An 8‐year‐old Leonberger receiving immunosuppressive treatment with clinical signs of acute dyspnea, cyanosis, and difficulty standing was referred to our institution (Day 1). Treatment including oxygen, clopidogrel, and low‐molecular‐weight heparin was initiated for suspected pulmonary thrombosis. However, exertional dyspnea persisted until Day 10, and increased tricuspid regurgitation velocity, pulmonary vascular resistance, and McConnell's signs also were observed. Thus, beraprost sodium was administered PO on Day 11 to treat suspected pulmonary hypertension. On Day 13, contrast‐enhanced computed tomography identified extensive contrast defects in the pulmonary arteries, and IV monteplase was administered on Days 14 and 18, with marked improvement in respiratory status and exertional dyspnea on Day 20. Right ventricular function and McConnell signs also improved, and tricuspid regurgitation velocity and pulmonary vascular resistance decreased. On Day 250, echocardiography indicated further improvement in pulmonary hypertension pathophysiology. Simple Summary: Pulmonary hypertension is a fatal comorbidity in dogs with left-sided heart disease. Various oral pulmonary vasodilators have been effective in treating canine pulmonary hypertension; however, no studies have compared their hemodynamic effects. This study compared the hemodynamic effects of selected pulmonary vasodilators (15 µg/kg beraprost, 1.0 mg/kg sildenafil, and their combination) in canine models of mitral regurgitation (the most common cardiac disease in dogs). Significant improvements in pulmonary hypertension were observed with all study drugs. Pulmonary vasodilating effects differed among the study's drugs. Sildenafil showed a more potent pulmonary vasodilating effect than beraprost; however, sildenafil significantly worsened the left-heart loading condition. Although beraprost showed a weaker pulmonary vasodilating effect than sildenafil, no significant worsening in the left-heart loading condition was observed. Combination therapy resulted in the strongest pulmonary and systemic vasodilating effects without worsening the left-heart loading condition. This study demonstrated the differences between beraprost and sildenafil in pulmonary and systemic vasodilating effects. Sildenafil involved the risk of worsening the left-heart load, although it was effective in treating pulmonary hypertension. Combination therapy with beraprost and sildenafil synergistically dilated the pulmonary and systemic vessels, indicating a more potent treatment option. Previous reports have shown that various oral pulmonary vasodilators are effective against canine pulmonary hypertension (PH). However, no studies have compared their hemodynamic effects. We aimed to compare the hemodynamic effects of 15 µg/kg beraprost sodium, 1.0 mg/kg sildenafil, and their combination, in dogs with experimentally induced mitral regurgitation. This experimental crossover study evaluated the hemodynamic and functional effects of oral pulmonary vasodilators by application of right-sided heart catheterization and echocardiography. Beraprost significantly decreased pulmonary and systemic vascular resistance. Additionally, beraprost increased right-ventricular stroke volume and left-ventricular cardiac output without worsening left-heart size and left-atrial pressure. The pulmonary vasodilatory effects of sildenafil were stronger, and its systemic vasodilatory effects were weaker than those of beraprost. However, sildenafil significantly increased the left-ventricular volume, left-atrial pressure indicator, and right-ventricular cardiac output. Combination therapy resulted in the strongest pulmonary and systemic vasodilating effects without worsening the left-heart size and left-atrial pressure indicators. Both beraprost and sildenafil were effective against canine PH; however, sildenafil was associated with the risk of worsening left-heart loading. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a promising cell source for stem cell therapy of intractable diseases in veterinary medicine, but donor-dependent cellular heterogeneity is an issue that influences therapeutic efficacy. Thus, we previously established immortalized cells that maintain the fundamental properties of primary cells, but functional evaluation had not been performed. Therefore, we evaluated the immunomodulatory capacity of the immortalized canine adipose-derived MSCs (cADSCs) in vitro and in vivo to investigate whether they maintain primary cell functions. C57BL/6J mice were treated with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) to induce colitis, injected intraperitoneally with immortalized or primary cADSCs on day 2 of DSS treatment, and observed for 10 days. Administration of immortalized cADSCs improved body weight loss and the disease activity index (DAI) in DSS-induced colitic mice by shifting peritoneal macrophage polarity from the M1 to M2 phenotype, suppressing T helper (Th) 1/Th17 cell responses and inducing regulatory T (Treg) cells. They also inhibited the proliferation of mouse and canine T cells in vitro. These immunomodulatory effects were comparable with primary cells. These results highlight the feasibility of our immortalized cADSCs as a cell source for stem cell therapy with stable therapeutic efficacy because they maintain the immunomodulatory capacity of primary cells. Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) secondary to respiratory disease is caused by pulmonary vascular remodeling and hypoxia. Severe PH can induce various clinical signs, including syncope and right‐sided heart failure. Hypothesis/Objectives: To investigate the echocardiographic characteristics in dogs with PH secondary to respiratory diseases. Animals: Thirty‐one dogs with respiratory diseases with or without PH and 15 healthy dogs. Methods: Prospective cross‐sectional study. Dogs were classified according to respiratory disease (obstructive airway/lung disease [OALD] or restrictive lung disease [RLD]) and PH‐relevant signs. The association between echocardiographic variables and PH (classified by respiratory disease and PH‐relevant signs) was investigated. Results: Twenty‐one dogs were diagnosed with PH; of these, 11 showed PH‐related signs (OALD, n = 2; RLD, n = 9), 14 had right ventricular hypertrophy, and 19 had pulmonary arterial enlargement. Right ventricular dysfunction and dilatation were observed only in dogs with PH‐related signs (n = 10). Left and right ventricular stroke volumes were significantly lower in dogs with PH (median [interquartile range]: 17.2 [12.4‐20.8] and 16.8 [15.3‐29.5] mL/m2, respectively). Dogs with RLD had higher echocardiography‐estimated pulmonary vascular resistance than those with OALD (median [interquartile range]: 3.1 [1.9‐3.3] and 1.6 [1.3‐2.2], respectively). Conclusions and Clinical Importance: Pulmonary arterial enlargement was the most common echocardiographic finding in dogs with PH secondary to respiratory diseases. Right ventricular dysfunction, dilatation, and decreased left and right ventricular stroke volume were significantly associated with the PH‐related signs, indicating that comprehensive echocardiography is recommended in dogs with respiratory disease. Termites have an elaborate social system that involves cooperation and division of labour among colony members. Although this social system is regulated by chemical signals produced in the colony, it remains unclear how these signals are perceived by other members. Signal transduction is well known to be triggered by the reception of odorant molecules by some binding proteins in the antennae, after which, a signal is transmitted to chemosensory receptors. However, there is insufficient information on the role of chemosensory genes involved in signal transduction in termites. Here, we identified the genes involved in chemosensory reception in the termite Reticulitermes speratus and performed a genome‐wide comparative transcriptome analysis of worker and soldier antennae. First, we identified 31 odorant‐binding proteins (OBPs), and three chemosensory protein A (CheA) from the genome data. Thereafter, we performed RNA sequencing to compare the expression levels of OBPs, CheAs, and previously identified chemosensory receptor genes between worker and soldier antennae. There were no receptor genes with significant differences in expression between castes. However, the expression levels of three non‐receptor odorant‐detection/binding proteins (OBP, CheA, and Sensory neuron membrane protein) were significantly different between castes. Real‐time qPCR (RT‐qPCR) analysis using antennae and other head parts confirmed that these genes were highly expressed in soldier antennae. Finally, independent RT‐qPCR analysis showed that the expression patterns of these genes were altered in soldiers from different social contexts. Background: Progression to combined post‐ and pre‐capillary pulmonary hypertension (PH) provides prognostic information in human patients with post‐capillary PH. Pulmonary vascular resistance estimated by echocardiography (PVRecho) is useful for the stratification of dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) and detectable tricuspid regurgitation. Objectives: To evaluate the prognostic value of PVRecho in dogs with MMVD. Animals: Fifty‐four dogs with MMVD and detectable tricuspid regurgitation. Methods: Prospective cohort study. All dogs underwent echocardiography. The PVRecho was calculated based on tricuspid regurgitation and the velocity‐time integral of the pulmonary artery flow. To evaluate the influence of echocardiographic variables on cardiac‐related deaths, Cox proportional hazard analysis was performed. Additionally, Kaplan‐Meier curves classified by PVRecho tertiles were made and compared using log‐rank tests to evaluate the influence of PVRecho on all‐cause mortality and cardiac‐related death. Results: The median follow‐up time was 579 days. Forty‐one dogs with MMVD (PH severity [number]: no or mild, 21/33; moderate, 11/11; severe, 9/10) died during the study. In the multivariable Cox proportional hazard analysis adjusted for age, sildenafil administration, and American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine stage of MMVD, left atrial to aortic diameter ratio and PVRecho remained significant (adjusted hazard ratio [95% confidence interval]: 1.2 [1.1‐1.3] and 2.1 [1.6‐3.0], respectively). Higher PVRecho showed a significant association with lower survival rates. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common heart disease in cats with a suspected genetic origin. Previous studies have identified five HCM-associated variants in three genes (Myosin binding protein C3: MYBPC3 p.A31P, p.A74T, p.R820W; Myosin heavy chain 7: MYH7 p.E1883K; Alstrom syndrome protein 1: ALMS1 p.G3376R). These variants are considered breed-specific, with the exception of MYBPC3 p.A74T, and have rarely been found in other breeds. However, genetic studies on HCM-associated variants across breeds are still insufficient because of population and breed bias caused by differences in genetic background. This study investigates the ubiquitous occurrence of HCM-associated genetic variants among cat breeds, using 57 HCM-affected, 19 HCM-unaffected, and 227 non-examined cats from the Japanese population. Genotyping of the five variants revealed the presence of MYBPC3 p.A31P and ALMS1 p.G3376R in two (Munchkin and Scottish Fold) and five non-specific breeds (American Shorthair, Exotic Shorthair, Minuet, Munchkin and Scottish Fold), respectively, in which the variants had not been identified previously. In addition, our results indicate that the ALMS1 variants identified in the Sphynx breed might not be Sphynx-specific. Overall, our results suggest that these two specific variants may still be found in other cat breeds and should be examined in detail in a population-driven manner. Furthermore, applying genetic testing to Munchkin and Scottish Fold, the breeds with both MYBPC3 and ALMS1 variants, will help prevent the development of new HCM-affected cat colonies. Simple Summary: Pulmonary hypertension is a life-threatening complication in dogs with cardiopulmonary disease. Epoprostenol, a prostacyclin analog, is an intravenous pulmonary vasodilator used for treating pulmonary hypertension in humans; however, it has not been used in veterinary medicine. This study aimed to investigate the effects of epoprostenol on cardiac function and hemodynamics in canine models of chronic pulmonary hypertension. Six laboratory-owned dogs with chronic embolic pulmonary hypertension were anesthetized and underwent right heart catheterization and echocardiography before and after administering epoprostenol, dobutamine, dopamine, and pimobendan. In this study, high doses of epoprostenol significantly decreased pulmonary and systemic vascular resistance and increased left and right ventricular function. In contrast, dobutamine and dopamine significantly increased pulmonary arterial pressure and left and right ventricular function. Pimobendan significantly increased left and right ventricular function without increasing pulmonary arterial pressure. Our results indicate that high doses of epoprostenol might help effectively treat canine pulmonary hypertension through pulmonic and systemic vasodilating effects. Catecholamines improve left and right ventricular function; however, they might worsen the pathophysiology of pulmonary hypertension. Pimobendan also improved left and right ventricular function without worsening pulmonary hypertension pathophysiology; however, a stronger vasodilating effect was observed with epoprostenol. Pimobendan significantly increased LV and RV functions without increasing PAP. Conversely, dobutamine and dopamine significantly increased LV and RV function as well as PAP. This study revealed the efficacy of epoprostenol in treating canine PH through its pulmonary and systemic vasodilating effects. Although catecholamines improve LV and RV function, they might worsen PH pathophysiology, and careful monitoring may be necessary when using these drugs. Simple Summary: Cardiogenic pulmonary edema (CPE) is the leading cause of cats visiting emergency hospitals with respiratory distress. The association of physical examination and venous blood gas parameters with the survival of cats with CPE was retrospectively investigated. Thirty-six cats were ultimately included, and eight of them died within 12 h after their presentation to our hospital. The Mann–Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction was used to compare the parameters. Cats that died within 12 h had significantly lower rectal temperatures and higher PvCO2 than those that did not die within 12 h. Moreover, vasoconstrictor use was related to death within 12 h of presentation and higher PvCO2. A large number of prospective studies should be performed to validate these results. The objective of this retrospective study was to investigate the association of physical examination and venous blood gas parameters with the survival of cats with CPE in an emergency hospital. Thirty-six cats with CPE were ultimately included in the present study, and eight of them died within 12 h after their presentation to our hospital. Statistical analyses of clinical parameters between cats that died within 12 h and those that survived for 12 h were conducted using Mann–Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction. Cats that died within 12 h had significantly lower rectal temperatures and higher PvCO2 than those that did not die within 12 h. Moreover, hypotension and vasoconstrictor use were related to death within 12 h of presentation and higher PvCO2. These findings indicated the prognostic utility of body temperature and PvCO2, and the association between hypercapnia and the severity of CPE or hypotension. Mesenchymal stem cells are expected to be a cell source for stem cell therapy of various diseases in veterinary medicine. However, donor-dependent cell heterogenicity has been a cause of inconsistent therapeutic efficiency. Therefore, we established immortalized cells from canine adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) to minimize cellular heterogeneity by reducing the number of donors, evaluated their properties, and compared them to the primary cells with RNA-sequencing. Immortalized canine ADSCs were established by transduction with combinations of the R24C mutation of human cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDKR24C), canine cyclin D1, and canine TERT. The ADSCs transduced with CDK4R24C, cyclin D1, and TERT (ADSC-K4DT) or with CDK4R24C and cyclin D1 (ADSC-K4D) showed a dramatic increase in proliferation (population doubling level > 100) without cellular senescence compared to the primary ADSCs. The cell surface markers, except for CD90 of the ADSC-K4DT and ADSC-K4D cells, were similar to those of the primary ADSCs. The ADSC-K4DT and ADSC-K4D cells maintained their trilineage differentiation capacity and chromosome condition, and did not have a tumorigenic development. The ability to inhibit lymphocyte proliferation by the ADSC-K4D cells was enhanced compared with the primary ADSCs and ADSC-K4DT cells. The pathway analysis based on RNA-sequencing revealed changes in the pathways mainly related to the cell cycle and telomerase. The ADSC-K4DT and ADSC-K4D cells had decreased CD90 expression, but there were no obvious defects associated with the decreased CD90 expression in this study. Important roles of humoral tumor immunity are often pointed out; however, precise profiles of dominant antigens and developmental mechanisms remain elusive. We systematically investigated the humoral antigens of dominant intratumor immunoglobulin clones found in human cancers. We found that approximately half of the corresponding antigens were restricted to strongly and densely negatively charged polymers, resulting in simultaneous reactivities of the antibodies to both densely sulfated glycosaminoglycans (dsGAGs) and nucleic acids (NAs). These anti‐dsGAG/NA antibodies matured and expanded via intratumoral immunological driving force of innate immunity via NAs. These human cancer–derived antibodies exhibited acidic pH–selective affinity across both antigens and showed specific reactivity to diverse spectrums of human tumor cells. The antibody‐drug conjugate exerted therapeutic effects against multiple cancers in vivo by targeting cell surface dsGAG antigens. This study reveals that intratumoral immunological reactions propagate tumor‐oriented immunoglobulin clones and demonstrates a new therapeutic modality for the universal treatment of human malignancies. Background: The number of medications, number of administrations per day, dosing frequency on indicated day, and medication from multiple prescriptions are the medication factors prone to medication errors in self-management that have been previously reported. However, whether pharmacists actually intervene in medication factors that affect medication error occurrences in self-management is unclear. Therefore, we conducted this study to clarify these issues. Method: This study included patients who underwent self-management in the rehabilitation ward of Higashinagoya National Hospital. From April 2019 to March 2020, a one-pharmacist period existed, and from April 2020 to March 2021, a two-pharmacist period existed. The number of patient instructions and interventions were expected to increase with an increase in the number of pharmacists. Considering this to be an environment of differential interventions by pharmacists, a pre-post-test design was conducted with all self-managed patients in both the time periods. The primary and secondary endpoints were the proportion of medication error occurrences and proportion of pharmacist’s interventions in medication factors, respectively. Result: The proportions of medication error occurrences during the one-pharmacist and two-pharmacist periods were 41% (71/173) and 28% (51/180) (relative risk 0.690, 95% confidential interval 0.515–0.925), respectively. The proportion of pharmacist’s interventions in medication factors in the one-pharmacist period was 13% (22/173) and 22% (40/180) in the two-pharmacist period; there was an increase in the proportion of pharmacist’s interventions in medication factors in the two-pharmacist period. Conclusion: The proportion of medication error occurrences was significantly lower in the two-pharmacist period than that in the one-pharmacist period. This can be attributed to the increase in the proportion of pharmacist’s interventions in medication factors. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are currently being investigated for their therapeutic applications in a wide range of diseases. Although many studies examined peripheral venous administration of MSC, few have investigated the detailed intravenous administration procedures of MSC from their preparation until they enter the body. The current study therefore aimed to explore the most efficient infusion procedure for MSC delivery by preparing and infusing them under various conditions. Canine adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (cADSC) were infused using different infusion apparatuses, suspension solutions, allogenic serum supplementation, infusion time and rates, and cell densities, respectively. Live and dead cell counts were then assessed by manual measurements and flow cytometry. Efficiency of live- and dead-cell infusion and cell viability were calculated from the measured cell counts and compared under each condition. Efficiency of live-cell infusion differed significantly according to the infusion apparatus, infusion rate, and combination of cell density and serum supplementation. Cell viability after infusion differed significantly between the infusion apparatuses. The optimal infusion procedure resulting in the highest cell delivery and viability involved suspending cADSC in normal saline supplemented with 5% allogenic serum at a density of 5 × 105 cells/mL, and infusing them using an automatic infusion device for 15 min. Simple Summary: Dilated cardiomyopathy is a cardiac disorder most commonly observed in specific dog breeds and is characterized by diffuse left ventricular systolic dysfunction and left ventricular enlargement. Recent studies have reported a potential connection between diet and dilated cardiomyopathy, and some studies have shown a positive effect of diet change on cardiac function and prognosis in dogs with diet-related dilated cardiomyopathy. However, these reports were from large-breed dogs and did not include detailed assessments of myocardial function, such as two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography. We report an overview of our experience in a small-breed dog with a clinical diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy, in which dietary modification resulted in improved cardiac enlargement and myocardial dysfunction evaluated by two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography. We suggest that it is necessary to suspect a dietary association with dilated cardiomyopathy, even in small-breed dogs. Furthermore, the prognosis for diet-related dilated cardiomyopathy in small-breed dogs may also be as good as in previous reports of large-breed dogs when changing to appropriate diets. An 11-year-old intact female Papillion weighing 2.1 kg was referred to our institution with the main complaint of shallow, rapid breathing. At the first visit (day 0), although clinical signs improved due to the use of medication from the primary hospital, transthoracic radiography and echocardiography revealed left heart enlargement and left ventricular dysfunction. A clinical diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) was made and oral administration of pimobendan, temocapril, and taurine was initiated. However, on day 10, the respiratory status worsened and furosemide was prescribed. On day 54, no significant improvement in heart size was observed. Additionally, the diet that this patient received met the recommendation for diet-related DCM by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the patient's diet was changed from a grain-free diet to a grain-containing diet. On day 1191, the patient's respiratory status was stable and no clinical signs were observed. Transthoracic radiography and echocardiography revealed an improvement in left heart size. Additionally, improvements in the left and right ventricular myocardial strains were observed after changing the diet. We suggest that it may be necessary to suspect a dietary association with dilated cardiomyopathy, and a good prognosis might be expected by dietary modification, even in small-breed dogs. This paper presents a formulation of an optimization of uncertain systems and the solution technique. The optimization under uncertainties is formulated as an optimization problem which includes unknown variables in equality constraints called system equations as well as in an objective function and inequality constraints. As countermeasures against the uncertainties, a min‐max criterion is applied to the objective function and robustness criteria are introduced to the inequality constraints. By differentiating state variables satisfying the equality constraints from the decision variables, we reformulate the optimization problem based on the worst‐case scenario of the state variables corresponding to the uncertain variables and we propose a "constraints‐relaxation procedure" based method considering the equality constraints to solve the reformulated problem. In this method, a constraints‐relaxed problem is solved corresponding to a finite number of samples of uncertain variables. Furthermore, a new sample of uncertain variables is sequentially generated corresponding to the inequality constraint which the solution violates most, together with state variables satisfying the system equations at the new worst‐case scenario. Simple Summary: Pulmonary hypertension is a potentially life-threatening disease among dogs that is characterized by increased pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance. In veterinary medicine, a phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor such as sildenafil is the most common drug used to treat pulmonary hypertension. However, the availability of sildenafil is limited because of its high cost, difficulty in obtaining the drug in some areas, and potential inter-individual variability in the response to sildenafil therapy. Beraprost sodium is one of the most common drugs used to treat pulmonary hypertension in humans. However, little is known about its efficacy in dogs with pulmonary hypertension. In this study, beraprost sodium showed significant pulmonary and systemic vasodilation without any adverse effects in sixteen dogs with pulmonary hypertension. Additionally, echocardiographic improvements in cardiac function and pulmonary and systemic circulation were observed. These results emphasize the potential efficacy of beraprost sodium in treating canine pulmonary hypertension. Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a fatal condition that affects many dogs. In humans, PH is often treated with beraprost sodium (BPS). However, the effectiveness of BPS for canine PH has not been established. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and cardiovascular response of BPS in canine patients with PH of various causes. Sixteen dogs with PH (post-capillary PH, n = 8; pre-capillary PH, n = 8) were included. BPS was continuously administered twice daily at 15 µg/kg. All dogs underwent echocardiography, including speckle-tracking analysis and blood pressure measurement, before and after BPS administration. Continuous BPS administration (range: 13.2–22.0 µg/kg) significantly decreased the pulmonary and systemic vascular impedance and increased left and right ventricular myocardial strain. In dogs with post-capillary PH, BPS administration caused no significant worsening of the left atrial pressure indicators. No side effects of BPS were observed in any dog. BPS also improved cardiac function and pulmonary circulation through pulmonary vasodilation, suggesting that BPS may be an additional treatment option for canine PH of various causes. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have excellent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory capabilities and therapeutic effects in some viral diseases. The therapeutic impact of MSCs mainly relies on the paracrine effects of various secreted substances. Feline calicivirus (FCV) and feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV1) are common and highly prevalent pathogens causing upper respiratory diseases, and FCV is associated with gingivostomatitis in cats. Recently, feline MSC treatment has been reported to improve the clinical symptoms of feline chronic gingivostomatitis, but the antiviral effects of feline MSCs on FCV and FHV1 are not known. In this study, we evaluated the antiviral efficacy of using feline MSC secretome as a conditioned medium on FCV and FHV1 viral replication in Crandell–Reese feline kidney (CRFK) cells, and RNA sequencing was used to analyze how the CRFK cells were altered by the MSC secretomes. The feline MSC secretome did not inhibit FCV or FHV1 viral entry into the CRFK cells but had antiviral effects on the replication of both FCV and FHV1 in a dose-dependent manner. Background: Right ventricular (RV) functional assessment has received considerable attention in veterinary medicine since various diseases, such as cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, and neoplastic disease, may affect RV function. Heart rate (HR) is an important factor that can influence RV function through changes in loading condition and contractility. However, no study has yet evaluated the association between HR and RV function in the same individuals. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of elevated HR on RV function using right heart catheterization and echocardiography, and investigate the association between right heart catheterization and echocardiographic indices. Results: Right atrial pacing was performed in eight dogs at 120, 140, 160, and 180 bpm. With an increase in HR, the RV systolic volume, RV diastolic volume, and stroke volume significantly decreased; however, the cardiac output, end-systolic elastance (Ees), and effective arterial elastance (Ea) significantly increased. Significant changes were not observed in RV pressure and Ees/Ea. The RV area normalized by body weight, RV fractional area change normalized by body weight (RV FACn), and tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion normalized by body weight (TAPSEn) significantly decreased with increased HR. Peak systolic myocardial velocity of the lateral tricuspid annulus (RV s'), RV strain, and RV strain rate of only the RV free wall analysis (RV-SrL3seg) showed no significant changes with the increase in HR; however, there was an increase in the RV strain rate of the RV global analysis (RV-SrL6seg). Multiple regression analysis revealed that HR, RV FACn, and RV- SrL6seg had significant associations with the Ees, and the TAPSEn and RV-SrL3seg with Ees/Ea. Conclusions: Decreased venous return and shortened relaxation time decreased the RV FAC, TAPSE, RV s', and RV strain, and might underestimate the RV function. Ees increased with the increase in HR, reflecting the myocardial force-frequency relation; as a result, RV-SrL6seg could be a useful tool for Ees estimation. Real-time three-dimensional echocardiography (RT3DE) enables a noninvasive assessment of right ventricular (RV) morphology. However, no study has evaluated the relationship between RV function obtained by RT3DE and RV pressure-volume loops. This hypothesis-driven, experimental study aimed to assess the utility of RT3DE in the evaluation of RV morphology and function. Ten anesthetized beagle dogs sequentially underwent dobutamine infusion, acute infusion of lactated Ringer's solution, and furosemide administration to alter RV contractility and loading conditions. RV pressure-volume loop-derived hemodynamic measurements and echocardiography, including two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography and RT3DE, were performed in each study protocol. Bland–Altman analysis showed strong agreement in RV volume, ejection fraction, and stroke volume obtained by right heart catheterization and RT3DE. Multiple regression analyses revealed that the peak myocardial velocity of the lateral tricuspid annulus (RV s') and global RV longitudinal strain rate were significantly associated with end-systolic elastance (adjusted r2 = 0.66, p < 0.001). RV s', RV free wall longitudinal strain, and RT3DE-derived stroke volume/end-systolic RV volume ratio were associated with RV pressure-volume loops-derived end-systolic/arterial elastance ratio (adjusted r2 = 0.34, p < 0.001). An 8‐month‐old domestic short‐haired female cat presented with acute tachypnea, poor growth, hypothermia, and lethargy. Thoracic radiography showed cardiomegaly with mild pleural effusion, and transthoracic echocardiography identified dilatation of both atria and left ventricular systolic dysfunction. Although clinical signs improved temporarily with treatment, the cat died of pulmonary edema 135 days after the first visit. At necropsy, the heart was grossly enlarged. Microscopic examination of the heart identified severe vacuolization of cardiac muscle cells in histologic sections stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Examination of periodic acid‐Schiff stained preparations of formalin‐fixed heart tissue disclosed coarse granules within vacuoles that disappeared on predigestion with diastase, indicating that they were glycogen. On the basis of these findings, a necropsy diagnosis of glycogen storage disease type II (Pompe disease) was made. Adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) have anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory characteristics. Many studies have suggested that the immunomodulation of ADSCs is largely mediated by secreted paracrine factors. Various factors are secreted from ADSCs, among which extracellular vesicles are considered to play a major role in the communication between ADSCs and target cells. Several studies have reported the function of canine ADSC-derived extracellular vesicles (cADSC-EVs), but few studies have reported the immunomodulatory effects of cADSC-EVs on immune cells. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of cADSC-EVs on in vitro-stimulated CD4+ T cells isolated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). cADSC-EVs were isolated from cADSCs under naive conditions or primed conditions by tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα) and interferon-γ (IFNγ). The expression levels of several microRNAs in cADSC-EVs were altered by priming with TNFα and IFNγ. Culturing PBMCs stimulated with concanavalin A in the presence of naive or primed cADSC-EVs inhibited the differentiation of PBMCs and CD4+ T cells and promoted apoptosis of PBMCs. CD4+, CD8+, and CD4+CD8+ T cells were decreased, while CD3+CD4-CD8- T cells were increased. T helper (Th) 1, Th2, Th17, and regulatory T (Treg) cells were analyzed by flow cytometry. cADSC-EVs inhibited the proliferation of Th1 and Th17 cells and enhanced Th2 and Treg cell proliferation. However, CD4+ T cells that had incorporated labeled cADSC-EVs comprised only a few percent of all cells. Therefore, these responses of stimulated CD4+ T cells may be due to not only direct effects of cADSC-EVs but also to indirect effects through interactions between cADSC-EVs and other immune cells. Background: Restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM) is a common myocardial disease in cats, characterized by diastolic dysfunction and atrial enlargement without myocardial hypertrophy. Especially, endomyocardial form of RCM, one of the subtypes in RCM, is characterized by endocardial fibrosis, endocardial scar bridging the interventricular septum and left ventricular (LV) free wall, and deformation and distortion of the LV. However, it is unclear how the myocardial dysfunction and the endocardial scar contribute to the pathophysiology of RCM disease progression. Case presentation: A 3 years and 2 months old, intact male, Domestic shorthaired cat was presented for consultation of cardiac murmur. At the first visit (day 0), the notable abnormal finding was echocardiography-derived chordae tendineae-like structure bridging the interventricular septum and the LV free wall, resulting high-speed blood flow in the left ventricle. Electrocardiography, thoracic radiography and noninvasive blood pressure measurements were normal. No left atrial enlargement was observed, and LV inflow velocity showed an abnormal relaxation pattern. Although there was no abnormality in tissue Doppler imaging-derived myocardial velocity, two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) revealed a decrease in the LV longitudinal strain and an increase in endocardial to epicardial ratio of the LV circumferential strain on day 0. On day 468, obvious left atrium enlargement and smoke like echo in the left atrium were observed. The LV inflow velocity was fused, and the tissue Doppler imaging-derived early-diastolic myocardial velocity of the septal mitral annulus decreased. Regarding 2D-STE, LV circumferential strain was further decreased, and right ventricular strain was additionally decreased. Although the general condition was good, we made a clinical diagnosis of endomyocardial RCM based on the above findings. On day 503, the cat showed the radiographic evidence of pulmonary edema and congestive heart failure signs. Conclusions: Cats with abnormal LV structure and associated myocardial dysfunction like this case needs careful observation. Background: Egg allergy is one of the most common food allergies in children. To date, oral immunotherapy (OIT) has been considered as a promising treatment option for egg allergy. However, safety issues remain concerning severe adverse events requiring epinephrine injection. Hence, establishing a safer method to treat egg allergy would be beneficial. We report here two children with egg allergy who were safely treated with sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) before transitioning to OIT. Case presentation: Patient 1 was a 7-year-old girl and Patient 2 was a 5-year-old girl. Although OIT for egg had been attempted in both patients, severe anaphylactic symptoms were induced by ingesting only 0.1 g of heated whole egg. Therefore, SLIT was conducted with aqueous suspensions consisting of water and heated whole egg powder. Suspensions were administered sublingually, kept in the mouth for 2 min, and spat out immediately thereafter. SLIT was continued for 7 months for Patient 1 and 8 months for Patient 2 due to the exploratory character of the study. Afterwards, the patients successfully transferred to low-dose OIT with 1 g of heated whole egg (≒170 mg of egg protein) daily, and are continuing the therapy as of June 2020. As for adverse reactions, Patient 1 expressed oral cavity itchiness once at the beginning of SLIT. Patient 2 had no adverse reaction. The levels of antigen-specific IgE decreased in both patients after SLIT, and further decreased after switching to OIT. Conclusions: Few clinical studies have evaluated the efficacy and safety of SLIT for egg allergy. Although the treatment was conducted in only two patients, our results have shown that SLIT is a promising treatment procedure for egg allergy. Background: Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) is a common right ventricular (RV) function indicator. However, TAPSE was not decreased in dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) and postcapillary pulmonary hypertension (PH) because of its load, angle, and body weight dependency, and TAPSE was considered a preload‐dependent index. Objectives: To evaluate the utility of TAPSE normalized by RV size in dogs with postcapillary PH. Animals Twenty healthy dogs and 71 MMVD dogs with or without PH. Methods: In this prospective observational study, end‐diastolic RV internal dimension (RVIDd), end‐diastolic and end‐systolic RV area, and end‐diastolic RV wall thickness were measured as RV size indices. The TAPSE was measured using B‐mode and M‐mode methods. Normalized TAPSE was calculated by dividing TAPSE by each RV size index. The RV strain was obtained as the detailed RV function using 2‐dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography. All indices were compared among the PH severity groups and in the presence of right‐sided congestive heart failure (R‐CHF). Results: Although nonnormalized TAPSE was higher with PH severity progression, each normalized TAPSE showed a significant decrease in the severe PH group (P <.05). The TAPSEB‐mode/RVIDd ratio had high area under the curve to predict R‐CHF and had moderate correlation with RV strain (P <.05). The TAPSEB‐mode/RVIDd and left atrial‐to‐aortic diameter ratios were independent predictors for R‐CHF. Conclusions and Clinical Importance: Normalized TAPSE could reflect RV systolic dysfunction in dogs with severe PH, which could not be detected by nonnormalized TAPSE. The potential of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to differentiate into nonmesodermal cells such as pancreatic beta cells has been reported. New cell-based therapy using MSCs for diabetes mellitus is anticipated as an alternative treatment option to insulin injection or islet transplantation in both human and veterinary medicine. Several protocols were reported for differentiation of MSCs into insulin-producing cells (IPCs), but no studies have reported IPCs generated from canine MSCs. The purpose of this study was to generate IPCs from canine adipose tissue-derived MSCs (AT-MSCs) in vitro and to investigate the effects of IPC transplantation on diabetic mice in vivo. Culturing AT-MSCs with the differentiation protocol under a two-dimensional culture system did not produce IPCs. However, spheroid-like small clusters consisting of canine AT-MSCs and human recombinant peptide μ-pieces developed under a three-dimensional (3D) culture system were successfully differentiated into IPCs. The generated IPCs under 3D culture condition were stained with dithizone and anti-insulin antibody. Canine IPCs also showed gene expression typical for pancreatic beta cells and increased insulin secretion in response to glucose stimulation. The blood glucose levels in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice were decreased after injection with the supernatant of canine IPCs, but the hyperglycemic states of diabetic mice were not improved after transplanting IPCs subcutaneously or intramesenterically. The histological examination showed that the transplanted small clusters of IPCs were successfully engrafted to the mice and included cells positive for insulin by immunofluorescence. Several factors, such as the transplanted cell number, the origin of AT-MSCs, and the differentiation protocol, were considered potential reasons for the inability to improve the hyperglycemic state after IPC transplantation. These findings suggest that canine AT-MSCs can be differentiated into IPCs under a 3D culture system and IPC transplantation may be a new treatment option for dogs with diabetes mellitus. Obinutuzumab is a novel glycoengineered, type-II anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody that was recently developed to treat follicular lymphoma (FL), the most prevalent subtype of indolent B-cell lymphoma. Several intensely hypermetabolic lesions (SUVmax: 40) were identified in the post-mediastinal and paraaortic lymph nodes by 18F-FDG-PET maximum-intensity projection images of a 58-year-old man who presented with systemic lymphadenopathy. A biopsy at the time of laparotomy definitively diagnosed grade 1 FL. The patient was given the recommended standard premedication, comprising acetaminophen (1000 mg), diphenhydramine (50 mg), and dexamethasone (20 mg), and then started on six cycles of obinutuzumab plus cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone (CHOP). However, the patient developed severe hypotension and dyspnea about 15 min after starting obinutuzumab. It was difficult to differentiate between a possible allergic reaction and infusion-related reaction. A pleural effusion was drained to reduce the tumor burden, after which a single course of CHOP was started. Rituximab (R) was added 10 days later without incident, and the patient completed six cycles of the R-CHOP therapy without adverse events. We conclude that R-CHOP was safe for administration to patients who react to infused obinutuzumab. Such patients should be carefully monitored during R infusion, given the risk of cross-reactivity. Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) have been suggested their benefits in regenerative medicine for various diseases. Lipomas, benign neoplasms in adipose tissue, have been reported as a potential source of stem cells. These lipoma-derived mesenchymal stem cells (LDSCs) may be useful for regenerative medicine. However, the detailed characteristics of LDSCs have not been fully elucidated. This study investigated the cellular proteomics and secretomes of canine LDSCs in addition to morphology and proliferation and differentiation capacities. Some LDSCs isolated from canine subcutaneous lipomas were morphologically different from ADSCs and showed a rounded shape instead of fibroblast-like morphology. The phenotype of cell surface markers in LDSCs was similar to those in ADSCs, but CD29 and CD90 stem cell markers were more highly expressed compared with those of ADSCs. LDSCs had noticeably high proliferation ability, but no significant differences were observed compared with ADSCs. In regard to differentiation capacity compared to ADSCs, LDSCs showed higher adipogenesis, but no differences were observed with osteogenesis. Cellular proteomic analysis using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis revealed that over 95% of protein spots showed similar expression levels between LDSCs and ADSCs. Secretome analysis was performed using iTRAQ and quantitative cytokine arrays. Over 1900 proteins were detected in conditioned medium (CM) of LDSCs and ADSCs, and 94.0% of detected proteins showed similar expression levels between CM of both cell types. Results from cytokine arrays including 20 cytokines showed no significant differences between CM of LDSCs and that of ADSCs. Our results indicate that canine LDSCs had variability in characteristics among individuals in contrast with those of ADSCs. Cellular proteomics and secretomes were similar in both LDSCs and ADSCs. Background: Inconsistency of treatment response in cats with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is well recognized. We hypothesized that the difference in response to beta-blockers may be caused by myocardial functional abnormalities. This study was designed to compare myocardial function in cats with obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with and without response to beta-blockers. Twenty-one, client-owned, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy cats treated with carvedilol were analyzed. After carvedilol treatment, cats with decreased left ventricular outflow tract velocity were categorized as responders (n = 10); those exhibiting no response (no decrease in the left ventricular outflow tract velocity) were categorized as non-responders (n = 11). The cats were examined using layer-specific assessment of the myocardial function (whole, endocardial, and epicardial layers) longitudinally and circumferentially by two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography, before and after carvedilol treatment. Results: The non-responder cats had a significantly higher age, end-diastolic left ventricular posterior-wall thickness, peak velocity of left ventricular outflow tract, and dose of carvedilol than the responders (p = 0.04, p < 0.01, p < 0.01, and p < 0.01, respectively). The circumferential strain in the epicardial layer was lower and circumferential endocardial to epicardial strain ratio was higher in non-responders than responders (p < 0.001 and p = 0.006). According to the multivariate analysis, circumferential strain in the epicardial layer was the only independent correlate of treatment response with carvedilol. Conclusions: Myocardial function, assessed by two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography, differed in cats with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with and without response to beta-blockers. Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a primary disorder of the myocardium, is the most common cardiac disease in cats. However, determination of layer‐specific myocardial function with 2D speckle‐tracking echocardiography in cats with asymptomatic HCM has not yet been reported. Objectives: To quantitatively measure layer‐specific myocardial function of asymptomatic cats with HCM. Animals Ten client‐owned, asymptomatic cats with obstructive HCM and 13 healthy cats. Methods: A retrospective, case‐control study. Cats underwent assessment of layer‐specific myocardial function (whole, endocardial, and epicardial) in the longitudinal and circumferential directions by using 2D speckle‐tracking echocardiography. Results: Longitudinal strains were significantly lower in cats with HCM than controls in the whole (−15.5% vs −19.1%), endocardial (−18.3% vs −21.8%), and epicardial (−13.1% vs −16.8%) layers. Circumferential strains in whole and epicardial layers also were significantly lower in cats with HCM as compared with controls (−15.0% vs −20.2% and − 4.4% vs −9.4%, respectively). However, no significant difference was found between cats with HCM and controls in the global circumferential strain in the endocardial layer (−31.2% vs −34.2%). The circumferential endocardial‐to‐epicardial strain ratio was significantly higher in cats with HCM than in controls (6.1 vs 3.5). Conclusions and Clinical Importance: Layer‐specific myocardial function assessed by 2D speckle‐tracking echocardiography differed in asymptomatic cats with obstructive HCM compared to controls despite their apparently normal systolic function, as determined by conventional echocardiography. The maintained endocardial circumferential strain and higher circumferential endocardial‐to‐epicardial strain ratio may reflect compensation for occult systolic dysfunction in cats with obstructive HCM. Motivation: The aim of precision medicine is to harness new knowledge and technology to optimize the timing and targeting of interventions for maximal therapeutic benefit. This study explores the possibility of building AI models without precise pixel-level annotation in prediction of the tumor size, extrathyroidal extension, lymph node metastasis, cancer stage and BRAF mutation in thyroid cancer diagnosis, providing the patients' background information, histopathological and immunohistochemical tissue images. Results: A novel framework for objective evaluation of automatic patient diagnosis algorithms has been established under the auspices of the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging 2017-- A Grand Challenge for Tissue Microarray Analysis in Thyroid Cancer Diagnosis. Here, we present the datasets, methods and results of the challenge and lay down the principles for future uses of this benchmark. The main contributions of the challenge include the creation of the data repository of tissue microarrays; the creation of the clinical diagnosis classification data repository of thyroid cancer; and the definition of objective quantitative evaluation for comparison and ranking of the algorithms. With this benchmark, three automatic methods for predictions of the five clinical outcomes have been compared, and detailed quantitative evaluation results are presented in this paper. Based on the quantitative evaluation results, we believe automatic patient diagnosis is still a challenging and unsolved problem. Background: Pain is a widely neglected symptom in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), even though it may be common and have a significant impact on the quality of life. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and characteristics of pain and its treatment in ALS patients. Design: A multicenter cross-sectional study. Setting/Subjects: Eighty patients with ALS from eight hospitals. Measurements: Data on demographics, functional status, and pharmacological treatment were collected. The Barthel Index (BI) was used to assess functional status. Pain was measured using the 0–5-point Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale. Results: Pain was reported by 53.8% of ALS patients, and 36.3% reported receiving pain medication. Opioids were the drugs most commonly used to treat pain. The differences in pain frequency according to functional status were not statistically significant (p = 0.38). The pain intensity in patients whose functional status was total dependence (BI 0–20, 2.5 ± 1.2) was significantly worse than that in those with better functional status (BI 21–60, 1.4 ± 0.7; BI 61–99, 1.4 ± 0.5; p < 0.01). Summary Recent successes in tumor immunotherapies have highlighted the importance of tumor immunity. However, most of the work conducted to date has been on T cell immunity, while the role of B cell immunity in cancer remains more elusive. In this study, immunogenetic repertoire profiling for tumor-infiltrating B and T cells in gastric cancers was carried out to help reveal the architecture of B cell immunity in cancer. Humoral immunity in cancer was shown to involve oligoclonal expansions of tumor-specific and private B cell repertoires. We find that B cell repertoires in cancer are shaped by somatic hypermutation (SHM) either with or without positive selection biases, the latter of which tended to be auto-reactive. Importantly, we identified sulfated glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) as major functional B cell antigens among gastric tumors. Furthermore, natural anti-sulfated GAG antibodies discovered in gastric cancer tissues showed robust growth-suppressive functions against a wide variety of human malignancies of various organs. Background There are some biomarkers for asthma diagnosis but they are often difficult in clinical use, particularly in pediatric cases. Periostin is an extracellular matrix protein, upregulated in response to IL-4 or IL-13. Serum periostin is expected to be used as a non-invasive biomarker for asthma diagnosis and management. Methods Twenty-eight children with asthma ( BA) and 27 children without asthma (patients with pectus excavatum, etc. as control group) aged 6-16 years were included. Bronchial asthma was diagnosed according to International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood ( ISAAC) questionnaire. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (Fe NO), lung function, blood eosinophil counts, total immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, and serum periostin levels were assessed. Results were compared between BA and controls. Asthma diagnostic accuracies were calculated using receiver operating characteristics ( ROC) curve analyses. Results Serum periostin levels in the BA group were significantly higher than those in the control group [medians (with interquartile ranges), 134.0 (116.3-166.3) vs. 112.0 (97.0-132.0) ng/ml; p = 0.012]. The area under the ROC curve ( AUC) for periostin, Fe NO, and eosinophil counts were 0.70, 0.72, and 0.84, respectively. After the exclusion of controls with pectus excavatum, AUC for periostin, forced expiratory volume in 1 s ( FEV1), and maximum mid-expiratory flow rate ( MMF) were 0.75, 0.74, and 0.80, respectively. Conclusion Serum periostin levels were significantly higher in children with asthma. ROC AUC values for periostin were equivalent to conventional biomarkers, including Fe NO levels and lung function testing, indicating the utility of serum periostin levels in diagnosing asthma in children. Cancer histological images contain rich biological and clinical information, but quantitative representation can be problematic and has prevented the direct comparison and accumulation of large-scale datasets. Here, we show successful universal encoding of cancer histology by deep texture representations (DTRs) produced by a bilinear convolutional neural network. DTR-based, unsupervised histological profiling, which captures the morphological diversity, is applied to cancer biopsies and reveals relationships between histologic characteristics and the response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Content-based image retrieval based on DTRs enables the quick retrieval of histologically similar images using The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset. Furthermore, via comprehensive comparisons with driver and clinically actionable gene mutations, we successfully predict 309 combinations of genomic features and cancer types from hematoxylin-and-eosin-stained images. Among various control methods, model predictive control (MPC) is one of the major control strategies and has many successful applications. This paper presents an automatic tuning method for MPC using particle swarm optimization (PSO). One of the challenges in MPC is how control parameters can be tuned for various target plants, and the use of PSO for automatic tuning is one of the solutions. The MPC tuning problem is formulated as an optimization problem and PSO is applied as the optimization technique. PSO is one of the metaheuristic methods which are known to seek a global optimum at a relatively high ratio and with no use of a gradient. The Yonaguni Knoll IV hydrothermal vent field (24°51′N, 122°42′E) is located at water depths of 1370–1385 m near the western edge of the southern Okinawa Trough. During the YK03–05 and YK04–05 expeditions using the submersible Shinkai 6500, both hydrothermal precipitates (sulfide/sulfate/carbonate) and high temperature fluids (Tmax = 328°C) presently venting from chimney-mound structures were extensively sampled. The collected venting fluids had a wide range of chemistry (Cl concentration 376–635 mmol kg−1), which is considered as evidence for sub-seafloor phase separation. While the Cl-enriched smoky black fluids were venting from two adjacent chimney-mound structures in the hydrothermal center, the clear transparent fluids sometimes containing CO2 droplet were found in the peripheral area of the field. This distribution pattern could be explained by migration of the vapor-rich hydrothermal fluid within a porous sediment layer after the sub-seafloor phase separation. The collected hydrothermal precipitates demonstrated a diverse range of mineralization, which can be classified into five groups: (i) anhydrite-rich chimneys, immature precipitates including sulfide disseminations in anhydrite; (ii) massive Zn-Pb-Cu sulfides, consisting of sphalerite, wurtzite, galena, chalcopyrite, pyrite, and marcasite; (iii) Ba-As chimneys, composed of barite with sulfide disseminations, sometimes associated with realgar and orpiment overgrowth; (iv) Mn-rich chimneys, consisting of carbonates (calcite and magnesite) and sulfides (sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, alabandite, and minor amount of tennantite and enargite); and (v) pavement, silicified sediment including abundant native sulfur or barite. Sulfide/sulfate mineralization (groups i–iii) was found in the chimney–mound structure associated with vapor-loss (Cl-enriched) fluid venting. In contrast, the sulfide/carbonate mineralization (group iv) was specifically found in the chimneys where vapor-rich (Cl-depleted) fluid venting is expected, and the pavement (group v) was associated with diffusive venting from the seafloor sediment. This correspondence strongly suggests that the subseafloor phase separation plays an important role in the diverse range of mineralization in the Yonaguni IV field. The observed sulfide mineral assemblage was consistent with the sulfur fugacity calculated from the FeS content in sphalerite/wurtzite and the fluid temperature for each site, which suggests that the shift of the sulfur fugacity due to participation of volatile species during phase separation is an important factor to induce diverse mineralization. In contrast, carbonate mineralization is attributed to the significant mixing of vapor-rich hydrothermal fluid and seawater. A submarine hydrothermal system within a back-arc basin in the continental margin may be considered as developed in a geologic setting favorable to a diverse range of mineralization, where relatively shallow water depth induces sub-seafloor phase separation of hydrothermal fluid, and sediment accumulation could enhance migration of the vapor-rich hydrothermal fluid. An efficient catalytic system for hydrogen production from aqueous solution of urea was developed using ruthenium-based catalysts as an alternative for existing systems based on several H2 carriers. Ru/SiO2 showed the highest H2 yield among various SiO2-supported transition-metal catalysts. Optimization of the catalyst support revealed that Ru/Al2O3 exhibited the best catalytic performance, with a minimum amount of CO formed as a by-product (1.8 mol %). A mechanistic study suggested that the reaction proceeds mainly via two steps: urea hydrolysis (H2NCONH2+H2O→2 NH3+CO2) followed by NH3 decomposition (2 NH3→3 H2+N2). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Simple Summary: The endomyocardial form of restrictive cardiomyopathy, a primary disorder of the myocardium, is one of the diseases with poor prognosis in cats. While two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography has been known to identify myocardial deformations, its function relative to cats with the endomyocardial form of restrictive cardiomyopathy has yet to be characterized. We hypothesized that both the left and right myocardial functional abnormalities may occur in cats with the endomyocardial form of restrictive cardiomyopathy, causing this disease pathophysiology and clinical status. In the current study, cats were assessed for layer-specific myocardial function (whole, endocardial, and epicardial) in the left ventricular longitudinal and circumferential directions, and right ventricular longitudinal direction, via two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography. Our study indicated that cats with restrictive cardiomyopathy have reduced left ventricular myocardial function. Notably, left ventricular systolic circumferential endocardial strain and circumferential endocardial-to-epicardial strain ratio were lower in cats with restrictive cardiomyopathy. Furthermore, some right ventricular myocardial deformations were also differerent in cats with restrictive cardiomyopathy. Myocardial function assessed by two-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography could reveal left and right myocardial dysfunction. Furthermore, some right ventricular myocardial deformations (systolic longitudinal strain in epicardial layers, and endocardial-to-epicardial strain ratio) were significantly differerent in cats with EMF-RCM. Despite the accumulating evidences of the significance of humoral cancer immunity, its molecular mechanisms have largely remained elusive. Here we show that B-cell repertoire sequencing of 102 clinical gastric cancers and molecular biological analyses unexpectedly reveal that the major humoral cancer antigens are not case-specific neo-antigens but are rather commonly identified as ribonucleoproteins (RNPs) in the focal adhesion complex. These common antigens are shared as autoantigens with multiple autoimmune diseases, suggesting a direct molecular link between cancer- and auto-immunity on the focal adhesion RNP complex. This complex is partially exposed to the outside of cancer cell surfaces, which directly evokes humoral immunity and enables functional bindings of antibodies to cancer cell surfaces in physiological conditions. These findings shed light on humoral cancer immunity in that it commonly targets cellular components fundamental for cytoskeletal integrity and cell movement, pointing to a novel modality of immunotherapy using humoral immunological reactions to cancers.
