A specific, accurate, precise, and reproducible liquid chromatographic method has been developed and validated for the estimation of acamprosate calcium and baclofen in combination. The separation was achieved using stationary phase Phenomenex C18 column (150 mm× 4.6 mm.) in isocratic mode, with mobile phase containing 0.05 M potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate buffer (pH 7): acetonitrile (10:90 V/V), at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and effluents were monitored at 210 nm. The retention time of acamprosate calcium and baclofen were found to be 1.9 min and 5.3 min, respectively. The linearity for acamprosate calcium and baclofen were in the range of 2-64 µg/mL and 1.2-38.4 µg/mL, respectively. The method was validated as per ICH guideline. The recoveries of Acamprosate calcium and baclofen were found in the range of 98.90 - 100.13 % and 98.60 -100.02 %, respectively. A precise and accurate method for the analysis of antihypertensive drug combination nifedipine and valsartan was developed using the HPTLC method. The stationary phase used was a pre-coated silica gel G60 – F254 aluminium sheet and the mobile phase was acetonitrile: methanol: n-butanol: acetic acid (6:2:2:0.1, v/v/v/v). The detection of spots was carried out densitometrically using a UV detector at 230 nm in the absorbance mode. The Rf values of valsartan and nifedipine were found to be 0.25 and 0.65, respectively. The calibration curve was found to be linear in the range of 120–320 ng/band and 900–2400 ng/band for nifedipine and valsartan, respectively. Forced degradation studies were performed using stress conditions like acid and base hydrolysis, photolytic, thermal and oxidative stress degradation to develop the stability indicating method. The degradation study indicated that nifedipine was susceptible to acid-base hydrolysis, oxidative stress degradation and photolytic degradation, while valsartan was susceptible to acid-base hydrolysis and oxidative stress degradation. Basil is an economically important herb in the United States and in the world. Recent epidemics of basil downy mildew, caused by Peronospora belbahrii, have significantly affected basil production in the United States. ProPhyt (potassium phosphite), Actigard (acibenzolar-S-methyl) and Organocide (sesame oil) were evaluated in the greenhouse in the presence or absence of red light for their effects on the severity of downy mildew and sporangial production by P. belbahrii. Red light at intensity of 12 μmol photons/m2/s significantly ( P < 0.05) reduced severity of downy mildew in basil. ProPhyt-treated basil plants had the lowest disease severity irrespective of red light exposure. Basil plants treated with Actigard and Organocide under red light had significantly lower disease severity compared to plants under dark conditions with the same fungicide treatments 14 and 13 days after inoculation ( DAI) in experiments 1 and 2, respectively. Red light significantly reduced AUDPC in the treatments of Actigard and Organocide in both experiments. Basil plants treated with Actigard and Organocide under red light had significantly reduced number of P. belbahrii sporangia than those under dark conditions receiving the same fungicide treatments. This is the first report demonstrating red light in combination with Actigard and Organocide for improved management of downy mildew in greenhouse-grown basil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tan spot, caused by Pyrenophora triticirepentis, is an important disease of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) worldwide. Pathogenic races of P. tritici-repentis have been identified on the basis of their ability to induce tan necrosis and/or chlorosis symptoms on differential wheat genotypes. A group of isolates of P. triticirepentis collected from Arkansas did not fit into the current race classification system because they lack the ToxA gene. In this study, 535 spring wheat accessions were inoculated with a representative novel isolate (AR CrossB10) of P. tritici-repentis from Arkansas. An association mapping approach and 832 polymorphic diversity array technology markers were used to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with resistance to the isolate AR CrossB10. Two models (QK1 and QK2) with the least mean square difference were selected among nine linear regression models tested, and 11 QTL involved in resistance to AR CrossB10 were identified, which are located on chromosomes 1A, 1D, 2B, 2D, 6A, and 7A. The results suggest that multiple disease resistance genes also are clustered around a few of the significant markers and will be useful for wheat breeding programs and for search of candidate genes.
