Purpose: The purpose of this article is to assess the relationship between the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) instruments used and the implemented pillars of Industry 4.0 in manufacturing companies in Poland. Design/methodology/approach: Literature review, survey questionnaire research, correlation analysis. Findings: The article describes the correlations between the CSR instruments used and the implemented Pillars of Industry 4.0 in manufacturing companies in Poland, based on the research conducted using a survey questionnaire. Subjecting the results of the questionnaires, to correlation analysis, made it possible to isolate the most strongly correlated pairs of variables, juxtaposing CSR Instruments and Industry 4.0 Pillars. The overall level of correlation is not at a very high level, which may indicate a moderate or differentiated relationship between CSR and Industry 4.0 Pillars. Despite such results, it was possible to observe distinctive pairs of variables that significantly stand out from the others. These include pairs such as Socially Engaged - Incremental Manufacturing, Investment in Ecology - Cybersecurity and Eco-labeling - Big Data. Despite the existing limitations, the area of research presented in the paper can inspire further research to identify the relationship between CSR and Industry 4.0. An information-computer system has been developed for the automated modeling of systems for automatic orientation of production objects, which is one of the most important and complex creative flexible production systems of machine and instrument engineering. The proposed information-computer system for automated modeling of systems of automatic orientation of production objects is an effective tool for solving an important task of a scientific and applied nature. Its use makes it possible to increase the speed and efficiency of information processing and to make correct and well founded decisions when determining the composition and method of organization of systems of automatic orientation of production objects. The structure of this information computer system is a specific set of software and hardware and information and telecommunication tools and interactive functional modules. This structure reproduces a certain paradigm that conditions the integrity and integration of the information-computer system for automated modeling of systems for automatic orientation of production objects in flexible production systems. In addition, uniformity, extensibility, the possibility of modernization and changeability of software components, protection of information from unauthorized access and preservation of commercial secrets are ensured according to international criteria for evaluating the protection of the computer system. Neuro-fuzzy network information processing and computer vision algorithms have been implemented for automatic identification of production objects and orientation devices, which are components of automatic orientation systems of production objects. Chaos Bells is a very large digital musical instrument designed with both artistic and analytical goals in mind: it is a probe into the effect of instrument size on performance, while also being a vehicle for the first author's performance practice. Drawing on entanglement theories of HCI we supplement the findings of lab-based studies with Chaos Bells with new discoveries made by the first author when touring with Chaos Bells. This research elucidates the indirect influences of stakeholders on instrument design culture, and ways that taking a large instrument design approach can benefit designers of instruments of all sizes. Purpose: Information architecture (IA) is often understood as a comprehensive master plan for organizational data assets and is widely considered as an essential component of broader enterprise architecture (EA). However, the status and practical operationalization of IA still remain largely unclear. In order to clarify these questions, this paper investigates what instruments related to IA are actually employed in organizations. Design/methodology/approach: This study builds on the analysis of architecture practices in 27 diverse organizations. Based on the semi-structured interviews with architects and the examination of utilized architectural documents, we explore IA-related instruments with their usage scenarios that have been adopted in the studied organizations. Findings: The authors identify 12 distinct instruments used in the industry and analyze in detail their features, properties and relationships. This paper analysis shows that these instruments are rather diverse and largely inconsistent across different organizations. The study findings also suggest that IA cannot be considered as a comprehensive plan for information, but rather as a variable set of loosely related instruments and practices that help organizations manage information. Originality/value: The study offers a unique perspective on the concept of IA, as it is practiced in the industry today, as well as a critical scrutiny of the respective prescriptions abundant in the existing literature. Although this study does not attempt to theorize on the findings, it makes a significant empirical contribution by offering a solid evidence-based view of IA and its key instruments currently missing in the available literature. Understanding the patterns of demand evolution for a new category is important for firms to effectively manage capacity planning, market and service operations, and research and development. Our objective is to analyze how marketing at the industry level affects the evolution of primary demand in different stages of the product life cycle. We characterize the aggregate marketing activities in two constructs: marketing breadth and competitive spread. The first construct reflects the spread of spending across different marketing instruments at the industry level, and the second construct reflects the spread of spending across different firms. Though both constructs are related to the spread of spending within a category, we find that they have qualitatively different effects on category growth. An econometric model making use of the hierarchical nature of time observations within countries is estimated for each category. First, we find that high degrees of spending breadth impede market growth when the number of competitors is small (the category is young) but accelerate market growth when the number of competitors is higher (the category is maturing). Second, we find that high levels of competitive spread decrease category growth when spending levels are relatively low. However, as spending levels increase, the negative effect of competitive spread on demand growth all but evaporates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Topics include leading expert in electron energy loss spectroscopy and being a highly acclaimed electron microscopist; able to get the funding to continue corrector development and improving the instrument; and manufacturing semiconductor circuits really well requiring electron microscopes for visualizing the nanoscale.

Research on the influence of industry on chemical regulation has mostly been conducted within the framework of the production of ignorance. This special issue extends this research by looking at how industry asserts its interests––not just in the scientific sphere but also at other stages of policy-making and regulatory process––with a specific focus on the types of tools or instruments industry has used. Bringing together sociologists and historians specialized in Science and Technology Studies (STS), the articles of the special issue study the arenas in which instruments and practical guidelines for public policy are negotiated or used. The aim is to observe the devices in the making or in action, from the selection of actors to the production of thresholds, criteria, and other technical regulations. The introduction highlights how industry influence on expertise and regulation is undoubtedly far more pervasive and multifarious than has been conceptualized to date by social scientists. Putting this issue back at the heart of both the STS and social sciences research agendas is increasingly urgent and could lead to new inquiries able to highlight these logics even more widely, using fresh empirical examples. The article presents the results of the research on the level of implementation of Lean instruments in the ceramics industry. The research was carried out in ceramic factories in Poland and Germany. Based on the results obtained, the most commonly used Lean instruments in the ceramics industry were defined. The dependence of the use of Lean instruments on the size of the enterprise was also determined. It was established that the Lean activities undertaken in the ceramics industry are focused solely on the implementation of individual methods and tools, without a pre-defined goal. This approach in the ceramics industry is ineffective, but unfortunately it is most often used in the implementation of the Lean philosophy, especially in small ceramics enterprises. The optimal supplier selection in medical instrument industries could be considered a classical MAGDM issue. The probabilistic uncertain linguistic term sets (PULTSs) could depict uncertain information well and the Taxonomy method is appropriate to compare various alternatives according to their merits and utility degree from studied attributes. In such paper, we develop a Taxonomy method for probabilistic uncertain linguistic MAGDM (PUL-MAGDM) with the completely unknown attribute weights. Above all, the score function's definition is utilized to derive the weights of attribute based upon the CRITIC method. In addition, the probabilistic uncertain linguistic development pattern (PULDP) is improved and the smallest development attribute value from the positive ideal solution under PULTSs is calculated to determine the optimal alternative. In the end, taking the supplier selection in medical instrument industries as an example, we demonstrate the usage of the developed algorithms. Based on this, the comparison of methods is conducted with existing methods, such as PUL-TOPSIS method, the PULWA operator, the PUL-EDAS method and the ULWA operator. The results verify that the decision-making framework is valid and effective for supplier selection. Thus, the advantage of this designed method is that it is simple to understand and easy to compute. This paper investigates the fault detection problem of instruments in process industry. Considering the difficulty of fault identification and the problems of multivariable and large computation complexity based on traditional kernel principal component analysis (KPCA), this paper presents a new method for fault detection and identification, which combines the coupling analysis with kernel principal component for multivariable fault detection and employed the local outlier factor (LOF) for multivariable fault identification. The new method consists of three parts. Firstly, according to nonlinear correlation of multivariable, coupling analysis and module division of variables based on detrended cross-correlation analysis (DCCA) are considered to reduce false alarm rate (FAR) and missed detection rate (MDR) in fault detection and identification. Secondly, KPCA is employed to detect fault in each sub-module of variables. Finally, for the sub-module which has the fault detected in second step, the LOF is adopted to calculate abnormal contribution of each variable in sub-modules to realize fault identification. To prove that the new method has the better capability of processing multivariable fault detection and the more accuracy rate on fault detection and identification than the conventional methods of KPCA, a case study on Tennessee process is carried out at the end.
