To identify potential limitations that may impact the quality and efficiency of end-of-life vehicle (ELV) recycling and to provide solutions for effective management, this study investigates the current ELV recycling practice and the quality assessment systems around it in Malaysia by employing a mixed-methods approach. The approach encompasses qualitative and quantitative research alongside reviewing pertinent literature. The findings reveal that ELV recycling and its accompanying quality assessment systems in Malaysia are restricted and confront many critical challenges. The challenges include the lack of appropriate processes for recycling to maximize the material recovery, and the quality and reliability of the components put into circular economy practice. As a practical solution, a stakeholder-centric framework is proposed that allows better management of ELV waste from transportation and other related sectors. This framework enhances the efficiency and quality of ELV recycling practices in Malaysia and helps assess the quality of components recovered from ELVs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A review of nonlocal theories utilized in the fatigue and fracture modeling of solid structures is addressed in this paper. Numerous papers have been studied for this purpose, and various nonlocal theories such as the nonlocal continuum damage model, stress field intensity model, peridynamics model, elastic-plastic models, energy-based model, nonlocal multiscale model, microstructural sensitive model, nonlocal lattice particle model, nonlocal high cycle fatigue model, low cycle fatigue model, nonlocal and gradient fracture criteria, nonlocal coupled damage plasticity model and nonlocal fracture criterion have been reviewed and summarized in the case of fatigue and fracture of solid structures and materials. In nanotechnology research, nanofluid technology contributes many applications to engineering applications and industry, such as power generation, solar collection, heat exchangers for cooling, and many more. However, there are still a few constraints in terms of heat transfer enhancement, although nanofluid properties show the best heat transfer rate compared with conventional fluids. Thus, this study was conducted for the purpose of investigating the behaviors of flow and heat transfer of hybrid nanofluid with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on a permeable exponentially shrinking surface, as well as investigating the effects of a magnetic field and heat source/sink. This study was conducted by developing a mathematical model, which was the Tiwari–Das model for momentum and energy equations, and then transforming the model's partial differential equations (PDEs) to ordinary differential equations (ODEs) using a similarity solution. Next, these equations were solved numerically using the MATLAB bvp4c boundary value problem solver. The authors particularly explored these behaviors with a few variations. Based on the results obtained, it was found that dual solutions exist in a specific range of the shrinking case, λ c < λ < − λ and that the critical point λ c also exists in a range of −1.5 < λ c   < −1 with different parameters. For the heat source/sink effect, the Nusselt number was higher when heat sink case ε < 0, whereas it decreased when the heat source case ε > 0. Therefore, this study deduced that the heat transfer rate of hybrid nanofluid (CNTs/Cu–water) is better than regular nanofluid (CNT–water) and conventional fluid (water). The present study took into consideration the problem of MHD flow and heat transfer analysis of a hybrid nanofluid towards an exponentially shrinking surface with the presence of heat source/sink and thermal radiation effects. The authors show that dual solutions exist within a specific range of values due to the shrinking case. The current work is predicted to have numerous benefits in equivalent real-world systems. In this study, the Tiwari and Das model is numerically studied, in case of a moving plate containing both single-walled and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs and MWCNTs, respectively), in the presence of thermal radiation and the slip effect. Employing the similarity transformation, a set of 2nd-order partial differential equations (which are used to model the flow and heat transfer) are solved numerically using the boundary value problem with 4th-order accuracy (BVP4C) method. The effects of related parameters, such as the volume fraction of nanoparticles, moving, slip, and radiation parameter on the heat transfer performance are analysed and discussed. Results indicate that a unique solution was placed when the plate travels in assisting flow conditions. Additionally, as the nanoparticle volume fraction (φ) rises at φ = 0.2, the skin friction and heat transfer rate decrease. It is also observed that when the slip parameter (β) increases at β = 0.4, the skin friction decreases, whereas the heat transfer rate increases. Meanwhile, the heat transfer rate decreases when the thermal radiation (NR) increases to 0.7. Moreover, it is found that the SWCNTs are more efficient when the skin friction coefficient and the Nusselt number are considered. Purpose: Extrapolation is a process used to accelerate the convergence of a sequence of approximations to the true value. Different stepsizes are used to obtain approximate solutions, which are combined to increase the order of the approximation by eliminating leading error terms. The smoothing technique is also applied to suppress order reduction and to dampen the oscillatory component in the numerical solution when solving stiff problems. The extrapolation and smoothing technique can be applied in either active, passive or the combination of both active and passive modes. In this paper, the authors investigate the best strategy of implementing extrapolation and smoothing technique and use this strategy to solve stiff ordinary differential equations. Based on the experiment, the authors suggest using passive smoothing in order to reduce the computation time. Design/methodology/approach: The two-step smoothing is a composition of four steps of the symmetric method with different weights. It is used as the final two steps when combined with many steps of the symmetric method. The aim is to preserve symmetry and provide damping for stiff problem and to be more robust than the one-step smoothing. The two-step smoothing is L-stable. The new method is then applied with extrapolation process in passive and active modes to investigate the most efficient and accurate method of implementation. Findings: In this paper, the authors constructed the two-step smoothing to be more robust than the one-step smoothing. The two-step smoothing is constructed to achieve as high order as possible and able to restore the classical order of particular method compared to the one-step active smoothing that is only able to achieve order-1 condition. The two-step smoothing for ITR is also superior in solving stiff case since it has the super-convergent order-4 behavior. In our experiments with extrapolation, it is proven that the two-step smoothing is more accurate and more efficient than the one-step smoothing, namely 1ASAX. It is also observed that the method with smoothing is comparable if not superior to the existing base method in certain cases. Based on the experiment, the authors would suggest using passive smoothing if the aim is to reduce computation time. It is of interest to conduct more experiment to validate the accuracy and efficiency of the smoothing formula with and without extrapolation. Originality/value: The implementation of extrapolation on two-step symmetric Runge–Kutta method has not been tested on variety of other test problems yet. The two-step symmetrization is an extension of the one-step symmetrization and has not been constructed by other researchers yet. The method is constructed such that it preserves the asymptotic error expansion in even powers of stepsize, and when used with extrapolation the order might increase by 2 at a time. The method is also L-stable and eliminates the order reduction phenomenon when solving stiff ODEs. This study is to investigate the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stagnation point flow and heat transfer characteristic nanofluid of carbon nanotube (CNTs) over the shrinking surface with heat sink effects. Similarity equations deduced from momentum and energy equation of partial differential equations are solved numerically. This study looks at the different parameters of the flow and heat transfer using first phase model which is Tiwari-Das. The parameter discussed were volume fraction nanoparticle, magnetic parameter, heat sink/source parameters, and a different type of nanofluid and based fluids. Present results revealed that the rate of nanofluid (SWCNT/kerosene) in terms of flow and heat transfer is better than (MWCNT/kerosene) and (CNT/water) and regular fluid (water). Graphically, the variation results of dual solution exist for shrinking parameter in range λ c < λ ≤ − 1 for different values of volume fraction nanoparticle, magnetic, heat sink parameters, and a different type of nanofluid. However, a unique solution exists at − 1 < λ < 1 , and no solutions exist at λ < λ c which is a critical value. In addition, the local Nusselt number decreases with increasing volume fraction nanoparticle when there exists a heat sink effect. The values of the skin friction coefficient and local Nusselt number increase for both solutions with the increase in magnetic parameter. In this study, the investigation on the flow and heat transfer of MHD stagnation point nanofluid through a shrinking surface with heat sink effect shows how important the application to industrial applications. The sustainable development of the energy sector through the implementation of renewable energy (RE) technology has been a primary concern for the government of Malaysia since the 1990s. Developing RE technology in rural areas is also one of the most important energy strategies. One of the most important requirements for the successful adoption of renewable energy technology is the public acceptance of this technology. This article examines the public acceptance of RE (wind and solar) technologies among rural residents in Mersing, Malaysia. This study is conducted in conjunction with the development of the hybrid wind–solar RE generation system for the Marine Ecosystem Research Centre (EKOMAR), which located in Mersing. To investigate the public acceptance of RE technologies, two surveys were conducted, before and after the installation of the hybrid wind–solar RE generation system. The findings revealed that RE innovations, such as wind and solar energy, were well known among 54.7% and 96.2% of the respondents, respectively, before and after the introduction of EKOMAR. The survey results showed that rural residents generally support RE technologies and EKOMAR RE projects. They were also in line that the use of RE should also be extended to other parts of Mersing, including wind and solar. These findings illustrate that EKOMAR has played a crucial role in educating local residents about RE, wind and solar energy in particular. Residents believe the government plays an important role, particularly in rural areas, in encouraging and enhancing RE technologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, the heat and mass transfer characteristics of nanofluid flow over a nonlinearly stretching sheet are investigated. The important effects of axisymmetric of thermal conductivity and viscous dissipation have been included in the model of nanofluids. The Buongiorno model is considered to solve the nanofluid boundary layer problem. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations have been transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations and are solved numerically via the shooting technique. The validity of this method was verified by comparison with previous work performed for nanofluids without the effects of the magnetic field and viscous dissipation. The analytical investigation is carried out for different governing parameters, namely, the Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter, magnetic parameter, Biot number, and Eckert number. The results indicate that the skin friction coefficient has a direct relationship with the Brownian motion number and thermophoresis number. Moreover, it can be seen that the Nusselt number decreases with the increase of the magnetic parameter and Eckert number. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
