using wastewater big data which is grounded in the availability of this data with widespread application of automatic sensors and the logical assumption that a correlation exists between wastewater and HW generation. We created a generic framework that used representative variables from diverse sectors, exploited a data-balance algorithm to address long-tail data distribution, and incorporated causal discovery to screen features and improve computation efficiency. Our method was tested on 1024 enterprises across 10 sectors in Jiangsu, China, demonstrating high fidelity (R² = 0.87) in predicting HW generation with 4,260,593 daily wastewater data. AI-based data-driven methods can simulate the relationship between wastewater and hazardous waste generation, enabling source estimation of hazardous waste from diverse enterprises in a uniform and lightweight manner in China. Aim: The serum creatinine/cystatin C ratio (CCR) or sarcopenia index is considered a useful marker of muscle mass. However, its usefulness in late‐stage older adults remains unclear. We aimed to determine the usefulness of CCR as an indicator of sarcopenia in community‐dwelling Japanese adults aged >75 years. Methods: Our study recruited participants aged 70, 80, and 90 ± 1 years during the baseline years, and included a 3‐year follow‐up in the Septuagenarians, Octogenarians, Nonagenarians, Investigation with Centenarians study. From 2015 to 2018, 955 participants were eligible: 367 in their 70s, 304 in their 80s, and 284 in their 90s. The diagnostic components of sarcopenia, including "low muscle mass, plus low muscle strength, and/or low physical performance," were evaluated using the bioelectrical impedance analysis‐measured skeletal muscle mass index (SMI), handgrip strength, and short physical performance battery (SPPB) score, respectively, in accordance with the Asia Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 criteria. Separate analyses were performed between each component and CCR, adjusting for sex, body mass index, and other blood biomarkers in each group. Results: The relationship between CCR and sarcopenia components was significant for handgrip strength (β = 0.21, 0.13, 0.19, and P < 0.0001, =0.0088, <0.0001, for the 70s, 80s, and 90s age groups, respectively); however, it was limited for SMI (β = 0.14; P = 0.0022, only for the 90s) and not significant for the SPPB score. Conclusion: CCR is a limited indicator of sarcopenia in late‐stage older adults. Natural regeneration is deemed essential for maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem stability. Previous studies, however, have primarily concentrated on regions exhibiting limited environmental and climatic variability, overlooking the classification of natural regeneration based on age and source. Research conducted at the mesoscale, characterized by increased environmental variability and the incorporation of neighborhood competition and understory-associated vegetation, enhances our comprehension of the multifaceted influences on natural regeneration. To comprehend this issue, this study implemented 60 plots, each measuring 20 m × 20 m, across five distinct areas of Chongqing, China. Twenty explanatory variables were chosen from five diverse categories: understory vegetation, neighborhood competition, stand structure, climatic factors, and environmental factors. And the naturally regenerated species were classified into seedlings and saplings, as well as endogenous and exogenous species, based on their age and origin. We examined the response of the different categories of natural regeneration to various factors and constructed a structural equation model (SEM) for significant factors to investigate their direct and indirect effects on natural regeneration. A total of 61 regenerated tree species belonging to 29 families and 42 genera were found in the study area, and the naturally regenerating species with high importance values were Quercus fabri, Robinia pseudoacacia, Alangium chinense, Cunninghamia lanceolata, and Ligustrum lucidum. It was found that neighborhood competition and understory-associated vegetation explained the largest proportion (more than 50%) of the variation in the different categories of natural regeneration, and forests with clumped distribution (W), a high mingling index (M) and strong competition (H) had a reduced natural regeneration capacity. Understory-associated herbs significantly reduced natural regeneration and the crowdedness index (C) significantly inhibited the understory-associated herbs, thus indirectly promoting natural regeneration. The shrub cover is significantly and positively correlated with the number of naturally regenerated plants and can be used as an indicator of a forest community's regeneration potential. Understanding the differences in the importance of various factors at the mesoscale, as well as their direct and indirect impacts, can help us further comprehend the mechanisms of natural regeneration and provide a foundation for the sustainable development of forests. Background: Recent evidence has demonstrated that abnormal expression and regulation of circular RNA (circRNAs) are involved in the occurrence and development of a variety of tumors. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of circ_PPAPDC1A in Osimertinib resistance in NSCLC. Methods: Human circRNAs microarray analysis was conducted to identify differentially expressed (DE) circRNAs in Osimertinib-acquired resistance tissues of NSCLC. The effect of circ_PPAPDC1A on cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and apoptosis was assessed in both in vitro and in vivo. Dual-luciferase reporter assay, RT-qPCR, Western-blot, and rescue assay were employed to confirm the interaction between circ_PPAPDC1A/miR-30a-3p/IGF1R axis. Results: The results revealed that circ_PPAPDC1A was significantly upregulated in Osimertinib acquired resistance tissues of NSCLC. circ_PPAPDC1A reduced the sensitivity of PC9 and HCC827 cells to Osimertinib and promoted cell proliferation, invasion, migration, while inhibiting apoptosis in Osimertinib-resistant PC9/OR and HCC829/OR cells, both in vitro and in vivo. Silencing circ_PPAPDC1A partially reversed Osimertinib resistance. Additionally, circ_PPAPDC1A acted as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) by targeting miR-30a-3p, and Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 Receptor (IGF1R) was identified as a functional gene for miR-30a-3p in NSCLC. Furthermore, the results confirmed that circ_PPAPDC1A/miR-30a-3p/IGF1R axis plays a role in activating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in NSCLC with Osimertinib resistance. Conclusions: Therefore, for the first time we identified that circ_PPAPDC1A was significantly upregulated and exerts an oncogenic role in NSCLC with Osimertinib resistance by sponging miR-30a-3p to active IGF1R/PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. circ_PPAPDC1A may serve as a novel diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target for NSCLC patients with Osimertinib resistance. Nucleophilic substitutions are fundamentally important transformations in synthetic organic chemistry. Despite the substantial advances in bimolecular nucleophilic substitutions (SN2) at saturated carbon centers, analogous SN2 reaction at the amide nitrogen atom remains extremely limited. Here we report an SN2 substitution method at the amide nitrogen atom with amine nucleophiles for nitrogen–nitrogen (N−N) bond formation that leads to a novel strategy toward biologically and medicinally important hydrazide derivatives. We found the use of sulfonate‐leaving groups at the amide nitrogen atom played a pivotal role in the reaction. This new N−N coupling reaction allows the use of O‐tosyl hydroxamates as electrophiles and readily available amines, including acyclic aliphatic amines and saturated N‐heterocycles as nucleophiles. The reaction features mild conditions, broad substrate scope (>80 examples), excellent functional group tolerability, and scalability. Oreocharis leveilleana Fedde was collected in Ta-pin in 1910 and published in 1911. The collected location was verified within western Luodian County, Guizhou Province, China. However, there have been no records of the species' collection for more than 100 years since then. After extensive investigations by our research team on the type locality and its surrounding areas, we found that it is widely distributed in western Luodian County and eastern Wangmo County, Guizhou Province, China. During further research on the original literature, type specimens and type locality of O. leveilleana, the taxonomic position of O. leveilleana, which was once treated as a synonym of O. auricula (S.Moore) C.B.Clarke, was found to have a taxonomic problem. Through morphological research combined with geographical distribution analysis, it has been determined that it should belong to the genus Petrocodon Hance and it is the same species as P. coccineus (C.Y.Wu ex H.W.Li) Yin Z.Wang. According to the regulations and suggestions of the 2018 "International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi, and Plants (Shenzhen Code)", we propose and confirm a new combination -- Petrocodon leveilleanus (Fedde) X.X.Bai & F.Wen and treat P. coccineus as a synonym of the new combination. Primulina jinyu F.Wen, L.Ding & X.C.Ke, a new species of Gesneriaceae from the limestone area of Hubei, Central China, is described and illustrated. This new species is morphologically similar to P. chizhouensis Xin Hong, S.B.Zhou & F. Wen, but it can be easily distinguished from the latter by several characteristics, such as the indumentum of leaf blades, and the shape of bracts, the colour and indumentum of corolla, and the number and indumentum of staminodes, etc. The conservation status of P. jinyu can be considered as Critically Endangered [CR B2a+B2b(v)]. Purpose: Donor-derived infection (DDI) has become an important factor affecting the prognosis of lung transplantation patients. The risks versus benefits of using donor organs infected with multidrug-resistant organisms (MDRO), especially carbapenem-resistant organisms (CRO), are frequently debated. Traditional microbial culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing at present fail to meet the needs of quick CRO determination for donor lungs before acquisition. In this study, we explored a novel screening method by using Xpert® Carba-R assay for CRO in donor lungs in a real-time manner to reduce CRO-associated DDI mortality. Methods: This study was registered on chictr.org.cn (ChiCTR2100053687) on November 2021. In the Xpert Carba-R screening group, donor lungs were screened for CRO infection by the Xpert Carba-R test on bronchoalveolar fluid (BALF) before acquisition. If the result was negative, donor lung acquisition and subsequent lung transplantation were performed. In the thirty-five potential donors, nine (25.71%) with positive Xpert Carba-R results in BALF were declined for lung transplantation. Twenty-six recipients and the matching CRO-negative donor lungs (74.29%) were included in the Xpert Carba-R screening group. In the control group, nineteen recipients underwent lung transplants without Xpert Carba-R screening. The incidence and mortality of CRO-associated DDI were collected and contrasted between the two groups. Results: Multivariate analysis showed that CRO-related death due to DDI within 60 days was significantly lower in the Xpert Carba-R screening group than that in the control group (OR = 0.05, 95% CI 0.003–0.74, p = 0.03). Conclusion: Real-time CRO screening of donor lungs before transplantation at the point of care by the Xpert Carba-R helps clinicians formulate lung transplantation strategies quickly and reduces the risk of subsequent CRO infection improving the prognosis of lung transplantation. Gastric neoplasm is a high‐mortality cancer worldwide. Chemoresistance is the obstacle against gastric cancer treatment. Mitochondrial dysfunction has been observed to promote malignant progression. However, the underlying mechanism is still unclear. The mitokine growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15) is a significant biomarker for mitochondrial disorder and is activated by the integrated stress response (ISR) pathway. The serum level of GDF15 was found to be correlated with the poor prognosis of gastric cancer patients. In this study, we found that high GDF15 protein expression might increase disease recurrence in adjuvant chemotherapy‐treated gastric cancer patients. Moreover, treatment with mitochondrial inhibitors, especially oligomycin (a complex V inhibitor) and salubrinal (an ISR activator), respectively, was found to upregulate GDF15 and enhance cisplatin insensitivity of human gastric cancer cells. Mechanistically, it was found that the activating transcription factor 4‐C/EBP homologous protein pathway has a crucial function in the heightened manifestation of GDF15. In addition, reactive oxygen species‐activated general control nonderepressible 2 mediates the oligomycin‐induced ISR, and upregulates GDF15. The GDF15–glial cell‐derived neurotrophic factor family receptor a‐like–ISR–cystine/glutamate transporter‐enhanced glutathione production was found to be involved in cisplatin resistance. These results suggest that mitochondrial dysfunction might enhance cisplatin insensitivity through GDF15 upregulation, and targeting mitokine GDF15–ISR regulation might be a strategy against cisplatin resistance of gastric cancer. Aim: To examine the actual conditions of older patients receiving home medical care after hospitalization over a period of 2 years in Japan. Methods: The study population included 102 participants, aged ≥65 years, receiving home medical care, who consented to participate in the Osaka Home Care Registry (OHCARE) study in Japan over a period of 2 years. We investigated the actual conditions for returning home after hospitalization. Results: The median age of the 102 participants was 84 years, and 61 (59.8%) were women. In the group that returned home, 42 (55.3%) of the respondents desired to recuperate in a familiar place, as in advanced care planning (ACP). During the 2‐year follow‐up period, the group that did not return home had significantly more deaths. A multivariate analysis showed the association in the presence of ACP (odds ratio: 4.72, 95% confidence interval: 1.60–13.86) and cardiac disease (odds ratio: 0.25, 95% confidence interval: 0.08–0.76). The lack of ACP in the medical records when the patient was admitted to the hospital may have prevented the return home. Conclusion: In older patients who had difficulty returning home after hospitalization, the lack of ACP in home medical care may have been an influencing factor. Underground cable trench inspection robots work in narrow, variable friction coefficient, and complex road environments. The running trajectory easily deviates from the desired path and leads to a collision, or even the destruction of the robot or cable. Addressing this problem, a path-following control method for the dual-tracked chassis robot based on a self-coupling PID (SCPID) control algorithm was developed. The caterpillar robot dynamics were modelled and both the unknown dynamics and external bounded disturbances were defined as sum disturbances, thus mapping the nonlinear system into a linearly disturbed system, then the self-coupling PD (SCPD) controller was designed. The system proved to be a robust stability control system and only one parameter, the velocity factor, needed to be tuned to achieve parameter calibration. Meanwhile, to solve the problem that the error-based speed factor is not universal and to improve the adaptive ability of the SCPD controller, an iterative method was used for adaptive tuning. The simulation results showed that the SCPID can achieve better control. The field test results showed that the SCPD's maximum offset angle was 56.7% and 10.3% smaller than incremental PID and sliding mode control (SMC), respectively. Fertilizer application is an important material basis to ensure crop growth, and special formula fertilizer for rapeseed is widely used in production as a key technology for light and simplified planting of rapeseed. The appropriate dosage of special formula fertilizer for rapeseed that clearly takes into account the dual objectives of abundant yield and high quality will provide key technical support for green and high-quality production of rape-seed. Five fertilizer dosages of 0, 450, 600, 750 and 900 kg/hm2 were set through field trials at three locations in Jiangling County, Shayang County and Honghu City, Hubei Province, in 2020-2021 to study the effects of different dedicated formula fertilizer dosages on rape yield, yield composition factors, nutrient content and quality. Application of the dedicated formula fertilizer significantly increased the number of corners per plant, the number of grains per corner and the thousand grain weight, which in turn enhanced the yield of rapeseed. Compared with the no-fertilizer treatment, the number of corms per plant, number of grains per corner and thousand grain weight increased by 277.4%, 17.9% and 9.2%, respectively, and the yield of rapeseed increased by 183%-300% when the special formula fertilizer was applied at a rate of 900 kg/hm ². The application of canola-specific formula fertilizer significantly affected the oil and protein content of rapeseed. Compared with the no-fertilizer treatment, the protein content of rapeseed was highest at the special formula fertilizer dosage of 900 kg/hm2, with a growth rate of 16.0%-34.6%; the oil content was lowest at the fertilizer dosage of 900 kg/hm2, with a decrease of 4.4%-11.6% compared to the no-fertilizer treatment. Correlation analysis showed that the increase of special fertilizer significantly increased rapeseed yield, water content, protein, erucic acid and fatty acid composition, and reduced glucosinolate content in rapeseed. Taking into account the yield, rapeseed quality and feed, a special fertilizer dosage of 750-900 kg/hm2 could achieve higher rapeseed yield and protein yield with less increase in the production of glucosinolate, erucic acid and saturated fatty acid in rapeseed and Increased oil production. Enterospora epinepheli is an intranuclear microsporidian parasite causing serious emaciative disease in hatchery‐bred juvenile groupers (Epinephelus spp.). Rapid and sensitive detection is urgently needed as its chronic infection tends to cause emaciation as well as white faeces syndrome and results in fry mortality. This study established a TaqMan probe‐based real‐time quantitative PCR assays targeting the small subunit rRNA (SSU) gene of E. epinepheli. The relationship between the standard curve of cycle threshold (Ct) and the logarithmic starting quantity (SQ) was determined as Ct = −3.177 lg (SQ) + 38.397. The correlation coefficient (R2) was 0.999, and the amplification efficiency was 106.4%. The detection limit of the TaqMan probe‐based qPCR assay was 1.0 × 101 copies/μL and that is 100 times sensitive than the traditional PCR method. There is no cross‐reaction with other aquatic microsporidia such as Ecytonucleospora hepatopenaei, Nucleospora hippocampi, Potaspora sp., Ameson portunus. The intra‐assay and inter‐assay showed great repeatability and reproducibility. In addition, the test of clinical samples showed that this assay effectively detected E. epinepheli in the grouper's intestine tissue. A new naphthoquinone derivative (1) together with twenty-three known compounds (2–24), were isolated from the aerial parts of Rubia cordifolia L. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of NMR and HR-ESIMS data. Compounds 1–13 were assessed for their inhibitory effects on NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. In the last decade, biochar application research has emerged as a hot topic in water treatment studies, which made biochar adsorption one of the primary wastewater treatment strategies. This paper presents a global bibliometric analysis of 2673 publications from the Web of Science database, spanning 2011–2022. For a comprehensive understanding of the research status and trends in biochar adsorption for wastewater treatment, the advanced quantitative and visual analysis tools (i.e., CiteSpace and ArcGIS) were employed. The results showed that China emerged as the leading country with the most published articles. The key research area is on the magnetic adsorption of biochar in wastewater. The articles summarized in the review demonstrated unequivocally that biochar can treat a wide range of wastewater even though the adsorption mechanisms of biochar on heavy metals, inorganic salts and organic pollutants in wastewater are not entirely consistent. The review further analyzes the factors affecting the performance of biochar in adsorbing pollutants from wastewater and the improvement measures of biochar functional characteristics, proposing the future research directions focusing on the improvement of the adsorption capacity of biochar products. The information synthesis and discussion would provide valuable insights on the historical, current, and future trends in biochar research, beneficial to solve the practical problems of water pollution and improve the quality of the environment. Introduction: The relationship among physiologic reserve, intrinsic capacity, and physical resilience has not been examined, and a conceptual model that includes these key determinants of healthy ageing is needed. This study aimed to test a conceptual model using real-world data to determine the relationships among physiologic reserve, intrinsic capacity, physical resilience, and clinical outcomes. Methods: This longitudinal study was conducted at a 1,343-bed tertiary-care medical centre. Patients were eligible for inclusion if they were 65 years of age or older and able to communicate independently. Demographic factors, cumulative illness rating scale for geriatrics [CIRS-G] (assessing physiologic reserve), intrinsic capacity, physical resilience instrument for older adults [PRIFOR] (assessing physical resilience), and clinical frailty scale [CFS] were collected at admission. The CFS and EuroQoL 5-dimension 3-level questionnaire [EQ5D] were administered at discharge. Results: The mean age of the 413 patients was 76.34 ± 6.72 (52.5% female). Two conceptual models were identified and supported. Specifically, the path coefficients in the two models showed that the CIRS-G had diverse associations with each intrinsic capacity domain, and that all intrinsic capacity domains (except vitality) were significantly associated with PRIFOR. Moreover, PRIFOR was significantly associated with follow-up CFS, baseline control, and EQ5D scores. Conclusion: Physiologic reserve positively correlated with the cognitive and locomotive domains of intrinsic capacity. Moreover, older patients with better intrinsic capacity may have improved physical resilience, which may lead to better clinical outcomes. Background: There is conflicting evidence on association between quick sequential organ failure assessment (qSOFA) and sepsis mortality in ICU patients. The primary aim of this study was to determine the association between qSOFA and 28-day mortality in ICU patients admitted for sepsis. Association of qSOFA with early (3-day), medium (28-day), late (90-day) mortality was assessed in low and lower middle income (LLMIC), upper middle income (UMIC) and high income (HIC) countries/regions. Methods: This was a secondary analysis of the MOSAICS II study, an international prospective observational study on sepsis epidemiology in Asian ICUs. Associations between qSOFA at ICU admission and mortality were separately assessed in LLMIC, UMIC and HIC countries/regions. Modified Poisson regression was used to determine the adjusted relative risk (RR) of qSOFA score on mortality at 28 days with adjustments for confounders identified in the MOSAICS II study. Results: Among the MOSAICS II study cohort of 4980 patients, 4826 patients from 343 ICUs and 22 countries were included in this secondary analysis. Higher qSOFA was associated with increasing 28-day mortality, but this was only observed in LLMIC (p < 0.001) and UMIC (p < 0.001) and not HIC (p = 0.220) countries/regions. Similarly, higher 90-day mortality was associated with increased qSOFA in LLMIC (p < 0.001) and UMIC (p < 0.001) only. In contrast, higher 3-day mortality with increasing qSOFA score was observed across all income countries/regions (p < 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that qSOFA remained associated with 28-day mortality (adjusted RR 1.09 (1.00–1.18), p = 0.038) even after adjustments for covariates including APACHE II, SOFA, income country/region and administration of antibiotics within 3 h. Conclusions: qSOFA was independently associated with 28-day mortality in ICU patients admitted for sepsis. A deep learning model was developed to identify osteoporosis from chest X-ray (CXR) features with high accuracy in internal and external validation. It has significant prognostic implications, identifying individuals at higher risk of all-cause mortality. This Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled CXR strategy may function as an early detection screening tool for osteoporosis. The aim of this study was to develop a deep learning model (DLM) to identify osteoporosis via CXR features and investigate the performance and clinical implications. This study collected 48,353 CXRs with the corresponding T score according to Dual energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) from the academic medical center. Among these, 35,633 CXRs were used to identify CXR- Osteoporosis (CXR-OP). Another 12,720 CXRs were used to validate the performance, which was evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). Furthermore, CXR-OP was tested to assess the long-term risks of mortality, which were evaluated by Kaplan‒Meier survival analysis and the Cox proportional hazards model. The DLM utilizing CXR achieved AUCs of 0.930 and 0.892 during internal and external validation, respectively. The group that underwent DXA with CXR-OP had a higher risk of all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR] 2.59, 95% CI: 1.83–3.67), and those classified as CXR-OP in the group without DXA also had higher all-cause mortality (HR: 1.67, 95% CI: 1.61–1.72) in the internal validation set. The external validation set produced similar results. Our DLM uses CXRs for early detection of osteoporosis, aiding physicians to identify those at risk. Background: Patients with influenza-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are critically ill and require mechanical ventilation (MV) support. Prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) is often seen in these cases and the optimal management strategy is not established. This study aimed to investigate risk factors for PMV and factors related to weaning failure in these patients. Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted by eight medical centers in Taiwan. All patients in the intensive care unit with virology-proven influenza-related ARDS requiring invasive MV from January 1 to March 31, 2016, were included. Demographic data, critical illness data and clinical outcomes were collected and analyzed. PMV is defined as mechanical ventilation use for more than 21 days. Results: There were 263 patients with influenza-related ARDS requiring invasive MV enrolled during the study period. Seventy-eight patients had PMV. The final weaning rate was 68.8% during 60 days of observation. The mortality rate in PMV group was 39.7%. Risk factors for PMV were body mass index (BMI) > 25 (kg/m2) [odds ratio (OR) 2.087; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.006–4.329], extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) use (OR 6.181; 95% CI 2.338–16.336), combined bacterial pneumonia (OR 4.115; 95% CI 2.002–8.456) and neuromuscular blockade use over 48 h (OR 2.8; 95% CI 1.334–5.879). In addition, risk factors for weaning failure in PMV patients were ECMO (OR 5.05; 95% CI 1.75–14.58) use and bacteremia (OR 3.91; 95% CI 1.20–12.69). Conclusions: Patients with influenza-related ARDS and PMV have a high mortality rate. Risk factors for PMV include BMI > 25, ECMO use, combined bacterial pneumonia and neuromuscular blockade use over 48 h. Semantic part detection within an object is of importance in the field of computer vision. This study proposes a novel approach to semantic part detection that starts by employing a convolutional neural network to concatenate a selection of feature maps from the network into a long vector for pixel representation. Using this dedicated pixel representation, we implement a range of techniques, such as Poisson disk sampling for pixel sampling and Poisson matting for pixel label correction. These techniques efficiently facilitate the training of a practical pixel classifier for part detection. Our experimental exploration investigated various factors that affect the model’s performance, including training data labeling (with or without the aid of Poisson matting), hypercolumn representation dimensionality, neural network architecture, post-processing techniques, and pixel classifier selection. The use of Bacillus circulans as the sole starter provides better process control compared to natural fermentation. However, the chemical composition of fermented Tibetan tea by B. circulans and its regulatory effects on the intestine–liver axis has not been reported. For this purpose, a high-resolution liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry metabolomics approach was performed. The effects of fermented Tibetan tea on the intestine–liver axis of mice were also evaluated. Untargeted metabolomics analysis showed that the contents of catechin derivatives, flavonoids, phenolic acids, and terpenoids increased by 0.3, 2.38, 2.65, and 3.36%, respectively, compared with those before fermentation. Furthermore, 16S ribosomal RNA sequence analysis revealed that the relative abundance of Lactobacillus spp. in the intestine increased after consumption of fermented tea. Additionally, based on histological and quantitative PCR analyses, fermented Tibetan tea also improved intestinal development and intestinal barrier function in mouse, while increasing the antioxidant capacity of mouse liver. Thus, fermented Tibetan tea could provide beneficial health effects through the intestine–liver axis. These findings have facilitated the study of the chemical composition of Tibetan tea and provided theoretical support for its use as a natural beverage with intestinal probiotic functions. Background: Autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) can cause enormous health burdens; however, trustworthy biomarkers in identifying the onset and progression of AITD are limited. In this study, we attempted to discover new potential serum biomarkers to discriminate AITD using mass spectrometry (MS). Methods: In the biomarker study cohort, 20 patients with Graves' disease (GD), 20 patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), and 20 healthy controls were enrolled for a liquid chromatographic-tandem MS assessment. A novel biomarker, keratin 1 (KRT1), was selected for further evaluation in the validation cohort, including 125 patients with GD, 34 patients with HT, and 77 controls. Relationships of serum KRT1 with AITD-related immunomodulatory cytokines were also analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs). Results: In the MS analysis, KRT1 was the single marker overexpressed in GD, while it was underexpressed in HT. In the ELISA analysis of the validation cohort, KRT1 was consistently upregulated in GD, while it was not downregulated in HT. There were significant associations of KRT1 levels with thyroid function in GD, AITD, and overall subjects. Additionally, a significant association of KRT1 levels with thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibody (TSHRAb) levels was observed. Moreover, there were significant associations of KRT1 with osteopontin (OPN) and B-cell activating factor (BAFF) levels in GD. Conclusions: Serum KRT1 levels were upregulated in GD and were associated with thyroid function and TSHRAb levels. Moreover, KRT1 was correlated with the BAFF and OPN levels in GD patients. Background: Despite the well‐established efficacies of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), there is limited real‐world evidence comparing their effectiveness according to patients' clinical characteristics. This network meta‐analysis (NMA) compared survival outcomes among first‐line EGFR‐TKIs in different subgroups of East Asian patients with advanced NSCLC. Methods: This NMA included real‐world observational studies reporting outcomes with TKIs in patients aged >65 years, with baseline brain metastasis, with different Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) statuses, or with different common EGFR mutation types. Results: In patients with the EGFR L858R mutation, afatinib resulted in significantly longer progression‐free survival (PFS) than erlotinib (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.59, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.46–0.75) and gefitinib (HR: 0.41, 95% CI: 0.32–0.53). Similarly, in patients with the EGFR Del19 mutation, afatinib and erlotinib resulted in significantly longer PFS than gefitinib (HR: 0.48 with 95% CI: 0.33–0.71 and HR: 0.54 with 95% CI: 0.36–0.80, respectively). Moreover, afatinib resulted in significantly longer PFS than gefitinib in patients with brain metastasis (HR: 0.53, 95% CI: 0.33–0.87) or ECOG status 0–1 (HR: 0.37, 95% CI: 0.23–0.59). Conclusion: This NMA suggests that afatinib results in similar PFS to erlotinib and superior PFS than gefitinib in patients with Del19 mutant NSCLC, aged ≥65 years, with ECOG scores of 0–1, and with baseline brain metastasis. Optical frequency combs provide a powerful tool for precise measurement of the optical frequency, holding significant importance in fields such as spectroscopy, optical communication and optical clock. The frequency stability of the comb line determines the precision of the frequency measurement, but the delicate interplay between high precision, low power consumption and integration still needs to be optimized. To this aim, here we demonstrate a frequency measurement scheme based on a fully stabilized electro-optic comb, in which the pump laser frequency and repetition rate are independently locked to the atomic transition and microwave signal. The measurement precision of the demonstrated wavemeter can reach sub-kHz-level, and the parallel measurement of multiple wavelengths can be performed. Therefore, by combining the technical scheme reported here with advanced integrated functional devices, our system is expected to provide a feasible solution for chip-scale frequency precision measurement and reference. Optical frequency combs enable precise measurement of optical frequencies, but integrated setups require a delicate balance between high precision and low power consumption. Background: Prior psychometric evidence of the Physical Resilience Instrument for Older Adults (PRIFOR) showed good criterion-related validity, concurrent validity, known-group validity, predictive validity, and internal consistency. However, it is unclear whether older patients with different treatment diagnoses interpret the PRIFOR similarly. Aims: This study aimed to test the psychometric properties of the PRIFOR scores among different treatment diagnoses of older patients. Methods: We recruited 413 hospitalized older patients with a medical diagnosis and 207 with a surgical diagnosis in a 1343-bed tertiary-care medical center in Taiwan. Data analyses included Rasch models, Principal Components Analysis (PCA), and Pearson correlations. Results: The Rasch analyses showed that all PRIFOR items were embedded within their belonged constructs, reflecting good construct validity and unidimensionality. Person and item separation reliability support the internal consistency of the studied samples and PRIFOR items. However, six PRIFOR items were found to have meaningful differential item functioning (DIF) problems among treatment diagnoses. Conclusions: The PRIFOR is a solid measurement and can be used for monitoring the status of older adults' physical resilience. However, because six items were found to have meaningful DIF among treatment diagnosis groups, future studies should consider designing specific items for different patient populations to assess their needs in physical resilience. We hypothesized that older patients who underwent a urinary catheter removal protocol would not have an increased risk of postoperative complications. We further hypothesized that the revised protocol would be more suitable for clinical application. This study aimed to develop a urinary catheter removal protocol after Transurethral Resection of the Prostate and to assess the feasibility of the protocol to support catheter removal and promote recovery of self‐voiding function. Delayed catheter removal after Transurethral Resection of the Prostate was associated with urinary tract infection and longer hospital stays. However, no strategy has been described to promote recovery of self‐voiding function after catheter removal after Transurethral Resection of the Prostate. The urinary catheter removal protocol was developed through expert consensus, including strategies for caring for urinary catheters, assessment of urinary catheter removal, and strategies after urinary catheter removal. Moreover, a quasi‐experimental design was adopted in the urology ward of a tertiary care medical centre in southern Taiwan. Patients aged ≥65 years who underwent Transurethral Resection of the Prostate were included. A total of 13 patients (intervention = 5; control = 8) were included in the feasibility evaluation. A urinary catheter removal protocol after Transurethral Resection of the Prostate was developed and the consensus among experts on the urinary catheter removal protocol was 99%. There were no significant differences in terms of bleeding, urine retention, urinary tract infection, or re‐catheterization between the two groups. However, in the intervention group, the pain score decreased significantly on the second day after Transurethral Resection of the Prostate. This revised urinary catheter removal protocol after Transurethral Resection of the Prostate may be suitable for clinical applications. However, small size reduces the statistical power of the findings and further studies are needed to examine the current protocol does not have an increased risk of postoperative complications. Background: Oral squamous cell carcinoma is an increasingly prevalent cancer type characterized by high incidence and mortality rates. Its early detection is challenging, primarily because of the absence of early molecular markers. Cuproptosis is a novel regulatory mechanism of cell death with implications in various cancers. In this study, we aimed to study cuproptosis‐related genes in oral squamous cell carcinoma to identify their prognostic value. Methods: By analyzing genomic, bulk RNA‐seq, and single‐cell RNA‐seq data, we investigated 13 cuproptosis‐related genes in The Cancer Genome Atlas‐Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma dataset and Gene Expression Omnibus repository (GSE172577). Results: ATP7A, ATP7B, and DLST were the most frequently mutated genes, with nine of our studied genes associated with overall survival. Single‐cell analysis was conducted to identify cuproptosis‐related tumor cells in oral squamous cell carcinoma, which revealed two distinct patterns based on the expression of cuproptosis‐related genes. These patterns exhibit differences in genetic alterations and tumor immune microenvironment. Finally, we developed a cuproptosis index using a random forest algorithm based on cuproptosis pattern‐related genes in which higher levels were linked to poorer prognosis. Background: COVID-19 and the subsequent intermittent lockdown measures from 2020 to 2022 in China critically disrupted regular medical activities, including dental care. This study aimed to investigate the impact of COVID-19 on long-term follow-up at the Stomatology Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine and to evaluate potential causes of loss to follow-up. Methods: A total of 1062 patients with periodontitis who visited the hospital from January 2019 to June 2022 were included in this study, and patient information was collected retrospectively in the form of a telephone questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 19 questions in four areas: demographic characteristics, clinical periodontal parameters, oral hygiene habits, and follow-up-related open-ended questions (specific reasons for loss to follow-up, attitudes toward follow-up and suggestions for increasing participation in future follow-ups). Regression analysis of factors influencing the follow-up of patients with periodontitis were analyzed by regression analysis using R (v4.2.3) software. Results: A total of 536 (50.47%) valid questionnaires were collected from 1062 patients. Personal factors (42.5%), instead of the COVID-19 epidemic (20.0%), were the main factors that impacted the loss to follow-up in long-term periodontal treatment, while work factors (19.8%), hospital factors (16.4%), and transportation or distance factors (14.7%) were all important factors. A family history of periodontitis [odds ratio (OR) = 0.567, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.393, 0.817, p = 0.002], as well as frequent use of dental devices (OR = 0.540, 95% CI: 0.375, 0.777, p = 0.001), were significantly associated with a "negative" attitude toward follow-up visits. Conclusion: This survey suggests that the COVID-19 epidemic factor was an important cause contributed to the loss to follow-up during supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) among a variety of potential factors. Tongue diagnosis is a useful process in traditional Chinese medicine to assess diseases non-invasively by visually inspecting the tongue and its various properties. In this study, we developed an automated tongue diagnosis system with a mobile app for the general public. The image-segmentation component extracts the tongue body image from an input photograph taken by a smartphone. The tongue-coating color classification component predicts the category of the coating color. The segmented image and diagnosis results are returned to the app and shown to the user. Experimental results show that Mask R-CNN is the optimal choice for tongue-image segmentation under various input image conditions based on the mean interaction over union value of 91 % and the Dice score of 95 % . ResNeXt outperformed other baseline tongue-coating color classification models. In addition, when the input image is adjusted with our color-correction modules in advance, the classification accuracy of ResNeXt101 is improved by approximately 12 % . [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new lithophytic species, Paraboea zunyiensis T.Deng, F.Wen & R.B.Zhang (Gesneriaceae), inhabiting Karst rocks in northern Guizhou, China, is introduced and depicted in this study. It bears a resemblance to P. crassifolia (Hemsl.) B.L. Burtt, yet is distinguishable by its shorter filaments and staminodes, triangular ovate calyx segments, and ovaries surpassing the styles in length. Moreover, the phylogenetic tree constructed from nuclear DNA (ITS) and plastid DNA (trnL-F) data firmly support the differentiation of this novel species from P. crassifolia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The upstream basin of Hanjiang River is an important water source for the middle route of China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project. The quality of water and soil in the Hanjiang River have enormous biological and environmental impacts, and resistant genetic contamination has emerged, but only few studies are concerned the correlation between heavy metals and metal resistance genes (MRGs). In this study, 8 antibiotics and 19 heavy metals were analyzed, the results showed that the highest antibiotic content was tetracycline, with mean concentrations of 43.201 µg/kg and 0.022 µg/L. Mn was the highest heavy metal in soil with a content of 1408.284 µg/kg, and in water was Zn with a content of 10.611 µg/L. We found that the most abundant antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and metal resistance genes (MRGs) in the study area were bacA and arsT genes, coding for resistance mechanisms to bacitracin and arsenic, respectively. The data showed that heavy metals had a greater impact on antibiotic resistance genes than antibiotics, and the correlation between resistance genes was significantly positive. This work expands our understanding of the correlations of antibiotics, heavy metals, and resistance genes in the Hanjiang River, indicating that more attention should be paid to the effects of resistance genes and the quality of water. Sepsis remains a critical concern in healthcare, and its management is complicated when patients have pre-existing diabetes and varying body mass indexes (BMIs). This retrospective multicenter observational study, encompassing data from 15,884 sepsis patients admitted between 2012 and 2017, investigates the relationship between peak glucose levels and peak glycemic gap in the first 3 days of ICU admission, and their impact on mortality. The study reveals that maintaining peak glucose levels between 141–220 mg/dL is associated with improved survival rates in sepsis patients with diabetes. Conversely, peak glycemic gaps exceeding 146 mg/dL are linked to poorer survival outcomes. Patients with peak glycemic gaps below −73 mg/dL also experience inferior survival rates. In terms of predicting mortality, modified Sequential Organ Failure Assessment–Peak Glycemic Gap (mSOFA-pgg) scores outperform traditional SOFA scores by 6.8% for 90-day mortality in overweight patients. Similarly, the modified SOFA-Peak Glucose (mSOFA-pg) score demonstrates a 17.2% improvement over the SOFA score for predicting 28-day mortality in underweight patients. Importantly, both mSOFA-pg and mSOFA-pgg scores exhibit superior predictive power compared to traditional SOFA scores for patients at high nutritional risk. These findings underscore the importance of glycemic control in sepsis management and highlight the potential utility of the mSOFA-pg and mSOFA-pgg scores in predicting mortality risk, especially in patients with diabetes and varying nutritional statuses.
