Objectives: In this study, we describe the patterns of antibiotic prescription for neonates based on World Health Organization’s (WHO) Essential Medicines List Access, Watch, and Reserve (AWaRe), and the Management of Antibiotic Classification (MAC) Guidelines in China. Methods: One-day point-prevalence surveys (PPS) on antimicrobial prescriptions were conducted on behalf of hospitalized neonates in China from September 1 and November 30, annually from 2017 to 2019. Results: Data was collected for a total of 2674 neonatal patients from 15 hospitals in 9 provinces across China of which 1520 were newborns who received at least one antibiotic agent. A total of 1943 antibiotic prescriptions were included in the analysis. The most commonly prescribed antibiotic was meropenem (11.8%). The most common reason for prescribing antibiotic to neonates was pneumonia (44.2%). There were 419 (21.6%), 1343 (69.1%) and 6 (0.3%) antibiotic prescriptions in the Access, Watch and Reserve groups, respectively. According to MAC Guidelines in China, there were 1090 (56.1%) antibiotic agents in the Restricted and 414 (21.3%) in the Special group. Conclusion: Broad-spectrum antibiotics included in the Watch and Special groups were likely to be overused in Chinese neonates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is known to arise through the pathogenic bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) by interacting with hematopoietic stem cells (HSC). However, due to the strong heterogeneity of MDS patients, it is difficult to find common targets in studies with limited sample sizes. This study aimed to describe sequential molecular changes and identify biomarkers in MSC of MDS transformation. Methods: Multidimensional data from three publicly available microarray and TCGA datasets were analyzed. MDS-MSC was further isolated and cultured in vitro to determine the potential diagnostic and prognostic value of the identified biomarkers. Results: We demonstrated that normal MSCs presented greater molecular homogeneity than MDS-MSC. Biological process (embryonic skeletal system morphogenesis and angiogenesis) and pathways (p53 and MAPK) were enriched according to the differential gene expression. Furthermore, we identified HOXB3 and HOXB7 as potential causative genes gradually upregulated during the normal-MDS-AML transition. Blocking the HOXB3 and HOXB7 in MSCs could enhance the cell proliferation and differentiation, inhibit cell apoptosis and restore the function that supports hematopoietic differentiation in HSCs. Conclusion: Our comprehensive study of gene expression profiling has identified dysregulated genes and biological processes in MSCs during MDS. Fungal infections have emerged as a major concern among immunocompromised patients, causing approximately 2 million deaths each year worldwide. However, the regulatory mechanisms underlying antifungal immunity remain elusive and require further investigation. The E3 ligase Trim26 belongs to the tripartite motif (Trim) protein family, which is involved in various biological processes, including cell proliferation, antiviral innate immunity, and inflammatory responses. Herein, we report that Trim26 exerts protective antifungal immune functions after fungal infection. Trim26-deficient mice are more susceptible to fungemia than their wild-type counterparts. Mechanistically, Trim26 restricts inflammatory neutrophils infiltration and limits proinflammatory cytokine production, which can attenuate kidney fungal load and renal damage during Candida infection. Trim26-deficient neutrophils showed higher proinflammatory cytokine expression and impaired fungicidal activity. We further demonstrated that excessive neutrophils infiltration in the kidney was because of the increased production of chemokines CXCL1 and CXCL2, which are mainly synthesized in the macrophages or dendritic cells of Trim26-deficient mice after Candida albicans infections. Together, our study findings unraveled the vital role of Trim26 in regulating antifungal immunity through the regulation of inflammatory neutrophils infiltration and proinflammatory cytokine and chemokine expression during candidiasis. Concurrently, the emergence of drug-resistant pathogenic fungi poses a serious threat worldwide. Therefore, a better understanding of the mechanisms that protect the host from fungal infections is crucial. Trim26 limits the neutrophils infiltration into the kidneys, which is essential for alleviating kidney immunopathology following Candida albicans infection. Background: Brain metastases (BMs) are the most frequent intracranial tumours associated with poor clinical outcomes. Radiotherapy is essential in the treatment of these tumours, although the optimal radiation strategy remains controversial. The present study aimed to assess whether whole brain radiation therapy with a simultaneous integrated boost (WBRT + SIB) provides any therapeutic benefit over WBRT alone. Methods: We included and retrospectively analysed 82 patients who received WBRT + SIB and 83 who received WBRT alone between January 2012 and June 2021. Intracranial progression-free survival (PFS), local tumour control (LTC), overall survival (OS), and toxicity were compared between the groups. Results: Compared to WBRT alone, WBRT + SIB improved intracranial LTC and PFS, especially in the lung cancer subgroup. Patients with high graded prognostic assessment score or well-controlled extracranial disease receiving WBRT + SIB had improved intracranial PFS and LTC. Moreover, WBRT + SIB also improved the long-term intracranial tumour control of small cell lung cancer patients. When evaluating toxicity, we found that WBRT + SIB might slightly increase the risk of radiation-induced brain injury, and that the risk increased with increasing dosage. However, low-dose WBRT + SIB had a tolerable radiation-induced brain injury risk, which was lower than that in the high-dose group, while it was comparable to that in the WBRT group. Conclusions: WBRT + SIB can be an efficient therapeutic option for patients with BMs, and is associated with improved intracranial LTC and PFS. Furthermore, low-dose WBRT + SIB (biologically effective dose [BED] ≤ 56 Gy) was recommended, based on the acceptable risk of radiation-induced brain injury and satisfactory tumour control. MXenes, as a typical graphene-like material, excels in the realm of humidity sensing owing to its two-dimensional layer structure, high electrical conductivity, tunable chemical properties, hydrophilicity, and large specific surface area. This study proposed a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) humidity sensor using a nanochitin/Ti3C2Tx MXene composite as a humidity-sensing material. The morphology, nanostructure, and elemental composition of nanochitin, Ti3C2Tx MXene, and nanochitin/Ti3C2Tx MXene composite materials were characterized using transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. Compared to the pure Ti3C2Tx MXene-coated QCM humidity sensor, the nanochitin/Ti3C2Tx MXene-coated QCM humidity sensor exhibited a higher sensitivity (20.54 Hz/%RH) in the humidity range of 11.3% to 97.3%. The nanochitin/Ti3C2Tx Mxene-coated QCM humidity sensor also demonstrated low humidity hysteresis (2.12%RH), very fast response/recovery times (4.4/4.1 s), a high quality factor (37 k), and excellent repeatability and sustained stability over time. Eventually, a bimodal exponential kinetics adsorption model was utilized for the analysis of the response mechanism of the nanochitin/Ti3C2Tx MXene composite material-based QCM humidity sensor. Addressing soil pollution by metals and metalloids necessitates innovative and efficient adsorbent materials. This study scrutinizes layered double hydroxides (LDHs) for their structural versatility and enhanced adsorption capabilities, pivotal in soil remediation. The paper systematically explores the structural characteristics, synthesis methods, and modification techniques of LDHs, as well as their interaction mechanisms with diverse metal(loid) species, such as anionic forms (e.g., AsO43−) and oxygenated ions (e.g., CrO42−, MnO4−). It presents a methodical review of the current understanding and progress in soil treatment strategies, emphasizing the application potential of LDHs. Human acellular amniotic membrane (HAAM) has emerged as a promising tool in the field of regenerative medicine, particularly for wound healing and tissue regeneration. HAAM provides a natural biological scaffold with low immunogenicity and good anti-infective and anti-scarring results. Despite its potential, the clinic application of HAAM faces challenges, particularly with respect to the preparation methods and its low mechanical strength. This review provides a comprehensive overview of HAAM, covering its preparation, sterilization, preclinical research, and clinical applications. This review also discusses promising decellularization and sterilization methods, such as Supercritical Carbon Dioxide (SC-CO2), and the need for further research into the regenerative mechanisms of HAAM. In addition, we discuss the potential of HAAM as a skin dressing and cell delivery system in preclinical research and clinical applications. The effects of coiling temperature on microstructure and properties of a Ti–Nb microalloyed high‐speed guardrail steel are investigated. The results show that when the coiling temperature varied from 570 to 670 °C, the optimum comprehensive mechanical properties are obtained at the coiling temperature of 620 °C. The yield strength, tensile strength, and total elongation are 729, 813 MPa, and 11.8%, respectively. The difference in yield strength between the samples at varying coiling temperature is attributed to different strengthening effects of grain refinement, precipitation, and dislocation strengthening, among them the grain refinement and precipitation strengthening contributions are dominating, with contributions of 290 and 186 MPa, respectively, at 620 °C. An axially moving composite cylindrical shallow shell is presented in a wide class of engineering problem, such as the space sailors drag sail mechanism and the deployable antennas. It is very important to have a better understanding of the vibrational characteristics of an axially moving composite cylindrical shallow shell. Nonlinear forced vibrations of an axially moving thin laminated composite cylindrical shallow shell are investigated in the present work. The governing equation and the compatibility equation are derived based on the von Kármán plate theory and discretized by the Galerkin method in a system of ordinary differential equations. The ordinary differential equations are solved by employing the harmonic balance method to obtain the approximate analytical response. Moreover, the stability of the analytical response is also determined. The model is validated by comparing with the natural frequencies available in the literature and the dynamic response obtained through the Runge–Kutta method. Natural frequencies and frequency–response characteristics are discussed in detail. The effects of the movement speed, curvature radius on the natural frequencies are examined. The system has a strong hardening nonlinear behavior and complex dynamic behavior. The frequency–response curve possesses three peaks, due to the strong nonlinear modal coupling. It is further found that the effects of the movement speed, curvature radius, transverse excitation amplitude, damping coefficient and initial tension on the nonlinear dynamic response of an axially moving thin laminated composite cylindrical shallow shell are examined. Acinetobacter baumannii (A. baumannii) is a common nosocomial pathogen associated with serious clinical challenges owing to its rapidly increasing resistance to antibiotics. Due to their high host specificity and easy access to the natural environment, bacteriophages (phages) may serve as good antibacterial agents. Phage therapy has been successfully used to treat antibiotic-resistant A. baumannii infections. As a fundamental step before phage therapy, the characterization and sequencing of A. baumannii phages have been well studied. Until October 2022, 132 A. baumannii phages have been sequenced and studied, with their genomes ranging from 4 to 234 kb, and we summarize the characterized and sequenced A. baumannii phages. This review is a current and short overview that does not go into detail on the A. baumannii phages. Introduction: Body size judgements are frequently biased, or inaccurate, and these errors are further exaggerated for individuals with eating disorders. Within the eating disorder literature, it has been suggested that exaggerated errors in body size judgements are due to difficulties with integration. Across two experiments, we developed a novel integration task, named the Ebbinghaus Illusion for Bodies in Virtual Reality (VR), to assess whether nearby bodies influence the perceived size of a single body. VR was used to simulate the appearance of a small crowd around a central target body. Method and Results: In Experiment 1 (N = 412), participants were required to judge the size of a central female target within a crowd. Experiment 1 revealed an Ebbinghaus Illusion, in which a central female appeared larger when surrounded by small distractors, but comparatively smaller when surrounded by large distractors. In other words, the findings of Experiment 1 demonstrate that surrounding crowd information is integrated when judging an individual's body size; a novel measure of spatial integration (i.e., an Ebbinghaus Illusion for Bodies in VR). In Experiment 2 (N = 96), female participants were selected based on high (n = 43) and low (n = 53) eating disorder symptomatology. We examined whether the magnitude of this illusion would differ amongst those with elevated versus low eating disorder symptomatology, in accordance with weak central coherence theory, with the high symptomatology group displaying less spatial integration relative to the low group. The results of Experiment 2 similarly found an Ebbinghaus Illusion for Bodies in VR. However, illusion magnitude did not vary across high and low symptomatology groups. Discussion: Overall, these findings demonstrate that surrounding crowd information is integrated when judging individual body size; however, those with elevated eating disorder symptomatology did not show any integration deficit on this broader measure of spatial integration. Background: Both internet addiction (IA) and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) are major public health concerns among adolescents, however, the association between IA and NSSI was not well understood. We aimed to investigate the association between IA and NSSI within a cohort study, and explore the mediated effect of depressive symptoms and the moderating effect of social support in the association. Methods: A total of 1530 adolescents aged 11–14 years who completed both the baseline (T1) and 14-month follow-up (T2) survey of the Chinese Adolescent Health Growth Cohort were included for the current analysis. IA, NSSI, depressive symptoms and social support were measured at T1; depressive symptoms and NSSI were measured again at T2. Structural equation models were employed to estimate the mediated effect of depressive symptoms and the moderating effect of social support in the association between IA and NSSI at T2. Results: IA was independently associated with an increased risk of NSSI at T2, with the total effect of 0.113 (95%CI 0.055–0.174). Depressive symptoms mediated the association between IA and NSSI at T2, and social support moderated the indirect but not the direct effect of IA on NSSI at T2. Sex differences were found on the mediated effect of depressive symptoms and the moderated mediation effect of social support. Conclusions: Interventions that target adolescents' NSSI who also struggle with IA may need to focus on reducing depressive symptoms and elevating social support. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Infertility is a common and rapidly growing health issue around the world. The genetic analysis based on the infertile population is crucial for intervention and treatment. Objective: To find candidate gene locus led to azoospermia in Chinese multi-ethnic groups and provide theoretical guidance for the diagnosis of genetic diseases to progressively aggravated infertility patients and sterile offspring with ART. Methods: The study based on whole-exome sequencing (WES) was presented for genetic characteristic analysis of multi-ethnics and identification of variants related to infertility in Xinjiang area of China. Results: The frequency of pathogenic variants showed significant ethnic differences among four main ethnics in Xinjiang. The population structure analysis confirmed that the Hui was close to the Han population, the Kazak was close to the Uygur population, and there are three ancestry components in the four ethnics. In addition, ten candidate variants potentially regulated azoospermia were detected, and KNTC1 (rs7968222: G > T) was chosen to validate the association. Through the analysis in the valid group, the frequency of rs7968222 (G > T) has a significant difference in the azoospermia population (11.76%, 8/68) and normospermia population (4.63%, 35/756) (P < 0.001). Interestingly, the proportion of people with abnormal follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) level in the group carrying rs7968222 (G > T) was significantly higher than non-carriers (P < 0.05). Therefore, rs7968222 may regulate spermatogenesis through affecting hormone level. Conclusion: Our study establishes the genetics analysis of Northwest China and finds a candidate gene locus KNTC1 (rs7968222: G > T), which is one of the genetic susceptibility factors for male azoospermia. Thyroid cancer is a major endocrine tumor and represents an emerging health problem worldwide. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been addressed to participate in the pathogenesis and progression of thyroid cancer. However, it remains largely unknown what functions miR-30d may exert on thyroid cancer. This study, herein, aimed to identify the functional significance and machinery of miR-30d in the progression of thyroid cancer. MiR-30b presented aberrant low expression and ubiquitin-specific protease 22 (USP22) exhibited aberrant high expression in thyroid cancer tissues and cells. The current study proposed the possible machinery that miR-30d could target and negatively regulate USP22. Additionally, USP22 could enhance the stability of SIRT1 by inducing deubiquitination which consequently contributed to FOXO3a deacetylation-induced PUMA repression. Responding to the gain- or loss-of-function of miR-30d and/or USP22, behaviors of thyroid cancer cells were altered. Accordingly, miR-30d inhibited proliferation and promoted apoptosis of thyroid cancer cells by suppressing USP22 through SIRT1/FOXO3a/PUMA axis. The effects of miR-30d and USP22-mediated SIRT1/FOXO3a/PUMA axis on thyroid tumorigenesis were finally validated in murine models. We ultimately confirmed the anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic effect of miR-30d via suppressing USP22 through in vivo findings. Conclusively, our findings highlight that the occurrence and progression of thyroid cancer can be suppressed by miR-30d-mediated inhibition of USP22 via the SIRT1/FOXO3a/PUMA axis, which provides a attractive therapeutic target for thyroid cancer treatment. Bitterness is one of the basic tastes, and sensing bitterness plays a significant role in mammals recognizing toxic substances. The bitter taste of food and oral medicines may decrease consumer compliance. As a result, many efforts have been made to mask or decrease the bitterness in food and oral pharmaceutical products. The detection of bitterness is critical to evaluate how successful the taste-masking technology is, and many novel taste-sensing systems have been developed on the basis of various interaction mechanisms. In this review, we summarize the progress of bitterness response mechanisms and the development of novel sensors in detecting bitterness ranging from commercial electronic devices based on modified electrodes to micro-type sensors functionalized with taste cells, polymeric membranes, and other materials in the last two decades. Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease that may lead to bone erosion and disability. Although there are many biological therapies in RA treatment nowadays, such as etanercept and tofacitinib, there are still a considerable number of patients who cannot achieve clinical deep remission, which makes patients feel pain and stiffness of joints. As a traditional Chinese medicine preparation, Wangbi granule showed a synergistic role with methotrexate in the treatment of RA patients with "kidney deficiency and dampness" or "stasis blocking channels". Therefore, it is a promising therapeutic strategy for the clinical deep remission of RA. In this study, Wangbi granule will be used as the test drug. The investigators conduct this study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Wangbi granule in the treatment of patients who have not achieved deep remission despite the use of methotrexate and tofacitinib. Methods and analysis: Two parallel randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled trials will be conducted. In six study centers, 340 eligible RA patients will be recruited and randomly allocated to either the intervention group or the control group (in a 1:1 ratio). They will receive Wangbi granule or Wangbi placebo 12.0 g each time, three times a day for 12 weeks. The primary outcome is the disease activity score derivative for 28 joints (DAS28). Secondary outcomes are patient-reported outcomes, American College of Rheumatology 50% response criteria (ACR50), fatigue scale-14 (FS-14), visual analogue scale for pain (VAS), health assessment questionnaire disability index (HAQ-DI) and biomarkers such as C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). Expected outcomes: The success of this study will provide strong evidence to confirm the efficacy and safety of Wangbi granule in the treatment of RA. Sponge City, as a new concept in urban stormwater management, utilizes on-site or local hydrologic processes for runoff control and therefore is highly dependent on the geographical location (soil type) and site-specific climatic conditions. Field studies are valuable because of the insufficient quantity of field performance data in low-impact development (LID)-related research. Rain gardens are recommended for LID to manage stormwater. A rain garden was designed as a pilot project in Nanchang city, which is one of the typical red soil areas in southern China. Red soil is usually not conducive to runoff infiltration due to its low organic carbon, strong acidity and low permeability rainfall characteristics, but the permeability of the filter media layer is an important parameter in LID design. The construction depth of the rainwater garden was 600 mm, and 30% sand, 10% compost and 60% laterite were used as combined matrix; the permeability coefficient of medium layer was 1.48 × 10−5 m·s−1. Rainfall runoff control and pollutant removal efficiencies were studied based on the on-site conditions. The analysis of almost 2 years of field data showed that volume capture ratio of annual rainfall was 78.9%, the mean load removal of TSS, NH3-N, TP, TN, COD and NO3-N were 92.5%, 85.3%, 82.9%, 80.5%, 79.8% and 77.5%, respectively, which could meet the technical guidelines for sponge city construction in Nanchang. Our previous phase Ib trial (NCT03222440) showed that radiotherapy plus the anti–PD-1 antibody camrelizumab is a safe and feasible first-line therapy for locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. In this study, we divided peripheral CD8 T-cell differentiation subsets into 4 subpopulations (naive T cells, central memory T cells, effector memory T cells, and CD45RA+ effector memory T cells). We then investigated the influence of radiotherapy plus camrelizumab therapy on the proportions of the 4 subsets and their PD-1, TIGIT, and CTLA-4 expression as well as their proliferative activity and compared the effects with those of concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Nineteen and 15 patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who received radiotherapy plus camrelizumab therapy and concurrent chemoradiotherapy, respectively, were enrolled in this study. We isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells from these patients before treatment and longitudinally after the delivery of 40 Gy radiotherapy. Flow cytometry was conducted to detect peripheral CD8 T-cell subsets and PD-1, TIGIT, CTLA-4, and Ki67 expression levels in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. We found that radiotherapy plus camrelizumab therapy did not change the proportions of the 4 subsets or the expression of CTLA-4, but this therapy decreased PD-1 expression by the 4 subsets and TIGIT expression by effector memory T cells, as well as significantly enhanced the proliferative activity of CD8 T cells, whereas concurrent chemoradiotherapy produced different effects. Research has shown that body size judgements are frequently biased, or inaccurate. Critically, judgement biases are further exaggerated for individuals with eating disorders, a finding that has been attributed to difficulties integrating body features into a perceptual whole. However, current understanding of which body features are integrated when judging body size is lacking. In this study, we examine whether individuals integrate three-dimensional (3D) cues to body volume when making body size judgements. Computer-generated body stimuli were presented in a 3D Virtual Reality environment. Participants (N = 412) were randomly assigned to one of the two conditions: in one condition, the to-be-judged body was displayed binocularly (containing 3D cues to body volume); in the other, bodies were presented monocularly (two-dimensional [2D] cues only). Across 150 trials, participants were required to make a body size judgement of a target female body from a third-person point of view using an unmarked visual analogue scale (VAS). It was found that 3D cues significantly influenced body size judgements. Namely, thin 3D bodies were judged smaller, and overweight 3D bodies were judged larger, than their 2D counterpart. Furthermore, to reconcile these effects, we present evidence that the two perceptual biases, regression to the mean and serial dependence, were reduced by the additional 3D feature information. Lithological mapping using dual-polarization synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data is limited by the low classification accuracy. In this study, we extract ten parameters (backscatter coefficients and polarization decomposition parameters) from the Sentinel-1 dual-pol SAR data. Using 94 mother wavelet functions (MF), a one-level two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is applied to all the parameters, and the suitable MF is screened by comparing the overall accuracy and F1 score. Finally, the lithological mapping of the study area is performed. According to the cross-validation results, DWT can improve the overall accuracy for all MF. Db13 improved the overall accuracy by 6.1% (from 49.5% to 55.6%). The F1 score of granitoids improved by 0.223. Among the five rock units, Grantoids and Quaternary alluvium and sediment with finer gravel can be better differentiated than the other three rock units. Background: PD‐1/PD‐L1 tumor immunotherapy shows effective anticancer in treatment of solid tumors, so PEI lipid nanoparticles (PEI‐LNP)/siRNA complex (EPV‐PEI‐LNP‐SiRNA) with the therapeutic function of PD‐L1‐siRNA and EGFR short peptide/PD‐L1 double immune‐enhancing function were constructed for the prevention and treatment of EGFR‐positive lung cancer in this study. Method: In this study, PEI lipid nanoparticles (PEI‐LNP)/siRNA complex (EPV‐PEI‐LNP‐siRNA) with the therapeutic function of PD‐L1‐siRNA and EGFR short peptide/PD‐L1 double immune‐enhancing function were constructed for the prevention and treatment of EGFR‐positive lung cancer and functional evaluation was conducted. Results: On the basis of the construction of the composite nano‐drug delivery system, the binding capacity, cytotoxicity, apoptosis and uptake capacity of siRNA and EPV‐PEI‐LNP were tested in vitro, and the downregulation effect of PD‐L1 on A549 cancer cells and the cytokine levels of cocultured T cells were tested. Lipid nanoparticles delivered siRNA and EGFR short peptide vaccine to non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), increasing tumor invasion and activation of CD8 + T cells. Combination therapy is superior to single target therapy. The effects of strain on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 0.81C-0.22Si-0.31Mn (wt%) high-carbon steel were investigated by thermal simulation, scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and an electron backscatter diffractometer (EBSD). It was found that when the steel was deformed at 670 °C (a temperature between A1 and Ar1), a deformation-induced pearlite transformation and cementite spheroidization occurred. The volume fraction of pearlite and the spheroidization ratio of cementite increased with a strain increase from 20% to 75%. The microstructure mainly consisted of pearlite when the deformation strain exceeded 40%. The aspect ratio was at its maximum (5.3) at 40% strain and decreased to 1.4 at 75% strain. In addition, the strength of the steel decreased and the elongation increased rapidly with the increase in strain from 20% to 60% due to the spheroidization of cementite. However, as the strain further increased to 75%, the strength increased slightly due to the refinement of the ferrite matrix. An experimental study on the surface texturization of diamond wire sawn multi-crystalline silicon (DWS mc-Si) wafers by acid vapor etching followed by acid solution post-treatment was carried out. The vapor composition, vapor etching time and the acid solution post-treatment time were optimized based on the surface morphology and reflectance measurement of DWS mc-Si wafers. It is found that acid vapor etching could effectively remove the sawn marks generated by surface cutting and produce micro-pits on the surface, which were the "start etching points" of subsequent acid solution texturization. The uniformity of the surface structure of silicon wafer was greatly improved by adjusting the proportion of acid vapor source, vapor etching time and subsequent solution processing time. An optimized average reflectance of 18.6 % between 400 nm and 1100 nm was achieved, which was expected to be used in the industrial production of high-efficiency solar cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

C1q/tumor necrosis factor‐related protein 9 (CTRP9) has been identified as a novel anti‐inflammatory factor that participates in numerous pathological conditions. However, whether CTRP9 participates in the regulation of osteoarthritis has not been studied. This work sought to determine the possible role of CTRP9 in osteoarthritis using an in vitro model, namely interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β)‐stimulated chondrocytes. There was a decreased level of CTRP9 in chondrocytes after IL‐1β stimulation. CTRP9 upregulation dramatically repressed IL‐1β‐evoked apoptosis and inflammatory response in cultured chondrocytes. The mechanistic investigation revealed that CTRP9 overexpression restrained the activation of the nucleotide‐binding oligomerization domain‐like receptor 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome in IL‐1β‐stimulated chondrocytes via the adiponectin receptor 1 (AdipoR1)/adenosine monophosphate‐activated protein kinase (AMPK) axis. Notably, inhibition of AdipoR1 or AMPK abolished the regulatory effects of CTRP9 overexpression on IL‐1β‐evoked apoptosis and inflammasome activation. Overall, the results of this work delineate that CTRP9 protects cultured chondrocytes from IL‐1β‐induced inflammatory injury by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation via the AdipoR1/AMPK axis. Background: In the first weeks after birth, enteral feeding and bacterial colonization interact to influence gut maturation in preterm infants. Bovine colostrum (BC) has been suggested as a relevant supplementary diet when own mother's milk (MM) is insufficient or absent. This pilot trial tests whether the supplement type, BC or donor human milk (DM), affects gut colonization in preterm infants during the first week of life. Methods: On day 7, fecal samples were collected from preterm infants (n = 24) fed BC or DM as a supplement to MM. The gut microbiome (GM) was analyzed by 16S ribosomal RNA amplicon sequencing. Correlations between the relative abundance of specific bacterial taxa and blood chemistry variables, including amino acids, were explored. Results: BC‐supplemented infants showed a lower relative abundance of the families Lactobacillaceae and Enterococcaceae than DM infants. Planococcaceae were more abundant in infants delivered by cesarean birth vs vaginally. The relative abundance of bacterial families, specifically Enterobacteriaceae, correlated negatively with plasma levels of multiple essential and nonessential amino acids (valine, isoleucine, lysine, histidine, and arginine). Conclusion: The nature of nutrition supplements (BC or DM) just after birth may affect GM development and nutrient metabolism in the neonatal period of preterm infants. The seasonal and spatial variation in the phytoplankton community structure and the environmental variables were investigated in December (the dry season) 2016 and July (the rainy season) 2017 in the Jinjiang River Estuary, China. We identified a total of 138 species of phytoplankton, which were mainly Chlorophyta, Bacillariophyta, and Cryptophyta in the dry season; however, in the rainy season, only Bacillariophyta were found. In the Jinjiang River Estuary, the species evenness and the biodiversity index were higher in the rainy season and that the species diversity was higher in the dry season. Redundancy analysis (RDA) revealed that the dominant species were statistically related to many of the environmental variables, including the water temperature (WT), pH, salinity (Sal), dissolved oxygen (DO), total phosphorus (TP), and total nitrogen (TN). Among the variables, the Sal, DO, TP, and TN had a significant influence on the dominant species distribution, and the WT and pH also affected the dominant species distribution to some extent. Background: Providing students with virtual role-play experiences has the potential to bring counseling role-plays into large undergraduate courses. Objective: The purpose of this study was to trial a virtual reality role-play experience where students played the role of a student counsellor. Method: Seventy-three undergraduate psychology students played the role of a student counsellor interacting with a virtual client in two role-plays, one via desktop and one via head mounted display (HMD). Students provided feedback on their experience. Results: 70% of the students found the experiences very interesting, engaging and immersive, with 82% preferring the HMD mode of presentation. The virtual characters were believable as distressed clients with 96% of students perceiving greater negative than positive emotion expressed by the characters. Most of the students (64%) mood improved from the beginning of the experience to the end, however 14% experienced a decline in mood. The students agreed (95%) that the experiences would be a valuable experience to a psychology course. Conclusion: Our results provide evidence that the virtual role-play experiences are well-liked by students. Teaching Implications: The approach presented in this paper represents a practical method to provide virtual role-play experiences to both on-campus and online undergraduate students. Recently reported peptidomimetics with increased resistance to trypsin were shown to sensitize priority multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria to novobiocin and rifampicin. To further optimize proteolytic stability, β-amino acid-containing derivatives of these compounds were prepared, resulting in three dioctanoyl ultrashort tetrabasic β-peptides (dUSTBβPs). The nonhemolytic dUSTBβP 3, comprised of three β3-homoarginine residues and two fatty acyl tails eight carbons long, enhanced the antibacterial activity of various antibiotics from different classes. Notably, compound 3 retained the ability to potentiate novobiocin and rifampicin in wild-type Gram-negative bacteria against MDR clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Acinetobacter baumannii , Escherichia coli , Klebsiella pneumoniae , and Enterobacter cloacae. dUSTBβP 3 reduced the minimum inhibitory concentration of novobiocin and rifampicin below their interpretative susceptibility breakpoints. Furthermore, compound 3 exhibited improved in vitro stability (86.8 ± 3.7% remaining) relative to its α-amino acid-based counterpart (39.5 ± 7.4% remaining) after a 2 h incubation in human plasma. Purpose: The aim of the study was to compare the clinical outcomes of induction chemotherapy (IC) followed by definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (dCCRT) versus chemoradiotherapy alone in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) on the basis of a clinical scoring model. Methods: A retrospective review of 599 patients with ESCC treated with dCCRT at our institution from 2010 to 2019 was conducted. The patients were divided into two groups based on whether they received IC. A clinical scoring model was performed using the significant variables obtained from the multivariate analysis. The PFS and OS rates were estimated using the Kaplan–Meier method. Results: During the study period, 182 patients receiving IC followed by dCCRT and 417 dCCRT alone were identified. No significant differences in the PFS and OS rates were observed between the IC group (P=0.532) and the non-IC group (P=0.078). A clinical scoring model was constructed based on independent prognostic factors with scores ranging from 0 to 10.4. The patients were divided into high- and low-risk groups by using the median score as the cutoff value. The PFS rate of patients receiving IC was higher than that of patients treated without IC (P=0.034), while there was no improvement in the OS rate (P=0.794) in the high-risk group. No significant differences in the PFS (P=0.207) or OS (P=0.997) rate were found between the two treatment groups in the low-risk group. Conclusions: The addition of IC followed by dCCRT for patients with ESCC might be associated with better PFS rates based on a clinical scoring model but has no impact on OS rates. Objectives: Human milk (HM) is the optimal diet for neonates, but it does not provide enough nutrients for preterm infants. HM fortifiers based on highly processed mature bovine milk (BMFs) are routinely used for preterm infants despite risks of causing gut dysfunction and systemic infection. Gently‐processed bovine colostrum as a fortifier (BCF) may better protect against infection and inflammation. We hypothesized that BCF‐fortified HM has enhanced antimicrobial activity against pathogens that commonly cause neonatal sepsis, relative to BMF‐fortified HM. Methods: Holder‐pasteurized HM samples (10 mothers) were aliquoted into 3 fractions: unfortified HM and HM fortified with either BMF or BCF. The samples were analyzed for pH, lactoferrin concentrations, and antimicrobial activities against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, and Enterococcus faecalis. Results: HM+BCF had a lower pH and higher lactoferrin levels than HM+BMF, with HM being intermediate. Relative to infant formula, HM decreased the growth of S epidermidis, E coli, and E faecalis, with no difference between preterm and term HM. Addition of BMF abolished the antimicrobial effect of HM against S epidermidis and E faecalis but not E coli. By contrast, addition of BCF into HM enhanced antimicrobial activity against S epidermidis and E coli, relative to unfortified HM. HM+BCF was superior to HM+BMF in inhibiting growth of all tested bacteria. Conclusion: BMF fortification decreased whereas BCF fortification enhanced in vitro antimicrobial activity of HM. This effect may partly be derived from the high levels of antimicrobial factors found in BCF, including lactoferrin. BCF may be a better fortifier than BMF for preterm infants. Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a crucial class of regulatory RNAs in cancer procession, including papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Circ-Pumilio 1 (circPUM1) is a novel circRNA with the oncogenic function in ovarian cancer and lung cancer. However, the role of circPUM1 in PTC is undiscovered. Objective: This study was performed to investigate the biological function and molecular mechanism of circPUM1 in PTC. Methods: CircPUM1 and microRNA-21-5p (miR-21-5p) levels were analyzed via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Cellular viability and metastasis were measured using Cell Counting Kit 8 (CCK-8) and transwell migration/invasion assay. Glycolysis was evaluated by glucose uptake and lactate production. Associated proteins were examined applying with western blot. Dual-luciferase reporter assay and RNA pull-down assay were used to analyze the interaction between circPUM1 or mitogen-activated protein kinase 1 (MAPK1) and miR-21-5p. Moreover, the role of circPUM1 in vivo was explored by xenograft tumor experiment. Results: Significantly, circPUM1 was upregulated in PTC tissue samples and cells. Cell growth, metastasis and glycolytic process of PTC cells were all inhibited after downregulation of circPUM1. Besides, circPUM1 could sponge miR-21-5p and MAPK1 was a target gene of miR-21-5p. Furthermore, we found that the anti-cancer effect of circPUM1 knockdown on PTC was partly ascribed to MAPK1 downregulation by upregulating miR-21-5p. Silencing circPUM1 also impeded tumorigenesis of PTC in vivo via miR-21-5p/MAPK1 axis. Conclusion: These findings suggested that circPUM1 knockdown inhibited MAPK1 expression by targeting miR-21-5p, consequently leading to the repressive effect on PTC progression. Background: Antenatal corticosteroids (ACS) treatment is critical to support survival and lung maturation in preterm infants, however, its effect on feeding and growth is unclear. Prior preterm delivery, it remains uncertain whether ACS treatment should be continued if possible (repeated course ACS), until a certain gestational age is reached. We hypothesized that the association of single-course ACS with feeding competence and postnatal growth outcomes might be different from that of repeated course ACS in very-low-birth-weight preterm infants.Methods: A multicenter retrospective cohort study was conducted in very-low-birth-weight preterm infants born at 23-37 weeks' gestation in South China from 2011 to 2014. Data on growth, nutritional and clinical outcomes were collected. Repeated course ACS was defined in this study as two or more courses ACS (more than single-course). Infants were stratified by gestational age (GA), including GA < 28 weeks, 28 weeks ≤ GA < 32 weeks and 32 weeks ≤ GA < 37 weeks. Multiple linear regression and multilevel model were applied to analyze the association of ACS with feeding and growth outcomes.Results: A total of 841 infants were recruited. The results, just in very-low-birth-weight preterm infants born at 28-32 weeks' gestation, showed both single and repeated course of ACS regimens had shorter intubated ventilation time compared to non-ACS regimen. Single-course ACS promoted the earlier application of amino acid and enteral nutrition, and higher rate of weight increase (15.71; 95%CI 5.54-25.88) than non-ACS after adjusting for potential confounding factors. No associations of repeated course ACS with feeding, mean weight and weight increase rate were observed.Conclusions: Single-course ACS was positively related to feeding and growth outcomes in very-low-birth-weight preterm infants born at 28-32 weeks' gestation. The A20‐binding inhibitor of nuclear factor (NF)‐κB‐1 (ABIN‐1) protein has recently been implicated as a key regulator of inflammation with involvement in multiple inflammatory diseases. However, the function of ABIN‐1 in osteoarthritis (OA) remains unclear. In the current study, we explored the role of ABIN‐1 in the regulation of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐induced inflammatory injury of chondrocytes, which served as an in vitro model of OA. Results revealed that ABIN‐1 expression was induced by chondrocyte exposure to LPS. ABN‐1 silencing exacerbated LPS‐induced apoptosis and the inflammatory response, while ABIN‐1 overexpression alleviated the inflammatory response and LPS‐induced apoptosis in chondrocytes. Moreover, ABIN‐1 overexpression resulted in significantly decreased LPS‐induced NF‐κB activation. Notably, activation of NF‐κB signalling significantly reversed ABIN‐1‐mediated inhibitory effects on LPS‐induced inflammatory injury in chondrocytes. Taken together, these results demonstrate that ABIN‐1 protects chondrocytes against LPS‐induced inflammatory injury through the suppression of NF‐κB signalling. The type VI secretion system (T6SS) is a toxic effector delivery apparatus widely distributed in Gram-negative bacteria. The opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa encodes three T6SSs, namely H1-, H2-, and H3-T6SS. Each T6SS possesses its own effectors and their roles are not yet fully understood. Here, we report that an H3-T6SS deletion mutant PAO1(Δ clpV3) significantly affected the virulence-related phenotypes including pyocyanin production, biofilm formation, proteolytic activity, and motilities. Most interestingly, the expression of T3SS genes was markedly affected, indicating a link between H3-T6SS and T3SS. RNA-Sequencing was performed to globally identify the genes differentially expressed when H3-T6SS was inactivated and the results obtained correlated well with the observed phenotypes. Interestingly, the expressions of T2SS, T3SS, H2-T6SS, and H3-T6SS were all significantly decreased, while H1-T6SS was increased in the PAO1(Δ clpV3) strain. We also observed that the intracellular concentration of secondary messenger cAMP was reduced in PAO1(Δ clpV3), and the c-di-GMP level was also decreased as indicated by the decreased cdrA reporter activity. Finally, by using a Galleria mellonella infection model, we show that H3-T6SS plays a key role in the pathogenicity of P. aeruginosa in vivo. To explore the risk factors of thrombosis in patients with JAK2V617F‐mutated myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), a cohort of 1537 Chinese patients with JAK2V617F‐mutated MPN was retrospectively analyzed. The Kaplan‐Meier method and multivariate Cox analysis were used to study the risk factors of thrombosis in patients with JAK2V617F‐mutated MPN. Among the 1537 MPN patients, 931, 468, and 138 had polycythemia vera (PV), essential thrombocythemia (ET), and primary myelofibrosis (PMF), respectively. The median follow‐up time was 7 years (range 1‐47), and 12.8% of patients (197/1537) died during this period. A total of 16.8% (259/1399) of PV and ET patients had secondary myelofibrosis, and 2.5% (38/1537) of patients developed acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Thrombotic events occurred in 43.9% (675/1537) of patients, among which 91.4% (617/675) were arterial thrombosis and 16.6% (112/675) were venous thrombosis. The number of thrombotic events in PV, ET, and PMF patients was 439 (47.2%), 197 (42.1%) and 39 (28.2%), respectively. The multivariate analysis indicated that age ≥60 years old, HCT ≥48%, at least one cardiovascular risk factor, a history of thrombosis, and JAK2V617F allele burden (V617F%) ≥50% are risk factors for thrombosis in JAK2V617F‐mutated MPN. According to the results of the multivariate analysis, a risk model of thrombosis was established and comprised low‐risk (0 points), intermediate‐risk (1 points) and high‐risk (≥2 points) groups, among which the incidence of thrombosis was 9.1%, 33.7% and 72.9%. For elderly patients with JAK2V617F‐mutated MPN and a history of thrombosis, reducing the V617F%, controlling HCT and preventing cardiovascular risk factors are necessary measures to prevent thrombosis. Objectives: Maternal milk is often absent or in limited supply just after preterm birth. Many preterm infants are therefore fed infant formula as their first enteral feed despite an increased risk of feeding intolerance, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and infection. Using preterm pigs as a model for preterm infants, we hypothesized that bovine colostrum given before or after formula feeding would alleviate formula-induced detrimental effects during the first days after preterm birth. Methods: A total of 74 preterm pigs received gradually increasing volumes of formula (F) or bovine colostrum (C) until day 5, when they were euthanized or transitioned to either C or F for another 4 days, resulting in six groups: C or F until day 5 (C5, F5, n = 11 each), C or F until day 9 (CC, FF n = 12–13 each), C followed by F (CF, n = 14), and F followed by C (FC, n = 13). Results: Systemically, colostrum feeding stimulated circulating neutrophil recruitment on day 5 (C5 vs. F5, P < 0.05). Relative to initial formula feeding, initial colostrum feeding promoted the development of systemic immune protection as indicated by a decreased T-helper cell population and an increased regulatory T-cell population (CC + CF vs. FC + FF, P < 0.01). In the gut, colostrum feeding improved intestinal parameters such as villus heights, enzymes, hexose absorption, colonic goblet cell density, and decreased the incidence of severe NEC (27 vs. 64%), diarrhea (16 vs. 49%), and gut permeability on day 5, coupled with lowered expression of LBP, MYD88, IL8, HIF1A , and CASP3 (C5 vs. F5, all P < 0.05). On day 9, the incidence of severe NEC was similarly low across groups (15–21%), but diarrhea resistance and intestinal parameters were further improved by colostrum feeding, relative to exclusive formula feeding (CC, CF, or FC vs. FF, respectively, all P < 0.05). The expression of MYD88 and CASP3 remained downregulated by exclusive colostrum feeding (CC vs. FF, P < 0.01) and colostrum before or after formula feeding down regulated HIF1A and CASP3 expression marginally. Conclusion: Colostrum feeding ameliorated detrimental effects of formula feeding on systemic immunity and gut health in preterm newborns, especially when given immediately after birth. Bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) play a critical role in multiple myeloma (MM) pathogenesis by cell contact, and secretion of cytokines, growth factors and extracellular vesicles. Exosomes are secreted by almost all cell types and are recently reported to mediate local cell-to-cell cross-talk by transferring messenger RNAs, LncRNAs, and proteins. Compelling studies have identified BMSC-derived exosomes induce proliferation, migration, survival, and drug resistance of MM cells. However, whether MM cell-derived exosome also plays a role in function in BMSC remains unclear. Here we investigated the effect of MM cell-derived exosomes on the interleukin (IL)-6 secretion and osteoblastic differentiation capability of BMSC from patients with MM. Furthermore we investigated the IL-6 secretion relative regulation protein APE1 and NF-kB and osteoblastic differentiation protein Runx2 (runt-related gene 2), Osterix and osteocalcin (OCN). Our results showed that MM cell-derived exosomes promoted IL-6 secretion and suppressed osteoblastic differentiation and mineralization of BMSCs. Mechanistically, we demonstrated that MM cell-derived exosomes lead to an increase in APE1 and NF-kB and a reduction in Runx2, Osterix and OCN in BMSCs. The high prevalence of sleep disruption among older adults may have implications for cognitive aging, particularly for higher-order aspects of cognition. Community-dwelling older adults (55-93 years, N = 133) undertook assessment of sleep using actigraphy and participated in a laboratory-based prospective memory task. After controlling for education, sleep disruption (longer awakenings) was associated with poorer prospective memory. Additionally, longer awakenings mediated the relationship between older age and poorer prospective memory. Other metrics of sleep disruption, including sleep efficiency and wake after sleep onset, were not related to prospective memory, suggesting that examining the features of individual wake episodes rather than total wake time may help clarify relationships between sleep and cognition. The mediating role of awakening length was partially a function of greater depression and poorer executive function (shifting) but not retrospective memory. This study is among the first to examine the association between objectively measured sleep and prospective memory in older adults. Furthermore, this study is novel in suggesting sleep disruption might contribute to age-related prospective memory deficits; perhaps, with implications for cognitive aging more broadly. Background: Transition to enteral feeding is difficult for very low-birth-weight (VLBW; ≤1500 g) infants, and optimal nutrition is important for clinical outcomes.Method: Data on feeding practices and short-term clinical outcomes (growth, necrotizing enterocolitis [NEC], mortality) in VLBW infants were collected from 13 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in 5 continents (n = 2947). Specifically, 5 NICUs in Guangdong province in China (GD), mainly using formula feeding and slow feeding advancement (n = 1366), were compared with the remaining NICUs (non-GD, n = 1581, Oceania, Europe, United States, Taiwan, Africa) using mainly human milk with faster advancement rates.Results: Across NICUs, large differences were observed for time to reach full enteral feeding (TFF; 8-33 days), weight gain (5.0-14.6 g/kg/day), ∆z-scores (-0.54 to -1.64), incidence of NEC (1%-13%), and mortality (1%-18%). Adjusted for gestational age, GD units had longer TFF (26 vs 11 days), lower weight gain (8.7 vs 10.9 g/kg/day), and more days on antibiotics (17 vs 11 days; all P < .001) than non-GD units, but NEC incidence and mortality were similar.Conclusion: Feeding practices for VLBW infants vary markedly around the world. Use of formula and long TFF in South China was associated with more use of antibiotics and slower weight gain, but apparently not with more NEC or higher mortality. Both infant- and hospital-related factors influence feeding practices for preterm infants. Background: Very preterm infants (< 32 weeks gestation) have a relatively high nutrient requirement for growth and development. The composition of human milk is often inadequate to ensure optimal growth so it is common to fortify human milk for very preterm infants with nutrient fortifiers based on bovine milk. However, there are concerns that bovine milk-based fortifiers may increase the risk of feeding intolerance, necrotizing enterocolitis and late-onset sepsis. We hypothesize that a bovine colostrum-based product is a suitable alternative to bovine milk-based products when used as a fortifier to human milk in very preterm infants.Methods/design: In an open-label multicentre randomised controlled pilot trial, 200 very preterm infants (26 + 0 to 30 + 6 weeks gestation at birth) will be randomly allocated to a bovine colostrum-based or a bovine milk-based fortifier added to mother's own milk and/or human donor milk. Outcomes are growth rate, incidence of necrotizing enterocolitis and late-onset sepsis, a series of paraclinical endpoints, and practical feasibility of using the novel fortifier for very preterm infants.Discussion: The optimal enteral diet and feeding regimen for very preterm infants remain debated; this clinical trial will document the feasibility, safety and preliminary efficacy of using bovine colostrum, rich in nutrients and bioactive factors, as a novel fortifier for human milk to very preterm infants. In this paper, a sputtered Ge transition layer between Mo and flexible titanium substrate was used to regulate the residual stress of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSSe) thin film. 15 nm thick Ge transition layer was proved to be the optimum thickness. A clear residual stress reduction from 3.26 to 0.57 GPa occurred after adding the optimized transition layer, which could be largely attributed to the relieved mismatch of Mo and titanium substrate. It was also found that the transition Ge layer about 15 nm could effectively enhance the crystal quality, grain size and compactness of CZTSSe thin film. However, further increased thickness beyond 15 nm was detrimental for solar cell application due to the increased residual stress. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed the transition layer did not diffuse into CZTSSe absorber during selenization process. The tape test revealed that 96.7% area of the film were still remained for the optimized CZTSSe thin film. After 100 bending tests, the cell attenuation with 15 nm Ge transition layer was 51% less than that without Ge transition layer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
