Abstract

The authors discuss the use of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and related genomic technologies to understand the efficacy or toxicity of a drug. An overview of the genetic variations of the human genome is provided, including sequence substitutions, structural variations and short insertion/deletions. The authors point out the susceptibility of GWAS to false-positive findings due to the numerous genetic variants tested.
