Many bioactive compounds are reported from marine organisms, which are significantly different from those found in terrestrial organisms regarding their chemical structures and pharmacological activities. Marine glycoproteins (MGs) have aroused increasing attention as a good nutrient source owing to their potential applications in medicine, cosmetics and food. However, there is a lack of a comprehensive study on MGs to help readers understand the current state of research on marine-derived glycoproteins. The current review compiles the recent progress made on the structures and functions of MGs with future perspectives to maximize their value and applications via bibliometric analysis methods for the first time. The current research on MGs appears mostly limited to the laboratory, with no large-scale production of marine glycoproteins developed. The sugar chains are bound to proteins through covalent bonds that can readily be cleaved leading to difficultly in their separation and purification. Health effects attributed to MGs include treatment of inflammatory diseases, as well as anti-oxidant, immune modulation, anti-tumor, hypolipidemic, hypoglycemic, anti-bacterial and anti-freeze activities. This review can not only deepen the understanding of the functions of MGs, but also lay an important foundation for the further development and utilization of marine resources. Background: Fritillaria ussuriensis is an endangered medicinal plant known for its notable therapeutic properties. Unfortunately, its population has drastically declined due to the destruction of forest habitats. Thus, effectively protecting F. ussuriensis from extinction poses a significant challenge. A profound understanding of its genetic foundation is crucial. To date, research on the complete mitochondrial genome of F. ussuriensis has not yet been reported. Results: The complete mitochondrial genome of F. ussuriensis was sequenced and assembled by integrating PacBio and Illumina sequencing technologies, revealing 13 circular chromosomes totaling 737,569 bp with an average GC content of 45.41%. A total of 55 genes were annotated in this mitogenome, including 2 rRNA genes, 12 tRNA genes, and 41 PCGs. The mitochondrial genome of F. ussuriensis contained 192 SSRs and 4,027 dispersed repeats. In the PCGs of F. ussuriensis mitogenome, 90.00% of the RSCU values exceeding 1 exhibited a preference for A-ended or U-ended codons. In addition, 505 RNA editing sites were predicted across these PCGs. Selective pressure analysis suggested negative selection on most PCGs to preserve mitochondrial functionality, as the notable exception of the gene nad3 showed positive selection. Comparison between the mitochondrial and chloroplast genomes of F. ussuriensis revealed 20 homologous fragments totaling 8,954 bp. Nucleotide diversity analysis revealed the variation among genes, and gene atp9 was the most notable. Despite the conservation of GC content, mitogenome sizes varied significantly among six closely related species, and colinear analysis confirmed the lack of conservation in their genomic structures. Phylogenetic analysis indicated a close relationship between F. ussuriensis and Lilium tsingtauense. Conclusions: In this study, we sequenced and annotated the mitogenome of F. ussuriensis and compared it with the mitogenomes of other closely related species. To investigate the mechanism of the hypoglycemic effect of immature guava fruit extract on diabetic mice, a diabetes mouse model was established through streptozotocin induction. The mice were divided into normal, normal hypo-glycemic, model, positive control, and high, medium, and low dose groups of immature guava fruit extract. The fasting blood glucose, glucose tolerance, and lipid profile of the mice were measured. Pathological observations were conducted on the liver, kidney, and pancreatic tissues, and a non-targeted metabolomics study was carried out on the serum samples to investigate the therapeutic effects of immature guava fruit on diabetic mice. The results showed that, compared to the model group, the high-dose immature guava fruit extract significantly reduced the blood glucose levels (P<0.05) and improved the glucose tolerance (P<0.05) in diabetic mice. It also lowered the levels of serum triglycerides and total cholesterol (P<0.05), and exhibited a certain protective effect on the liver, kidney, and pancreatic tissues (tissue morphology integrity) of the diabetic mice. Through serum metabolomics analysis, 27 significantly altered differential metabolites had been screened out, and it had been clarified that cortisol synthesis and secretion were the most relevant metabolic pathways. Conclusion: The aqueous extract of immature guava fruit had exhibited certain effects in lowering blood glucose, regulating lipid levels, and protecting liver, kidney, and pancreatic tissues. Rapid and accurate classification of urban tree species is crucial for the protection and management of urban ecology. However, tree species classification remains a great challenge because of the high spatial heterogeneity and biodiversity. Addressing this challenge, in this study, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based high-resolution RGB imagery and LiDAR data were utilized to extract seven types of features, including RGB spectral features, texture features, vegetation indexes, HSV spectral features, HSV texture features, height feature, and intensity feature. Seven experiments involving different feature combinations were conducted to classify 10 dominant tree species in urban areas with a Random Forest classifier. Additionally, Plurality Filling was applied to further enhance the accuracy of the results as a post-processing method. The aim was to explore the potential of UAV-based RGB imagery and LiDAR data for tree species classification in urban areas, as well as evaluate the effectiveness of the post-processing method. The results indicated that, compared to using RGB imagery alone, the integrated LiDAR and RGB data could improve the overall accuracy and the Kappa coefficient by 18.49% and 0.22, respectively. Notably, among the features based on RGB, the HSV and its texture features contribute most to the improvement of accuracy. The overall accuracy and Kappa coefficient of the optimal feature combination could achieve 73.74% and 0.70 with the Random Forest classifier, respectively. Additionally, the Plurality Filling method could increase the overall accuracy by 11.76%, which could reach 85.5%. The results of this study confirm the effectiveness of RGB imagery and LiDAR data for urban tree species classification. Distributed high-bandwidth consumption services such as cloud computing require large-capacity, long-distance, and wide-coverage development requirements for Next-Generation Passive Optical Networks (NG-PON2). With the development of NG-PON2 technology, the optical line terminal (OLT) device structure of passive optical network (PON) system is also increasingly complex and heterogeneous. This leads to the problem of network congestion and low bandwidth utilization caused by the unbalanced use of link and port resources in the traditional core network in the PON network. Based on the 40G coherent PON experimental system, this paper studies the traffic balancing problem of OLT equipment, and proposes a dynamic traffic balancing strategy based on real-time monitoring of load sharing and reporting of police and periodic adjustment. Fatigue is related to a variety of chronic diseases and has become a hot research topic in recent years. Various bioactive components have been extracted from hairtail fish (Trichiurus lepturus); however, none of these studies involved the anti-fatigue activity of hairtail fish glycoprotein (HGP). Thus, antioxidant experiments were conducted in vitro, and the anti-fatigue activity of HGP was further evaluated in BALB/c mice. The effects of HGP on the behavior of BALB/c mice were verified by classical behavioral experiments, and the indicators related to anti-fatigue activity were detected. The results showed that the antioxidant capacity in vitro of HGP increased gradually in the concentration range of 10 to 100 mg/mL. HGP improved the exercise ability of the mice. HGP was also found to significantly (p < 0.05) reduce the serum levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), blood lactic acid (BLA), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and creatine kinase (CK). The contents of liver glycogen (LG) and muscle glycogen (MG) were also significantly (p < 0.05) increased by HGP. Malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the serum and brains of the mice was significantly (p < 0.05) reduced and catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPX), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were significantly (p < 0.05) increased by HGP, especially in the middle- and high-dose groups. These results enhance our understanding of the anti-fatigue function of HGP and lay an important foundation for the further development and utilization of hairtail fish resources. Airborne hyperspectral data has high spectral-spatial information. However, how to mine and use this information effectively is still a great challenge. Recently, a three-dimensional convolutional neural network (3D-CNN) provides a new effective way of hyperspectral classification. However, its capability of data mining in complex urban areas, especially in cloud shadow areas has not been validated. Therefore, a 3D-1D-CNN model was proposed for feature extraction in complex urban with hyperspectral images affected by cloud shadows. Firstly, spectral composition parameters, vegetation index, and texture characteristics were extracted from hyperspectral data. Secondly, the parameters were fused and segmented into many S × S × B patches which would be input into a 3D-CNN classifier for feature extraction in complex urban areas. Thirdly, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF),1D-CNN, 3D-CNN, and 3D-2D-CNN classifiers were also carried out for comparison. Finally, a confusion matrix and Kappa coefficient were calculated for accuracy assessment. The overall accuracy of the proposed 3D-1D-CNN is 96.32%, which is 23.96%, 11.02%, 5.22%, and 0.42%, much higher than that of SVM, RF, 1D-CNN, or 3D-CNN, respectively. The results indicated that 3D-1D-CNN could mine spatial-spectral information from hyperspectral data effectively, especially that of grass and highway in cloud shadow areas with missing spectral information. A biodegradable photodynamic antibacterial film (PS-CF) was prepared using the casting method, with κ-Carrageenan (κ-Car) as the film-forming substrate and curcumin-β-cyclodextrin (Cur-β-CD) complex as photosensitizer. Chilled pork samples were coated with PS-CF and stored at 4 °C to investigate the effects of PS-CF combined with LED light irradiation (425 nm, 45 min) (PS+L+) on pork preservation during 10 days of storage. The total viable count (TVC) of bacteria, total volatile basic nitrogen value (TVB-N) and the pH of pork treated with PS+L+ were all lower than the control, and the water-holding capacity (WHC) was higher. Ten days later, the TVB-N value was 12.35 ± 0.57 mg/100 g and the TVC value was 5.78 ± 0.17 log CFU/g, which was within the acceptable range. Sensory evaluation determined that the color, odor, and overall acceptability of pork treated with PS+L+ were significantly better than the control. These findings suggest that PS+L+ treatment effectively extended the shelf life of chilled pork from ~4–5 to 10 days. Correlation analysis showed that the sensory quality of the chilled pork significantly correlated with total bacterial counts, TVB-N and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) (p < 0.05), suggesting that these biomarkers could be used as standard indicators for evaluating the freshness of chilled pork. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of Cur-β-CD photodynamic antibacterial film for the preservation of chilled pork and provide a theoretical basis for the application of the film for the preservation of fresh food in general. Cloud computing services and real-time Internet applications have spawned a large variety of potential requirements for quality of service (QoS), especially the latency and connection setup time. However, with the optical networks develop toward to larger scale, wider coverage and more users access, conventional resource reservation protocol traffic engineering (RSVP-TE) signal hop by hop transmission scheme cannot meet the requirements of these new applications for real-time dynamic services and fast restoration with long propagation delays. This paper proposes a novel RSVP-TE bilateral-recursive region re-routing crankback mechanism (BRCB) base on distributed path computation element (PCE) for generalized multiprotocol label switching (GMPLS) optical networks. In this mechanism, the backtracking nodes re-route and update the region routing paths which bypass the crankback and re-routing failure nodes when crankback occurs. It not only reduces the influencing factors of the scale of network, signaling crankback position and frequency to path connection setup time, but also avoids the backtracking of teardown messages. Purpose: Sleep deprivation (SD) leads to memory and cognitive impairment due to damage to the hippocampus. Isoquercetin possesses neuron-protective properties. Our study aimed to investigate the effects of isoquercetin on SD-induced hippocampal neurons damage and the underlying mechanism. Materials and methods: Herein, the cognitive competence was evaluated by Morris water maze test after SD. The morphology of the hippocampus was observed after Nissl staining. Moreover, the level of NLRP3 was detected by Immunofluorescent staining and western blot. In vitro study, pyroptosis was tested by TUNEL assay and flow cytometry. The levels of pyroptosis-related factors were measured by western blot. Results: The results indicated that isoquercetin improved spatial memory and prevented change of hippocampal neurons of SD mice. Moreover, SD upregulated NLRP3 level, which was downregulated by isoquercetin. Additionally, isoquercetin rescued the increase of pyroptosis and the upregulation of NLRP3, caspase-1, ASC, IL-1β, IL-18, and GSDMD levels induced by LPS. Conclusions: In conclusion, isoquercetin improved learning and cognitive capability of SD mice via suppressing NLRP3-induced pyroptosis of hippocampal neurons cells, suggesting that isoquercetin might be an efficacious drug for memory disorders caused by SD. Magnoliadenudata is a well-known ornamental tree in China due to its beautiful blossoms, and it has been used as an analgesic to treat human headaches. This study investigated the anesthetic potential and physiological response of the essential oil of M. denudata flowers on spotted seabass Lateolabrax maculatus. Fish (mean ± SD, 164.16 ± 15.40 g) were individually exposed to different concentrations of M. denudata essential oil (MDO, 10, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120 mg/L) and eugenol (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 mg/L) to investigate anesthetic efficacy. Based on the ideal time criterion for anesthetic induction (< 3 min) and recovery (< 10 min), the lowest effective concentration for spotted seabass was 100 mg/L for MDO and 60 mg/L for eugenol. The physiological and histopathological damage in the gill of L. maculatus after using MDO and eugenol was also evaluated at the minimum dose inducing deep anesthesia, and at 0, 6, and 24 h after recovery. The results showed that MDO and eugenol anesthesia alleviated the levels of cortisol and glucose and the lactic dehydrogenase activity induced by handling. Compared with eugenol, MDO also caused secondary stress to the body, but MDO caused minor physiological responses and histological changes in the gills. Objective. Okra, possessing various bioactive components, is used to treat different diseases. This study sought to estimate the intervention effects of okra extract (OE) on brain-gut peptides (BGPs) and intestinal microorganisms in sleep deprivation (SD) rats. Methods. SD rat models were established using the modified multiple platform method and then treated with normal saline, diazepam tablets, or different doses of OE. Body weight and average daily water consumption of rats were recorded. Depressive behaviors of rats were assessed by the open field test and sucrose preference test. Serum levels of noradrenaline, melatonin, inflammatory factors (IL-1β/IL-6/TNF-α/IL-4/IL-10), and BGP indexes, including gastrin (GAS), motilin (MTL), 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), cholecystokinin (CCK), and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) were measured by ELISA. Additionally, the DNA relative contents of representative intestinal microorganisms in the collected rat feces were determined using RT-qPCR. Results. SD decreased body weight and average daily water consumption and induced depressive behaviors as well as stress and inflammatory responses in rats. SD rats exhibited lowered GAS, MTL, 5-HT, and VIP but elevated CCK and showed diminished DNA relative contents of Bacteroidetes and probiotics (Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli) but increased Clostridium perfringens. OE at different doses ameliorated the depressive behaviors and mitigated the stress and inflammatory responses in SD rats, raised the serum contents of GAS, MTL, 5-HT, and VIP, reduced CCK level, elevated the DNA relative contents of Bacteroidetes and probiotics, but diminished Clostridium perfringens. Objective To study the impacts of alcohol dependence on the anticonvulsant effect of diazepam. Methods Kunming mice (n=36) were divided into 3 groups (n=12 in each group), Alcohol Dependence Group (A group), Diazepam Group (D group)and Normal Saline Group (N group). A group received an intraperitoneal injection with a 0.2 mL dose of 0.8% alcohol in NS (normal saline), while both D and N group received an injection with a 0.2 mL dose of NS without alcohol, twice a day. Mice's autonomic activities were monitored every day. After 7 days, the electroconvulsive experiment was performed. Both A and D group were given a weight-based dose of 0.05 mL/10 g of 0.05% diazepam via intraperitoneal injection, while N group was given a 0.05 mL/10 g dose of NS. Before administration and after 15, 30, 60 min of administration, the convulsion threshold of each group was measured. Results The count of autonomic activity of mice in A group was less than that of mice in D and N group during the 2nd day to 6th day (P<0.05). On the 1st and 7th day, the difference of the count of autonomic activity of mice between A group and the other two groups was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The convulsion threshold of mice in A group was higher than that of mice in D and N group before administration (P<0.05). After administration, the convulsion threshold of mice in N group didn't show statistically significant difference from that of mice before administration (P > 0.05). After 15 min of administration, the convulsion threshold of mice in D group was higher than that of mice in A and N group (P<0.05), while the convulsion threshold of mice in A group was higher than that of mice in N group (P<0.05). After 30 min and 60 min of administration, both the convulsion thresholds of mice in A and D group were higher than that of mice in N group (P<0.05). However, at this point, the difference of the convulsion thresholds of mice between A and D group was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Conclusion Alcohol dependence has anticonvulsant effect. Alcohol dependence weakens the anticonvulsant effect of diazepam. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
