This paper presents the results of a multi-method case study with a British police force carried out over a 2-year period examining the impacts of introducing body-worn cameras (BWCs). Our findings show that despite a broad enthusiasm for the potential of BWCs, police officers and staff in a British police force reported a series of unintended and undesirable consequences resulting from the introduction of BWCs. These impacts appear to have partly undermined some of the original intentions of introducing BWCs, such as improving policing standards, aiding prosecutorial processes thanks to improved evidential capture and reducing police officer workloads. The use of body-worn video in Police Forces in England and Wales is not new. On the whole, evaluations have been positive, although, there is little evidence regarding how beneficial the cameras can be in terms of how they impact on the everyday behaviours of police officers. This article looks at how the implementation of BWV into one police force in England impacted on the behaviour of those officers who wore the technology. While the dominant view is positive, concerns as to privacy infringements and the use of BWV footage as a potential tool for supervisory surveillance emerged. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Drawing on prison officers' accounts, this article addresses the extent to which the implementation of dynamic security and open cell regime has been successful in reforming Italian prisons. The article, based on a semi-ethnographic research in two prisons, sheds light on how the prison officers' cope with the new rehabilitation-oriented role. The uniformed staff's perceptions and experiences of the new regime are analysed, with a focus on the symbolic order produced over the rehabilitation and the effect of the complexity of the prison's setting. Along with deepening understandings about the humanization of prison security, this article explores how the prison officers' role and attitudes might impact and shape the idea of rehabilitation.
