Purpose: Mobile phone applications are positioned to support, educate, and empower cancer survivors during post-treatment care. We undertook a review to assess the utility of such smartphone applications; determine whether their use correlates with improved quality of life and other self-reported outcomes; and understand the feasibility of integrating mobile apps into routine follow-up care. Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Emcare, and PsycINFO databases were searched for studies evaluating apps that addressed at least one of the five Cancer Survivorship Care Quality Framework (CSCQF) domains published up until December 2021. Studies were narratively synthesized. Implementation barriers and facilitators were mapped against the Technology Acceptance Model. Results: Twenty-three primary studies were included in this review. Only three randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were identified. Studies generally found mobile apps to be feasible, acceptable, and well-placed to support survivorship care. Health promotion was the most predominant CSCQF domain with apps primarily aiming to support exercise and dietary changes. The domains of monitoring for cancer recurrence (n=5) and management of co-morbidities (n=1) were underrepresented. Barriers to app use included greater time since active treatment, lack of familiarity with technology, and content not tailored to the user. Conclusions: Mobile apps are both feasible and acceptable in supporting the transition between active treatment and follow-up care. However, understanding the utility of such apps is limited by the low number of RCTs. Implications for Cancer Survivors: Mobile apps have the potential to be useful support tools for patients post-treatment. Background and purpose: The immune response following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) can exacerbate secondary brain injury and impact clinical outcomes. As the immune response after aSAH is a dynamic process, we aim to track and characterize immune cell trajectories over time to identify patterns associated with various clinical outcomes. Methods: In this retrospective single-center study of patients with aSAH, we analyzed immune cell count trajectories, including neutrophil, monocyte, and lymphocyte counts, collected from day 1 to day 14. These trajectories were classified into four distinct clusters utilizing the k-means longitudinal clustering method. A comprehensive multivariable analysis was performed to explore the associations of these immune cell clusters with various clinical outcomes. These outcomes included a Modified Rankin Scale score (mRS) of 3 to 6, indicative of poor functional outcomes, along with complications including shunt dependency, vasospasm, and secondary cerebral infarction. Results: In this study, 304 patients with aSAH were analyzed. The trajectories of immune cell counts, including neutrophils, monocytes, and lymphocytes, were successfully categorized into four distinct clusters for each immune cell type. Within neutrophil clusters, both persistent neutrophilia and progressive neutrophilia were associated with poor functional outcomes, shunt dependency, and vasospasm, with resolving neutrophilia showing a lesser degree of these associations. Within monocyte clusters, early monocytosis was associated with vasospasm, whereas delayed monocytosis was associated with shunt dependency. Within lymphocyte clusters, both early transient lymphopenia and early prolonged lymphopenia were associated with poor functional outcomes. Conclusion: Our study demonstrates that distinct immune cell trajectories post-aSAH, identified through unsupervised clustering, are significantly associated with specific clinical outcomes. Background: Rod fracture (RF) is the most common cause of revision in adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery, and various treatment strategies for preventing RF are reported in the literature. This retrospective study, involving 139 ASD patients (aged ≥65 years and a minimum 2-year follow-up) who underwent long-segment fixation from T10 to sacrum with pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO), analyzed long-term results, including radiographical parameters and the incidence of recurrent RF (re-RF), to determine the most effective revision method for preventing RF. Methods: Patients were classified into three groups according to the revision method performed for RF: simple rod replacement (RR group, n = 17), lateral lumbar interbody fusion around the PSO site (RR + LLIF group, n = 8), and accessory rod insertion (RR + AR group, n = 22). Baseline characteristics and radiographical and clinical parameters were analyzed. Results: RF occurred in 47 patients (34%) at an average of 28 months following primary deformity correction. Re-RF occurred in six patients (13%) at an average of 37 months. Re-RF occurred most commonly in the RR group (p = 0.048). Every re-RF in the RR group occurred at the PSO site; none occurred in the RR + LLIF group, and one in the RR + AR group occurred near the L4–5. After both primary deformity correction and revision surgery, spinopelvic parameters had shown favorable results, and clinical outcomes had improved in all three groups without significant intergroup differences. Conclusions: Accessory rod insertion or an additional LLIF around the PSO site seems to provide greater strength and stability to the previously fused segments than a simple rod replacement, which demonstrates the need for additional support in revision surgery for RF after a PSO. Background/Objectives: The objective of this study was to develop a novel quantitative disability assessment tool for patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD). Methods: A total of 47 patients with IPD were recruited from two hospitals. A specialist in Rehabilitation Medicine utilized the modified Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale (mSEADL) as a reference, conducting a comprehensive medical chart review and an in-depth interview. The novel-developed disability measurement was calculated as ((mSEADL during the on-state) × (time of on-state)) + ((mSEADL during the off-state) × (time of off-state))/(waking time). Additionally, the degree of disability was assessed using the Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index during the on-state. Results: Twenty-four participants (51.1%) exhibited the off-state during waking hours. In patients exhibiting an off-state, the mSEADL score was significantly lower during the off-state than during the on-state (p < 0.05). The novel-developed disability measurement demonstrated a higher correlation coefficient with the reference mSEADL (0.960) than with the K-MBI (0.808), with statistical significance (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The results demonstrated that larger IPD patients exhibited an on–off phenomenon with greater dependency during the off-state. Therefore, the on–off phenomenon should be considered when evaluating disability in patients with IPD, with methods such as the novel-developed disability measurement tool in this study. Quorum sensing (QS) is a mechanism by which bacteria detect and respond to cell density, regulating collective behaviors. Burkholderia plantarii, the causal agent of rice seedling blight, employs the LuxIR-type QS system, common among Gram-negative bacteria, where LuxI-type synthase produces QS signals recognized by LuxR-type regulators to control gene expression. This study aimed to elucidate the QS mechanism in B. plantarii KACC18965. Through whole-genome analysis and autoinducer assays, the plaI gene, responsible for QS signal production, was identified. Motility assays confirmed that C8-homoserine lactone (C8-HSL) serves as the QS signal. Physiological experiments revealed that the QS-defective mutant exhibited reduced virulence, impaired swarming motility, and delayed biofilm formation compared to the wild type. Additionally, the QS mutant demonstrated weakened antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and decreased phosphate solubilization. These findings indicate that QS in B. plantarii significantly influences various pathogenicity and survival traits, including motility, biofilm formation, antibacterial activity, and nutrient acquisition, highlighting the critical role of QS in pathogen virulence and adaptability. Background: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is one of the non-invasive brain stimulations that modulate cortical excitability through magnetic pulses. However, the effects of rTMS on Parkinson's disease (PD) have yielded mixed results, influenced by factors including various rTMS stimulation parameters as well as the clinical characteristics of patients with PD. There is no clear evidence regarding which patients should be applied with which parameters of rTMS. The study aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of personalized rTMS in patients with PD, focusing on individual functional reserves to improve ambulatory function. Methods: This is a prospective, exploratory, multi-center, single-blind, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial. Sixty patients with PD will be recruited for this study. This study comprises two sub-studies, each structured as a two-arm trial. Participants are classified into sub-studies based on their functional reserves for ambulatory function, into either the motor or cognitive priority group. The Timed-Up and Go (TUG) test is employed under both single and cognitive dual-task conditions (serial 3 subtraction). The motor dual-task effect, using stride length, and the cognitive dual-task effect, using the correct response rate of subtraction, are calculated. In the motor priority group, high-frequency rTMS targets the primary motor cortex of the lower limb, whereas the cognitive priority group receives rTMS over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. The active comparator for each sub-study is bilateral rTMS of the primary motor cortex of the upper limb. Over 4 weeks, the participants will undergo 10 rTMS sessions, with evaluations conducted pre-intervention, mid-intervention, immediately post-intervention, and at 2-month follow-up. The primary outcome is a change in TUG time between the pre- and immediate post-intervention evaluations. The secondary outcome variables are the TUG under cognitive dual-task conditions, Movement Disorder Society-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III, New Freezing of Gait Questionnaire, Digit Span, trail-making test, transcranial magnetic stimulation-induced motor-evoked potentials, diffusion tensor imaging, and resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging. Discussion: The study will reveal the effect of personalized rTMS based on functional reserve compared to the conventional rTMS approach in PD. Furthermore, the findings of this study may provide empirical evidence for an rTMS protocol tailored to individual functional reserves to enhance ambulatory function in patients with PD. Low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH), derived from unfractionated heparin (UFH), has enhanced anticoagulant efficacy, long duration of action, and extended half-life. Patients receiving LMWH for preventive therapies would strongly benefit from its long-term effects, however, achieving this is challenging. Here, we design and evaluate a nanoengineered LMWH and octadecylamine conjugate (LMHO) that can act for a long time while maintaining close to 97 ± 3% of LMWH activity via end-specific conjugation of the reducing end of LMWH. LMHO can self-assemble into nanoparticles with an average size of 105 ± 1.7 nm in water without any nanocarrier and can be combined with serum albumin, resulting in a lipid-based albumin shuttling effect. Such molecules can circulate in the bloodstream for 4–5 days. We corroborate the self-assembly capability of LMHO and its interaction with albumin through molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis. This innovative approach to carrier-free polysaccharide delivery, enhanced by nanoengineered albumin shuttling, represents a promising platform to address limitations in conventional therapies. Through the previously reported the quantum-identity, the light-model, and the T(temperature) · S(entropy) energy, the implied meaning of temperature and entropy, respectively, which it was difficult to intuitively recognize, was clearly defined. In order to minimize possible errors at this time, the interrelationship of the SI base unit, which is the smallest unit, and the T(temperature) · S(entropy) unit integration was used. In the process of converting to Planck units, each unit (criterion) for entropy and temperature was calculated, and their physical and chemical meanings were compared and reinterpreted. Thus, the unit of entropy is related to the Boltzmann constant, and the temperature is the oscillation of pure mass units. Therefore, the intuitive recognition of physical and chemical factors based on the unit of meter(m)-time(s) is considered sufficient as an initiator to move closer to new science beyond the current limited application. Background: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is widely used therapy to enhance motor deficit in stroke patients. To date, rTMS protocols used in stroke patients are relatively unified. However, as the pathophysiology of stroke is diverse and individual functional deficits are distinctive, more precise application of rTMS is warranted. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the effects of personalized protocols of rTMS therapy based on the functional reserve of each stroke patient in subacute phase. Methods: This study will recruit 120 patients with stroke in subacute phase suffering from the upper extremity motor impairment, from five different hospitals in Korea. The participants will be allocated into three different study conditions based on the functional reserve of each participant, measured by the results of TMS-induced motor evoked potentials (MEPs), and brain MRI with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) evaluations. The participants of the intervention-group in the three study conditions will receive different protocols of rTMS intervention, a total of 10 sessions for 2 weeks: high-frequency rTMS on ipsilesional primary motor cortex (M1), high-frequency rTMS on ipsilesional ventral premotor cortex, and high-frequency rTMS on contralesional M1. The participants of the controlgroup in all three study conditions will receive the same rTMS protocol: lowfrequency rTMS on contralesional M1. For outcome measures, the following assessments will be performed at baseline (T0), during-intervention (T1), postintervention (T2), and follow-up (T3) periods: Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), Box-and-block test, Action Research Arm Test, Jebsen-Taylor hand function test, hand grip strength, Functional Ambulatory Category, fractional anisotropy measured by the DTI, and brain network connectivity obtained from MRI. The primary outcome will be the difference of upper limb function, as measured by FMA from T0 to T2. The secondary outcomes will be the differences of other assessments. Discussion: This study will determine the effects of applying different protocols of rTMS therapy based on the functional reserve of each patient. In addition, this methodology may prove to be more efficient than conventional rTMS protocols. Backgound: Although cognitive control is essential for efficient gait, the associations between cognitive and motor networks regarding gait in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) remain to be determined. Herein, we enrolled 28 PD and 28 controls to compare internetwork coupling among cognitive and motor networks and examine its relationship with single- and dual-task gait performance in PD. Methods: The dorsal attention network (DAN), left and right frontoparietal control networks (FPNs), sensorimotor network, and lateral motor network were identified using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data. The time taken to complete a 10-m walk test during cognitive or physical dual-tasks in PD was calculated representing gait performance. Results: We observed that the internetwork couplings between the DAN and motor networks and between the motor networks decreased whereas those between the left FPN and DAN and motor networks increased in PD compared to controls using a permutation test. There was no significant correlation between the internetwork couplings and single- and dual-task gait performance in PD. Nevertheless, improved cognitive dual-task performance showed a positive correlation with the DAN and left FPN coupling and a negative correlation with the DAN and lateral motor network coupling in a good performance group. The opposite relationship was observed in the poor cognitive dual-task performance group. Conclusion: Our findings suggest a neural mechanism of cognitive control on gait to compensate for reduced goal-directed attention in PD who maintain cognitive dual-task performance. Simple Summary: Radiation-associated sarcomas pose a significant clinical challenge due to their complexity, aggressiveness, and poor prognosis. Our retrospective study is one of the largest descriptions of radiation-associated sarcomas, aiming to shed light on their clinicopathologic characteristics and highlight treatment approaches. Our research found a significant association between high radiation-associated sarcoma histologic grade and inferior clinical outcomes. We also found that localized radiation-associated sarcoma patients who underwent margin-negative resections lived significantly longer than their counterparts. Our analysis thus confirms the paramount role of tumor grade and the central importance of margin-negative oncologic resection in determining clinical outcomes for radiation-associated sarcomas. Radiation-associated sarcomas (RASs) are rare tumors with limited contemporary data to inform prognostication and management. We sought to identify the clinical presentation, patterns of care, and prognostic factors of RASs. RAS patients treated at a single institution from 2015 to 2021 were retrospectively reviewed for clinicopathologic variables, treatment strategies, and outcomes. Thirty-eight patients were identified with a median follow-up of 30.5 months. The median age at RAS diagnosis was 68.4 years (27.9–85.4), with a median latency from index radiotherapy (RT) of 9.1 years (3.7–46.3). RAS histologies included angiosarcoma (26%), undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (21%), and osteosarcoma (18%). Most were high-grade (76%). Genomic profiling revealed low tumor mutational burden, frequent inactivating TP53 mutations (44%), CDKN2A deletions (26%), and MYC amplifications (22%), particularly in breast angiosarcomas. Of 38 patients, 33 presented with localized disease, 26 of whom were treated with curative intent. Overall, the median progression-free survival (PFS) was 9.5 months (1.4–34.7), and the overall survival (OS) was 11.1 months (0.6–31.6). Patients with localized vs. metastatic RASs had a longer PFS (HR, 3.0 [1.1–8.5]; p = 0.03) and OS (HR, 3.0 [1.04–8.68]; p = 0.03). Among localized RAS patients, high grade was associated with shorter OS (HR, 4.6 [1.04–20.30]; p = 0.03) and resection with longer OS (mean 58.8 vs. 6.1 months, HR, 0.1 [0.03–0.28]; p < 0.001). Among patients undergoing resection, negative margins were associated with improved OS (mean 71.0 vs. 15.5 months, HR, 5.1 [1.4–18.2]; p = 0.006). Patients with localized disease, particularly those undergoing R0 resection, demonstrated significantly better outcomes. Caulerpa is a marine green macroalga distinguished by a large single cell with multiple nuclei. It also exhibits remarkable morphological intraspecies variations, in response to diverse environmental types. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this phenotypic plasticity remain poorly understood. In this work, we compare the transcriptomes of Caulerpa okamurae Weber Bosse, 1897 displaying altered phenotypes of cultivation and natural phenotypes and investigate significantly regulated genes and their biological functions using differential expression analyses. We observe light‐harvesting complex upregulation and cellular framework stability downregulation in altered phenotypes compared to the natural phenotypes. Intertidal macrophytes reduce light capture to avoid photodamage and regulate their morphology to protect against wave damage. In contrast, the lower light conditions and the cultivation environment augment light capture and increase a morphology prioritizing light trapping. Moreover, the addition of simulated wave‐sweeping stimuli induces a return to the natural morphology under high‐light conditions, showing how mechanical stress affects morphological organization in C. okamurae. We provide detailed gene expression patterns in C. okamurae under varying light intensities and water conditions, suggesting a distinct influence on its morphological traits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: To investigate whether post‐stroke statin therapy reduces subsequent major vascular events in statin‐naïve patients with pretreatment low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL‐C) below the recommended target (≤70 mg/dL for atherosclerotic stroke and ≤100 mg/dL for non‐atherosclerotic stroke) at stroke onset. Methods: Patients from an ongoing stroke registry who had an ischemic stroke between 2011 and 2020 were screened. Statin naïve patients with baseline LDL‐C below the target were assessed. The effect of post‐stroke statin therapy on major vascular events (composite of recurrent stroke, myocardial infarction, and death) was investigated using weighted Cox regression analyses using stabilized inverse probability treatment weighting. Results: The baseline LDL‐C level of the 1,858 patients (mean age 67.9 ± 15.3 years, 61.4% men, 13.2% atherosclerotic stroke) included in the study was 75.7 ± 17.0 mg/dL. Statins were prescribed to 1,256 (67.7%) patients (low‐to‐moderate intensity, 23.5%; high intensity, 44.1%). Post‐stroke statin therapy was associated with a lower risk of major vascular events during 1‐year follow‐up (weighted hazard ratio 0.55, 95% confidence interval 0.42–0.71). In a subgroup of patients who were at very high risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease with LDL‐C <55 mg/dL or patients who were not at very high risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease with LDL‐C <70 mg/dL, post‐stroke statin therapy was also associated with a reduction in major vascular events (weighted hazard ratio 0.45, 95% confidence interval 0.29–0.70). The intensity of the most beneficial statin varied by subtype of stroke. The interaction between ambient oxygen and the metal oxide surface is central to various electrochemical devices. Solid oxide fuel cell cathodes and semiconducting metal oxide gas sensors are two prominent examples. Parallels between these two systems are highlighted in this perspective. In both cases, the presence of foreign surface species has been found to significantly alter the interactions of the metal oxides' surfaces with oxygen. On the one hand, interactions are hindered due to the presence of certain impurities, such as the degradation of fuel cell cathode by Si‐species that originate from processing or from operating environments. On the other hand, electrochemically active noble metal additives have been intentionally used to tune the sensor response of metal oxides. In the case of electrochemically active additives, the need for operando spectroscopies to elucidate the mechanism is discussed. Electronic coupling of the surface additive with the metal oxide is found to play a central role in both cases. This study aimed to develop a standardized protocol for the assessment of videofluoroscopic dysphagia scale (VDS) and to demonstrate the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the VDS by applying the new standard protocol. A standardized protocol for the VDS was developed by dysphagia experts, including the original developer. To identify the reliability of the VDS using the protocol, 60 patients who underwent videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) for various etiologies were recruited retrospectively from three tertiary medical centers. Ten randomly selected cases were duplicated to evaluate the intra-rater reliability. Six physicians evaluated the VFSS data sets. Intraclass correlation coefficients were calculated for inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the VDS score, and Gwet's kappa values for each VDS item were calculated. The inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the total VDS score was 0.966 and 0.896, respectively. Notably, the evaluators' experience did not appear to have a significant impact on the reliability (physiatrists: 0.933/0.869, residents: 0.922/0.922). The reliability was consistent across different centers and dysphagia etiologies. The inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the oral and pharyngeal sub-scores were 0.953/0.861 and 0.958/0.907, respectively. The inter-rater agreement of individual items ranged from 0.456 to 0.929, and nine items demonstrated good to very good level of agreement. Assessment of dysphagia using the VDS with the standard protocol showed excellent inter-rater and intra-rater reliabilities regardless of the evaluator's experience, VFSS equipment, and dysphagia etiologies. Background and purpose: Multiple attempts at intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) detection using deep-learning techniques have been plagued by clinical failures. We aimed to compare the performance of a deep-learning algorithm for ICH detection trained on strongly and weakly annotated datasets, and to assess whether a weighted ensemble model that integrates separate models trained using datasets with different ICH improves performance. Methods: We used brain CT scans from the Radiological Society of North America (27,861 CT scans, 3,528 ICHs) and AI-Hub (53,045 CT scans, 7,013 ICHs) for training. DenseNet121, InceptionResNetV2, MobileNetV2, and VGG19 were trained on strongly and weakly annotated datasets and compared using independent external test datasets. We then developed a weighted ensemble model combining separate models trained on all ICH, subdural hemorrhage (SDH), subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and smalllesion ICH cases. The final weighted ensemble model was compared to four well-known deep-learning models. After external testing, six neurologists reviewed 91 ICH cases difficult for AI and humans. Results: InceptionResNetV2, MobileNetV2, and VGG19 models outperformed when trained on strongly annotated datasets. A weighted ensemble model combining models trained on SDH, SAH, and small-lesion ICH had a higher AUC, compared with a model trained on all ICH cases only. This model outperformed four deep-learning models (AUC [95% C.I.]: Ensemble model, 0.953[0.938-0.965]; InceptionResNetV2, 0.852[0.828-0.873]; DenseNet121, 0.875[0.852-0.895]; VGG19, 0.796[0.770-0.821]; MobileNetV2, 0.650[0.620-0.680]; p < 0.0001). In addition, the case review showed that a better understanding and management of difficult cases may facilitate clinical use of ICH detection algorithms. Some individuals with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), also known as concussion, have neuropsychiatric and physical problems that last longer than a few months. Symptoms following mTBI are not only impacted by the kind and severity of the injury but also by the post-injury experience and the individual's responses to it, making the persistence of mTBI particularly difficult to predict. We aimed to identify prognostic blood-based protein biomarkers predicting 6-month outcomes, in light of the clinical course after the injury, in a longitudinal mTBI cohort (N = 42). Among 420 target proteins quantified by multiple-reaction monitoring-mass spectrometry assays of blood samples, 31, 43, and 15 proteins were significantly associated with the poor recovery of neuropsychological symptoms at < 72 h, 1 week, and 1 month after the injury, respectively. Sequential associations among clinical assessments (depressive symptoms and cognitive function) affecting the 6-month outcomes were evaluated. Then, candidate biomarker proteins indirectly affecting the outcome via neuropsychological symptoms were identified. Using the identified proteins, prognostic models that can predict the 6-month outcome of mTBI were developed. The brain houses vital hormonal regulatory structures such as the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, which may confer unique susceptibilities to critical illness-related corticosteroid insufficiency (CIRCI) in patients with neurological disorders. In addition, the frequent use of steroids for therapeutic purposes in various neurological conditions may lead to the development of steroid insufficiency. This abstract aims to highlight the significance of understanding these relationships in the context of patient care and management for physicians. Neurological disorders may predispose patients to CIRCI due to the role of the brain in hormonal regulation. Early recognition of CIRCI in the context of neurological diseases is essential to ensure prompt and appropriate intervention. Moreover, the frequent use of steroids for treating neurological conditions can contribute to the development of steroid insufficiency, further complicating the clinical picture. Physicians must be aware of these unique interactions and be prepared to evaluate and manage patients with CIRCI and steroid insufficiency in the context of neurological disorders. The Korean fir tree Abies koreana, an endangered species in Korea, faces threats primarily from climate change-induced stress and drought. This study proposed a sustainable method to enhance A. koreana drought tolerance using a black yeast-like fungus identified as Aureobasidium pullulans (AK10). The 16S/ITS metabarcoding analysis assessed the impact of drought and AK10 treatment on the seedlings' rhizosphere microbiome. Results revealed a profound drought influence on the microbiome, particularly affecting fungal mycobiota. Drought-stressed seedlings exhibited elevated Agaricaceae levels, opportunistic fungi generally associated with decomposition. AK10 treatment significantly mitigated this proliferation and increased the relative abundance of beneficial fungi like Cystofilobasidium and Mortierella, known biocontrol agents and phosphate solubilizers. A notable reduction in the phytopathogenic Fusarium levels was observed with AK10, alongside an increase in beneficial bacteria, including Azospirillum and Nitrospirillum. Furthermore, the conducted correlation analysis shed light on microbial interrelationships within the rhizosphere, elucidating potential co-associations and antagonisms. Taken together, the isolated A. pullulans AK10 identified in this study serves as a potential biostimulant, enhancing the drought tolerance in A. koreana through beneficial alterations in the rhizosphere microbiome. Sedation plays a crucial role in successful pediatric imaging, and chloral hydrate is commonly used for this purpose. However, the challenges associated with chloral hydrate administration, such as its unpleasant taste and potential induction of vomiting, remain a concern. Sweet oral solutions have emerged as potential solutions for reducing distress and providing analgesia. This study compared the efficacy of dextrose combined with chloral hydrate with that of conventional sedation methods. This prospective, double-blind, randomized controlled clinical study enrolled 160 pediatric outpatients scheduled for echocardiography. Chloral hydrate syrup (100 mg/mL) was supplemented with a dextrose solution (dextrose group) or distilled water (control group) in a 1:10 volume ratio. The sedation achievement time, Skeie scale score, revised Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, and Consolability (FLACC) score, and side effects (nausea, vomiting, hypoxia, and respiratory depression) were assessed. No significant difference in average time to achieve sedation was observed between the dextrose and control groups (24.4±17.8 vs. 24.7±17.1 min, p=0.92). Both groups demonstrated similar levels of sedation according to the Skeie scale and mean revised FLACC score. Although the occurrence rates of nausea and vomiting had no significant differences, the dextrose group had no cases of vomiting in children aged >24 months compared to the control group, which had three cases (30%). In conclusion, the addition of dextrose to chloral hydrate did not significantly affect sedation time, anxiety, pain reduction, or occurrence of gastrointestinal complications during sedation. The sequential 4-channel neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), based on the normal contractile sequences of swallowing-related muscles, is a new rehabilitative treatment. The objective of this study was to explore the mechanism of the rehabilitative effect of the 4-channel NMES using kinematic analysis of videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) data. For this post-hoc analysis, we included a subset of participants from the prospective randomized controlled study on the clinical effectiveness of the sequential 4-channel NMES compared with that of the conventional 2-channel NMES. Seventeen subjects (11 and six in the 4- and 2-channel NMES groups, respectively) were eligible for the kinematic analysis of VFSS data. The hyoid bone movement was analyzed by evaluating the distance and time parameters with four peak points (A, B, C, D). The 4-channel NMES group showed significant improvement in vertical distances (A–C), horizontal distance (A–B, A–C), time interval (A–B–C) and total time, compared with their pretreatment data. The 2-channel NMES group showed significant improvements in time interval (A–B); however, the Euclidean distance (A–D) and mean velocity of the Euclidean distance (A-C) were significantly decreased. When the two groups were directly compared, the 4-channel group showed significantly greater improvement in horizontal distance (A–B), Euclidean distance (A–D), time interval (A–B–C), and mean velocity the Euclidean distance (A–D). The results in this study suggest that the sequential 4-channel NMES might lead to the physiologic circular movement of the hyoid bone during swallowing, and therefore be an effective treatment for dysphagia. Background: Dual-task training in Parkinson's disease (PD) improves spatiotemporal gait parameters, cognition, and quality of life. Virtual reality (VR) has been used as a therapeutic tool for patients to participate in activities in a safe environment, engage in multisensory experiences, and improve motivation and interest in rehabilitation. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of fully immersive VR exergames with dual-task components in patients with PD. Methods: We developed VR exergames (go/no-go punch game, go/no-go stepping game, and number punch game) to improve habitual behavior control using motor–cognitive dual-task performance in patients with PD. The participants underwent 10 sessions 2–3 times a week, consisting of 30 min per session. The Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale, Timed Up and Go test (TUG) under single- and dual-task (cognitive and physical) conditions, Berg balance scale (BBS), Stroop test, trail-making test, and digit span were evaluated before and after intervention. The Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ) was used to assess VR cybersickness. Usability was assessed using a self-reported questionnaire. Results: Twelve patients were enrolled and completed the entire training session. The mean age of participants was 73.83 ± 6.09 years; mean disease duration was 128.83 ± 76.96 months. The Hoehn and Yahr stages were 2.5 in seven patients and 3 in five patients. A significant improvement was observed in BBS and Stroop color–word test (p = 0.047 and p = 0.003, respectively). TUG time and dual-task interferences showed positive changes, but these changes were not statistically significant. The median SSQ total score was 28.05 (IQR: 29.92), 13.09 (IQR: 11.22), and 35.53 (IQR: 52.36) before, after the first session, and after the final session, respectively; the differences were not significant. Overall satisfaction with the intervention was 6.0 (IQR: 1.25) on a 7-point Likert-type scale. Conclusions: Fully immersive VR exergames combined with physical and cognitive tasks may be used for rehabilitation of patients with PD without causing serious adverse effects. Furthermore, the exergames using dual-task components improved executive function and balance. Further development of VR training content may be needed to improve motor and dual-task performances. Objective: Dysphagia is a common clinical condition characterized by difficulty in swallowing. It is sub-classified into oropharyngeal dysphagia, which refers to problems in the mouth and pharynx, and esophageal dysphagia, which refers to problems in the esophageal body and esophagogastric junction. Dysphagia can have a significant negative impact one’s physical health and quality of life as its severity increases. Therefore, proper assessment and management of dysphagia are critical for improving swallowing function and preventing complications. Thus a guideline was developed to provide evidence-based recommendations for assessment and management in patients with dysphagia. Methods: Nineteen key questions on dysphagia were developed. These questions dealt with various aspects of problems related to dysphagia, including assessment, management, and complications. A literature search for relevant articles was conducted using Pubmed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and one domestic database of KoreaMed, until April 2021. The level of evidence and recommendation grade were established according to the Grading of Recommendation Assessment, Development and Evaluation methodology. Results: Early screening and assessment of videofluoroscopic swallowing were recommended for assessing the presence of dysphagia. Therapeutic methods, such as tongue and pharyngeal muscle strengthening exercises and neuromuscular electrical stimulation with swallowing therapy, were effective in improving swallowing function and quality of life in patients with dysphagia. Nutritional intervention and an oral care program were also recommended. This study aimed to delineate overlapping and distinctive functional connectivity in visual motor imagery, kinesthetic motor imagery, and motor execution of target-oriented grasping action of the right hand. Functional magnetic resonance imaging data were obtained from 18 right-handed healthy individuals during each condition. Seed-based connectivity and multi-voxel pattern analyses were employed after selecting seed regions with the left primary motor cortex and supplementary motor area. There was equivalent seed-based connectivity during the three conditions in the bilateral frontoparietal and temporal areas. When the seed region was the left primary motor cortex, increased connectivity was observed in the left cuneus and superior frontal area during visual and kinesthetic motor imageries, respectively, compared with that during motor execution. Multi-voxel pattern analyses revealed that each condition was differentiated by spatially distributed connectivity patterns of the left primary motor cortex within the right cerebellum VI, cerebellum crus II, and left lingual area. When the seed region was the left supplementary motor area, the connectivity patterns within the right putamen, thalamus, cerebellar areas IV-V, and left superior parietal lobule were significantly classified above chance level across the three conditions. The present findings improve our understanding of the spatial representation of functional connectivity and its specific patterns among motor imagery and motor execution. Background: Despite immunotherapy's promise in oncology, its use for sarcoma remains challenging. There are no sarcoma-specific biomarkers for immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). Previously, we reported our institutional experience highlighting ICI activity in 29 patients with sarcoma. In this study, we explore responses to ICI based on ICI regimen and other covariates to identify significant clinical factors in advanced sarcoma outcomes. Methods: Patients in The Ohio State University Sarcoma Clinics were enrolled in the Sarcoma Retrospective ICI database from January 1, 2015 through November 1, 2021. Data included treatment regimen (single-agent ICI or ICI + combination) along with clinical covariates. ICI + combination was further categorized into ICI + medication, ICI + radiation, ICI + surgery, or ICI + multiple (more than 2 modalities). Statistical analysis included log-rank tests and proportional hazard regression. The primary objective was to evaluate overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Results: Of the patients in the database, 135 met inclusion criteria. We demonstrated improved OS in patients treated with ICI + combination (p = 0.014, median 64 weeks), but no effect on PFS (p = 0.471, median 31 weeks). Patients with a documented immune-related adverse event (irAE) of dermatitis had improved OS, but only in the ICI + combination cohort (p = 0.021). Patients who received single-agent ICI and whose change in the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) was less than 5 had an improved OS (p = 0.002); this was not seen in patients who received ICI + combination therapy (p = 0.441). There were no differences in OS based on age, gender, histology, or subcategories of ICI + combination. This was not the case for PFS; patients who received any ICI regimen and were younger than 70 had a worse PFS (p = 0.036) compared with their older counterparts in this dataset. Patients who developed an irAE, specifically colitis (p = 0.009), hepatitis (p = 0.048), or dermatitis (p = 0.003), had an improved PFS. There were no differences in PFS based on ICI regimen (or subcategories of ICI + combination), gender, histology, change in NLR, or grade of irAE. Conclusions: This retrospective study demonstrates that ICI + combination therapy can improve OS in some patients with advanced sarcoma. This is consistent with our prior results of ICI in sarcoma. Objective To investigate the clinical and swallowing characteristics related to respiratory infection in patients with parkinsonism. Methods One hundred and forty-two patients with parkinsonism who underwent videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS) were enrolled in this study. The initial clinical and VFSS characteristics were compared between patients with and without a history of respiratory infection in the past year. A multivariate logistic regression model was applied to identify clinical and swallowing characteristics related to respiratory infections. Results Patients with respiratory infections were older (74.75±10.20 years vs. 70.70±8.83 years, p=0.037), had a higher Hoehn and Yahr (H&Y) stage (stage IV-V, 67.9% vs. 49.1%; p=0.047), and were more likely to have a diagnosis of idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD) (67.9% vs. 41.2%, p=0.011) than those without respiratory infections. Among VFSS findings, bolus formation, premature bolus loss, oral transit time, pyriform sinus residues, pharyngeal wall coatings, and penetration/aspiration were significantly worse in patients with respiratory infections (p<0.05). Regarding clinical characteristics, higher H&Y stage (odds ratio [OR], 3.174; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.226-8.216; p=0.017) and diagnosis of IPD (OR, 0.280, 95% CI, 0.111-0.706; p=0.007) were significantly related to respiratory infections in the multivariate analysis. Among VFSS findings, pyriform sinus residue (OR, 14.615; 95% CI, 2.257-94.623; p=0.005) and premature bolus loss (OR, 5.151; 95% CI, 1.047-25.338; p=0.044) were also significantly associated with respiratory infection. Conclusion This study suggests that disease severity, diagnosis, pyriform sinus residue, and premature bolus loss observed in VFSS are associated with respiratory infection in patients with parkinsonism. SUMMARY: Green algal blooms by Cladophora species are primarily reported in freshwater and coastal regions and cause severe ecological problems. A taxonomic report of the geographic distribution of Cladophora blooms is essential to explore the cause and impact of macroalgal blooms and for eco‐physiological studies. The identification of blooming species is necessary for monitoring and controlling algal blooms. Genetic information of DNA sequences is useful for identifying species in the genus Cladophora. In the coastal area of Sangrok, Korea, a large‐scale Cladophora bloom was reported for the first time in September 2015. In the present study, we identified the taxonomic entity of Cladophora oligocladoidea (Ulvophyceae, Cladophorales) in Korea. We report for the first time a green algal bloom by this species globally. This is the second report about genetic diversity of C. oligocladoidea since the species was established in Japan. Four ribotypes in the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the nuclear ribosomal DNA represent the genetic diversity of Korean C. oligocladoidea. The results from this taxonomic report and our analysis of the green algal bloom of Korean C. oligocladoidea can provide valuable data to understand the geographic distribution and the genetic diversity of the species. Seaweed Gracilaria vermiculophylla Papenfuss, commonly called as ‘Worm wart weed’, is a red alga widely distributed in the coastal areas of several countries. Though G. vermiculophylla has been reported to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, such effects on periodontal diseases remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of G. vermiculophylla on the production of inflammatory cytokines in Porphyromonas gingivalis induced RAW 264.7 cells. Gracilaria vermiculophylla on that RAW 264.7 cells had no cytotoxic effect on cell viability compared with untreated controls. In P. gingivalis stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, G. vermiculophylla treatment reduced nitric oxide (NO) levels in a concentration-dependent manner by downregulating inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) proteins. Reverse transcription-quantitative (RT-q) PCR inhibited interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α mRNA. Western blot analysis found that both inhibitor of kappa B alpha (IκBα) kinase (IKK) phosphorylation and IκBα degradation in P. gingivalis stimulated RAW 264.7 cells was inhibited by G. vermiculophylla in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, G. vermiculophylla treatment reduced the nuclear translocation of nuclear factor (NF)-κB p65, suggesting that the anti-inflammatory effect of G. vermiculophylla is associated with the inhibition of NF-κB signaling pathways. Overall, the findings indicate that the red alga Gracilaria vermiculophylla extract may have anti-inflammatory effects on periodontitis and can serve as a potent therapeutic agent to prevent periodontal disease. This study aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness of nonemergent extracranial-to-intracranial bypass (EIB) in symptomatic chronic large artery atherosclerotic stenosis or occlusive disease (LAA) through quantitative analysis of computed tomography perfusion (CTP) parameters using RAPID software. We retrospectively analyzed 86 patients who underwent nonemergent EIB due to symptomatic chronic LAA. CTP data obtained preoperatively, immediately postoperatively (PostOp0), and 6 months postoperatively (PostOp6M) after EIB were quantitatively analyzed through RAPID software, and their association with intraoperative bypass flow (BF) was assessed. The clinical outcomes, including neurologic state, incidence of recurrent infarction and complications, were also analyzed. The time-to-maximum (Tmax) > 8 s, > 6 s and > 4 s volumes decreased significantly at PostOp0 and up through PostOp6M (preoperative, 5, 51, and 223 ml (median), respectively; PostOp0, 0, 20.25, and 143 ml, respectively; PostOp6M, 0, 7.5, and 148.5 ml, respectively; p < 0.001, p < 0.001, and p < 0.001, respectively). The postoperative improvement in the Tmax > 6 s and > 4 s volumes was significantly correlated with the BF at PostOp0 and PostOp6M (PostOp0, r = 0.367 (p = 0.001) and r = 0.275 (p = 0.015), respectively; PostOp6M r = 0.511 (p < 0.001) and r = 0.391 (p = 0.001), respectively). The incidence of recurrent cerebral infarction was 4.7%, and there were no major complications that produced permanent neurological impairment. To investigate viruses in measles‐negative cases, 221 measles‐suspected samples collected in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea were tested using a real‐time PCR assay. Rubella virus was not detected. However, 11 cases of parvovirus B19 (5.0%), 47 cases of human herpesvirus 6 (21.3%), 25 cases of human herpesvirus 7 (11.3%), and one case of co‐infection with parvovirus B19 and human herpesvirus 7 were confirmed, as were eight cases of co‐infection with human herpesvirus 6 and human herpesvirus 7. This study showed that parvovirus B19, human herpesvirus 6, and human herpesvirus 7 should be considered by physicians for the diagnosis of measles‐suspected patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To examine the effects of substratum types on the growth of Caulerpa okamurae, sand surface and sand burial experiments were conducted. Five assimilators (erect fronds) per replicate were cultured for 15 d on the surface of three different treatments: fine sand (200 μm), coarse sand (600 μm), and no sand (control). Also, three stolons and three assimilators were buried by fine grain or coarse grain sands and incubated for 15 d. In both experiments, other culture conditions included 25°C, 30 μmol photons m-2 s-1, and 16 : 8 h L : D (light : dark). In both experiments, stolon + assimilator-, assimilator-, and stolon-weights were measured. Relative growth rates (RGRs) of stolon + assimilator weights ranged from 0.43 to 1.95% d-1 at no sand and fine sand treatment, respectively. RGRs for the weight of stolon + assimilator and new assimilators were significantly greater on the fine- and coarse sand surface than the control. In the burial experiments, RGRs of stolons (4.28% d-1 at coarse sand and 5.57% d-1 at fine sand, respectively) were significantly greater than those of assimilators (1.38% d-1 at fine sand and 1.82% d-1 at coarse sand, respectively). When stolons were buried, RGRs for assimilators were greater at the fine sand than at the coarse sand treatment. On the other hand, RGRs of buried assimilators for total frond weights and for newly produced stolons were significantly greater at the coarse sands than at the fine sands. In conclusion, C. okamurae grew well with all substrates of sands and showed better growth on fine sands than coarse ones. This result suggests that the growth of stolons and assimilators of C. okamurae is stimulated after stable attachment to the sand substrates by rhizophores. In addition, stolons showed higher growth rates than the assimilators in the sand burial states, indicating that stolons are more tolerant to low light than assimilators of C. okamurae. A major challenge to overcome in demonstrating solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) to be suitable as efficient and environmentally friendly energy conversion devices capable of addressing pressing clean energy and environmental needs is to surmount chemical and thermo‐mechanical instabilities in their operational phase. To date, perovskite‐based mixed conducting cathodes, which include inherent Co and Sr elements for enhanced reactivity and conductivity, have been intensively studied. These Co/Sr‐based oxides, however, exhibit severe thermochemical expansion and suffer from Sr surface segregation, ultimately degrading the electrode performance. Here, high‐performance and durable SOFCs are demonstrated by employing a Co/Sr‐free fluorite‐based mixed conducting (Pr,Ce)O2‐δ (PCO) cathode eminently compatible with fluorite‐based solid electrolytes. The nanocolumnar PCO electrode developed in this study provides not only a remarkable low level of electrode resistance (e.g., ≈0.05 Ω cm2 at 600 °C) but also exceptional long‐term stability (e.g., a degradation rate 15 times slower compared to the state‐of‐the‐art La0.6Sr0.4CoO3‐δ perovskite). The competitive peak power densities of an anode‐supported single cell with the PCO cathode are also successively achieved, recording a value of 0.92 W cm−2 at 600 °C. Solid oxide fuel cells can, in principle, use natural gas as a fuel and thus are attracting attention as promising next-generation energy conversion devices. However, severe carbon deposition (coking) in the state-of-the-art Ni–yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) anode remains a grand challenge. Here, we address this issue by coating a highly porous ceria layer uniformly decorated with Ni nanoparticles over a Ni–YSZ anode via a simple two-step cathodic electrochemical deposition process. The size and distribution of the Ni nanoparticles are successfully controlled by the deposition time and the physical and chemical properties of the resulting composite coatings are characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD and EDS. Their catalytic activities toward methane steam reforming and hydrogen electro-oxidation reactions are evaluated by gas chromatography and AC impedance spectroscopy, respectively. The nanocomposite coatings show a high level of internal reforming reactivity and excellent H2 electro-oxidation reactivity. As a result, only 15 minutes of the two-step deposition reduces the electrode resistance of the model Ni–YSZ anode (patterned Ni‖YSZ‖patterned Ni) to nearly 1/300 of the original level in 3% humidified CH4 at 550 °C and allows stable operation for 90 hours at 650 °C. Temporal and spatial tuning of the refractive index of optical thin films is desired for flat optics applications. The redistribution of mobile ions in mixed ionic-electronic conductors (MIEC) has been demonstrated to serve as a viable means for achieving optical tuning down to the nanoscale. Here we studied the dynamic range of the optical tuning achievable in the refractive index, in the MIEC oxide – PrxCe1−xO2−δ (PCO), for x = 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4, at 500 °C, by in-situ spectrophotometry. Significant increases in the modulation of both the imaginary and real optical constants in the visible and the adjacent spectra were obtained for increased doping levels. Device employing an electrochemical titration method was implemented to modulate the oxygen concentration, and thereby the optical transmission of PCO. Incorporation of a patterned top electrode allowed for the demonstration of spatial control of PCO thin film properties by in-situ video imaging of the optical switching process. To develop deep learning models for predicting Interoperative hypotension (IOH) using waveforms from arterial blood pressure (ABP), electrocardiogram (ECG), and electroencephalogram (EEG), and to determine whether combination ABP with EEG or CG improves model performance. Data were retrieved from VitalDB, a public data repository of vital signs taken during surgeries in 10 operating rooms at Seoul National University Hospital from January 6, 2005, to March 1, 2014. Retrospective data from 14,140 adult patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery with general anaesthesia were used. The predictive performances of models trained with different combinations of waveforms were evaluated and compared at time points at 3, 5, 10, 15 minutes before the event. The performance was calculated by area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC), area under the precision-recall curve (AUPRC), sensitivity and specificity. The model performance was better in the model using both ABP and EEG waveforms than in all other models at all time points (3, 5, 10, and 15 minutes before an event) Using high-fidelity ABP and EEG waveforms, the model predicted IOH with a AUROC and AUPRC of 0.935 [0.932 to 0.938] and 0.882 [0.876 to 0.887] at 5 minutes before an IOH event. The output of both ABP and EEG was more calibrated than that using other combinations or ABP alone. The results demonstrate that a predictive deep neural network can be trained using ABP, ECG, and EEG waveforms, and the combination of ABP and EEG improves model performance and calibration. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Daewoong botulinum toxin type A (NABOTA) after its launch in South Korea. Methods: This prospective, multicenter, open-label phase IV clinical trial included 222 patients with stroke. All patients visited the clinic at baseline and at weeks 4, 8, and 12 after injection of upto 360 units of NABOTA into the wrist, elbow, and finger flexor muscles at the first visit. The primary outcome was the change in Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) score for the wrist flexor muscles between baseline and week 4. The secondary outcomes were the changes in MAS, Disability Assessment Scale (DAS), and Caregiver Burden Scale (CBS) scores between baseline and each visit, and the Global Assessment Scale (GAS) score at week 12. Results: There was a statistically significant decrease in the MAS score for the wrist flexors between baseline and week 4 (-0.97±0.66, p<0.001). Compared with baseline, the MAS, DAS and CBS scores improved significantly during the study period. The GAS was rated as very good or good by 86.8% of physicians and by 60.0% of patients (or caregivers). The incidence of adverse events was 14.4%, which is smaller than that in a previous trial. Conclusion: NABOTA showed considerable efficacy and safety in the management of upper limb spasticity in stroke patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Neopyropia J. Brodie & L.-E Yang has been cultivated in Asia for centuries and the total production was nearly three million (fresh weight) with an economic value of US$2.7 billion in 2019. It has been traditionally used as human food. Recently its diverse secondary metabolites as functional components, including porphyrin, phycobiliproteins, carotenoids, mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries have received much attention. In this review we first discuss the nomenclatural history of Neopyropia, its characterization, and circumscription and species delineation; current systematics, biogeography and speciation, genomics and transcriptomics, ecology, life history, cultivation, and bioactive chemicals. Currently, 22 species have been described in this genus and 32 varieties or cultivars have been developed in Korea, China, and Japan. Most species show a large degree of phenotypic plasticity. This genus may be found on all continents except for the Antarctic. Neopyropia has a heteromorphic life cycle, alternating macroscopic foliose monoecious gametophytic phase and a filamentous sporophytic phase, called the conchocelis. The gametophytic thallus consists of one cell layers in thickness with an extremely high surface area to volume ratio, and therefore, all cells can take up nutrients. Neopyropia can be found in various environments: from marine to estuarine; from eulittoral to sublittoral; and may be epilithic, epiphytic or epizoic. Neopyropia yezoensis has received much more attention than other species in this genus because this species is the dominant aquaculture species and has rapid growth. Recently, a complete plastid and mitochondria genome has been described in N. yezoensis, which provides critical insights to understand the origin and evolution of eukaryotes and the evolution of agronomic traits.
