Background: Myricetin, a flavonoid, has anti-inflammation effects and can improve pancreatic β cells dysfunction. However, the role of myricetin in severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) and the precise mechanism remain unclear. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate how myricetin affects pancreatic damage induced by SAP. Results: Myricetin substantially reduced the expression of lipase and amylase, and ameliorated pancreatic damage induced by SAP. Moreover, myricetin inhibited the release of several inflammatory relevant cytokines including tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and IL-10, alleviated apoptosis of pancreatic alveolar cells, and ameliorated microcirculatory dysfunction in SAP rats. Furthermore, myricetin inhibited the acetylation of forkhead box protein O1(FOXO1) and the phosphorylation of NF-kB. Conclusion: Myricetin improves SAP-induced pancreatic injury through suppressing microcirculation dysfunction, overactive inflammatory response, and cell apoptosis. Phase unwrapping is a crucial step in almost all Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) applications. However, the presence of noise often introduces phase inconsistencies, known as residues, which lead to ambiguous solutions. This paper builds upon the unscented Kalman filter phase unwrapping method and combines a modified phase gradient estimation algorithm, a pre-filtering step based on a neural network, and previous work to achieve higher precision in unwrapping the phase. The pre-filtering step aims to obtain a fringe-enhanced interferogram. The proposed method estimates the phase gradient of the pre-filtered interference phase and integrates it with the unscented Kalman filter phase unwrapping method. Additionally, it incorporates a strategy based on pixel reliability grades and introduces a new path-following strategy to obtain more accurate unwrapped phases. Unlike the traditional unscented Kalman filter phase unwrapping method, the proposed method can simultaneously unwrap multiple pixels, thereby improving the efficiency of the phase unwrapping process. Experimental results of simulated and real data demonstrate that the method proposed in this paper achieves better unwrapped results, especially when dealing with interferograms containing unclear fringes. Achieving a large adiabatic temperature change (ΔT) and broadening the operating temperature span (Tspan) are two main challenges in modulating the electrocaloric (EC) effect of relaxor ferroelectrics. Here, synergistic optimization has been achieved through creating multi-stage phase transitions in layered sodium bismuth titanate (BNT)-based ceramics. A direct measurement indicates that the strategy achieves a large EC response (ΔT >1 K within a Tspan of 66 °C). The cooling performance exceeds 90% and 80% of the maximum for temperature spans of 44 °C and 67 °C, respectively, demonstrating excellent temperature stability. Additionally, the difference in dielectric permittivity (ε) among ceramic layers creates an uneven distribution of the electric field (E), with their EC effects adaptively compensating for each other with temperature, thereby further enhancing the stability. Fatty liver is characterized by the expansion of lipid droplets (LDs) and is associated with the development of many metabolic diseases. We assessed the morphology of hepatic LDs and performed quantitative proteomics in lean, glucose-tolerant mice compared with high-fat diet (HFD) fed mice that displayed hepatic steatosis and glucose intolerance as well as high-starch diet (HStD) fed mice who exhibited similar levels of hepatic steatosis but remained glucose tolerant. Both HFD- and HStD-fed mice had more and larger LDs than Chow-fed animals. We observed striking differences in liver LD proteomes of HFD- and HStD-fed mice compared with Chow-fed mice, with fewer differences between HFD and HStD. Taking advantage of our diet strategy, we identified a fatty liver LD proteome consisting of proteins common in HFD- and HStD-fed mice, as well as a proteome associated with glucose tolerance that included proteins shared in Chow and HStD but not HFD-fed mice. Notably, glucose intolerance was associated with changes in the ratio of adipose triglyceride lipase to perilipin 5 in the LD proteome, suggesting dysregulation of neutral lipid homeostasis in glucose-intolerant fatty liver. We conclude that our novel dietary approach uncouples ectopic lipid burden from insulin resistance-associated changes in the hepatic lipid droplet proteome. The development of high-performance lead-free K0.5Na0.5NbO3-based piezoceramics for replacing commercial lead-containing counterparts is crucial for achieving environmentally sustainable society. Although the proposed new phase boundaries (NPB) can effectively improve the piezoelectricity of KNN-based ceramics, the difficulty of achieving saturated poling and the underlying multiscale structures resolution of their complex microstructures are urgent issues. Here, we employ a medium entropy strategy to design NPB and utilize texture engineering to induce crystal orientation. The developed K0.5Na0.5NbO3-based ceramics enjoys both prominent piezoelectric performance and satisfactory Curie temperature, thus exhibiting an ultrahigh energy harvesting performance as well as excellent transducer performance, which is highly competitive in both lead-free and lead-based piezoceramics. Comprehensive structural analysis have ascertained that the field-induced efficient multiscale polarization configurations irreversible transitions greatly encourages high saturated poling. This study demonstrates a strategy for designing high-performance piezoceramics and establishes a close correlation between the piezoelectricty and the underlying multiscale structures. There are difficulty of achieving saturated poling and understanding of multi-scale structures in (K, Na)NbO3 ceramics. Two-dimensional phase unwrapping (2-D PU) is vital for reconstructing Earth's surface topography and displacement from interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) data. Conventional algorithms rely on the postulate, but this assumption is often insufficient due to abrupt topographic changes and severe noise. To address this challenge, our research proposes a novel approach utilizing deep convolutional neural networks inspired by the U-Net architecture to estimate phase gradient information. Our approach involves downsampling the input data to extract crucial features, followed by upsampling to restore spatial resolution. We incorporate two attention mechanisms—feature pyramid attention (FPA) and global attention upsample (GAU)—and a residual structure in the network's structure. Thus, we construct ResDANet (residual and dual attention net). We rigorously train ResDANet utilizing simulated datasets and employ an L1-norm objective function to minimize the disparity between unwrapped phase gradients and those calculated by ResDANet, yielding the final 2-D PU results. The network is rigorously trained using two distinct training strategies and encompassing three types of simulated datasets. The phase transition temperature (e.g., that of orthorhombic‐tetragonal TO‐T) of relaxor ferroelectrics are commonly obtained through electrical method (i.e., temperature dependence of dielectric constant), and the samples need to be coated with metal electrode and tested by a sophisticated impedance analyzer. This contact measuring method is inefficient, inconvenient and easy to damage the sample surface, inapplicable to transparent ferroelectrics. Here, we successfully fabricated Bi/Sm co‐doped K0.5Na0.5NbO3 transparent ceramics with photoluminescent behavior and relaxor‐like ferroelectricity, which simultaneously realized TO‐T monitoring and temperature sensing via fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) technology. This simple, rapid, noncontact and nondestructive optical way displays small TO‐T deviation (merely 0.78%) compared to the electrical method. And the temperature‐dependent optical characteristics and coercive electric field all present abrupt changes, whose abnormal temperature regions are in accordance with that around TO‐T. In addition, the maximum absolute sensitivity and relative sensitivity of the ceramics reach 0.0072 K−1 (at 533 K) and 0.0111 K−1 (at 453 K), respectively, exhibiting superior optical temperature sensing performance. Enhancing the energy storage performance of dielectric material through the adoption of a novel domain strategy is highly desirable. In this study, Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3‐based thin films are fabricated with topological vortex domains (VDs) by controlling the grain size and investigated the correlation between these VDs and the macroscopic polarization response, which is crucial for the energy storage performance. The emergence of VDs, in contrast to conventional ferroelectric domains, promotes polarization reversal in dielectric materials. Additionally, in contrast to the severely reduced saturation polarization typically noted in conventional relaxor ferroelectrics (RFE), the presence of VDs in RFE leads to only a slight reduction in saturation polarization. These two advantages contribute to the superior energy storage performance of the films with VDs. Traditional solid‐state luminescent materials (e.g., phosphors and microcrystalline glasses) have attracted extensive attention due to their high energy efficiency and long lifespan. However, their application scope is limited by complex compositions and manufacturing processes, as well as single‐function. In this study, solid‐state reaction was utilized to prepare transparent‐ferroelectric (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 (KNN) ceramics by simply codoping with Dy3+ and Sr2+, providing possibilities for large‐scale production. Ceramics exhibit high optical transmittance, high‐quality white‐light emission and relaxor ferroelectric feature. Under irradiation of UV light, photochromic behavior occurring in the ceramics, resulting in modulating the optical performances, especially quality of emitted white light. The family of rare-earth doped phosphors has drawn pronounced attention in technological of fingerprint visualization, anti-counterfeiting, and phosphor-converted light-emitting diodes applications. A series of NaSrGd(1–x–y)EuxDyy(WO4)3 powder luminescent materials were synthesized by a solid-state reaction. The emission color of NaSrGd(WO4)3:Dy3+ phosphor could be tunned via changing concentrations of Eu3+ ion. In addition, the phosphors exhibit narrow red-light emission at 610 nm caused by the electric dipole transition 5D0 → 7F2 of Eu3+. Especially, the phosphor exhibits superior thermal stability, its emission intensity of optimum sample remained ± 15% over the temperature range from 233 to 393 K. The Commission International de I'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of x = 0.4 are (0.6388, 0.3371) with a high color purity (92.84%). More importantly, prepared color-changing device of phosphors achieves a high level of optical safety. Background: Pilot and feasibility studies provide information to be used when planning a full trial. A sufficient sample size within the pilot/feasibility study is required so this information can be extracted with suitable precision. This work builds upon previous reviews of pilot and feasibility studies to evaluate whether the target sample size aligns with recent recommendations and whether these targets are being reached. Methods: A review of the ISRCTN registry was completed using the keywords "pilot" and "feasibility". The inclusion criteria were UK-based randomised interventional trials that started between 2013 (end of the previous review) and 2020. Target sample size, actual sample size and key design characteristics were extracted. Descriptive statistics were used to present sample sizes overall and by key characteristics. Results: In total, 761 studies were included in the review of which 448 (59%) were labelled feasibility studies, 244 (32%) pilot studies and 69 (9%) described as both pilot and feasibility studies. Over all included pilot and feasibility studies (n = 761), the median target sample size was 30 (IQR 20–50). This was consistent when split by those labelled as a pilot or feasibility study. Slightly larger sample sizes (median = 33, IQR 20–50) were shown for those labelled both pilot and feasibility (n = 69). Studies with a continuous outcome (n = 592) had a median target sample size of 30 (IQR 20–43) whereas, in line with recommendations, this was larger for those with binary outcomes (median = 50, IQR 25–81, n = 97). There was no descriptive difference in the target sample size based on funder type. In studies where the achieved sample size was available (n = 301), 173 (57%) did not reach their sample size target; however, the median difference between the target and actual sample sizes was small at just minus four participants (IQR −25–0). Conclusions: Target sample sizes for pilot and feasibility studies have remained constant since the last review in 2013. Most studies in the review satisfy the earlier and more lenient recommendations however do not satisfy the most recent largest recommendation. Additionally, most studies did not reach their target sample size meaning the information collected may not be sufficient to estimate the required parameters for future definitive randomised controlled trials. Background: 1P36 deletion syndrome is recognized as the most common terminal microdeletion syndrome in humans, characterized by early developmental delay and consequent intellectual disability, seizure disorder, and distinctive facial features. Variable deletion locations may attributed to phenotypic variability. However, the abnormal phenotypes of hematology are rarely reported in 1P36 deletion syndrome patients. Case presentation: We present a case of postnatal intellectual disability accompanied by pancytopenia. Copy number variation analysis revealed a pathogenic deletion in 1p36.331p36.32 with a deletion size of 2.21 Mb. Following successful treatment with glucocorticoids, the patient was diagnosed with immuno-related hemocytopenia (IRH). Discussion: The patient experienced IRH, an uncommon characteristic of 1p36 deletion syndrome. The deletion fragment of 1p36.33-p36.32, particularly the loss of GNB1 gene, has been associated with the development of pancytopenia. Genotype-phenotype correlations are valuable in identifying the genes responsible for various clinical characteristics of the syndrome by associating phenotypic variation with specific genes located within the chromosome deletion region. Genome sequencing is recommended in cases where clinical manifestations indicate the presence of a genetic disorder but pose diagnostic challenges. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The development of high‐performance (K,Na)NbO3 (KNN)‐based lead‐free piezoceramics for next‐generation electronic devices is crucial for achieving environmentally sustainable society. However, despite recent improvements in piezoelectric coefficients, correlating their properties to underlying multiscale structures remains a key issue for high‐performance KNN‐based ceramics with complex phase boundaries. Here, this study proposes a medium‐entropy strategy to design "local polymorphic distortion" in conjunction with the construction of uniformly oversize grains in the newly developed KNN solid‐solution, resulting in a novel large‐size hierarchical domain architecture (≈0.7 µm wide). Such a structure not only facilitates polarization rotation but also ensures a large residual polarization, which significantly improves the piezoelectricity (≈3.2 times) and obtains a giant energy harvesting performance (Wout = 2.44 mW, PD = 35.32 µW mm−3, outperforming most lead‐free piezoceramics). This study confirms the coexistence of multiphase through the atomic‐resolution polarization features and analyzes the domain/phase transition mechanisms using in situ electric field structural characterizations, revealing that the electric field induces highly effective multiscale polarization configuration transitions based on T–O–R sequential phase transitions. This study demonstrates a new strategy for designing high‐performance piezoceramics and facilitates the development of lead‐free piezoceramic materials in energy harvesting applications. Mucosal‐associated invariant T (MAIT) cells are important in antibacterial immune responses; however, during sepsis, they are few in number and exhibit highly activated phenotypes. The relationship between MAIT cells in peripheral blood and the prognosis of sepsis is not well understood. Thus, this study aimed to examine the levels and phenotypes of MAIT cells in early sepsis, evaluate their clinical relevance, and investigate their association with patient prognosis. This prospective observational study enrolled 72 septic patients defined according to the Sepsis 3.0 criteria and 21 healthy controls matched for age and sex. Their peripheral blood samples were used to assay the expression of immune activation (CD69 and HLA‐DR) and immune checkpoint (PD‐1 and PD‐L1) markers on MAIT cells. The systemic inflammatory response syndrome, acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE) II, and sequential organ failure assessment scores were recorded. Subsequently, the association between MAIT cell characteristics and clinical indicators was assessed using Spearman's rank correlation analysis, and binary logistic regression analysis with a forward stepwise approach assessed independent risk factors for 28‐day mortality. We noted a decrease in the percentage of MAIT cells in the patients' peripheral blood, which exhibited an activated phenotype. Besides, HLA‐DR+ MAIT cell percentage and the APACHE II score were independently associated with the 28‐day mortality and, in combination, were the best indicators of mortality. Thus, the percentage of HLA‐DR+ MAIT cells in early sepsis serves as a novel prognostic biomarker for predicting mortality and improves the predictive capacity of the APACHE II score. Background: Kidney disease of children markedly affects their health and development. Limited clinical data of early‐stage kidney disease render a tremendous challenge for the accurate diagnosis. Trio whole‐exome sequencing (Trio‐WES) is emerging as a first‐line diagnostic strategy in pediatric kidney disease, and shows important implications for the precision medicine strategies of children with kidney disease. Methods: Trio‐WES was performed in 133 Chinese children with kidney disease and their parents. The results for casual variants in genes known to cause kidney disease were analyzed. We further assessed the genetic diagnostic yield and the clinical implications of genetic testing. Results: An overall diagnostic yield of 52.63% (70/133) was found, and the diagnostic rates ranged from 44.74% to 59.62% in different clinical phenotypes. The diagnostic yield of the three groups of simple proteinuria, renal insufficiency, and "other" was 50%, 50%, and 54.55%, respectively. Eight‐seven diagnostic variants were identified in 70 probands with variants spanning 30 genes. The top 7 genes with diagnostic variants were COL4A5 (23, 26.44%), COL4A4 (13, 14.94%), ADCK4 (7, 8.05%), CLCN5 (3, 3.45%), ACE (3, 3.45%), PKD1 (3, 3.45%), and SLC12A3 (3, 3.45%), accounting for 63.22% of all variations in the cohort. Conclusions: The retrospective cohort study summarized the clinical utility of genetic testing in 133 probands, and expanded the phenotypic and genetic profiles of kidney disease in children. Trio‐WES is an efficient diagnostic tool for children with kidney disease, which facilitates the clinical diagnosis and treatment. Constructing the stepwise phase transition can delay the polarization process of antiferroelectric ceramics, possessing certain significance for improving the energy storage density. However, the common multiphase transitions are obtained in the rare-earth ions doped PbZrO3-based systems. In the present work, the multiphase transition can also be induced in the lanthanum-free Pb(Zr0.5Sn0.5)O3 matrix with mere doping of the alkali-earth metal ion Sr. The introduction of Sr endows the matrix with a higher lattice distortion and the reduced phase-transition temperature. Moreover, related to the induced stepwise electric field-induced phase transition, the energy storage properties are remarkably enhanced to 10.5 J/cm3 and 83.2% when the substitution content of Sr is 3 mol. %. Sr modification can adjust the phase structure by regulating the phase stability of the matrix and suppress the leakage current originating from the structural changes. This work provides a successful attempt that the phase structure and energy storage performance of antiferroelectric ceramics can also be effectively controlled through cheaper and simpler element modification. Domain orientation engineering regulates the polarization direction of thin film and facilitates the enhancement of piezoelectric properties. A change in polarization direction implies a structural change in the piezoelectric thin film. In this work, some unexpected results are obtained by preparing three orientations of Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3‐based lead‐free piezoelectric thin films to amplify this structural change. In distinction to the conventional perception, the piezoelectric properties decrease with increasing polarization direction. This anomaly is influenced by the concentration of structural defects, and rotation of the polarization direction may induce a change in the electronic structure of the material and hence in the concentration of structural defects. Ultimately, the suppression of the domain dynamics response by increasing structural defects leads to the worst piezoelectric properties for thin films with the traditionally perceived optimal (100) orientation. Despite being the mainstay treatment for many types of cancer in clinic, radiotherapy is undertaking great challenges in overcoming a series of limitations. Radiosensitizers are promising agents capable of depositing irradiation energy and generating free radicals to enhance the radiosensitivity of tumor cells. Combining radiosensitizers with functional polymer‐based nanomaterials holds great potential to improve biodistribution, circulation time, and stability in vivo. The derived polymeric nano‐radiosensitizers can significantly improve the efficiency of tumor targeting and radiotherapy, and reduce the side effect to healthy tissues. In this review, an overview of functional polymer‐based nanomaterials for radiosensitization in recent years is provided. Particular emphases are given to the action mechanisms, drug loading methods, targeting efficiencies, the impact on therapeutic effects, and biocompatibility of various radiosensitizing polymers, which are classified as polymeric micelles, dendrimers, polymeric nanospheres, nanoscale coordination polymers, polymersomes, and nanogels. Environment-friendly ceramic capacitors with outstanding energy storage properties (ESPs) are greatly desired for advanced pulsed power systems. However, it is still a great challenge to develop lead-free dielectric materials with simultaneous excellent recoverable energy storage density (Wrec) and energy storage efficiency (η). In the present work, a synergistic optimization strategy with regard to ferroelectric domain and band structures is applied to NaNbO3 (NN)-based ceramics, where the introduction of Bi3+ induces elongated ferroelectric P–E loops due to nanodomain formation, and the further modification of the Ta doping content remarkably reduces the grain size and widens the band gap (Eg), leading to a high breakdown strength. As a result, the involved Na0.7Bi0.1Nb0.9Ta0.1O3 ceramics exhibit excellent comprehensive ESP (Wrec = 7.33 J cm−3, η = 83.68%, Eb = 530 kV cm−1) and good stability. Moreover, an ultrafast discharge time of 60 ns and high power density of 320.21 MW cm−3 are also achieved. Na0.7Bi0.1Nb0.9Ta0.1O3 ceramics with an uncomplicated chemical composition and prominent properties demonstrate promising applications in pulsed power systems and the synergistic optimization strategy in this study offers an important reference for future lead-free ceramic capacitors. Mechanical energy-driven wireless charging technology has recently gained increasing attention. In this work, high-performance potassium sodium niobate (KNN)-based textured ceramics and their potential application in energy harvesting devices are systematically investigated. A series of lead-free 0.99K0.5Na0.5Nb(1−x)TaxO3–0.01Bi(Ni2/3Nb1/3)O3 [KNNTa–BNN] piezoceramics were designed and prepared to search for good comprehensive properties. The comprehensive performance of KNN-based piezoelectric ceramics has reached a new level in T–Ta-9 (d33 ∼ 435 pC N−1, kp ∼ 71%, Tc ∼ 360 °C) via the synergy of the textured structure (f(00l) > 94%) and multiphase coexistence (O–T) near room temperature. Based on the advanced in situ TEM and PFM analyses, it was found that the regular large-scale domains and corresponding poling patterns of the T–Ta-9 can be well maintained at relatively high temperatures (180–330 °C), resulting in excellent temperature stability. Hence, the d33 value of T–Ta-9 can be maintained above 300 pC N−1 over a wide range from room temperature to 300 °C, which rarely happens in the previously reported KNN-based materials. More importantly, the piezoelectric circular diaphragm (PCD) vibration energy harvester based on the T–Ta-9 texture ceramic possesses high output voltage (U ∼ 13 V) and output power (W ∼ 3 mW), and can still maintain above 60% after being heated at 200 °C for 30 min. This work represents a significant advancement in the lead-free piezoelectric energy-harvesting field (especially for high-temperature applications) and can provide guidelines for future efforts in this direction. Acute lung injury (ALI) is a life-threatening clinical condition associated with critically ill patients, and the construction of potential microRNA (miRNA) and messenger RNA (mRNA) regulatory networks will help to fully elucidate its underlying molecular mechanisms. First, we screened fifteen upregulated differentially expressed miRNAs (DE-miRNAs) and six downregulated DE-miRNAs from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Then, the predicted target genes of the upregulated and downregulated DE-miRNAs were identified from the miRNet database. Subsequently, differentially expressed mRNAs (DE-mRNAs) were identified from the GEO database and subjected to combined analysis with the predicted DE-miRNA target genes. Eleven target genes of the upregulated DE-miRNAs and one target gene of the downregulated DE-miRNAs were screened out. To further validate the prediction results, we randomly selected a dataset for subsequent analysis and found some accurate potential miRNA-mRNA regulatory axes, including mmu-mir-7b-5p-Gria1, mmu-mir-486a-5p-Shc4 and mmu-mir-486b-5p-Shc4 pairs. Finally, mir-7b and its target gene Gria1 and mir-486b and its target gene Shc4 were further validated in a bleomycin-induced ALI mouse model. We established a potential miRNA-mRNA regulatory network of ALI in mice, which may provide a basis for basic and clinical research on ALI and advance the available treatment options. Dense (K, Na)NbO3 ceramics are successfully fabricated via the cold sintering process at 350°C under a uniaxial pressure of 400 MPa for 4 h. Equimolar KOH and NaOH solutions were utilized as a transient alkaline flux. The microstructure and dielectric properties were studied in detail. Scanning electron microscope and the relative densities reveal dense structures of the ceramics. After post‐annealing at 800°C for 1 h, the ceramics show good electrical performance. The relative dielectric permittivity is 829 (at 10 kHz) at room temperature, and the piezoelectric constant (d33) reaches up to 148 pC/N. The cold sintering technique with equimolar KOH and NaOH solutions as a transient alkaline flux endow KNN ceramics with excellent dielectric and piezoelectric properties, showing a potential way to fabricating other KNN‐based ceramics at low temperature. Software traceability links are established between diverse artifacts of the software development process in order to support tasks such as compliance analysis, safety assurance, and requirements validation. However, practice has shown that it is difficult and costly to create and maintain trace links in non-trivially sized projects. For this reason, many researchers have proposed and evaluated automated approaches based on information retrieval and deep-learning. Generating trace links automatically can also be challenging – especially in multi-national projects which include artifacts written in multiple languages. The intermingled language use can reduce the efficiency of automated tracing solutions. In this work, we analyze patterns of intermingled language that we observed in several different projects, and then comparatively evaluate different tracing algorithms. These include Information Retrieval techniques, such as the Vector Space Model (VSM), Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI), Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), and various models that combine mono- and cross-lingual word embeddings with the Generative Vector Space Model (GVSM), and a deep-learning approach based on a BERT language model. Our experimental analysis of trace links generated for 14 Chinese-English projects indicates that our MultiLingual Trace-BERT approach performed best in large projects with close to 2-times the accuracy of the best IR approach, while the IR-based GVSM with neural machine translation and a monolingual word embedding performed best on small projects. Background: Workplace heat exposure can cause a series of heat-related illnesses and injuries. Protecting workers especially those undertake work outdoors from the risk of heat strain is a great challenge for many workplaces in China under the context of climate change. The aim of this study is to investigate the perceptions and adaptation behaviors of heat exposure among construction workers and to provide evidence for the development of targeted heat adaptation strategies nationally and internationally.Methods: In 2020, we conducted a cross-sectional online questionnaire survey via WeChat Survey Star in China, using a purposive snowball sampling approach. A total of 326 construction workers submitted completed questionnaires. The perceptions of workplace heat exposure were measured using seven indicators: concerns over high temperature, perception of high temperature injury, attitudes towards both heat-related training and regulations, adjustment of working habits during heat, heat prevention measures in the workplace, and reduction of work efficiency. Bivariate and multivariate regression analyses were used to identify the factors significantly associated with workers' heat perceptions and behavioral responses.Results: 33.3% of the respondents were moderately or very concerned about heat exposure in the workplace. Less than half of the workers (43.8%) were worried about heat-related injuries. Workers who have either experienced work-related injuries (OR = 1.30, 95% CI 1.03-1.62) or witnessed injuries to others during high temperatures (OR = 1.12, 95% CI 1.02-1.27) were more concerned about heat exposure compared to other workers. Most respondents (63.5%) stated that their work efficiency declined during extremely hot weather. The factors significantly associated with a reduction of work efficiency included undertaking physically demanding jobs (OR = 1.28, 95% CI 1.07-1.54) and witnessing other workers' injuries during high temperatures (OR = 1.26, 95% CI 1.11-1.43). More than half of the workers were willing to adjust their work habits to adapt to the impact of high temperatures (81.6%). The internet was the most common method to obtain heat prevention information (44.7%), and the most frequently used heat prevention measure was the provision of cool drinking water (64.8%).Conclusions: Chinese construction workers lack heat risk awareness and are not well prepared for the likely increasing heat exposure in the workplace due to global warming. Therefore, there is a need to improve their awareness of heat-related injuries, strengthen high temperature related education and training, and update the current heat prevention policies to ensure compliance and implementation. Smart windows with adjustable transmittance via physical stimuli are eagerly desired for sorts of energy‐saving lighting systems. However, reciprocal trade‐off relationship such as high transparency and coloration/discoloration ability exists in smart windows, not conducive to optical‐electrical coupling and leap in performance. Substituting for common composites utilized in smart windows, here, single transparent ceramic‐based smart windows are reported through composition design and defect management strategies to regulate the optoelectronic performances and break off the contradictions between optical transmittance, photo‐thermochromism and electrical conductivity. By first principles calculations and precisely tuning Er3+, Ba2+, Sr2+ concentrations in non‐stoichiometric Er‐doped (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3‐(Ba, Sr)TiO3, the fabricated ceramics exhibit brilliant transparency and multi‐mode dramatical and reversible modulations of pellucidity, photoluminescence intensity, along with conductivity (over fivefold variation), enabling prominent optoelectronic information storage and modulating capacity in vivid potential applications, such as easy‐readout/erasable optical memorizers, photo‐memristors and anti‐counterfeiting displays. Ferroelectric photo‐thermochromic (PTC) materials with both high coloration contrast and high transparency have attracted great attention for their applications in "smart window" for non‐contact optical information storage. Nevertheless, it has been challenging to develop a ferroelectric PTC material that simultaneously meets the distinct transparency and coloration contrast requirements. Herein, dual rare‐earth ions doping of 1%Er‐(K0.5Na0.5)0.985La0.015NbO6 (Er‐KNLN) ferroelectric ceramics is aimed at increasing the optical transmittance and obtaining an ideal coloration contrast. The traditional solid‐state reaction is exploited for ceramics fabrication, and the optimal optical transmittance (≈70% at 900 nm) can be obtained due to finer grains, more symmetrical structure, and compact structure in samples sintered at a suitable temperature (such as ≤1165 °C). Contributed from the trapping and de‐trapping of charge carriers in vacancy‐related defects, the Er‐KNLN ceramics exhibit obvious PTC behavior and the novel impedance modulation is developed. The coupling between PTC behavior and optical transparency, lanthanide up‐conversion emission, patterned display, and room temperature impedance enables nondestructive rewritable and readout characteristics of multi‐mode "0" and "1" states. The SureID®S6 system used a lyophilized pellet as the amplification reagent to enable multiplexing of sex-determining marker Amelogenin, 21 autosomal short tandem repeats (STRs), and one Y-STR. To assess the performance, reliability, and limitation of the dry amplification system, the validation studies including PCR condition, reproducibility, sizing and precision, analytical threshold calculation, sensitivity and stochastic threshold calculation, species specificity, stability, mixture, case sample, and population and concordance were conducted according to the Scientific Working Group on DNA Analysis Methods (SWGDAM) Validation Guidelines. Experimental data suggested that the optimal range of total input DNA was from 125 to 500 pg; the appropriate analytical threshold was 80 relative fluorescence units (RFUs) while the stochastic threshold was 260 RFUs; for the stability studies, SureID®S6 system could resist against less than 500 μmol/L of hematin, 100 ng/μl of humic acid, 4 mM of indigotin, 800 mM of tannic acid, and 800 mM of calcium ion. Population and concordance studies using 500 unrelated individuals showed that the combined probability of discrimination (CPD) and cumulative probability of exclusion (CPE) values were 0.999999999999 and 0.999999998416, respectively. The genotypes for the same sample were concordant with the previously validated HUAXIA™ Platinum kit. The Eu-doped K0.5Na0.5NbO3 pellucid ceramics were first prepared via a conventional solid-state reaction, and they exhibited light illumination-induced high-contrast photochromism of both optical transmittance and photoluminescence behaviors. Through thermal treatment, the optical performances could return to their initial states and displayed excellent reversibility. Eu3+ ions were selected as the luminescent activator for detecting the local environment of the K0.5Na0.5NbO3 host. Meanwhile, the effects of the amount of Eu3+ present on phase structures, microstructures, optical transmittance and photoluminescence intensities were systematically investigated. The results suggest that Eu-doped K0.5Na0.5NbO3 transparent ceramics possess multifunctionality including photochromism, photoluminescence and optical switching properties, and that they exhibit promising potential for non-destructive optical data storage application. This work is aimed at investigating the structural deterioration and the frost heaving force evolution characteristics of flawed rocks using a self-developed frost heaving force (FHF) measurement system. Three kinds of preflawed rocks with different flaw geometry parameters were used to conduct the FHF measurement tests. The testing results reveal five distinguished stages from the frost heaving force evolution curve; they are the inoculation stage, explosive stage, decline to steady stage, recovery stage, and sudden drop stage. In addition, a secondary frost heaving phenomenon is found, and the secondary peak value is lower than the initial peak value. Moreover, the FHF decreases with increasing the F-T cycle number, and its decreasing rate becomes faster at a high F-T cycle. The frost heaving force is affected not only by flaw geometry but also by the lithology. For low-pore hard rock, damage propagates quickly after the occurrence of freeze-thaw damage. It is suggested that the mesoscopic structure of rock affects the water migration and water-ice phase transformation, and rock can be fractured by FHF in the preexisting flaws. A novel photochromic (PC) ferroelectric material, Nd3+-doped K0.5Na0.5NbO3 translucent ceramic, was fabricated by a conventional solid method. The ceramic shows moderate optical transparency due to its dense microstructure, as well as good photoluminescence (PL) properties of up-conversion (UC) emission in the visible region and down-shifting (DS) emission in the near-infrared region. Simultaneously, the colors of all the ceramics turn darker after 365 nm illumination, and then recover to their initial states upon thermal stimulus (210 °C, 10 min), exhibiting a typical PC phenomenon. In particular, the effect of the PC behavior on PL lifetimes of Nd3+ was investigated. Multi-mode reversible modulations of various optical behaviors were realized based on the PC behavior, especially for the regulation of near-infrared emission. And the maximum modulation ratios of transmittances, UC or DS PL intensities and luminescence lifetimes are 43.0%, 66.7%, 66.4% and 12.8%, respectively. Owing to high-temperature sintering and Nd3+ substitution in the ceramics, cation and oxygen vacancies appear to produce F′ and V1 color centers, which are in charge of the PC behavior and corresponding modulations. These results suggest that the ceramics are a promising PC material in visible and near-infrared optical data storage, photo-switches, and optoelectronic devices. The (K0.5Na0.5)0.95Li0.05Nb0.95Bi0.05O3‐1mol% Er2O3 transparent ceramics were prepared by a pressureless sintering method. The fabricated transparent ceramics not only exhibit high optical transmittance (85.3%) due to dense microstructure (nanoscale size grains), but also show the photochromism‐induced light scattering and reversible upconversion (UC)‐switching properties by visible light irradiation. Upon 407 nm light irradiation, the optical transmittance intensity is significantly decreased, showing a strong light scattering (ΔAbs = 28.3%). The light scatting degree can be quantitatively reflected by Er3+ ion UC emission, and could be recovered to its initial optical transmittance based on photochromic reactions. Meanwhile, the transparent ceramic is found to maintain good energy storage properties with higher W (5.87 J/cm3) and Wrec (1.96 J/cm3) under a higher electric field of 260 kV/cm. These results suggest that Er3+ doped (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 transparent ceramics are promising for the modulation of light scattering and the design of photoelectric multifunction devices. Photochromic (PC) luminescent ferroelectric materials have aroused great interest because of their potential applications in optical information memories, optical switches and bio-imaging. However, those materials are basically opaque. In this work, we prepared a PC luminescent K 0. 5 Na 0. 5 NbO3-based ferroelectric transparent ceramic by modifying with Eu 3 + , Ba 2 + , Ti 4 + and Sr 2 + , which not only have good optical transmittances (∼ 60% at 900 nm), moderate ferroelectric properties and down-conversion photoluminescence (PL) properties, but also exhibit reversible PC behavior. After the illumination by xenon lamp, the colors of the ceramics change from pale green to gray, and then reversibly recover to their initial state via thermal stimulus (200∘C for 10 min). Interestingly, both the optical transmittances and PL intensities can be effectively tailored by controlling the PC reaction process. By simply doping with a certain amount of Sm3+, opaque lead-free (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 piezoelectric ceramics were fabricated into transparent/translucent ceramics. The photochromic (PC) behavior and associated reversible transmittance/luminescence modulation were realized via physical means. Upon illumination under a xenon lamp, the maximal decreased values of optical transmittance and luminescence intensity are 36.1% and 49%, respectively. Meanwhile, the colors of all the ceramics turn darker after illumination, and subsequently return to their initial states by thermal stimulus (200 °C for 5 minutes), exhibiting a typical PC phenomenon. Combining experimental and calculation results, it can be found that the PC mechanism is closely related to the vacancy defects induced by both high-temperature sintering and Sm3+-doping. Additionally, the Sm3+ effects on phase structures, microstructures, optical transmittance and photoluminescence properties of the ceramics were systematically studied. The substitution behavior of Sm3+ and vacancy defect concentrations on the energy band gap of the material were unraveled by the first principles calculations to further clarify the corresponding mechanism. The Sm3+-doped (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 transparent ceramics have potential for application in modulation and conversion of photoenergy, such as in optical memory and photo-switching devices. High optical temperature sensing properties based on rare‐earth‐doped (K,Na)NbO3‐based ferro‐/piezoelectrics have attracted much attention due to their potential application in novel optoelectronic devices. Here, we fabricated Ho3+‐doped (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3–SrTiO3 transparent ceramics by conventional pressureless sintering. Their microstructures, transmittances, up‐conversion photoluminescence, and optical temperature sensing properties have been characterized in details. Because of the cubic‐like phase, dense, and fine‐grained structure as well as relaxor‐like feature, the ceramics exhibit high transmittance (~70%) in the near‐infrared region. Owing to Ho3+, green and red up‐conversion emissions have been observed, which can be easily modulated by temperature. The ceramics have stable emission colors (<200°C) and superior temperature‐modulating emission color‐tunable performance (>200°C). Furthermore, the temperature sensing behavior based on the thermally coupled levels (5F4, 5S2) of Ho3+ has been analyzed by a fluorescence intensity ratio technique. The transparent ceramics possess outstanding optical temperature sensitivity (~0.0096/K at 550 K), higher than most rare‐earth‐doped materials (e.g., ceramics, glasses, and phosphors). Herein, the tape-casting technique was used to fabricate an Er-doped (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3 (KNN:0.02Er) laminar ceramic, which possesses a pseudo-cubic phase structure with regular cube-shaped grains. Considering the substitution behavior of the Er dopant in the KNN lattice, X-ray diffraction analysis and density functional theory simulations both verify that Er can replace K and Na sites. And Er-induced enlargement of the energy band gap of KNN:0.02Er has been obtained in the reflectance spectra and simulations. Furthermore, the ceramic exhibits dual-mode down-conversion and up-conversion photoluminescence (PL). As a lead-free luminescent ferroelectric, the PL intensity of KNN:0.02Er can be enhanced by polarization induced by electric poling. And the dual-mode PL can be obviously modulated under an electric field in an in situ, reversible, real-time and dynamical way. Our results offer an effective theoretical way to bridge the relationship between the crystal structure/chemical bonding environment and the performance of the KNN system, and also provide an opportunity to realize electrically controlled tuning of the PL response in KNN-based luminescent ferroelectrics and the corresponding optoelectronic devices. Ho3+‐doped (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3‐based transparent ceramics have been prepared via pressureless solid‐state method. The ceramics possess moderate optical transparency with the energy band gap of ~2.9 eV and submicron‐sized grains (<500 nm). The temperature‐dependent dielectric properties and ferroelectric polarization‐electric field hysteresis loops demonstrate that the ceramics own relaxor‐like characteristics. The up‐conversion photoluminescence and optical temperature sensing properties of the ceramics have been investigated. The temperature dependence of photoluminescence provides a fluorescent method to detect phase transitions, which can be expanded to other ferroelectric systems. The outstanding optical temperature sensitivity (~0.0075/K at 430 K) of the ceramic is higher than many other rare‐earth‐doped ceramics or glasses. These results suggest that the Ho3+‐doped (K0.5Na0.5)NbO3‐based transparent ceramics are promising lead‐free transparent materials for multifunctional applications, especially in temperature sensing devices. Background: This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of exchange transfusion in patients with severe imported falciparum malaria. Twelve patients who met the diagnostic criteria for severe malaria were treated with exchange transfusion 14 times according to a conventional anti-malarial treatment. This study evaluated the efficacy of exchange transfusion for severe imported falciparum malaria. Methods: Clinical data of severe imported falciparum malaria patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Nantong Third People's Hospital from January 2007 to December 2016 were investigated in this retrospective study. Patients were divided into the intervention group, which received exchange transfusion, and the control group. This study assessed parasite clearance and outcomes of the two groups, and levels of erythrocytes, haemoglobin, platelets, coagulation, liver function, lactate, C-reactive protein, and procalcitonin, before and after exchange transfusion in the intervention group. Results: There was no significant difference in the severity of admitted patients. Exchange transfusion was successfully applied 14 times in the intervention group. Differences in the levels of erythrocytes, haemoglobin and platelets did not reach statistical significance. Exchange transfusion improved coagulation, liver function, lactic acid, C-reactive protein, and procalcitonin. No differences were observed in parasite clearance, ICU and hospital length of stay, inhospital mortality, and costs of hospitalization between the two groups. Conclusion: Exchange transfusion as adjunctive therapy for severe malaria was observed to be safe in this setting. Exchange transfusion can improve liver function and coagulation and reduce inflammation, but it failed to improve parasite clearance and the outcomes of severe imported falciparum malaria in this case series. The rapid repair of gastric mucosa is critical upon exposure to injurious agents. Intestinal trefoil factor (ITF) is a member of the trefoil factor family domain peptides, which play an important role in the cytoprotection of gastric epithelium. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms that are responsible for ITF-induced gastric epithelial repair remain unclear. In the present study, we demonstrate that ITF enhances the proliferation and migration of GES-1 gastric endothelial cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner through the activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2). Furthermore, the ITF-mediated protection of GES-1 cells from a NS398 (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) was dependent on the ERK1/2 signaling pathway. Taken together, the results provide a mechanistic explanation for ITF-mediated protection of gastric epithelial mucosa cells, suggesting that activation of the ERK1/2 signaling pathway may provide a new therapeutic strategy for repairing gastric injury.
