The extinction risk of the giant panda has been demoted from "endangered" to "vulnerable" on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List, but its habitat is more fragmented than ever before, resulting in 33 isolated giant panda populations according to the fourth national survey released by the Chinese government. Further comprehensive investigations of the genetic background and in-depth assessments of the conservation status of wild populations are still necessary and urgently needed. Here, we sequenced the genomes of 612 giant pandas with an average depth of ~26x and generated a high-resolution map of genomic variation with more than 20 million variants covering wild individuals from six mountain ranges and captive representatives in China. We identified distinct genetic clusters within the Minshan population by performing a fine-grained genetic structure. The estimation of inbreeding and genetic load associated with historical population dynamics suggested that future conservation efforts should pay special attention to the Qinling and Liangshan populations. Releasing captive individuals with a genetic background similar to the recipient population appears to be an advantageous genetic rescue strategy for recovering the wild giant panda populations, as this approach introduces fewer deleterious mutations into the wild population than mating with differentiated lineages. Nowadays, the rapid development of the social economy inevitably leads to global energy and environmental crisis. For this reason, more and more scholars focus on the development of photocatalysis and/or electrocatalysis technology for the advantage in the sustainable production of high-value-added products, and the high efficiency in pollutants remediation. Although there is plenty of outstanding research has been put forward continuously, most of them focuses on catalysis performance and reaction mechanisms in laboratory conditions. Realizing industrial application of photo/electrocatalytic processes is still a challenge that needs to be overcome by social demand. In this regard, this review comprehensively summarized several explorations in the field of photo/electrocatalytic reduction towards potential industrial applications in recent years. Special attention is paid to the successful attempts and the current status of photo/electrocatalytic water splitting, carbon dioxide conversion, resource utilization from waste, etc., by using advanced reactors. The key problems and challenges of photo/electrocatalysis in future industrial practice are also discussed, and the possible development directions are also pointed out from the industry view. Objective: To determine the effect of adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with stage I mucinous ovarian cancer (MOC) undergoing fertility-preserving surgery. Patients and methods: The clinicopathological characteristics and survival information of young women with stage I MOC from SEER databases between 2004 and 2019 were collected. The relationship between chemotherapy and the characteristics was examined by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Univariable and multivariate Cox proportional hazards survival analysis were employed for cancer-specific survival. Cox analysis was performed to build a nomogram model. Results: All 901 eligible patients with stage I MOC were screened from the SEER database. There were 321(35.6%) patients aged 9-30 years, 580(64.4%) aged 31-45 years, 645 (71.6%) patients with stage IA/IB, 256 (28.4%) with stage IC disease, 411(45.6%) who underwent fertility-sparing surgery, and276(30.6%) who received postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that postoperative chemotherapy was often used in patients aged 31-45 relative to aged 9-30 (HR: 2.215, 95%CI 1.443-3.401, P < 0.001) or with grade 3 compared to grade 1 tumors (HR: 7.382, 95%CI 4.054-13.443, P < 0.001) or with stage IC compared to stage IA/IB (HR: 6.436, 95%CI 4.515-9.175, P < 0.001) or with non-fertility sparing surgery relative to fertility-sparing (HR:2.226, 95%CI 1.490-3.327, P < 0.001). Multivariate analysis for the special population with fertility preservation indicated that patients with chemotherapy (HR: 2.905, 95% CI: 0.938-6.030, P=0.068) or with grade 3 (HR: 4.750, 95% CI: 1.419-15.896, P=0.011) had a greater risk of mortality. Significant CSS differences were observed between the non-chemotherapy and chemotherapy groups in MOC when patients were stage IA/IB-grade 2 (P=0.004) (10-year CSS rates of chemotherapy=84%, non-chemotherapy = 100%), but not when they were stage IA/IB-grade 1, stage IA/IB-grade 3 or stage IC (both P>0.05). A prognostic prediction nomogram model was built for stage I MOC patient who underwent fertility-sparing and the C-index was 0.709. Discussion: The patients aged 31-45 years, with grade 3, stage IC, and nonfertility-sparing surgery were more likely to receive adjuvant chemotherapy in the real world. For stage I MOC patient who underwent fertility-sparing surgery, the choice of chemotherapy may increase the risk of death, and it should be carefully selected in clinical practice. Here, we present new evidence that evolutionary adaptation of the Ailuripodinae lineage to bamboo diet has taken place by morphological adaptations in the masticatory system. The giant panda in the wild and in captivity removes without an exception the outer skin of all bamboo shoots, rich in abrasive and toxic compounds, by the highly adapted premolars P3 and P4. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) allows sidewise movement of the jaw and the premolars can, in a cusp-to-cusp position, remove the poorly digestible outer skin of the bamboo before crushing the bamboo with molars. Based on the evidence presented here, we suggest that adaptation of TMJ to lateral movement for enabling cusp-to-cusp contact of premolars is the crucial evolutionary factor as which we consider the key to understand the Ailuropodinae lineage adaptive pathway to utilize the bamboo resource. Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is one of the most common tumor types of the urinary system. Bioinformatics tools have been used to identify new biomarkers of ccRCC and to explore the mechanisms underlying development and progression of ccRCC. The present study analyzed the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with RCC using data obtained from Gene Expression Omnibus datasets and GEO2R software. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis of these DEGs was performed and analyzed using the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed using the Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes to identify the hub genes, defined as the genes with the highest degree of interrelation. Subsequently, differential expression and survival analyses of hub genes was performed using The Cancer Genome Atlas database and Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) online tool. Using GEO2R, 1,650 DEGs were identified, including 743 upregulated and 907 downregulated genes. GO and KEGG pathway analyses indicated that the upregulated DEGs were primarily involved in blood vessel and vasculature development, whereas downregulated DEGs were primarily involved in organic acid metabolic processes and carboxylic acid metabolic processes. Subsequently, important modules were identified in the PPI network using Cytoscape's Molecular Complex Detection. The 15 most connected hub genes were identified among DEGs, including glycine decarboxylase (GLDC), enolase 2 (ENO2) and topoisomerase II alpha. GEPIA revealed the association between expression levels of hub genes and survival. Specifically, GLDC and ENO2 were associated with the prognosis of patients with RCC and thus, the effects of GLDC and ENO2 involvement in renal cancer were investigated in vitro. GLDC and ENO2 affected the proliferation and apoptosis of renal cancer cells. Reintroduction is a valuable tool for conserving threatened species, and pre-release training is widely considered to be crucial for successful soft-release. However, little is known about how behaviours of pre-released giant panda cubs are affected by their mothers being provided with man-made provisioned food versus mothers that naturally forage. In this study, we monitored two pairs of mother-cub giant panda pairs in Hetaoping, Wolong National Nature Reserve, China. One mother giant panda's diet was supplemented with man-made food and the other had entirely natural foraging conditions. We investigated differences in the cubs' learning ability about habitat selection, their feces abundance, and home range patterns during pre-release training and acclimatization between the two conditions. The results indicate that the cub whose mother had entirely natural food (CN) selected similar microhabitat to its mother (MN). The cub whose mother was supplemented with man-made food (CMF) differed from its mother (MMF) preferring microhabitats with higher proportions of canopy coverage and areas closer to shelter. Compared to natural feeding conditions, provisioning a giant panda mother with man-made food seemed to impact cub microhabitat selection, especially in variables describing the amount of canopy cover, proximity to water resources, and grass coverage. CMF showed no difference in preference between bamboo edge habitat and interior habitat, which differed from other pandas previously studied. Similar to her mother, the home range of CMF was significantly less than CN. Our study suggests that provisioning giant panda with man-made food may hinder behavioural development, such as microhabitat and home range selection, of giant panda cubs during the acclimatization period. We recommend lessening human intervention as much as possible for future pre-release reintroduction training. Anthropogenic interference should be limited as much as possible in pre-release reintroduction training programs and managers should strive to provide conditions similar to those found in the species' natural range in order to provide the highest probability of success for the reintroduced individual. One of the most fundamental questions in animal ecology concerns the activity patterns of animals and the environmental and intrinsic factors that influence such dynamics. Activity patterns of the elusive and endangered giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) are not well understood. Using GPS collars equipped with dual-axis accelerometers on captive and wild giant pandas for the first time, we investigated the impact of day, season, and weather on wild panda activity in Wolong Nature Reserve, Sichuan, China. Most pandas were not crepuscular as previously reported but had 3 apparent activity peaks, in the morning, afternoon, and around midnight. We found a peak in panda activity in June, then an apparent decrease in August and September, followed by an increase again from November to March of the following year. Activity patterns roughly corresponded to mean daily movement distances across seasons and movement behavior in a GPS-collared captive panda (studied to establish a baseline for interpreting collar-recorded activity of wild pandas). There was greater activity in times of higher solar radiation throughout every season, especially under cold conditions. This result suggests the potential for climate change to impact panda behavior in ways not previously reported. Our analysis also suggests that pandas may be constrained by tight energy budgets from their low-nutrient diet and may adjust their energy budgets by modifying their activity time and level across seasons.
