The vast majority of control schemes related to the sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) are designed for the purpose of monitoring only the process mean. Nonetheless, most manufacturing processes are vulnerable to external factors that cause the process mean and variability to change simultaneously. It is, therefore, crucial to consider a joint scheme for monitoring both the location and scale parameters of a production process. In this article, we develop a scheme that combines both mean and variance information in a single SPRT, known as the omnibus SPRT (OSPRT) chart. Expressions for the run-length properties of the OSPRT chart are derived by means of the Markov chain approach. We also propose optimal designs for the OSPRT chart based on two different metrics, i.e. by minimising the average time to signal and the average extra quadratic loss. Through a comprehensive analysis, this article reveals that the optimal OSPRT chart outperforms the classical $ \bar{X} $ X ¯ -S, weighted-loss cumulative sum, absolute-value SPRT, and two maximum weighted-moving-average-type charts. The optimal OSPRT chart also has the advantage of collecting a small number of samples on average before producing a decision. Proteinuria is a common adverse event arising from treatment with bevacizumab, requiring diagnostic testing via 24-h urine collection. However, this method is cumbersome. We assessed urine screenings in gynecologic cancer patients from February 2021 to May 2022. Along with a simple urine dipstick (UD), the urine microalbumin, total protein, and creatinine were measured and calculated as the urine albumin to creatinine ratio (UACR) and the urine protein to creatinine ratio (UPCR), which were further adjusted through the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease and Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration equations to be estimated and correlated with 24-h urine total protein content. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was used for cost analysis. There were 129 urine samples from 36 patients. The sensitivity and specificity for the UACR were 0.56 and 0.97, and for the UPCR, 0.71 and 0.88, respectively. The 24-h TP correlated strongly with the UACR (r = 0.75; p < 0.001) and UPCR (r = 0.79; p < 0.001) and fair for the simple UD (r = 0.35; p < 0.001). The UPCR saves one unnecessary 24-h urine test for less than a dollar compared to a simple UD. Specialty drugs treat complex, severe diseases and offer significant therapeutic advances. Despite their potential to transform patient care, little is known about the drivers of their diffusion. In this study, the authors develop a framework for the diffusion of specialty drugs that is motivated by the drugs' novelty, complexity, and importance, with a focus on the role of scientific evidence production. They propose that the effects of scientific evidence on specialty drug diffusion are multifaceted and generated through the three stages of the scientific evidence production process: unpublished clinical studies, publications in medical journals not cited in clinical guidelines, and clinical guidelines. The findings from the empirical analysis of two specialty drugs validate the framework, supporting the idea of multistage scientific evidence effects. In contrast, marketing activities do not have a significant effect. Although this could be attributed to specialty drug prescribers discounting information from commercial sources, it may also be due to limited marketing support. An additional analysis on a nonspecialty drug further validates the proposed framework. Calculations of scientific evidence contributions to trial prescriptions indicate that scientific evidence production can generate returns beyond the publication stage, which should provide specialty drug manufacturers with strong incentives to commit to quality and innovation. Background: Cognitive frailty (CF) is characterized by the coexistence of physical frailty and cognitive impairment, and it is associated with adverse health outcomes. Older adults are particularly vulnerable to CF due to factors such as age-related brain changes and the presence of comorbidities. Objective: To investigate the effect of preoperative CF on postoperative complications in older patients. Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted among 253 patients aged 60–85 years, who underwent elective orthopedic and abdominal surgery (with a postoperative hospital stay of ≥ 3 days) at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from May 2023 to November 2023. CF was assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) for the cognitive status and the Fried criteria for five frailty scales. Participants were split into four groups: Group A (neither frailty nor cognitive impairment), Group B (frailty without cognitive impairment), Group C (cognitive impairment without frailty), and Group D (cognitive frailty). The primary outcome was postoperative complications, while secondary outcomes included mobility disability, prolonged hospital stay (PLOS), re-operation and 90-day readmission. Results: The median age (interquartile range) of participants was 69 (65–73) years, of which 40.3% were male. The prevalence of CF was 17.8%. The incidence of postoperative complications was 18.2% in Group A, 50.0% in Group B, 37.4% in Group C, and 75.6% in Group D. Multivariate analysis revealed that, compared to the control group (without cognitive impairment or frailty), patients with CF had a significantly higher risk of postoperative complications (OR, 12.86; 95%CI, 4.23–39.08). "Patients with frailty without cognitive impairment" had an increased risk (OR, 6.53; 95%CI, 2.04–20.9), while "those with cognitive impairment without frailty" also showed a higher risk (OR, 3.46; 95%CI, 1.57–7.64). Conclusions: Cognitive frailty is significantly associated with an increased risk of postoperative adverse outcomes in older patients undergoing orthopedic and abdominal surgeries with general anesthesia. The purpose of this study and meta-analysis was to evaluate the perioperative and oncologic results of robotic NOSE versus laparoscopic surgery for colorectal tumors. We plan to perform an extensive electronic search on PubMed, CNKI, Embase, and the Cochrane Library to find research articles published from the beginning of the databases until July 2024 that examine the comparison between robotic natural orifice specimen extraction and laparoscopic surgery in patients with colorectal cancer. Both English and Chinese literature will be included. Literature screening will strictly follow predetermined criteria for inclusion and exclusion, specifically targeting randomized controlled trials and cohort studies. The evaluation of quality will be conducted with the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS). Review Manager 5.4.1 will be utilized to perform a meta-analysis of data gathered from the studies that are included. The ultimate evaluation included seven past cohort studies with a total of 1117 participants (545 who had robotic NOSE and 572 who had laparoscopic surgery). Patients who had robotic NOSE experienced notable enhancements in LOHS, time to first flatus, time to start the liquid diet, EBL, and postoperative ileus when compared to patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery. There were no notable discrepancies noted in terms of surgical duration, total complications, lymph node collection, and anastomotic leakage between the two methods. In conclusion, the use of robotic technology for extracting specimens through natural body openings in colorectal surgery is considered to be safe and achievable. It offers notable advantages over laparoscopic surgery, including reduced hospital stay, earlier time to first flatus and liquid intake, decreased EBL, and lower incidence of postoperative ileus. Neuropathic pain is a debilitating chronic condition that lacks effective treatment. The role of cytokine- and chemokine-mediated neuroinflammation in its pathogenesis has been well documented. Follistatin (FST) is a secreted protein known to antagonize the biological activity of cytokines in the transforming growth factor–β (TGF-β) superfamily. The involvement of FST in neuropathic pain and the underlying mechanism remain largely unknown. Here, we report that FST was up-regulated in A-fiber sensory neurons after spinal nerve ligation (SNL) in mice. Inhibition or deletion of FST alleviated neuropathic pain and reduced the nociceptive neuron hyperexcitability induced by SNL. Conversely, intrathecal or intraplantar injection of recombinant FST, or overexpression of FST in the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons, induced pain hypersensitivity. Furthermore, exogenous FST increased neuronal excitability in nociceptive neurons. The biolayer interferometry (BLI) assay and coimmunoprecipitation (co-IP) demonstrated direct binding of FST to the insulin-like growth factor–1 receptor (IGF1R), and IGF1R inhibition reduced FST-induced activation of extracellular signal–regulated kinase (ERK) and protein kinase B (AKT), as well as neuronal hyperexcitability. Further co-IP analysis revealed that the N-terminal domain of FST exhibits the highest affinity for IGF1R, and blocking this interaction with a peptide derived from FST attenuated Nav1.7-mediated neuronal hyperexcitability and neuropathic pain after SNL. In addition, FST enhanced neuronal excitability in human DRG neurons through IGF1R. Collectively, our findings suggest that FST, released from A-fiber neurons, enhances Nav1.7-mediated hyperexcitability of nociceptive neurons by binding to IGF1R, making it a potential target for neuropathic pain treatment. In China, high copper (Cu) and low organic matter often occur in some citrus orchard soils. However, the underlying mechanisms by which humic acid (HA) stimulates growth and mitigates Cu toxicity of citrus seedlings are unclear. After being treated with 0, 0.1, or 0.5 mM sodium humate and 0.5 or 400 μM CuCl2 (Cu excess) for 24 weeks, sweet orange [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck cv. Xuegan] seedlings were used to examine the impacts of HA-Cu interactions on seedling growth, nutrient uptake, leaf pigments, and photosynthetic performance that was revealed by chlorophyll a fluorescence transient. Copper excess reduced root, stem, and leaf dry weight (DW) by 42.4%, 65.4%, and 61.6%, respectively at 0 mM HA, and by 17.3%, 25.4%, and 31.4%, respectively at 0.5 mM HA; and that the levels of Cu in leaves, stems, and roots declined with elevating HA supply. Copper excess caused some rotten and dead fibrous roots at 0 mM HA, but not at 0.5 mM HA. Adding HA lowered Cu uptake per root DW (UPR), the levels of Cu in leaves, stems, and roots, and the competition of Cu2+ with Mg2+ and Fe2+, and therefore mitigated root impairment caused by Cu excess. The HA-mediated alleviation of root damage caused by Cu excess increased the uptake per plant and UPR of nitrogen, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium, sulfur, boron, and manganese, and therefore alleviated Cu excess-induced decline in seedling growth, impairment to leaf photosynthetic electron transport chains, and decrease in leaf pigments. For 0.5 μM Cu-treated seedlings, adding HA promoted seedling growth by improving root nutrient uptake and leaf photosynthetic performance. Rapid and sensitive detection of pathogens in various samples is crucial for disease diagnosis, environmental surveillance, as well as food and water safety monitoring. However, the low abundance of pathogens (<10 CFU) in large volume (1 mL−1 L) samples containing vast backgrounds critically limits the sensitivity of even the most advanced techniques, such as digital PCR. Therefore, there is a critical need for sample preparation that can enrich low-abundance pathogens from complex and large-volume samples. This study develops an efficient electrostatic microfiltration (EM)-based sample preparation technique capable of processing ultra-large-volume (≥500 mL) samples at high throughput (≥10 mL min−1). This approach achieves a significant enrichment (>8000×) of extremely-low-abundance pathogens (down to level of 0.02 CFU mL−1, i.e., 10 CFU in 500 mL). Furthermore, EM-enabled sample preparation facilitates digital amplification techniques sensitively detecting broad pathogens, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses from various samples, in a rapid (≤3 h) sample-to-result workflow. Notably, the operational ease, portability, and compatibility/integrability with various downstream detection platforms highlight its great potential for widespread applications across diverse settings. Background: Good gastric preparation is indispensable for Magnetic-controlled Capsule Endoscopy (MCE) examination, but there is no consensus yet. We aim to explore the clinical application value of positioning exercises in improving the quality of MCE examination. Methods: Clinical data of 326 patients who underwent MCE examination from January 2020 to December 2023 were collected. The included patients were divided into two groups: the conventional medication preparation group (CMP group, accepted mucosal cleansing medication only) and the positioning exercises group (PE group, accepted mucosal cleansing medication plus positioning exercises). A comparison was made between the two groups in terms of gastric cavity cleanliness score, visibility score, and detection rate of positive lesions. Results: The examination time was (21.29 ± 5.82) minutes in the PE group and (30.54 ± 6.37) minutes in the CMP group, showing a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.001). The total cleanliness score and visibility score in the CMP group were 15.89 ± 2.82 and 10.93 ± 2.12, respectively. In contrast, the total cleanliness score and visibility score in the PE group were 19.52 ± 2.26 and 15.09 ± 2.31, respectively. The PE group showed significantly better cleanliness scores and visibility scores in all six anatomical regions compared to the CMP group (All P < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in the detection rate of positive lesions between the two groups (All P > 0.05). Electrical manipulation of the antiferromagnetic states of Weyl semimetal Mn3Sn by current-induced spin–orbit torque (SOT) has attracted intensive attention recently, largely due to its potential advantage for high-density integration and ultrafast operation. In this study, the relation between the antiferromagnetic SOT switching ratio and the composition of Mn3+xSn1−x films was explored systematically. While SOT manipulation of ferromagnetic order has traditionally been confined to films just a few nanometers in thickness, our results indicate that current-induced SOT can effectively switch the antiferromagnetic order of sputtered Mn3+xSn1−x films with a thickness of up to 100 nm. Notably, a high electrical switching ratio of 83% was obtained in the optimized film with a composition of Mn3.1Sn0.9. The switching of the octupole polarization in thick Mn3Sn films may be accounted for by a seeded SOT mechanism. Joule heating of the Mn3Sn film close to the Néel temperature plays a key role in this switching process. Additionally, the factors influencing the switching ratio were further investigated. This work will deepen our understanding of the electrical switching mechanism of non-collinear antiferromagnetic order in Mn3Sn film and promote the development of antiferromagnetic spintronic devices. Background: The high complexity of systemic autoimmune diseases (SADs) has hindered precise management. This study aims to investigate heterogeneity in SADs. Methods: We applied a joint cluster analysis, which jointed multiple correspondence analysis and k-means, to immunomarkers and measured the heterogeneity of clusters by examining differences in immunomarkers and clinical manifestations. The electronic health records of patients who received an antinuclear antibody test and were diagnosed with SADs, namely systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and Sjögren's syndrome (SS), were retrieved between 2001 and 2016 from hospitals in Taiwan. Results: With distinctive patterns of immunomarkers, a total of 11,923 patients with the three SADs were grouped into six clusters. None of the clusters was composed only of a single SAD, and these clusters demonstrated considerable differences in clinical manifestation. Both patients with SLE and SS had a more dispersed distribution in the six clusters. Among patients with SLE, the occurrence of renal compromise was higher in Clusters 3 and 6 (52% and 51%) than in the other clusters (p < 0.001). Cluster 3 also had a high proportion of patients with discoid lupus (60%) than did Cluster 6 (39%; p < 0.001). Patients with SS in Cluster 3 were the most distinctive because of the high occurrence of immunity disorders (63%) and other and unspecified benign neoplasm (58%) with statistical significance compared with the other clusters (all p < 0.05). Conclusions: The immunomarker-driven clustering method could recognise more clinically relevant subgroups of the SADs and would provide a more precise diagnosis basis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The advancement of exceptionally effective catalysts that are photostable is significantly important for the sustainable conversion of solar energy into hydrogen. Combining the strengths of NaNbO3 and CdSe in a fabricated heterojunction has been pursued in photocatalysis to enhance the performance while addressing CdSe′s stability. In this study, nanoparticle‐CdSe was deposited on NaNbO3 nanorods via hydrothermal method, and the optimal composite ratio of CdSe/NaNbO3 heterojunction achieved a photocatalytic hydrogen production of 2510 μmol g−1h−1. The enhancement is ascribed to the formation of a Z‐scheme heterojunction by the interface contact between CdSe and NaNbO3.The migration of electrons from NaNbO3 to CdSe was revealed by charge density difference results in DFT calculation. Work function of samples demonstrated the equilibrium of Fermi level and a corresponding shift of the band structure in the heterojunction. The H adsorption free energy (ΔGH*) for the heterojunction was 0.26 eV, suggesting a reduced energy barrier for hydrogen generation. Notably, the stable structure of NaNbO3 endows the composites with excellent chemical stability, maintaining more than 80 % activity after six hydrogen production cyclic tests. Ferroptosis is a novel form of programmed cell death caused by damage to lipid membranes due to the accumulation of lipid peroxides in response to various stimuli, such as high levels of iron, oxidative stress, metabolic disturbance, etc. Sugar, lipid, amino acid, and iron metabolism are crucial in regulating ferroptosis. The solute carrier transporters (SLCs) family, known as the "metabolic gating" of cells, is responsible for transporting intracellular nutrients and metabolites. Recent studies have highlighted the significant role of SLCs family members in ferroptosis by controlling the transport of various nutrients. Here, we summarized the function and mechanism of SLCs in ferroptosis regulated by ion, metabolic control of nutrients, and multiple signaling pathways, with a focus on SLC–related transporters that primarily transport five significant components: glucose, amino acid, lipid, trace metal ion, and other ion. Furthermore, the potential clinical applications of targeting SLCs with ferroptosis inducers for various diseases, including tumors, are discussed. Overall, this paper delves into the novel roles of the SLCs family in ferroptosis, aiming to enhance our understanding of the regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis and identify new therapeutic targets for clinical applications. Along with the popularity of Olympic Games, evaluating and ranking participating nations has become one of the hottest issues in recent years. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is extensively used for participating nations' performance evaluation, while the prior literature mainly addresses the maximum efficiency by ignoring the weights diversity, which might lead to unreasonable and biased results. By considering the fixed-sum medals constraint, this paper proposes an integrated approach of stochastic multicriteria acceptability analysis (SMAA) and DEA for evaluating the participating nations. The proposed approach addresses the weights diversity and multiple equilibrium efficient frontiers by investigating the overall feasible space, and two strategies are considered to guarantee the fairness concern for calculating the efficiencies. Besides, the proposed approach provides both rank acceptability and holistic acceptability index to obtain the complete ranking from the best to the worst and to get the relative ranking relationship in the overall feasible space. The proposed approach can provide more reasonable performance measurements since it explores different rank positions and improves the whole satisfaction of all participating nations. Finally, the proposed approach is applied to empirically analyze the participating nations in the Winter Olympic Games from 2010 to 2022 and some valuable analytical results are provided. Recognition and extraction of elements from house plans present significant challenges in the construction, decoration and interior design industries. To address this issue, this paper proposes a wall segmentation system for house plans that integrates deep learning and traditional methods. The system comprises several components, such as image preprocessing, main region extraction, wall segmentation and optimisation of wall smoothing. The study combined the rapidity of the traditional method with the robustness of deep learning to enable the extraction of walls from varied image styles and perform smoothing optimisation. The paper demonstrates that the proposed segmentation technique delivers an 89% mean intersection over union, a 94% detection rate and a 96% recognition accuracy. The research surpasses current findings in the same field. Additionally, when combined with the current house map dataset, the system presents a semantic categorisation dataset featuring 6000 images depicting a range of styles, in addition to a recognition dataset including 4000 images. Complementary-label learning (CLL) aims at finding a classifier via samples with complementary labels. Such data is considered to contain less information than ordinary-label samples. The transition matrix between the true label and the complementary label, and some loss functions have been developed to handle this problem. In this paper, we show that CLL can be transformed into ordinary classification under some mild conditions, which indicates that the complementary labels can supply enough information in most cases. As an example, an extensive misclassification error analysis was performed for the Kernel Ridge Regression (KRR) method applied to multiple complementary-label learning (MCLL), which demonstrates its superior performance compared to existing approaches. Qingshankou shale (Gulong area, China) exhibits strong acoustic anisotropy characteristics, posing significant challenges to its exploration and development. In this study, the five full elastic constants and multipole response law of the Qingshankou shale were studied using experimental measurements. Analyses show that the anisotropy parameters ϵ and γ in the study region are greater than 0.4, whereas the anisotropy parameter δ is smaller, generally 0.1. Numerical simulations show that the longitudinal and transverse wave velocities of these strong anisotropic rocks vary significantly with inclination angle, and significant differences in group velocity and phase velocity are also present. Acoustic logging measures the group velocity in dipped boreholes; this differs from the phase velocity to some extent. As the dip angle increases, the longitudinal and SH wave velocities increase accordingly, while the qSV-wave velocity initially increases and then decreases, reaching its maximum value at a dip of approximately 40°. Both copper (Cu) excess and boron (B) deficiency are often observed in some citrus orchard soils. The molecular mechanisms by which B alleviates excessive Cu in citrus are poorly understood. Seedlings of sweet orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck cv. Xuegan) were treated with 0.5 (Cu0.5) or 350 (Cu350 or Cu excess) μM CuCl2 and 2.5 (B2.5) or 25 (B25) μM HBO3 for 24 wk. Thereafter, this study examined the effects of Cu and B treatments on gene expression levels revealed by RNA-Seq, metabolite profiles revealed by a widely targeted metabolome, and related physiological parameters in leaves. Cu350 upregulated 564 genes and 170 metabolites, and downregulated 598 genes and 58 metabolites in leaves of 2.5 μM B-treated seedlings (LB2.5), but it only upregulated 281 genes and 100 metabolites, and downregulated 136 genes and 40 metabolites in leaves of 25 μM B-treated seedlings (LB25). Cu350 decreased the concentrations of sucrose and total soluble sugars and increased the concentrations of starch, glucose, fructose and total nonstructural carbohydrates in LB2.5, but it only increased the glucose concentration in LB25. Further analysis demonstrated that B addition reduced the oxidative damage and alterations in primary and secondary metabolisms caused by Cu350, and alleviated the impairment of Cu350 to photosynthesis and cell wall metabolism, thus improving leaf growth. LB2.5 exhibited some adaptive responses to Cu350 to meet the increasing need for the dissipation of excessive excitation energy (EEE) and the detoxification of reactive oxygen species (reactive aldehydes) and Cu. Cu350 increased photorespiration, xanthophyll cycle-dependent thermal dissipation, nonstructural carbohydrate accumulation, and secondary metabolite biosynthesis and abundances; and upregulated tryptophan metabolism and related metabolite abundances, some antioxidant-related gene expression, and some antioxidant abundances. Lilium brownii/Baihe is one of the classic nutraceuticals. The chemical composition of Lilium is complex and has a variety of pharmacological effects. Moreover, the compound preparation based on Lilium has been used in the treatment of respiratory diseases in traditional Chinese medicine. In addition, Lanzhou lily has become food on the dinner table. Therefore, Lilium brownii/Baihe is a nutraceutical with a long history. Based on the current understanding of Lilium, this review provides an in-depth discussion of the bioactive components and pharmacological effects of Lilium. This paper focuses on data from a study of middle- to upper-middle class Scottish S2 (~seventh grade) students who participated in Inspiring Purpose, a school-based character development program, during the 2016 to 2017 school year. Directed by their teachers, participating youth reflected on values and future aspirations and researched and wrote about an inspiring person. We examine the hypotheses that youth who select a more proximal inspiring figure and/or make a personal connection with that person will demonstrate higher developmental outcomes in the areas of confidence, contribution, self-reflection, goal development, and self-concept. We connected 230 student posters of inspirational figures, 34 youth interviews, and 462 student surveys. Mixed-method analysis revealed students were more likely to describe proximal figures as inspiring and make explicit personal connections over the course of their engagement with the Inspiring Purpose program. Moreover, youth who made personal connections were more likely to score higher on confidence, general self-concept, and contribution. These results suggest that when youth see themselves in inspiring figures and firmly articulate this connection, this can spur beneficial developmental outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Negative oxygen ions are produced by plants through photosynthesis, utilizing "tip discharge" or the photoelectric effect, which has various functions such as sterilization, dust removal, and delaying aging. With global warming, high temperatures may affect the ability of Phalaenopsis aphrodite Rchb. f. to produce negative oxygen ions. P. aphrodite is commonly used in modern landscape planning and forest greening. Methods: In this study, P. aphrodite was selected as the research object. By artificially simulating the climate, the control group (CK) and the high temperature stress group (HS) were set up in the experiment. Results: The study found that compared with the control group, the ability of P. aphrodite to produce negative oxygen ions significantly decreased when exposed to high temperature stress. Meanwhile, under high temperature stress treatment, peroxidase content increased by 102%, and proline content significantly increased by 35%. Discussion: Redundancy analysis results indicated a significant correlation between the root endophytic microbial community of P. aphrodite and negative oxygen ions, as well as physiological indicators. Under high temperature stress, P. aphrodite may affect the regulation of physiological indicators by modifying the composition of root endophytic microbial communities, thereby influencing the ability to release negative oxygen ions. Addressing the challenges in effectively extracting multi-scale features and preserving pose information during hyperspectral image (HSI) classification, a Multi-Scale Depthwise Separable Capsule Network (MDSC-Net) is proposed in this article for HSI classification. Initially, hierarchical features are extracted by MDSC-Net through the employment of parallel multi-scale convolutional kernels, while computational complexity is reduced via depthwise separable convolutions, thus reducing the overall computational load and achieving efficient feature extraction. Subsequently, to enhance the translational invariance of features and reduce the loss of pose information, features of various scales are processed in parallel by independent capsule networks, with improvements in max pooling achieved through dynamic routing. Lastly, features of different scales are concatenated and integrated through the concatenate operation, thereby facilitating precise analysis of multi-level information in the hyperspectral image classification process. Experimental comparisons demonstrate that MDSC-Net achieves average accuracies of 94%, 98%, and 99% on the Kennedy Space Center, University of Pavia, and Salinas datasets, respectively, indicating a significant performance advantage over recent HSI classification models and validating the effectiveness of the proposed model. In the age of information explosion, the exponential growth of digital data far exceeds the capacity of current mainstream storage media. DNA is emerging as a promising alternative due to its higher storage density, longer retention time, and lower power consumption. To date, commercially mature DNA synthesis and sequencing technologies allow for writing and reading of information on DNA with customization and convenience at the research level. However, under the disconnected and nonspecialized mode, DNA data storage encounters practical challenges, including susceptibility to errors, long storage latency, resource-intensive requirements, and elevated information security risks. Herein, we introduce a platform named DNA-DISK that seamlessly streamlined DNA synthesis, storage, and sequencing on digital microfluidics coupled with a tabletop device for automated end-to-end information storage. The single-nucleotide enzymatic DNA synthesis with biocapping strategy is utilized, offering an ecofriendly and cost-effective approach for data writing. A DNA encapsulation using thermo-responsive agarose is developed for on-chip solidification, not only eliminating data clutter but also preventing DNA degradation. Pyrosequencing is employed for in situ and accurate data reading. As a proof of concept, DNA-DISK successfully stored and retrieved a musical sheet file (228 bits) with lower write-to-read latency (4.4 min of latency per bit) as well as superior automation compared to other platforms, demonstrating its potential to evolve into a DNA Hard Disk Drive in the future. Background: Sarcopenia has been recognized as a determining factor in surgical outcomes and is associated with an increased risk of postoperative complications and readmission. Diagnosis is currently based on clinical guidelines, which includes assessment of skeletal muscle mass but not quality. Ultrasound has been proposed as a useful point-of-care diagnostic tool to assess muscle quality, but no validated cut-offs for sarcopenia have been reported. Using novel automated artificial intelligence (AI) software to interpret ultrasound images may assist in mitigating the operator-dependent nature of the modality. Our study aims to evaluate the fidelity of AI-aided ultrasound as a reliable and reproducible modality to assess muscle quality and diagnose sarcopenia in surgical patients. Methods: Thirty-six adult participants from an outpatient clinic were recruited for this prospective cohort study. Sarcopenia was diagnosed according to Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) 2019 guidelines. Ultrasonography of the rectus femoris muscle was performed, and images were analyzed by an AI software (MuscleSound® (Version 5.69.0)) to derive muscle parameters including intramuscular adipose tissue (IMAT) as a proxy of muscle quality. A receiver operative characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess the predictive capability of IMAT and its derivatives, with area under the curve (AUC) as a measure of overall diagnostic accuracy. To evaluate consistency between ultrasound users of different experience, intra- and inter-rater reliability of muscle ultrasound parameters was analyzed in a separate cohort using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and Bland–Altman plots. Results: The median age was 69.5 years (range: 26–87), and the prevalence of sarcopenia in the cohort was 30.6%. The ROC curve plotted with IMAT index (IMAT% divided by muscle area) yielded an AUC of 0.727 (95% CI: 0.551–0.904). An optimal cut-off point of 4.827%/cm2 for IMAT index was determined with a Youden's Index of 0.498. We also demonstrated that IMAT index has excellent intra-rater reliability (ICC = 0.938, CI: 0.905–0.961) and good inter-rater reliability (ICC = 0.776, CI: 0.627–0.866). In Bland–Altman plots, the limits of agreement were from −1.489 to 1.566 and −2.107 to 4.562, respectively. Discussion: IMAT index obtained via ultrasound has the potential to act as a point-of-care evaluation for sarcopenia screening and diagnosis, with good intra- and inter-rater reliability. The proposed IMAT index cut-off maximizes sensitivity for case finding, supporting its use as an easily implementable point-of-care test in the community for sarcopenia screening. The emulation of tactile sensory nerves to achieve advanced sensory functions in robotics with artificial intelligence is of great interest. However, such devices remain bulky and lack reliable competence to functionalize further synaptic devices with proprioceptive feedback. Here, we report an artificial organic afferent nerve with low operating bias (−0.6 V) achieved by integrating a pressure-activated organic electrochemical synaptic transistor and artificial mechanoreceptors. The dendritic integration function for neurorobotics is achieved to perceive directional movement of object, further reducing the control complexity by exploiting the distributed and parallel networks. An intelligent robot assembled with artificial afferent nerve, coupled with a closed-loop feedback program is demonstrated to rapidly implement slip recognition and prevention actions upon occurrence of object slippage. The spatiotemporal features of tactile patterns are well differentiated with a high recognition accuracy after processing spike-encoded signals with deep learning model. Objective: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused significant transformations in healthcare. Many countries began the rapid development and adoption of telemedicine to avoid the spread of the pandemic and created an innovative model for healthcare delivery. This study identified the critical antecedents that affected the considered healthcare outcomes via teleophthalmology in Eastern Taiwan during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This study's participants included residents of five towns in Taitung County who had experience with teleophthalmology. This study analyzed the structured questionnaires completed by the participants to validate the proposed research framework. Statistical methods were used to verify the research models, including descriptive statistical analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. The date of this study was from 1 October 2020 to 31 July 2023. Results: The results of this study reveal that the average monthly use of teleophthalmology by individuals in rural areas increased annually. Females tended to utilize teleophthalmology services more than males. There were no significant differences across any of the constructs with respect to age or educational level. Additionally, the patients' awareness of healthcare accessibility via and the communication quality of teleophthalmology simultaneously affected teleophthalmology's adoption and service quality, which in turn jointly affected health outcomes. Both healthcare accessibility and communication quality were the antecedents of the healthcare outcomes. The health outcomes refer to the impact of teleophthalmology on the quality of the patients' health and well-being. Additionally, teleophthalmology's adoption and service quality acted as mediators. Conclusions: This study's findings are expected to increase attention to the healthcare outcomes and antecedents of teleophthalmology to promote better telemedicine practices and services for rural residents. The alpine meadows of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau have significant potential for storing soil carbon, which is important to global carbon sequestration. Grazing is a major threat to its potential for carbon sequestration. However, grazing poses a major threat to this potential by speeding up the breakdown of organic matter in the soil and releasing carbon, which may further lead to positive carbon-climate change feedback and threaten ecological security. Therefore, in order to accurately explore the driving mechanism and regulatory factors of soil organic matter decomposition in grazing alpine meadows on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, we took the grazing sample plots of typical alpine meadows as the research object and set up grazing intensities of different life cycles, aiming to explore the relationship and main regulatory factors of grazing on soil organic matter decomposition and soil microorganisms. The results show the following: (1) soil microorganisms, especially Acidobacteria and Acidobacteria, drove the decomposition of organic matter in the soil, thereby accelerating the release of soil carbon, which was not conducive to soil carbon sequestration in grassland; (2) the grazing triggering effect formed a positive feedback with soil microbial carbon release, accelerating the decomposition of organic matter and soil carbon loss; and (3) the grazing ban and light grazing were more conducive to slowing down soil organic matter decomposition and increasing soil carbon sequestration. Background: Liver transplantation (LT) has been proposed as a viable treatment option for selected methylmalonic acidemia (MMA) patients. However, there are still controversies regarding the therapeutic value of LT for MMA. The systematic assessment of health-related quality of life (HRQoL)-targeted MMA children before and after LT is also undetermined. This study aimed to comprehensively assess the long-term impact of LT on MMA, including multiorgan sequelae and HRQoL in children and families. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 15 isolated MMA patients undergoing LT at our institution between June 2013 and March 2022. Pre- and post-transplant data were compared, including metabolic profiles, neurologic consequences, growth parameters, and HRQoL. To further assess the characteristics of the HRQoL outcomes in MMA, we compared the results with those of children with biliary atresia (BA). Results: All patients had early onset MMA, and underwent LT at a mean age of 4.3 years. During 1.3–8.2 years of follow-up, the patient and graft survival rates were 100%. Metabolic stability was achieved in all patients with liberalized dietary protein intake. There was a significant overall improvement in height Z scores (P = 0.0047), and some preexisting neurological complications remained stable or even improved after LT. On the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL™) generic core scales, the mean total, physical health, and psychosocial health scores improved significantly posttransplant (P < 0.05). In the family impact module, higher mean scores were noted for all subscales post-LT, especially family function and daily activities (P < 0.01). However, the total scores on the generic core scales and transplant module were significantly lower (Cohen's d = 0.57–1.17) when compared with BA recipients. In particular, social and school functioning (Cohen's d = 0.86–1.76), treatment anxiety, and communication (Cohen's d = 0.99–1.81) were far behind, with a large effect size. Conclusions: This large single-center study of the mainland of China showed an overall favorable impact of LT on isolated MMA in terms of long-term survival, metabolic control, and HRQoL in children and families. This qualitative study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of community rehabilitation programs for children with developmental delays from the perspective of early intervention service providers in Taiwan. Adopting a single-case experimental design (ABM design), this study examined the immediate and sustained effects of interventions on individualized goals during baseline, intervention, and maintenance phases. Additionally, data from interviews with parents, special education teachers, and other participants were collected to understand the challenges and improvement strategies of community rehabilitation programs. Results revealed that community rehabilitation programs for children with developmental delays exhibited both immediate and sustained effectiveness. Challenges faced by parents and professionals differed, with parents having less contact and communication with administrative systems, while professionals experienced more pronounced implementation difficulties during interventions. Moreover, strategies for improving community rehabilitation programs for children with developmental delays should vary for parents and professionals to address inconsistencies in attitudes and strategies among parents and administrative obstacles encountered by professionals. The long chain branching (LCB) polyglycolide (PGA) was successfully prepared by the successive reactions of the terminal hydroxyl groups of PGA with triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC) and pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA). The influence of LCB produced by functional group reaction on rheological and crystallization behavior was studied and discussed through linear rheology, uniaxial elongation and DSC (differential scanning calorimetry). The much higher viscosity and the more notable strain hardening behavior of modified PGA indicates the LCB with high degree of entanglements are created. Innate immune response is the first line of defense for the host against virus invasion. One important response is the synthesis and secretion of type I interferon (IFN-I) in the virus-infected host cells. Here, we found that respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection induced high expression of TRIM25, which belongs to the tripartite motif-containing (TRIM) family of proteins. TRIM25 bound and activated retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I) by K63-linked ubiquitination. Accordingly, RIG-I mediated the production of IFN-I mainly through the nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) pathway in respiratory epithelial cells. Interestingly, IFN-I, in turn, promoted a high expression of TRIM38 which downregulated the expression of IFN-I by reducing the protein level of RIG-I by K48-linked ubiquitination. More importantly, the binding site of TRIM25 to RIG-I was found in the narrow 25th-43rd amino acid (aa) region of RIG-I N-terminus. In contrast, the binding sites of TRIM38 to RIG-I were found in a much wider amino acid region, which included the binding site of TRIM25 on RIG-I. As a result, TRIM38 inhibits the production of IFN-I by competing with TRIM25 for RIG-I binding. Thus, TRIM38 negatively regulates RIG-I activation to, in turn, downregulate IFN-I expression, thus interfering with host immune response. A negative feedback loop effectively "puts the brakes" on the reaction once host immune response is overactivated and homeostasis is unbalanced. We also discovered that TRIM25 bound RIG-I by a new K63-linked ubiquitination located at K-45 of the first caspase recruitment domain (CARD). Background: In recent years, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has emerged as a pivotal treatment for pure native aortic regurgitation (PNAR). Given patients with severe aortic regurgitation (AR) are prone to suffer from pulmonary hypertension (PH), understanding TAVR’s efficacy in this context is crucial. This study aims to explore the short-term prognosis of TAVR in PNAR patients with concurrent PH. Methods: Patients with PNAR undergoing TAVR at Zhongshan Hospital, Affiliated with Fudan University, were enrolled between June 2018 to June 2023. They were categorized based on pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) into groups with or without PH. The baseline characteristics, imaging records, and follow-up data were collected. Results: Among the 103 patients recruited, 48 were afflicted with PH. In comparison to PNAR patients without PH, the PH group exhibited higher rates of renal dysfunction (10.4% vs. 0.0%, p = 0.014), increased Society of Thoracic Surgeons scores (6.4 ± 1.9 vs. 4.7 ± 1.6, p < 0.001), and elevated Nterminal fragment of pro–brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP). Transthoracic ultrasound examination revealed that patients with PH displayed lower left ventricular ejection fraction, larger left ventricle dimension, and more frequent moderate to severe tcuspid regurgitation (TR). Following TAVR, both groups experienced significant reductions in PASP, mitral regurgitation (MR) and TR. There were no significant differences in the incidence of postoperative adverse events in patients with or without PH. Conclusions: We found TAVR to be a safe and effective treatment for patients with PNAR and PH, reducing the degree of aortic regurgitation and PH without increasing the risk of postoperative adverse events. Introduction: The choice between simultaneous and staged bilateral total knee arthroplasty (BTKA) remains controversial. Age-adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index(CCI) is a promising tool for risk-stratification. We aimed to compare the outcomes between patients who underwent simultaneous and staged BTKA, stratified by age-adjusted CCI scores. Materials and methods: We conducted this retrospective, single-surgeon case series from 2010 to 2020. This study consisted of 1558 simultaneous BTKA and 786 staged BTKA procedures. The outcome domains included 30-day and 90-day readmission and 1-year reoperation events. We performed multivariate regression analysis to compare the risk of readmission and reoperation following simultaneous and staged BTKA. Other factors included age, sex, body mass index, diabetes mellitus, rheumatoid arthritis, smoking, receiving thromboprophylaxis and blood transfusion. Results: The rates of 30-day, 90-day readmission and 1-year reoperation following simultaneous BTKA was 1.99%, 2.70% and 0.71%, respectively. The rates of 30-day, 90-day readmission and 1-year reoperation following staged BTKA was 0.89%, 1.78% and 0.89%, respectively. For patients with age-adjusted CCI ≥ 4 points, simultaneous BTKA was associated with a higher risk of 30-day (aOR:3.369, 95% CI:0.990-11.466) and 90-day readmission (aOR:2.310, 95% CI:0.942–5.668). In patients with age-adjusted CCI ≤ 3 points, the risk of readmission and reoperation was not different between simultaneous or staged BTKA. Conclusion: Simultaneous BTKA was associated with an increased risk of short-term readmissions in patients with age-adjusted CCI ≥ 4 points but not in those with age-adjusted CCI ≤ 3 points. Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a vital non-destructive testing (NDT) technology that can be employed for detecting the backfill grouting of shield tunnels. To achieve intelligent analysis of GPR data and overcome the subjectivity of traditional data processing methods, the CatBoost & BO-TPE model was constructed for regressing the grouting thickness based on GPR waveforms. A full-scale model test and corresponding numerical simulations were carried out to collect GPR data at 400 and 900 MHz, with known backfill grouting thickness. The model test helps address the limitation of not knowing the grout body condition in actual field detection. The data were then used to create machine learning datasets. The method of feature selection was proposed based on the analysis of feature importance and the electromagnetic (EM) propagation law in mediums. The research shows that: (1) the CatBoost & BO-TPE model exhibited outstanding performance in both experimental and numerical data, achieving R2 values of 0.9760, 0.8971, 0.8808, and 0.5437 for numerical data and test data at 400 and 900 MHz. It outperformed extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and random forest (RF) in terms of performance in the backfill grouting thickness regression; (2) compared with the full-waveform GPR data, the feature selection method proposed in this paper can promote the performance of the model. The selected features within the 5-30 ns of the A-scan can yield the best performance for the model; (3) compared to GPR data at 900 MHz, GPR data at 400 MHz exhibited better performance in the CatBoost & BO-TPE model. This indicates that the results of the machine learning model can provide feedback for the selection of GPR parameters; (4) the application results of the trained CatBoost & BO-TPE model in engineering are in line with the patterns observed through traditional processing methods, yet they demonstrate a more quantitative and objective nature compared to the traditional method. Deep sowing is a traditional method for drought resistance in maize production, and mesocotyl elongation is strongly associated with the ability of maize to germinate from deep soil. However, little is known about the functional genes and mechanisms regulating maize mesocotyl elongation. In the present study, we identified a plant‐specific SIMILAR TO RCD‐ONE (SRO) protein family member, ZmSRO1e, involved in maize mesocotyl elongation. The expression of ZmSRO1e is strongly inhibited upon transfer from dark to white light. The loss‐of‐function zmsro1e mutant exhibited a dramatically shorter mesocotyl than the wild‐type in both constant light and darkness, while overexpression of ZmSRO1e significantly promoted mesocotyl elongation, indicating that ZmSRO1e positively regulates mesocotyl elongation. We showed that ZmSRO1e physically interacted with ZmbZIP61, an ortholog of Arabidopsis ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL 5 (HY5) and showed a function similar to that of HY5 in regulating photomorphogenesis. We found that ZmSRO1e repressed the transcriptional activity of ZmbZIP61 toward target genes involved in the regulation of cell expansion, such as ZmEXPB4 and ZmEXPB6, by interfering with the binding of ZmbZIP61 to the promoters of target genes. Transformer‐based foundation models such as ChatGPTs have revolutionized our daily life and affected many fields including bioinformatics. In this perspective, we first discuss about the direct application of textual foundation models on bioinformatics tasks, focusing on how to make the most out of canonical large language models and mitigate their inherent flaws. Meanwhile, we go through the transformer‐based, bioinformatics‐tailored foundation models for both sequence and non‐sequence data. Elderly hemodialysis (HD) patients have a high risk of death. The effect of different types of HD membranes on survival is still controversial. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the use of low-flux or high-flux membranes and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in elderly hemodialysis patients. This was a retrospective clinical study involving maintenance hemodialysis patients which were categorized into low-flux and high-flux groups according to the dialyzer they were using. Propensity score matching was used to balance the baseline data of the two groups. Survival rates were compared between the two groups, and the risk factors for death were analyzed by multivariate Cox regression. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis revealed no significant difference in all-cause mortality between the low-flux group and the high-flux group (log-rank test, p = 0.559). Cardiovascular mortality was significantly greater in the low-flux group than in the high-flux group (log-rank test, p = 0.049). After adjustment through three different multivariate models, we detected no significant difference in all-cause mortality. Patients in the high-flux group had a lower risk of cardiovascular death than did those in the low-flux group (HR = 0.79, 95% CI, 0.54–1.16, p = 0.222; HR = 0.58, 95% CI, 0.37–0.91, p = 0.019). High-flux hemodialysis was associated with a lower relative risk of cardiovascular mortality in elderly MHD patients. High-flux hemodialysis did not improve all-cause mortality rate. Differences in urea distribution volume, blood flow, and systemic differences in solute clearance by dialyzers were not further analyzed, which are the limitations of this study. Increasing demand for bio-interfaced human-machine interfaces propels the development of organic neuromorphic electronics with small form factors leveraging both ionic and electronic processes. Ion-based organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) showing anti-ambipolarity (OFF-ON-OFF states) reduce the complexity and size of bio-realistic Hodgkin-Huxley(HH) spiking circuits and logic circuits. However, limited stable anti-ambipolar organic materials prevent the design of integrated, tunable, and multifunctional neuromorphic and logic-based systems. In this work, a general approach for tuning anti-ambipolar characteristics is presented through assembly of a p-n bilayer in a vertical OECT (vOECT) architecture. The vertical OECT design reduces device footprint, while the bilayer material tuning controls the anti-ambipolarity characteristics, allowing control of the device's on and off threshold voltages, and peak position, while reducing size thereby enabling tunable threshold spiking neurons and logic gates. Combining these components, a mimic of the retinal pathway reproducing the wavelength and light intensity encoding of horizontal cells to spiking retinal ganglion cells is demonstrated. This work enables further incorporation of conformable and adaptive OECT electronics into biointegrated devices featuring sensory coding through parallel processing for diverse artificial intelligence and computing applications. Stable anti-ambipolar organic materials are limited, thus preventing the design of integrated, tunable, and multifunctional neuromorphic systems.
