The article discusses the concept of technology, which can be defined as tool-making, and notes that it is present in all human cultures and to some extent in animals. It mentions the even extinct human societies can be identified by the tools they left behind. It highlight the while some animals, such as certain birds and apes, use tools in a rudimentary way, it is only when tool-making becomes a reflective skill, integrated into intellectual and verbal thought.
