This paper investigates recruitment decisions of temporary work with several levels of experience, from beginners to experts (heterogeneous efficiency) to accelerate a manufacturing project with the objective of labour cost minimisation. A Mixed Integer Linear Program formulation of the problem is developed to find the optimal pool of temporary work of each experience level so as to minimise the cost subject to a desired deadline. The deadline is decreased decrementally in order to identify any potential patterns of recruitment along the reduction in the project duration. A variety of projects, efficiency levels with respect to years of experience and cost scenarios are considered in an experimental framework. Simulation results show a high sensitivity of the optimal pool of temporary work to the project type, efficiency levels and costs. A worst-case analysis suggests that using solely expert temporary workers might be the best recruiting policy to accelerate a project, whatever the desired deadline. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examined the relationship between work experience, educational background, and employability. Utilizing a correlational research design, a researcher-developed questionnaire was administered to a sample of 151 human resources practitioners from the National Capital Region (NCR) through cluster sampling. The research instrument's validity and reliability were evaluated by assessing content and construct validity, along with calculating the reliability coefficient using Cronbach's alpha to establish its psychometric properties. Also, interviews were conducted to triangulate the findings and enhance the study's rigor, addressing potential social desirability and response biases inherent in self-reported data from online surveys. Pearson R Correlation Analysis assessed the strength and direction of the linear relationships among these variables. The results indicated that employers prioritize work experience over educational background in hiring decisions. Specifically, there is a low but significant positive relationship between the preference for work experience and the likelihood of applicants being hired, as well as between the preference for educational background and employment probability. These findings suggest that job seekers might enhance their employability by acquiring relevant work experience and that hiring practices could benefit from placing greater emphasis on practical experience. Thus, the study acknowledges limitations including the use of simple random sampling and the geographic focus on the National Capital Region, which may affect the generalizability of the findings. Research studying employment before, during, and after spells of entrepreneurship is growing in both popularity and importance for understanding the antecedents and consequences of entrepreneurship. However, methodological challenges (e.g., retrospective bias, limitations of archival data sources) hinder further development and refinement. The Occupational Information Network, better known as O*Net, is a database of occupational characteristics that is scarcely used in entrepreneurship research, yet can help scholars overcome these challenges. In this article, I provide a brief primer on O*Net, illustrate how it can be used to advance entrepreneurship research, and offer summaries of best practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this article is to report on Italian nurses' perceptions of their performance and work-related behaviors. The data for the study were derived from a questionnaire that included the items from the Individual Workplace Performance Scale, which was distributed via the internet during March 2021. The analysis of the responses found that women complained more about their work than men. Older nurses reported concerns about keeping up-to-date; they also thought that they carried out their work more efficiently than younger nurses and that they were better able to come up with creative solutions for new problems. The nurses who had been working for 6 to 10 years reported feeling more vulnerable in their positions. Based on cognitive-affective system theory and using tour guides, hotel and attraction staff as subjects, three experimental studies investigated the effect of using service robots on career identity. The results were that: (1) the use of service robots significantly affected career identity; (2) emotional exhaustion mediated the relationship between service robot use and career identity; and (3) years of work experience and staff age positively moderated the main effect. Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) often face societal barriers to accessing employment due to stigma and discrimination. For people with IDD who have an employment history, little is known about their experiences in accessing employment opportunities. Self-determination behaviors are considered an integral component to a successful adulthood, yet there is limited research that gives voice to people with IDD describing their self-determination and experiences with employment. This study used qualitative content analysis to examine self-determination behaviors in employment experiences of 18 adults with disabilities. Participants provided clear examples of self-determined behaviors which benefited their navigation in work and life. Participants shared advice for other adults with IDD on how to attain employment. Background: Oncology nurses support cancer patients in meeting their self-care needs, often neglecting their own emotions and self-care needs. This study aims to investigate the variations in the five facets of holistic mindfulness among Italian oncology nurses based on gender, work experience in oncology, and shift work. Method: A cross-sectional study was carried out in 2023 amongst all registered nurses who were employed in an oncology setting and working in Italy. Results: There were no significant differences in all five facets of holistic mindfulness (p ≥ 0.05) according to gender, work experience in the oncology field, and shift work. Conclusion: Could holistic mindfulness be defined as an intrinsic individual characteristic? Surely, more insights will be necessary to better define the holistic trend in oncology nursing. Higher education students in Finland and all over the world are often engaged in a paid job alongside their studies. The purpose of the present study is to explore how humanities students' work experience is related to their career engagement and metacognitive awareness. More precisely, the aim is to investigate how the nature and amount of work are associated with career engagement and metacognitive awareness. A total of 302 master's students filled out the questionnaire. The data were analysed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, Pearson correlations, independent samples t-test and One-Way ANOVA. The results showed that working students had higher scores on networking than non-working students. In addition, the study revealed that the amount of work and work related to the study field were positively related to career engagement (career planning and networking). Regarding metacognitive awareness, the amount of work matters. Full-time working students had higher scores on both dimensions of metacognitive awareness, namely knowledge of cognition and regulation of cognition. In addition, work related to one's own study field was connected with the perceived relevance of work. This study investigates the relationships among hotel employees' resilience, job satisfaction, and work engagement. It also explores the mediating role of job satisfaction and the moderating role of hotel employees' work experience. The hypotheses are examined using data collected from 454 employees working in 4- and 5-star hotels in major cities in Thailand, including Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket. Findings highlight the significant effect of resilience on the job satisfaction and work engagement of employees. Job satisfaction is confirmed as a mediator, while work experience is a moderator that increases the influence of resilience on the job satisfaction of senior hotel employees. The study aims to identify profiles of trainee teachers in terms of their stress and work experiences and to uncover profile differences in regard to dropout intentions and perceived relationships between trainee teachers and their mentors. Based on data from 1,756 German trainee teachers, three distinct stress and work experience profiles could be identified. Trainee teachers with high levels of stress and negative work experiences exhibit higher dropout intentions and experience their relationship with their mentors as less transparent, fair and trusting, and more ambivalent compared to trainee teachers with low levels of stress and positive work experiences. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of variables such as work experience, competence, and work discipline on teacher performance with work motivation as an intervening variable at Nur Al Hiraa Character School. Purpose: This paper aims to explain the unwillingness to exchange export knowledge by members of exporters' networks and provides potential solutions to this problem. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses data from a survey of 301 members of a French exporter's network to test a set of hypotheses with partial least squares structural equation modeling. Findings: Network participants' export experience and age have a negative influence on their willingness to exchange knowledge. However, positive attitudes toward the network (perception of network quality, commitment) can mitigate those negative links. Practical implications: Network members' unwillingness to exchange knowledge represents a major challenge that threatens the existence of knowledge networks. The findings suggest solutions to this issue for network managers. Originality/value: This study views knowledge exchange in a network as a risky behavior. High-quality healthcare is essential for community well-being and positive health outcomes. Healthcare settings, therefore, should deliver timely, equitable, integrated, efficient, effective, safe, and people-centered service. As in other countries, the COVID-19 pandemic and the nursing shortage crisis have impacted Myanmar's nursing care quality. A cross-sectional study was conducted to examine the predictability of nurse staffing, educational levels, work experience, nurse work environment, and job satisfaction on the quality of nursing care among 218 registered nurses from five general hospitals in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar during July and September 2022. Data were collected using the Demographic and Nurse Staffing Data Form, the Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index, the Job Satisfaction Survey, and the Good Nursing Care Scale. The data were examined using descriptive statistics and a stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results revealed that the overall quality of nursing care as perceived by nurses was high. The significant predictors of the quality of nursing care from the highest to the lowest were nurse work environment, nurse staffing, work experience, and job satisfaction, explaining 56% of the variance in the quality of nursing care. This study provides vital evidence for creating strategies to enrich and sustain the quality of nursing care in Myanmar and possibly other countries. Nursing directors should work with the government to produce and recruit more nurses, allocate budgets for care, and create a supportive work environment for nurses to improve healthcare quality. This paper investigates the effects of migration and work experience on university-to-work transitions of German university graduates. We use a job search model, signaling and social network theory to discuss different links between the duration of labor market entry, graduate mobility and work experience. We apply event history analyses and make use of administrative social security records to examine whether work experience and pre-study as well as post-study migration accelerates the labor market entry of graduates. Our regression results stress the importance of both mobility and work experience for the length of the transition period. This article is based on a study of the public relations environment in Poland and contains many references to the problems that Polish PR professionals have to deal with while performing their daily professional duties. The purpose of the article is to identify the factors that determine the frequency with which sustainable development elements are used in PR campaigns. The unit of analysis consists of the responses of 315 PR professionals who represent various organizations and provide services both to their clients and themselves, contributing to the PR structures of private and public companies. The main research technique was an online CAWI survey conducted in 2022. The main hypothesis of the article assumes that the professional experience of Polish PR professionals determines the frequency of using sustainable development elements in PR campaigns. In light of the above considerations, this article can make a valuable contribution to the discussion on the evolution of the PR specialist's role in the context of sustainable development. This study aimed to determine the effect of mutation and work experience on employee performance in BULOG Public Company Sumatra and South Regional Offices. The sample in this study was selected through nonprobability sampling and the solving formula with 40 employees obtained from each field. Data were obtained by distributing questionnaires to respondents. The data collection method in this study was a data analysis technique using multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were that mutations had a positive and significant effect on employee performance, work experience had a positive and significant effect on employee performance, and mutations and work experience together have a positive and significant influence on employee performance. A recent meta-analysis found reciprocal prospective effects between self-esteem and some aspects of work experience, for example, job satisfaction, and the authors concluded that their findings were consistent with a causal model, where self-esteem affects, and is affected by, work experiences. However, the prospective effects were estimated while adjusting for a prior measure of the outcome variable, and it is known that such adjusted cross-lagged effects may be spurious due to a correlation between the predictor and residuals in the initial measurement of the outcome and regression to the mean. The present reanalyses of the same meta-analytic data found all prospective effects between self-esteem and work experiences to be spurious. Does working in a low-wage job lead to increased opportunities for upward mobility, or is it a dead-end that traps workers? In this article, we examine whether low-wage jobs are "stepping-stones" that enable workers to move to higher-paid jobs that are linked by institutional mobility ladders and skill transferability. To identify occupational linkages, we create two measures of occupational similarity using data on occupational mobility from matched samples of the Current Population Survey (CPS) and data on multiple dimensions of job skills from the O*NET. We test whether work experience in low-wage occupations increases mobility between linked occupations that results in upward wage mobility. Our analysis uses longitudinal data on low-wage workers from the 1979 National Longitudinal Study of Youth (NLSY) and the 1996 to 2008 panels of the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP). We test the stepping-stone perspective using multinomial conditional logit (MCL) models, which allow us to analyze the joint effects of work experience and occupational linkages on achieving upward wage mobility. We find evidence for stepping-stone mobility in certain areas of the low-wage occupational structure. In these occupations, low-wage workers can acquire skills through work experience that facilitate upward mobility through occupational changes to skill and institutionally linked occupations. Employee participation has long been a central challenge facing the management and governance of any company. It is considered a success factor for companies, as well as an important condition for employee empowerment and emancipation. However, most scholarship in this field tends to position employee participation as a simple add-on policy, rather than a reconceptualization of the collective work environment that can enable the convergence of individual needs and the common good. The challenge, therefore, is to better value the capacity of employees to manage their work environment in a collective and responsible manner. Our goal in this essay is to address this challenge by sketching a political perspective on employee participation. We rely on Zask's work on contributive democracy in this regard. We begin by discussing some of the limitations of the dominant approach to employee participation, especially financial participation. We then present the three different dimensions of participation highlighted by Zask to show how all three taken together can constitute a promising model of social control and self-government by employees. Job crafting is the process of individuals redefining and adjusting their job in personally meaningful ways to improve their work experience. In this multiple case study, we explore how a group of kindergarten teachers conducted job crafting and examine its potential outcomes. Based on criterion sampling and purposeful selection, we recruit 28 kindergarten teachers and four principals working in Shanghai, China. Qualitative interviews and the analysis of kindergarten teachers' diaries and work documents demonstrate that kindergarten teachers are not necessarily passive recipients of job characteristics; instead, they have the potential to be proactive agents in their work. Teachers craft their jobs in four main ways: task crafting, relational crafting, cognitive crafting, and work-life crafting. In addition, they employ 12 specific crafting techniques. The interviews reveal that by aligning work with teachers' abilities, needs, and preferences, job crafting can help improve kindergarten teachers' work experience and reduce occupational dysfunction. The results call for more focus on individual teachers' discretionary and extra-role work behaviors. The findings have implications for policymakers, administrators, and principals in considering crafting a new pathway to increase staff stability, reduce teacher attrition, and improve education quality in early childhood settings. Purpose: Despite the large number of Indonesian health-care workers working as migrant care workers in Japan, there is a lack of studies that have investigated this phenomenon or assessed the working conditions of Indonesian care workers working in Japanese aged-care facilities. This study aims to explore the work experiences of Indonesian care workers in Japan. Design/methodology/approach: A qualitative descriptive research design was used, and a purposive sample of 18 Indonesian health-care workers (12 nurses and six midwives) who work as care workers in Japan participated in this study. Semistructured interviews were conducted with these participants between December 2022 and January 2023. The data were analyzed using content analysis. The Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research checklist was used to report this study. Findings: Four key themes emerged from the data: easy but mentally challenging, being a care worker is a blessing, working in a partially Muslim-friendly environment and enjoy living: prefer to stay longer. Originality/value: The work experiences of Indonesian care workers in Japan are complex and multifaceted. The relevance of this scientific research lies in clarifying the nature and features of the legal regulation of vacations for medical workers in Ukraine. The purpose of this study is to determine the specifics of the legal regulation of the types of vacations that may be granted to medical workers. The methodological basis of the study was general scientific and special legal methods of knowledge, in particular theoretical, formal, dogmatic, and comparative legal methods. The results of the study are that the rest time of a medical worker is proposed to be understood as a period of release from professional duties for the restoration of work capacity and professional development. Several features of the legal regulation of medical workers' vacations have been identified. Please note that additional vacation may be assigned to medical workers of various specialties along with the main vacation. Additional vacations lasting 7 to 25 days are granted to medical workers of certain specialties who work in certain healthcare institutions due to harmful or special working conditions. Additional vacations are established for such medical workers as psychiatrists, pathologists, resuscitators, anesthesiologists, obstetricians, epidemiologists, doctors of medical and social expert commissions, bureaus of forensic medical examinations, and health care institutions for the fight against AIDS. It is emphasized that specific categories of medical workers have the right to additional vacation in connection with the experience of continuous work in rural areas or at another place of work. Also, medical workers have the right to use all types of additional social vacations, established for all categories of workers in Ukraine. The study concludes that a special Ukrainian law "On the Status of Medical Workers" would improve the legal regulation of medical workers' labor relations. The present study questions the indiscriminate use -- or misuse -- of job performance self-rating measures in work and organizational psychology. We provide evidence for systematic cognitive distortions in the traditional predictors (i.e., work engagement and work experience) of self-ratings of job performance. A cross-sectional study was conducted (N = 470) where employees were asked to fill in a questionnaire composed of self-report measures on job performance, work engagement, and systematic cognitive distortions. Findings suggest that highly engaged older (i.e., aging) employees tend to have optimistic judgments of their job performance which was reflected in higher levels of self-rated task performance. Likewise, adults with higher work experience (i.e., long-tenured) tend to adhere to social and organizational conventions in line with cognitive decision rules and systematic distortions which may lead to misjudgment of their contextual performance. The paper reports the findings of over a decade of pioneering, award-winning fieldwork which has explored how workplace experience, if embedded successfully in different stages of legal education, can accelerate the 'speed to capability' and skills development of early career lawyers. The benefits from initial experiments of graduate-level work placements carried out by the authors since 2008 are presented. The paper then explores the findings from almost 10 years of creating year-long work placements for law undergraduates, assessing student skill growth, and the impact of the work placements on degree results and employment outcomes, before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Background: Nursing students' experiences during clinical training in aged care placements is a well‐studied topic. However, there is less research on the connection between nursing students' prior experiences as assistants in nursing (AIN) and their perception of aged care nursing. Aim: The aim of this study was to identify and synthesize undergraduate nursing students' experiences as working as AIN in aged care settings. Method: A systematic review was carried out by searching the CINAHL, Scopus, Medline and Medic databases, supplemented by manual searches. The searches focused on peer‐reviewed scientific empirical research articles published in English, with a 10‐year date limitation. The data were analysed by the qualitative content method. Results: The review identified 11 articles, which showed that nursing students' prior work experience shifts their perceptions of older adults' care. The findings were organized under four major themes. Through their employment as AIN, (1) nursing students' ability to reflect and develop skills needed in clinical work strengthened, (2) they became aware of the independent role of the nurse, (3) they feel part of the workplace community and (4) they recognized their feelings and views about aged care as a career. Conclusion: Students' work experience in aged care helps them to observe aged care settings as a unique set up and nursing comprehensively from the perspective of an older adult's care needs and they can observe the dynamics of a workplace community. We identify the causal effects of three types of internships (mandatory intra-curricular, voluntary intra-curricular, and voluntary extra-curricular) among university graduates on job interview and hiring chances, and explore the mechanisms underlying these effects. To this end, we perform a vignette experiment among HR professionals in Belgium. Our results indicate that internships improve one's job interview and hiring chances, with voluntary extra-curricular internships having the strongest effect. With respect to the mechanisms, we find that internships improve employers' perceptions about the job seekers' skills acquired during the educational career, their pre-existing abilities and motivations, and their knowledge of the job content and working conditions. The first two types of perceptions are also found to be strong predictors of the hiring outcomes. (1) Background: Several researchers have highlighted a higher incidence of overweight and obesity among nurses, and others have analyzed the quality of nurses' eating habits and their related physical activity levels. The present study assessed the differences in personal habits among Italian oncology nurses according to sex, work experience and shift. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed during September–October 2023. A Google Moduli questionnaire was created and divulgated through Facebook and Instagram "Nurseallface" social pages. (3) Results: A total of 306 Italian oncology nurses agreed to participate in this study. Significant differences were reported between sex and the nutrition dimension (p = 0.018); male nurses reported higher levels in this dimension (2.69 ± 0.43) than females (2.56 ± 0.49). By considering the role of work experience in the health-promoting lifestyle profile, significant differences were recorded in the physical activity sub-dimension (p < 0.001), especially among nurses employed for more than 30 years who reported higher levels of physical activity (5.25 ± 0.23) than the other groups. By considering the shift role in the health-promoting lifestyle profile, significant differences were recorded with a health-promoting lifestyle general score (p = 0.046), especially among nurses employed only during the morning shift who recorded higher levels in health-promoting lifestyle than the others (one shift: 2.49 ± 0.29 vs. two shifts: 2.47 ± 0.24 vs. three shifts: 2.41 ± 0.25). Additionally, significant differences were reported in the physical activity dimension (p = 0.017), since nurses employed only during the morning shift recorded higher levels of physical activity than the others (one shift: 2.96 ± 1.28 vs. two shifts: 2.55 ± 0.94 vs. three shifts: 2.48 ± 1.20). Finally, a significant difference was recorded in the nutrition dimension (p = 0.017), since nurses employed during the morning and the afternoon shifts recorded higher levels of nutrition than the others (two shifts: 2.73 ± 0.39 vs. one shift: 2.63 ± 0.43 vs. three shifts: 2.56 ± 0.51). The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of education level, age and work experience on employee work productivity at the Kayangan District Office, Lombok Utara Regency. The population in this study were all employees at the Kayangan District Office, Lombok Utara Regency, totaling 38 people. Consisting of 22 civil servant employees and 16 non civil servant employees. The data collection method used in this research uses the census method. And the data collection technique used is through questionnaires and literature study. The analysis technique used uses a Likert scale and eviews 10, using multiple linear regression analysis methods, coefficient of determination test (R2), t test and simultaneous regression coefficient significance test (f test). The results of this research show that education level, age and work experience simultaneously influence employee work productivity at the Kayangan District Office, Lombok Utara Regency, the R2 value is 0.56, which means that the three independent variables used in the model are able to explain the independent variable by 56%, while The other 44% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study. Increasing the consumption of medicinal plants has many benefits, including creating employment and generating income for producers, especially in rural communities whose livelihoods are highly dependent on nature. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the factors affecting the consumption of medicinal plants and its status in the market in order to provide the most important factors for the development of this type of exploitation. This study examines the presentation and consumption of medicinal plants and the attitude and belief of people in it in the perfumeries of Torbat Heydarieh. Descriptive research method and collection tool was done using a questionnaire designed by the researcher. The statistical population of this study was the most important and significant perfumers of Torbat Heydariyeh and buyers of medicinal plants. The sample size using the Cochran's formula is equal to 383 which includes127 prominent perfumers of Torbat Heydarieh city and 256 buyers of medicinal plants were selected. After collecting the data by a questionnaire, the research data were analyzed using SPSS23 software. The results showed that there was a significant and positive relationship between the manner of keeping medicinal plants and the amount of consumption of people (r = 0.32) and the relationship between the supply of medicinal plants and the amount of consumption of people (r = 0.390) was obtained. Between people's attitudes and beliefs about the effectiveness of medicinal plants and Consumption of people (r = 0.582) and a significant and positive relationship was obtained between having a degree related to medicinal plants and the amount of consumption of medicinal plants by people (r = 0.376). Therefore, only by increasing the awareness of consumers about the benefits of using medicinal plants and also by changing the way of supplying medicinal plants from traditional to modern methods, it is possible to help the development of the market of medicinal plants. Objective: The study aimed to reinvestigate psychological mechanisms of the influence of construction workers' experience on hazard recognition performance, with signal detection theory (SDT) and electroencephalogram (EEG) readings. Background: Existing evidence regarding the effect of experience on hazard recognition performance in the construction industry remains inconsistent. Behavior-wise, identification of dominant hazard recognition factors (sensitivity or response bias, or both) would help determine appropriate training strategies to improve hazard recognition. In terms of neuro-responses, induced gamma-band activity was expected to reflect the cognitive functions mediating the psychological effects of experience. Method: Seventy-seven construction workers participated in a predesigned hazard recognition task, in which participants judged whether a hazard was present from a series of construction scenario pictures. We computed and compared the sensitivity and response bias of SDT and time-frequency representations of recorded EEG signals of the two experience-level groups. Results: Novice workers had higher hazard recognition rates. Behavior-wise, novices were more sensitive than more experienced workers. Compared with experienced workers, novices showed stronger gamma-band difference power (hazardous minus safe) in the left frontal and right posterior parietal areas during the hazard recognition process. Conclusion: Novices performed better at hazard recognition, indicating their sensitivity to the hazards without a clear difference in response bias. Based on the EEG data, novices' sensitivity may be attributed to more efficient working memory and attentional control. The present study investigated bidirectional associations between teachers' sense of inadequacy and self-efficacy and factors related to them across one academic year. Teachers (N = 52) rated their sense of inadequacy and self-efficacy in fall and spring, and reported the number of students in need of support in spring. The results of cross-lagged path models showed that teachers' sense of inadequacy in fall negatively predicted their subsequent self-efficacy, especially in the dimensions of student engagement and classroom management. In addition, teachers' work experience and number of students with need of support in terms of social and behavioral problems were related to teacher self-efficacy (TSE). Based on these findings, the number of students in need of support in the classroom is a critical factor that influences TSE; therefore, teachers may need support to manage students with needs in terms of social and behavioral problems to maintain their sense of high self-efficacy. This research identifies the soft (employability) skills that key stakeholders view as essential for young people with intellectual disability (ID) to gain and maintain open employment. The study subsequently examined the work experience opportunities for young people with ID to develop these soft skills during their school years. Background: Collegial midwifery assistance during the active second stage of labor that involves a second midwife being present has been shown to reduce severe perineal trauma (SPT) by 30%. The aim of this study was to investigate primary midwives' experiences of collegial midwifery assistance with the purpose of preventing SPT during the active second stage of labor. Methods: This study uses an observational design with data from a multicenter randomized controlled trial (Oneplus). Data consist of clinical registration forms completed by the midwives after birth. Descriptive statistics as well as univariable and multivariable logistic regression were used to analyze the data. Results: The majority of the primary midwives felt confident (61%) and were positive (56%) toward the practice. Midwives with less than 2 years' work experience were more likely to completely agree they felt confident (aOR 9.18, 95% CI: 6.28–13.41) and experience the intervention as positive (aOR 4.04, 95% CI: 2.83–5.78) than those with over 20 years' work experience. Factors such as duration of time spent in the birthing room by the second midwife, opportunity for planning and if the second midwife provided support were further associated with the primary midwife's experience of the practice as being positive. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that having a second midwife present during the active second stage of labor was an accepted practice, with the majority of primary midwives feeling confident and positive toward the intervention. Learning the host society's language and finding a job are important steps for the societal integration of refugees. Especially language proficiency is a key barrier for the integration of low literates. Often language training and gaining work skills are separated during the integration procedure. We investigated a 1-year pilot program for refugees with low-literacy levels in the Netherlands, which combined language training (daily classes, work-related language) with work experience in sheltered employment (second-hand shop) to facilitate language learning and prepare this group better for the labour market. Building on Ager and Strang's conceptual integration framework (2008), we expected that this combined program should improve agency (communication strategies, preparedness for the labour market) via intergroup contact at work. We used a mixed-method approach to follow the development of participants (N=10) longitudinally (baseline, after 6 months, after 11 months). We gathered questionnaire data, interviewed teachers and students, and observed interactions in classes and at work. Overall, use of communication strategies increased. Analyzing individual cases (profiles) offered nuanced insights into for whom and why the program seems to have differential impact, especially in terms of labour market preparation. This article explores the use of HR analytics to analyze the pathways through which high-potential managers ascend to C-suite positions and how different developmental paths influence turnover among executives. The study analyzes the work experiences of 53 general managers spanning 57 years, revealing three distinct developmental paths to the C-suite. The study also identifies that a more complex developmental path tends to reinforce executives' competency in self-awareness while inhibiting their development of technical competency, ultimately resulting in reduced executive turnover. Numerous workers have adopted the flexible working approach due to its accommodating and job-sharing features, which play a key role in easing the employment pressure and maintaining socio-economic sustainability in China. This paper will study the impact of work experience on the income of flexible workers and the characteristics of impact mechanism. We use micro survey data from CFPS2020 to analyze flexible workers in China. This study found that, firstly, while the feature of flexible employment may be very different from formal employment, its relationship with work experience and income is as significantly correlated as it is for formal employment with a rise–fall, inverted U-shaped trend, but the return on work experience is lower than the employment level in the labor market. Secondly, there is an income gap between genders, especially in physical labor-intensive forms of flexible work; women can gradually narrow the gender income gap through continuous learning. Thirdly, the return on work experience in the older age group is lower than that in the youth group of flexible workers, and this may be due to the dynamic evolution of the elimination of existing work experience and the accumulation of new work experience. Fourthly, in contrast with the findings of the labor market as a whole, the trend of work experience return in flexible employment is reversed; the low-income group's return rate of work experience is higher than that of the high-income group, and it can be seen that flexible employment is conducive to the development of new and young workers. The digital transformation is rapidly changing in-store service settings. This paper explores how frontline employees experience and cope with technology-related challenges. Based on a qualitative approach and the use of observations and interviews, this research advances our understanding of how such coping is performed in retail stores and how it contributes to defining employees' work experiences. The paper shows that employees engage in multiple coping practices; involving different forms of problem-solving, but also more proactive coping activities through which employees reconstruct their work. Moreover, the findings improve our understanding of how coping activities contribute to shaping retail work; thus illustrating how employees' in-store work practices are altered as they cope with new technology. The paper demonstrates that the organizational support that employees receive (e.g. available IT support, opportunities to learn from co-workers) is crucial to how technology-related coping is performed and experienced. How the sectoral work experience of local leaders affects local public expenditure is underexplored. Using a unique panel dataset on the work experience of secretaries of the provincial party committee (SPPCs) and governors of provinces (GPs) in China, this study empirically analyses how the work experience of provincial leaders in the agricultural sector affects agricultural public expenditure. The results show that the work experience of SPPCs in the agricultural sector significantly raises agricultural public expenditure, while the work experience of GPs in the agricultural sector shows no such effect. In addition, there is a positive relationship between the tenure of SPPCs in the agricultural sector and agricultural public expenditure. Moreover, this study reveals that SPPCs with work experience in the agricultural departments of the central government will increase agricultural public expenditure to a greater extent than SPPCs with work experience in the agricultural departments of local governments. Furthermore, the positive work experience of SPPCs in the agricultural sector on agricultural public expenditure is because such experience shapes their intrinsic preferences for agricultural affairs. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore the degree of variance in work value preferences espoused by university students based on whether the students are in possession of work experience and experience abroad. Vocational identity development (VID) was used as a theoretical lens to explore the extent to which being in possession of experience in these two areas shapes vocational identity. Design/methodology/approach: A questionnaire (n = 1,188) was employed to measure the relative salience for 8 latent work values constructs and 25 individual-level work values. Respondents were classified into two groups based on work experience and abroad experience, and the differences in work value preferences between these groups were explored. Findings: The authors' comparison of sample groups revealed that respondents without experience abroad attached significantly greater importance to specific work values (e.g. stability, extrinsic motivation and leisure) than those with sojourner experience. The relative salience of specific work values (e.g. altruistic and extrinsic motivation) was found to be significantly greater for respondents without work experience than those with such experience, however, not to the extent of abroad experience. VID as a theoretical framework was found to be valuable in conceptualising how work value preferences appear to be the outcome of a process of co-construction between an individual and his environment. Research limitations/implications: The reasons as to how and why changes in work value salience occur cannot be conclusively established due to the exploratory nature and conceptual design of the present study. Practical implications: The findings suggest work and abroad experience play a pivotal role in shaping respondents' work values and, more generally, the VID. This reinforces the need for cooperation between higher education and industry to provide experiential learning opportunities and career guidance to enhance graduate employability and contribute to long-term engagement of talent in tight labour markets. Originality/value: The value of these findings is that the findings contribute to greater conceptual understanding of the relationship between work experience, abroad experience and work value preferences. This is particularly relevant to academic staff and curriculum developers at a tertiary level in preparing and guiding university students in their interactions with professional practice.
