Negative-sequence current is required to be intentionally injected to support the power grid or compensate the imbalanced load in asymmetrical faults utilizing STATCOM. However, the extreme compensation range of negative-sequence current injection becomes complicated when grid voltage becomes asymmetrical. This article presents a novel off-line strategy for negative-sequence current compensation under two typical kinds of asymmetrical grid faults — single-phase voltage drop and double-phase voltage drop, with the following two benefits simultaneously: maximizing negative current compensation capacity; avoiding iterations and reducing computation burdens. In this paper, the mechanism of DC voltage balancing among three phases in STATCOM is analyzed and a new identification method of negative-sequence current compensation range is explored out. To simplify the calculation, this paper takes the ratio of negative-sequence reactive (Iq-) and active (Id-) current as a variable (s). In this way, the relationship between the extreme compensation range, asymmetrical voltage sag depth of power grid h is drawn with MATLAB. Different from the previous iterative method, the off-line identification method is applied to avoid huge iterations. By fitting the curve, the precise ranges of negative-sequence current compensation under different asymmetrical grid faults are approximated as simple polynomials, thus significantly reducing the computation burdens. The dc power distribution has become a promising solution to powering datacenters, which can reduce power conversion steps and total power losses. However, both of the two most promising options, 380 V and 48 V dc power distributions, have their own defects that cannot be ignored, such as 380 V dc power distributions have lower reliability and 48 V dc power distributions have lower efficiency. In this article, a three-port LCC resonant converter is proposed to eliminate the above-mentioned defects by combining the aforementioned dc distributions to form a 380-V/48-V hybrid dc system. A full-bridge LCC converter is used to transfer power to the 380 V load, whereas a bidirectional LCC converter is used to charge the 48-V battery packs, and the two are magnetically coupled by a three-port transformer. The converter realizes zero-voltage switching of all switches and zero-current switching of rectifying diodes through resonance. The battery charging current is controlled by changing the frequency of all switches to achieve the switch of constant-current charging and constant-voltage charging, and the phase-shift control is adopted to keep the output voltage constant. To realize a soft-switching inverter with small volume and high efficiency, a synchronous auxiliary resonant commutated pole (SARCP) soft-switching inverter with improved load adaptability is proposed, which only contains two auxiliary inductors. In one switching cycle, all commutation processes can be synchronously assisted by an auxiliary inductor. Soft switching is achievable for all switches of the SARCP inverter. Compared with the auxiliary resonant commutated pole (ARCP) inverter, the SARCP inverter has improved load adaptability, especially in the light load current condition, which is beneficial to reduce the total power loss and the dc-link capacitance. The equivalent circuits of the SARCP inverter are given under different operation modes. The operation principle, soft-switching implementation conditions, parameter optimization design methods, and the characteristics of the SARCP inverter are analyzed. This article proposed a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) converter based on modular multilevel converter (MMC), which can realize long-distance dc transmission while realizing the local consumption of PV. In addition to the advantage that there is no PV power mismatch between the upper and lower arms, the isolation transformer couples the two submodules of the upper and lower arms on a three-port transformer, and the differential-mode components of the capacitor voltage ripples in the upper and lower arms can be canceled between each other. Besides, through the double fundamental frequency circulating current control, the power exchange among MMC phase units can be realized, thereby eliminating the common-mode component of the capacitor voltage ripple. Through the combination of topology and control strategy, the low-frequency components of the voltage ripple can be completely canceled. Since the decoupling capacitance is reduced dozens of times, the volume and cost of the system are significantly reduced. Therefore, the life and reliability of the system are increased. In this article, a dual active bridge (DAB)–LLC–DCX dc–dc converter with integrated magnetics and shared rectifier is proposed for point of load applications, which is able to achieve tight voltage regulation, zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation for all switches and zero-current switching operation for rectifier. The challenge of the proposed converter is the realization of ZVS operation for all the switches within full power range to achieve high efficiency and high reliability, which is beneficial for light load efficiency improvement of microprocessors. Therefore, with different input voltage range, a hybrid control strategy is proposed to realize ZVS operation for all switches of the proposed converter within full power range in this article. When at high input voltage, extended phase shift control is applied to extend the ZVS range. When at low input voltage, variable gain LLC converter is designed to regulate the voltage distribution among DAB converter and LLC converter for the ZVS operation of DAB converter. Besides, the charging/discharging of junction capacitors are added into consideration of ZVS analysis. The operating principle, design considerations, and control schemes are presented. The large-capacity electrically excited synchronous machines are widely applied in modern industrial production, and starting issues have become one of the most concerns of the synchronous motors in practical operation, such as the long starting time, large current shock, and poor adaption to a wide-ranging load. To deal with these starting problems, many starting methods have been proposed in previous studies. Regrettably, high-performance methods depend on specific motor parameters and complex sensorless technology, while simple and low-cost methods are low performance. In this article, a modified back-to-back starting method is proposed for large-capacity synchronous machines based on virtual synchronous generator (VSG) technology, where the cascaded H-bridge converter is controlled as a VSG to replace the prime mover and synchronous generator of the conventional back-to-back starting system. To reduce the current shock, an initial relative-angle regulator is designed. To improve the robustness in the presence of a wide-ranging load, a damping torque branch is adopted. Extra speed sensors are no longer required since the VSG speed is directly applied in the feedback control loop. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, extensive simulation and experimental results are presented. Threaded joints are key components of core drilling tools. Currently, core drilling tools generally adopt the thread structure designed by the API Spec 7-1 standard. However, fractures easily occur in this thread structure due to high stress concentrations, resulting in downhole accidents. In this paper, according to the needs of large-diameter core drilling, a core barrel joint was designed with an outer diameter of Φ135 mm and a trapezoidal thread profile. Subsequently, a three-dimensional simulation model of the joint was established. The influence of the external load, connection state and thread structure on the stress distribution in the joint was analyzed through simulations, from which the optimal thread structure was determined. Finally, a connection test was carried out on the threaded joint. The stress distribution in the joint thread was indirectly studied by analyzing gas leaks (i.e., the sealing effect) under axial tension. LLC resonant converter can achieve zero voltage switching (ZVS) for primary-side devices and zero current switching (ZCS) for secondary-side rectifiers. However, the reverse recovery and junction capacitance (Cj) of secondary-side diode critically affect the ZVS condition of primary-side switches. The effect of Cj has been discussed in literature, but not the reverse recovery. In this paper, the reverse recovery charge (Qrr) is converted to an equivalent capacitance $(C_{{\rm rr}\_{\rm eq}})$ for the study of primary-side ZVS performance. An accurate model during deadtime is derived and further applied to characterize ZVS performance with different reverse recovery charges in different regions. The concept of establishing parameter Ctotal to consider both Cj and $C_{{\rm rr}\_{\rm eq}}$ is proposed to evaluate the effect of the secondary-side rectifiers. This concept provides the guideline for diode and synchronous rectification mosfet selection to ensure ZVS condition for LLC converters. To verify the concept and the derived model, a 200/400 V 400 W LLC resonant converter prototype operating from 200 to 700 kHz is built and its ZVS performances with different diodes are compared. Lifetime is an important performance factor in the reliable operation of power converters. However, the state-of-the-art LC filter design of a buck dc–dc converter is limited to the specifications of voltage and current ripples and constrains in power density and cost without reliability considerations. This paper proposes a method to optimize the design of the LC filters from a reliability perspective, besides other considerations. An enhanced model is derived to quantify the lifetime of the capacitor in the filter considering the electrothermal stress on it. Furthermore, the influence of different design aspects such as the value of capacitance, the value of inductance, and the type of the capacitor have been discussed, focusing on their impacts on the key design objectives, which are the cutoff frequency, lifetime, and volume. This paper studies a regenerative cascaded multilevel converter that substitutes active front ends for the diode-based front ends only in part of cells, and proposes a power tracking control strategy that does not need any motor parameters. During the induction motor's deceleration, by controlling the two kinds of cells' output voltages according to the motor's power factor angle, the converter makes the motor-generated energy wholly collected by regenerative cells; thus, other cells' dc-link voltages remain stable. Regeneration limitation is analyzed. The simulation results of a 6-kV six-cell cascaded converter and experiments on a laboratory cascaded converter verify that the converter can transfer the motor power back to the grid and allows the motor to decelerate more quickly.
