The pinning control of complex networks is a hot topic of research in network science. However, most studies on pinning control ignore the impact of external interference on actual control strategies. To more comprehensively evaluate network synchronizability via pinning control in the attack–defense confrontation scenario, the paper constructs an attacker-defender game model. In the model, the attacker needs to control nodes in the network as much as possible. The defender will do their best to interfere with the attacker's control of the network. Through a series of experiments, we find that the random attack strategy is always the dominant strategy of the attacker in various equilibriums. On the other hand, the defender needs to constantly change dominant strategy in equilibrium according to the set of defense strategies and cost constraints. In addition, scale-free networks with different network metrics can also influence the payoff matrix of the game. In particular, the average degree of the network has an obvious impact on the attacker's payoff. Moreover, we further verify the correctness of the proposed attacker-defender game through a simulation based on the specific network synchronization dynamics. Finally, we conduct a sensitivity analysis in different network structures, such as the WS small-world network, the ER random network, and the Google network, to comprehensively evaluate the performance of the model. Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is worldwide health problem associated with high morbidity and mortality. From both the patient and socioeconomic perspectives, prevention of progression of premalignant oral intraepithelial neoplasia (OIN) to OSCC is clearly the preferable outcome. Optimal OSCC chemopreventives possess a variety of attributes including high tolerability, bioavailability, efficacy and preservation of an intact surface epithelium. Terminal differentiation, which directs oral keratinocytes leave the proliferative pool to form protective cornified envelopes, preserves the protective epithelial barrier while concurrently eliminating growth-aberrant keratinocytes. This study employed human premalignant oral keratinocytes and an OSCC cell line to evaluate the differentiation-inducing capacity of the synthetic retinoid, fenretinide (4HPR). Full-thickness oral mucosal explants were evaluated for proof of concept differentiation studies. Results of this study characterize the ability of 4HPR to fulfill all requisite components for keratinocyte differentiation, i.e. nuclear import via binding to cellular RA binding protein-II (molecular modeling), binding to and subsequent activation of retinoic acid nuclear receptors (receptor activation assays), increased expression and translation of genes associated with keratinocyte differentiation [Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), immunoblotting] upregulation of a transglutaminase enzyme essential for cornified envelope formation (transglutaminase 3, functional assay) and augmentation of terminal differentiation in human oral epithelial explants (image-analyses quantified corneocyte desquamation). These data build upon the chemoprevention repertoire of 4HPR that includes function as a small molecule kinase inhibitor and inhibition of essential mechanisms necessary for basement membrane invasion. An upcoming clinical trial, which will assess whether a 4HPR-releasing mucoadhesive patch induces histologic, clinical and molecular regression in OIN lesions, will provide essential clinical insights. COVID-19 has been a global pandemic for three years. Symptoms experienced by patients with this disease include fever, cough, fatigue, muscle pain, and diarrhea as well as mental health issues. The terms "coronasomnia" and "COVID-somnia" emerged in 2021 to describe sleep disorders attributable to stress associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, the concept analysis method proposed by Walker & Avant (2019) was utilized to define the concept of coronasomnia (Walker & Avant, 2019), with three key attributes identified, including COVID-related anxiety or depression; insomnia that emerges after the pandemic; and experiencing difficulty falling asleep, interrupted sleep, or early morning awakenings accompanied by difficulty returning to sleep. Furthermore, the concept was elucidated in this study using typical, borderline, opposite, and relative cases. Lastly, evidence-based tools for validating the antecedents and consequences of coronasomnia were introduced. We hope the results of this concept analysis enhance nurses' understanding of coronasomnia and facilitate the implementation of clinical care and research in this area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama, is among the most important pests of citrus. It is the main vector of the Huanglongbing (HLB) pathogen Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas), which causes severe losses in citrus crops. Control of D. citri is therefore of paramount importance to reduce the spread of HLB. In this regard, using RNA interference (RNAi) to silence target genes is a useful strategy to control psyllids. In this study, using RNAi, we examined the biological functions of the V‐ATPase subunit E (V‐ATP‐E) gene of D. citri, including its effect on acquisition of CLas. The amino acid sequence of V‐ATP‐E from D. citri had high homology with proteins from other insects. V‐ATP‐E was expressed at all D. citri life stages analyzed, and the expression level in mature adults was higher than that of teneral adults. Silencing of V‐ATP‐E resulted in a significant increase in mortality, reduced body weight, and induced cell apoptosis of the D. citri midgut. The reduced expression of V‐ATP‐E was indicated to inhibit CLas passing through the midgut and into the hemolymph, leading to a majority of CLas being confined to the midgut. In addition, double‐stranded RNA of D. citri V‐ATP‐E was safe to non‐target parasitic wasps. Introduction: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Preemptive interventions have been postulated to provide superior therapeutic options, but their implementation has been restricted by the availability of broadly applicable local delivery systems. Methods: We address this challenge by engineering a delivery vehicle, Janus nanoparticles (JNP), that combine the dual mucoadhesive properties of a first cationic chitosan compartment with a second hydrophobic poly(lactide-co-glycolide) release compartment. JNP are designed to avoid rapid mucus clearance while ensuring stable loading and controlled release of the IL-6 receptor antagonist, tocilizumab (TCZ). Results: The JNP featured defined and monodispersed sizes with an average diameter of 327 nm and a PDI of 0.245, high circularities above 0.90 and supported controlled release of TCZ and effective internalization by oral keratinocytes. TCZ released from JNP retained its biological activity and effectively reduced both, soluble and membrane-bound IL-6Rα (71% and 50%). In full-thickness oral mucosal explants, 76% of the JNP breached the stratum corneum and in 41% were observed in the basal cell layer indicating excellent mucopenetrating properties. When tested in an aggressive OSCC xenograft model, TCZ-loaded JNP showed high levels of xenograft inhibition and outperformed all control groups with respect to inhibition of tumor cell proliferation, reduction in tumor size and reduced expression of the proto-oncogene ERG. Conclusion: By combining critically required, yet orthogonal properties within the same nanoparticle design, the JNP in this study, demonstrate promise as precision delivery platforms for intraoral field-coverage chemoprevention, a vastly under-researched area of high clinical importance. Geraniin is a polyphenolic compound first isolated from Geranium thunbergii. The major protease (Mpro), namely 3 C-like protease (3CLpro), of coronaviruses is considered an attractive drug target as it is essential for the processing and maturation of viral polyproteins. Thus, our primary goal is to explore the efficiency of geraniin on 3CLpro of SARS-CoV-2 using the computational biology strategy. In this work, we studied the anti-coronavirus effect of geraniin in vitro and its potential inhibitory mode against the 3CLpro of SARS-CoV-2. We found that geraniin inhibited HCoV-OC43 coronavirus-infected cells during the attachment and penetration phases. Molecular docking and dynamics simulations exhibited that geraniin had a strong binding affinity and high stable binding to 3CLpro of SARS-CoV-2. We herein report the synthesis of ACC nanospheres in a water‐deficient organic solvent system. The obtained ACC nanospheres are very stable under dry conditions. Cryo‐TEM reveals that each nanospheres consists of smaller nanosized clusters. We further demonstrate that these clusters can precipitate on other substrates to form an ultrathin ACC coating, which should be an ACC cluster monolayer. Basement membrane invasion defines malignant transformation of surface premalignancy. Treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cells with the synthetic vitamin A derivative, fenretinide (4HPR), induces numerous cancer-preventive effects including suppression of basement membrane invasion, elimination of anchorage-independent growth, disruption of actin cytoskeletal components and inhibition of the invasion-enabling focal adhesive kinase. The purpose of this study was to elucidate 4HPR's effects on additional invasion-relevant mechanisms including matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activation and function, cell–extracellular matrix (ECM) attachments and interaction with a kinase that is essential for the epithelial–myoepithelial transformation i.e. c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK). Our data revealed that 4HPR binds with high affinity to the ATP-binding site of all three JNK isoforms with concurrent suppression of kinase function. Additional studies showed 4HPR treatment inhibited both OSCC cell–ECM adhesion and MMP activation and function. JNK downregulation and induced expression studies confirmed that the JNK3 isoform conveyed that largest impact on OSCC migration and invasion. Biodegradable polymeric implants formulated to preserve 4HPR's function and bioavailability were employed to assess 4HPR's chemopreventive impact on an OSCC tumor induction model. These studies revealed 4HPR local delivery significantly inhibited OSCC tumor size, mitotic indices and expression of the endothelial marker, erythroblast transformation-specific-related gene with concurrent increases in tumor apoptosis (cleaved caspase-3). Collectively, these data show that 4HPR suppresses invasion at multiple sites including 'outside-in' signaling, cell–ECM interactions and suppression of MMPs. Lithium metal is considered as an ideal anode material for next-generation high energy density batteries with its high specific capacity and low electrode potential. However, the high activity of lithium metal can lead to a series of safety issues. For example, lithium metal will continuously react chemically with the electrolyte, forming unstable the solid electrolyte (SEI) films. In addition, lithium dendrites can be formed during cycling, which can puncture the SEI film and cause short circuits in the battery. These drawbacks greatly hinder the commercial application of lithium metal. To solve the above problems, it is important to understand the structure of SEI and the underlying mechanism of its formation as a guide for rational design. Quantum mechanics (QM) has been demonstrated as an effective tool to investigate the chemical reactions and microscopic atomic structures of SEI. However, QM is computationally too expensive to be used for large-scale and long-term theoretical simulations. Instead, the molecular mechanics (MM) method has much orders higher computational efficiency than QM, and can be used for large-scale and long-time theoretical simulations. However, the accuracy of MM is usually not guaranteed, especially for complex SEI. Therefore, a practical solution is to combine the advantages of both. In this work, we use the hybrid ab initio and reactive molecule dynamics (HAIRs) approach to describe chemical reactions with the accuracy of quantum chemistry and improve the computational efficiency by more than 10 times with mixing QM and MM. Using this method, we have investigated the interfacial reaction mechanism of two electrolyte solutions, 1 mol⋅-1 LiTFSI-DME (dimethoxyethane) and 1 mol⋅-1 LiTFSI-EC (ethylene carbonate) with the lithium metal anode. The simulation results show that TFSI anion prefers to be decomposed, while DME does not, thus, TFSI plays the vital role of protecting DME. However, in the LiTFSI-EC system, both TFSI anion and EC are decomposed, indicating that EC is less stable and not suitable to the formation of stable SEI. Thanks to the computational efficiency of the HAIRs method, we have completed the 1 ns simulation in a few days. Using the hardware, the above calculation would take at least one to two months if only the QM method was employed. Meanwhile the long HAIRs calculation shows that for the simulation of chemical reactions in SEI, at least 1 ns is essential. Instead, previous molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with a few ps, or tens of ps, are insufficient to fully capture the critical chemical reactions. The above simulation results provide reliable experience for the computational simulation study of SEI formation, and lay the theoretical foundation for the rational design of electrolytes and the development of high-performance electrolyte solution systems. The Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) Diaphorina citri is the main vector of the pathogen Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (C Las), which is the causal agent of citrus Huanglongbing disease. Feeding by both ACP nymphs and adults on host plants allows them to obtain nutrition. Therefore, the nutritional content within the plant phloem is of much importance for the development and reproduction of ACP. The infection by pathogenic microbiomes may affect the amino acid contents of their host plants and then indirectly affect the biology of sap-feeding insects. In this study, we investigated the amino acid contents and their proportions in both C Las-infected and C Las-free citrus plants, ACP adults, and also in honeydew produced by ACP nymphs. Results showed that infection by C Las had a large impact on the amino acid species and proportion in all the tested target plants, ACP adults, and in the honeydew of ACP nymphs. The content of total amino acids in C Las-infected citrus was much higher than that of C Las-free citrus. However, C Las infection significantly reduced the proportion of essential amino acids (EAAs) in these plants. When feeding on C Las-infected citrus plants, ACP adults absorbed less total amino acids than those adults feeding on healthy plants, but the proportion of EAAs was significantly higher when they fed on C Las-infected citrus plants. The proportion of EAAs also significantly increased in the honeydew secreted by ACP nymphs that fed on C Las-infected citrus plants. However, EAA detection in the honeydew of ACP nymphs indicated that the utilization rate of EAAs by C Las positive ACP nymphs was reduced. Our study has revealed that C Las infection significantly affects the contents, proportion, and utilization efficiency of different amino acids in citrus plants, ACP adults, and nymphs, leading to a developmental pattern of ACP that is more conducive to C Las transmission. To report the long-term clinical outcomes of low-risk (LR) and intermediate-risk (IR) prostate cancer patients treated with low-dose-rate brachytherapy (LDR-BT) and external beam radiation therapy (EBRT). Men with biopsy-proven low- and intermediate-risk prostate cancer received EBRT and LDR-BT in an Asian academic center from 2000 to 2019 were reviewed. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis was performed to compare biochemical failure-free survival (bFFS) and overall survival (OS) between LDR and EBRT in the low- and intermediate-risk cohorts. 642 patients (521 EBRT and 121 LDR-BT) with low- and intermediate-risk prostate cancer were included for analysis. In the intermediate-risk group, 5- and 10-year bFFS was 96%, 89% and 86%, 61% for LDR-BT and EBRT, respectively. LDR-BT was associated with a statistically significant improvement of bFFS in the intermediate-risk cohort (HR 2.7, p = 0.02). In the low-risk cohort, no difference of bFFS was found between LDR-BT and EBRT (HR 1.9, p = 0.08). Hormone therapy was more common in EBRT than LDR-BT for intermediate-risk group (71% versus 44%, p < 0.05). Prostate cancer-specific mortality was low in both EBRT (1%) and LDR-BT (2%) cohorts. No significant difference in OS was found between LDR-BT and EBRT in low- and intermediate-risk group (HR 2.1, p = 0.2 and HR = 1.7, p = 0.3). Influenza is an acute viral respiratory disease that can also cause gastroenteritis-like symptoms, such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Immune dysfunction of adipose tissue is involved in the occurrence and prognosis of influenza viral pneumonia. In this study, we analyzed intestinal and adipose immune responses in mice infected with influenza virus and found that the impairment of intestinal and adipose immunity to influenza virus infection could be reversed by treatment with puerarin, a medicinal compound isolated from Pueraria lobata (called "gegen" in Chinese). We found that the lungs, small intestines (duodenum, ileum, jejunum) and large intestines (colon and rectum) of infected mice showed obvious inflammatory lesions, with significantly increased levels of virus, inflammatory cytokines (interleukin [IL]-6, IL-17, and tumor necrosis factor-α), Toll-like receptors 3, 4, and 9, and integrin αvβ3 and α4, and a decreased level of secreted IgA compared to the normal control group (NC) (P < 0.05-0.001). Influenza virus infected mesenteric lymph nodes and adipose tissue, and adipokines (leptin, visfatin, "chemerin", and adiponectin) of lung and mesenteric adipose tissue were dysregulated. Puerarin treatment reversed the impairment of the intestinal and adipose immune responses in mice infected with influenza virus. Our findings suggest that influenza virus can infect adipose tissue and lead to intestinal adipose immune dysfunction in normal-weight mice and that the impairment of the intestinal and adipose immune response to influenza virus infection can be reversed by puerarin treatment. This technical evaluation aims to provide practice 'how to' guidelines for radiation therapists (RTs) when positioning a transperineal ultrasound (TPUS) probe during prostate radiotherapy. Recommendations and practical tips will be provided for the best practice in TPUS‐guided workflow to obtain optimal ultrasound images for accurate interpretation and registration of the prostate gland. This will assist the RTs in making consistent and accurate clinical decision in an ultrasound‐guided radiotherapy workflow for prostate treatment. The implementation process and the associated successes and challenges will also be described to assist institutions who may be investigating the potential of implementing this system. To evaluate the associations between medical check-up items (MCI) for fundus and intraocular pressure abnormality (FIPA) diseases in the Department of Health Management Centre, the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (DHMC-FHS). Individuals who visited DHMC-FHS and underwent MCI between June 2017 to May 2019 were included, 3237 subjects. A total of 356 participants were diagnosed as FIPA and enrolled. The general clinical characteristics were collected. Diseases for FIPA diagnosed included five cohort, high intraocular pressure, diabetic retinopathy, hypertension fundus arteriosclerosis, large eye cup, and high myopia fundus changes. Possible impact factors of MCI included blood routine, B-ultrasound, heart rate, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, standard vision, cerebral arteriosclerosis, body mass, arterial/carotid arteriosclerosis, etc. Further, the Pearson's correlation coefficients and logistic regression analyses were used to examine associations between MCI and FIPA. The weighted study population who belonged to FIPA included 356 subjects. There were significant differences in age, IOP, habitual exercise, smoking, sleep duration (P˂0.05) between FIPA and without FIPA. And RBC, Hemoglobin, B-ultrasound abnormal event, heart rate, systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, TC, LDL-C, standard vision, cerebral arteriosclerosis, body mass index, carotid arteriosclerosis were positively correlated with high intraocular pressure, hypertension fundus arteriosclerosis and high myopia fundus changes (P <.05). Possible prognosis risk factors, higher IOP, habitual exercise and more frequent smoking affect FIPA prognosis significantly [Odds ratio (OR) = 0.53, P =.01; OR = 0.13, P =.03; OR = 0.83; P =.04, respectively]. Of FIPA participants, high intraocular pressure, hypertension fundus arteriosclerosis and high myopia fundus changes were shown a positive relationship with MCI. Control IOP, habitual exercise and less frequent smoking were regarded as positive associations with decreased FIPA. These findings could help us prevent and diagnose FIPA diseases in time via MCI. In this paper, we consider a class of stochastic variational inequality problems (SVIPs). Different from the classical variational inequality problems, the SVIP contains a mathematical expectation, which may not be evaluated in an explicit form in general. We combine a hybrid Newton method for deterministic cases with an unconstrained optimization reformulation based on the well-known D-gap function and sample average approximation (SAA) techniques to present an SAA-based hybrid Newton method for solving the SVIP. We show that the level sets of the approximation D-gap function are bounded. Furthermore, we prove that the sequence generated by the hybrid Newton method converges to a solution of the SVIP under appropriate conditions, and some numerical experiments are presented to prove the effectiveness and competitiveness of the hybrid Newton method. Puerarin is a major isofiavone compound isolated from the root of Pueraria lobata. It was reported that puerarin had antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antitumor, cholesterol lowering, liver protective, and neuroprotective properties. However, few studies have explored the antiviral effect of puerarin and its target mechanism related to influenza virus. Here, the antiinfluenza activity of puerarin in vitro and in vivo and its mode of action on the potential inhibition of neuraminidase (NA) were investigated. Puerarin displayed an inhibitory effect on A/FM/1/1947(H1N1) (EC50 = 52.06 μM). An indirect immunofluorescence assay indicated that puerarin blocked the nuclear export of viral NP. The inhibition of NA activity confirmed that puerarin can block the release of newly formed virus particles from infected cells. Puerarin (100 and 200 mg/kg/d) exhibited effective antiviral activity in mice, conferring 50% and 70% protection from death against H1N1, reducing virus titers, and effectively alleviating inflammation in the lungs. The molecular docking results showed that puerarin had a strong binding affinity with NA from H1N1. The results of the molecular dynamics simulation revealed that puerarin had higher stable binding at the 150‐loop region of the NA protein. These results demonstrated that puerarin acts as a NA blocker to inhibit influenza A virus both in cellular and animal models. Background and Objective: The magnitude of intra-fractional prostate displacement (change from initial position over time) is associated with the duration of the patient lying on the radiotherapy treatment couch. This study reports a minute-by-minute association and calculates the impact of this displacement on duration-dependent margins using real-time intra-fractional position data monitored by four-dimensional transperineal ultrasound (4D TPUS).Materials and Methods: A total of 55 patients were recruited prospectively. Intra-fractional position of the prostate was monitored in real-time using a 4D TPUS Clarity® system. A total of 1745 monitoring sessions were analysed. Van Herk's margin recipe (2.5∑ + 1.64((σ2 + σp2)1/2 - σp)) was used to estimate the duration-dependant margins for every minute, up to the 15th minute. Linear regression analysis was then performed on the overall margins against time and direction.Results: The mean intra-fractional position was 0.76 mm Inferior (Inf), 0 mm Lateral (Lat) and 0.94 mm Posterior (Post) at the 15th minute. A minimum margin expansion of 2.42 mm (Superior/Inf), 1.02 mm (Left/Right) and 2.65 mm (Anterior/Post) was required for an 8‑minute treatment compared to 4.29 mm (Sup/Inf), 1.84 mm (Lt/Rt) and 4.63 mm (Ant/Post) for a 15-minute treatment. The required margin expansion increased linearly (R2 = 0.99) in all directions (p < 0.01). However, while there was no statistically significant difference (p = 0.10) in the required margin expansion in the Sup/Inf and Ant/Post directions respective of the time duration, the margins were much bigger compared to those in the Lt/Rt direction (p < 0.01).Conclusion: We report our experience in deriving the minimum duration-dependant margin to generate the required planning target volume for prostate radiotherapy. The required margin increases linearly in all directions within the 15-min duration; thus, the margin will depend on the duration of the technique chosen (IMRT/VMAT/3DCRT/proton). This paper presents a novel genetic algorithm for globally solving un-constraint optimization problem. In this algorithm, a new real coded crossover operator is proposed firstly. Furthermore, for improving the convergence speed and the searching ability of our algorithm, the good point set theory rather than random selection is used to generate the initial population, and the chaotic search operator is adopted in the best solution of the current iteration. The experimental results tested on numerical benchmark functions show that this algorithm has excellent solution quality and convergence characteristics, and performs better than some algorithms. In addition to the traditional provision of postpartum assistance by senior members of the parents' family, recent years have also seen a rapid growth in care centers and postpartum home visiting services. Postpartum home visiting services combine the features and services of senior family members' assistance and postpartum care centers. Therefore, special attention has been drawn to the postpartum care service experience. This study conducted a survey among mothers participating in the Postpartum Home Visiting Service Project of the Social Affairs Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government, Taiwan. The effective sample included 43 participants. Partial least squares (PLS) analysis was performed. The results indicated that the service experience model could comprehensively reflect the relation between consumer experience, experiential value, and experience satisfaction. With regard to practical implications, the results provide postpartum home visiting service providers with a better understanding of consumers' feelings and, thus, put them in a better position to improve experience through appropriate service methods. This paper presents a practicable regional division and cut algorithm for minimizing the sum of linear fractional functions over a polyhedron. In the algorithm, by using an equivalent problem (P) of the original problem, the proposed division operation generalizes the usual standard bisection, and the deleting and reduction operations can cut away a large part of the current investigated region in which the global optimal solution of (P) does not exist. The main computation involves solving a sequence of univariate equations with strict monotonicity. The proposed algorithm is convergent to the global minimum through the successive refinement of the solutions of a series of univariate equations. It is need for development of new means against influenza virus due to the lack of efficacy of available therapeutic strategies. In previous research, 1,8-cineol exert its inhibition of nuclear factor (NF)-κB, the main regulator of cytokine and chemokine production in influenza, and anti-inflammatory activity. These fact supports and helps establish the hypothesis that 1,8-cineol may have synergism with an antiviral on influenza virus infection. The combined effect of 1,8-cineol with oseltamivir in a mouse type A influenza virus (Victoria/3/75,H3N2) model were examined. We initially tested combinations of 1,8-cineol (30, 60, and 120 mg/kg/day) and oseltamivir (0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 mg/kg/day). In addition, the 0.4 mg/kg/day of oseltamivir combined with 120 mg/kg of 1,8-cineol was selected for further combination studies. Oseltamivir was 30%, 40%, and 60% protective at 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 mg/kg/d. Combinations of 1,8-cineol (30, 60, and 120 mg/kg/d) and oseltamivir (0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 mg/kg/d) increased the number of survivors and mean survival time (MST) following combination treatment was greater than monotherapy alone. Three dimensional analysis of drug interactions using the MacSynergy method showed a strong synergistic effect of these drug combinations. Survival, MST, lung parameters (lung index, viral titers, and pathology), and cytokines (IL-10, TNF-α, IL-1β, and IFN-γ) expression in lung demonstrated the high effectiveness of the combination. Combined treatment was associated with longer MST and more reduced cytokine levels than oseltamivir alone. Ribavirin is a broad-spectrum antiviral agent that is used against RNA and DNA viruses and has been reported to inhibit infection by influenza A and B virus in vitro and in vivo. Studies have shown that ribavirin can lower convalescent antibody titers in young children hospitalized with influenza. Here, we report that ribavirin administration in juvenile mice significantly attenuated respiratory immune responses, production of total IgA and hemagglutinin (HA)-specific secretory IgA responses on the mucosal surface. In contrast, systemic IgG and IgA responses were not affected. Ribavirin significantly suppressed toll-like receptor 2 and 4 expression in the lung and decreased the level of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ in lung tissues of mice infected with influenza virus. Our findings suggest ribavirin appears to be able to inhibit viral replication and, as a result, TLR and cytokine expression are not up-regulated, attenuating inflammation as well as the respiratory tract's immune response. To globally solve linear multiplicative programming problem (LMP), this paper presents a practicable branch-and-bound method based on the framework of branch-and-bound algorithm. In this method, a new linear relaxation technique is proposed firstly. Then, the branch-and-bound algorithm is developed for solving problem LMP. The proposed algorithm is proven that it is convergent to the global minimum by means of the subsequent solutions of a series of linear programming problems. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to investigate microstructural changes in chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN) rabbit model under diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) technology of synchrotron radiation (SR). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN) models were obtained within two months after 5 New Zealand white rabbits were treated with doxorubicin hydrochloride. Blood exams, urine tests and kidney histological studies were carried out after the 5 rabbits were humanely sacrificed by hyperanesthesia. The kidney tissues were fixed in 4% formalin for one week before DEI experiment, with another 5 normal rabbits used as the control group. The experiment was performed at Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF) with a 4W1A beam line (beam energy was 14keV). On routine scanning process, the rocking curve was detected, and slope position on the curve was selected to make a 360° spatial CT scan; DEI reconstruction software was used to generate a 3-dimensional image, from which the difference in grey value between the chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN) group and the control group was measured and analyzed using MATLAB and SPSS. RESULT: Without radio-contrast, DEI provided clear visibility of the microstructures including artery, vein, straight collecting ducts, papillary tubules, glomeruli in both the chronic glomerulonephritis (CGN) group and the control group, with a spatial resolution as low as 10 µm. MATLAB grey value extraction and SPSS analysis showed that cortex of CGN group (91 to 112) lost more grey value compared to the control group (121 to 141), T tests P < 0.05. Equivalant cortical ROI (data points 450 x 80) quantitative analysis showed that gross grey value of CGN group (ranking from 55 to 160) was smaller than the control group (ranking from 75 to 175).DEI images correlatedwell with pathologic images. Morphological changes in the microstructure of CGN kidney was revealed, due to the advantage of phase-contrast imaging (PCI) mechanism, and the diagnostic value of CGN by synchrotron radiation (SR) phase-contrast imaging (PCI) technology was evaluated. CONCLUSION: Synchrotron radiation (SR) diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) experiment makes non-contrast CGN diagnosis possible in the rabbit model studied. With improvement of laboratory equipment and image analyzer in clinical practice, diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) could fundamentally become a new diagnostic method for CGN. Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate the impact of laparoscopic converted to open colectomy on short-term and oncologic outcomes and to identify risk factors for long-term survival in patients undergoing colectomy for non-metastatic colon cancer. Methods: A prospective database of consecutive operations for non-metastatic colon cancer was reviewed. Patients were grouped as conversion (CONV) group, completed laparoscopic resection (LAP) group, or open resection (OPEN) group. The clinical and perioperative parameters, pathologic features, and oncologic outcomes were collected. Univariate analysis was performed for comparing these data. Patients without evidence of recurrence at last follow-up or still alive at the end of study period were censored. Kaplan-Meier curves were utilized to analyze survival. A multivariate analysis was performed to identify predictors of poor disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). Results: The conversion rate was 15.2 %. The most common reason for conversion was locally advanced cancer (45.5 %). Converted patients were associated with a longer operative time (188 ± 29.1 min, P < 0.001), greater blood loss (147 ± 14 mL, P < 0.001), and a higher rate of intra-operative complications (15.2 %, P = 0.042) compared to the completely laparoscopic or open patients. Days to flatus, early ambulation, and length of hospitalization were significantly shorter in completed laparoscopic resection (LAP) group ( P < 0.001); however, the outcomes were comparable between conversion (CONV) and open resection (OPEN) groups. The incidence of wound infection was significantly higher in the OPEN group than in the LAP group ( P = 0.005), whereas there were no significant differences observed between the CONV group and the OPEN group ( P = 1.000) or between the LAP group and the CONV group ( P = 0.073). The 5-year DFS in CONV patients (46.5 %) was comparable to LAP patients (55.5 %, P = 0.138) and OPEN patients (59.1 %, P = 0.113). Moreover, there were no significant differences noted in terms of the 5-year OS in the CONV group (56.7 %) compared to the LAP group (67.3 %, P = 0.317) or the OPEN group (66.3 %, P = 0.420). The multivariate analysis showed that pT3-4 cancer ( P < 0.001) and poor differentiation ( P < 0.001) were independent predictors of both lower OS and lower DFS, whereas leakage ( P = 0.008) and lack of adjuvant chemotherapy ( P = 0.023) were independent risk factors only of lower DFS. This paper is concerned with an efficient global optimization algorithm for solving a kind of fractional program problem (P), whose objective and constraints functions are all defined as the sum of ratios generalized polynomial functions. The proposed algorithm is a combination of the branch-and-bound search and two reduction operations, based on an equivalent monotonic optimization problem of (P). The proposed reduction operations specially offer a possibility to cut away a large part of the currently investigated region in which the global optimal solution of (P) does not exist, which can be seen as an accelerating device for the solution algorithm of (P). Furthermore, numerical results show that the computational efficiency is improved by using these operations in the number of iterations and the overall execution time of the algorithm, compared with other methods. Additionally, the convergence of the algorithm is presented, and the computational issues that arise in implementing the algorithm are discussed. This paper presents a global optimization algorithm for solving globally the generalized nonlinear multiplicative programming (MP) with a nonconvex constraint set. The algorithm uses a branch and bound scheme based on an equivalently reverse convex programming problem. As a result, in the computation procedure the main work is solving a series of linear programs that do not grow in size from iterations to iterations. Further several key strategies are proposed to enhance solution production, and some of them can be used to solve a general reverse convex programming problem. This paper presents a global optimization algorithm for solving the signomial geometric programming (SGP) problem. Generalized geometric programming (GGP) problems occur frequently in engineering design and management, but most existing methods for solving GGP actually only consider continuous variables. This article presents a new branch-and-bound algorithm for globally solving GGP problems with discrete variables. For minimizing the problem, an equivalent monotonic optimization problem (P) with discrete variables is presented by exploiting the special structure of GGP. In the algorithm, the lower bounds are computed by solving ordinary linear programming problems that are derived via a linearization technique. In contrast to pure branch-and-bound methods, the algorithm can perform a domain reduction cut per iteration by using the monotonicity of problem (P), which can suppress the rapid growth of branching tree in the branch-and-bound search so that the performance of the algorithm is further improved. A penetrating view of the three-dimensional nanostructure of female spermatheca and male flagellum in the species Aleochara verna is obtained with 100-nm resolution using a hard X-ray microscope, which provides a fast noninvasive imaging technology for insect morphology. Through introducing Zernike phase contrast and heavy metal staining, images taken at 8 keV displayed sufficient contrast for observing nanoscale fine structures, such as the spermatheca cochleate duct and the subapex of the flagellum, which have some implications for the study of the sperm transfer process and genital evolution in insects. This work shows that both the spatial resolution and the contrast characteristic of hard X-ray microscopy are quite promising for insect morphology studies and, particularly, provide an attractive alternative to the destructive techniques used for investigating internal soft tissues. Objectives: To determine whether phase-contrast X-ray imaging can be used to visualise directly the accumulated extracellular matrix proteins associated with liver fibrosis in common bile duct ligated mice. Methods: Twenty-six-week-old C57BL female mice were randomised into three groups. In groups 1 ( n = 5) and 2 ( n = 10), common bile duct ligation was conducted to produce secondary biliary cirrhosis. Mouse livers were then excised 15 (group 1) and 40 days (group 2) after the ligation of the common bile duct for imaging. In the control group, the livers of 5 mice were excised 40 days after the sham operation. Images were then acquired using the analyser crystal set at different positions of the rocking curve. Results: The results show that the fibrotic septa and hepatic lobules enclosed by fibrotic septa can be visualised clearly at the whole organ level via phase-contrast X-ray imaging without any contrast agent. Conclusion: These results suggest that phase-contrast X-ray imaging can easily reveal the accumulated extracellular matrix proteins associated with liver fibrosis without using any contrast agent and has great potential in the study of liver fibrosis. Grating-based X-ray phase contrast imaging has been demonstrated to be an extremely powerful phase-sensitive imaging technique. By using two-dimensional (2D) gratings, the observable contrast is extended to two refraction directions. Recently, we have developed a novel reverse-projection (RP) method, which is capable of retrieving the object information efficiently with one-dimensional (1D) grating-based phase contrast imaging. In this contribution, we present its extension to the 2D grating-based X-ray phase contrast imaging, named the two-dimensional reverseprojection (2D-RP) method, for information retrieval. The method takes into account the nonlinear contributions of two refraction directions and allows the retrieval of the absorption, the horizontal and the vertical refraction images. The obtained information can be used for the reconstruction of the three-dimensional phase gradient field, and for an improved phase map retrieval and reconstruction. We propose a method for reconstructing a complex field from a series of its near-field diffraction patterns. This method is based on the paraxial Fresnel diffraction equation without making further approximations. Numerical simulations are presented showing that a complex field can even be reconstructed with moderate qualities from its two near-field diffraction patterns and almost exact reconstructions can be obtained when three or more diffraction patterns are used. We also show by numerical simulation that the correct diffraction distances can be recovered in case only coarsely measured values are available. Systemic delivery of fenretinide in oral cancer chemoprevention trials has been largely unsuccessful due to dose-limiting toxicities and subtherapeutic intraoral drug levels. Local drug delivery, however, provides site-specific therapeutically relevant levels while minimizing systemic exposure. These studies evaluated the pharmacokinetic and growth-modulatory parameters of fenretinide mucoadhesive patch application on rabbit buccal mucosa. Fenretinide and blank-control patches were placed on right/left buccal mucosa, respectively, in eight rabbits (30 min, q.d., 10 days). No clinical or histological deleterious effects occurred. LC-MS/MS analyses of post-treatment samples revealed a delivery gradient with highest fenretinide levels achieved at the patch-mucosal interface (no metabolites), pharmacologically active levels in fenretinide-treated oral mucosa (mean: 5.65 μM; trace amounts of 4-oxo-4-HPR) and undetectable sera levels. Epithelial markers for cell proliferation (Ki-67), terminal differentiation (transglutaminase 1—TGase1) and glucuronidation (UDP-glucuronosyltransferase1A1—UGT1A1) exhibited fenretinide concentration-specific relationships (elevated TGase1 and UGT1A1 levels <5 μM, reduced Ki-67 indices >5μM) relative to blank-treated epithelium. All fenretinide-treated tissues showed significantly increased intraepithelial apoptosis (TUNEL) positivity, implying activation of intersecting apoptotic and differentiation pathways. Human oral mucosal correlative studies showed substantial interdonor variations in levels of the enzyme (cytochrome P450 3A4—CYP3A4) responsible for conversion of fenretinide to its highly active metabolite, 4-oxo-4-HPR. Complementary in vitro assays in human oral keratinocytes revealed fenretinide and 4-oxo-4-HPR’s preferential suppression of DNA synthesis in dysplastic as opposed to normal oral keratinocytes. Collectively, these data showed that mucoadhesive patch-mediated fenretinide delivery is a viable strategy to reintroduce a compound known to induce keratinocyte differentiation to human oral cancer chemoprevention trials. Well-defined polydimethylsiloxane- block-polystyrene (PDMS- b-PS) diblock copolymers were prepared by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization using a functional PDMS-macro RAFT agent. The RAFT polymerization kinetics was simulated by a mathematical model for the RAFT polymerization in a batch reactor based on the method of moments. The model described molecular weight, monomer conversion, and polydispersity index as a function of polymerization time. Good agreements in the polymerization kinetics were achieved for fitting the kinetic profiles with the developed model. To determine if solid lipid nanoparticles represent a viable strategy for local delivery of poorly water soluble and unstable chemopreventive compounds to human oral tissues. Nanoparticle uptake and compound retention evaluations employed monolayer-cultured human oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell lines and normal human oral mucosal explants. Feasibility of nanoparticle delivery was also evaluated with respect to the presence of phase-III efflux transporters in normal oral mucosal tissue and OSCC tissues. Functional uptake assays confirmed significantly greater internalization of nanoparticle-delivered fluorescent probe relative to free-fluorescent probe delivery, while concurrently demonstrating nanoparticle uptake rate differences among the OSCC cell lines and the phagocytic control human monocyte cell line. Mucosal explants exhibited nanoparticle penetration and internalization in the spinous and basal epithelial layers (7/10 specimens), and also exhibited the presence of the phase-III efflux transporters multidrug resistance-associated protein 1 (MRP1) and breast cancer resistance protein (BCRP). These data confirm nanoparticle internalization by OSCC cells and support the premise that nanoparticle-based delivery provides higher final intracellular levels relative to bolus administration. Furthermore, the penetration and subsequent internalization of nanoparticles within the proliferating basal layer cells demonstrates the feasibility of nanoparticle formulations for local delivery and stabilization of oral chemopreventive compounds. Well‐defined poly(dimethylsiloxane‐b‐styrene) diblock copolymers were prepared by reversible addition–fragmentation chain‐transfer (RAFT) polymerization. Monohydroxyl‐terminated polydimethylsiloxane was modified to form a functional polydimethylsiloxane/macro‐RAFT agent, which was reacted with styrene to form the diblock copolymers. The chemical compositions and structures of the copolymers were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography. Huanglongbing, commonly known as citrus greening, is a devastating disease of citrus worldwide. Candidatus liberibacter asiaticus is the putative cause of citrus greening disease in China and is spread through the process of plant grafting and feeding by insect vectors. Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri) is a destructive pest due to insecticide resistance development and the main cause of dissemination of Huanglongbing. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of Huanglongbing present in Guangdong province and the acquisition of the pathogen by D. citri through feeding. Six different city areas of Guangdong province were sampled. The results demonstrated that Yunfu currently has the highest infestation rate of CLas in Guangdong province, followed by Chaozhou, Jiangmen, and Foshan. In comparison, Zhongshan and Maoming have the lowest infestation rates. Results also showed that CLas acquisition was directly proportional to the insect feeding duration. The longer an insect fed on an infested plant, the more CLas it acquired. The acquisition efficiency of the pathogen was higher at night compared to during the daytime. During the time period of 15:00–07:00 D. citri acquires more pathogens than during the period of 07:00–15:00. This study provides a basic understanding of the feeding pattern of D. citri, which aids in devising a management program for effective control of direct and indirect losses caused by D. citri. In this paper, a branch and bound approach is proposed for global optimization problem (P) of the sum of generalized polynomial fractional functions under generalized polynomial constraints, which arises in various practical problems. Due to its intrinsic difficulty, less work has been devoted to globally solving this problem. By utilizing an equivalent problem and some linear underestimating approximations, a linear relaxation programming problem of the equivalent form is obtained. Consequently, the initial non-convex nonlinear problem (P) is reduced to a sequence of linear programming problems through successively refining the feasible region of linear relaxation problem. The proposed algorithm is convergent to the global minimum of the primal problem by means of the solutions to a series of linear programming problems. As a novel imaging method, X-ray diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) has extremely high sensitivity for weakly absorbing biological soft tissues. Recently, biomedical application research about DEI and computed tomography of DEI (DEI-CT) has become a hot issue. In this paper, a novel visualization method of micro biomedical structures is presented, which uses DEI-CT techniques to study guinea pig cochleae. The acquired DEI images clearly displayed the spiral structures and inner details of the guinea pig cochleae. DEI-CT reconstructions were obtained from the peak projection data and refraction angle projection data of guinea pig cochleae. Based on DEI-CT reconstructions, we implemented three-dimensional visualization of guinea pig cochleae. Moreover, visualization of guinea pig cochlea based on color images of the histological sections was performed for comparison with the results of DEI-CT. The advantages and limitations of the two methods in visualizing guinea pig cochleae are also discussed. To evaluate the value of phase contrast x-ray imaging (PCI) with a synchrotron radiation (SR) source in which we performed hepatic imaging in the 4W1A beamline of Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF). The hepatic specimens from a SD mouse, a normal adult and a biliary cirrhosis patient were imaged with the diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI) technique. We showed that the three grade vessel branches in the mouse, the hepatic lobule of the normal adult and the enlarged bile ducts of the biliary cirrhosis patient could all be clearly revealed with the DEI technique. AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma (AIDS-KS), the most prevalent HIV-associated malignancy, is a debilitating, potentially fatal disease. Currently, there is a need for development of AIDS-KS therapies that are not only well tolerated, but also capable of providing sustained remission. Preclinical assessment of pharmacological parameters and therapeutic efficacies are dependent upon in vivo parameters. However, there are currently no animal KS models and mucocutaneous KS cell isolates have proved to be non-tumorigenic in animal hosts. This report describes the development of a murine model that enables in vivo transplantation of `native' low population doubling level AIDS-KS cells from biopsy-confirmed mucocutaneous lesions. The angiogenic phenotype of in situ AIDS-KS lesions is reconstituted via controlled release of a complete angiogenic peptide, recombinant human basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), from locally injectable, biodegradable polylactide–co-glycolide implants. Consequential to the sustained local release of bioactive bFGF, a murine vascular network is established, which facilitates the in vivo transplantation of AIDS-KS cells. Desirable aspects of this model include: low cost murine species, transplantation of non-selected patient cells and use of animal hosts that are T cell-deficient. The transplanted human AIDS-KS cells and extensive murine vascular network create lesions that retain a striking resemblance, at both the gross and microscopic levels, to in situ AIDS-KS tumors. Because the bFGF-induced murine vascular network is analogous to the abundant vascularity present in AIDS-KS lesions, this murine model should provide an excellent vehicle for numerous clinically relevant studies, such as assessment of drug clearance at AIDS-KS lesional sites. Finally, applicability of this method is not restricted to AIDS-related malignancies. A commercial deep learning (DL)-based automated segmentation tool (AST) for computed tomography (CT) is evaluated for accuracy and efficiency gain within prostate cancer patients. Thirty patients from six clinics were reviewed with manual- (MC), automated- (AC) and automated and edited (AEC) contouring methods. In the AEC group, created contours (prostate, seminal vesicles, bladder, rectum, femoral heads and penile bulb) were edited, whereas the MC group included empty datasets for MC. In one clinic, lymph node CTV delineations were evaluated for interobserver variability. Compared to MC, the mean time saved using the AST was 12 min for the whole data set (46%) and 12 min for the lymph node CTV (60%), respectively. The delineation consistency between MC and AEC groups according to the Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) improved from 0.78 to 0.94 for the whole data set and from 0.76 to 0.91 for the lymph nodes. The mean DSCs between MC and AC for all six clinics were 0.82 for prostate, 0.72 for seminal vesicles, 0.93 for bladder, 0.84 for rectum, 0.69 for femoral heads and 0.51 for penile bulb.
