Kuttanad is a unique wetland agriculture system featuring polder-based rice cultivation below sea level. Facing increasing pollution threats from agrochemicals, this FAO-recognized Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) needs constant monitoring and risk assessment. The present study investigated the seasonal dynamics of agricultural pesticide residues in fish cultured in the wetland system. A total of 217 fish samples were analyzed, spanning three different sampling stations of Kuttanad, viz., Vaikom, Ramankari, and Edathua, during pre-monsoon, monsoon, and post-monsoon seasons. The results revealed the presence of 14 pesticides across locations and seasons. The pesticides found in the highest concentrations were propetamphos (54.64 mg L−1), thiacloprid (46.78 mg L−1), and diphenylamine (24.70 mg L−1). The most frequently detected pesticides were propoxur, fenuron, and thiacloprid. Contaminants were detected more frequently during the post-monsoon season (49%) compared to the monsoon (38%) and pre-monsoon (13%) seasons, with imidacloprid being present in all three seasons. The target hazard quotients (THQ) for propetamphos, thiacloprid, and diphenylamine were determined to be 0.04, 0.004, and 0.0002, respectively. The hazard index (HI) calculated as the sum of THQ of quantified pesticides was 0.056, indicating a low to moderate risk. Global male infertility correlated to the rise of endocrine-disrupting chemicals, including insecticides, has grown into a pressing problem. Thiacloprid is one of the most commonly used neonicotinoids that accounts for more than 25% of the global pesticide industry. However, its impact on the reproductive system and male fertility has not been fully elucidated. The object of this study was to explore the adverse effects of thiacloprid on male Wistar rats' reproductive system. Thirty healthy male rats were separated into one of three groups: control group, and two groups that were orally administered with low (22.5 mg/kg) and high dose (62.1 mg/kg) of thiacloprid for 56 days. Thiacloprid significantly (p<0.05) reduced body weight and relative testicular weight, as well as sperm quality (count, motility, viability, and morphology), in a dose-dependent manner. THIA-treated groups revealed a large effect (d > 0.8) on semen quality with Cohen's d of (6.57, 8.82), (20.14, 23.54), and (2.81, 9.10) for count, motility, and viability respectively. Meanwhile, the serum testosterone level dropped while the levels of luteinizing and follicle-stimulating hormones increased. 17ꞵ-hydroxy steroid dehydrogenase and 3ꞵ-hydroxy steroid dehydrogenase levels were significantly decreased in a dose-dependent manner. The activity of the tested antioxidant enzymes catalase (CAT), glutathione reduced (GSH), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) exhibited a considerable decrease compared to the control group with a significant elevation in the lipid peroxidation activity as indicated by malondialdehyde (MDA) level. The testicular histology revealed degenerative changes in spermatogenic cells and interstitial tissue. Comet assay revealed DNA fragmentation in treated groups' testicular tissue. Thiacloprid exposure interferes with reproductive function and impairs male Wistar rat fertility. Such harmful consequences may also develop in humans frequently exposed to thiacloprid. Thiacloprid, a neonicotinoid pesticide, is known to affect the gut microbiome of honeybees, yet studies often focus on immediate alternations during exposure, overlooking long-term microbiological impacts post-exposure. This study investigates the influences of sublethal thiacloprid administered during the larval developmental stage of honeybees on physiological changes and gut microbiota of adult honeybees. We found that thiacloprid exposure increased mortality and sugar intake in emerged honeybees. Using 16S rDNA sequencing, we analyzed intestinal microbial diversity of honeybees at one and six days post-emergence. Our findings reveal a significant but transient disruption in gut microbiota on day 1, with recovery from dysbiosis by day 6. In order to assess compliance with maximum residue levels in foods and evaluate the exposure of the Danish population to pesticides, a comprehensive monitoring programme was conducted. The work from 2012-2017 involved testing pesticide residues in fruits, vegetables, cereals, animal product and processed commodities. The sampling strategy, mainly based on exposure calculations and previous findings, involved the collection of 13,492 samples primarily from fresh conventional and organic produces on the Danish market. The origin of the samples varied, with 34% being of Danish origin and 67% originating from EU and non-EU countries. The results revealed that residues in conventionally grown produce were detected in 54% of the fruit and vegetable samples, and 30% of the cereal samples. Additionally, residues above the maximum residue limits were found in 1.8% of these samples, most frequently in fruits. As previous years, more residues were found in samples of foreign origin compared to samples of Danish origin. Compared to earlier findings more than 40 pesticides were detected for the first time and including boscalid, imidacloprid, thiacloprid, etofenprox, and spinosad, all detected more than 100 times. Neonicotinoids (NEOs), used as insecticides against aphids, whiteflies, lepidopterans, and beetles, have numerous detrimental impacts on human health, including chronic illnesses, cancer, infertility, and birth anomalies. Monitoring the residues in food products is necessary to guarantee public health and ecological balance. The present work validated a new method to measure seven neonicotinoid insecticides (acetamiprid ACT, clothianidin CLT, dinotefuran DNT, imidacloprid IMD, nitenpyram NTP, thiacloprid TCP, and thiamethoxan THT) in wheat. The analytical procedure was based on simple and fast wheat sample cleanup using solid-phase extraction (SPE) to remove interferents and enrich the NEOs, alongside the NEOs' separation and quantification by reverse-phase chromatography coupled with a diode array detector (DAD). The validation process was validated using the accuracy profile strategy, a straightforward decision tool based on the measure of the total error (bias plus standard deviation) of the method. Our results proved that, in the future, at least 95% of the results obtained with the proposed method would fall within the ±15% acceptance limits. The test's cost-effectiveness, rapidity, and simplicity suggest its use for determining the levels of acetamiprid, clothianidin, dinotefuran, imidacloprid, nitenpyram, thiacloprid, and thiamethoxam in routine analyses of wheat. Background: Neonicotinoids are a group of synthetic insecticides that are highly effective and have a wide range of insecticidal activities. This group includes acetamiprid, dinotefuran, clothianidin, imidacloprid, sulfoxaflor, nitenpyram, thiamethoxam, and thiacloprid. They are extensively used worldwide, both in rural and urban environments. However, the widespread use of neonicotinoids has led to their accumulation and biomagnification in the environment due to their long half-life. This has resulted in the emergence of toxicological and hazardous pollutants, posing significant risks to humans and non-target animals. Neonicotinoids are a type of insecticides that bind to neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). This mechanism allows them to effectively activate insect nAChRs while having minimal impact on vertebrate nAChRs. This reduces the risk of toxicity and makes them safer for non-target species. However, the presence of neonicotinoids in the environment can still increase the risk of toxicity and exposure. Although they have low affinity for mammalian nAChRs, concerns arise due to the abundance, diversity, and widespread presence of these receptors, as well as their various functions. These factors raise concerns about the potential impact of these pesticides on unintended species. Therefore, it is crucial to remove neonicotinoids from the environment in a sustainable and methodical manner. Various techniques can be employed to eliminate neonicotinoid residues in soil and aquatic habitats. These techniques include physiochemical remediation methods such as advanced oxidation processes, adsorption, oxidation, Fenton technology, photocatalysis, and activated persulfate-based oxidation. Additionally, microbial remediation techniques involving bacteria, fungi, and microalgae can also be utilized. This review aims to focus on the scientific foundation, advancements, and key topics related to microbial remediation technologies for neonicotinoids. Proper implementation of bioremediation techniques can significantly reduce the harmful effects of neonicotinoids on the environment and human health. Short conclusion: The main focus of this review is the new studies on the bioremediation of neonicotinoids by bacteria, fungi, and microalgae, and the role of their enzymes. With projections suggesting an increase in the global use of neonicotinoids, contemporary farmers can get caught on the "pesticide treadmill", thus creating ecosystem side effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the sorption/desorption behavior of acetamiprid, imidacloprid, and thiacloprid that controls their availability to other fate-determining processes and thus could be useful in leveling the risk these insecticides or their structural analogues pose to the environment, animals, and human health. Sorption/desorption isotherms in four soils with different organic matter (OC) content were modelled by nonlinear equilibrium models: Freundlich's, Langmuir's, and Temkin's. Sorption/desorption parameters obtained by Freundlich's model were correlated to soil physico-chemical characteristics. Even though the OC content had the dominant role in the sorption of the three insecticides, the role of its nature as well as the chemical structure of neonicotinoids cannot be discarded. Insecticides sorbed in the glassy OC phase will be poorly available unlike those in the rubbery regions. Imidacloprid will fill the sorption sites equally in the rubbery and glassy phases irrespective of its concentration. The sorption of thiacloprid at low concentrations and acetamiprid at high concentrations is controlled by hydrophilic aromatic structures, "trapping" the insecticides in the pores of the glassy phase of OC. An experiment was conducted to study the bioefficacy of six different insecticides (thiamethoxam 25 WG @ 0.01%, thiacloprid 21.7 SC @ 0.0032%, buprofezin 25EC @ 0.05%, spinosad 48 SC @ 0.017%, chlorantraniliprole 18.5 SC @ 0.007% and fenpropathrin 30 EC @ 0.01%) with a control (water spray) against sucking pests, viz., shoot and fruit borers, jassids, whiteflies and aphids, and harvest time residues in brinjal (Surti Ravaiya) at the College Farm, North Asian University, and Navsari during summer-2020. Among the different insecticides evaluated, chlorantraniliprole and spinosad were the most effective, fenpropathrin and buprofezin were the least effective insecticides against shoot and fruit borers, respectively. Thiamethoxam and thiacloprid were the most effective agents. Fenpropathrin and buprofezin were the least effective against whiteflies, jassids and aphids. After two hours of spray, the initial deposition order of the experimental insecticides was buprofezin (10.382 mg/kg) > fenpropathrin (5.602 mg/kg) > chlorantraniliprole (5.097 mg/kg) > thiamethoxam (4.886 mg/kg) > spinosad (3.984 mg/kg) > thiacloprid (3.332 mg/kg), while after 4 days of spray, the residue status of the brinjal fruit was in the order of fenpropathrin (0.539 mg/kg) > chlorantraniliprole (0.154 mg/kg) > thiacloprid (0.127 mg/kg) > thiamethoxam (0.099 mg/kg) > buprofezin (0.076 mg/kg) > spinosad (BDL). Overall, the highest percentage degradation of insecticide residues in brinjal fruits was registered with spinosad (100%), followed by buprofezin (99.26%), thiamethoxam (97.97%), chlorantraniliprole (96.97%), thiacloprid (96.18%) and fenpropathrin (90.37%) after 4 days of II spray. The Colorado potato beetle (CPB; Leptinotarsa decemlineata) is an important potato pest with known resistance to pyrethroids and organophosphates in Czechia. Decreased efficacy of neonicotinoids has been observed in last decade. After the restriction of using chlorpyrifos, thiacloprid and thiamethoxam by EU regulation, growers seek for information about the resistance of CPB to used insecticides and recommended antiresistant strategies. The development of CPB resistance to selected insecticides was evaluated in bioassays in 69 local populations from Czechia in 2017–2022 and in 2007–2022 in small plot experiments in Zabcice in South Moravia. The mortality in each subpopulation in the bioassays was evaluated at the field-recommended rates of insecticides to estimate the 50% and 90% lethal concentrations (LC50 and LC90, respectively). High levels of CPB resistance to lambda-cyhalothrin and chlorpyrifos were demonstrated throughout Czechia, without significant changes between years and regions. The average mortality after application of the field-recommended rate of lambda-cyhalothrin was influenced by temperature before larvae were sampled for bioassays and decreased with increasing temperature in June. Downwards trends in the LC90 values of chlorpyrifos and the average mortality after application of the field-recommended rate of acetamiprid in the bioassay were recorded over a 6-year period. The baseline LC50 value (with 95% confidence limit) of 0.04 mg/L of chlorantraniliprole was established for Czech populations of CPBs for the purpose of resistance monitoring in the next years. Thiacloprid (THI) is a neonicotinoid insecticide, and its wide‐ranging use has contributed to severe environmental and health problems. Dendrobium officinale polysaccharide (DOP) possesses multiple biological activities such as antioxidant and antiapoptosis effect. Although present research has shown that THI causes kidney injury, the exact molecular mechanism and treatment of THI‐induced kidney injury remain unclear. The study aimed to investigate if DOP could alleviate THI‐induced kidney injury and identify the potential molecular mechanism in quails. In this study, Japanese quails received DOP (200 mg/kg) daily with or without THI (4 mg/kg) exposure for 42 days. Our results showed that DOP improved hematological changes, biochemical indexes, and nephric histopathological changes induced by THI. Meanwhile, THI exposure caused oxidative stress, apoptosis, and autophagy. Furthermore, THI and DOP cotreatment significantly activated the nuclear factor erythroid 2‐related factor 2/heme oxygenase‐1 (Nrf2/HO‐1) pathway, restored antioxidant enzyme activity, and reduced apoptosis and autophagy in quail kidneys. In summary, our study demonstrated that DOP mitigated THI‐mediated kidney injury was associated with oxidative stress, apoptosis, and autophagy via activation of the Nrf2/HO‐1 signaling pathway in quails. The persistence in the environment and possible harmful effects of neonicotinoid insecticides have raised some concerns, which have led to the proposal of various measures for their remediation. The aim of this work was to study the elimination of five neonicotinoids (thiamethoxam (THM), imidacloprid (IMI), clothianidin (CLO), thiacloprid (THC), and acetamiprid (ACE)) using ferrate (Fe(VI)) as the oxidizing agent. Firstly, second-order rate constants for the reactions of neonicotinoids with Fe(VI) were determined at different pHs. The most reactive compound was THC, with a rate constant of 400 ± 43 M−1 s−1 at pH 8 (the optimum pH considering the predominance of the most reactive species (HFeO4−) and the decreasing self-decomposition of Fe(VI) with pH), followed by CLO (10.7 ± 1.7 M−1 s−1), THM (9.7 ± 0.7 M−1 s−1), and IMI (2.5 ± 0.6 M−1 s−1). ACE did not significantly react with Fe(VI). The oxidation of the selected pollutants in secondary effluents by Fe(VI) was rather slow, and only THC could be efficiently removed. The presence of natural organic matter (NOM) exerted a negative influence on the removal of the neonicotinoids of moderate reactivity with Fe(VI) (CLO, THM, and IMI). The additional presence of peroxymonosulfate (Fe(VI)/PMS system) slightly increased the removal of neonicotinoids due to the formation of hydroxyl and sulfate radicals. Finally, the application of the Fe(VI)/sulfite system considerably increased the oxidation rate of the selected pollutants, with enhanced formation of hydroxyl and, especially, sulfate radicals. Overall, these results suggest that the Fe(VI)/sulfite system has significant potential to address environmental and health concerns associated with neonicotinoids in water sources with low NOM content. The insecticide known as neonicotinoid has negative impacts on the ecosystem, human health, and the environment; specifically, its effects on the relationship between crop yields and the death rate of natural pollinators, such as bees, affect food security. The active ingredients in neonicotinoids include imidacloprid, clothianidin, thiamethoxam, acetamiprid, sulfoxaflor, and thiacloprid, which are sold under various trade names. For many of the components of these toxic insecticides, patents have been expired; however, farmers and consumers who continue to use these chemicals are unaware of the products' toxicity and the environmental effects they have. Thus, agricultural industries are required to consider diverse methods to minimize neonicotinoid use in farming operations and move away from the current prevailing methods. In this short review, the negative effects of neonicotinoid use; the toxic components, health effects, and environmental regulations of neonicotinoids; and sustainable methods to minimize their use are examined. Neonicotinoids (NEOs) have been designed to act selectively on insect nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs). However, nAChRs are also expressed in vertebrate immune cells, so NEOs may interfere with the immune system in exposed non-target animals. The present study shows that NEOs: imidacloprid and thiacloprid, and their main metabolites: desnitro-imidacloprid and thiacloprid amide, at sub-micromolar concentrations ranging from 2.25 to 20 μM, affect the immune cells of fish. This was found both in primary cultures of leukocytes isolated from the carp head kidney and in the continuous adherent carp monocyte/macrophage cell line. Moreover, the results revealed that the studied pesticides and metabolites generate oxidative stress in carp immune cells and that this is one of the most important mechanisms of neonicotinoid immunotoxicity. Significant increases were observed in the formation of ROS and malondialdehyde (MDA). The antioxidant status alteration was linked with decrease in antioxidant enzyme activity: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and non-enzymatic antioxidant glutathione (GSH). Importantly, the metabolites: desnitro-imidacloprid and thiacloprid amide showed significantly higher cytotoxicity towards fish leukocytes than their parent compounds, imidacloprid and thiacloprid, which emphasizes the importance of including intermediate metabolites in toxicology studies. The bio-efficacy study with different insecticides against pigeonpea pod fly was conducted at the research fields of the Zonal Agricultural Research Station, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bengaluru to evaluate different insecticides against pod fly, Melanagromyza obtusa (Malloch) infesting pigeonpea pods. The results revealed that two sprays of acetamiprid 20% SP @ 0.2 g/l at fifteen days interval starting from 50 per cent flowering stage was found to be the most effective insecticide against pod fly which recorded least per cent pod and grain damage with maximum Incremental Cost Benefit Ratio (12.92). Dinotefuran 20% SG @ 0.3 g/l was also showed similar effectiveness against M. obtusa. The next best insecticide treatments were thiacloprid 21.7% SC @ 0.7 ml/l and thiamethoxam 25% WG @ 0.4 g/l + jaggery @ 5 g/l. Spinosad 45% SC @ 0.2 ml/l and lufenuron 5.4% EC @ 1ml/l, observed to be moderately effective against pod fly infestation. Diafenthiuron 50% WP @ 1 g/l, flubendiamide 39.35% SC @ 0.3 ml/l and azadirachtin 0.15% @ 5 ml/l were found to be least effective compared to rest of the insecticidal treatments. Thiacloprid is an insecticide of the neonicotinoid family that acts on the insect's nAChR receptor and causes its paralysis and subsequent death. The genotoxicity of the insecticide Calypso® 480 SC (with the active substance thiacloprid) to human peripheral lymphocytes was examined in vitro by comet analysis and phosphorylated H2AX, where we detected DNA breaks. To detect DNA damage in comet analysis, we used thiacloprid-based insecticide in three different concentrations (60, 240, and 480 μg.ml−1) during 2 h of exposure. We recorded a statistically significant percentage of damage at a concentration of 240 and 480 μg.ml−1. We monitored the toxicity of thiacloprid using yH2AX foci, and we did not observe a statistically significant number of foci compared to the negative control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An evaluation of the effect of thiacloprid (21.7% SC), an N-cyanoamidine neonicotinoid exposure on honey bees Apis mellifera F. was done under field conditions. Study on foraging behaviour, mortality and food stores were carried out with 500, 325, 250, 125, 62.50, and 31.25 ppm, while 0 ppm concentration served as control. Of these, a significant effect was observed with 500 and 325 ppm as could be observed from the foraging behaviour. Thus, thiacloprid is found to be safe at lower concentrations <250 ppm. Neonicotinoid pesticides are utilized against an extensive range of insects. A growing body of evidence supports that these neuro-active insecticides are classified as toxicants in invertebrates. However, there is limited published data regarding their toxicity in vertebrates and mammals. the current systematic review is focused on the up-to-date knowledge available for several neonicotinoid pesticides and their non-acute toxicity on rodents and human physiology. Oral lethal dose 50 (LD50) of seven neonicotinoids (i.e. imidacloprid, acetamiprid, clothianidin, dinotefuran, thiamethoxam, thiacloprid, and nitenpyram) was initially identified. Subsequently, a screening of the literature was conducted to collect information about non-acute exposure to these insecticides. 99 studies were included and assessed for their risk of bias and level of evidence according to the Office of Health and Translation (OHAT) framework. All the 99 included papers indicate evidence of reproductive toxicity, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, and oxidative stress induction with a high level of evidence in the health effect of rodents and a moderate level of evidence for human health. The most studied type of these insecticides among 99 papers was imidacloprid (55 papers), followed by acetamiprid (22 papers), clothianidin (21 papers), and thiacloprid (11 papers). While 10 of 99 papers assessed the relationship between clothianidin, thiamethoxam, dinotefuran, and nitenpyram, showing evidence of liver injury, dysfunctions of oxidative stress markers in the reproductive system, and intestinal toxicity. This systematic review provides a comprehensive overview of the potential risks caused by neonicotinoid insecticides to humans and rodents with salient health effects. However, further research is needed to better emphasize and understand the patho-physiological mechanisms of these insecticides, taking into account various factors that can influence their toxicity. Recent work has demonstrated that many bee species have specific cytochrome P450 enzymes (P450s) that can efficiently detoxify certain insecticides. The presence of these P450s, belonging or closely related to the CYP9Q subfamily (CYP9Q‐related), is generally well conserved across the diversity of bees. However, the alfalfa leafcutter bee, Megachile rotundata, lacks CYP9Q‐related P450s and is 170–2500 times more sensitive to certain insecticides than bee pollinators with these P450s. The extent to which these findings apply to other Megachilidae bee species remains uncertain. To address this knowledge gap, we sequenced the transcriptomes of four Megachile species and leveraged the data obtained, in combination with publicly available genomic data, to investigate the evolution and function of P450s in the Megachilidae. Our analyses reveal that several Megachilidae species, belonging to the Lithurgini, Megachilini and Anthidini tribes, including all species of the Megachile genus investigated, lack CYP9Q‐related genes. In place of these genes Megachile species have evolved phylogenetically distinct CYP9 genes, the CYP9DM lineage. Functional expression of these P450s from M. rotundata reveal they lack the capacity to metabolize the neonicotinoid insecticides thiacloprid and imidacloprid. In contrast, species from the Osmiini and Dioxyini tribes of Megachilidae have CYP9Q‐related P450s belonging to the CYP9BU subfamily that are able to detoxify thiacloprid. These findings provide new insight into the evolution of P450s that act as key determinants of insecticide sensitivity in bees and have important applied implications for pesticide risk assessment. Honey bees have significant ecological and economic value as important pollinators, but they are continuously exposed to various environmental stressors, including insecticides, which can impair their health and cause colony decline. (1) Background: Cognitive abilities are vital for the functional maintenance of honey bees; however, it remains unknown if chronic, low-dose exposure to thiacloprid during the larval stage impairs the cognitive abilities of emerged adult honey bees. (2) Methods: To explore this question, honey bee larvae were fed 0, 0.5, and 1.0 mg/L thiacloprid during their developmental phase. Then, the cognitive (i.e., olfactory learning and memory) abilities of adult honey bees were quantified to assess the delayed impacts of early-stage thiacloprid exposure on adult honey bee cognition. Neural apoptosis and transcriptomic level were also evaluated to explore the neurological mechanisms underlying these effects. The presence of insecticide residues in chilli fruits limits the export and poses a health risk to consumers. Thus, it is necessary to develop quick and effective methods for conducting residue analysis of commonly used insecticides. The present research validates a modified QuEChERS technique for analysing thiacloprid and emamectin benzoate residues in chilli using UHPLC. The proposed methods recovered thiacloprid and emamectin benzoate by 80.33-88% and 79.33-96%, respectively. LOQ for both the insecticides was 0.01 mg/kg. Matrix effect values were within an acceptable range of -20 to 20%. The developed methodology can be used for periodical monitoring of the residue levels of the target insecticides in chilli. Among the various insecticides evaluated for their field efficacy against pod borers of Indian bean, the treatment of emamectin benzoate 5SG at 0.002%, indoxacarb 14.5SC at 0.007% and lambdacyhalothrin 5SC at 0.005% were found to be most effective against Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) and Maruca vitrata Geyer. While, thiacloprid 21.7SC at 0.012% and novaluron 10EC at 0.01% were moderately effective. The least pod damage was observed with emamectin benzoate 5SG at 0.002% (13.16%) which was at par with indoxacarb 14.5SC at 0.007% (14.16%) and lambdacyhalothrin 5SC at 0.005% (16.33%). Xenobiotics, which include a wide range of synthetic chemicals and compounds, have become a significant threat to water quality and biodiversity. The need for innovative and sustainable solutions to mitigate the impact of pollutants on our ecosystems has become a hot topic of numerous discussions and research. One such solution lies in the potential application of simulated solar radiation and hydrogen peroxide to remove pesticides from aqueous solutions. In this paper, we investigated the possibility of removing selected pesticides (acetamiprid, clothianidin, and thiacloprid) under the influence of simulated solar radiation with and without the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The influence of pH value and H2O2 concentration on removal and toxicity before and after photolytic removal was examined. The results showed that clothianidin is almost completely removed (94.80–96.35%) after 5 h under the influence of simulated solar radiation, while thiacloprid and acetamiprid confirm their persistence and resistance to photolytic degradation. The addition of H2O2 leads to the removal of all three pesticides and results in a significant acceleration of the degradation process itself and the removal of the individual pesticides already within 2 h. The green peach aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), is an economically devastating crop pest worldwide. The M. persicae (SEF-R) population of a cabbage field in China was tested for susceptibilities to 13 insecticides. Compared with the susceptible population (FFJ-S), extremely high and high resistance to beta-cypermethrin (324-fold) and imidacloprid (106.9-fold) was detected in SEF-R. More importantly, this is the first report of resistance in the field M. persicae population to sulfoxaflor (32.4-fold), flupyradifurone (9.5-fold), pymetrozine (34.8-fold), spirotetramat (8.1-fold), flonicamid (5.8-fold), and broflanilide (15.8-fold) in China when compared with FFJ-S. The resistance factor decayed to a low level to sulfoxaflor and pymetrozine after 15 generations without any selection pressure. The resistance-related mutations (R81T and kdr) detected in SEF indicated target-site resistance to neonicotinoids and pyrethroids, respectively. Biochemical assays revealed the involvement of monooxygenase, carboxylesterase, superoxide dismutase, and peroxidase in a multi-insecticide resistance mechanism. The overexpression of P450s, esterases, and a UDP-glycosyltransferase might be responsible for the multi-insecticide resistance in SEF-R. The knockdown of CYP6CY3 in SEF-R increased its susceptibility to imidacloprid, thiacloprid, and thiamethoxam, which verified that P450s play vital roles in neonicotinoid metabolism. Although stable isotope analysis (SIA) is widely used to address ecological research questions, its application in an ecotoxicological context has been limited. Recent studies have proposed an effect of chemical stressors on an organism's isotope signature, questioning the use of SIA in food webs impacted by toxicants. Against this background, the present study investigates 1) whether trophic enrichment factors (TEFs; i.e., the offset in stable isotope signatures of a consumer to its diet) are altered by the neonicotinoid thiacloprid, and 2) whether tracking toxicant effects on an organism's diet composition (i.e., indirect effect) with SIA fits direct observations of consumption. To address the former, the amphipod Gammarus fossarum (Koch) was exposed to three levels (0, 0.75, and 5 µg L–1) of thiacloprid and fed with either black alder leaves or Baetis rhodani (Pictet) larvae over 6 weeks (n = 35). The thiacloprid‐induced changes in TEFs that we found were statistically significant but small compared with other factors (e.g., resource quality, consumer, and physiological condition) and thus likely of minor importance. To address the latter issue, gammarids were exposed to two levels of thiacloprid (0 and 0.75 µg L–1) and fed with either black alder leaves, live B. rhodani larvae, or both over 2 weeks (n = 10). Dietary proportions as suggested by SIA were indeed in agreement with those derived from direct observation of consumption. The present study consequently suggests that SIA is as a robust tool to detect indirect toxicant effects especially if TEFs are assessed in parallel. The introduction of pollutants, such as thiacloprid and benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P), into the waters of urbanized coastal and estuarine areas through fossil fuel spills, domestic and industrial waste discharges, atmospheric inputs, and continental runoff poses a major threat to the fauna and flora of the aquatic environment and can have a significant impact on the internal defense system of invertebrates such as mussels. Using monoclonal and polyclonal anti-Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and anti-inducible nitric oxide synthetase (iNOS) antibodies for the first time, this work aims to examine hemocytes in the mantle and gills of M. galloprovincialis as biomarkers of thiacloprid and B[a]P pollution and analyze their potential synergistic effect. To pursue this objective, samples were exposed to the pollutants, both individually and simultaneously. Subsequently, oxidative stress biomarkers were evaluated by enzymatic analysis, while tissue changes and the number of hemocytes in the different contaminated groups were assessed via histomorphological and immunohistochemical analyses. Our findings revealed that in comparison to a single exposure, the two pollutants together significantly elevated oxidative stress. Moreover, our data may potentially enhance knowledge on how TLR2 and iNOS work as part of the internal defense system of bivalves. This would help in creating new technologies and strategies, such as biosensors, that are more suitable for managing water pollution, and garnering new details on the condition of the marine ecosystem. Indonesia as a megadiverse country and the third largest rice producer in the world utilizes neonicotinoids, a group of systemic insecticides reported to have polluted environmental waters and reduced the abundance of aquatic invertebrates mostly in sub-tropical and temperate countries. To date, no study and regulation on neonicotinoid pollution have been established in Indonesian environmental waters which situates in tropical zone. This research investigated neonicotinoid pollution in seven types of environmental waters of Indramayu Regency (one of the largest rice-producing areas in Indonesia), and assessed the potential risk and toxicity level of detected neonicotinoids to the tropical aquatic environment. Data collections included water sampling and analysis using LC/MS/MS. Results showed that the detection frequency of neonicotinoids was 53% (in 17 out of 32 samples), with imidacloprid and thiamethoxam being the most common compounds detected. The highest total concentration (140.26 ng/L) and the highest concentrations of imidacloprid, thiamethoxam, thiacloprid, dinotefuran, and acetamiprid (48.98 ng/L, 65.14 ng/L, 16.66 ng/L, 23.12 ng/L, and 25.04 ng/L, respectively) were detected in estuaries and mangrove areas. No sample was found to have neonicotinoid concentration above the acute and chronic toxicities of several tropical aquatic organisms assessed. About 19% of the samples contained imidacloprid exceeding the chronic thresholds regulated by The Netherlands, while 6% were also above The United States' regulation, thus encouraging the establishment of necessary actions to prevent unwanted disturbance to the aquatic ecosystem. Neonicotinoids are one of the newest groups of systemic pesticides, effective on a wide range of invertebrate pests. The success of neonicotinoids can be assessed according to the amount used, for example, in the Czech Republic, which now accounts for 1/3 of the insecticide market. The European Union (EU) has a relatively interesting attitude towards neonicotinoids. Three neonicotinoid substances (imidacloprid, clothianidin and thiamethoxam) were severely restricted in 2013. In 2019, imidacloprid and clothianidin were banned, while thiamethoxam and thiacloprid were banned in 2020. In 2022, another substance, sulfoxaflor, was banned. Therefore, only two neonicotinoid substances (acetamiprid and flupyradifurone) are approved for outdoor use in the EU. Neonicotinoids enter aquatic ecosystems in many ways. In European rivers, neonicotinoids usually occur in nanograms per litre. Due to the low toxicity of neonicotinoids to standard test species, they were not expected to significantly impact the aquatic ecosystem until later studies showed that aquatic invertebrates, especially insects, are much more sensitive to neonicotinoids. In addition to the lethal effects, many studies point to sublethal impacts - reduced reproductive capacity, initiation of downstream drift of organisms, reduced ability to eat, or a change in feeding strategies. The insecticidal activity of 38 commercialized pesticides against Atractomorpha lata nymphs in Korea was studied. Seven pesticides showed greater than 70% insecticidal activity against A. lata nymphs after 48 h of treatment, and similar results were observed for adult A. lata using the spray method. The insecticidal activity of the seven pesticides, except for thiacloprid, against Oxya sinuosa adults was similar to that against A. lata. Clothianidin, tetraniliprole, and thiacloprid showed higher toxicity when plants and insects were treated together than when insects were treated directly, indicating that pesticides have ingestion toxicity against A. lata. Clothianidin and thiacloprid have been observed to have knockdown effects on both A. lata nymphs and adults. Tetraniliprole showed 86.7% mortality until 7 days after treatment in the residual effect test of pesticide exposure under field conditions. The use of agricultural neonicotinoid insecticides has sub-lethal chronic effects on bees that are more prevalent than acute toxicity. Among these insecticides, thiacloprid, a commonly used compound with low toxicity, has attracted significant attention due to its potential impact on the olfactory and learning abilities of honeybees. The effect of sub-lethal larval exposure to thiacloprid on the antennal activity of adult honeybees (Apis mellifera L.) is not yet fully understood. To address this knowledge gap, laboratory-based experiments were conducted in which honeybee larvae were administered thiacloprid (0.5 mg/L and 1.0 mg/L). Using electroantennography (EAG), the impacts of thiacloprid exposure on the antennal selectivity to common floral volatiles were evaluated. Additionally, the effects of sub-lethal exposure on odor-related learning and memory were also assessed. The results of this study reveal, for the first time, that sub-lethal larval exposure to thiacloprid decreased honeybee antenna EAG responses to floral scents, leading to increased olfactory selectivity in the high-dose (1.0 mg/L) group compared to the control group (0 mg/L vs. 1.0 mg/L: p = 0.042). The results also suggest that thiacloprid negatively affected odor-associated paired learning acquisition, as well as medium-term (1 h) (0 mg/L vs. 1.0 mg/L: p = 0.019) and long-term memory (24 h) (0 mg/L vs. 1.0 mg/L: p = 0.037) in adult honeybees. EAG amplitudes were dramatically reduced following R-linalool paired olfactory training (0 mg/L vs. 1.0 mg/L: p = 0.001; 0 mg/L vs. 0.5 mg/L: p = 0.027), while antennal activities only differed significantly in the control between paired and unpaired groups. Our results indicated that exposure to sub-lethal concentrations of thiacloprid may affect olfactory perception and learning and memory behaviors in honeybees. Although pesticides are often discharged into surface waters in pulses as opposed to a sustained release, the effect of episodic pollution events on freshwater crayfish is largely unknown. We monitored change in heart rate and distance moved to assess the response of signal crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus to short-term exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of metazachlor (MTZ), terbuthylazine (TER), and thiacloprid (TCL). Crayfish exposed to 20 µg/L of MTZ exhibited a significant increase in mean heart rate and distance moved. Increased heart rate was detected at 118 ± 74 s post-exposure to MTZ. There were no significant differences in mean heart rate and distance moved in crayfish exposed to 6 µg/L of TCL and 4 µg/L of TER. A significant correlation between heart rate and distance moved was found in all exposed groups. These results suggest that pulse exposure to MTZ impact crayfish physiology and behavior during short-term period. With pulse exposure to TCL and TER, crayfish not exhibiting a locomotor response may continue to be exposed to lower, but potentially harmful, levels of pollutants. Evidence of the impacts of pesticide pulse at environmentally relevant concentrations on crayfish is scarce. In January 2023, the derogation loophole was closed on "emergency authorisations" for the use of three out of five neonicotinoids in all EU states. In this study, we analysed the sorption/desorption behaviour and kinetic parameters of acetamiprid and thiacloprid, the two neonicotinoids that are still approved for use, either regularly or under emergency authorisations in the EU, and widely used worldwide. Sorption and desorption curves in four soils with different organic matter content were analysed using four kinetic models, namely, Lagergren's pseudo first-order model, two-site model (TSM), Weber–Morris intraparticle diffusion model and Elovich's model. Kinetic parameters were correlated to soil physico-chemical characteristics. To determine the mutual influence of soil characteristics and sorption/desorption parameters in the analysed soils, a factor analysis based on principal component analysis (PCA) was performed. Even though the two insecticides are very similar in size and chemical structure, the results showed different sorption/desorption kinetics. The model that best fits the experimental data was TSM. Thiacloprid showed a more rapid sorption compared to acetamiprid, and, in all soils, a higher proportion sorbed at equilibrium. Intra-particle diffusion seemed to be a relevant process in acetamiprid sorption, but not for thiacloprid. Desorption results showed that acetamiprid is more easily and more thoroughly desorbed than thiacloprid, in all soils. Blood cells are constantly exposed to several pollutants, including xenobiotics, and they can be considered a useful target for pollution exposition of the animal. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of two xenobiotics (Quaternium-15, a preservative used in personal care products, and Thiacloprid, a neonicotinoid pesticide) on the haematological profile and erythrocyte osmotic fragility (EOF) of equine and bovine blood samples. Ten blood samples from horses and cows were exposed for 24 h to Quaternium-15 at a concentration of 0.1 and 1 mg/L and to Thiacloprid at a concentration of 30 and 60 µg/mL. A decrease in the values of the red blood cells, white blood cells, haematocrit, haemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume, and platelets, and an increase of EOF were found in blood samples exposed to xenobiotics compared to the control. According to the results gathered in the current study, the two xenobiotic compounds herein tested negatively affect the haematological indices causing haemolysis both in cattle and horse blood. Thiacloprid (TH) is a neurotoxic agricultural insecticide and potential food contaminant. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between TH exposure and memory dysfunction in rats, as well as the potential protective effect of piracetam and piracetam-loaded magnetic chitosan nanoparticles (PMC NPs). Rats were divided into five equal groups (six rats/group). The control group received saline. Group II was treated with PMC NPs at a dose level of 200 mg/kg body weight (Bwt); Group III was treated with 1/10 LD50 of TH (65 mg/kg Bwt); Group IV was treated with TH (65 mg/kg Bwt) and piracetam (200 mg/kg Bwt); Group V was co-treated with TH (65 mg/kg Bwt) and PMC NPs (200 mg/kg Bwt). All animal groups were dosed daily for 6 weeks by oral gavage. Footprint analysis, hanging wire test, open field test, and Y-maze test were employed to assess behavioral deficits. Animals were euthanized, and brain tissues were analyzed for oxidative stress biomarkers, proinflammatory cytokines, and gene expression levels of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), amyloid-beta precursor protein (APP), B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2), and caspase-3. Brain and sciatic nerve tissues were used for the evaluation of histopathological changes and immunohistochemical expression of tau protein and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), respectively. The results revealed that TH-treated rats suffered from oxidative damage and inflammatory effect on the central and peripheral nerves. The administration of PMC NPs considerably protected against TH-induced neuronal damage, increased antioxidant enzyme activity, decreased inflammatory markers, and improved behavioral performance than the group treated with piracetam. The neuroprotective effect of PMC NPs was mediated through the inhibition of GFAP, APP, caspase-3, Tau, and NF-κB gene expression with induction of Bcl-2 expression. In conclusion, TH could induce oxidative stress, inflammatory and neurobehavior impairment in rats. Background: Scientific research will continue to search for the best methods to control the insect pests and at the same time reduce insecticide concentrations used. Using of nanoinsecticide formulations may be resolving this problem. Methods: In this work two types of formulations were used; nanoformulations and their conventional formulations. Three common insecticides were used against the silver whitefly, Bemisia tabaci; indoxacarb, spirotetramat and thiacloprid in tomato fields. The nanoparticle sizes were ranged between 210 and 290 nm. The loading capacities were 70.6, 71.2 and 69.1% for indoxacarb, spirotetramat and thiacloprid, respectively. The recommended field concentration for each insecticide was used. The concentrations of nanoformulations were one-fifth of conventional one. Result: The obtained results showed that indoxacarb was the most effective insecticide against the B. tabaci in tomato field with the both formulations (nano and conventional) followed by thiacloprid and spirotetramat. By using of nanoformulations, the per cent of reduction after the third application were 97.7, 38.2 and 44.8%, for indoxacarb, spirotetramat and thiacloprid, respectively. While, the corresponding results with the conventional formulation were 97, 39.8 and 49.2%, respectively. The obtained results also, showed that there were no difference between the nano and conventional formulations. The per cent of B. tabaci reduction after the third application were 97.7 and 97.0; and 38.2 and 39.8; and 44.8 and 49.2% for nano and conventional indoxacarb, spirotetramat and thiacloprid, respectively. In accordance with Article 43 of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, the European Commission requested EFSA to assess whether existing maximum residue levels (MRLs) based on codex maximum residue limits (CXLs) and import tolerances for thiacloprid are safe for consumers in light of the lowered toxicological acute reference value established following the non‐renewal of approval of the active substance thiacloprid. Based on the assessment, EFSA identified a potential acute concern for the CXL on peaches and sweet peppers. Pesticide exposure has been cited as a key threat to insect pollinators. Notably, a diverse range of potential sublethal effects have been reported in bee species, with a particular focus on effects due to exposure to neonicotinoid insecticides. Here, a purpose-built thermal–visual arena was used in a series of pilot experiments to assess the potential impact of approximate sublethal concentrations of the next generation sulfoximine insecticide sulfoxaflor (5 and 50 ppb) and the neonicotinoid insecticides thiacloprid (500 ppb) and thiamethoxam (10 ppb), on the walking trajectory, navigation and learning abilities of the buff-tailed bumblebee (Bombus terrestris audax) when subjected to an aversive conditioning task. The results suggest that only thiamethoxam prevents forager bees from improving in key training parameters (speed and distanced travelled) within the thermal visual arena. Power law analyses further revealed that a speed–curvature power law, previously reported as being present in the walking trajectories of bumblebees, is potentially disrupted under thiamethoxam (10 ppb) exposure, but not under sulfoxaflor or thiacloprid exposure. The pilot assay described provides a novel tool with which to identify subtle sublethal pesticide impacts, and their potential causes, on forager bees, that current ecotoxicological tests are not designed to assess. Thiacloprid (TH), one of the most widely used pesticides in the world, might cause toxic effects like DNA damage in humans and animals due to their frequent use. Accordingly, this study investigated TH's potential DNA-damaging effects on zebrafish liver via alkaline comet assay. Two treatment groups of ten zebrafish each were exposed to TH at two different concentrations, 1.64 and 0.82 mg/L, for 21 days and compared with an untreated control group. After exposure, the fishes' liver tissues were excised, and an alkaline comet assay was performed. Two slides per sample and 50 cells per slide were assessed with a visual evaluation program. The average DNA Damage values of the control, 0.82 mg/L TH, and 1.64 mg/L TH groups were 4.37 ± 5.12, 8.51 ± 8.54, and 9.30 ± 9.99, respectively. Both TH treatment groups had statistically significantly more DNA damage than the control group (p < 0.001). When comparing the TH treatment groups alone, the 1.64 mg/L dose group featured greater damage than the 0.82 mg/L dose group (p < 0.05). TH therefore causes significant DNA damage to the liver in a dose-dependent manner, revealing it to be a genotoxic agent that should be further investigated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Evaluation of sonication energy effect on in-situ synthesis of deep eutectic solvent-based liquid phase microextraction process was performed in fresh fruit samples for extraction of five neonicotinoids insecticide including clothianidin, imidacloprid, nitenpyram, acetamiprid, and thiacloprid. A suitable amount of choline chloride was dissolved in sample solution and it was poured into a glass narrow-bore tube. Then, a sodium chloride tablet was taken and a few microlitres of hexanoic acid were penetrated into the tablet and it was released into the tube. The narrow–bore tube was located into an ultrasonic bath at controlled frequency and power. The sodium chloride tablet started to dissolve and hexanoic acid was released into the solution and hydrogen bonding was correlated between the ChCl and hexanoic acid. The formed deep eutectic solvent went up through the sample solution and analytes were extracted into the ChCl: hexanoic acid DES. Validation parameters were calculated and low limits of detection (0.04–0.31 ng mL–1) and quantification (0.13–1.03 ng mL–1), high enrichment factors (1280–1780) and extraction recoveries (64–89%), and acceptable precision (RSD ≤7.2%) were obtained. The use of pesticides impairs biological control in the agroecosystems and thus compromises the effectiveness of natural enemies against populations of pest species. The concerns over pesticides should expand beyond mortality and encompass their sublethal effects and their consequences to the target insect species and natural enemies to aid in our understanding of the potential and consequential use of these compounds. The present study aimed to determine the effects of an insecticide mixture on life-history and demographic parameters of the cotton aphid Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae) and two of its main parasitoids – Aphidius flaviventris Kurdjumov (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) and Aphidius colemani Viereck (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). Based on the obtained results, thiacloprid + deltamethrin in its lethal concentration dose 20% of the pest population (LC20) significantly affected the cotton aphid for two generations, increasing developmental time and demographic parameters. The LC20 manifested changes in many demographic parameters of the parasitoid A. flaviventris. This concentration also increased preadult and female longevity, total pre-ovipositional period, and mean generation time (T) of A. colemani , but no other demographic parameters were affected. Nonetheless, the insecticide mixture did not affect the parasitism rate of A. colemani. Thus, the thiacloprid + deltamethrin mixture significantly impaired the cotton aphid population and its parasitoid A. flaviventris. Therefore, the use of thiacloprid + deltamethrin is not encouraged for controlling the parasitoid A. flaviventris , but it is a relatively safe compound for A. colemani. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Neonicotinoids (NEOs) are a class of insecticides that have high insecticidal activity and are extensively used worldwide. However, increasing evidence suggests their long-term residues in the environment and toxic effects on nontarget organisms. NEO residues are frequently detected in water and consequently have created increasing levels of pollution and pose significant risks to humans. Many studies have focused on NEO concentrations in water; however, few studies have focused on global systematic reviews or meta-analyses of NEO concentrations in water. The purpose of this review is to conduct a meta-analysis on the concentration of NEOs in global waters based on published detections from several countries to extend knowledge on the application of NEOs. In the present study, 43 published papers from 10 countries were indexed for a meta-analysis of the global NEO distribution in water. Most of these studies focus on the intensive agricultural area, such as eastern Asia and North America. The order of mean concentrations is identified as imidacloprid (119.542 ± 15.656 ng L−1) > nitenpyram (88.076 ± 27.144 ng L−1) > thiamethoxam (59.752 ± 9.068 ng L−1) > dinotefuran (31.086 ± 9.275 ng L−1) > imidaclothiz (24.542 ± 2.906 ng L−1) > acetamiprid (23.360 ± 4.015 ng L−1) > thiacloprid (11.493 ± 5.095 ng L−1). Moreover, the relationships between NEO concentrations and some environmental factors are analyzed. NEO concentrations increase with temperature, oxidation–reduction potential, and the percentage of cultivated crops but decrease with stream discharge, pH, dissolved oxygen, and precipitation. Pesticides are widely used to maintain tea yields. For achieving satisfactory effects on pests, multiple pesticides in a low application dose have been the trend at present. In this study, we investigated the dissipation and dietary risk assessment of thiacloprid and tolfenpyrad. A method for the determination of thiacloprid and tolfenpyrad was developed. The recoveries ranged from 73% to 105% with standard deviations between 0.7% and 8.3%. Limits of quantification were 0.01 mg/kg for both pesticides. Field trials were conducted in China in 2021. The half-lives were in ranges of 3.22 to 8.45 days for thiacloprid and 2.91 to 10.50 days for tolfenpyrad. The terminal residues were in the range of 0.04–2.55 mg/kg for thiacloprid and <0.01–4.00 mg/kg for tolfenpyrad, respectively. Finally, a dietary risk assessment was conducted representing the acceptable risk of the two pesticides, which of ratios were all less than 100%. The safe pre-harvest interval of 14 days was suggested. This study can serve as a guide for the rational application of thiacloprid and tolfenpyrad in tea, which also ensures the safety of human health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Insecticide applications against the cabbage seedpod weevil, Ceutorhynchus obstrictus Marsham (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), in oilseed rape are conducted during the flowering of the crop. During the flowering period, many parasitoids of pest species are abundant in the crop, and therefore, the preservation of natural pest regulation mechanism is especially important. Parasitism often has a substantial mortality factor in pest populations and as far as possible, parasitoids need to be protected from harmful non-target effects of insecticides. In the present study, the effects of three different insecticidal products on the parasitism of cabbage seedpod weevil larvae were investigated. Additionally, the effects of a spatial targeting of insecticides, using conventional and dropleg application technique, were compared. This was done in field trials within a completely randomized block design and four replications at one trial site in 2019 and two sites in 2020. The parasitoid species Trichomalus perfectus Walker and Mesopolobus morys Walker (both Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) were abundant in almost equal shares in 2019, whereas M. morys was the most important species in 2020. Only in 2019 were harmful effects of the insecticide Biscaya (a.i. thiacloprid) on parasitism rates of C. obstrictus larvae observed. Clear benefits, due to spatial targeting of insecticides using the dropleg technique on parasitoids, were not found. The harmfulness of insecticides is probably affected by properties of different insecticidal products and the temporal coincidence of parasitoid occurrence and insecticide application. Thiacloprid (THI) is a nicotinic receptor agonist widely used as pesticide in Algeria, however it is susceptible to accumulate in various fruits and vegetables and pouring downstream into food plates and contributes to the development of neurodegenerative diseases. Conversely, several natural compounds are provided with cytoprotective potential and, therefore, are able to act against the harmful effects of toxicants such as pesticides. This study focused on striatum (str) and hippocampus (hipp) mitochondrial toxicity assessment, evaluation of behavioral function and intrinsic apoptosis pathway in rats exposed to THI at low-dose (0.020 mg/kg) for 3 months. In addition, this study examined neuroprotective potential of bitter apricot kernel extract when administered concomitantly with THI at the dose of 50 mg/kg. In current study, assessment of mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) and swelling, evaluation of mitochondrial redox status, cholinergic function (Ach E) and apoptosis markers (Caspase 9 and 3, Bax and Bcl2, Cytochrome c and cytosolic calcium) were performed in both brain areas, besides behavioral and histopathological examination. The results showed an increase of lipid peroxidation in both of str and hipp with a values of 1,14 ± 0,04 nmol/mg of proteins (pr) and 1,58 ± 0,09 nmol/mg pr. respectively and a significant decrease in GSH (0,09 ± 0,01 mmol/mg pr. in hipp and 0,08±0,01 mmol/mg pr. in str), the results also showed a change in the activity of antioxidants enzymes SOD (16,37±1,09 UI/mg pr. in hipp14,54±1,46 UI/mg pr. in str), CAT (0,010±0,01 UI/mg pr. in hipp and 0,005±0,004 UI/mg pr. in str), GPx (0,01± 0,001 nmol/mg pr. in both hipp and str) and GST (23,73±1,68 UI/mg pr. in hipp and 17,56± 1,04 UI/mg pr. in str), as well as an abrupt increase in mPTP opening with a value of (0,057±0,005 in str and 0,054±0,005 in hipp), which leaded to mitochondrial swelling where the level o mitochondrial swelling was (0,016±0,002 in str and 0,106±0,003 in hipp), the swelling was associated also with a high releasing of Cyt-c with a values of (4,48 ± 1,26 µg/ml in str and 5,32 ± 1,08 µg/ml in hipp ) and Ca++( 2,26±0,06 mmol/l in str and 2,32±0,07 mmol/l in hipp) into the cytosol, the results also showed a significant decreasing of Bcl2 (16,4 ± 1,86 ng/mg pr in str and 14,8± 0,82 ng/mg pr in hipp), in the other hand the rates of caspase-9 were (278±14 mAbs/mg pr.) in str and 212 ±24 mAbs/mg pr. in hipp), caspase3 (184± 16mAbs/mg pr.) in str and 250 ±14mAbs/mg pr. in hipp), and BAX (0,926 ng/mg pr in str and 1,189 ng/mg pr in hipp) were increased. The results of this study revealed also a decrease of memorization processes and learning abilities, at the same time a decrease in Ach E activity (14,02± 0,78 nmol/min/mg pr. in str and 22,35± 1,77 nmol/min/mg pr. in hipp) was recorded. Inversely, bitter apricot kernels extract showed higher cytoprotective potential against THI neurotoxicity, since mitochondrial redox homeostasis and membrane integrity were recovered, cognitive impairment and brain tissue damage were also prevented. In conclusion, THI induced mitochondrial disorders, triggered apoptosis signaling pathway and impaired cognitive functions which were prevented by bitter apricot kernels extract when associated with this pesticide. Field experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of some insecticides against blue butterfly Lampides boeticus (L.), on yard long bean Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp. (cv. Githika) in the Department of Agricultural Entomology, College of Agriculture (KAU), Vellayani during kharif, 2017. The results showed that chlorantraniliprole 18.5SC @ 30 g a.i.ha-1 followed by flubendiamide 39.35SC @ 48 g a.i.ha-1 and thiacloprid 21.7SC @ 120 g a.i.ha-1 recorded least flower damage when compared to control whereas, indoxacarb 14.5SC @ 75 g a.i.ha-1 recorded lowest pod infestation which was followed by flubendiamide 39.35SC @ 48 g a.i.ha-1 and thiacloprid 21.7SC @ 120 g a.i.ha-1. This field experiment on the evaluation of insecticides against cotton leafhopper Amrasca biguttula biguttula (Ishida) in Gossypium hirsutum L. was conducted at Hisar (Haryana) during kharif 2019. Based on mean of both sprays, the least counts of nymphs and adults was observed with flonicamid 50%WG @ 150 g ha-1 (0.84 nymphs and 1.73 adults/ 3 leaves) followed by dinotefuran 20%SG @ 150 g ha-1 (1.49 nymphs and 2.06 adults/ 3 leaves) and diafenthiuron 50%WP @ 500 g ha-1 (1.65 nymphs and 2.25 adults/ 3 leaves). Imidacloprid 17.8%SL @ 100 ml ha-1, thiacloprid 21.7% SC @ 125 ml ha-1, thiamethoxam 25% WG @ 100 g ha-1 and buprofezin 25% SC @ 1000 ml ha-1 were moderately effective. Insecticide sprays reduced the occurrence of natural enemies (spiders, coccinellids and Chrysoperla) only insignificantly. The maximum seed cotton yield was obtained with flonicamid (21.60 q ha-1) followed by dinotefuran (20.99 q ha-1), diafenthiuron (20.71 q ha-1), imidacloprid (20.41 q ha-1), thiacloprid (20.12 q ha-1), buprofezin (19.87 q ha-1), thiamethoxam (19.83 q ha-1) and monocrotophos (19.37 q ha-1). The incremental cost-benefit ratio was maximum with imidacloprid (1:6.36) followed by thiacloprid (1:5.64), thiamethoxam (1:5.29), monocrotophos (1:4.74), dinotefuran (1:4.38), flonicamid (1:3.99), buprofezin (1:3.86) and diafenthiuron (1:3.19). Rice is the major staple food in Jharkhand in India and is threatened by various biotic and abiotic stresses. Among the insect pests that imperil the rice cultivation in Jharkhand, the yellow stem borer (Scirpophaga incertulas Wlk.) is one of the most notorious ones. The present investigation was conducted in Kharif 2018 to study the bioefficacy of certain chemical insecticidal treatments against yellow stem borers in rice measured in terms of mean values of dead heart (% DH) and white ear (%WE). Ten insecticidal treatments, namely, T1 - Flubendiamide 240 SC + Thiacloprid 240 SC (combination product) @ 200 ml/ha, T2 - Flubendiamide 240 SC + Thiacloprid 240 SC (combination product) @ 250 ml/ha, T3 - Imidacloprid 17.8 SL @150 ml/ha, T4 - Flubendiamide 480 SC @ 50 ml/ha, T5 - Rynaxypyr 20 SC @150 ml/ha, T6 - Fipronil 80 WG @ 65 g/ha, T7 - Dinotefuran 20 SG @ 200 g/ha, T8 - Fipronil 0.3 GR followed by Chlorpyriphos 20 EC @2000 ml/ha, T9 - Chlorpyriphos 20 EC@ 2000 ml/ha and T10 - untreated control were taken for the experiment. The results showed that two of the insecticidal treatments, namely T2- flubendiamide 240 SC + thiacloprid 240 SC @ 250 ml/ha (2.07% DH and 2.30% WE) and T4 - flubendiamide 480 SC @ 50 ml/ha (1.89% DH and 2.49% WE), were at par with each other. They performed better than all the other treatments, suggesting that using these two newer insecticidal treatments could provide all-around protection for the rice crop against rice yellow stem borer in terms of both dead heart and white ear.
