Although CRISPR/Cas9 has been widely used in insect gene editing, the need for the microinjection of preblastoderm embryos can preclude the technique being used in insect species with eggs that are small, have hard shells, and/or are difficult to collect and maintain outside of their normal environment. Such is the case with Sogatella furcifera, the white‐backed planthopper (WBPH), a significant pest of Oryza sativa (rice) that oviposits inside rice stems. Egg extraction from the stem runs the risk of mechanical damage and hatching is heavily influenced by the micro‐environment of the rice stem. To bypass these issues, we targeted embryos prior to oviposition via direct parental (DIPA)‐CRISPR, in which Cas9 and single‐guide RNAs (sgRNAs) for the WBPH eye pigment gene tryptophan 2,3‐dioxygenase were injected into the hemocoel of adult females. Females at varying numbers of days posteclosion were evaluated to determine at what stage their oocyte might be most capable of taking up the gene‐editing components. An evaluation of the offspring indicated that the highest G0 gene‐edited efficacy (56.7%) occurred in females injected 2 d posteclosion, and that those mutations were heritably transmitted to the G1 generation. This study demonstrates the potential utility of DIPA‐CRISPR for future gene‐editing studies in non‐model insect species and can facilitate the development of novel pest management applications. Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the incremental prognostic value of the right ventricular fractal dimension (FD), a novel marker of myocardial trabecular complexity by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in patients with arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (ACM). Methods: Consecutive patients with ACM undergoing CMR were followed up for major cardiac events, including sudden cardiac death, aborted cardiac arrest, and appropriate implantable cardioverter defibrillator intervention. Prognosis prediction was compared by Cox regression analysis. We established a multivariable model supplemented with RV FD and evaluated its discrimination by Harrell's C-statistic. We compared the category-free, continuous net reclassification improvement (cNRI) and integrated discrimination index (IDI) before and after the addition of FD. Results: A total of 105 patients were prospectively included from three centers and followed up for a median of 60 (48, 66) months; experienced 36 major cardiac events were recorded. Trabecular FD displayed a strong unadjusted association with major cardiac events (p < 0.05). In the multivariable Cox regression analysis, RV maximal apical FD maintained an independent association with major cardiac events (hazard ratio, 1.31 (1.11–1.55), p < 0.002). The Hosmer–Lemeshow goodness of fit test displayed good fit (X2 = 0.68, p = 0.99). Diagnostic performance was significantly improved after the addition of RV maximal apical FD to the multivariable baseline model, and the continuous net reclassification improvement increased 21% (p = 0.001), and the integrated discrimination index improved 16% (p = 0.045). Conclusions: In patients with ACM, CMR-assessed myocardial trabecular complexity was independently correlated with adverse cardiovascular events and provided incremental prognostic value. Clinical relevance statement: The application of FD values for assessing RV myocardial trabeculae may become an accessible and promising parameter in monitoring and early diagnosis of risk factors for adverse cardiovascular events in patients with ACM. Background: To analyse the association among the simultaneous effects of dietary intake, daily life behavioural factors, and frailty outcomes in older Chinese women, we predicted the probability of maintaining physical robustness under a combination of different variables. Methods: The Fried frailty criterion was used to determine the three groups of "frailty", "pre-frailty", and "robust", and a national epidemiological survey was performed. The three-classification decision tree model was fitted, and the comprehensive performance of the model was evaluated to predict the probability of occurrence of different outcomes. Results: Among the 1,044 participants, 15.9% were frailty and 50.29% were pre-frailty; the overall prevalence first increased and then decreased with age, reaching a peak at 70–74 years of age. Through univariate analysis, filtering, and embedded screening, eight significant variables were identified: staple food, spices, exercise (frequency, intensity, and time), work frequency, self-feeling, and family emotions. In the three-classification decision tree, the values of each evaluation index of Model 3 were relatively average; the accuracy, recall, specificity, precision, and F1 score range were between 75% and 84%, and the AUC was also greater than 0.800, indicating excellent performance and the best interpretability of the results. Model 3 takes exercise time as the root node and contains 6 variables and 10 types, suggesting the impact of the comprehensive effect of these variables on robust and non-robust populations (the predicted probability range is 6.67–93.33%). Conclusion: The combined effect of these factors (no exercise or less than 0.5 h of exercise per day, occasional exercise, exercise at low intensity, feeling more tired at work, and eating too many staple foods (> 450 g per day) are more detrimental to maintaining robustness. Genes involved in melanin production directly impact insect pigmentation and can affect diverse physiology and behaviours. The role these genes have on sex behaviour, however, is unclear. In the present study, the crucial melanin pigment gene black was functionally characterised in an urban pest, the German cockroach, Blattella germanica. RNAi knockdown of B. germanica black (Bgblack) had no effect on survival, but did result in black pigmentation of the thoraxes, abdomens, heads, wings, legs, antennae, and cerci due to cuticular accumulation of melanin. Sex-specific variation in the pigmentation pattern was apparent, with females exhibiting darker coloration on the abdomen and thorax than males. Bgblack knockdown also resulted in wing deformation and negatively impacted the contact sex pheromone-based courtship behaviour of males. This study provides evidence for black function in multiple aspects of B. germanica biology and opens new avenues of exploration for novel pest control strategies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The temporal evolution of ventricular trabecular complexity and its correlation with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) remain indeterminate in patients presenting with acute ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Methods: This retrospective analysis enrolled patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) for acute STEMI, possessing cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) data in the acute (within 7 days), subacute (1 month after pPCI), and chronic phases (6 months after pPCI) from January 2015 to January 2020 at the three participating sites. Fractal dimensions (FD) were measured for the global, infarct, and remote regions of left ventricular trabeculae during each phase. The potential association of FD with MACE was analyzed using multivariate Cox regression. Results: Among the 200 analyzed patients (182 men; median age, 61 years; age range, 50–66 years), 37 (18.5%) encountered MACE during a median follow-up of 31.2 months. FD exhibited a gradual decrement (global FD at acute, subacute, and chronic phases: 1.253 ± 0.049, 1.239 ± 0.046, 1.230 ± 0.045, p < 0.0001), with a more pronounced decrease observed in patients subsequently experiencing MACE (p < 0.001). The global FD at the subacute phase correlated with MACE (hazard ratio 0.89 (0.82, 0.97), p = 0.01), and a global FD value below 1.26 was associated with a heightened risk. Conclusion: In patients post-STEMI, the global FD, serving as an indicator of left ventricular trabeculae complexity, independently demonstrated an association with subsequent major adverse cardiovascular events, beyond factors encompassing left ventricular ejection fraction, indexed left ventricular end-diastolic volume, infarct size, heart rate, NYHA class, and post-pPCI TIMI flow. Critical relevance statement: In patients who have had an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, global fractal dimension, as a measure of left ventricular trabeculae complexity, provided independent association with subsequent major adverse cardiovascular event. Chitin synthase is an indispensable enzyme that is involved in the synthesis of chitin, a key component of the insect cuticle during insect development, which has long been considered a potential target for pest control. The German cockroach Blattella germanica is a notorious urban pest that has developed resistance to more than one class of insecticide. Therefore, there is an urgent need to explore novel green molecular approaches for sustainable insect pest control. In this study, two chitin synthase (CHS) genes (BgCHS1 and BgCHS2) were identified for the first time in B. germanica: Phylogenetic relationships, motif patterns, and conserved domain regions of all the predicted CHS genes were identified. Furthermore, the function characteristic of the two BgCHS genes was studied using a microinjection-based RNAi system. The results showed that silencing of BgCHS1 and BgCHS2 both resulted in high mortality. Knockdown of the BgCHS1 gene resulted in impaired molting and abnormal development, while knockdown of the BgCHS2 gene expression resulted in abnormal development. Additionally, a large-scale dsRNA production system via Escherichia coli was built and a nanoparticle-based (Star Polymers, SPc) oral delivery system of an SPc-wrapped two dsRNA of dsBgCHS1 and dsBgCHS2 was evaluated, which resulted in a high mortality and ultrastructural changes in the integument and midgut of cockroach nymphs, respectively. This study illustrates the functions of the two novel identified CHS genes in B. germanica, which can serve as potential gene targets for controlling one of the most serious urban health pests. Objectives: Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is an inherited cardiomyopathy characterized by progressive fibrofatty infiltration of atrial and ventricular myocardium resulting in adverse cardiac events. Atrial function has been increasingly recognized as prognostically important for cardiovascular disease. As the right atrial (RA) strain is a sensitive parameter to describe RA function, we aimed to analyze the prognostic value of the RA strain in ARVC. Methods: RA strain parameters were derived from cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images of 105 participants with definite ARVC. The endpoint was defined as a combination of sudden cardiac death, survival cardiac arrest, and appropriate implantable cardioverter-defibrillator intervention. Cox regression and Kaplan–Meier survival analyses were performed to evaluate the association between RA strain parameters and endpoint. Concordance index (C index), net reclassification index (NRI), and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) were calculated to assess the incremental value of RA strain in predicting the endpoint. Results: After a median follow-up of 5 years, 36 (34.3%) reaching the endpoint displayed significantly reduced RA strain parameters. At Kaplan–Meier analysis, impaired RA reservoir (RARS) and booster strains (RABS) were associated with an increased risk of the endpoint. After adjusting for conventional risk factors, RARS (hazard ratio [HR], 0.956; p = 0.005) and RABS (HR, 0.906; p = 0.002) resulted as independent predictors for endpoint at Cox regression analyses. In addition, RARS and RABS improved prognostic value to clinical risk factors and CMR morphological and functional predictors (all p < 0.05). Conclusion: RARS and RABS were independent predictors for adverse cardiac events, which could provide incremental prognostic value for conventional predictors in ARVC. Critical relevance statement: We evaluated the prognostic value of right atrial strain in ARVC patients and suggested cardiologists consider RA strain as a predictive parameter when evaluating the long-term outcome of ARVC patients in order to formulate better clinical therapy. The discovery of the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR) system has driven gene manipulation technology to a new era with applications reported in organisms that span the tree of life. The utility of CRISPR‐mediated editing was further expanded to mRNA following identification of the RNA‐targeting Cas13 family of smaller endonuclease proteins. Application of this family to insect research, however, has been more limited. In this study, the smallest Cas13 family member, Cas13d, and guide RNAs (gRNAs) were complexed with a versatile nanomaterial (star polycation, SPc) to generate a proof‐of‐concept RNA‐editing platform capable of disrupting mRNA expression of the eye pigmentation gene tryptophan 2,3‐dioxygenase (SfTO) in white‐backed planthoppers (WBPHs). The resulting red‐eye phenotype was present in 19.76% (with SPc) and 22.99% (without SPc) of the treatment groups and was comparable to the red‐eye phenotype generated following conventional RNA interference knockdown (22.22%). Furthermore, the Cas13/gRNA phenotype manifested more quickly than RNA interference. Consistent with the expected Cas13d mechanism, SfTO transcript levels were significantly reduced. Taken together, the results indicate that the SPc‐CRISPR‐Cas13d/gRNA complex negatively impacted expression of the target gene. These findings confirm the utility of this novel mRNA disruption system in insects and lay the foundation for further development of these tools in the implementation of green agricultural pest management tactics. Objective: To investigate the impact of selective artery clamping (SAC) and main artery clamping (MAC) during robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) on renal function and the influence of holographic three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of renal segments on the selection between SAC and MAC. Methods: This retrospective observational study included patients who underwent RAPN at First Hospital Affiliated to the Army Medical University between December 2016 and July 2022. According to the clamping methods, the patients were divided into the SAC group and the MAC group. The primary outcome was renal function. Results: A total of 422 patients (194 in the SAC group and 228 in the MAC group) were included. The RAPN procedures were all completed successfully. The patients in SAC group had less glomerular filtration rate (GFR) decline in the affected kidney (8.6 ± 7.0 ml/min vs. 18.7 ± 10.9 ml/min, P < 0.001) and minor estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decrease (4.3 ± 10.5 ml/min vs. 12.6 ± 12.1 ml/min, P < 0.001) than those in MAC group. Among 37 patients with baseline renal insufficiency, the GFR decline of the affected kidney in the SAC subgroup was significantly lower than in the MAC subgroup (5.5 ± 6.5 ml/min vs. 14.3 ± 9.2 ml/min, P = 0.002). The proportion of patients who underwent 3D reconstruction was significant higher in the SAC group than in the MAC group. (65.46% vs. 28.07%, P < 0.001). Conclusion: The SAC technique during RAPN may serve as a protective measure for renal function, while the implementation of holographic 3D renal segment reconstruction technique may facilitate optimal selection of SAC. BACKGROUND: The white‐backed planthopper (WBPH, Sogatella furcifera) is a major rice pest that exhibits condition dependent wing dimorphisms – a macropterous (long wing) form and a brachypterous (short wing) form. Although, the gene cascade that regulates wing development and dimorphic differentiation has been largely defined, the utility of these genes as targets for pest control has yet to be fully explored. RESULTS: Five genes typically associated with the developmental signaling network, armadillo (arm), apterous A (apA), scalloped (sd), dachs (d), and yorkie (yki) were identified from the WBPH genome and their roles in wing development assessed following RNA interference (RNAi)‐mediated knockdown. At 5 days‐post injection, transcript levels for all five targets were substantially decreased compared with the dsGFP control group. Among the treatment groups, those injected with dsSfarm had the most pronounced effects on transcript reduction, mortality (95 ± 3%), and incidence (45 ± 3%) of wing deformities, whereas those injected with dsSfyki had the lowest incidence (6.7 ± 4%). To assess the utility of topical RNAi for Sfarm, we used a spray‐based approach that complexed a large‐scale, bacteria‐based double‐stranded RNA (dsRNA) expression pipeline with star polycation (SPc) nanoparticles. Rice seedlings infested with third and fourth instar nymphs were sprayed with SPc–dsRNA formulations and RNAi phenotypic effects were assessed over time. At 2 days post‐spray, Sfarm transcript levels decreased by 86 ± 9.5% compared with dsGFP groups, and the subsequent incidences of mortality and wing defects were elevated in the treatment group. Background: This study systematically reviewed injury death and causes in the elderly population in China from 2000 to 2020, to prevent or reduce the occurrence of injuries and death. Methods: The CNKI, VIP, Wan Fang, MEDLINE, Embase, SinoMed, and Web of Science databases were searched to collect epidemiological characteristics of injury death among elderly over 60 years old in China from January 2000 to December 2020. Random effects meta-analysis was performed to pool injury mortality rate and identify publication bias, with study quality assessed using the AHRQ risk of bias tool. Results: (1) A total of 41 studies with 187 488 subjects were included, covering 125 million elderly. The pooled injury mortality rate was 135.58/105 [95%CI: (113.36 to 162.14)/105], ranking second in the total death cause of the elderly. (2)Subgroup analysis showed that male injury death (146.00/105) was significantly higher than that of females (127.90/105), and overall injury mortality increased exponentially with age (R2 = 0.957), especially in those over 80 years old; the spatial distribution shows that the injury death rate in the central region is higher than that in the east and west and that in the countryside is higher than that in the city; the distribution of death time shows that after entering an aging society (2000–2020) is significantly higher than before (1990–2000). (3) There are more than 12 types of injury death, and the top three are falling, traffic accidents, and suicide. Conclusions: China's elderly injury death rate is at a high level in the world, with more males than females, especially after the age of 80. There are regional differences. The main types of injury death are falling, traffic, and suicide. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, for accidental injuries and death, a rectification list for aging and barrier-free environments was issued. Background: Although the asterion has long been used as a skeletal surface marker of the transverse-sigmoid sinuses junction (TSSJ) point in the retrosigmoid approach, abundant evidence shows that the relationship between asterion and TSSJ point varies greatly. In recent years, new technologies have been developed, such as neuronavigation and three-dimensional volume rendering imaging, that can guide in exposing the TSSJ point individually. However, they are not only expensive but also difficult to apply in emergency surgery.Objective: To introduce a quick, practical, and low-cost new method for locating the TSSJ point precisely.Methods: In this retrospective before-after study, the test group located the TSSJ point with our new method during a 6-month period, while the control group used asterion as a surface landmark to estimate the TSSJ during the preceding 6 months. The primary outcome is the immediate exposure rate of the TSSJ point by the initial burr hole.Results: There were 60 patients in both control and test groups as no significant difference in the general clinical characteristics of both groups were observed. The new three-step method significantly increased the TSSJ exposure rate by initial burr hole compared with the control group (96.67% vs. 53.33%, P = 0.0002). Moreover, the total bone loss and craniotomy duration were significantly reduced by the new method. Incidence of sinus injury (10% vs. 6.6%), post-operation infection (3.33% vs. 3.33%), and CSF leakage (3.33% vs. 0%) were similar.Conclusions: The novel three-step approach accurately locates TSSJ points in retrosigmoid craniotomy, reduces bone defects, saves time, and does not increase the risk of sinus injury, infection, and CSF leakage. BACKGROUND: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), zinc finger homeodomain‐2 (zfh‐2), Abdominal‐A (Abd‐A), and Abdominal‐B (Abd‐B) regulate the growth and development of the insect abdomen. However, their potential roles in pest control have not been fully assessed. The development of insecticide resistance to multiple chemistries in the white‐backed planthopper (WBPH), a major pest of rice, has prompted interest in novel pest control approaches that are ecologically friendly. Although pest management approaches based on double‐stranded RNA (dsRNA)‐mediated RNA interference (RNAi) have potential, their susceptibility to degradation limits large‐scale field applications. These limitations, however, can be overcome with nanoparticle–dsRNA complexes that have greater environmental stability and improved cellular uptake. RESULTS: In this study, at 5 days post‐injection, transcripts for the four gene targets were reduced relative to controls and all of the experimental groups exhibited significant phenotypic defects and increased mortality. To evaluate the potential of these gene targets for field applications, a nanocarrier–dsRNA spray delivery system was assessed for RNAi efficacy. At 11 days post‐spray, significant phenotypic defects and increased mortality were observed in all experimental groups. CONCLUSION: Taken together, the results confirm the suitability of the target genes (SfEGFR, Sfzfh‐2, SfAbd‐A, and SfAbd‐B) for pest management and demonstrate the efficacy of the nanocarrier spray system for inducing RNAi‐mediated knockdown. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between increased extracellular matrix estimated by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and left ventricular aneurysm after acute myocardial infarction. Methods: A total of 175 patients from 3 centers with an isolated left anterior descending culprit vessel underwent CMR examinations within 1 week and at a 6-month follow-up. Of these, 92 were identified to have left ventricular aneurysms (LVAs): 74 with functional aneurysm and 18 with anatomical aneurysm. The predictive significance of acute extracellular volume (ECV), left gadolinium enhancement (LGE), and other characteristics were analyzed using binary logistic regression analysis. Results: Patients with LVA were more likely to present with left ventricular adverse remodeling (LVAR) than those without (p = 0.009). With optimal cutoff values of 30.90% for LGE and 33% for ECV to discriminate LVA from non-LVA, the area under the curve (AUC) by receiver operator characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was 0.92 (95% CI: 0.87–0.96; p < 0.001) and 0.93 (95% CI: 0.88–0.96; p < 0.001), respectively. ECV was significantly better than LGE at discriminating between functional and anatomical LVA (p < 0.001). Both acute LGE and ECV were predictors of LVA, with an odds ratio of 1.35 (95% CI: 1.21–1.52, p < 0.001) and 1.23 (95% CI: 1.13–1.33, p < 0.001), respectively, by multivariable logistic regression analysis. Conclusions: Acute LGE and ECV of the myocardium provided predictive significance for LVA. The discriminative significance of ECV for functional versus anatomical LVA was better than the discriminative significance of LGE. Through a comparative study of last testaments documented in epitaphs of the Tang period, this article offers a glimpse into people's outlooks on life and their concerns in the face of death. The thoughts expressed in last testaments have been neglected in the studies of Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty, with research restricted to compilations of materials. In-depth analyses of such materials are rare. Through a study of the last testaments in the epitaphs, several trends in attitudes towards death and burial can be discerned: a turn from burial to cremation; the simplification of ritual and its procedures; a greater prevalence of separate, rather than joint spousal interment. The last testaments from the Tang period exhibit these different features under the influence of Buddhist ideas prevalent during those times. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hairy cell leukemia-Japanese variant (HCL-jv) shares some features with, but differs in other features from, HCL variant. Recently, it has been pointed out that HCL-jv and splenic diffuse red pulp small B-cell lymphoma (SDRPL) possibly constitute the same disease. We report a patient with HCL-jv, in which the neoplastic cells in the resected spleen were positive for CD11c, CD103, tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (by immunohistochemistry), and weakly positive for cyclin D3. They were negative for CD25, CD123, annexin A1, and BRAF V600E-derived protein. Meta-analysis of HCL-jv cases in the literature showed considerable variation in the expression of HCL-related molecules. Although the clinical features and pattern of splenic involvement of HCL-jv are similar to those of SDRPL, some cytomorphological and phenotypical differences can be pointed out. To confirm whether the weak expression of cyclin D3 in our case suggests a spectrum from HCL-jv to SDRPL or one of the characteristics of HCL-jv, further studies on a large number of cases are necessary. Comprehensive Summary: The environmental contamination of uranium will occur in scenarios such as nuclear accidents and leakage from nuclear waste storage sites, which eventually leads to the internal uranium exposure of people, causing consequential injuries of renal failure, osteosarcoma, etc. The development of uranyl specific chelating agents that could sequester uranium in vivo is in urgent need and is important for the safe and efficient development of nuclear industry. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) already serve as efficient uranium depletion materials in solutions of a wide range of pH and ionic strength for nuclear fuel recycling, uranium extraction from seawater, as well as environmental decontamination. Herein, a chromium‐based nano‐metal organic framework (nano‐MOF) functionalized interiorly with 3,2‐HOPO ligands, MIL‐101‐HOPO, is rationally synthesized. In vitro adsorption experiments show that MIL‐101‐HOPO exhibits high adsorption selectivity and fast adsorption kinetics for uranyl. The results of in vivo uranyl decorporation assays reveal that MIL‐101‐HOPO with the decoration of HOPO ligands on the interior wall exhibits significantly increased uranyl removal ratio in kidneys comparing to the pristine nMOFs, and is more effective than the clinically used ZnNa3‐DTPA. Background: Myocardial T1 and extracellular volume (ECV) fraction values have important roles in the prognostication of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). However, the traditional mean quantification of intensity levels is not sufficient. Purpose: To evaluate a T1 map‐based radiomic nomogram as a long‐term prognosticator for HFpEF in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients. Study Type: Prospective. Population: A total of 115 SLE patients and 50 age‐ and gender‐matched controls. Field Strength/Sequence: A 3.0 T scanner; cine imaging, precontrast and post‐contrast T1 mapping and T2 mapping sequences. Assessment: A radiomic nomogram was developed based on precontrast T1 mapping. Three independent readers assessed and compared the ECV value and the value of the radiomic nomogram for predicting HFpEF in SLE patients. Statistical Test: Cox proportional hazard models, Youden index for determining cut‐off values for high HFpEF risk vs. low HFpEF risk classification, Kaplan–Meier analysis, intraclass correlation (ICC), and Uno C statistic test. Results: During a median follow‐up of 27 (interquartile range, 19–37) months, 31 SLE patients developed HFpEF. Patients with elevated ECV (≥31%) and a higher output (≥42.7) from the radiomic feature "S_33_sum average" of the precontrast T1 map had a significantly higher risk of developing HFpEF than those who had lower ECV (<31%) and an output <42.7. Patients with a higher "S_33_sum average" value on precontrast T1 map had a significantly increased risk for HFpEF (hazard ratio, 1.363, 95% CI, 1.130–1.645), after adjusting for covariates including ECV and LVEF. Finally, "S_33_sum average" from precontrast T1 mapping had modest but significantly incremental prognostic value over the mean ECV value (Uno C statistic comparing models, 0.860 vs. 0.835). Data Conclusion: The precontrast T1 map‐based radiomic nomogram, as a measure of diffuse myocardial fibrosis was associated with HFpEF and provided modest prognostic value for predicting HFpEF in SLE patients. Seven coronavirus species have been identified that can infect humans. While human coronavirus infections had been historically associated with only mild respiratory symptoms similar to the common cold, three coronaviruses identified since 2003, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and SARS-CoV-2, cause life-threatening severe respiratory syndromes. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the highly transmissible SARS-CoV-2 has triggered a worldwide health emergency. Due to the lack of effective drugs and vaccination, rapid and reliable detection is of vital importance to control coronavirus epidemics/pandemics. A literature search was performed in Pubmed covering the detections and diagnostics of SARS, MERS and SARS-CoV-2. This review summarized the current knowledge of established and emerging methods for coronavirus detection. The characteristics of different diagnostic approaches were described, and the strengths and weaknesses of each method were analyzed and compared. In addition, future trends in the field of coronavirus detection were also discussed. Nucleic acid–based RT-PCR is the current golden-standard of coronavirus detection, while immunoassays provide history of coronavirus infection besides diagnostic information. The three-dimensional (3D) mesoporous titanium dioxide (TiO2) was synthesized by microwave-assisted hydrothermal method, using titanium sulfate as titanium source and urea to adjust pH value. Its structure and photocatalytic oxidation properties were studied. The results show that the TiO2 particles have a 3D mesoporous structure, uniform distribution and spherical shape, the average diameter is about 0.67 μ m. These properties provide strong light adsorption, high specific surface area, which increases the active site of the photocatalyst, porosity can also enhance the ability of the material to adsorb pollutants, thus has better stability. It was applied to photocatalytic degradation of 10 mg/L rhodamine B (RhB) solution. After 80 min of irradiation under 420 nm ultraviolet (UV) light, the degradation rate of RhB reached more than 90%. In addition, it also provided an excellent photocatalytic efficiency of removing Hg0 in simulated flue gas. The removal efficiency could still reach over 86% after 40 h, which could be used in the treatment of heavy metal pollutants such as metallurgical flue gas. A spherical three-dimensional mesoporous titanium dioxide (TiO2) with an average diameter of about 0.67 μm was prepared by microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. Compared with the other three TiO2 materials, the TiO2 prepared by microwave-assisted hydrothermal method (CT) has stronger light absorption capacity and larger specific surface area, which can remove Hg0 in simulated flue gas more effectively and stably. Objectives: To compare the occurrence of emptying dysfunction between surgical techniques for orthotopic neobladder suspended with round ligament (rONB) and the standard procedure (sONB). Patients and Methods: A prospective randomised controlled trial was performed in a single centre of female patients undergoing creation of an ONB using rONB or sONB. Patients were followed for ≥24 months after ONB. The primary endpoints were significant post‐void residual urine volume (sPVR) and need for clean intermittent catheterisation (CIC) at 24 months postoperatively. The secondary endpoints included early and late complications, urodynamic profile, and ONB continence. Results: Between January 2011 and October 2017, the trial enrolled 85 patients, of whom 82 were randomised. A total of 41 patients had a rONB and 41 a sONB. At 24 months, 17 of the 37 patients with a sONB and nine of the 39 patients with a rONB had a sPVR. The cumulative risk of a sPVR was significantly lower in the rONB group (23.1%) vs the sONB group (45.9%) (hazard ratio [HR] 0.43, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.19–0.96; P = 0.040). In all, 15 of the 37 patients with a sONB and four of the 39 patients with a rONB needed CIC. The cumulative risk of requiring CIC was significantly lower in the rONB group (10.3%) vs the sONB group (40.5%) (HR 0.22, 95% CI 0.07–0.67; P = 0.008) at 24 months. Multivariable Cox regression analysis also showed that the rONB type was an independently protective factor for sPVR and CIC. The rates of early (0–90 days) and late complication (>90 days) were 54.1% and 13.5% in the sONB group, and 64.1% and 10.3% in the rONB group, respectively. There were no significant differences in complications, urodynamic profile or ONB continence. A major limitation is the small sample size at a single centre. Conclusion: Posterior support with round ligament for an ONB significantly improved the emptying of the ONB and resulted in a reduced need for CIC. Objectives: To review the clinicopathologic features of perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) of the urinary bladder.Methods: Seven cases of bladder PEComa were studied by light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).Results: In our 7 cases, 5 patients were female and 2 were male, with ages between 26 and 78 years. Patients presented with hematuria and recurrent abdominal discomfort as the main clinical symptoms. Microscopically, the epithelioid and spindle-shaped tumor cells with clear to granular eosinophilic cytoplasm were arranged in fascicular, acinar, or nested patterns. The tumor cells were positive for HMB45, melan-A, and SMA, but no TFE3 gene rearrangement was detected in any of the 7 samples by FISH. The analysis of all 35 cases from the literature and ours showed a patient age range from 16 to 78 years (mean age, 39 years), a male-to-female ratio of 1:1.3, maximal tumor diameters from 0.6 to 18.8 cm (mean, 4.5 cm). With a mean follow-up of 27 months, the recurrence, metastasis, and mortality rates were 10.7%, 10.7%, and 7.1%, respectively.Conclusions: Bladder PEComa is extremely rare, remains a diagnostic challenge, and needs more attention. Biguanides (i.e. metformin, phenformin and buformin) are antidiabetic drugs with potential antitumor effects. Herein, a polycationic polymer, N,N′-bis(cystamine)acrylamide-buformin (CBA-Bu), containing multiple biodegradable disulphide bonds and buformin-mimicking side chains was synthesised. CBA-Bu was equipped with high efficiency and safety profile for gene delivery, meanwhile exhibiting potential antitumor efficacy. As a gene vector, CBA-Bu was able to condense plasmid DNA (pDNA) into nano-sized (<200 nm), positively-charged (>30 mV) uniform polyplexes that were well resistant to heparin and DNase I. Due to the reduction responsiveness of the disulphide bonds, CBA-Bu/pDNA polyplexes could release the loaded pDNA in the presence of dithiothreitol, and induce extremely low cytotoxicity in NIH/3T3 and U87 MG cells. The transfection results showed that CBA-Bu had a cellular uptake efficiency comparable to 25 kDa PEI, while a significantly higher gene expression level. Additionally, CBA-Bu had a lower IC50 value than its non-biguanide counterpart in two cancer cell lines. Furthermore, CBA-Bu could activate AMPK and inhibit mTOR pathways in U87 MG cells, a mechanism involved in the antitumor effect of biguanides. Taken together, CBA-Bu represented an advanced gene vector combining desirable gene delivery capability with potential antitumor activity, which was promising to achieve enhanced therapeutic efficacy in antitumor gene therapy. There is evidence that cadmium can initiate carcinogenesis. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. There is also evidence that moderate centrosome amplification can initiate tumorigenesis. The present study investigated whether cadmium could trigger cell centrosome amplification, and examined the underlying molecular mechanisms. We found that cadmium was able to cause cell centrosome amplification at the subtoxic concentrations, in a dose‐dependent manner. It could cause centrosome amplification via the signaling of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Proteomic analysis revealed that cadmium caused differential expressions of three proteins, which included HSPA1A which is associated with endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. Western blot analysis confirmed that cadmium upregulated HSPA1A. Further analyses showed that cadmium upregulated Bip and decreased the phosphorylation of ASK1 as well as increased the phosphorylation of MKK7 and c‐Jun N‐terminal kinases (JNK). Knockdown of JNK2 using small interfering RNA inhibited the cadmium‐induced centrosome amplification but not the level of ROS. N‐acetylcysteine did not inhibit the cadmium‐activated ER stress pathway. In conclusion, our results suggest that cadmium can induce cell centrosome amplification via ROS as well as ER stress through the Bip–TRAF2–ASK1–MKK7–JNK signaling route, in parallel. As a new desalination technology, capacitive deionization (CDI) has made continuous progress in recent years. This paper explores possible resource utilization channels for corncob waste to prepare capacitive deionized plate materials. Using corncob waste as a matrix, porous materials were prepared by high-temperature insulation from oxygen. The specific surface area of the resulting carbon material was 1,267.9 m2 g-1, and a capacitance of 145.5 F g-1 was achieved in a three-electrode system; the desorption capacity was 16.9 mg g, close to the performance of high-performance materials such as graphene. CDI uses low-cost and waste recycling materials. In the present study, different effects of K2FeO4 and KOH as pore formers on the micro-morphology and chemical structure of the material were compared. The corncob-based carbon materials obtained from K2FeO4 and KOH met the basic requirements of the capacitive deionized plate material, whereas K2FeO4 increased the degree of graphitization of corncob carbon materials; the corncob-based bio char produced from the K2FeO4 pores helped to shorten the time of one adsorption cycle, but the cost is slightly higher than that of the KOH hole. Under different requirements, K2FeO4 and KOH are promising as pore-forming agents for corncob CDI electrodes. The cycling performance verified that the carbon materials prepared in the previous process performed well during the desorption process and recycling process, which can meet the needs of repeated use, and corncob waste is a promising resource for capacitive deionization plate materials. For the safety of the wound-rotor synchronous machine (WRSM) in aircraft applications, the overvoltage at the motor terminals, electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance, and bearing currents as well as the loss analysis are the core areas to be addressed. The high-frequency (HF) modeling method of the WRSM, which has a strong relationship with all these core areas, is a very critical theme. In this paper, a measurement-based wide-frequency (WF) modeling method to characterize the impedance of the WRSM is proposed to build a straightforward correlation between fundamental models and HF parasitic circuit elements. In this paper, the voltage-behind-reactance method is applied to demonstrate the rotor-angle-dependent characters in the low-frequency domain, while the vector fitting method is used to parameterize the HF branch for high-accuracy consideration. By doing this, a WF electrical model with multistage RLC units is formed, which comprehensively considers both the saliency character of the machine and frequency range. The WF model is also compatible with the circuit-based simulation. Finally, the EMI prediction orientated simulation and experimental results are implemented on a 10 kVA WRSM prototype to verify the correctness and advantages of the proposed modeling method. Histamine (HIS) can facilitate the endosomal escape of polyplexes via the 'proton sponge effect' because of its imidazole groups. Agmatine (AGM) can improve the transmembrane process of polyplexes as a result of its guanidinium groups. Therefore, HIS and AGM were used as amino monomers to react with cystamine bisacrylamide (CBA) through Michael addition. The synthesized peptide‐mimicking poly(CBA‐HIS/AGM)s showed high transfection efficiency and low cytotoxicity, indicating their great potential as gene carriers. The results also demonstrated that the effects of HIS and AGM on the properties of poly(CBA‐HIS/AGM)s were different: HIS could increase their buffering capacities and bioreducibility, but AGM could facilitate their plasmid DNA packaging and condensing abilities. The content and kind of trace elements in magnesium alloys have important effects on their ascast and semi-solid microstructures. In this research work, effects of trace Cr on as-cast and semi-solid microstructures of ZC61 magnesium alloy were investigated by metal mold casting and semi-solid isothermal heat treatment. The results show that the addition of Cr can refine the a-Mg phase without generating a new phase, noticeably change the eutectic phase, and decrease the average size of solid particles at the same isothermal heat treatment conditions. Non-dendritic microstructures of all alloys are constituted of a1-Mg phases, a2-Mg phases and eutectic phases after water quenching. With isothermal temperature increased or holding time prolonged, the eutectic microstructure (a-Mg+MgZn2+CuMgZn) at the grain boundaries in as-cast alloy is melted preferentially and then turned into semi-solid non-dendritic microstructure by processes of initial coarsening, microstructure separation, spheroidizing and final coarsening. Especially when the ZC61-0.1Cr alloy was treated at 585 °C for 30 min, the ideal non-dendritic microstructure can be obtained, and the corresponding solid particle size and shape factor were 37.5 µm and 1.33, respectively. The coarsening process of solid a-Mg phase at higher temperature or longer time, which is affected by both combining growth and Ostwald ripening mechanism, is refrained when Cr is added to the ZC61 alloy. Background: The aim was to establish expression profiles of microRNAs (miRNAs) in Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC) and of plasma cytokines from the patients with hepatitis B virus related acute-on-chronic liver failure (HBV-ACLF) and high-risk of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) patients as well as healthy people and to examine the relationships between these profiles and clinical features. Methods: Herein, we collected PBMCs and plasma from peripheral blood of HBV-ACLF and ACLF patients as well as healthy people. Microarray, real-time qPCR, and ELISA assays were used. Results: In this study, we found 39 miRNAs including miR- 146a, miR-150, and miR-29 a downregulated and 5 miRNAs elevated in PBMCs from HBV-ACLF patients compared to healthy controls. However, elevated plasma levels of cytokines such as TNF-α, IFN-α, and TGF-β were found in PBMCs from HB V-ACLF patients compared with the controls, but no significant difference was found between the high-risk and control groups. MiR-146a, miR-150, miR-29a, PTA, and anti-HBc were positively correlated with the survival of ACLF patients, while TNF-α, IFN-α, INR, and TBiL were negatively correlated with the survival of these patients. Conclusions: Combined examination of miRNAs in PBMCs and cytokines in plasma together is a better method for monitoring and evaluating HBV-ACLF patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Guizhi Fuling capsule (GFC), developed from the traditional Chinese prescription of Guizhi Fuling Wan, has been commonly used for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea (PD). However, the intervention effective mechanism in vivo has not been well elucidated. In this study, an integrated plasma metabonomic strategy based on RP‐UPLC‐MS coupled with HILIC‐UPLC‐MS technique has been developed to investigate the global therapeutic effects and intervention mechanisms of GFC on dysmenorrhea rats induced by oxytocin. The 20 potential biomarkers were identified and primarily related to sphingolipid metabolism, steroid hormone biosynthesis, glycerophospholipid metabolism, amino acid metabolism, lipid metabolism and energy metabolism. The results showed that the GFC has therapeutic effects on rats with dysmenorrhea via the regulation of multiple metabolic pathways. Some new potential biomarkers associated with primary dysmenorrhea such as phenylalanine, tryptophan, taurine, carnitine, betaine, creatine and creatinine have been discovered in this study for the first time. This study provides a metabonomic platform based on RP‐UPLC‐MS complementary to HILIC‐UPLC‐MS technique to investigate both nonpolar and polar compounds, so as to get a more comprehensive metabolite information to yield insight into the pathophysiology of PD and assessing the efficacy of GFC on PD rats. Background: Extranodal follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is a very rare malignancy with a variable clinical course. It is often not considered and has the potential to result in a misdiagnosis of other common sarcomas or sarcomatoid carcinomas. This is particularly true with the preoperative biopsy specimen, in which the tissue sample is often small. Case presentation: A case of FDCS in a 63-year-old woman, arising in the urinary bladder, a previously unreported site, is described. The patient presented with the typical clinical symptoms of a bladder cancer and the morphology of the tumor was similar to a lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma, ultimately resulting in it being misdiagnosed. The patient received radical cystectomy, without further radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Two years after operation, a metastatic tumor to the lung was found. The mass of the right main bronchus lumen was frozen and resected through bronchoscopy and radiotherapy was performed. The patient has lived with the tumor since then. Conclusions: This paper presents the first FDCS occurring in the urinary bladder with metastasis to the lung and emphasizes potential diagnostic pitfalls. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The enhancement in biomass production and organic matter removal ofRhodobacter sphaeroides(R. sphaeroides) through iron ions in soybean protein wastewater treatment was investigated. Different dosages of ferric ions were introduced in the reactors under light-anaerobic conditions. Free ferric and ferrous ions in wastewater were formed and their concentrations were the optimal for the growth ofR. sphaeroideswhen the total Fe dosage was 20 mg/L. At the optimal dosage, biomass production (4000 mg/L) and protease activity improved by 50% and 48% when compared to the controls, respectively. The organic matter and protein removal reached above 90% and hydraulic retention time was shortened from 96 to 72 h. A mechanism analysis indicated that iron ions can effectively improve the adenosine triphosphate production, which may furthermore encourage the synthesis of protease and the cellular material. Background: Due to the rising standard of living environment and advances in public health and medical care in China, it has been a tendency in recent years that health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has been increasingly acknowledged in community health management. However, large-scale population-based study on evaluating HQRoL in northeast of China was not conducted. This article aims to investigate the HRQoL in community residents in Northeast China and explore the associated factors.Methods: Stratified multiple-stage sampling method was used in the cross-sectional survey to investigate HRQoL of community residents in northeast of China. Univariate analysis and multiple linear regressions were used to analyze the factors associated to HRQoL of the community residents.Results: The results were confirmed that HRQoL in general population was well performed for the first time in northeast of China in a large scale population. Community residents had better mental health than physical health. The factors influencing HRQoL included gender, age, educational level, marital status, ethnic group, chronic disease status, having breakfast frequency weekly and sleep quality. However, drinking and smoking habits did not affect residents' HRQoL.Conclusions: In this study, the result of the large-scale survey was satisfactory in northeast of China, providing HRQoL status of community residents. Rhodospirillum rubrum has the potential for biomass resource recycling combined with sewage purification. However, low biomass production and yield restricts the potential for sewage purification. This research investigated the improvement of biomass production, yield and organics reduction by Mg2+ in R. rubrum wastewater treatment. Results showed that with optimal dosage (120 mg/L), biomass production reached 4,000 mg/L, which was 1.5 times of that of the control group. Biomass yield was improved by 43.3%. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal reached over 90%. Hydraulic retention time was shortened by 25%. Mechanism analysis indicated that Mg2+ enhanced the isocitrate dehydrogenase and Ca2+/Mg2+-ATPase activities, bacteriochlorophyll content on respiration and photophosphorylation. These effects then enhanced ATP production, which led to more biomass accumulation and COD removal. With 120 mg/L Mg2+ dosage, the isocitrate dehydrogenase and Ca2+/Mg2+-ATPase activities, bacteriochlorophyll content, ATP production were improved, respectively, by 33.3%, 50%, 67%, 41.3% compared to those of the control group. Background: The present study was designed to observe the effects of the bacterial component flagellin on anti-sepsis protection through TLR-5, VCAN and IL-1RN. Methods: A clinically relevant model of sepsis was induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). An in vitro culture of endothelial cells was analyzed. Results: Flagellin induced anti-sepsis protection through inhibition of inflammation and induction of endothelial proliferation by down-regulating the expression of TLR 3, TLR 4, and IL-1RN and promoting the expression of VCAN in mice 24 h post-CLP. In vitro, flagellin promoted the proliferation of endothelial cells. These effects could be inhibited by transfection of endothelial cells with VCAN siRNA or IL-1RN over-expression constructs. VCAN expression decreased after transfection of the cells with an IL-1RN over-expression construct and increased after transfection of the cells with an IL-1RN siRNA construct. IL-1RN expression remained unchanged after transfection of the cells with VCAN over-expression or siRNA constructs. A rapid infusion pump with a maximum flow rate of 6 L/h was designed experimentally using a micro electromagnetic linear actuator, and its effectiveness was evaluated by comparing with that of a commercial Power Infuser under preset flow rates of 0.2, 2, and 6 L/h. The flow rate, air detection sensitivity, occlusion response time, quantitative determination of hemolysis, and power consumption of the infusion devices were extensively investigated using statistical analysis methods (p < 0.05). The experimental results revealed that the flow rate of the designed infusion pump was more stable and accurate, and the hemolysis was significantly less than that of the Power Infuser. The air detection sensitivity and the power consumption could be comparable to that of the Power Infuser except the occlusion response time. The favorable performance made the designed infusion pump a potential candidate for applications in pre-hospital fluid administration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
