Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle biopsy is an effective method for obtaining tissue samples from various organs; however, challenges such as inadequate specimens persist. This study compared a newly designed Tricore needle with a Franseen needle for endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle biopsy of porcine liver. Both needles were tested on four male Yorkshire pigs. Specimens were obtained with an 100% (36/36) success rate with no procedure-related adverse effects. The Tricore needle experienced significantly less resistance during puncture than Franseen needle (3.83 vs. 5.97 N, P < 0.001) and better ultrasound visibility (168.97 vs. 125.04, P = 0.004). The Tricore needle also achieved faster specimen acquisition time (48.94 vs. 59.90 s, P = 0.038), larger total specimen area (6.67 vs. 4.68 mm2, P = 0.049), fewer fragments (23.94 vs. 31.94, P = 0.190), lager fragment area (0.28 vs. 0.15 mm2, P < 0.001), and more the number of complete portal tracts (15.44 vs. 9.33, P = 0.017) compared to the Franseen needle. The newly designed Tricore needle showed enhanced procedural performance and specimen quantity and quality compared to commercially available Franseen needle. Introduction: Kava, a substance derived from the Piper methysticum plant, is enjoying a surge in popularity in the United States due to its purported anxiolytic and analgesic effects. Though ichthyosiform dermopathy is a known adverse effect associated with chronic kava exposure in adults, dermopathy in a newborn due to maternal kava use has not yet been described. Case Report: This is a case of a 41-year-old woman who was taking a combination kava/kratom product throughout her pregnancy. She developed an ichthyosiform dermopathy that resolved after she stopped using the product postpartum. Her male infant had a neonatal course complicated by both neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, attributed to maternal kratom and buprenorphine use, as well as a diffuse ichthyosiform rash similar to descriptions of kava ichthyosiform dermopathy in adults. His neonatal course was complicated by Group B streptococcus and Serratia marscecens bacteremia (treated with antibiotics) and seizures (treated with lorazepam and phenobarbital). His rash resolved completely by day of life 22. At 9-month outpatient follow-up, he had no dermatologic abnormalities or rash recurrence. Discussion: Maternal kava use during pregnancy may cause fetal dermopathy presenting as an acquired ichthyosis. Peptide-based therapeutics have traditionally faced challenges, including instability in the bloodstream and limited cell membrane permeability. However, recent advancements in α-helix stapled peptide modification techniques have rekindled interest in their efficacy. Notably, these developments ensure a highly effective method for improving peptide stability and enhancing cell membrane penetration. Particularly in the realm of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), the application of stapled peptide techniques has significantly increased peptide stability and has been successfully applied to many peptides. Furthermore, constraining the secondary structure of peptides has also been proven to enhance their biological activity. In this review, the entire process through which hydrocarbon-stapled antimicrobial peptides attain improved drug-like properties is examined. First, the essential secondary structural elements required for their activity as drugs are validated, specific residues are identified using alanine scanning, and stapling techniques are strategically incorporated at precise locations. ACI 318-19 and ASCE 7-22 specify code-compliant and emulative seismic force-resisting systems (SFRS) including intermediate precast shear wall systems. For the seismic design of a precast shear wall system, its successful performance heavily depends on the capacity design of inevitable discrete connections between precast wall panels, thus playing a critical role in controlling yielding to occur within steel reinforcements at the vicinity of intended locations or components. This is imperative for achieving not only ductility but also adequate energy dissipation, ensuring the system can effectively withstand seismic forces. To this end, the overstrength is essentially required to prevent any brittle failure, and the connections designed not to yield can be protected by addressing the 1.5Sy condition as specified in ACI 318-19 and ASCE 7-22. However, there can be a blind spot for the precast connections designed to yield. To this end, this study showed some cases based on practical examples from which a reasonable magnitude of overstrength (Sy) was tentatively recommended for better safety in the seismic design of the intermediate precast shear wall system with precast connections designed to be yielded. Mangifera indica L., a member of the Anacardiaceae family, is widely cultivated across the globe. The leaves of M. indica are renowned for their medicinal properties, attributed to the abundance of bioactive compounds. This study investigated the effects of mango leaf extract on oxidative stress in HeLa cells. Notably, the n-hexane fraction (MLHx) significantly enhanced antioxidant response element (ARE)-luciferase activity at a concentration of 100 µg/mL, surpassing other fractions. MLHx also promoted the expression of HO-1 mRNA by increasing nuclear NRF2 levels. The molecular mechanism of MLHx involves increased phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and stabilization of NRF2. Bioactivity-guided isolation resulted in the identification of six oxylipins: 13(R)-hydroxy-octadeca-(9Z,11E,15Z)-trienoic acid (C-1), 9(R)-hydroxy-octadeca-(10E,12Z,15Z)-trienoic acid (C-2), 13(R)-hydroxy-(9Z,11E)-octadecadienoic acid (C-3), 9(R)-hydroxy-(10E,12Z)-octadecadienoic acid (C-4), 9-oxo-(10E,12E)-octadecadienoic acid (C-5), and 9-oxo-(10E,12Z)-octadecadienoic acid (C-6). These structures were elucidated using comprehensive spectroscopic techniques, including MS and 1H NMR. Additionally, compounds C-7 (9-oxo-(10E,12Z,15Z)-octadecatrienoic acid) and 8 (13-oxo-(9E,11E)-octadecadienoic acid) were characterized by LC-MS/MS mass fragmentation. This study reports the isolation of compounds 1–6 from M. indica for the first time. This study investigates the operational characteristics of AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMTs) by employing various passivation materials with different dielectric constants and passivation structures. To ensure the simulation reliability, the parameters were calibrated based on the measured data from the fabricated basic Si3N4 passivation structure of the HEMT. The Si3N4 passivation material was replaced with high-k materials, such as Al2O3 and HfO2, to improve the breakdown voltage. The Al2O3 and HfO2 passivation structures achieved breakdown voltage improvements of 6.62% and 17.45%, respectively, compared to the basic Si3N4 passivation structure. However, the increased parasitic capacitances reduced the cut-off frequency. To mitigate this reduction, the operational characteristics of hybrid and partial passivation structures were analyzed. Compared with the HfO2 passivation structure, the HfO2 partial passivation structure exhibited a 7.6% reduction in breakdown voltage but a substantial 82.76% increase in cut-off frequency. In addition, the HfO2 partial passivation structure exhibited the highest Johnson's figure of merit. Consequently, considering the trade-off relationship between breakdown voltage and frequency characteristics, the HfO2 partial passivation structure emerged as a promising candidate for high-power and high-frequency AlGaN/GaN HEMT applications. Light quality can be stated to be the identity of an artificial light source, and although the response of light quality may vary depending on the crop, the effect is clearly visible and can produce various results depending on the combination of an artificial light source. This study investigated the spectral reflectance, photosynthetic performance, and chlorophyll fluorescence of mini green romaine lettuce based on light quality. Most parameters related to spectral reflectance showed the best results under blue light, and photosynthetic performance was more effective with mixed light than with single-colored light, among which blue + red (BR)-LED was the most suitable. Red light was ineffective, showing mostly low results in parameters of spectral reflectance and photosynthetic performance. In the case of chlorophyll fluorescence, the light quality influenced photomorphogenesis, resulting in increased leaf length and width with R- and quantum dot (QD)-LED, which expanded the leaf area and allowed for more external light to be captured (ABS/RC and TRo/RC). However, the ratio of electronized energy (ETo/RC) was low, and the amount of energy dissipated as heat (DIo/RC) was high. Consequently, the degree of electron acceptor reduction and overall photosynthetic performance (PIABS and PItotal) were lower compared to other light qualities. Additionally, the contrasting results of QD-LED and BR-LED were attributed to the form of red light and the presence or absence of far-red light when comparing spectra. Principal component analysis also clearly distinguished light qualities for photosynthesis and growth. As environmental regulations on exhaust gas are enforced worldwide and marine transportation is progressively strengthened, various methods are being explored to comply with emission regulations by using alternative energy sources. This study involved the optimization of a thermoelectric power generation (TEG) system, which converts thermal energy into electrical energy. The design of the TEG system was optimized by using CFD to analyze the heat transfer phenomena resulting from the relative positions of the TEG modules, and the results of this analysis were validated with 1/100 experimental scale measurement data. The comparison of the CFD results with the experimental measurements revealed that the maximum discrepancy exists for the temperature near the cooling jacket and for the amount of power generated by the system. The significant difference between the CFD and experimental results is attributable to the adiabatic conditions assumed for CFD since the experimental facility experiences heat loss to the atmosphere. In this study, we established an analysis methodology by conducting a comparative validation between CFD calculations and experimental data. Iron is crucial for the metabolism and growth of most prokaryotic cells. The ferric uptake regulator (Fur) protein plays a central role in regulating iron homeostasis and metabolic processes in bacteria. It ensures the proper utilization of iron and the maintenance of cellular functions in response to environmental cues. Fur proteins are composed of an N-terminal DNA-binding domain (DBD) and a C-terminal dimerization domain (DD), typically existing as dimers in solution. Fur proteins have conserved metal-binding sites named S1, S2, and S3. Among them, site S2 serves as a regulatory site, and metal binding at S2 results in conformational changes. Additionally, as a transcriptional regulator, Fur specifically binds to a consensus DNA sequence called the Fur box. To elucidate the structural and functional properties of Fur proteins, various structures of metal- or DNA-bound Fur proteins or apo-Fur proteins have been determined. In this review, we focus on the structural properties of Fur proteins according to their ligand-bound state and the drug development strategies targeting Fur proteins. The current study longitudinally investigated the relationships between Korean tertiary-level students' English names adopted and used at their teacher's request, and native speakerism, identity, and emotions. Thirteen graduate students enrolled in an English-medium course and their Korean teacher participated in the study. The research instruments included classroom observations, reflective journal writing, and in-depth, semi-structured interviews. The results indicated that the English names bore, in complicated and changing ways, on the identities and emotions of the students and teacher. Background: Chemotherapy-related cardiotoxicity is a significant concern because it is a major cause of morbidity. This study aimed to provide in-depth information on the symptoms of chemotherapy-related cardiotoxicity (CRCT) by exploring literature that concurrently reports the types and symptoms of CRCT in patients with breast cancer. Methods: A scoping review was performed according to an a priori protocol using the Joanna Briggs Institute's guidelines. The participants were patients with breast cancer. The concept was the literature of specifically reported symptoms directly matched with CRCT and the literature, in English, from 2010, and the context was open. The search strategy included four keywords: "breast cancer," "chemotherapy," "cardiotoxicity," and "symptoms." All types of research designs were included; however, studies involving patients with other cancer types, animal subjects, and symptoms not directly related to CRCT were excluded. Data were extracted and presented including tables and figures. Results: A total of 29 articles were included in the study, consisting of 23 case reports, 4 retrospective studies, and 2 prospective studies. There were no restrictions on the participants' sex; however, all of them were women, except for one case report. The most used chemotherapy regimens were trastuzumab, capecitabine, and doxorubicin or epirubicin. The primary CRCT identified were myocardial dysfunction and heart failure, followed by coronary artery disease, pulmonary hypertension, and other conditions. Major tests used to diagnose CRCT include echocardiography, electrocardiography, serum cardiac enzymes, coronary angiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. In all case reports, CRCT was diagnosed through an incidental checkup according to the patient's symptom presentation; however, only 10 of these studies showed a baseline checkup before chemotherapy. The five most common CRCT symptoms were dyspnea, chest pain, peripheral edema, fatigue, and palpitations, which were assessed by patient-reported symptom presentation rather than using a symptom assessment tool. Dyspnea with trastuzumab treatment and chest pain with capecitabine treatment were particularly characteristic. The time for first symptom onset after chemotherapy ranged from 1 hour to 300 days, with anthracycline-based regimens requiring 3–55 days, trastuzumab requiring 60–300 days, and capecitabine requiring 1–7 days. Conclusions: This scoping review allowed data mapping according to the study design and chemotherapy regimens. Cardiac assessments for CRCT diagnosis were performed according to the patient's symptoms. There were approximately five types of typical CRCT symptoms, and the timing of symptom occurrence varied. Therefore, developing and applying a CRCT-specific and user-friendly symptom assessment tool are expected to help healthcare providers and patients manage CRCT symptoms effectively. Clinical outcome after traumatic brain injury (TBI) is closely associated conditions of other organs, especially lungs as well as degree of brain injury. Even if there is no direct lung damage, severe brain injury can enhance sympathetic tones on blood vessels and vascular resistance, resulting in neurogenic pulmonary edema. Conversely, lung damage can worsen brain damage by dysregulating immunity. These findings suggest the importance of brain-lung axis interactions in TBI. However, little research has been conducted on the topic. An advanced disease model using stem cell technology may be an alternative for investigating the brain and lungs simultaneously but separately, as they can be potential candidates for improving the clinical outcomes of TBI. In this review, we describe the importance of brain-lung axis interactions in TBI by focusing on the concepts and reproducibility of brain and lung organoids in vitro. We also summarize recent research using pluripotent stem cell-derived brain organoids and their preclinical applications in various brain disease conditions and explore how they mimic the brain-lung axis. Reviewing the current status and discussing the limitations and potential perspectives in organoid research may offer a better understanding of pathophysiological interactions between the brain and lung after TBI. To evaluate the safety and efficacy of combining EW-7197 with irreversible electroporation (IRE) for improving wound healing, 16 male Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups of four rats each after dorsal excisional wound induction: sham control group; oral administration of EW-7197 for 7 days group; one-time application of IRE group; and one-time application of IRE followed by oral administration of EW-7197 for 7 days group. Measurement of wound closure rate, laser Doppler scanning, histological staining (hematoxylin and eosin and Masson's trichrome), and immunohistochemical analyses (Ki-67 and α-SMA) were performed to evaluate the efficacy. Fifteen of 16 rats survived throughout the study. Statistically significant differences in wound closure rates were observed between the combination therapy group and the other three groups (all P < 0.05). The degrees of inflammation, α-SMA, and Ki-67 were reduced in the EW-7197 and IRE monotherapy groups; however, not statistically significant. The fibrosis score exhibited significant reduction in all three treatment groups, with the most prominent being in the combination therapy group. This study concludes that oral administration of EW-7197 combined with IRE demonstrated effectiveness in improving skin wound in a rat excisional model and may serve as a potential alternative for promoting healing outcomes. SARS-CoV-2 Omicron has the largest number of mutations among all the known SARS-CoV-2 variants. The presence of these mutations might explain why Omicron is more infectious and vaccines have lower efficacy to Omicron than other variants, despite lower virulence of Omicron. We recently established a long-term in vivo replication model by infecting Calu-3 xenograft tumors in immunodeficient mice with parental SARS-CoV-2 and found that various mutations occurred majorly in the spike protein during extended replication. To investigate whether there are differences in the spectrum and frequency of mutations between parental SARS-CoV-2 and Omicron, we here applied this model to Omicron. At 30 days after infection, we found that the virus was present at high titers in the tumor tissues and had developed several rare sporadic mutations, mainly in ORF1ab with additional minor spike protein mutations. Many of the mutant isolates had higher replicative activity in Calu-3 cells compared with the original SARS-CoV-2 Omicron virus, suggesting that the novel mutations contributed to increased viral replication. Serial propagation of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron in cultured Calu-3 cells resulted in several rare sporadic mutations in various viral proteins with no mutations in the spike protein. Therefore, the genome of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron seems largely stable compared with that of the parental SARS-CoV-2 during extended replication in Calu-3 cells and xenograft model. The sporadic mutations and modified growth properties observed in Omicron might explain the emergence of Omicron sublineages. A study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a topical emollient in treating mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis (AD) in adolescents and adults. The study involved 100 participants and lasted for 24 weeks. The results showed that the group using the emollient had significant improvements in various measures compared to the placebo group. No safety concerns were reported. However, the study had limitations and further research is needed to explore other aspects of AD and the effects of the emollient. Aims Doxorubicin (DOX) is a widely used anthracycline anticancer agent; however, its irreversible effects on the heart can result in DOX-induced cardiotoxicity (DICT) after cancer treatment. Unfortunately, the pathophysiology of DICT has not yet been fully elucidated, and there are no effective strategies for its prevention or treatment. In this investigation, the novel role of transducin beta-like protein 1 (TBL1) in developing and regulating DICT was explored. Methods and results We observed a reduction in TBL1 protein expression levels as well as cleavage events in the transplanted cardiac tissues of patients diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and DICT. It was revealed that DOX selectively induces TBL1 cleavage at caspase-3 preferred sites—D125, D136, and D215. Interestingly, overexpression of the uncleaved TBL1 mutant (TBL1uclv) variant reduced apoptosis, effectively preventing DOX-induced cell death. We confirmed that cleaved TBL1 cannot form a complex with β-catenin. As a result, Wnt reporter activity and Wnt target gene expression collectively indicate a decrease in Wnt/β-catenin signalling, leading to DICT progression. Furthermore, the cleaved TBL1 triggered DOX-induced abnormal electrophysiological features and disrupted calcium homeostasis. However, these effects were improved in TBL1uclv-overexpressing human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes. Finally, in a DICT mouse model, TBL1uclv overexpression inhibited the DICT-induced reduction of cardiac contractility and collagen accumulation, ultimately protecting cardiomyocytes from cell death. Conclusion Our findings reveal that the inhibition of TBL1 cleavage not only mitigates apoptosis but also enhances cardiomyocyte function, even in the context of DOX administration. Stomata are specialized pores that play a vital role in gas exchange and photosynthesis. Microscopic images are often used to assess stomatal characteristics in plants; however, this can be a challenging task. By utilizing Matterport's Mask R-CNN implementation as the foundational model, fine-tuning was conducted on a dataset of 810 microscopic images of Hedyotis corymbosa leaves' surfaces for automated stomatal pores detection. The outcomes were promising, with the model achieving a convergence of 98% mean average precision (mAP) for both detection and segmentation. The training loss and validation loss values converged around 0.18 and 0.37, respectively. Regression analyses demonstrated the statistical significance (p values ≤ 0.05) of predictor parameters. Notably, the tightest cluster of data points was observed in stomata pore area measurements, followed by width and length. This highlights the precision of the stomatal pore area in characterizing stomatal traits. Despite challenges posed by the original dataset's low-resolution images and artifacts like dust, bubbles, and blurriness, our innovative utilization of the Mask R-CNN algorithm yielded commendable outcomes. Klebsiella pneumoniae causes severe human diseases, but its resistance to current antibiotics is increasing. Therefore, new antibiotics to eradicate K. pneumoniae are urgently needed. Bacterial toxin–antitoxin (TA) systems are strongly correlated with physiological processes in pathogenic bacteria, such as growth arrest, survival, and apoptosis. By using structural information, we could design the peptides and small-molecule compounds that can disrupt the binding between K. pneumoniae MazE and MazF, which release free MazF toxin. Because the MazEF system is closely implicated in programmed cell death, artificial activation of MazF can promote cell death of K. pneumoniae. The effectiveness of a discovered small-molecule compound in bacterial cell killing was confirmed through flow cytometry analysis. Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a non-thermal ablation technique for local tumor treatment known to be influenced by pulse duration and voltage settings, affecting its efficacy. This study aims to investigate the effects of bipolar IRE with different pulse durations in a prostate cancer mouse model. The therapeutic effectiveness was assessed with in vitro cell experiments, in vivo tumor volume changes with magnetic resonance imaging, and gross and histological analysis in a mouse model. The tumor volume continuously decreased over time in all IRE-treated groups. The tumor volume changes, necroptosis (%), necrosis (%), the degree of TUNEL-positive cell expression, and ROS1-positive cell (%) in the long pulse duration-treated groups (300 μs) were significantly increased compared to the short pulse duration-treated groups (100 μs) (all p < 0.001). Traditional ZnO hydrothermal synthesis for producing nanostructured colors requires a ZnO seed layer and a reflective layer, which, in turn, requires high-temperature heat treatment. This requirement limits the choice of substrates to only those with a high heat resistance. Our study presents a simplified fabrication procedure to address the limitations of existing structured color fabrication methods and leverage the benefits of low-temperature solution processes. By depositing a Au layer on the substrate to function as a catalyst and reflective layer, we eliminated the need for seed and reflective layer fabrication and the associated heat treatment processes. The method employs hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) hydrolysis to induce a chemical reaction with zinc nitrate hexahydrate and ammonia, thereby facilitating the formation of ZnO in a vertical structure and the production of structured color. We observed that the diameter and thickness of ZnO nanorods increased from 185 to 280 nm and from 60 to 210 nm, respectively, in proportion to the growth time, and we observed that the structural color changes with the variation of ZnO nanorods, which can express different colors. This method can be applied to polymer substrates as well as silicon wafers, providing an approach that minimizes the restrictions on substrate selection. It also has the advantage of being able to selectively generate structural color by controlling the growth time. Background: Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), including Mycobacterium intracellulare is a member of slow-growing mycobacteria and contributes to a substantial proportion of nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease in humans affecting immunocompromised and elderly populations. Adaptation of pathogens in hostile environments is crucial in establishing infection and persistence within the host. However, the sophisticated cellular and molecular mechanisms of stress response in M. intracellulare still need to be fully explored. We aimed to elucidate the transcriptional response of M. intracellulare under acidic and oxidative stress conditions. Results: At the transcriptome level, 80 genes were shown [FC] ≥ 2.0 and p < 0.05 under oxidative stress with 10 mM hydrogen peroxide. Specifically, 77 genes were upregulated, while 3 genes were downregulated. In functional analysis, oxidative stress conditions activate DNA replication, nucleotide excision repair, mismatch repair, homologous recombination, and tuberculosis pathways. Additionally, our results demonstrate that DNA replication and repair system genes, such as dnaB, dinG, urvB, uvrD2, and recA, are indispensable for resistance to oxidative stress. On the contrary, 878 genes were shown [FC] ≥ 2.0 and p < 0.05 under acidic stress with pH 4.5. Among these genes, 339 were upregulated, while 539 were downregulated. Functional analysis highlighted nitrogen and sulfur metabolism pathways as the primary responses to acidic stress. Our findings provide evidence of the critical role played by nitrogen and sulfur metabolism genes in the response to acidic stress, including narGHIJ, nirBD, narU, narK3, cysND, cysC, cysH, ferredoxin 1 and 2, and formate dehydrogenase. Conclusion: Our results suggest the activation of several pathways potentially critical for the survival of M. intracellulare under a hostile microenvironment within the host. Marine biofouling–the adhesion of marine organisms onto a ship hull–causes increased fuel consumption, leading to massive carbon dioxide emissions. Many attempts are made to address this issue, and antifouling polymer coatings are extensively investigated owing to their environmental friendliness. Zwitterionic polymers, polysaccharides, and polyethylene glycol are frequently used as surface coatings, demonstrating excellent marine antifouling performance. However, these hydrophilic polymer coatings have a major drawback: when exposed to sediment, various minerals are easily adsorbed by the coatings, causing them to lose their inherent antifouling properties. Amphiphilic polymer coatings have therefore been proposed as alternatives to hydrophilic polymer coatings. In this study, the synthesis of amphiphilic copolymers composed of carboxybetaine methacrylamide and trifluoroethyl methacrylate and the immobilization of these copolymers onto solid surfaces are reported. This method utilizes material‐independent surface‐coating properties and the metal complex‐forming ability of polydopamine to immobilize amphiphilic copolymers onto solid surfaces. The resulting surfaces exhibit good antifouling performance against both diatom adhesion and silt adsorption. As this is a facile and substrate‐independent method for immobilizing polymers, an expectation exists for it to be an effective platform for the coating of new marine antifouling polymers. Although the esophageal stethoscope is used for continuous auscultation during general anesthesia, few studies have investigated phonocardiographic data as a continuous hemodynamic index. In this study, we aimed to induce hemodynamic variations and clarify the relationship between the heart sounds and hemodynamic variables through an experimental animal study. Changes in the cardiac contractility and vascular resistance were induced in anesthetized pigs by administering dobutamine, esmolol, phenylephrine, and nicardipine. In addition, a decrease in cardiac output was induced by restricting the venous return by clamping the inferior vena cava (IVC). The relationship between the hemodynamic changes and changes in the heart sound indices was analyzed. Experimental data from eight pigs were analyzed. The mean values of the correlation coefficients of changes in S1 amplitude (ΔS1amp) with systolic blood pressure (ΔSBP), pulse pressure (ΔPP), and ΔdP/dt during dobutamine administration were 0.94, 0.96, and 0.96, respectively. The mean values of the correlation coefficients of ΔS1amp with ΔSBP, ΔPP, and ΔdP/dt during esmolol administration were 0.80, 0.82, and 0.86, respectively. The hemodynamic changes caused by the administration of phenylephrine and nicardipine did not correlate significantly with changes in the heart rate. The S1 amplitude of the heart sound was significantly correlated with the hemodynamic changes caused by the changes in cardiac contractility but not with the variations in the vascular resistance. Polysaccharide coatings are of interest for marine antifouling applications because of their good marine antifouling properties and environmentally benign characteristics. However, the hydrophilic nature of polysaccharide coatings can lead to the adsorption of marine sediment, which can negatively impact their antifouling properties. Amphiphilic modification of polysaccharide coatings has been demonstrated to address these issues. In this study, we report a simple method for post‐modification of a sulfated polysaccharide carrageenan (CAR) coating to make it amphiphilic. A hydrophilic CAR coating is first formed on solid substrates, followed by grafting hydrophobic molecules onto the CAR‐coated surfaces through metal‐ion‐mediated coordinate bond formation. The resulting amphiphilic CAR coating effectively reduces both marine sediment (silt) adsorption and marine diatom adhesion, achieving a balanced marine antifouling performance. Despite the perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted attention due to their high efficiency and lower cost compared to Si solar cells, many issues remain to be addressed for the commercialization. While the perovskite light absorbing materials is relatively inexpensive, the charge transport layers such as the hole transport layer (HTL) or electron transport layer (ETL) are usually composed of expensive organic compounds. In that sense, PSCs without the charge transport layers are developed, showing very low performance due to low charge collection efficiency. In this study, we investigate the origin of low efficiency for ETL or HTL-free PSCs, and further identify the suitable front contact (either indium tin oxide (ITO) or fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO)) for each PSC by using numerical simulation and experimental validation. Plants have developed adaptive mechanisms to withstand mechanical stress, which can hinder their growth and productivity. Anthocyanins, water-soluble pigments found in plants, have been shown to confer tolerance to abiotic stresses in various plant species, including tomato plants (Solanum lycopersicum L.). Although the biosynthesis and regulatory factors of anthocyanins have been well-characterized in tomato plants, it remains unclear whether mechanical stress influences the expression of these genes. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of rubbing-induced mechanical stress on the activation of genes involved in anthocyanin regulation and subsequent anthocyanin accumulation in tomato plants. Our results showed that rubbing treatment triggered morphological changes such as reduced plant height and altered stem and leaf color because of anthocyanin accumulation in different tomato varieties. Transcriptional analysis revealed significant upregulation of anthocyanin regulatory and biosynthetic genes in the rubbed stems when compared with the control stems. Furthermore, a negative regulator of anthocyanin, SlMYBL2, was down-regulated in the rubbed stems. However, no significant differences in the expression of anthocyanin-related genes were observed in leaves obtained from the rubbed stems, without directly rubbing the leaves themselves, when compared with the control leaves. These findings indicate that rubbing treatment specifically and immediately activated the expression of anthocyanin-related genes in the areas subjected to mechanical stress. Surface wetting, the phenomenon where a liquid spreads or adheres to a solid surface, plays a crucial role in both natural and technological fields. This study focuses on elucidating the relationship between surface properties and wetting behavior, emphasizing the significance of hierarchical structures. A 3D hierarchical structure is created by controlling shape and size through electroplating and chemical reactions, adjusted by current intensity, ammonium persulfate, and ammonium hydroxide concentrations. This modification is achieved by modifying the surface's chemical properties. This control directly impacted the surface wetting properties, providing a means to regulate wetting behavior by altering surface structure. Through control of surface chemistry, a superhydrophilic surface is able to successfully create with a contact angle of 0° and a superhydrophobic surface with a contact angle of 171.3. Layered post-transition-metal chalcogenides, such as InSe, In4Se3, SnSe, and SnSe2, have recently been investigated as semiconducting electronic materials and thermoelectric materials owing to their adjustable electrical transport properties either by doping or alloying. Herein, the influence of intercalation doping and substitutional doping of Cu in layered InSe alloys on electrical and thermoelectric transport properties was investigated and compared by synthesizing varied compositions of CuxInSe and In1−yCuySe. It was found that Cu was intercalated in CuxInSe samples (x = 0.01 and 0.02) and behaved as an electron donor, resulting in an increase in the electron concentration and a decrease in the activation energy. Therefore, the power factor of CuxInSe samples was increased compared to that of InSe. In contrast, the substituted Cu in the In site of In1−yCuySe samples (y = 0.01 and 0.02) acted as an acceptor, and the power factor decreased owing to a decrease in the electron concentration and activation energy. Moreover, a decrease in thermal conductivity was seen for CuxInSe and In1−yCuySe samples due to increased phonon scattering after the addition of Cu. Consequently, an enhanced thermoelectric figure of merit (zT) was only observed for intercalated CuxInSe samples due to the increased power factor and decreased thermal conductivity, while substituted In1−yCuySe samples only show degraded zT. A maximum zT value of 0.062 was observed for the CuxInSe (x = 0.02) sample at 700 K, which showed a 77% enhancement compared to that of InSe. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study investigated agentive one-on-one intercultural communication between L2 English-speaking international faculty and their L2 English-speaking host colleagues in relation to identity (re)construction. Two foreign professors and their Chinese faculty colleagues participated in the study. The research instruments consisted of reflective journal writing and in-depth, semi-structured interviews. The results indicated that the occasions of the faculty's communication at Chinese universities were both influenced by and influenced a number of factors. These factors represented self- and other-positioning, agency, appropriation of native speakerism, face-threatening acts, and alterity. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play a role in innate pathogen defense and also trigger B‐cell response by providing antigens. NETs have been linked to vaccine‐induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia. We postulated a potential link between NET biomarkers, NET‐promoting autoantibodies, and adverse events (AEs) after COVID‐19 vaccine boosters. Healthy donors (HDs) who received ChAdOx1‐S (A), mRNA‐1273 (M), or recombinant protein (MVC–COV1901) vaccines at the National Taiwan University Hospital between 2021 and 2022 were recruited. We measured serial NET‐associated biomarkers, citrullinated‐histone3 (citH3), and myeloperoxidase (MPO)‐DNA. Serum citH3 and MPO‐DNA were significantly or numerically higher in HDs who reported AEs (n = 100, booster Day 0/Day 30, p = 0.01/p = 0.03 and p = 0.30/p = 0.35, respectively). We also observed a positive correlation between rash occurrence in online diaries and elevated citH3. A linear mixed model also revealed significantly higher citH3 levels in mRNA‐1273/ChAdOx1‐S recipients than MVC‐COV1901 recipients. Significant positive correlations were observed between the ratios of anti‐heparin platelet factor 4 and citH3 levels on Booster Day 0 and naïve and between the ratios of anti‐NET IgM and citH3 on Booster Day 30/Day 0 in the AA‐M and MM‐M group, respectively. The increased levels of citH3/MPO‐DNA accompanied by NET‐promoting autoantibodies suggest a potential connection between mRNA‐1273/ChAdOx1‐S vaccines and cardiovascular complications. Salix chaenomeloides Kimura, commonly known as pussy willow, is a deciduous shrub and tree belonging to the Salicaceae family. The genus Salix spp. has been known as a healing herb for the treatment of fever, inflammation, and pain relief. The current study aimed to investigate the potential bioactive natural products from S. chaenomeloides leaves and evaluate their antibacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori. A phytochemical investigation of the ethanol (EtOH) extract of S. chaenomeloides leaves led to the isolation of 13 phenolic compounds (1–13) from the ethyl acetate (EtOAc) fraction, which showed antibacterial activity against H. pylori strain 51. The chemical structure of a new phenolic glycoside, chaenomelin (1), was established by a detailed analysis of 1D and 2D (1H-1H correlation spectroscopy (COSY), heteronuclear single-quantum coherence (HSQC), and heteronuclear multiple-bond correlation (HMBC)) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (HR-ESIMS), and chemical reactions. The other known compounds were identified as 5-O-trans-p-coumaroyl quinic acid methyl ester (2), tremulacin (3), citrusin C (4), benzyl 3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl-7-hydroxybenzoate (5), tremuloidin (6), 1-[O-β-d-glucopyranosyl(1→2)-β-d-glucopyranosyl]oxy-2-phenol (7), arbutin cinnamate (8), tremulacinol (9), catechol (10), 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (11), kaempferol 3-rutinoside (12), and narcissin (13), based on the comparison of their NMR spectra with the reported data and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) analysis. The isolated compounds were evaluated for antibacterial activity against H. pylori strain 51. Among the isolates, 1-[O-β-d-glucopyranosyl(1→2)-β-d-glucopyranosyl]oxy-2-phenol (7) and arbutin cinnamate (8) exhibited antibacterial activity against H. pylori strain 51, with inhibitions of 31.4% and 33.9%, respectively, at a final concentration of 100 μM. These results were comparable to that of quercetin (38.4% inhibition), which served as a positive control. Background: The DAPA-HF and DELIVER trials demonstrated the clinical benefits of dapagliflozin in heart failure (HF) patients across the entire ejection fraction (EF) spectrum. However, further investigation is needed for the real-world application of dapagliflozin in HF patients. This study examines the proportion of real-world HF patients eligible for dapagliflozin and evaluates the cost-effectiveness of adding dapagliflozin to current HF therapy. Methods: Data from the nationwide prospective registry, the Korean Acute Heart Failure (KorAHF) registry, were used to determine dapagliflozin eligibility based on the enrollment criteria of the DAPA-HF/DELIVER trials. A cost-utility analysis was conducted using a Markov model to assess the cost-effectiveness of dapagliflozin by comparing it to the standard of care. Results: Out of 5178 KorAHF patients, 48.7% met the enrollment criteria of the DAPA-HF/DELIVER trials, while 89.5% met the label criteria (US Food and Drug Administration, European Medicines Agency, and Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety). Eligibility was highest among HF patients with preserved EF (55.3% vs. HF with mildly reduced EF and HF with reduced EF 46.4%). Dapagliflozin proved to be cost-effective, with an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of 4557 US dollar (US$) per quality-adjusted life year, which falls below the US$18,182 willingness-to-pay threshold. The cost-effectiveness benefit was more pronounced in patients with a left ventricular EF (LVEF) ≤ 40% (ICER US$3279 for LVEF ≤ 40% vs. US$8383 for LVEF > 40%). Conclusions: Discrepancies in dapagliflozin eligibility were observed between real-world data and clinical trial results. This study aimed to compare and evaluate the efficacy of the blood pressure (BP) control and cholesterol‐lowering effects and safety of combination therapy with telmisartan, rosuvastatin, and ezetimibe versus rosuvastatin and ezetimibe double therapy or telmisartan single therapy in dyslipidemia patients with hypertension. After a wash‐out/therapeutic lifestyle change period of ≥4 weeks, a total of 100 eligible patients were randomized and received one of three treatments for 8 weeks: (1) telmisartan 80 mg/rosuvastatin 20 mg/ezetimibe 10 mg (TRE), (2) rosuvastatin 20 mg/ezetimibe 10 mg (RE), or (3) telmisartan 80 mg (T). The primary endpoint was the efficacy evaluation of TRE by comparing changes in mean sitting systolic blood pressure (msSBP) and mean percentage change in low‐density lipoprotein‐C (LDL‐C) from baseline after 8 weeks of treatment. The least square (LS) mean (SE) changes in msSBP at 8 weeks compared with baseline were −23.02 (3.04) versus −7.18 (3.09) mmHg in the TRE and RE groups, respectively (p <.0001), and −25.80 (2.74) versus −14.92 (2.65) mmHg in the TRE and T groups, respectively (p =.0005). The percentage changes in the mean (SD) LDL‐C at 8 weeks compared with baseline were −54.97% (3.49%) versus −0.17% (3.23%) in the TRE and T groups, respectively (p <.0001). No serious adverse events occurred, and no statistically significant differences in the incidence of overall AEs and adverse drug reactions occurred among the three groups. Cyprus is a typical eastern Mediterranean country that suffers from local emissions, transported anthropogenic pollution, and dust storms all year round. Therefore, exposures to PM in ambient and residential micro-environments are of great public health concern. Our study collected indoor and outdoor PM2.5 and PM10 samples simultaneously in 22 houses in Nicosia, Cyprus, during warm seasons and cold seasons from February 2019 to May 2021. Samples were analyzed for mass and constituents' concentrations. To determine indoor and outdoor sources of PM in residential environments, we used the EPA positive matrix factorization (PMF) model to conduct source apportionment analyses for both indoor and outdoor PM2.5 and PM10 particles. Generally, six types of residential-level PM sources were resolved: biomass burning, traffic, local or regional secondary sulfate pollution, Ca-rich particles, sea salt, and soil dust. In the source apportionment of PM2.5, the main contribution to outdoor levels (33.1%) was associated with sulfate-rich transported pollution. The predominant contribution to indoor levels (48.0%) was attributed to secondary sulfate pollution as a mixture of local- and regional-scale pollutants. Biomass burning and traffic sources constituted the main outdoor sources of indoor PM2.5, while the Ca-rich particles were identified to almost originate from indoors. By contrast, the largest fraction (29.3%) of the ambient PM10 and a smaller proportion (10.2%) of indoor PM10 were attributed to Ca-rich particles. We recently established a long‐term SARS‐CoV‐2 infection model using lung‐cancer xenograft mice and identified mutations that arose in the SARS‐CoV‐2 genome during long‐term propagation. Here, we applied our model to the SARS‐CoV‐2 Delta variant, which has increased transmissibility and immune escape compared with ancestral SARS‐CoV‐2. We observed limited mutations in SARS‐CoV‐2 Delta during long‐term propagation, including two predominant mutations: R682W in the spike protein and L330W in the nucleocapsid protein. We analyzed two representative isolates, Delta‐10 and Delta‐12, with both predominant mutations and some additional mutations. Delta‐10 and Delta‐12 showed lower replication capacity compared with SARS‐CoV‐2 Delta in cultured cells; however, Delta‐12 was more lethal in K18‐hACE2 mice compared with SARS‐CoV‐2 Delta and Delta‐10. Mice infected with Delta‐12 had higher viral titers, more severe histopathology in the lungs, higher chemokine expression, increased astrocyte and microglia activation, and extensive neutrophil infiltration in the brain. Brain tissue hemorrhage and mild vacuolation were also observed, suggesting that the high lethality of Delta‐12 was associated with lung and brain pathology. Our long‐term infection model can provide mutant viruses derived from SARS‐CoV‐2 Delta and knowledge about the possible contributions of emergent mutations to the properties of new variants. Brine shrimp (Artemia spp.) is a significant factor in determining aquaculture production. Since the microbiota of Artemia can colonize the gut in larvae, various microorganisms transmitted from Artemia can affect host larval health. Although the microbiota composition of Artemia would be essential in determining aquaculture productivity, our understanding on microbiome of Artemia is still insufficient. Through our study, we identified the species of Artemia cysts supplied by three different manufacturers (P1, P2, and P3) with investigation of size and hatching efficiency. The species of Artemia from P1 was identified as A. tibetiana, and P2 and P3 was A. franciscana. A. tibetiana hatched from the P1 cysts had the largest body size with the lowest hatching rate. Furthermore, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the microbiome present in the rearing water and the nauplius whole body from each product. We observed specific microbiota compositions, both beneficial and harmful, depending on the product types and the sample types. Additionally, we found that the microbiota composition in the rearing water was associated with the manufacturing environment, while the compositions in the nauplius whole body were species-specific. Notably, we discovered that an extract containing microbiota from the nauplius sample of P3 increased the hatching rate of A. tibetiana, indicating a positive role in Artemia culture. These findings demonstrate that the microbial communities present in Artemia vary according to the product and/or species, underscoring their significance in aquaculture production. Background: To evaluate the clinical significance of noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) for detecting fetal sex chromosome aneuploidies (SCAs) in Korean pregnant women. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed NIPT data from 9,176 women with singleton pregnancies referred to the CHA Biotech genome diagnostics center. Cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA) was extracted from maternal peripheral blood, and high-throughput massively parallel sequencing was conducted. Subsequently, the positive NIPT results for SCA were validated via karyotype and chromosomal microarray analyses. Results: Overall, 46 cases were SCA positive after NIPT, including 20, 12, 8, and 6 for Turner, triple X, Klinefelter, and Jacob syndromes, respectively. Among 37 women with invasive prenatal diagnosis, 19 had true positive NIPT results. The overall positive predictive value (PPV) of NIPT for detecting SCAs was 51.35%. The PPV was 18.75% for Turner, 88.89% for triple X, 71.43% for Klinefelter, and 60.00% for Jacob's syndromes. NIPT accuracy for detecting sex chromosome trisomies was higher than that for sex chromosome monosomy (P = 0.002). No significant correlation was observed between fetal SCA incidence and maternal age (P = 0.914), except for the borderline significance of Jacob's syndrome (P = 0.048). No significant differences were observed when comparing NIPT and karyotyping validation for fetal SCA according to pregnancy characteristics. Conclusion: Our data suggest that NIPT can reliably screen for SCAs, and it performed better in predicting sex chromosome trisomies compared with monosomy X. No correlation was observed between maternal age and fetal SCA incidence, and no association was observed between different pregnancy characteristics. The accuracy of these findings requires improvements; however, our study provides an important reference for clinical genetic counseling and further management. This study investigated natal factors influencing developmental defects of enamel (DDE) in premature infants using a newly refined preterm developmental defects of enamel (PDDE) index. Dental examinations were conducted on a cohort of 118 preterm infants (average age 3.5 ± 1.4 years) to record PDDE scores, while reviewing their medical records to examine natal factors. According to the logistic regression analysis, factors related to DDE prevalence were advanced maternal age, gestational age < 28 weeks, birth weight < 1000 g, 1 min APGAR score < 7, and hospitalization period > 2 months, which were significantly higher by 2.91, 5.53, 7.63, 10.02, and 4.0 times, respectively. According to regression analysis with generalized linear models, the PDDE scores were approximately 7.65, 4.96, and 15.0 points higher in premature children diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia, intraventricular hemorrhage, and necrotizing enterocolitis, respectively. When endotracheal intubation was performed, the PDDE score was 5.06 points higher. The prevalence of PDDE was primarily observed bilaterally in the maxillary anterior teeth. Extremely preterm infants showed significantly delayed tooth eruption, suggesting that the influence of gestational age on dental development rates. Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have attracted considerable attention because of their outstanding photovoltaic performance and low fabrication cost. Conventional TiO2 ETL preparation methods require high-temperature annealing (>450 °C), which increases the fabrication cost and limits application on flexible substrates. To overcome these drawbacks, we propose a method for fabricating thin TiO2 films via sputtering at room temperature without thermal annealing. We systematically investigated the effects of the sputtering parameters, ultraviolet (UV) treatment, and thermal sintering on the properties of TiO2 ETLs for PSCs. With proper UV treatment, the sputtered TiO2 films exhibited well-matched band alignment, defect reduction, and improvements in the carrier concentration, electron mobility, and hole-blocking ability compared with thermally sintered TiO2 films. We also fabricated large-area perovskite modules using sputtered and UV-treated TiO2 films as ETLs on rigid and flexible substrates, and they had maximum power-conversion efficiencies of 18.82% and 14.61%, respectively. Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a major cause of mortality from a single infectious agent, possesses a remarkable mycobacterial cell envelope. Penicillin-Binding Proteins (PBPs) are a family of bacterial enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of peptidoglycan. PBP4 (DacB) from M. tuberculosis (MtbPBP4) has been known to function as a carboxypeptidase, and the role and significance of carboxypeptidases as targets for anti-tuberculosis drugs or antibiotics have been extensively investigated over the past decade. However, their precise involvement remains incompletely understood. In this study, we employed predictive modeling and analyzed the three-dimensional structure of MtbPBP4. Interestingly, MtbPBP4 displayed a distinct domain structure compared to its homologs. Docking studies with meropenem verified the presence of active site residues conserved in PBPs. The effects of La-Co co-substitution on the structural and magnetic properties of strontium M-type hexaferrites (SrM) were carefully investigated for the Sr1−xLaxFe12−xCoxO19 (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3) polycrystalline samples prepared by solid-state reaction in air. Without the use of sintering additives, La-Co co-substituted SrM single phases could be obtained from polycrystalline bulk samples by employing proper processing conditions. The lattice parameter a initially increases with increasing x from 0.0 to 0.1 but gradually decreases with increasing x to 0.20, and then remains almost unaltered up to x = 0.3; the lattice parameter c monotonously decreases with increasing x from 0.0 to 0.25, but it turns to an increase when x = 0.3. The reduction in c/a ratios and Vcell values with increasing x up to x = 0.25 are obviously attributable to the decreasing size effect resulting from La3+ substitution at the Sr2+ site, which surpasses the increasing size effect due to Co2+ and Fe2+ occupancy at the Fe3+ site. Meanwhile, with increasing x from 0.0 to 0.3, while the saturation magnetization (MS) continuously decreases from 75.90 to 72.07 emu/g, the magnetic anisotropy field (Ha) increases from 20.1 to 24.7 kOe, leading to an increase in the intrinsic coercivity (Hci) from 2.68 to 3.99 kOe. The gradual increase in Ha with x, probably caused by a gradual decrease in the crystallographic symmetry, is inversely proportional to the variation in the c/a ratios up to x = 0.25 as usual except when x = 0.3, of which deviation needs further study. Among such probes, NeuO stands out as the pioneer and has gained significant traction in the field of research. Nevertheless, neither the mechanism behind neuron‐selectivity nor the cellular localization has been determined. Here, we introduce NeuM, a derivative of NeuO, designed to target neuronal cell membranes. Furthermore, we elucidate the mechanism behind the selective neuronal membrane trafficking that distinguishes neurons. In an aqueous buffer, NeuM autonomously assembles into micellar structures, leading to the quenching of its fluorescence (Φ=0.001). Upon exposure to neurons, NeuM micelles were selectively internalized into neuronal endosomes via clathrin‐mediated endocytosis. Through the endocytic recycling pathway, NeuM micelles integrate into neuronal membrane, dispersing fluorescent NeuM molecules in the membrane (Φ=0.61). Molecular dynamics simulations demonstrated that NeuM, in comparison to NeuO, possesses optimal lipophilicity and molecular length, facilitating its stable incorporation into phospholipid layers. (1) Background: Advancements in the field of liver surgery have led to a critical need for precise estimations of preoperative liver function to prevent post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF), a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. This study introduces a novel application of artificial intelligence (AI) in determining safe resection volumes according to a patient's liver function in major hepatectomies. (2) Methods: We incorporated a deep learning approach, incorporating a unique liver-specific loss function, to analyze patient characteristics, laboratory data, and liver volumetry from computed tomography scans of 52 patients. Our approach was evaluated against existing machine and deep learning techniques. (3) Results: Our approach achieved 68.8% accuracy in predicting safe resection volumes, demonstrating superior performance over traditional models. Furthermore, it significantly reduced the mean absolute error in under-predicted volumes to 23.72, indicating a more precise estimation of safe resection limits. These findings highlight the potential of integrating AI into surgical planning for liver resections. Bi2Se3 alloys are promising thermoelectric materials for use at near room temperature. In this study, we investigated the thermoelectric transport properties of Co-doped Bi2Se3, Bi2−xCoxSe3 (x = 0 , 0.03, 0.06, 0.09, and 0.12) polycrystalline alloys. The electrical conductivity of Bi2Se3 increased with Co doping as the electron concentration increased. The power factor increased by 83% (1.17 mW/mK2) with the Co doping compared with 0.64 mW/mK2 for pristine Bi2Se3 at room temperature. The density-of-states effective mass significantly increased to 0.30 m 0 (free electron mass) by high Co doping of x =0.12 compared to 0.14 m 0 for pristine Bi2Se3. The total thermal conductivity of the Co-doped samples increased owing to the increase in electronic thermal conductivity, despite the systematic decrease in the lattice thermal conductivity caused by Co doping due to additional phonon scattering. Nevertheless, an enhancement in z T was observed for all the Co-doped samples. The maximum z T value of 0.39 in highly Co-doped Bi1.88Co0.12Se3 is observed at 520K, which is 18% higher than that of pristine Bi2Se3. The z T value of the Co-doped sample could be further increased with the decrease in carrier concentration, which could be attained with the decrease in total thermal conductivity owing to the decreased electronic thermal conductivity while maintaining a high power factor originating from the increased effective mass. Surface modification with alginate (Alg) has attracted significant attention because of its potential applications in non-biofouling surface preparation, tissue engineering, and drug delivery. Much effort has been made to develop facile methods for preparing stable Alg coatings, including metal ion-mediated cross-link formation between polydopamine-coated solid surfaces and Alg. Although this approach has yielded Alg coatings that strongly inhibit platelet adhesion and fibrinogen adsorption on solid surfaces, their long-term stability, which is a prerequisite for practical applications, remains unknown. This study evaluated the long-term stability of Alg coatings under physiological conditions. The Alg coatings were incubated in phosphate-buffered saline at 37.5 °C for up to four weeks and subsequently analyzed for non-biofouling properties. The analysis revealed that the anti-protein adsorption and antiplatelet adhesion properties of the Alg coating were maintained at 80 and 90%, respectively, after four weeks of incubation. This study provides valuable insights into the long-term stability of Alg coatings and their potential for practical applications, addressing an overlooked crucial aspect. The findings contribute to advancements in tissue engineering, drug delivery systems, and other biomedical applications by enhancing our understanding of Alg coatings' durability and guiding the design of robust non-biofouling materials. In this study, we propose an optimized AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) with a considerably improved breakdown voltage. First, we matched the simulated data obtained from a basic T-gate HEMT with the measured data obtained from the fabricated device to ensure the reliability of the simulation. Thereafter, to improve the breakdown voltage, we suggested applying a gate-head extended structure. The gate-head-top and gate-head-bottom lengths of the basic T-gate HEMT were symmetrically extended by 0.2 μm steps up to 1.0 μm. The breakdown voltage of the 1.0 μm extended structure was 52% higher than that of the basic T-gate HEMT. However, the cutoff frequency ( f T ) and maximum frequency ( f m a x ) degraded. To minimize the degradation of f T and f m a x , we additionally introduced a gate-recessed structure to the 1.0 μm gate-head extended HEMT. The thickness of the 25 nm AlGaN barrier layer was thinned down to 13 nm in 3 nm steps, and the highest f T and f m a x were obtained at a 6 nm recessed structure. The f T and f m a x of the gate-recessed structure improved by 9% and 28%, respectively, with respect to those of the non-gate-recessed structure, and further improvement of the breakdown voltage by 35% was observed. Consequently, considering the trade-off relationship between the DC and RF characteristics, the 1.0 μm gate-head extended HEMT with the 6 nm gate-recessed structure was found to be the optimized AlGaN/GaN HEMT for high-power operations.
