Background: Haemophilus influenza persists as a well-known root of ill health in children throughout the entire world. Before the introduction of the vaccine, Haemophilus influenza remained a well-known and eminent source of septic arthritis, pneumonia, and epiglotti tis. Haemophilus influenza, Neisseria meningitides, and staphylococcus pneumonia spreads through respiratory droplets and cause diseases such as meningitis, pneumonia, and other secondary infections related to respiratory diseases. Objective was to analyze the 3D structure of the protein of Haemophilus influenzae by homology modelling to design antibiotics. Methods: For the effective study of protein, computational tools were used to investigate protein structure and function, Comprehensive microbial resource (CMR) for comparative modelling, Interproscan, BLAST for sequence similarity searching, MODELLER 9.10 for homology modeling, Procheck and Protein Structure Analysis (ProSA) software for assessing model quality and structural validation. Results: The model showed that it consists of three alpha helices (red) and one beta-sheet. Ramachandran Plot statistics show that 97.4% of the debris is in the favoured region, 0% in the additional allowed region, 2.65% in the generally allowed part, and 0% in the disallowed part. Stability and energy were checked through ProSa. Z score was highly negative which showed that the model is highly stable. The greater the negative value, the more will be the stability of the model. Conclusion: Cell division protein H11025 was selected. The structure was modelled which has provided all the required information to design antibiotics to control the harmful effects regarding that protein. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to the environmental policy adopted by the European Union (EU), EU countries are obliged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. They reduce emissions largely through the energy transformation and switching to renewable energy sources (RES). Therefore, it is important to assess the progress of the energy transformation of individual EU countries. This is related to the aim of the article, which is a temporal analysis of the energy transformation process towards the transition to RES and reducing the use of fossil fuels in energy production. To achieve this goal, a new Temporal/Dynamic Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (T/DMCDM) method called Temporal PROSA was developed, based on the PROMETHEE and PROSA family of methods. The Temporal PROSA method, unlike many other T/DMCDM methods, enables the aggregation of data from many periods into a single final assessment, as well as the direct transfer of information from the examined periods to the overall result. As a result of the research, EU countries that dominated in terms of progress in energy transformation towards RES in the years 2004–2021were identified. Based on the data and methodology used, it was indicated that these countries are primarily Sweden and Portugal, and recently also Denmark and Finland. On the other hand, countries such as Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Luxembourg, and Poland made the least progress between 2004 and 2021. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent years, the share of PV (photovoltaic) panels in the generation of renewable energy has been dynamically growing. During this time, the Polish government introduced numerous programs to assist households in switching to PV panels as the primary source of energy. Therefore, the aim of the article is to indicate the PV panels that are best suited to work for individual users in households in Poland. PV panels were assessed using the PROSA multi-criteria decision analysis method, supported by a stochastic approach, based on the Monte Carlo method. This approach made it possible to choose the most balanced solutions, in terms of individual criteria, and to take into account the uncertainty and imprecision of the weights of the assessment criteria. In particular, the use of reliable weight ranges in the Monte Carlo simulations allowed the construction of a whole spectrum of evaluation and ranking models. These models indicate the PV panels that best meet the requirements and have the best balance between the individual assessment criteria. As a result of the research, it was found that the requirements of PV installations in households in Poland are best met by panels produced in China and in the Chinese–Polish cooperation. Panels of Polish production ranked further down, which means that Polish producers do not offer products that are tailored to the needs of PV installations for households in Poland. The main dilemma in the case of classification tasks is to find—from among many combinations of methods, techniques and values of their parameters—such a structure of the classifier model that could achieve the best accuracy and efficiency. The aim of the article is to develop and practically verify a framework for multi-criteria evaluation of classification models for the purposes of credit scoring. The framework is based on the Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method called PROSA (PROMETHEE for Sustainability Analysis), which brought added value to the modelling process, allowing the assessment of classifiers to include the consistency of the results obtained on the training set and the validation set, and the consistency of the classification results obtained for the data acquired in different time periods. The study considered two aggregation scenarios of TSC (Time periods, Sub-criteria, Criteria) and SCT (Sub-criteria, Criteria, Time periods), in which very similar results were obtained for the evaluation of classification models. The leading positions in the ranking were taken by borrower classification models using logistic regression and a small number of predictive variables. The obtained rankings were compared to the assessments of the expert team, which turned out to be very similar. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) is a common pregnancy complication that occurs in 0.3–2% of pregnancies. Growth/Differentiation Factor (GDF) 15 serum levels are abnormally high in patients associated with HG. In silico analysis provides information about structure and function of GDF15. Aim and Objectives: The aim of this study was to enlist biochemical and functional properties of GDF15 protein and determine its three-dimensional structure, as GDF15 is known to be associated with risk of HG. Material and Methods: The PDB file of GDF15 [NP_004855] was created by RaptorX structure prediction server. The UCLA-DOE server was used to visual analysis of crystal structure of protein. The validation for structure models was performed by using PROCHECK. Model quality estimates were based on the QMEAN and ProSA. Results: The model showed good stereo-chemical property in terms of G-factor value -0.64, that indicates geometry of model corresponds to probability conformation with 95% residue in the favored region of Ramachandran plot, showing high accuracy of model prediction. The Z-score of -4.04 predicted by ProSA represents the good quality of the model. The energy plot shows the local model quality by plotting knowledge-based energies as a function of amino acid sequence position. Conclusion: The generated model could be supportive to understand the structure and functional characteristics of Homo sapiens growth/differentiation factor 15 [NP_004855]. As abnormal high serum levels of GDF15 were observe in patients associated with HG. Therefore, the structure model of GDF15 [NP_004855] is useful to understand its role in development of HG. In Silico docking study could be explain the molecular association of GDF15 [NP_004855] with HG and new drug designing, for that structure model is very useful. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Gravitational shunt valves and most recently the adjustable proSA® gravitational valve have been designed to counteract overdrainage and thereby improving clinical outcome. So far, the applicability in a broader mix of hydrocephalus patients is unrevealed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the utility of gravitational valves in two different clinical settings. Methods: This retrospective double-center cohort study was enabled by two different shunt management policies. At Rigshospitalet, patients with a complicated shunt history receiving a proGAV® and proSA® shunt system during surgical revision were included, and clinical outcome in the follow-up periods before and after was compared. At Aarhus University Hospital, a combination of a proGAV® and a fixed (SA®) or adjustable (proSA®) gravitational valve was used in all shunt procedures. Clinical outcome in a 2-year follow-up period was compared to a cohort receiving non-gravitational valves in the period before the transition to gravitational valves. Results: Twenty-two patients were included at Rigshospitalet. Mean follow-up time before and after proGAV® and proSA® implantation was 2.3 and 1.5 years, respectively. In each patient, roughly two surgical revisions (p 0.031) and two hospitalizations (p 0.009) were avoided each year after proGAV® and proSA® implantation. At Aarhus University Hospital, 90 patients with non-gravitational valves and 98 patients with gravitational valves were included. Changes in clinical outcome parameters and shunt survivals were either stable or statistically insignificant. Conclusions: Gravitational valves are safe and useful in clinical practice and represent an equivalent alternative as a first-line shunt valve in a broad mix of patients, while proSA® valves should be considered for complex shunt patients. WIND power ,OFFSHORE wind power plants ,SUSTAINABILITY ,RENEWABLE energy sources - Abstract
Wind is the most used renewable energy source (RES) in the European Union and Poland. Due to the legal changes in the scope of RES in Poland, there are plans to develop offshore wind farms at the expense of onshore ones. On the other hand, the success of an offshore wind farm is primarily determined by its location. Therefore, the aim of this study is to select offshore wind farm locations in Poland, based on sustainability assessment, which is an inherent aspect of RES decision-making issues. To accomplish the objectives of this research, PROSA (PROMETHEE for Sustainability Assessment) method, a new multi-criteria method is proposed. Like PROMETHEE (Preference Ranking Organization METHod for Enrichment Evaluation), PROSA is transparent for decision makers and is easy to use; moreover, it provides the analytical tools available in PROMETHEE, i.e., the sensitivity and GAIA (Geometrical Analysis for Interactive Assistance) analyses. However, PROSA is characterized by a lower degree of criteria compensation than PROMETHEE. Thus, it adheres in a higher degree to the strong sustainability paradigm. The study also compared the solutions of the decision problem obtained with the use of PROSA and PROMETHEE methods. The compared methods demonstrated a high concurrence of the recommended decision-making variant of location selection, from methodological and practical points of view. At the same time, the conducted research allowed to confirm that the PROSA method recommends more sustainable decision-making variants, and that the ranking it builds is less sensitive to changes in criteria weights. Therefore, it is more stable than the PROMETHEE-based ranking. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hereditary angioedema (giant hives) is an autosomal dominant malady characterized by repetitive episodes of probably life-threatening angioedema due to a partial deficiency of C1 inhibitor. B2 Bradykinin Receptor's (BKRB2) amino acid sequence is deposited within UniProt under accession number P30411. The Physicochemical properties of BKRB2 sequence are determined by using ProtParam. BKRB2's secondary structure was predicted through PROTEUS. Pfam domain was used for functional characterization of BKRB2. PSI-BLAST was used to find homologs of known structure. Modelling by satisfaction of spatial restraints, either uses distance geometry or optimization techniques to satisfy spatial restraints performed by MODELLER. The quality of the generated model was evaluated with PROCHECK by Ramachandran plot analysis. Validation of the generated models was further performed by WHAT IF. ProSA was used for the analysis of Z-scores and energy plots. The 3D structures of the modeled proteins were analyzed using UCSF Chimera. Clustal Omega is used for multiple sequence alignment that uses seeded guide trees and HMM profile-profile techniques to generate alignments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Despite progress in shunt valve technology, CSF overdrainage is still one of the most frequent complications in shunt-treated hydrocephalus. Particularly with regard to young and adolescent patients, treatment of manifest overdrainage is complicated by several hardly influenceable factors such as increasing height and mobility. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic efficiency of the new adjustable gravitational valve, proSA. Methods: Sixty-four shunt-treated young hydrocephalus patients aged 1.8-41.4 years (15.5 ± 10.5 years) suffering from clinical and/or radiological overdrainage underwent shunt revision surgery with the implantation of the new proSA valve. Clinical outcome after a 1-year follow-up period, pumping function of the valve chambers as well as the number of necessary postoperative valve adjustments were examined. Results: Fifty-five patients completed the study as planned. All reported a significant improvement of their clinical condition; 91 % described a complete resolution in symptoms related to overdrainage. Preoperatively, more than 85 % of the valve chambers showed no or very slow refilling with CSF. After a year of proSA treatment, more than 90 % exhibited a normal valve chamber function. During the follow-up period, a total of 136 valve adjustments were necessary. None of the proSA valves had to be surgically revised. Conclusions: The postoperative adjustability of the opening pressure level is the advantage of the new gravitational valve. The good clinical outcome is attributed to the new valve technology. The proSA appears to be a promising shunt valve to overcome overdrainage in adolescent and adult hydrocephalus patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of exploring protein interactions between human adenovirus and heat shock protein 70 is to exploit a potentially synergistic interaction to enhance anti-tumoral efficacy and decrease toxicity in cancer treatment. However, the protein interaction of Hsp70 with E1A32 kDa of human adenovirus serotype 5 remains to be elucidated. In this study, two residues of ATPase domain of human heat shock 70 kDa protein 1 (PDB: 1 HJO) were mutated. 3D mutant models (K71L and T204V) using PyMol software were then constructed. The structures were evaluated by PROCHECK, ProQ, ERRAT, Verify 3D and ProSA modules. All evidence suggests that all protein models are acceptable and of good quality. The E1A32 kDa motif was retrieved from UniProt (P03255), as well as subjected to docking interaction with NBD, K71L and T204V, using the Autodock 4.2 program. The best lowest binding energy value of -9.09 kcal/mol was selected for novel T204V. Moreover, the protein-ligand complex structures were validated by RMSD, RMSF, hydrogen bonds and salt bridge analysis. This revealed that the T204V-E1A32 kDa motif complex was the most stable among all three complex structures. This study provides information about the interaction between Hsp70 and the E1A32 kDa motif, which emphasizes future perspectives to design rational drugs and vaccines in cancer therapy. Greening the German book industry is a large-scale task. This article, based in part on the results of a one-day conference titled 'Bio im Bücherregal?' (Engl. translation: 'Eco-friendly products on the bookshelf?') that was held in Mainz in January 2013, considers different perspectives on green publishing in Germany and presents the status quo as well as an outlook. After a brief historical and theoretical overview on the media and the environmental movement, the article presents current developments such as the initiative 'Nachhaltig Publizieren' ('Green Publishing'). Initiated in 2011 by the publisher Oekom, the project has become a catalyst for the green publishing movement in Germany. In addition, this contribution introduces publishers and imprints, in particular of children's books, that strive to fulfill the highest possible criteria for green publishing in certain project areas. Finally, the close connection between green publishing and green content is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PRODUCTION planning ,VENDORS (Real property) ,COMPUTER software ,DECISION making ,MATHEMATICAL optimization - Abstract
Supply chain (SC) coordination can be pursued by adopting a centralized or decentralized decision-making approach. In recent years, new software architecture for managing the supply chain at the tactical and operational levels has emerged. It views the supply chain as a set of intelligent software agents, each responsible to perform one or more activities in the supply chain while interacting and negotiating with other agents in the planning and execution of these responsibilities. This paper describes a practical system framework for coordination activities in a buyer–vendor chain to determine the best decision making in the chain using the holonic paradigm. In the present article, while reference is made to the holonic paradigm, its related concepts as well as the implementation aspects of the mentioned paradigm within a supply chain are discussed. Throughout the article, as we try to cast light on the Product-Resource-Order-Staff Architecture of this approach, attention is paid to the operational advancements of the model in order for the model to be responsive to the needs of coordination of product and information flows within a buyer–vendor chain under present stochastic environments. The proposed holonic model in this article makes use of intelligent agents and mathematical models to build decision-making models in the proposed holons, as well as solution algorithms, negotiation mechanisms, and coordination-expanded policies in the mentioned architecture. Numerical studies are also provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed models and methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ELECTRIC vehicles ,STATE governments ,LOCAL government ,MONTE Carlo method ,SUSTAINABLE development - Abstract
Increasing the popularity of electric vehicles is one way of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and making the economy more sustainable. In Poland, the use of electric vehicles is to be increased by the adoption of the Act on Electromobility and Alternative Fuels. This Act obliges local government units and state administration to expand the electric vehicle fleet. The expansion of the fleet should be carried out on a planned basis, based on rational decisions supported by economic analyses. Therefore, the aim of this article is to provide a recommendation of an electric vehicle that meets the needs of local and state administration to the greatest extent possible. The aim has been achieved using the multi-criteria decision analysis method called PROSA-C (PROMETHEE for Sustainability Assessment—Criteria) combined with the Monte Carlo method. The PROSA-C method allows promoting more sustainable vehicles with high technical, economic, environmental and social parameters. The Monte Carlo method, on the other hand, is a stochastic simulation tool that allows for taking into account the uncertainty of parameters describing vehicles. As a result of the research, the most and least attractive vehicles were identified from the perspective of the needs of local government units and state administration. Moreover, the conducted research allowed confirming the effectiveness and usefulness of the research methodology proposed in the article and the procedural approach combining the PROSA-C and Monte Carlo methods.
