Studying the impact of different farmland transfer modes on farmers' income inequality can help understand the reasons for the income gap between farmers. Based on this, we use field survey data and OLS regression, quantile idea and Shapley decomposition to analyse the impact of farmland transfer on farmers' income inequality. The results show that the influence of farmers' spontaneous mode on the increase in farmers' income is better than that of the market-led mode and government-led mode. The market-led and government-led transfer modes also significantly enhance the positive impact of livelihood capital on farmers' income. The higher the level of natural, material, labour and social capital of farmers, the more favourable the effect on income, while the financial capital is more beneficial to high-income farmers. As for the restraining effect of the transfer modes on the income gap, the farmers' spontaneous mode is the best, the government-led mode is the second, and the market-led mode is the worst. Further research shows that the transfer mode greatly impacts the income inequality of middle-income and low-income farmers. There are significant differences in the effects of livelihood capital on farmers' income inequality in different transfer modes. Therefore, on the premise of following farmers' willingness, the government should play a leading role in further standardizing the farmland transfer market and improving the household income of low-income and middle-income farmers. Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is a welding process in which an electric arc is formed between a wire electrode and a metal workpiece alongside a shielding gas to protect the arc from contaminants. There are several ways in which the molten electrode droplet can be transferred to the weld pool known as metal transfer modes. Identifying the metal transfer mode automatically is essential to monitor and control the welding process, especially in automated processes employed in modern Industry 4.0 manufacturing lines. However, limited research on this topic has been found in literature. This paper explores the automatic classification of metal transfer modes in GMAW based on machine learning techniques with various signals from the welding process, including acoustics, current, voltage and gas flow rate signals. Time and frequency domain features are first extracted from these signals and are used in a support vector machine classifier to detect the metal transfer modes. A feature selection algorithm is proposed to improve the prediction rate from 80 to 99% when all four signals are utilised. When only the non-intrusive acoustic signal is used, the prediction rates with and without the proposed feature selection algorithm are approximately 96% and 81%, respectively. The high prediction rate demonstrates the feasibility and promising accuracy of the acoustic signal–based classification method for future smart welding technology with real-time adaptive feedback control of the welding process. There is an increased requirement in the automotive, food and medical equipment industries to weld heat-sensitive materials, such as thin sheets, coated thin plates, stainless steel, aluminium and mixed joints. Nevertheless, relevant innovations in arc welding are not widely known and seldom used to their maximum potential. In the area of gas metal arc welding welding processes, digitalisation has allowed integration of software into the power source, wire feeder and gas regulation. This paper reviews developments in the arc welding process, particularly the effect of the set-up of the welding process parameters on waveform deposition. It is found that good weldability, good mechanical joint properties and acceptable process efficiency can be obtained for thin sheets through advanced power source regulation, especially over short circuiting, controlled polarity and electrode wire motion. The findings presented in this paper are valuable for waveform and deposition prediction. The need is furthermore noted for an algorithm that integrates gas flow parameters and wire motion control, as well as a variable sensor on the tip of the electrode, permitting flexibility of control of the current and the voltage waveform. Technology transfer can be seen as an effective mechanism to advance the flow of technological development in a developing country’s economy. Though normally small-scale technology transfer projects are initiated and managed by private organizations, the large-scale technology transfer projects in a developing country are sponsored by the state itself, given the complexity level of and resource requirements for such projects. The purpose of this paper is to identify and discuss the critical elements of a successful large-scale technology transfer process framework in a developing country context. Four components are highlighted that facilitate a successful large-scale technology transfer process. These are: (i) understanding and selecting technology components; (ii) selecting a technology transfer mode; (iii) negotiating effective process; and (iv) developing capability. Aspects of negotiation and adoption/assimilation capability development are stressed in this paper, which is commonly missed out in conventional technology transfer framework. Accordingly a comprehensive and goal oriented technology transfer framework has been presented in the paper linking all the core elements. This paper investigates the use of laser light scattering to determine fume concentration generated by gas metal arc welding (GMAW). The effect of transfer mode on the intensity of scattered laser light was measured to compare the results with those generated by fume box measurements. Good correlation was found between previously measured fume formation rates and scattered light intensity across a range of transfer modes for two wire feed rates.
