Nowadays, there is no precedent for building a high-speed railway in diatomite area. Due to the complex structure and poor mechanical properties of diatomite as well as the lack of relevant engineering experience, more attention has been paid to the proper constitutive model of the tunnel in diatomite layer using the numerical calculation method, while the traditional Elastoplastic calculation model is the most used yet. Therefore, relying on the Feifengshan tunnel, through FLAC3D software as well as the on-site monitoring, the analysis of the settlement law about tunnelling in diatomite stratum is carried out based on different constitutive models. The research results show that diatomite has obvious strain-softening characteristics. The calculated surface settlement and vault settlement based on the Strain Softening model is greater than that based on the Mohr Coulomb model. When compared with the on-site monitoring data, it is found that the Strain Softening model would more accurately show the settlement law of the tunnel in diatomite and has better applicability in the diatomite area. The above-mentioned research results may provide some references for the construction and design of tunnels in similar strata in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In addition to direct thermal energy from a heating source, a large amount of thermal energy stored in clothing will continuously discharge to the skin after exposure. Therefore, thermal protective clothing may have a dual effect on human skin in reality. An experimental investigation was conducted to study the energy storage within 15 different combinations of clothing layers exposed to low heat fluxes ranging from 2.5 kW/m2 to 8.5 kW/m2. The energy storage process, the distribution of energy storage, and variables critically impacting energy storage, including fabric layers, air gap under clothing, thermal resistance and heat source intensity were discussed. It is demonstrated that the weight and thickness of the fabric are dominating factors affecting energy storage. For a multilayer fabric system, 36–57% of the total amount of energy is stored in the outer shell. The neighboring layer proves to be very important for the energy storage in an individual fabric. The air gap that exists between the fabric and the skin exerts an influence on the energy storage within fabric layers. In addition, a linear correlation is observed between the energy storage and the total thermal resistance of a fabric system. The research findings will be brought to researchers to better understand the mechanism and factors associated with energy storage and help develop new fabric combinations in order to minimize heat transmission to the skin. This paper outlines the quality inspection strategies in a supplier-buyer supply chain under a customer return policy. This paper primarily focuses on product quality and quality inspection techniques to maximize the actors' and supply chain's profits using game theory approach. The supplier-buyer setup is described in terms of textile manufacturer-retailer supply chain where quality inspection is an important aspect and the product return from the customer is generally accepted. Textile manufacturer produces the product, whereas, retailer acts as a reseller who buys the products from the textile manufacturer and sells them to the customers. In this context, the former invests in the product quality whereas the latter invests in the random quality inspection and traceability. The relationships between the textile manufacturer and the retailer are recognized as horizontal and vertical alliances and modeled using non-cooperative and cooperative games. The non-cooperative games are based on the Stackelberg and Nash equilibrium models. Further, bargaining and game change scenarios have been discussed to maximize the profit under different games. To understand the appropriateness of a strategic alliance, a computational study demonstrates textile manufacturer-retailer relation under different game scenarios. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Coating of textile fabrics with poly (3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly (styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is one of the methods used for obtaining functional or smart applications. In this work, we prepared PEDOT:PSS polymer with certain additives such as polyethylene glycol, methanol (MeOH), and ethylene glycol on polyester fabric substrates by a simple immersion process. Surface resistance was measured and analyzed with analysis of variance to determine the coating parameters at 95% confidence level. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study of the samples were performed. Contact angle and washing fastness measurements were conducted, to observe the wettability and washing fastness of the samples, respectively. Surface resistance values were decreased by a factor of 100, due to conductive enhancers. As the immersion time and temperature condition varies, surface resistance showed no difference, statistically. FTIR analysis supports the idea that the mechanism responsible for the conductivity enhancement is the partial replacement of PSS from PEDOT chain by forming a hydrogen bond with hydroxyl ion (OH) of the conductive enhancers. A SEM images showed that PEDOT:PSS is well distributed to the surface of the fabrics. Contact angle measurements showed morphology change in the samples. The conductivity was reasonably stable after 10 washing cycles. Altogether, an effective simple immersion of coated polyester fabric is presented to achieve functional textiles that offer a broad range of possible applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
