We report on high efficiency InGaN nanowire‐based micro and nanoscale light emitting diodes (LEDs). We show that record‐ high efficiency and highly directional emissions can be achieved with red and green submicron nanowire micro‐LEDs. Lanthanum oxide (La 2O 3) nanostructured films are synthesized on a p-type silicon wafer by ablation of La 2O 3 pellet due to interaction with hot dense argon plasmas in a modified dense plasma focus (DPF) device. The nanostructured films are investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra. SEM study shows the formation of nano-films having nano-size structures with the average nanostructures size ~25, ~53, and ~45 nm for one, two, and three DPF shots, respectively. The nanostructures sizes and morphology of nano-films are consistent between the AFM and SEM analyses. XRD spectra confirms nano-sized La 2O 3 with an average grain size ~34, ~51, and ~42 nm for one, two, and three DPF shots, respectively. The electrical properties such as current–voltage and capacitance–voltage ( C– V) characteristics of the Al–La 2O 3–Si metal–oxide–semiconductor (MOS) capacitor structure are measured. The current conduction mechanism of the MOS capacitors is also demonstrated. The C– V characteristics are further used to obtain the electrical parameters such as the dielectric constant, oxide thickness, flat-band capacitance, and flat-band voltage of the MOS capacitors. These measurements demonstrate significantly lower leakage currents without any commonly used annealing or doping, thereby revealing a significant improvement of the MOS nanoelectronic device performance due to the incorporation of the DPF-produced La 2O 3 nano-films. We report fabrication of gold nanostructures on glass and indium tin oxide (ITO)-coated glass substrates using high fluence and highly energetic gold ions generated by hot, dense, and strongly non-equilibrium plasma. Nanodots and nanorods are observed in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of nanostructures grown on glass substrate with single and double shots of gold ions which is in conformity with the transmission electron microscopy image. SEM images for single and double shots of gold ions on ITO-coated glass substrate show only nanodots. The mean diameter of nanodots obtained on both glass and ITO-coated glass is found to increase with increase in the number of gold ions shot from one to two. The gold nanostructures exhibit red shift in surface plasmon resonance with increased interaction which is in agreement with other reported work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A case report of solitary lymphocytoma cutis of the nose and its treatment in a 35-year-old woman is presented. Biopsy is necessary in establishing a definitive diagnosis as lymphocytoma cutis is commonly confused with other cutaneous lesions. A possible pathogenesis is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An electronic search was performed of the electronic patient record (EPR) system to identify whether each of 13 key interventions recommended by the British HIV Association (BHIVA) had been performed for all eligible patients attending in 2009 and 2010 at one of our HIV clinics: 345 and 358 eligible HIV-positive patients were identified in 2009 and 2010, respectively. The success rates for having completed each intervention in 2009 and 2010, respectively, were all better for 2010 and none was <94%. These improved results in 2010 over those of 2009 could be attributed to the clinicians' improved experience in using the checklist and the facility of EPR to provide flagged reminders.
