Ingestion of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) via contaminated food contact materials (FCMs) is an important human exposure source. This study adopts a toxicity equivalent approach to evaluate the collective health risk of multiple PFAAs in FCMs. A comprehensive extraction and analysis of 21 PFAAs in FCMs was performed. Among the analyzed substances, 15 PFAAs were detected. Migration experiment using three food simulants revealed the migration range of seven PFAAs from FCMs into the simulant to be 0.47–46.7 ng/cm2. The hazard quotient results suggest minimal health risk, except for 9% of packaged samples where perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) poses a higher risk. Utilizing PFOA toxic equivalent concentrations, comprehensive risk calculations showed ∼77% of samples potentially posing elevated health risks due to PFAA exposure. This emphasizes the substantial contribution of PFAAs beyond PFOA and underscores the importance of considering them in related assessments. In recent years, the prevalence and danger of organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) have drawn attention from all around the world. This study examined twenty-five OPFRs observed in water and sediment samples from the Qiantang River in eastern China, as well as their occurrence, spatial distribution, possible origins, and ecological hazards. All the 25 OPFRs were detected in water and sediment samples. The levels of Σ25OPFRs in water and sediment were 35.5–192 ng/L and 8.84–48.5 ng/g dw, respectively. Chlorinated OPFRs were the main contributions in water, whereas alkyl-OPFRs were the most common congeners found in sediment. Spatial analysis revealed that sample locations in neighboring cities had somewhat higher water concentrations of OPFRs. Slowing down the river current and making the reservoir the main sink of OPFRs, the dam can prevent OPFRs from moving via the Qiantang River. Positive matrix factorization indicated that plasticizer in polyvinyl chloride, polyester resins, and polyurethane foam made the greatest contributions in water, whereas polyurethane foam and textile were the predominant source in sediment. Analysis of sediment–water exchange of OPFRs showed that twelve OPFRs in sediments can re-enter into the water body. Taiyuan in the Shanxi Province of China has experienced significant air pollution from fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the past years. Phthalate esters (PAEs), which are common semi-volatile chemical molecules in PM2.5 and that humans can breathe into their bodies, can have serious health consequences. This study looked at the levels, composition, sources, and incremental lifetime lung cancer risk factors for PM2.5-bound PAEs in Taiyuan. A QuEChERS extraction technique and gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry were used to evaluate 16 PAE compounds. All samples contained PAEs, and the overall PAE concentration ranged from 114 to 864 ng/m3. The most often detected compound was bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), and summer PAE concentrations were substantially greater than winter ones. A positive matrix factorization model showed that the main sources of PAE release were the indoor environment, industry source, automobile-related source, and construction source. The places within 300 km of Taiyuan were thought to have a significant impact on PAEs, according to the analysis of the prospective source contribution function. The calculated incremental lifetime lung cancer risk of DEHP exposure was 0.76 cases per million people. More of the risk of lung cancer has been attributed to indoor air pollution (53.2%). Medical applications of nanotechnology are promising in creating efficient and targeted therapies. However, so far, nanodrug design has not taken into consideration possible effects on human microbiota. The beneficial functions of bacteria could be stimulated by nanodrugs while negative effects on beneficial bacteria could cause risks to human health. Here, simulated intestinal fluid (IF) was optimized for culturing a human commensal and probiotic bacterial strain, Lactobacillus casei, to study the effects of medically relevant NPs—Ag and hyaluronic acid-coated Au NPs (HA-Au NPs)—in conditions pertinent to the gastrointestinal tract. When cultivated either aerobically or anaerobically, the specific growth rates of L. casei were ~0.2 h−1 in IF and ~0.4 h−1 in the standard medium of lactobacilli (MRS). Ag NPs inhibited the growth of L. casei in IF at lower concentrations (EC50 ~ 65 and 15 mg/L in aerobic and anaerobic conditions, respectively) than in MRS (EC50 > 100 mg/L), likely caused by differences in the composition of the two media and different intrinsic growth rates of bacteria in IF and MRS. Ag NP dissolution in IF and MRS did not explain the differences in growth inhibition, implying NP-specific effects. HA-Au NPs were not growth-inhibitory to L. casei up to 250 mg/L. Still, both NPs at sub-growth-inhibitory concentrations suppressed the expression of bacteriocin genes in L. casei, suggesting an inhibitory effect of NPs on the probiotic properties of L. casei, i.e., its competitiveness in microbial communities. However, HA-Au NPs did not appear to affect or even stimulated the immunomodulatory properties of L. casei in human intestinal epithelial cells. Thus, medically relevant NPs at low, sub-bacteriostatic levels can affect the metabolism of beneficial human bacteria and potentially induce changes in the microbiota and immune signaling. Carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) are widely used in industrial and medical sectors. The increasing exposure of CNMs necessitates the studies of their potential environmental and health effects. High-mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) is a nuclear DNA-binding protein, but when released from cells, may cause sustained inflammatory response and promote cell migration and invasion. In this work, we found that 7-day exposure of 2.5 mg/kg/day CNMs, including C60, single-walled carbon nanotubes, and graphene oxides significantly elevated the level of HMGB1 in blood and lung lavage fluids in C57BL/6 mice. Subsequently, cellular effects and underlying mechanism were explored by using Raw264.7. The results showed that noncytotoxic CNMs enhanced HMGB1 intracellular translocation and release via activating P2X7 receptor. Released HMGB1 further activated receptor for advanced glycation endproducts (RAGE) and downstream signaling pathway by upregulating RAGE and Rac1 expression. Simultaneously, CNMs prepared the cells for migration and invasion by modulating MMP2 and TIMP2 gene expression as well as cytoskeleton reorganization. Intriguingly, released HMGB1 from macrophages promoted the migration of nearby lung cancer cell, which can be efficiently inhibited by neutralizing antibodies against HMGB1 and RAGE. Taken together, our work demonstrated that CNMs stimulated HMGB1 release and cell migration/invasion through P2X7R-HMGB1-RAGE pathway. Previously, perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have been found to be associated with many adverse effects mediated by the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) and PPARγ. Here, we found another subtype of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs); the PPARβ/δ mediated pathway might also be a potential adverse outcome pathway for PFASs. We investigated the direct binding and transcriptional activity of PFASs toward human PPARβ/δ, and further revealed the structure-binding and structure–activity relationship between PFASs and PPARβ/δ. The receptor binding experiment showed that their binding potency was dependent on the carbon chain length and the terminal functional group. For twelve perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs), an inverted U-shaped relationship existed between the PPARβ/δ binding potency and the carbon chain length, with perfluorododecanoc acid (C12) showing the highest binding potency. The three perfluoroalkane sulfonic acids (PFSAs) exhibited a stronger binding potency than their PFCA counterparts. The two fluorotelomer alcohols (FTOHs) showed no binding potency. In receptor transcriptional activity assays, they enhanced the PPARβ/δ transcriptional activity. Their transcriptional activity was also related to the carbon chain length and the terminal functional group. Bisphenol analogues including bisphenol A and its derivatives are ubiquitous environmental contaminants and have been linked to adverse neurodevelopment effects on animals and humans. Most toxicological research focused on estrogen receptor mediated pathways and did not comprehensively clarify the observed toxicity. O-GlcNAcase (OGA), the highest level in brain, plays a critical role in controlling neuronal functions at multi-levels from molecule to animal behaviors. In this work, we intend to investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms for the neurotoxicity of bisphenol analogues by identifying their cellular targets and the resultant effects. The inhibitory actions of seven bisphenol analogues on the OGA activity at molecular level were investigated by our developed electrochemical biosensor. We found that their potency varied with substituent groups, in which tetrabromo bisphenol A (TBBPA) was the strongest. The seven bisphenol analogues (0–100 μM exposure) significantly inhibited OGA activity and up-regulated protein O-GlcNAcylation level in PC12 cells. Inhibition of OGA by bisphenol analogues further induced intracellular calcium, ROS, inflammation, repressed proliferation, interfered with cell cycle, induced apoptosis. And especially, 10 μM tetrabromo bisphenol A (TBBPA) exposure could impair the growth and development of neurite in human neural stem cells (hNSCs). Molecular docking for OGA/bisphenol analogue complexes revealed the hydrophobicity-dominated inhibition potency. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) can be metabolized to hydroxylated PBDEs (OH-PBDEs), which play important roles in their disruption effects on the thyroid hormone (TH) system. Recently, multiple in vitro studies suggested that OH-PBDEs might be further metabolically transformed to PBDE sulfates. However, information about the bioactivity of PBDE sulfate metabolites is limited. In the present study, we explored the possible disruption effects of PBDE sulfates to the TH system by studying their binding and activity towards TH transport proteins and nuclear receptors. We found PBDE sulfates could bind to two major TH transport proteins (thyroxine-binding globulin and transthyretin). Besides, PBDE sulfates could also bind to two subtypes of TH nuclear receptors (TRα and TRβ) and showed agonistic activity towards the subsequent signaling pathway. Moreover, the PBDE sulfates showed higher binding potency to TH transport proteins and TRs compared with their corresponding OH-PBDE precursors. Molecular docking results showed that replacement of hydroxyl groups with sulfate groups might lead to more hydrogen bond interactions with these proteins. Overall, our study suggested that PBDE sulfates might disturb the TH system by binding to TH transport proteins or TRs. Wide application of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) has raised great concerns on their side-effects on human health. PFAAs have been shown to accumulate mainly in the liver and cause hepatotoxicity. However, PFAAs can also deposit in lung tissues through air-borne particles and cause serious pulmonary toxicity. But the underlying mechanisms are still largely unknown. Autophagy is a type of programmed cell death parallel to necrosis and apoptosis, and may be involved in the lung toxicity of PFAAs. In this study, lung cancer cells, A549, were employed as the model to investigate the effects of three PFAAs with different carbon chain lengths on cell autophagy. Through Western blot analysis on LC3-I/II ratio of cells exposed to non-cytotoxic concentration (200 µM) and cytotoxic concentration (350 µM), we found concentration-dependent increase of autophagosomes in cells, which was further confirmed by TEM examination on ultra-thin section of cells and fluorescence imaging on autophagosomes in live cells. The abundance of p62 increased with the PFAAs concentration indicating the blockage of autophagy flux. Furthermore, we identified the mitochondrial autophagy (mitophagy) and endoplasmic reticulum autophagy (ER-phagy) morphologically as the major types of autophagy, suggesting the disruption on mitochondria and ERs. These organelle damages were confirmed by the overgeneration of ROS, hyperpolarization of mitochondrial membrane potential, as well as the up-regulation of ER-stress-related proteins, ATF4 and p-IRE1. Further analysis on the signaling pathways showed that PFAAs activated the MAPK pathways and inhibited the PI3K/Akt pathway, with potencies following the order of PFDA > PFNA > PFOA. Anti-oxidant (NAC) treatment did not rescue cells from death, indicating that oxidative stress is not the reason of cytotoxicity. Inhibition of autophagy by Atg5 siRNA and chloroquine even increased the toxicity of PFAAs, suggesting that PFAAs-autophagy was induced as the secondary effects of organelle damages and played a protective role during cell death. Heterogeneous catalytic reactions usually proceed at the surfaces of materials, where many intermediates, such as free radicals, usually were believed to be short-lived. Herein, surface long-lived superoxide radicals (O2Ṗ−) were identified in UV-irradiated aqueous suspensions of TiO2 and other metal oxide nanoparticles using an online chemiluminescence system. From the decay dynamics process of O2Ṗ−, a long-lived O2Ṗ− radical was observed on anatase TiO2 at pH = 12. After separation of the photo-excited suspension via filtration, CL was detected from the particles but not the filtrate, thus confirming O2Ṗ− surface adsorption. The unusual stability of O2Ṗ− was also verified using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The lifetimes of the radicals were estimated on the different kinds of semiconductor surface according to the decay dynamics curves, and followed the order: TiO2 ＞ ZnO ＞ SnO2 ＞ CeO2 ＞ Fe2O3. Furthermore, the function of surface long-lived O2Ṗ− in TiO2 suspensions with regards to photochemical conversion was investigated using NBT as a chemical model; it was found that half of the molecules were reduced by the surface-adsorbed O2Ṗ−. Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) are widespread environmental contaminants which have been detected in humans and linked to adverse health effects. Previous toxicological studies mostly focused on nuclear receptor-mediated pathways and did not support the observed toxic effects. In this study, we aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms of PFAA toxicities by identifying their biological targets in cells. Using a novel electrochemical biosensor, 16 PFAAs were evaluated for inhibition of protein tyrosine phosphatase SHP-2 activity. Their potency increased with PFAA chain length, with perfluorooctadecanoic acid (PFODA) showing the strongest inhibition. Three selected PFAAs, 25 μM perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonic acid, and PFODA, also inhibited SHP-2 activity in HepG2 cells and increased paxillin phosphorylation level. PFOA was detected in the immunoprecipitated SHP-2 from the cells exposed to 250 μM PFOA, providing unequivocal evidence for the direct binding of PFOA with SHP-2 in the cell. Molecular docking rationalized the formation of PFAA/SHP-2 complex and chain length-dependent inhibition potency. Our results have established SHP-2 as a new cellular target of PFAAs. Bisphenol A (BPA) is widely used in consumer products such as plastic bottles and food containers. It has become a ubiquitous environmental contaminant and poses a serious risk to human health. A rapid, sensitive, and high-throughput method for detecting BPA is therefore desirable. Herein, a donor/acceptor nanoparticle pair-based singlet oxygen channeling chemiluminescence homogenous immunoassay is developed for the determination of BPA. The donor nanoparticles were modified with phthalocyanine as a photosensitizer and were then coated with streptavidin. The acceptor nanoparticles were doped with thioxene derivatives and Eu(III) as a chemiluminescence emitter and then coated with anti-BPA antibody. Under light irradiation, oxygen near the donor surface transforms to singlet oxygen (O), which migrates to the acceptor and reacts with it, generating luminescence. Because O has a very short lifetime, luminescence is generated only when the donor and acceptor are in close proximity. This occurs when they are brought together by the antigen/antibody and streptavidin/biotin reaction. Based on this singlet oxygen channeling mechanism, a competitive homogenous chemiluminescence immunoassay for BPA was developed on 384 microplates. The assay exhibited linear detection over the range 10-1000 ng/mL and a limit of detection of 2.9 ng/mL. The intra- and inter-assay precisions were both below 5.1 %. The average recoveries of three spiked samples in tap and river water samples were in the range 95.5-121.0 %, in agreement with values obtained using high-performance liquid chromatography. The homogeneous assay is rapid, low cost, sensitive, and allows high-throughput, so is well suited for screening large numbers of environmental samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Biotransformation of 8:2 fluorotelomer alcohol (8:2 FTOH) can form potentially more toxic metabolites. However, the responsible cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoform(s) and phase II metabolism have not been studied in humans. Here, we characterized the in vitro metabolism of 8:2 FTOH by recombinant human CYPs, human liver microsomes, and human liver cytosol. The results showed that among the 11 isoforms investigated, CYP2C19 was the only enzyme capable of catalyzing 8:2 FTOH with Km and Vmax values of 18.8 μM and 8.52 pmol min−1 pmol−1 P450, respectively. The phase I metabolite was identified as 8:2 fluorotelomer aldehyde (8:2 FTAL). HLMs also catalyzed 8:2 FTOH transformation, with the Vmax and intrinsic clearance (CLint) values similar to those of CYP2C19 after the protein content is taken into account. Molecular docking showed that the hydroxyl group of 8:2 FTOH accesses the heme iron-oxo of CYP2C19 in an energetically favored orientation. 8:2 FTOH was also transformed by phase II enzymes to form O-glucuronide and O-sulfate conjugates. The CLint values follow the order of sulfation ＞ oxidation ＞ glucuronidation, suggesting that conjugation is the major metabolic pathway, which explains the low yield of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFCAs). Perfluoroalkyl compounds (PFCs) have been shown to disrupt thyroid functions through thyroid hormone receptor (TR)-mediated pathways, but direct binding of PFCs with TR has not been demonstrated. We investigated the binding interactions of 16 structurally diverse PFCs with human TR, their activities on TR in cells, and the activity of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) in vivo. In fluorescence competitive binding assays, most of the 16 PFCs were found to bind to TR with relative binding potency in the range of 0.0003-0.05 compared with triiodothyronine (T3). A structure-binding relationship for PFCs was observed, where fluorinated alkyl chain length longer than ten, and an acid end group were optimal for TR binding. In thyroid hormone (TH)-responsive cell proliferation assays, PFOS, perfluorohexadecanoic acid, and perfluorooctadecanoic acid exhibited agonistic activity by promoting cell growth. Furthermore, similar to T3, PFOS exposure promoted expression of three TH upregulated genes and inhibited three TH downregulated genes in amphibians. Molecular docking analysis revealed that most of the tested PFCs efficiently fit into the T3-binding pocket in TR and formed a hydrogen bond with arginine 228 in a manner similar to T3. It is increasingly important to understand the single-walled carbon nanotubes' (SWCNTs) immune response as their increasingly biomedical researches and applications. Macrophages and T cells play important roles in scavenging foreign materials and pathogens and regulating immune response. In this work, primarily cultured murine peritoneal macrophages and purified splenic T cells were utilised to determine the toxic effects of SWCNTs and acid-functionalised SWCNTs (AF-SWCNTs) on the immune system, especially on macrophage functions. Macrophages were exposed to 0-50 μg/ml of CNTs for 24 h and no significant cytotoxicity was found by live/dead and annexin-V-FITC/PI analyses. The TEM images revealed that AF-SWCNTs were engulfed mostly through phagocytosis and located in lysosomes of macrophages. Measurement of mitochondrial membrane potential and proteasome subunit gene expression demonstrated that 10 and 50 μg/ml AF-SWCNTs could damage mitochondrial function and proteasome formation in a concentration-dependent manner. Functional analyses revealed that the percentage of phagocytic cells were affected significantly by 20 μg/ml CNTs, and 5 μg/ml AF-SWCNTs inhibited the phagocytic efficiency of latex beads in macrophages. The accessory cell function was affected by both AF-SWCNTs and SWCNTs at concentrations of 10 and 50 μg/ml, respectively. Furthermore, AF-SWCNT biased naïve T-cell differentiation to Th1 type by inducing the production of IFN-γ and TNF, implying the potential risk of Th1-associated diseases (e.g. autoimmune diseases and inflammation) on AF-SWCNT exposure. Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are widely used in industrial and medical sectors, and the increasing exposure of SWCNTs necessitates the studies of their potential environmental and health effects. Considerable efforts have been made to improve the dispersion of SWCNTs by chemical modifications. However, the toxicological effects of such modifications on SWCNTs are mostly unknown. This study was designed to determine the influences of acid functionalization on SWCNT toxicity and to understand the molecular toxic mechanisms. RAW264.7 cells were exposed to 0-50 μg/mL of as-synthesized SWCNTs or acid-functionalized SWCNTs (AF-SWCNTs) for 24 hours and then their toxicities were compared via viability analysis. After that the global gene expression profiles of cells exposed to AF-SWCNTs were obtained and analyzed. The results showed that AF-SWCNTs penetrated cell membrane and aggregated in cell cytoplasm and nuclear areas, resulting in enhanced toxicity. In addition, AF-SWCNTs altered the expression of genes related to ribosome, mitochondria, inflammatory response, cell cycle/apoptosis, and proteasome pathway. Indirect competitive immunoassays were developed on protein microarrays for the sensitive and simultaneous detection of multiple environmental chemicals in one sample. In this assay, a DNA/SYTOX Orange conjugate was employed as an antibody label to increase the fluorescence signal and sensitivity of the immunoassays. Epoxy-modified glass slides were selected as the substrate for the production of 4 × 4 coating antigen microarrays. With this signal-enhancing system, competition curves for 17β-estradiol (E2), benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) and 2,2′,4,4′-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47) were obtained individually on the protein microarray. The IC50 and calculated limit of detection (LOD) are 0.32 μg L−1 and 0.022 μg L−1 for E2, 37.2 μg L−1 and 24.5 μg L−1 for BaP, and 31.6 μg L−1 and 2.8 μg L−1 for BDE-47, respectively. LOD of E2 is 14-fold lower than the value reported in a previous study using Cy3 labeled antibody (Du et al., Clin. Chem, 2005, 51, 368–375). The results of the microarray immunoassay were within 15% of chromatographic analysis for all three pollutants in spiked river water samples, thus verifying the immunoassay. Simultaneous detection of E2, BaP and BDE-47 in one sample was demonstrated. There was no cross-reaction in the immunoassay between these three environmental chemicals. These results suggest that microarray-based immunoassays with DNA/dye conjugate labels are useful tools for the rapid, sensitive, and high throughput screening of multiple environmental contaminants. Strategies for electrochemical sensing of DNA can be classified into label-free and label-based approaches, categories of which include enzyme-, nanomaterial- and redox labels that are attached to DNA either by covalent or non-covalent means. Metallointercalators represent one group of small molecule redox labels that non-covalently enter the groove of a DNA. The metallointercalator plays a dual-role in acting as a structure indicator (for hybridization) and a signal generator. Labeling is not needed, and electrochemical measurements can be carried out in a label-free solution of an electrolyte. However, such metallointercalators lack the option of catalytic signal generation as in the case of enzyme- and nanomaterial-based labels. Therefore, signal amplification becomes crucial. We first survey here recent progress in this area. A signal-amplifying system is presented that relies on the electroatalytic oxidation of a metallointercalator ruthenium(II)bipyridine/phenoxazine complex in the presence of electron donor species such as oxalate, DNA bases, or tripropylamine. Recent work on such DNA sensors is discussed. Results suggest that such metallointercalator-based DNA sensors represent a viable platform for developing high-throughput and automated PCR/lab-on-a-chip devices as well as visualized multifunctional DNA sensors. Nanometer sized materials have been shown to possess excellent chemical and electrochemical catalytic properties. In this work, a gold nanoparticle (AuNP) modified indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode was employed for investigating its electro-catalytic property. AuNP was deposited on the 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) modified ITO electrode by self-assembly, and was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and cyclic voltammetry. Although the electrochemical reaction of dopamine was very sluggish on the ITO/APTES electrode, it was significantly enhanced after AuNP deposition. The cyclic voltammogram exhibited apparent dependence on the surface coverage of 11 nm AuNPs, which could be rationalized by different modes of mass diffusion. Among the different sizes of AuNP investigated, the lowest anodic peak potential was observed on 11 nm AuNP. However, the potential was still about 50 mV more positive than that obtained on a bulk gold electrode of similar geometry. Starch grafted poly-hydroxy alkyl-acid esters were prepared via graft polymerization. Different characteristics of grafted starches were tested such as viscosity, viscosity stability, adhesion as well as properties of sized yarns. Sizing performance was analyzed from the aspect of physical and chemical reactions between polymer molecules. It shows that starch grafted poly-hydroxy alkyl-acid esters have excellent sizing performance and could absolutely be used as sizes for polyester-cotton yarns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Binding of five perfluoroalkyl acids with human serum albumin (HSA) was investigated by site-specific fluorescence. Intrinsic fluorescence of tryptophan-214 in HSA was monitored upon addition of the chemicals. Although perfluorobutyl acid (PFBA) and perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS) did not cause fluorescence change, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), and perfluorododecanoic acid (PFDoA) induced fluorescence quenching, from which binding constant of 2.7 × 105 M−1 for PFOA and 2.2 × 104 M−1 for PFOS was calculated. Two fluorescent probes, dansylamide (DA) and dansyl- l-proline (DP), were employed in fluorescence displacement measurements to study the interaction at two Sudlow’s binding sites. At Site I, both PFBA and PFBS displaced DA with binding constants of 1.0 × 106 M−1 and 2.2 × 106 M−1. At Site II, PFBS and PFDoA displaced DP with binding constants of 6.5 × 106 M−1 and 1.2 × 106 M−1, whereas PFBA did not bind.
