The current biodiversity crisis warrants accurate measuring of biodiversity, often achieved by counting species or higher taxonomic units, with morphological or molecular methods. Alternatively, trait‐centred approaches categorise organisms into distinct ecological roles and then count the number of occupied roles to measure biodiversity. Even combinations of trait‐based and taxonomic approaches are utilised. However, when investigating the theoretical aspects, all these approaches have significant shortcomings, which complicate a reliable biodiversity measurement, that is, the ignorance of polymorphic species, the sensitivity to the initial classification or the knowledge gap concerning the ecology of the organisms. We outline a non‐discrete ecospace approach for which neither pronounced taxonomic expertise nor in‐depth knowledge about the ecology of the organisms is required. A morphospace based on quantitative morphological properties is used as a proxy for an ecospace, thus resulting in a continuous morpho‐ecospace. With this, decision‐making concerning taxonomy or ecology is reduced, as morphology is directly used instead of being first interpreted. Differences usually not considered due to polymorphism or ontogeny can be included in this approach, as well as fossils without species determination. Larvae of lacewings (Neuroptera) are known to be fierce predators today. Most characteristic are their prominent piercing-sucking stylets, which are used for venom injection and sucking out the fluids of the prey. Among lacewing larvae, aphidlions (larvae of the groups Chrysopidae and Hemerobiidae, green and brown lacewings) are today highly specialised to feed on aphids and evolved strategies to not be detected and attacked by, e.g., aphid-protecting ants. Fossil relatives of modern aphidlions seem to have also employed other strategies. For the species Pedanoptera arachnophila from about 100-million-year-old Kachin amber, Myanmar, an interaction of its larvae with spiders has been assumed. We present here new specimens resembling these larvae, including one piece of Cretaceous Kachin amber with a syn-inclusion of an aphidlion-like larva and an immature planthopper, indicating planthoppers as potential prey of the group about 100 million years ago. The morphology of the lacewing larva, with a trapezoid head capsule (in dorsal view), simple, toothless stylets, very elongate legs, and a spindle-shaped trunk, indicates that it is conspecific or at least closely related to P. arachnophila. Childhood obesity poses a significant public health challenge, yet the molecular intricacies underlying its pathobiology remain elusive. Leveraging extensive multi-omics profiling (methylome, miRNome, transcriptome, proteins and metabolites) and a rich phenotypic characterization across two parts of Europe within the population-based Human Early Life Exposome project, we unravel the molecular landscape of childhood obesity and associated metabolic dysfunction. Our integrative analysis uncovers three clusters of children defined by specific multi-omics profiles, one of which characterized not only by higher adiposity but also by a high degree of metabolic complications. This high-risk cluster exhibits a complex interplay across many biological pathways, predominantly underscored by inflammation-related cascades. Further, by incorporating comprehensive information from the environmental risk-scape of the critical pregnancy period, we identify pre-pregnancy body mass index and environmental pollutants like perfluorooctanoate and mercury as important determinants of the high-risk cluster. Overall, our work helps to identify potential risk factors for prevention and intervention strategies early in the life course aimed at mitigating obesity and its long-term health consequences. Including routine client feedback can increase the effectiveness of mental health interventions for children, especially when implemented as intended. Rate of implementation, or dose, of such feedback interventions has been shown to moderate results in some studies. Variation in implementation and use of client feedback may also contribute to the mixed results observed within the feedback literature. This study evaluates dose-response associations of client feedback using a novel Measurement Feedback System (MFS) within an indicated group intervention. The primary aim was to determine whether the rate of MFS implementation predicts symptom reduction in anxiety and depression among school-aged children. The secondary aim was to assess whether the rate of MFS implementation influences children's satisfaction with the group intervention or their dropout rates. Data were collected via a randomized factorial study (clinicaltrials.gov NCT04263558) across 58 primary schools in Norway. Children aged 8 to 12 years (N = 701) participated in a group-based, transdiagnostic intervention targeting elevated symptoms of anxiety or depression. Half of the child groups also received the feedback intervention using the MittEcho MFS. Group leaders (N = 83), recruited locally, facilitated the interventions. The MFS dose was measured using the Implementation Index, which combines the use of MFS by both children and providers (group leaders) into a single dose variable. Results showed no significant additional effect of dose of MFS on change in depression or anxiety scores, on user satisfaction with the intervention or on intervention dropout. The discussion addresses potential reasons for these non-significant findings and implications for MFS implementation in preventive, group-based interventions in school settings. Purpose: Studies show that data quality (DQ) issues are extremely costly for companies. To address such issues, as a starting point, there is a need to understand what DQ is. In his context, the 1996 paper "Anchoring data quality dimensions ontological foundations" by Wand and Wang has been highly influential on the understanding of DQ. However, the present study demonstrates that some of the assumptions made in their paper can be challenged. On this basis, this study seeks to develop clearer definitions. Design/methodology/approach: The assumptions behind Wand and Wang's DQ classification are discussed, on which basis three counter-propositions are formulated. These are investigated through a representation theoretical approach involving analyses of deficient mappings between real-world and information system states. On this basis, an intrinsic DQ classification is derived. A case study is conducted to investigate the value of the developed DQ classification. Findings: The representation theoretical analysis and the case study support the three propositions. These give rise to the development of a DQ classification that includes three primary intrinsic DQ dimensions (accuracy, completeness and conciseness), which are associated with six primary value-level DQ deficiencies (inaccuracy, incorrectness, meaninglessness, incompleteness, absence and redundancy). The case study supports the value of extending Wand and Wang's DQ classification with the three additional data deficiencies. Research limitations/implications: By improving the conceptual clarity of DQ, this study provides future research with an improved basis for studies and discussions of DQ. Introduction: SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of COVID-19 patients possibly reflect blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier (BCB) disruption due to systemic inflammation. However, some studies indicate that CSF antibodies signal a neurotropic infection. Currently, larger studies are needed to clarify this, and it is unknown if CSF antibodies appear solely after infection or also after COVID-19 vaccination. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the CSF dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in a multicenter study of COVID-19 patients and vaccinated controls. Methods: A cohort study of Danish and Norwegian COVID-19 patients and controls investigated with a lumbar puncture (April 2020–December 2022). Serum and CSF were analysed locally for routine investigations, and centrally at Statens Serum Institut (Danish governmental public health institute) for SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies against the spike protein using the Euroimmun (quantitative) and Wantai (qualitative) assays. Primary outcome was the quantity of CSF SARS-CoV-2 antibodies post-COVID versus post-vaccination. Secondary outcomes included regression models examining the relationship between CSF antibodies and serum levels, albumin ratio, CSF pleocytosis, COVID-19 severity, and temporal antibody dynamics. Results: We included 124 individuals (Mean [SD] age 47.2 [16.6]; 59.7% males surviving COVID-19 and controls. Of these, 86 had paired CSF-serum testing. Antibody-index calculations did not support a SARS-CoV-2 brain infection. Multi-variate regression revealed that CSF SARS-CoV-2 antibodies were most strongly influenced by serum antibody levels and BCB permeability, as measured by increasing albumin ratio. CSF antibody levels displayed a dose–response relationship (p < 0.0001) influenced by preceding vaccinations or infections. CSF antibody levels (median [IQR]) were highest among those both previously infected and vaccinated, 100.0 [25.0–174.0], and those vaccinated without prior infection, 85.0 [12.0–142.0], and lowest among previously infected individuals without preceding vaccination, 5.9 [2.7–55.1], (p = 0.003). SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in CSF were also detected via qualitative assays in the COVID-19 (46.8%) and vaccinated (78.6%) groups, p = 0.03. Conclusion: SARS-CoV-2 antibodies detected in CSF can be derived following both infection and vaccination for COVID-19. CSF antibody levels increase in a dose–response relationship with the number of prior infections and vaccinations and are most strongly influenced by serum antibody levels and BCB permeability. These findings stress the importance of carefully interpreting CSF antibody results when assessing neurological complications following infections not categorized as neurotropic. Introduction: The incidence and prevalence of infections with non-tuberculous mycobacteria such as Mycobacterium avium (Mav) are increasing. Prolonged drug regimens, inherent antibiotic resistance, and low cure rates underscore the need for improved treatment, which may be achieved by combining standard chemotherapy with drugs targeting the host immune system. Here, we examined if the diabetes type 2 drug metformin could improve Mav-infection. Methods: Metformin was administered to C57BL/6 mice infected intranasally with Mav and C57BL/6 mice were infected intranasally with Mav and treated with metformin over 3 weeks. Organ bacterial loads and lung pathology, inflammatory cytokines and immune cell profiles were assessed. For mechanistic insight, macrophages infected with Mav were treated with metformin alone or in combination with inhibitors for mitochondrial ROS or AMPK and assessed for bacterial burden and phagosome maturation. Results and discussion: Three weeks of metformin treatment significantly reduced the lung mycobacterial burden in mice infected with Mav without major changes in the overall lung pathology or immune cell composition. Metformin treatment had no significant impact on tissue inflammation except for a tendency of increased lung IFNγ and infiltration of Mav-specific IFNγ-secreting T cells. Metformin did, however, boost the antimicrobial capacity of infected macrophages directly by modulating metabolism/activating AMPK, increasing mitochondrial ROS and phagosome maturation, and indirectly by bolstering type I immunity. Taken together, our data show that metformin improved the control of Mav-infection in mice, mainly by strengthening antimicrobial defenses in macrophages, and suggest that metformin has potential as an adjunct treatment of Mav infections. Background: Toothache is a debilitating condition, often with mild to excruciating pain, swelling, eating difficulties and insomnia. This study aims to delineate the profiles of patients seeking emergency dental care, focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes following non-surgical root canal treatment. Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted from 2012 to 2021 at the Section for Endodontics, Department of Clinical Dentistry, University of Bergen, Norway. A total of 281 emergency patient forms were analyzed. Data registered included patient demographics, dental history, chief complaints, medications used, diagnostic results, treatments provided and outcome. Results: A total of 272 patients (272 teeth) were included in the study. Pain was the predominant complaint (98.5%), where only 57.4% of the patients managed to localize pain to a specific tooth. The mean age of patients was 51.2 years with no significant gender differences. The maxillary right first molar (15.4%) was the most frequent tooth needing treatment. The majority of the patients had experienced pain for three days before they attended the emergency appointment. The most frequently used drug for pain management was paracetamol which was stated to have little effect. Teeth that needed endodontic treatment often had restorations rather than caries. The most frequent diagnoses were pulpitis (26.8%) followed by necrotic pulp (25.4%) and previously root filled teeth (22.8%). Root canal treatment was performed on 60% of the teeth and a success rate of 95% was registered at one-year recall. Conclusions: There was no singular diagnostic cause leading patients to seek an emergency appointment, highlighting the necessity of a thorough diagnostic procedure. Over the counter pain medications have little effect on alleviating dental pain, often resulting in desperate measures of self-medication. 60% of the teeth needing emergency treatment had previous coronal restorations such as fillings or crowns, indicating that conservative treatment does not appear to fully protect against future pulpal disease. The good prognosis of root canal treatment for teeth with acute symptoms supports recommending dentists to attempt root canal treatment rather than opting for tooth extraction. Purpose: This study investigated the relationship between teacher autonomy support, students' basic psychological needs satisfaction, and involvement in physical education (PE) with gender specific analyses. Additionally, the study examined the validity of a Norwegian version of the Basic Psychological Needs in PE (BPN-PE) scale. Method: Survey data from the Norwegian 2017/2018 Health Behaviour in School-aged Children study. Results: A structural equation model showed that perceived autonomy support from teacher predicted students' basic needs satisfaction of competence, autonomy and relatedness. Furthermore, satisfaction of competence predicted weekly PE participation and physical activity during PE among boys. The analyses revealed mean level differences with boys scoring higher than girls on all the investigated variables. The findings also supported the validity and reliability of the BPN-PE scale across genders. Discussion/conclusion: The study adds knowledge to the understanding of the relationship between autonomy support from teachers, students basic need satisfaction and students' involvement in PE. Aroma compositions are usually complex mixtures of odor-active compounds exhibiting diverse molecular structures. Due to chemical interactions of these compounds in the olfactory system, assessing or even predicting the olfactory quality of such mixtures is a difficult task, not only for statistical models, but even for trained assessors. Here, we combine fast automated analytical assessment tools with human sensory data of 11 experienced panelists and machine learning algorithms. Using 16 previously analyzed whisky samples (American or Scotch origin), we apply the linear classifier OWSum to distinguish the samples based on their detected molecules and to gain insights into the key molecular structure characteristics and odor descriptors for sample type. Moreover, we use OWSum and a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture to classify the five most relevant odor attributes of each sample and predict their sensory scores with promising accuracies (up to F1: 0.71, MCC: 0.68, ROCAUC: 0.78). The predictions outperform the inter-panelist agreement and thus demonstrate previously impossible data-driven sensory assessment in mixtures. Introduction: Sign language fluency is an area that has received very little attention within research on sign language education and assessment. Therefore, we wanted to develop and validate a rating scale of fluency for Swiss German Sign Language (Deutschschweizerische Gebärdensprache , DSGS). Methods: Different kinds of data were collected to inform the rating scale development. The data were from (1) focus group interviews with sign language teachers (N = 3); (2) annotated DSGS data from users/learners with various levels of proficiency (i.e., deaf native signers of DSGS, hearing sign language interpreters, and beginning learners of DSGS, approximately CEFR level A1-A2) (N = 28) who completed different signing tasks that were manipulated by preparation time; (3) feedback from raters (N = 3); and (4) complimented with theory from spoken and sign language fluency. Results: In the focus group interview, sign language teachers identified a number of fluency aspects. The annotated DSGS data were analyzed using different regression models to see how language background and preparation time for the tasks can predict aspects of fluency (e.g., number and duration of pauses). Whereas preparation time showed only a slight effect in the annotated data, language background predicted the occurrence of fluency features that also informed the scale development. The resulting rating scale consisted of six criteria, each on a six-point scale. DSGS performances (N = 162) (same as the annotated data) from the different groups of DSGS users/learners were rated by three raters. The rated data were analyzed using multi-facet Rasch measurement. Overall, the rating scale functioned well, with each score category being modal at some point on the continuum. Results from correlation and regression analysis of the annotated data and rated DSGS performances complemented validity evidence of the rating scale. Discussion: We argue that the different sources of data serve as a sound empirical basis for the operationalized "DSGS fluency construct" in the rating scale. The results of the analyses relating performance data to ratings show strong validity evidence of the second version of the rating scale. Organoboron compounds are widely utilized in organic synthesis for their diverse reactivity, modular preparation, and stability compared to other classes of organometallic reagents. While organoboron species are commonly employed as nucleophiles in cross‐coupling reactions, their potential as racemic building blocks in enantioconvergent transformations remains largely untapped. Herein, we demonstrate the direct utilization of alkylboronic pinacol esters in intermolecular enantioconvergent transformations. Specifically, this work describes the development and mechanistic study of an enantioconvergent deborylative cyanation enabled by Cu catalysis. This method imparts a high degree of enantioselectivity and tolerates a wide range of common functional groups and heterocycles. The reaction is proposed to proceed through a radical‐relay mechanism. Aniline‐assisted homolysis of the carbon–boron bond results in prochiral alkyl radicals that are functionalized by in situ generated Cu(II)(CN)2 species in an enantioselective fashion. The Cu(II)(CN)2 intermediate was characterized by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, and its electronic structure was probed using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Artificial intelligence (AI) permeates all fields of life, which resulted in new challenges in requirements engineering for artificial intelligence (RE4AI), e.g., the difficulty in specifying and validating requirements for AI or considering new quality requirements due to emerging ethical implications. It is currently unclear if existing RE methods are sufficient or if new ones are needed to address these challenges. Therefore, our goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of RE4AI to researchers and practitioners. What has been achieved so far, i.e., what practices are available, and what research gaps and challenges still need to be addressed? To achieve this, we conducted a systematic mapping study combining query string search and extensive snowballing. The extracted data was aggregated, and results were synthesized using thematic analysis. Our selection process led to the inclusion of 126 primary studies. Existing RE4AI research focuses mainly on requirements analysis and elicitation, with most practices applied in these areas. Furthermore, we identified requirements specification, explainability, and the gap between machine learning engineers and end-users as the most prevalent challenges, along with a few others. Additionally, we proposed seven potential research directions to address these challenges. Practitioners can use our results to identify and select suitable RE methods for working on their AI-based systems, while researchers can build on the identified gaps and research directions to push the field forward. Background: Orthodontic appliances hinder proper oral hygiene, leading to plaque retention and biofilm formation which can cause dental diseases. This study investigates the initial impact of orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances versus clear aligners on microbial profiles and gingival/plaque indices. Methods: Nine patients were included in this small-scale prospective longitudinal pilot study – five in treatment with fixed appliances and four with clear aligners. Plaque biofilm samples were collected subgingivally, supragingivally and from clear aligner trays, and gingival and plaque indices were recorded at six timepoints over 3 months. DNA was extracted and next-generation 16S rRNA sequencing of the V4 region was performed. Results: Fixed appliance patients showed higher plaque and gingival index scores early on (p ≤ 0.05) and higher levels of oral pathogens (p ≤ 0.05). Microbiological analysis revealed distinct microbial communities on clear aligner trays, with health- and disease-associated microbes present at significantly different levels (p ≤ 0.05) compared to intraoral plaque samples. Conclusions: Patients undergoing orthodontic therapy with fixed appliances had higher levels of plaque retention and oral pathogens. Clear aligner patients' had microbial profiles with more oral health-associated species and lower gingival/plaque indices. However, the biofilm on clear aligner trays requires further study, and the small sample size limits the conclusiveness of all findings. Implications: Dentists may consider clear aligners as an alternative to fixed appliances, with potential benefits in plaque accumulation and oral microbial composition. This research paper examines the risks posed by the MIH EV Open platform to German automotive suppliers, in particular, the risk of commoditization and falling into a commodity trap. The term commodity trap describes a situation in which companies dealing with standardized products or services face intense price and margin pressure and struggle to differentiate themselves from competitors. The MIH EV Open platform, established by Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., headquartered in Tucheng, Taipei, Taiwan, aims to create a collaborative platform for the comprehensive development of key software, hardware components, and services in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. It unites over 2700 companies from more than 70 countries and fosters collaboration to accelerate the development and market entry of new EV products. This paper analyzes the MIH EV Open business ecosystem model and assesses the strengths and weaknesses of German suppliers in addressing these challenges. This study highlights strategic approaches, including innovation, portfolio adaptation, customer relationships, and sustainability practices, that can enable German suppliers to mitigate commodity trap risks. The findings underscore the importance of proactive, segment-specific strategies amidst the transformation of the automotive industry. Key insights are provided on the potential impact of open platform ecosystems and recommendations for German automotive suppliers to maintain competitiveness. A recently developed differential geometric representation of redundant serial robot kinematics is employed to create a new extended operational space dynamics and control formulation that explicitly accounts for redundant robot degrees of freedom. This formulation corrects deficiencies in kinematics and dynamics of redundant serial robots that have relied for over half a century on error-prone generalized inverse velocity-based kinematics for redundancy resolution. New ordinary differential equations of robot operational space dynamics are obtained, without the need for ad hoc derivation, in terms of task coordinates and self-motion coordinates that represent robot redundancy. A new extended operational space control approach is presented that exploits ordinary differential equations of motion in terms of task and self-motion coordinates, enabling enforcement of desired output trajectories, obstacle avoidance, and performance constraints. Four examples are presented with a one-degree-of-redundancy robot that demonstrate the validity and superior performance of the new formulation, relative to the traditional task space method used for redundant serial robot control. This paper outlines advances in biocultural approaches to anthropology by discussing anthropological approaches to understanding stress, how anthropologists have typically measured stress, and why it matters for anthropology and beyond. We discuss the application of common quantification techniques such as the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and biomarkers of psychosocial stress from abnormal hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis activity. We highlight case studies that demonstrate the utility of a biocultural approach to stress across a range of topics—(i) childhood effects, (ii) non-human animals, (iii) depression and anxiety, (iv) migration, and (v) religion—as well as the complexities in the relationship between perceived and biological stress. We conclude by highlighting several areas where we have seen significant advances and point to approaches in other disciplines that anthropology might incorporate to its benefit. Introduction: According to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, adolescents' involvement in their healthcare is a fundamental right, and self-engagement in mental health treatment is vital for realizing their potential within person-centered care (PCC). Research exists that highlights barriers to involving adolescents in their care decisions. However, research on adolescents' own voices about self-engagement in mental health treatment has been scarce. This scoping review aimed to examine and summarize current knowledge on adolescents' voices regarding self-engagement in mental health treatment. Method: The review followed the scoping methodology of Arksey and O'Malley from 2005, updated by Levac and colleagues in 2010, involving five stages: (1) identifying the research question, (2) identifying relevant studies, (3) study selection, (4) charting the data, and (5) collating, summarizing and reporting the results. Results: Nineteen studies were included. The following themes on adolescents' voices regarding self-engagement in mental health treatment were identified: (1) the therapeutic alliance, (2) the need for active engagement in treatment, (3) different experiences due to time of data collection, (4) treatment context and healthcare system, and (5) adolescent-caregiver interaction. Conclusion: Adolescents' understanding of self-engagement was multilevel and comprehensive, including individual, contextual and relational factors. A strong therapeutic alliance with healthcare providers, and a need to be actively engaged in treatment were highlighted. To succeed in strengthening PCC in mental healthcare for adolescents, health professionals must take this complex understanding into consideration, as treatment without adolescents' self-engagement may worsen their clinical outcomes. Future research should explore specific PCC interventions and incorporate diverse methodologies in various clinical contexts. Objectives: Radical prostatectomy (RP) is a common intervention in patients with localized prostate cancer (PCa), with nerve-sparing RP recommended to reduce adverse effects on patient quality of life. Accurate pre-operative detection of extraprostatic extension (EPE) remains challenging, often leading to the application of suboptimal treatment. The aim of this study was to enhance pre-operative EPE detection through multimodal data integration using explainable machine learning (ML). Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed PCa who underwent [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET/MRI and subsequent RP were recruited retrospectively from two time ranges for training, cross-validation, and independent validation. The presence of EPE was measured from post-surgical histopathology and predicted using ML and pre-operative parameters, including PET/MRI-derived features, blood-based markers, histology-derived parameters, and demographic parameters. ML models were subsequently compared with conventional PET/MRI-based image readings. Results: The study involved 107 patients, 59 (55%) of whom were affected by EPE according to postoperative findings for the initial training and cross-validation. The ML models demonstrated superior diagnostic performance over conventional PET/MRI image readings, with the explainable boosting machine model achieving an AUC of 0.88 (95% CI 0.87–0.89) during cross-validation and an AUC of 0.88 (95% CI 0.75–0.97) during independent validation. The ML approach integrating invasive features demonstrated better predictive capabilities for EPE compared to visual clinical read-outs (Cross-validation AUC 0.88 versus 0.71, p = 0.02). Conclusion: ML based on routinely acquired clinical data can significantly improve the pre-operative detection of EPE in PCa patients, potentially enabling more accurate clinical staging and decision-making, thereby improving patient outcomes. Following implementation of a national prevention program against iodine deficiency-related disorders in 1993 in Germany, the prevalence of thyroid disorders declined, but aggregated drug dispensation data suggested a recent increase in thyroid hormone use. We aimed to systematically investigate trends in the use of thyroid diagnostic and treatment measures between 2008 and 2019 in Germany. Using the GePaRD database (claims data from ~ 20% of the German population), we determined the annual age-specific and age-standardized prevalence of the use of thyroid diagnostics (thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) measurement, thyroid ultrasound, scintiscan, biopsy) and treatment (medication, surgery, radioiodine therapy) from 2008 to 2019 stratified by sex. Between 2008 and 2019, the age-standardized prevalence of TSH measurement increased by 44% in males (from 165 to 238 per 1,000 persons) and by 31% in females (from 134 to 176 per 1,000). The prevalence of thyroid ultrasound use showed no clear time trend, while there was a decrease in the prevalence of scintiscan use (males/females: decrease by 42/43%) and biopsy (males/females: decrease by 42/34%). The prevalence of levothyroxine use increased by ~ 31% both in males (from 36 to 47 per 1,000) and females (from 134 to 175 per 1,000), while the prevalence of thionamide use, iodine use, thyroidectomy, and radioiodine therapy decreased. Our study suggests a continued decline in the prevalence of clinically significant thyroid disorders between 2008 and 2019. The substantial increase in the prevalence of TSH measurement and levothyroxine use during this time period might indicate overuse of diagnostics and overtreatment, warranting further investigation. There are no clear guidelines regarding the optimal treatment sequence for advanced pancreatic cancer, as head‐to‐head phase III randomised trials are missing. We assess real‐world effectiveness of three common sequential treatment strategies by emulating a hypothetical randomised trial. This analysis included 1551 patients with advanced pancreatic cancer from the prospective, clinical cohort study Tumour Registry Pancreatic Cancer receiving FOLFIRINOX (n = 613) or gemcitabine/nab‐paclitaxel (GEMNAB; n = 938) as palliative first‐line treatment. We used marginal structural modelling to compare overall survival (OS) and time to deterioration (TTD) of health‐related quality of life (HRQoL) between three common first‐ to second‐line treatment sequences, adjusting for time‐varying potential confounding. The sequences were: FOLFIRINOX→GEMNAB, GEMNAB→FOLFOX/OFF and GEMNAB→nanoliposomal irinotecan (NALIRI) + 5‐fluorouracil. Outcome was also calculated stratified by patients' prognostic risk according to the Pancreatic Cancer Score. Median OS and TTD of HRQoL independent of risk were 10.7 [8.9, 11.9] and 6.4 [4.8, 7.7] months for FOLFIRINOX→GEMNAB, 8.4 [7.4, 9.7] and 5.8 [4.6, 7.1] months for GEMNAB→FOLFOX/OFF and 8.9 [7.8, 10.4] and 4.6 [4.1, 6.1] months for GEMNAB→NALIRI+5‐fluorouracil. Compared to FOLFIRINOX→GEMNAB, OS and TTD were worse for poor‐risk patients with GEMNAB→FOLFOX/OFF (OS: HR 2.09 [1.47, 2.98]; TTD: HR 1.97 [1.19, 3.27]) and those with GEMNAB→NALIRI+5‐fluorouracil (OS: HR 1.35, [0.76, 2.39]; TTD: HR 2.62 [1.56, 4.42]). The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 has necessitated the development of versatile vaccines capable of addressing evolving variants. Prime-2-CoV_Beta, a novel Orf virus-based COVID-19 vaccine, was developed to express the SARS-CoV-2 spike and nucleocapsid antigens. This first-in-human, phase I, dose-finding clinical trial was conducted to assess the safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity of Prime-2-CoV_Beta as a booster in healthy adults. From June 2022 to June 2023, 60 participants in Germany received varying doses of Prime-2-CoV_Beta. The study demonstrated a favorable safety profile, with no serious adverse events (AEs) reported. All AEs were mild (107) or moderate (10), with the most common symptoms being pain at the injection site, fatigue, and headache. Immunogenicity assessments revealed robust vaccine-induced antigen-specific immune responses. High doses notably elicited significant increases in antibodies against the spike and nucleocapsid proteins as well as neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants. Additionally, the vaccine did not induce ORFV-neutralizing antibodies, indicating the potential for repeated administration. In conclusion, Prime-2-CoV_Beta was safe, well tolerated, and immunogenic, demonstrating potential as a broadly protective vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants. Aims: We aimed to describe treatment of lung cancer patients in Germany based on health claims data, focusing particularly on differences by age. Materials and methods: Using the German Pharmacoepidemiological Research Database (GePaRD, ~ 20% of the German population) we identified lung cancer patients diagnosed in 2015–2018 based on a previously developed algorithm and followed them until death, end of continuous insurance or end of 2020. We described initial treatment patterns after diagnosis and survival, stratified among others by age. Results: We included 42,629 incident lung cancer patients (58% male). Surgery within three months after diagnosis was performed in 36%, 31%, 29% and 18% of patients aged < 50, 50–69, 70–79 and ≥ 80, respectively. Among patients without surgery, systemic therapy was administered in 77%, 72%, 54% and 25% of patients aged < 50, 50–69, 70–79 and ≥ 80, respectively. Monoclonal antibodies were administered in 15–30% of patients across age groups, and 4% to 15% received protein kinase inhibitors. Overall, 21% of patients remained untreated. In the age groups < 50, 50–69, 70–79 and ≥ 80, this proportions was 9%, 12%, 22% and 48%, respectively. Conclusion: In conclusion, our study provides a comprehensive overview of the therapy of lung cancer patients in Germany and quantitatively demonstrates the considerable differences between age groups. Oncoplastic breast surgery (OBS) arose to decrease the deformity following breast-conserving surgery (BCS) for breast cancer. In this meta-analysis (MA), we pool BREAST-Q questionnaire data to compare quality of life (QOL) in breast cancer patients who received BCS alone or in combination with level I or II oncoplastic breast surgery (BCS + OBS). All relevant databases were searched following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) and QUOROM (Quality of Reporting of Meta-Analyses) guidelines. All prospective or retrospective studies with a BCS or BCS + OBS cohort that reported QOL as assessed with the BREAST-Q questionnaire were eligible. Fifty-five studies (75 distinct patient cohorts; 11,186 patients) were included in the MA, with 12 studies reporting both preoperative and postoperative values and eligible for a pair-wise MA. The pair-wise MA showed a significant postoperative improvement in the overall satisfaction with the breast (mean difference [MD] +8.0%, P =.003) and in the psychosocial well-being (MD +9.2%, 3.5-14.8, P =.001) of the entire cohort (BCS and BCS + OBS). A subgroup MA of proportions highlighted a superiority of BCS + OBS to BCS in overall satisfaction with the breast (72.0%, 68.0-76.1, vs 62.9%, 58.3-67.5; P =.02) and psychosocial well-being (78.9%, 71.5-86.4, vs 73.3%, 67.3-76.5, P =.0001). A leave-1-out sensitivity analysis confirmed the results of the pair-wise MA and the MA of proportions. Oncoplastic breast surgery effectively improves QOL and patient satisfaction based on the patient-reported outcomes assessed with the BREAST-Q questionnaire. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are common constituents of many consumer products. Although many VOCs are generally considered harmless at low concentrations, some compound classes represent substances of concern in relation to human (inhalation) exposure and can elicit adverse health effects, especially when concentrations build up, such as in indoor settings. Determining VOC emissions from consumer products, such as toys, utensils or decorative articles, is of utmost importance to enable the assessment of inhalation exposure under real-world scenarios with respect to consumer safety. Due to the diverse sizes and shapes of such products, as well as their differing uses, a one-size-fits-all approach for measuring VOC emissions is not possible, thus, sampling procedures must be chosen carefully to best suit the sample under investigation. This review outlines the different sampling approaches for characterizing VOC emissions from consumer products, including headspace and emission test chamber methods. The advantages and disadvantages of each sampling technique are discussed in relation to their time and cost efficiency, as well as their suitability to realistically assess VOC inhalation exposures. Knowledge sharing is considered an important promotor of new product development (NPD) performance. However, studies have shown that making experts share knowledge in new product development (NPD) projects is often a challenging task. Consequently, this topic has attracted substantial attention in academic research. However, although studies have produced valuable insights, more detailed accounts of the mechanisms shaping knowledge sharing processes in NPD projects are sparse. To add to the knowledge on this topic, this study conducts a series of interviews with NPD professionals at manufacturers of high-tech industrial products to identify 'factors influencing knowledge sharing' (FIKS). The identified FIKS are explained through the socio-physiological theory, the 'reasoned action approach' (RAA). This involves several contributions. First, the study provides a detailed explanation of the role of FIKS by describing how they affect the behaviour of knowledge providers and receivers in NPD processes. Second, by identifying 161 FIKS in NPD processes, organised under 18 categories, the study offers the so far most extensive account of FIKS in NPD processes. Representatives of Schizomida, known as short-tailed whip scorpions, are an understudied group within Megoperculata. They are found subterraneanly in tropical and sub-tropical regions. They lack eyes, have superior mobility, and possess a flagellum which is relevant to their mating, but in general little is known about their general biology. Fossil representatives of Schizomida from a variety of time periods are available for study. Using 23 fossil specimens (14 of which are described here for the first time) and 86 extant individuals from the literature, changes in both body size and flagella shape in Schizomida were compared over time. Measurements of prosoma length and leg length were used as a proxy for body size, and a comparative size analysis was carried out. Individuals from the Cretaceous period were found to be significantly smaller than extant individuals, contrary to our expectations. For flagellum shape, images were used to create reconstructions, which were then analysed using an elliptic Fourier analysis followed by a principal component analysis. The morphological diversity of the male flagellum shape was found to have decreased between the Cretaceous and modern fauna. Simple Summary: Some trees produce a plastic-like product called resin, which when fossilized is called amber. In this study we comment on the current terminological difficulties regarding the description of fossil, non-fossil and so called "sub-fossil" resins. We furthermore report two long-haired lepidopteran caterpillars in resin from Brazil and Madagascar. It is likely they represent larvae of Erebidae (tussock moths and others) which typically have long hairs and spines. Long-haired caterpillars are exceptionally rare in amber with only one similar specimen to date, as most other caterpillars in resin are either "naked" or have a protective case. These new specimens also increase the known size range of caterpillars preserved in resin to up to 12 mm. We also emphasize the importance of images when describing and publishing caterpillars in resin, to allow broader morphological studies using all available specimens. Resin is a plastic-like product of trees. Older occurrences of such resin are referred to as amber and are considered fossil resin. Younger resins are termed copals. Even younger ones have been dubbed defaunation resins. Non-fossil resins remain in a terminological limbo, often referred to as "sub-fossils". We report two lepidopteran caterpillars preserved in non-fossil resin: one from Madagascar, one from Brazil. Prominent hairs (=setae) and spines (=spine-like setae) of the specimens make it likely that they represent larvae of Erebidae (e.g., tussock moths and others). So far, most known caterpillars preserved in resins are either "naked" or bear protective cases; only few are armoured with spines or hairs. In particular, long-haired caterpillars such as the ones reported here are so far almost absent. Only one specimen with comparable setae has been reported from 15-million-year-old Dominican amber, but no significant details of this specimen are accessible. We briefly also review the record of caterpillars known from the Holocene, recognising that it is very sparse. The new specimens demonstrate that very hairy caterpillars can readily be preserved in resins in fine detail. Beetle larvae show high diversity in forms and ecological roles. Beetle larvae are often roughly categorised into certain larval types, for example: campodeiform, onisciform, scarabeiform, or elateriform. Larvae of the latter type are virtually absent from the fossil record. Here, we report three amber pieces from Cretaceous Kachin amber, Myanmar (about 100 million years old) that together include nine elateriform beetle larvae. One of the amber pieces has a single specimen included. The specimen is interpreted as a larva of Elateridae, the group of click beetles, possibly of the ingroup Elaterinae; yet accessible details are limited. Eight specimens within the other two amber pieces show certain similarities with larvae of Elateridae, but show significant differences in the trunk end, which bears two lobes armed with hooks in these fossils. This very specific structure is well known in modern larvae of Ptilodactylidae (toed-winged beetles). Therefore, the fossils are interpreted as larvae of Ptilodactylidae. Both types of here reported elateriform larvae represent the first fossil record of larvae of their respective groups. It is well known that larval morphology does not evolve in concert with adult morphology, and a modern-type morphology of the one may precede that of the other. Hence, the new fossils are important indicators of the appearance of the modern larval morphologies of their respective lineages. The last century has witnessed many innovations in agriculture and food technologies that have ensured the production of sufficient quantities of good hygienic food. Animal scientists have contributed substantially to efficient breeding and feeding practices by adapting animals for faster growth and improving feed efficiency and utilization. Breeding goals and feeding recommendations have been proposed with a primary focus on profitability to promote significant changes in the macronutrient content, i.e., animal body protein and fat reduction. However, improving the nutritional quality of meat was not included in the profit assessment. Increasing the lean meat fraction is consistent with the goal of public dietary guidelines for human nutrition proposed in 1980, emphasizing the importance of reducing the consumption of animal fat, particularly saturated fat. The application of breeding and feeding tools to modify and improve the fatty acid composition has been partly implemented in pigs and broiler chickens to supplement the dietary recommendations for humans. The health benefits of lean "red meat" have been questioned in recent years, with dietary guidelines and upper limits being introduced for human intake. Animal breeding indirectly reduces the total and heme iron (the redness generator) content in meat, due to covariation with priority breeding goals. Two micronutrients play important roles in the human diet and are derived largely from meat (selenium) and milk (iodine) if the amount provided and absorbed is sufficient and predictable. The iodine content can be highly dependent on the use of novel (more sustainable) feeds. The micronutrients discussed in this study (Fe, Se, I, and vitamin D) highlight opportunities for the utilization of breeding and feeding knowledge to adjust their levels to procure meat with a high nutrient density. The gaps in micronutrient levels in humans must be addressed by navigating within approved animal feeding levels. Animal scientists must recognize the nutritional impact of breeding and feeding and advertise them. In addition, human nutritionists must acknowledge the existing and potential changes in animal production to meet the dietary guidelines. Although research has investigated the association between pathological gaming and academic performance in adolescence, the complexity of the relationship has not been thoroughly examined. This short longitudinal study aimed to investigate the interactions between pathological gaming, academic self-efficacy, academic initiative, and academic performance in an adolescent sample, focusing on sex differences. The participants (N = 2853; 50.1% boys) were students in the second and third years of upper secondary school. Their grade point average (GPA) at graduation the same year was obtained. The moderated mediation structural equation model results showed that academic self-efficacy, directly and indirectly through academic initiative, impacted later GPA. There was no direct effect of pathological gaming on academic initiative or GPA. However, academic self-efficacy moderated the impact of pathological gaming on GPA for boys. In other words, boys with increased pathological gaming tended to achieve poorer grades in school if they experienced a strong academic self-efficacy. This study contributes to the understanding of the complex interplay between sex, pathological gaming, academic self-efficacy, academic initiative, and academic performance. We suggest that future research examines confidence or other relevant factors as explanatory mechanisms in the relationships between pathological gaming, academic self-efficacy, and GPA, particularly in male samples. Purpose: Previous studies investigating the effects of using social media in the innovation processes of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) yield mixed results, and the conditions for achieving innovation benefits from social media are unclear. The present study seeks to contribute to the understanding of this topic. Design/methodology/approach: With a basis in the literature on open innovation and SMEs, this study develops a model that explains the role of social media in product innovation processes where technological focus and abilities are converted into product innovations. The model is tested through a survey of 305 Danish manufacturing SMEs. Findings: Findings show that SMEs with higher technological orientation (TO) are more inclined to use social media in their product innovation processes and that social media use explains 22.4 percent of the relationship between TO and product innovation performance. On the other hand, the data did not support the assumption that SMEs with high TO achieve higher product innovation benefits than low TO SMEs for similar levels of social media use. Practical implications: The results suggest that SMEs with lower levels of TO could increase their product innovation performance through increased use of social media in their innovation processes. Originality/value: The study provides new knowledge on the role of social media in SMEs' product innovation processes. As the level of TO increases, the use of social media in the innovation process becomes an increasingly important mechanism for deriving the full innovation potential from technological focus and abilities. Neurocristopathies such as CHARGE syndrome result from aberrant neural crest development. A large proportion of CHARGE cases are attributed to pathogenic variants in the gene encoding CHD7, chromodomain helicase DNA binding protein 7, which remodels chromatin. While the role for CHD7 in neural crest development is well documented, how this factor is specifically up-regulated in neural crest cells is not understood. Here, we use epigenomic profiling of chick and human neural crest to identify a cohort of enhancers regulating Chd7 expression in neural crest cells and other tissues. We functionally validate upstream transcription factor binding at candidate enhancers, revealing novel epistatic relationships between neural crest master regulators and Chd7, showing tissue-specific regulation of a globally acting chromatin remodeller. Furthermore, we find conserved enhancer features in human embryonic epigenomic data and validate the activity of the human equivalent CHD7 enhancers in the chick embryo. Our findings embed Chd7 in the neural crest gene regulatory network and offer potentially clinically relevant elements for interpreting CHARGE syndrome cases without causative allocation. CHARGE syndrome results from aberrant neural crest development, affecting eye, heart, and facial structures, and has been attributed to pathogenic variants of the chromatin remodeler CHD7. Introduction: Normal oral fibroblasts (NOFs) are located in the connective tissue of the oral mucosa. The NOFs play an important role in wound healing, tumor progression, and metastasis. They are subjected to influence by external and internal stimuli, among them extracellular vesicles (EVs), that are considered as important players in cell to cell communication, especially in carcinogenesis and metastatic processes. During tumorigenesis, stromal NOFs may undergo activation into cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) that modify their phenotype to provide pro-oncogenic signals that in turn facilitate tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis. The aim of the study was to reveal the effect of EVs derived from local (oral squamous cell carcinoma – OSCC) and distant (pancreatic adenocarcinoma – PDAC; malignant melanoma brain metastasis – MBM) cancer origin on NOFs and their possible change into a CAF-like direction. Methods: The effect of each of the cancer EV types on NOFs proliferation, viability, and migration was tested. Also, changes in gene expression of the wellestablished CAF biomarkers ACTA2, FAP, PDGFR, and two putative CAF biomarkers, the Ca2+- activated ion channels ANO1 and KCNMA, were studied. Results: Obtained results indicate that NOFs receive and process signals transmitted by EVs originating from both OSCC, PDAC, and MBM. The fibroblast response was dependent on EV origin and concentration, and duration of EV exposure. The presence of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) is essential for the survival and establishment of most plant species in nature. The reproductive success of invasive plant species in a particular habitat could also depend on these AM fungi. Cinchona pubescens, commonly known as quinine, is highly invasive on Santa Cruz Island, Galápagos, but at the same time severely endangered in its native range on mainland Ecuador due to overexploitation in the past. In this study, we aim at determining the AMF communities associated with C. pubescens at both locations to investigate whether the successful invasion of C. pubescens on Santa Cruz is related to its association with a particular community of AMF. For this, roots of C. pubescens trees were sampled at three sites, one site on Santa Cruz and two sites in the province of Loja, on mainland Ecuador. Communities of AM fungi were determined through the molecular cloning and sequencing of the 18S nrDNA gene and through the delimitation of Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs), associated with the plant roots. We found 36 AMF OTUs associated with C. pubescens, most of them belonging to the genus Glomus. The highest richness of AMF OTUs was detected in samples from sites located on mainland Ecuador. The AMF communities between Santa Cruz and mainland Ecuador were significantly different, and only five OTUs were shared between both locations. Two dominant OTUs in C. pubescens from Santa Cruz were detected but no dominant OTUs from mainland Ecuador. Almost two thirds of the OTUs associated with C. pubescens had a wide global distribution. Our results suggest that the successful invasion of C. pubescens on Santa Cruz could have been facilitated by local generalist AMF and not by particular AMF. The observed generalist AMF from both locations could be important for conservation plans of restoring the endangered C. pubescens in the native forests on mainland Ecuador. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) have gained increased importance in assessing outcomes after reconstructive surgery. This also applies to the reconstruction of vulvoperineal defects after resection of gynecological or colorectal cancers in women. The objective of this study is to analyze the current state of PROM tool use within this patient population. Methods: By systematic literature searches in Embase, Medline, and Web of Science, English-language studies published after 1980, including randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, and case series reporting on vulvoperineal defect reconstruction, which were included if they also analyzed quality of life (QoL) and/or PROMs. The PROM tools used by each study were extracted, analyzed, and compared. Results: The primary search yielded 2576 abstracts, of which 395 articles were retrieved in full text. Of these, 50 reported on vulvoperineal defect reconstruction, among which 27 studies analyzing QoL were found. Of those, 17 met the inclusion criteria for this systematic review. After full-text screening, 14 different PROM tools and 5 individual, non-standardized questionnaires were identified. Only 22% of studies used a validated PROM tool. Conclusion: Far too few studies currently use PROM tools to assess outcomes in oncological vulvoperineal defect reconstruction. Less than half of the used PROMs are validated. No PROM was designed to specifically measure QoL in this patient population. The standardized implementation of a validated PROM tool in the clinical treatment of this patient population is an essential step to improve outcomes, enable the comparison of research, and support evidence-based treatment approaches. New media are an important resource for the political participation of marginalized groups. However, there is still a lack of knowledge about the factors that influence whether this opportunity is used. Influencing factors emerge from both the Civic Voluntarism Model and previous research on migrants' political activity. Using data collected in 2019/2020 from 486 refugees living in Bavaria, we estimate linear probability models to investigate facilitating factors for the use of new media for political participation. The analysis shows that refugees in Germany who inform themselves about politics online tend to be predominantly male, higher educated, and politically involved. Language skills and the duration of stay also appear to be important. For the expression of one's political opinion online, gender and language skills have an impact, but informing oneself about German politics, political interest, and offline political activity in Germany are the most relevant factors. This indicates that there is a close link between on- und offline activity. However, using the internet requires particular resources, so that people with lower language skills, for example, are particularly disadvantaged. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
