AbstractAdult goats (no.?=?18) were supplemented with chromium (Cr, 0.5?mg/kg concentrate) for 120 days as Cr chloride and Cr yeast complex and their responses in terms of glucose tolerance and serum profiles of metabolites and hormones were measured. The goats were fed 200?g/day of the concentrate and reared under a semi-intensive regimen. Cr supplementation significantly reduced serum glucose (?P?=?0.049) and cholesterol (?P?=?0.0001) levels compared with the same in the control group (calculated as % change between days 0 and 120). Bistable shells can reversibly change between two stable configurations with very little energetic input. Understanding what governs the shape and snap-through criteria of these structures is crucial for designing devices that utilize instability for functionality. Bistable cylindrical shells fabricated by stretching and bonding multiple layers of elastic plates will contain residual stress that will impact the shell's shape and the magnitude of stimulus necessary to induce snapping. Using the framework of incompatible elasticity, we first predict the mean curvature of a nearly cylindrical shell formed by arbitrarily prestretching one layer of a bilayer plate with respect to another. Then, beginning with a residually stressed cylinder, we determine the amount of the stimuli needed to trigger the snapping between two configurations through a combination of numerical simulations and theory. We demonstrate the role of prestress on the snap-through criteria, and highlight the important role that the Gaussian curvature in the boundary layer of the shell plays in dictating shell stability. We present theoretical results for electron emission in collisions between helium atoms and dressed projectiles at high energies. Double-differential cross sections (DDCSs) as a function of the emitted electron energies and angles are calculated. In our study we have applied the three-body formalism using the three-Coulomb wave (3CW–3B) model. The interaction between the dressed projectile and the active electron in the target has been approximated by a model potential having both a long-range Coulomb potential part and a short-range part. However, the active electron in the target has been treated as hydrogenic. We have also studied the projectile charge state dependence of the DDCS. Our theoretical results are compared with available experimental data as well as other theoretical calculations. The comparison shows a good agreement between the present calculations and the measurements. The obtained results are also compatible with other theoretical findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
