This review addresses the issues of low consumer engagement and market development difficulties in intangible cultural heritage (ICH) products. Dietary ICH products are selected as research materials to discover contemporary commercial survival paths for ICH through the psychological effects of advertising. Firstly, this study examines the respective advantages of rational and emotional ICH advertisement in terms of emotional responses, cognitive responses, attitudes, recall, and recognition. Then, it explores the effects of different ICH advertisement types (rational advertisement, emotional advertisement) and different degrees of situational involvement (purchasing for oneself, purchasing gifts for others) on the advertising effectiveness, aiming to identify factors influencing the psychological effects of ICH advertisement. Through statistical analysis, the main conclusions are as follows: (1) Rational ICH advertisement prompts consumers to consider the actual attributes of ICH products, leading to a more positive purchasing attitude. (2) Emotional ICH advertisement is more effective in eliciting positive emotions from consumers and enhancing brand memory. (3) Under the scenario of purchasing a gift for others, emotional ICH advertisement has a more positive impact on consumers' attitudes towards advertising. (4) Under different degrees of situational involvement, rational ICH advertisement has a more positive impact on consumers' purchasing attitudes. This study not only provides guidance for optimizing ICH advertising strategies but also offers new directions for market expansion, contributing valuable insights into cultural heritage preservation, as well as the development and protection of ICH. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) can cause breathing difficulty, a rapid decline of exercise capacity, heart failure, and eventually death of the patients. The latest epidemiological study demonstrates that PH has a much higher incidence than previously thought. PH is still a highly fatal disease due to the many disadvantages of the current drugs, such as short half-life, lack of targeting, and potent side effects. The PH pathological features offer great opportunities for nanomedicines for PH. Recently, emerging nanomedicines demonstrated great advantages in the therapeutic effect of PH by enhancing the accumulation of drugs in PH lesion, optimizing drug efficacy, and minimizing drug side effects. However, this promising field of cross-cutting research is far from being widely explored due to the huge professional barriers. To solve this problem, we provide a comprehensive review for the latest progresses of nanomedicines in the treatment of PH. Firstly, we systematical summarized the PH pathological features and the current clinical drug treatment of PH. The advantages of nanomedicines are also deeply discussed in the treatment of PH. Subsequently, we focused on the research progresses of nanomedicines in PH through three aspects: advanced nano-drug delivery system for traditional drugs and new target drugs, gene therapy-based nanomedicines, and other nanomedicines for the treatment of PH. Finally, we also discussed the prospects and challenges for the clinical application of nanomedicines in PH, and provided directions for the research and development of nanomedicines for PH treatment in the future. Purpose: Sentiment lexicon is an essential resource for sentiment analysis of user reviews. By far, there is still a lack of domain sentiment lexicon with large scale and high accuracy for Chinese book reviews. This paper aims to construct a large-scale sentiment lexicon based on the ultrashort reviews of Chinese books. Design/methodology/approach: First, large-scale ultrashort reviews of Chinese books, whose length is no more than six Chinese characters, are collected and preprocessed as candidate sentiment words. Second, non-sentiment words are filtered out through certain rules, such as part of speech rules, context rules, feature word rules and user behaviour rules. Third, the relative frequency is used to select and judge the polarity of sentiment words. Finally, the performance of the sentiment lexicon is evaluated through experiments. Findings: This paper proposes a method of sentiment lexicon construction based on ultrashort reviews and successfully builds one for Chinese books with nearly 40,000 words based on the Douban book. Originality/value: Compared with the idea of constructing a sentiment lexicon based on a small number of reviews, the proposed method can give full play to the advantages of data scale to build a corpus. Moreover, different from the computer segmentation method, this method helps to avoid the problems caused by immature segmentation technology and an imperfect N-gram language model. Background: The serum surfactant protein D (SP-D) level is suggested to be a useful biomarker for acute lung injuries and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Whether the serum SP-D level could identify the severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the early stage has not been elucidated.Methods: We performed an observational study on 39 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients from The Fourth People's Hospital of Yiyang, Hunan, China. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, correlation analysis, and multivariate logistic regression model analysis were performed.Results: In the acute phase, the serum levels of SP-D were elevated significantly in severe COVID-19 patients than in mild cases (mean value ± standard deviation (SD), 449.7 ± 125.8 vs 245.9 ± 90.0 ng/mL, P<0.001), while the serum levels of SP-D in the recovery period were decreased dramatically than that in the acute phase (mean value ± SD, 129.5 ± 51.7 vs 292.9 ± 130.7 ng/ml, P<0.001), and so were for the stratified patients. The chest CT imaging scores were considerably higher in the severe group compared with those in the mild group (median value, 10.0 vs 9.0, P = 0.011), while markedly lower in the recovery period than those in the acute phase (median value, 2.0 vs 9.0, P<0.001), and so were for the stratified patients. ROC curve analysis revealed that areas under the curve of lymphocyte counts (LYM), C-reaction protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and SP-D for severe COVID-19 were 0.719, 0.833, 0.817, 0.837, and 0.922, respectively. Correlation analysis showed that the SP-D levels were negatively correlated with LYM (r = - 0.320, P = 0.047), while positively correlated with CRP (r = 0.658, P<0.001), IL-6 (r = 0.471, P = 0.002), the duration of nucleic acid of throat swab turning negative (r = 0.668, P<0.001), chest CT imaging score on admission (r = 0.695, P<0.001) and length of stay (r = 0.420, P = 0.008). Multivariate logistic regression model analysis showed that age (P = 0.041, OR = 1.093) and SP-D (P = 0.008, OR = 1.018) were risk factors for severe COVID-19.Conclusions: Elevated serum SP-D level was a potential biomarker for the severity of COVID-19; this may be useful in identifying patients whose condition worsens at an early stage. Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the Western world. Despite tremendous strides in understandings its pathogenesis, it still remains a challenge because of gaps in our understanding of its initiation, progression and complications leading to the clinical syndromes of angina, acute coronary syndrome, cerebrovascular disease and peripheral vascular disease. Recent studies have provided impetus on the shift from models of atherosclerosis based on cellular interactions to models where the important role of extracellular matrix is recognized. Proteoglycans, especially those belonging to the small leucine-rich proteoglycan family of which decorin is a representative example, have come under close scrutiny for their role in atherogenesis. There is evidence from in vitro and in vivo animal models as well as humans to suggest an important role of decorin in attenuating progression of atherosclerosis. Decorin distribution in different blood vessels has been shown to inversely correlate with the tendency to develop atherosclerosis. Decorin seems to interact closely with different cellular components of the plaque milieu, thereby suggesting its role in influencing atherogenesis at different steps. Obesity is one of the most common lifestyle-related diseases. Being closely associated with insulin resistance, hypertension and dyslipidemia, it is also a component of metabolic syndrome and is involved in the development of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular and renal ailments. Obesity is also accompanied with a state of chronic inflammation. Lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1 (LOX-1), a receptor for oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL), is expressed not only in endothelial cells, but also in macrophages, vascular smooth muscle cells, platelets and adipocytes. LOX-1 binds multiple ligands, has diverse physiological functions and plays a critical role in the signal transduction. It may well turn out to be a key, or very important, factor in the development of hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia, the most important risk factors for atherosclerosis. In recent studies, LOX-1 upregulation appears to be a vital factor in obesity and its complications. Angiogenesis is defined as the formation of new blood vessels sprouting from pre-existing vessels. It plays an important role not only in physiological situations such as embryonic vascular development and wound healing, but also in pathological conditions including atherogenesis and evolution and spread of certain tumors. Lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1 (LOX-1), a receptor for oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL), is mainly expressed in endothelial cells. It has diverse physiological functions and it could be a link between atherogenesis and tumorigenesis. The risk factors for atherosclerosis like hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia are associated with LOX-1. Dyslipidemia and obesity are also being recognized as risk factor for certain tumors. LOX-1 is also found to be important for maintaining the transformed state in developmentally diverse cancer cell lines and for tumor growth. There is emerging evidence that LOX-1 plays an important role in the angiogenesis process. In this review, we outline the roles of angiogenesis in atherogenesis and tumorigenesis, and describe the role of LOX-1 as a potential molecular target for blocking angiogenesis. Diabetes mellitus is a common metabolic disease characterized by a state of oxidative stress, inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. This malady can lead to a number of complications such as ischemic heart disease, nephropathy, neuropathy, retinopathy and impaired wound healing. The etiology of diabetic complications is multifactorial, and is closely associated with oxidative stress and inflammation. Lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor-1 (LOX-1), a receptor for oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL), plays critical roles in multiple signal transduction pathways and is involved in the process of oxidative stress and inflammation. Recent studies provide important insights into the roles of LOX-1 in the development and progression of diabetic vasculopathy which is the underlying mechanism of diabetic complications. Hypertension is a common disease and a potent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Tremendous strides have been made in understanding its genesis in the last 2 decades. Hypertension is often clustered with other cardiovascular risk factors, such as dyslipidemia and diabetes. The state of hypertension is often associated with increased vascular oxidative stress. Oxidative stress promotes proliferation and hypertrophy of vascular smooth muscle cell and collagen deposition, leading to thickening of the vascular media and narrowing of the vascular lumen. Oxidative stress also injures endothelium, impairs endothelium-dependent vascular relaxation and increases vascular contractile activity. Further, oxidative stress also oxidizes LDL-cholesterol. It has been shown that oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) activates renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and angiotensin II via its type 1 receptor activates ox-LDL receptor LOX-1. This mutually facilitative cross-talk between ox-LDL and RAS may be an important component in the development of hypertension. Aims Vascular peroxidase 1 (VPO1) is a newly identified haem-containing peroxidase that catalyses the oxidation of a variety of substrates by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Considering the well-defined effects of H2O2 on the vascular remodelling during hypertension, and that VPO1 can utilize H2O2 generated from co-expressed NADPH oxidases to catalyse peroxidative reactions, the aims of this study were to determine the potential role of VPO1 in vascular remodelling during hypertension. Methods and results The vascular morphology and the expression of VPO1 in arterial tissues of spontaneously hypertensive rats and Wistar–Kyoto rats were assessed. The VPO1 expression was significantly increased concomitantly with definite vascular remodelling assessed by evaluating the media thickness, lumen diameter, media thickness-to-lumen diameter ratio and mean nuclear area in artery media in spontaneously hypertensive rats. In addition, in cultured rat aortic smooth muscle cells we found that the angiotensin II-mediated cell proliferation was inhibited by knockdown of VPO1 using small hairpin RNA. Moreover, the NADPH oxidase inhibitor, apocynin, and the hydrogen peroxide scavenger, catalase, but not the ERK1/2 inhibitor, PD98059, attenuated angiotensin II-mediated up-regulation of VPO1 and generation of hypochlorous acid. Conclusion VPO1 is a novel regulator of vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation via NADPH oxidase–H2O2–VPO1–hypochlorous acid–ERK1/2 pathways, which may contribute to vascular remodelling in hypertension. Activation of LOX-1, a lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor-1, exerts a significant role in collagen formation. Abstract: Objective: Chronic ischemia is associated with alterations in genes that result in myocardial remodeling. An important biochemical basis of cardiac remodeling is generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). A few studies have suggested that acute ischemia triggers signals for remodeling. We examined the hypothesis that targeted deletion of lectin-like oxidized-LDL receptor (LOX-1) may inhibit signals related to cardiac remodeling. Methods and results: We generated LOX-1 knockout (KO) mice on C57BL/6 (wild-type mice) background, and subjected wild-type and KO mice to ischemia–reperfusion (I–R). The wild-type mice developed a marked reduction in left ventricular systolic pressure and ±dp/dtmax and an increase in left ventricular end-diastolic pressure following I–R, and this change was much less in the LOX-1 KO mice, indicating preservation of left ventricular function with LOX-1 deletion. There was evidence for marked oxidative stress (NADPH oxidase expression, malondialdehyde and 8-isoprostane) following I–R in the wild-type mice, much less so in the LOX-1 KO mice (P <0.01). In concert, collagen deposition (Masson''s trichrome and Picro-sirius red staining) increased dramatically in the wild-type mice, but only half as much in the LOX-1 KO mice (P <0.01). Collagen staining data was corroborated with procollagen-I expression. Further, fibronectin and osteopontin expression increased in the wild-type mice, but to a much smaller extent in the LOX-1 KO mice (P <0.01). Conclusions: These findings provide compelling evidence that LOX-1 is a key modulator of cardiac remodeling which starts immediately following I–R. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
