Background: Keloid is a disease characterized by proliferation of fibrous tissue after the healing of skin tissue, which seriously affects the daily life of patients. However, the clinical treatment of keloids still has limitations, that is, it is not effective in controlling keloids, resulting in a high recurrence rate. Thus, it is urgent to identify new signatures to improve the diagnosis and treatment of keloids. Method: Bulk RNA seq and scRNA seq data were downloaded from the GEO database. First, we used WGCNA and MEGENA to co-identify keloid/immune-related DEGs. Subsequently, we used three machine learning algorithms (Randomforest, SVM-RFE, and LASSO) to identify hub immune-related genes of keloid (KHIGs) and investigated the heterogeneous expression of KHIGs during fibroblast subpopulation differentiation using scRNA-seq. Finally, we used HE and Masson staining, quantitative reverse transcription-PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemical, and Immunofluorescent assay to investigate the dysregulated expression and the mechanism of retinoic acid in keloids. Results: In the present study, we identified PTGFR, RBP5, and LIF as KHIGs and validated their diagnostic performance. Subsequently, we constructed a novel artificial neural network molecular diagnostic model based on the transcriptome pattern of KHIGs, which is expected to break through the current dilemma faced by molecular diagnosis of keloids in the clinic. Meanwhile, the constructed IG score can also effectively predict keloid risk, which provides a new strategy for keloid prevention. Additionally, we observed that KHIGs were also heterogeneously expressed in the constructed differentiation trajectories of fibroblast subtypes, which may affect the differentiation of fibroblast subtypes and thus lead to dysregulation of the immune microenvironment in keloids. Finally, we found that retinoic acid may treat or alleviate keloids by inhibiting RBP5 to differentiate pro-inflammatory fibroblasts (PIF) to mesenchymal fibroblasts (MF), which further reduces collagen secretion. Conclusion: In summary, the present study provides novel immune signatures (PTGFR, RBP5, and LIF) for keloid diagnosis and treatment, and identifies retinoic acid as potential anti-keloid drugs. More importantly, we provide a new perspective for understanding the interactions between different fibroblast subtypes in keloids and the remodeling of their immune microenvironment. Background: This meta-analysis investigated the influence of exercise on cognitive function in people living with diabetes. Methods: Stringent criteria for literature inclusion and exclusion were defined. Searches were conducted across four English databases to gather randomized controlled trials investigating exercise interventions for cognitive function in people living with diabetes. Outcome indicators from 1193 subjects across 12 articles were analyzed using RevMan 5.4 software. Results: Exercise intervention demonstrated the ability to mitigate cognitive decline in people living with diabetes, with a combined effect size (standardized mean difference) of 0.91, 95% CI: 0.28, 1.54, P < 0.00001. The intervention effect showed significant modulation by intervention content (I2 = 95%), intervention duration (I2 = 95%), intervention frequency (I2 = 95%), and intervention cycle (I2 = 96%). Among these factors, multi-component exercise, sessions >40 minutes, exercise frequency >4 times per week, and sustained exercise for >6 months were paramount, all with P < 0.05. Conclusion: Exercise intervention emerges as a viable strategy for delaying cognitive decline in people living with diabetes. Its efficacy is subject to modulation by various variables. Based on the land economic density of 892 town units, the spatial pattern of the land economic density in Zhejiang Province is analyzed using the coefficient of variation, spatial classification, and spatial correlation methods, and the influencing factors are analyzed using a spatial regression model. The results are as follows: (1) The coefficients of variation were 2.6 and 3.1 in 2014 and 2019, respectively, indicating that the degree of imbalance of the town's industrial economy at the county level increased. (2) The distribution of the high-level agglomeration areas was characterized by one core area and two sub-core areas. The main core area was located at the junction of Hangzhou City, Shaoxing City, and Jiaxing City, and the two sub-core areas were located in Yuyao City and the main urban area of Ningbo City. In addition, several small-scale agglomeration areas composed of medium and high-level units were distributed in Wenzhou City. (3) The high-value agglomeration and low-value agglomeration distribution in the spatial correlation patterns was identified using the spatial auto-correlation method. The hot spots and sub-hot spots were distributed in Northern Zhejiang, and the cold spots formed a large-scale agglomeration in Quzhou City, Lishui City, Taizhou City, and several other cities in Southern Zhejiang. (4) Compared with the county scale, the spatial scope of the high-level areas in Northern Zhejiang shrunk significantly at the township scale, and the high-level agglomeration areas along the southeast coast changed into a cluster of several townships. (5) According to the geographically weighted regression (GWR) model, the importance of influencing factors is as follows: population density > regional area > industrial output value per capita > total population > proportion of secondary and tertiary personnel > total employees. Tumor metastasis involves cells migrating directionally in response to external chemical signals. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the form of H2O2 has been demonstrated as a chemoattractant for neutrophils but its spatial characteristics in tumor microenvironment and potential role in tumor cell dissemination remain unknown. Here we investigate the spatial ROS distribution in 3D tumor spheroids and identify a ROS concentration gradient in spheroid periphery, which projects into a H2O2 gradient in tumor microenvironment. We further reveal the role of H2O2 gradient to induce chemotaxis of tumor cells by activating Src and subsequently inhibiting RhoA. Finally, we observe that the absence of mitochondria cristae remodeling proteins including the mitochondria-localized actin motor Myosin 19 (Myo19) enhances ROS gradient and promotes tumor dissemination. Myo19 downregulation is seen in many tumors, and Myo19 expression is negatively associated with tumor metastasis in vivo. Together, our study reveals the chemoattractant role of tumor microenvironmental ROS and implies the potential impact of mitochondria cristae disorganization on tumor invasion and metastasis. The massive use of fossil fuels releases a great amount of CO2, which substantially contributes to the global warming. For the global goal of putting CO2 emission under control, effective utilization of CO2 is particularly meaningful. Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (eCO2RR) has great potential in CO2 utilization, because it can convert CO2 into valuable carbon‐containing chemicals and feedstock using renewable electricity. The catalyst design for eCO2RR is a key challenge to achieving efficient conversion of CO2 to fuels and useful chemicals. For a typical heterogeneous catalyst, surface and interface engineering is an effective approach to enhance reaction activity. Herein, the development and research progress in CO2 catalysts with focus on surface and interface engineering are reviewed. First, the fundaments of eCO2RR is briefly discussed from the reaction mechanism to performance evaluation methods, introducing the role of the surface and interface engineering of electrocatalyst in eCO2RR. Then, several routes to optimize the surface and interface of CO2 electrocatalysts, including morphology, dopants, atomic vacancies, grain boundaries, surface modification, etc. are reviewed and representative examples are given. Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease. We previously revealed that the natural compound artemisitene (ATT) exhibits excellent broad anticancer activities without toxicity on normal tissues. Nevertheless, the effect of ATT on RA is undiscovered. Herein, we aim to study the effect and potential mechanism of ATT on RA management. Methods: A collagen‐induced arthritis (CIA) mouse model was employed to confirm the anti‐RA potential of ATT. Cell Counting Kit‐8 (CCK‐8) and 5‐ethynyl‐2'‐deoxyuridine (EdU) assays, cell cycle and apoptosis analysis, immunofluorescence, migration and invasion assays, quantitative real‐time PCR (RT‐qPCR), Western blot, RNA‐sequencing (RNA‐seq) analysis, plasmid construction and lentivirus infection, and methylated RNA immunoprecipitation and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays, were carried out to confirm the effect and potential mechanism of ATT on RA management. Results: ATT relieved CIA in mice. ATT inhibited proliferation and induced apoptosis of RA‐fibroblast‐like synoviocytes (FLSs). ATT restrained RA‐FLSs migration and invasion via suppressing epithelial–mesenchymal transition. RNA‐sequencing analysis and bioinformatics analysis identified intercellular adhesion molecule 2 (ICAM2) as a promoter of RA progression in RA‐FLSs. ATT inhibits RA progression by suppressing ICAM2/phosphoinositide 3‐kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/p300 pathway in RA‐FLSs. Moreover, ATT inhibited methyltransferase‐like 3 (METTL3)‐mediated N6‐methyladenosine methylation of ICAM2 mRNA in RA‐FLSs. Interestingly, p300 directly facilitated METTL3 transcription, which could be restrained by ATT in RA‐FLSs. Importantly, METTL3, ICAM2 and p300 expressions in synovium tissues of RA patients were related to clinical characteristics and therapy response. Conclusions: We provided strong evidence that ATT has therapeutic potential for RA management by suppressing proliferation, migration and invasion, in addition to inducing apoptosis of RA‐FLSs through modulating METTL3/ICAM2/PI3K/AKT/p300 feedback loop, supplying the fundamental basis for the clinical application of ATT in RA therapy. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common disease worldwide and is treated commonly with methotrexate (MTX). CS12192 is a novel JAK3 inhibitor discovered by Chipscreen Biosciences for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. In the present study, we examined the therapeutic effect of CS12192 against RA and explored if the combinational therapy of CS12192 and MTX produced a synergistic effect against RA in rat collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). Arthritis was induced in male Sprague-Dawley rats by two intradermal injections of bovine type II collagen (CII) and treated with MTX, CS12192, or the combination of CS12192 and MTX daily for two weeks. Effects of different treatments on arthritis score, X-ray score, pathology, and expression of inflammatory cytokines and biomarkers were examined. We found that treatment with either CS12192 or MTX produced a comparable therapeutic effect on CIA including: (1) significantly lowering the arthritis score, X-ray score, serum levels of rheumatic factor (RF), C-reactive protein (CRP), and anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA); (2) largely alleviating histopathological damage, reducing infiltration of Th17 cells while promoting Treg cells; (3) inhibiting the expression of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines such as IL-1β, TNF-α, IL-6, CCL2, and CXCL1. All these inhibitory effects were further improved by the combinational therapy with MTX and CS12192. Of importance, the combinational treatment also resulted in a marked switching of the Th17 to Treg and the M1 to M2 immune responses in synovial tissues of CIA. Thus, when compared to the monotherapy, the combination treatment with CS12192 and MTX produces a better therapeutic effect against CIA with a greater suppressive effect on T cells and macrophage-mediated joint inflammation. In this study, a novel series of 7-azaindole-1,2,3-triazole bearing N-benzamide derivatives 3a–3r were synthesized and fully characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and MS. The prepared compounds were tested against A549 and HepG2 cell lines by using MTT assay in vitro anticancer activity. Compounds 3d, 3l, 3q, and 3r exhibited the most promising, with IC50 (7.83, 7.58, 9.47, and 8.65 μM, respectively) against A549 compared with Gefitinib (IC50, 6.77 μM) and IC50 (6.98, 6.69, 10.18, and 7.97 μM, respectively) against HepG2 compared with Sorafenib (IC50, 5.65 μM). Further molecular docking studies showed that compounds 3d, 3l, 3q, and 3r can bind well to protein targets 3LXY, 4AGD, and 3WZE, so these compounds have the potential to be developed into multi-targeted kinase inhibitor. A series of deferasirox derivatives of 1,2,4‐triazole (5 a–i,6 a–g) were designed and synthesized by the ring‐opening rearrangement reaction of phenyl hydrazine or its substituents and imines, compounds 5 d–i, 6 e–g are previously unknown. Obtained derivatives were characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and Mass spectral. The antibacterial activities of all compounds against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger were experimentally evaluated. Most of them exhibited potential antimicrobial activity and promising antifungal activity. Especially, 6 f and 6 g showed the best antimicrobial activity (MIC90=0.125–2.0 μg/mL) against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli, while compounds 6 c, 6 e showed excellent antifungal activity (MIC90=0.5–2.0 μg/mL). Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is a progressive and systemic autoimmune disease seriously compromises human health. Fibroblast like synoviocytes are the major effectors of proliferation and inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis synovial tissue. Shikonin has anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities. But, its role on synovitis of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown. Methods: The DBA/1 male mice were randomly divided into the following three groups (n = 6): (1) the normal control group of mice, (2) the CIA (collagen-induced arthritis) group in which mice suffered from arthritis induced by collagen, (3) the SKN (shikonin) group of mice which got arthritis and given intragastrically with shikonin 4 mg/kg per day continuously for 20 days,(4) the MTX (methotrexate) group of mice which got arthritis and orally administration with shikonin 0.5 mg/kg once two days continuously for 20 days. The therapeutic effect of shikonin on collagen induced arthritis mice was tested by arthritis incidence rate, arthritis score and inflammatory joint histopathology. The invasion, adhesion and migration of fibroblast like synoviocytes induced by tumor necrosis factor-α were applied to measure the anti-synovitis role of shikonin. The effect of shikonin on expression of interleukin-6, interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. The interaction between shikonin and suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 was verified by molecular docking. The signaling pathways activated by shikonin were measured by western blot. Results: Shikonin decreased the arthritis score and arthritis incidence, and inhibited inflammation of inflamed joints in collagen induced arthritis mice. And shikonin reduced the number of vimentin+cells in collagen induced arthritis mice inflamed joints. Meanwhile, shikonin suppressed tumor necrosis factor-α-induced invasion, adhesion and migration of fibroblast like synoviocytes and reduced the expression of interleukin-6, interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α. And we found that shikonin targeted suppressor of cytokine signaling 1. More interestingly, shikonin blocked the phosphorylation of Janus kinase 1/signal transducer andactivator of transcription 1/signal transducer andactivator of transcription 6 in synovial tissues and in fibroblast like synoviocytes. Conclusion: Shikonin represents a promising new anti-rheumatoid arthritis drug candidate that has anti-synovitis effect in collagen induced arthritis mice and inhibits tumor necrosis factor-α-induced fibroblast like synoviocytes by targeting suppressor of cytokine signaling 1/ Janus kinase/signal transducer andactivator of transcription signaling pathway. Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) plays a critical role in the pathological processes of various diseases. However, the signaling mechanism of TGF-β in the pathological response remains largely unclear. In this review, we discuss advances in research of Smad7, a member of the I-Smads family and a negative regulator of TGF-β signaling, and mainly review the expression and its function in diseases. Smad7 inhibits the activation of the NF-κB and TGF-β signaling pathways and plays a pivotal role in the prevention and treatment of various diseases. Specifically, Smad7 can not only attenuate growth inhibition, fibrosis, apoptosis, inflammation, and inflammatory T cell differentiation, but also promotes epithelial cells migration or disease development. In this review, we aim to summarize the various biological functions of Smad7 in autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases, cancers, and kidney diseases, focusing on the molecular mechanisms of the transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulation of Smad7. To compare the visual performance after implantation of three aberration-correcting aspherical intraocular lens (IOL). Seventy-seven eyes of 77 cataract patients were divided into three groups: 26 eyes implanted with a non-constant aberration IOL (LUCIA 601P IOL, Zeiss Company, Germany); 26 eyes implanted with a spherical aberration −0.18μm IOL (CT ASPHINA 509M, Zeiss Company, Germany) and 27 eyes implanted with a spherical aberration −0.27μm IOL (AMO Tecnis ZCB00, Johnson & Johnson Surgical Vision, USA). Three months after operation, the distance visual acuity, wavefront aberrometry, contrast sensitivity, intraocular stray light, IOL decentration, and tilt were evaluated. Three months postoperatively, no statistically significant differences were found in uncorrected distance visual acuity and corrected distance visual acuity (p≥.83). The RMS for total ocular coma was statistically significantly lower in the Lucia group (p=.03) and spherical aberration was statistically significantly lower in the Tecnis group (p<.01). No statistically significant differences were observed among the three lenses in higher order aberration (p=.85) and in contrast sensitivity under both photopic and mesopic lighting conditions (p≥.05). The intraocular stray light was statistically significantly better in the Lucia group (p=.04). No statistically significant differences were observed with respect to IOL decentration (p=.75) and tilt (p=.89). Cataract surgery with non-constant aberration IOL resulted in lower coma and better intraocular stray light than with the spherical aberration −0.18μm and −0.27μm IOLs despite equivalent postoperative levels of visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. Aim. To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of phacoemulsification surgery combined with intravitreal injection of conbercept in cataract patients with DME. Methods. This is a prospective clinical cohort study. Thirty-five cataract patients (49 eyes) with DME were divided into two groups. The observation group (23 eyes) underwent a cataract phacoemulsification surgery combined with intravitreal injection of conbercept 0.5 mg; the control group (26 eyes) underwent a cataract phacoemulsification surgery only. The visual acuity, central macular thickness (CMT), IOP, and anterior chamber flare were examined before surgery and 1 week and one month after surgery. Results. The UCVA and BCVA in Log MAR in the observation group were lower than those in the control group at 1 week (p = 0.032 ; p = 0.041) and 1 month (p = 0.035 ; p = 0.039), respectively, after the surgery. The CMT of the observation group changed from 492.7 ± 32.2 μm before surgery to 341.6 ± 59.9 μm one week after surgery and 374.8 ± 48.3 μm one month after surgery. The CMT of control group increased after surgery. There was no significant difference in IOP and flare between the two groups at all following times. Conclusion. In patients with DME, undergoing a cataract surgery combined with intravitreal injection of conbercept is safe and effective for visual improvement and CMT declination with relatively fewer IOP and flare fluctuation. Background & Aim: Shortage of donor hepatocytes limits hepatocyte transplantation for clinical application. Induced hepatic stem cells (iHepSCs) have capacities of self‐renewal and bipotential differentiations. Here, we investigated whether iHepSCs could be extensively expanded, and whether they could differentiate into sufficient functional hepatocytes as donors for transplantation therapy after their extensive expansions. Methods: Murine extensively expanded iHepSCs (50‐55 passages) were induced to differentiate into iHepSC‐Heps under a chemically defined condition. iHepSC‐Heps were proved for carrying morphological hepatocyte characters and hepatocytic functions including low‐density lipoprotein uptake, glycogen storage, CLF secretion, ICG uptake and release, Alb secretion, urea synthesis and metabolism‐relative gene expressions respectively. Next, both iHepSCs and iHepSC‐Heps were transplanted into Fah‐/‐ mice respectively. Both liver repopulation and alleviation of liver function were compared between two transplantation groups. Results: Murine iHepSCs still maintained the capacities of self‐renewal and bipotential differentiations after extensive expansion. The efficiency for the functional hepatocyte differentiation from extensively expanded iHepSCs reached to 72.64%. Transplantations of both extensively expanded iHepSCs and iHepSC‐Heps resulted in liver engraftment in Fah‐/‐ mice. Survival rate of Fah‐/‐ mice recipients and level of liver repopulation were 50% and 20.32 ± 4.58% respectively in iHepSC‐Heps group, while 33% and 10.4 ± 4.3% in iHepSCs group. Conclusions: Extensively expanded iHepSCs can efficiently differentiate into hepatocytes in chemical defined medium. Transplantation of iHepSC‐Heps was more effective and more efficient than transplantation of iHepSCs in Fah‐/‐ mice. Our results suggested an innovative system to obtain sufficient hepatocytes through hepatic differentiation of iHepSCs generated by lineage reprogramming. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The quest for developing electrochemical energy‐storage and ‐conversion technologies continues to be a great impetus to develop cost‐effective, highly active, and electrochemically stable electrocatalysts for overcoming the activation energy barriers of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Co3O4 nanocrystals have great potential as OER catalysts, and research efforts on improving the catalytic activity of Co3O4 are currently underway in many laboratories. Herein, CoFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets were directly grown on the active Co3O4 substrate to form nanohybrid electrocatalysts for OER. The CoFe LDH/Co3O4(6:4) nanohybrid exhibited superior catalytic performance with a low overpotential and a small Tafel slope in alkaline solution. The outstanding performance of the CoFe LDH/Co3O4(6:4) nanohybrid was primarily owing to the synergistic effects induced by the strongly coupled interface between CoFe LDH and Co3O4; this feature enhanced the intrinsic OER catalytic activity of the nanohybrid and favored fast charge transfer. Compared with other Co3O4‐based catalysts, the nanohybrid shows advantages and offers a feasible avenue for improving the activity of Co3O4‐based catalysts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CuBi2O4 (CBO) is a promising photocathode for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water reduction, whereas the disadvantages of poor stability and severe charge recombination still hinder its application. In response, we designed a stabilized, efficient CBO/ZnSe/P25 (CBO/ZS/P25) photocathode with the CBO film modified by ZS and P25. As a result, this novel photocathode exhibited an outstanding current density of 0.43 mA/cm2, more than twice that of CBO. Systematic studies reveal that the high performance is attributed to heterojunction formation between ZS and P25, high electron mobility of ZS and hole extraction capacity of CBO. Besides, P25 protective layer can effectively blocks contact with the electrolyte and enhance the stability (retained nearly 90 % of the photocurrent after testing 5000s). The development and design of a highly active and affordable nanostructured material as an efficient electrocatalyst for electrochemical oxygen evolution is a pressing necessity to realize industrial production of hydrogen by water electrolysis. Amorphous nanocomposites have recently attracted interest owing to their superior electrocatalytic activity derived from their unique structure. Herein, amorphous CoFe double hydroxides (Am‐CFDH) decorated with N‐doped carbon nanotubes (NCNTs) is synthesized by a facile and simple one‐pot approach under room temperature. Through electrochemical measurement, the bare Am‐CFDH nanocomposite already exhibits a comparable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity to the commercial IrO2 catalyst on account of its amorphous nature and the interaction between Co and Fe. The introduced NCNTs can provide better electrical conductivity, more anchoring sites, and functional groups for enhancing the transfer of electrons and reactants, preventing the agglomeration of Am‐CFDH to expose more active sites, and improving the synergistic effect between Am‐CFDH and NCNTs. Thus, the Am‐CFDH/NCNTs hybrid displays favorable durability beyond 20 h and advanced OER activity, owning a small overpotential of 270 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and a low Tafel slope of 56.88 mV dec−1 in alkaline medium. Hematite is a prototypical photoanode material that has recently piqued great interest, but fails to deliver the expected performance. The most pronounced disadvantage that plagues the promises held by hematite is its low charge separation efficiency and poor conductivity. In this study, we constructed an efficient hole migration pathway by integrating the co-catalyst (NiOOH) onto the homojunction structured Fe2O3 coating on F-doped α-Fe2O3 nanorods (NiOOH/Fe2O3/F-Fe2O3 NRs). The resulting photoanode exhibited higher photocurrent density (3.4-fold higher than pristine Fe2O3) and lower onset potential (0.61 VRHE) than most reported hematite-based photoanodes. Detailed physical characterization and electrochemical experiments results reveal that the origin of such superior photoelectrochemical water oxidation performance is due to F-doping, built-in field formation and efficient hole extraction. This newly designed photoanode fulfils the requirements of low surface trapping sites, high conductivity, efficient charge separation and injection efficiency. Application of ZnO in the field of photoelectrochemical water splitting is limited because of its wide‐band‐gap and high recombination rate. Herein is reported the design of an efficient ZnO photoanode deposited with CoOx nanoparticles to achieve a heterojunction and oxygen vacancies. The CoOx nanoparticles with abundant oxygen vacancies were anchored onto the nanorod arrays by spin coating and calcination followed by a solvothermal treatment. CoOx nanoparticles serve the dual function of forming a p‐n heterojunction to facilitate the separation of photogenerated carriers, and act as a cocatalyst to decrease water oxidation barrier. Finally, oxygen vacancies increase the number of active redox sites and act as hole traps, enabling their migration to the electrode/electrolyte interface. The composite photoanode exhibits a high incident photon‐to‐current conversion efficiency (76.7 % at 350 nm), which is twice that of pristine ZnO, and a photoconversion efficiency of 0.68 % (0.73 V versus RHE). The current approach can be expanded to fabricate other efficient photocatalysts. This research was designed to investigate the fracture healing pattern in a rheumatoid arthritis (RA) rat model. A mid‐shaft femur fracture (RA + F) model and normal fracture (NF) model as control were established. Micro‐CT, H&E staining, TB staining, SO staining, tartrate‐resistant acid phosphates, and immunohistochemistry test were performed. In the micro‐CT images and H&E stains, fracture gaps were evident in the RA + F group 4 and 8 weeks after fracture. In detail, the bone mineral density, the ratio of bone volume to tissue volume, and trabecular thickness of the RA + F group were significantly lower than those of the NF group at all time points. Trabecular number value was significantly lower in the RA + F group 4 weeks after surgery in comparison with that of the NF group. Furthermore, the structure model index test result of the RA + F group was significantly higher than that of the NF group at all time points. TB staining and SO staining test results showed that the NF group had more cartilaginous callus in the earlier stage of bone healing process (4 weeks), and less cartilage callus formation in the later stage (8 weeks) in comparison with that of the RA + F group. Osteoclasts statistics score in the NF group were obviously lower than that of the RA + F group at all time points. MMP‐3 and OPN protein levels of the fracture area in the RA + F group were significantly higher than those in the NF group. Abstract: Highly efficient and precious metal free catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) are of vital importance for renewable energy technologies. Nevertheless, developing simple methods for the synthesis of highly active and super‐durable electrocatalysts at low cost for HER still remains a major challenge. In this work, high temperature pyrolysis of (NH4)6Mo7O24 ⋅ 4H2O, NaH2PO4 and multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in Ar atmosphere is carried out to obtain phosphorus dually doped MoO2 nanosheets (MoO2 NSs) and MWCNTs hybrids (MoO2Px NSs/P‐MWCNTs), which can serve as excellent electrocatalyst for HER. In 0.5 M H2SO4, the hybrid material catalyzes HER with an onset potential of −27 mV (vs. reversible hydrogen electrode, RHE), Tafel slope of 45 mV dec−1, and an overpotential at 10 mA cm−2 of only 57 mV. Abstract: Bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) has triggered extensive interest in photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting, owing to its narrow band gap and sufficiently positive valence band. However, some defects still exist to block the solar utilization efficiency and hydrogen evolution kinetics. Herein, the NiMoO4 semiconductor is combined with a BiVO4 photoanode, for the first time, and excellent PEC performance is achieved on the basis of heterojunction formation and favorable conductivity of NiMoO4. In addition, it has been demonstrated that NiMoO4 promotes the light absorption ability, charge separation efficiency, and surface charge‐transfer efficiency comprehensively. To further improve the photoconversion efficiency, cobalt phosphate, as an oxygen evolution reaction cocatalyst, is deposited on the above electrode and achieves a much enhanced utilization efficiency of 1.18 %, with a photocurrent density of 5.3 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V versus a reversible hydrogen electrode; this exceeds most results reported to date. The photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting performance of hematite-based photoanodes is still far from their theoretical value due to the ultrafast charge recombination in bulk and on the surface. In response, we developed a regrowth strategy to fabricate a photoanode with metallic Mg-doped α-Fe2O3 coating on nonmetallic P-doped α-Fe2O3 nanorods (Mg-Fe2O3/P-Fe2O3 NRs). This homojunction structure fulfils the requirements of both high charge separation efficiency and favorable band alignment, showing a high photocurrent density (4.7-fold higher than pristine Fe2O3) and low onset potential of 0.68 VRHE. Experimental and density functional theory (DFT) results reveal that the origin of such superior PEC performance is P-doping and Mg-Fe2O3 coating, which efficiently eliminate lattice mismatching, improve the conductivity of hematite, and simultaneously promote the photogenic carriers separation by the built-in electric field. Abstract: The photoelectrochemical (PEC) water‐splitting efficiency of a hematite‐based photoanode is still far from the theoretical value due to its poor surface reaction kinetics and high density of surface trapping states. To solve these drawbacks, a photoanode consisting of NiO nanoparticles anchored on a gradient phosphorus‐doped α‐Fe2O3 nanorod (NR) array (NiO/P‐α‐Fe2O3) was fabricated to achieve optimal light absorption and charge separation, as well as rapid surface reaction kinetics. Specifically, a photoanode with the NR array structure allowed a high mass‐transport rate to be achieved, while phosphorus doping effectively decreased the number of surface trapping sites and improved the electrical conductivity of α‐Fe2O3. Furthermore, the p–n junction that forms between NiO and P‐α‐Fe2O3 can further improve the PEC performance due to efficient hole extraction and the water oxidization catalytic activity of NiO. Consequently, the NiO/P‐α‐Fe2O3 NR photoanode produced a high photocurrent density of 2.08 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V versus a reversible hydrogen electrode and a 110 mV cathodic shift of the onset potential. Searching for highly efficient, stable and non-noble metal electrocatalysts for the hydrogen/oxygen evolution reaction (HER/OER) is crucial to renewable-energy conversion systems. Cobalt phosphosulfide (CoPS) is regarded as a promising electrocatalyst for the HER in acid solution. Nonetheless, there are no studies of its HER and OER activity in basic solution. Herein, we engineer a novel and highly efficient water splitting electrocatalyst of ultrafine CoPS nanoparticles (NPs) encapsulated in N, P, and S tri-doped porous carbon (CoPS@NPS-C) through metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and commercial carbon black (XC-72) as precursors. The abundant and evenly distributed metals of MOFs form ultrafine CoPS NPs, and the rich N organic ligands of MOFs and XC-72 are shaped into the NPS-C to protect CoPS NPs leading to long-term stability in water-splitting applications. Meanwhile, the strong interaction between CoPS and NPS-C in this special structure not only ensures the high activity of the HER in acid solution and the OER in alkaline solution, but also maintains good HER performance in alkaline solution. The high stability of the dual-excited synchronous generator (DESG) can enhance the reliability of power supply for critical users. Based on the traditional synchronous generator (TSG), a DESG with two sets of symmetrical field windings on the rotor is presented in this paper. The rotor slots are spaced equally over the whole rotor surface of DESG, which is different from the structure of TSG. Such structures of DESG are expected to enhance the reliability and give the electromagnetic performances, such as air-gap flux density and electromotive force (emf) that are close to those of TSG. For this purpose the relationship between the excitation magnetomotive forces (mmf) of the single- and dual-axis excited DESG is investigated. The mmf with a different rotor pitch is calculated by the finite-element simulation, and the simulation results agree with those by the theoretical derivation. The excitation air-gap flux density, emf, and the magnetic saturation in stator and rotor cores are calculated under different excitation modes, and the results are compared with those of TSG. In order to validate the simulation results, the emf of 10 kW DESG model machine is measured under different excitation modes. The house sparrow ( Passer domesticus) is well known for conspecific brood parasitism in Europe, and there it is capable of recognizing and rejecting non-mimetic foreign eggs and even mimetic conspecific eggs. Here, we tested the egg rejection of an Asian population of house sparrows by using model eggs, sparrow eggs painted red and sparrow eggs with added brown spots, of which their mimicry to sparrow eggs were quantified by granularity analysis based on avian vision. Surprisingly, house sparrows in Asia did not show any egg rejection. We suggest that the evolutionary equilibrium theory, which was first proposed to explain the absence of egg rejection in some hosts of interspecific brood parasites, may explain the deficiency of egg rejection in house sparrows, as a result of trade-offs between the high rejection costs and the costs of raising conspecific foreign chicks. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic inflammatory disorder that may affect many tissues and organs. Without treatment, inflammation leads to cartilage damage, bone erosions, joint destruction, and impaired movement. Because of the limited success of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, the exploration of new anti-rheumatic drugs with high efficacy and less toxicity is eagerly needed. Genistein, the major active compound from soybean, has received much attention due to its potential beneficial effects on some of the degenerative diseases. It has been found that genistein has anti-inflammatory, antiangiogenesis, antiproliferative, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, pain relief, and joint protection properties. At present, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is considered a type of autoimmune disease. Its pathology is not certain, and effective drugs with less toxicity have not been established. The establishment and application of animal models are effective methods for RA research, especially using animal models similar to humans. Arthritis is more heterogeneous, and this is an important starting point when discussing animal models for arthritis. Animal models are instrumental in understanding the etiology and pathogenetic mechanisms of RA. Appropriate animal models should be selected according to experiments because they have different traits. Various methods have been applied to induce arthritis in animal experimental models, which have provided important insights into the etiopathogenetic mechanisms of human RA. Functional human hepatocytes xenografted into the liver of mice can be used as a model system to study pharmacokinetics, infection of hepatitis viruses, and the efficacy of hepatitis vaccines. Significant levels of liver xeno-repopulation have been reported in Fah Rag2 Il2rg mice. However, the high mortality and low breeding rate of this model may hinder its application. A new model, termed Fah Nod/Scid mice, which combines the advantages of liver repopulation in Fah mice with the ease of xenotransplantation in Nod/Scid mice was obtained by gradual cross-breeding. Fah Nod/Scid mice were easily maintained in breeding colonies and in adult animal care facilities. FK506 treatment combined with gradual withdrawal of NTBC before cell transplantation ensured that Fah Nod/Scid mice were susceptible to liver xeno-repopulation by human hepatocytes; the proportion of engrafted human hepatocytes reached 33.6%. The function of the expanded human hepatocytes within the chimeric liver was confirmed by weight curve analysis, the expression of characteristic proteins, and the biochemical analysis of liver function. In the field of stem cell research, SP (side population) phenotype is used to define the property that cells maintain a high efflux capability for some fluorescent dye, such as Hoechst 33342. Recently, many researches proposed that SP phenotype is a phenotype shared by some stem cells and some progenitor cells, and that SP phenotype is regarded as a candidate purification marker for stem cells. In this research, murine fertilized ova (including conjugate and single nucleus fertilized ova), 2-cell stage and 8-cell stage blastomeres, morulas and blastocysts were isolated and directly stained by Hoechst 33342 dye. The results show that fertilized ovum, blastomere and morula cells do not demonstrate any ability to efflux the dye. However, the inner cell mass (ICM) cells of blastocyst exhibit SP phenotype, which is consistent with the result of embryonic stem cells (ESCs) in vitro. These results indicate that the SP phenotype of ICM-derived ESCs is an intrinsic property and independent of the culture condition in vitro, and that SP phenotype is one of the characteristics of at least some pluripotent stem cells, but is not shared by totipotent stem cells. In addition, the result that the SP phenotype of ICM cells disappeared when the inhibitor verapamil was added into medium implies that the SP phenotype is directly associated with ABCG2. These results suggest that not all the stem cells demonstrate SP phenotype, and that SP phenotype might act as a purification marker for partial stem cells such as some pluripotent embryonic stem cells and multipotent adult stem cells, but not for all stem cells exampled by the totipotent stem cells in the very early stage of mouse embryos. EMS-induced mutant frequency and mutation spectrum as well as background mutant frequency have been characterized fur bone marrow of the D6-2 transgenic mice. The lacI genes carried on pSPORT1 vectors were recovered from the treated or untreated mouse genomic DNA by excision and circularization, and analyzed in vitro for mutations that occurred in the mouse bone marrow, lacI- mutants were positively selected with the M9/L media. The 6 lacI- mutants were identified out of 11 935 vectors recovered from genomic DNA of the treated mice (mutant frequency was 50 × 105), while no mutant was found in 11 649 vectors Imm untreated mice (the background mutant frequency wan lower than 8.6 × 10−5). Two regions of lacI for each mutant, in which the majority of sensitive sites for inactivation of the lacI gene product have been located, were sequenced and 16 mutation events were identified. The predominant mutations (14/16 or 87.5%) were base substitutions, whereas the remaining 2 mutations were single base deletions (12.5%). Of these base substitutions, transversions made up 9/14 or 64%, and transitions cornprised 5/14 or 36%, These findings were markedly different from the spontaneous spectra characterized by using Big-Blue system, as well as from the EMS-induced mutation spectra obtained with in vitro assay systems, where the EMS-induced predominant mutations are CG → AT transitions. In addition, 45% of mutations analyzed occurred at CpG dinucleotides, which was in accordance with previous studies with other systems. These data show that: (i) the D6-2 transgenic mouse lineage is a suitable mdel for studying mutagenesis in vivo; (ii) a fundamental difference in mutagenesis for EMS between in nitro and in vivo assay systems may exist, but more extensive sequence analyses are required to determine the possible differences in mutation spectra. Background: To evaluate the effects of anterior capsular opening size on deviation from predicted refraction and the effective position of the intraocular lens (ELP) in cataract surgery.Methods: Nonrandomized clinical trial. Eighty patients (80 eyes) with simple age-related cataracts were treated from May 2018 to September 2018 at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University. All patients undergoing phacoemulsification received intraocular lens based on the voluntary principle. Forty eyes were implanted with the C-loop haptic intraocular lens (AMO Tecnis ZCB00) while the other 40 eyes were implanted with the plate haptic intraocular lens (CT ASPHINA 509 M). Follow-up visits were conducted postoperatively at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months during which patients underwent refraction and data collection after pupil dilation, which included anterior segment photography and Scheimpflug imaging by Pentacam. The area, horizontal and vertical diameter of the capsulorrhexis, circularity, decentration, and package were analysed using the image analysis software Image-Pro-Plus 6.0,then evaluated the relationship between the different shapes of capsulorrhexis with deviation from predicted refraction and ELP in cataract surgery.Results: Deviation from predicted refraction and all of the parameters of capsulorrhexis were not correlative in the 509 M IOL group, however, in the Tecnis IOL group, while the deviation from predicted refraction and all of the capsulorrhexis parameters were not correlative at 1 week, the deviation from predicted refraction did correlate with capsulorrhexis area, horizontal diameter at 1 month (P = 0.029, P = 0.048), and with capsulorrhexis area, vertical diameter at 3 months (P = 0.03, P = 0.017). The ELP correlated with package in both groups postoperatively (r > 0, P < 0.05), but there is no other capsulorrhexis parameters correlated with ELP in the 509 M IOL group (all P > 0.05). For the Tecnis IOL group, the ELP and capsulorrhexis area were correlated at 1 week and 1 month, while the ELP and horizontal diameter, the ELP and vertical diameter were correlated at 1 week, but did not correlate with the other capsulorrhexis parameters in the Tecnis IOL group (all P > 0.05).Conclusions: The shape of the capsulorrhexis has an effect on postoperative refractive outcomes and the effective position of the intraocular lens in cataract surgery, and plate haptic intraocular lenses have better refractive stability than C-loop haptic intraocular lenses.Trial Registration: ChiCTR1800015638 ,2018-04-12. Communications using the orbital angular momentum (OAM) of radio waves have attracted much attention in recent years. In this paper, a novel millimeter-wave dual OAM mode antenna is cleverly designed, using which a 60 GHz wireless communication link with two separate OAM channels is experimentally demonstrated. The main body of the dual OAM antenna is a traveling-wave ring resonator using two feeding ports fed by a 90° hybrid coupler. A parabolic reflector is used to focus the beams. All the antenna components are fabricated by 3D printing technique and the electro-less copper plating surface treatment process. The performances of the antenna, such as S-parameters, near-fields, directivity, and isolation between the two OAM modes are measured. Experimental results show that this antenna can radiate two coaxially propagating OAM modes beams simultaneously. The multiplexing and de-multiplexing are easily realized in the antennas themselves. The two OAM mode channels have good isolation of more than 20 dB, thus ensuring the reliable transmission links at the same time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL) is essential for osteoclastogenesis. Targeting RANKL signaling pathways has been an encouraging strategy for treating lytic bone diseases such as osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Sinomenine (SIN), derived from Chinese medicinal plant Sinomenioum acutum, is an active compound to treat RA, but its effect on osteoclasts has been hitherto unknown. In the present study, SIN was found to ameliorate M. tuberculosis H37Ra (Mt)-induced bone loss in rats with a decreased serum level of TRACP5b and RANKL, and an increased level of osteoprotegerin (OPG). In vitro study also showed that SIN could inhibit RANKL-induced osteoclast formation and bone resorption. The osteoclastic specific marker genes induced by RANKL including c-Src, MMP-9, TRACP were inhibited by SIN in a dose dependent manner. Signal transduction studies showed that SIN could obviously reduce the expression of RANK adaptor molecule TRAF6 and down-regulate RANKL-induced NF-κB activation. It decreased the RANKL-induced p38, JNK posphorylation but not ERK1/2 posphorylation. SIN could also reduce RANKL-mediated calcium influx which is associated with TRAF6/c-Src complex. Finally, SIN suppressed RANKL induced AP-1 and NFAT transcription, as well as the gene expression of NFATc1 and AP-1 components (Fra-1, Fra-2, c-Fos). The protein expression of c-Fos and TRAF6 were also inhibited by SIN after RANKL stimulation.
