Purpose: To determine the caries status in children’s deciduous teeth and examine the influence of family oral health behaviours on the caries status. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 329 children aged 3–6 years in rural Heishanzui Township, Hebei Province, China, and used a completely random sampling method. These children underwent physical and oral health examinations. The questionnaires were given to the parents and caregivers of the examined children. Results: The prevalence of caries in the deciduous dentition among children aged 3–6 years was 80.55%, with a dmft index of 4.93. Children in the caries group ate sweets, chocolates, and carbonated drinks more frequently than did children in the caries-free group (p < 0.05). Children in the caries-free group brushed their teeth more frequently, with parents helping their children brush, more often than did those in the caries-affected group (p < 0.05). The level of parental education and annual household income also had statistically significant effects on the prevalence of caries in the two groups (p < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis revealed that the frequency of eating sweets was a risk factor for caries in deciduous teeth (odds ratio = 2.20; p < 0.05). Conclusion: The prevalence of caries in deciduous teeth among children aged 3–6 years in rural Heishanzui Township was high. Compared to children in the caries-affected group, the families and children in the caries-free group had better oral hygiene behaviours. Introduction: As one of the main grain crops in China, maize is highly susceptible to Aspergillus infection during processing, storage and transportation due to high moisture at harvest, which results in the loss of quality. The aim of this study is to explore the early warning marker molecules when Aspergillus infects maize kernels. Methods: Firstly, strains MA and MB were isolated from moldy maize and identified by morphological characterization and 18S rRNA gene sequence analysis to be Aspergillus flavus (A. flavus) and Aspergillus niger (A. niger). Next, fresh maize was moldy by contaminated with strains MA and MB. The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the contamination process of two fungal strains were analyzed by gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS). A total of 31 VOCs were detected in maize contaminated with strain MA, a total of 32 VOCs were detected in maize contaminated with strain MB, including confirmed monomers and dimers. Finally, heat maps and principal component analysis (PCA) showed that VOCs produced in different growth stages of Aspergillus had great differences. Combined with the results of GC-IMS, total fungal colony counts and fungal spores, it was concluded that the Aspergillus-contaminated maize was in the early stage of mold at 18 h. Results: Therefore, the characteristic VOCs butan-2-one, ethyl acetate-D, Benzaldehyde, and pentan-2-one produced by maize at 18 h of storage can be used as early mildew biomarkers of Aspergillus infection in maize. Introduction: Depression, anxiety, and somatic symptoms are highly comorbid and represent the most prevalent psychosomatic health issues. Few studies have investigated the network structure of psychosomatic symptoms among traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) students. This study aims to investigate the psychosomatic health status of college students in TCM universities, while simultaneously constructing a network structure of common somatic symptoms and psychological symptoms. Methods: Online investigation was conducted among 665 students from a university of Chinese medicine. Health Status Questionnaire, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and Patient Health Questionnaire-2 (PHQ-2) were used to assess the mental symptoms and physical status of participants. With the R software processing, a network model of psychosomatic symptoms was constructed. Specifically, we computed the predictability (PRE), expected influence (EI), and bridging expected influence (BEI) of each symptom. Meanwhile, the stability and accuracy of the network were evaluated using the case-deletion bootstrap method. Results: Among the participants, 277 (41.65%) subjects exhibited depressive symptoms, and 244 (36.69%) subjects showed symptoms of anxiety. Common somatic symptoms included fatigue, forgetfulness, sighing, thirst, and sweating. Within the psychosomatic symptoms network, "worrying too much about things", "uncontrollable worries" and "weakness" exhibited the high EI and PRE, suggesting they are central symptoms. "Little interest or pleasure in doing things," "feeling down, depressed, or hopeless," "dyssomnia," and "sighing" with high BEI values demonstrated that they are bridging symptoms in the comorbid network. Conclusion: The psychosomatic health status of college students in traditional Chinese medicine schools is concerning, showing high tendencies for depression, anxiety, and somatic symptoms. There exists a complex relationship between somatic symptoms and psychological symptoms among students. "Worrying too much about things ", "uncontrollable worries" and "weakness" enable to serve as comorbid intervention targets for anxiety, depression, and somatic symptoms. Addressing "little interest or pleasure in doing things," "feeling down, depressed, or hopeless," "dyssomnia," and "sighing" may effectively prevent the mutual transmission between psychological and physical symptoms. Background: Genetic variants in COL4A2 are less common than those of COL4A1 and their fetal clinical phenotype has not been well described to date. We present a fetus from China with an intronic variant in COL4A2 associated with a prenatal diagnosis of severe cerebral encephalomalacia and subdural hemorrhage. Methods: Whole exome sequencing (WES) was applied to screen potential genetic causes. Bioinformatic analysis was performed to predict the pathogenicity of the variant. In in vitro experiment, the minigene assays were performed to assess the variant's effect. Results: In this proband, we observed ventriculomegaly, subdural hemorrhage, and extensive encephalomalacia that initially suggested cerebral hypoxic-ischemic and/or hemorrhagic lesions. WES identified a de novo heterozygous variant c.549 + 5G > A in COL4A2 gene. This novel variant leads to the skipping of exon 8, which induces the loss of 24 native amino acids, resulting in a shortened COL4A2 protein (p.Pro161_Gly184del). Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that c.549 + 5G > A in COL4A2 gene is a disease-causing variant by aberrant splicing. This finding enriches the variant spectrum of COL4A2 gene, which not only improves the understanding of the fetal neurological disorders associated with hypoxic-ischemic and hemorrhagic lesions from a clinical perspective but also provides guidance on genetic diagnosis and counseling. The judicious selection of capping agents has been proven essential for the one-pot synthesis of high-purity two-dimensional noble-metal nanocrystals. In this study, we highlight the synergistic effect of using lauramidopropylamine oxide, a typical zwitterionic surfactant, in conjunction with the quaternary ammonium surfactant octadecyltrimethylammonium chloride. This pairing facilitates the production of Au nanoplates distinguished by their reduced lateral dimensions (i.e., sub-50 nm) and distinctive atomic packing. This ability to vary the structural features enables the Au nanoplates to exhibit enhanced electrochemical activity for the ethylene glycol oxidation reaction (EGOR) in an alkaline medium, characterized by improved reaction kinetics and prolonged cycling stability. DFT simulations suggested that the lower energy barrier of the rate-determining step on Au(211) compared to Au(111) and Au(100) indicates a higher electrochemical activity for the Au(211) surface. The present work underscores the potential of amine oxide-based zwitterionic surfactants in the controlled synthesis of two-dimensional Au nanocrystals, a method that could be potentially adapted for use with other noble metals and/or alloys. The highly efficient bifunctional chiral electrocatalyst combines a chiral aminocatalyst with a redox mediator. It plays a dual role as a redox mediator for electrooxidation, while simultaneously providing remarkable asymmetric induction for the stereoselective α‐alkylation of aldehydes. Additionally, this novel catalyst exhibits enhanced catalytic activity and excellent stereoselective control comparable to conventional catalytic systems. As a result, this strategy provides a new avenue for versatile asymmetric electrochemistry. The electrooxidation of diverse phenols enables the C−H/C−H oxidative α‐alkylation of aldehydes in a highly chemo‐ and stereoselective fashion. Powder-based piezoelectric catalysts have been widely examined due to their high catalytic activity for applications such as water treatment and dye degradation. However, challenges remain which are associated with secondary pollution as a result of employing a powder-based catalyst. While the use of bulk catalysts can overcome this challenge, their catalytic activity has been shown to decrease significantly compared to fine-scale catalytic powders. In this study, a simple, efficient, cost-effective and in situ approach is developed that is able to successfully retrieve a powder-based catalyst by coating catalytic particles with dopamine and exploiting the interaction between dopamine and a porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) substrate to collect the catalytic particles. Detailed characterisation and molecular dynamics modeling are used to determine the mechanisms of the chemical interactions and piezocatalysis. The universality of this new approach is demonstrated by conducting a range of experiments with a range of ceramic particulates, catalyst morphologies and potential dyes. Using this new strategy, we demonstrate the ability of ferroelectric particles to achieve a high piezocatalytic activity while being anchored onto a porous PVDF layer, thereby limiting secondary pollution. This work therefore provides a novel approach for the retrieval of powder-based catalysts, with potential to expand their application potential to other forms of powder-based catalysts. The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is recognized worldwide as an icon for wildlife conservation. The Qinling subspecies (Ailuropoda melanoleuca qinlingensis) inhabiting the Qinling Mountains is more endangered. Previous studies have indicated that Qinling pandas are potentially at risk from environmental pollutants, which they are exposed to via food and drinking water. However, there is little information about the surface water quality in the Qinling Mountains, and it is unknown whether drinking water is an important pollutant source for pandas. Water samples were collected from five different nature reserves in Qinling, each of which is home to a population of pandas. The samples were analyzed for five essential metals of copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni) and four non-essential metals of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), and mercury (Hg). The concentrations of all heavy metals (HMs) were higher in buffer zones than in the core areas and were highest in Foping and Niuweihe nature reserves. The concentrations of mercury exceeded the water quality standard in the core zone of three reserves, suggesting that NWH (Niuweihe), THS (Tianhuashan), and PHL (Pingheliang) giant panda populations were at risk from mercury toxicity. The accumulation of other elements over time could also pose a serious risk to pandas. Three main sources of pollution were identified: coal combustion, waste incineration, and fertilizer use; traffic-related activities; and metal mining. Background: Transmission-blocking vaccines (TBVs) can effectively prevent the community's spread of malaria by targeting the antigens of mosquito sexual stage parasites. At present, only a few candidate antigens have demonstrated transmission-blocking activity (TBA) potential in P. vivax. Quiescin-sulfhydryl oxidase (QSOX) is a sexual stage protein in the rodent malaria parasite Plasmodium berghei and is associated with a critical role in protein folding by introducing disulfides into unfolded reduced proteins. Here, we reported the immunogenicity and transmission-blocking potency of the PvQSOX in P. vivax. Methods and findings: The full-length recombinant PvQSOX protein (rPvQSOX) was expressed in the Escherichia coli expression system. The anti-rPvQSOX antibodies were generated following immunization with the rPvQSOX in rabbits. A parasite integration of the pvqsox gene into the P. berghei pbqsox gene knockout genome was developed to express full-length PvQSOX protein in P. berghei (Pv-Tr-PbQSOX). In western blot, the anti-rPvQSOX antibodies recognized the native PvQSOX protein expressed in transgenic P. berghei gametocyte and ookinete. In indirect immunofluorescence assays, the fluorescence signal was detected in the sexual stages, including gametocyte, gamete, zygote, and ookinete. Anti-rPvQSOX IgGs obviously inhibited the ookinetes and oocysts development both in vivo and in vitro using transgenic parasites. Direct membrane feeding assays of anti-rPvQSOX antibodies were conducted using four field P. vivax isolates (named isolates #1-4) in Thailand. Oocyst density in mosquitoes was significantly reduced by 32.00, 85.96, 43.52, and 66.03% with rabbit anti-rPvQSOX antibodies, respectively. The antirPvQSOX antibodies also showed a modest reduction of infection prevalence by 15, 15, 20, and 22.22%, respectively, as compared to the control, while the effect was insignificant. The variation in the DMFA results may be unrelated to the genetic polymorphisms. Compared to the P.vivax Salvador (Sal) I strain sequences, the pvqsox in isolate #1 showed no amino acid substitution, whereas isolates #2, #3, and #4 all had the M361I substitution. Introduction: The prevalence of male infertility has been increasing globally, necessitating the search for safe and nontoxic active compounds to alleviate reproductive dysfunction. Although the precise mechanism remains unknown, Cynomorium songaricum Rupr. (CS) extract has protective effects on the reproductive system. The effect of C. songaricum Rupr. flavonoids (CSF) on reproductive injury and testicular mesenchymal stem cell viability in male mice and TM3 cells was investigated. Methods: We explored the possible association between these effects and the testosterone (T) synthesis pathway. Mice were administered cyclophosphamide to induce reproductive damage, followed by CSF administration. Body mass and organ index were recorded. Pathological changes in T and the epididymis were observed using hematoxylin-eosin staining. ELISA measured the serum levels of T, luteinizing hormone (LH), gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), folliclestimulating hormone (FSH), and estradiol (E2) in mice. Fructose and zinc ion levels in the seminal plasma were measured. TM3 cells were treated with Bisphenol A (BPA) and different concentrations of CSF, followed by proliferative evaluations using the CCK-8 assay and T and LH level assessments using ELISA. Furthermore, the expression of steroidogenic enzyme genes and proteins was investigated using western blotting and RT-PCR. Results: CSF exhibited a notable reduction in reproductive damage and improved pathological changes in testicular and epididymal tissues. CSF group demonstrated substantially higher levels of seminal plasma fructose and zinc ions; markedly elevated serum levels of T, LH, GnRH, and FSH; and lower levels of E2 than those of the model group. Intracellular T content and secretion of T and LH increase with CSF while effectively mitigating BPA-induced damage to TM3 cells. CSF group exhibited substantially higher gene and protein expression of steroidogenic enzymes than those of the model group, both in vivo and in vitro. CSF ameliorates reproductive impairment by enhancing the expression of pivotal enzymes involved in synthesizing T. Discussion: CSF ameliorates cyclophosphamide-induced reproductive impairment and bisphenol A-induced TM3 cell damage in mice by regulating sex hormone levels in the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal Axis (HPG axis) and upregulating the expression of steroidogenic enzymes. Background and objective: The rupture risk of intracranial aneurysms (IAs) is related to their arterial origin, but whether the di erent segments of the artery have di erent risks and act as independent risk factors is still unknown. Our study aimed to investigate the rupture risk of IAs in di erent arterial segments in a large Chinese cohort. Methods: Imaging and clinical data of consecutive patients with IAs diagnosed by Computed Tomography angiography (CTA) from January 2013 to December 2022 were collected. Two neuroradiologists independently identified ruptured and unruptured IAs based on imaging and medical records. The internal carotid artery (ICA),middle cerebral artery (MCA), anterior cerebral artery (ACA), vertebral artery (VA), and posterior cerebral artery (PCA) were segmented according to the Bouthillier and Fischer segmentation methods. Stenoses of the proximal parent vessel were evaluated and documented. The Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Beijing Tiantan Hospital approved this retrospective study. Results: A total of 3,837 aneurysms {median size 3.5mm [interquartile range (IQR) 2.6--5.1mm]; 532 ruptured} were included in this study from2,968 patients [mean age: 57 years (IQR 50--64); male patients: 1,153]. Ruptured aneurysms were most commonly located in the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) (52.9%), anterior communicating artery (ACoA) (33.8%), other locations (33.3%), ACA (22.4%), and basilar artery (BA) (21.4%). The locations with the highest likelihood of rupture were the C7 ICA (21.3%), M2 MCA (24.0%), distal MCA (25.0%), and A2 ACA (28.1%). IAs originating from the C7 (p < 0.001), dM1 (p = 0.022), and dA1 (p = 0.021) segments were independent risk factors for rupture. IAs without stenosis of the proximal parent vessel were associated with a higher risk of rupture (p = 0.023). Conclusion: There are unique associations between the origins of aneurysms from various arterial segments. Aneurysms originating from the anterior communicating artery (ACoA), BA, PICA, A2, dA, C7, and M2 indicate a higher risk of rupture. Aneurysms originating from C4, C5, and C6 indicate a lower risk of rupture. C7 IAs, ACoA IAs, and PICA IAs seem to be independent risk factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pituitary adenoma is a benign intracranial tumor, commonly found in adults and occasionally in children. Pituitary adenoma is classified into secretory and non-secretory adenoma based on whether there is abnormal hormone secretion. The main manifestations include endocrine system abnormalities, visual disturbance and symptoms of intracranial hypertension. Although the incidence rate of pituitary adenoma in children is low, its physiological and psychological impact on children is obvious, diagnostic and therapeutic process is unique, and it has some characteristics, more complicated differential diagnosis than adults, such as more endocrine symptoms, poor paranasal sinus gasification, the impact of transnasal surgery on developing children, drug therapy and radiotherapy for children and individualization, postoperative endocrine regulation and subsequent development problems, etc.. Northwest China is both an important coal storage base and an ecologically fragile area, and soil water content (SWC) is a key factor limiting the ecological development of Northwest China. Revealing the characteristics of spatial and temporal distribution changes of soil water content in mining areas under coal mining disturbance and the influencing mechanism is crucial for the protection of water resources in mining areas. In this study, the soil water content (depth 0–1000 cm) of a typical coal mine subsidence area in the western part of Shendong Coal Group was monitored in situ for 1 year after mining, and the absolute value, variability, and spatial distribution of soil water content were temporally analysed by combining classical statistics, 2D Ordinary Kriging and 3D Empirical Bayesian kriging spatial interpolation. sequence analysis. The results showed that the shallow SWC (0 ~ 60 cm) was distributed horizontally in bands, and gradually increased along the direction from northwest to southeast; with the increase of coal mining time, the absolute value of SWC decreased by 0.81% ~ 33.58%, and the coefficient of variation decreased and then increased, with the range of variation from 2.19% ~ 34.49%. The deep SWC (100 ~ 1000 cm) was stratified vertically and increased with soil depth, and the shallow and deeper soil moisture would gradually migrate to the middle layer under the influence of coal mining. In addition, this paper accurately portrays the three‐dimensional spatial and temporal distribution of soil water content by the 3D EBK model, which further reveals the mechanism of coal mining's influence on soil water content. This study can provide technical and data support for predicting and evaluating the potential impacts of mining activities on the water cycle, and help mining areas to formulate policies for managing and protecting water resources. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the long‐term survival, causes of death, and prognostic factors in Chinese patients with primary Sjögren syndrome (pSS). Methods: We included patients with pSS registered in the Chinese Rheumatism Data Centre between May 2016 and December 2021, and collected baseline clinical, laboratory, and treatment data. Survival and standard mortality rates were calculated using general population mortality data. Factors related to mortality were identified using Cox proportional hazards regression. Results: Among the 8588 patients included, 274 died during a median follow‐up of 4.0 years. The overall standardized mortality ratio was 1.61 (95% CI: 1.43–1.81). Overall survival rates were 98.2% at 5 years and 93.8% at 10 years. The predominant causes of death were comorbidities, including cardiovascular diseases, tumors, and infections, while the most frequent pSS‐related causes of death were interstitial lung disease (ILD) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Male sex, older age, ILD, PAH, and high EULAR Sjögren's syndrome disease activity index (ESSDAI), thrombocytopenia, anemia, high immunoglobulin A (IgA) level, and glucocorticoid treatment independently increased the mortality risk, while using hydroxychloroquine was a protective factor. Conclusion: Mortality rates have significantly increased in Chinese patients with pSS. Comorbidities, rather than pSS‐related organ damage, were the main causes of death. All‐cause mortality was associated with male sex, older age, ILD, PAH, high ESSDAI, thrombocytopenia, anemia, high IgA level, and glucocorticoid treatment, whereas hydroxychloroquine use might improve the long‐term survival. In this work, we report InAsP-based dislocation filter layers (DFLs) for InP heteroepitaxy on CMOS-standard (001) Si substrates, demonstrating a threading dislocation density of 3.7 × 107 cm−2. The strain introduced by InAsP induces dislocation bending at the InAsP/InP interface, thereby facilitating the reaction and annihilation of dislocations during their lateral glide. Concurrently, the InP spacer exhibits tensile strain, leading to the formation of stacking faults (SFs). With a comprehensive analysis utilizing x-ray diffraction, electron channeling contrast imaging, and transmission electron microscopy, the effects of DFL-induced strain on dislocations and SFs are investigated. Fine-tuning the strain conditions allowed low-dislocation-density while SF-suppressed, anti-phase boundary free InP on Si. This work, therefore, provides a useful buffer engineering scheme for monolithic integration of InP-based electronic and photonic devices onto the industry-standard silicon platform. CF2-containing compounds hold significant potential in drug discovery, organic synthesis, and materials science. However, synthesizing various CF2-containing building blocks from a single compound remains challenging. Here, we present a Cu-catalyzed, switchable defluoroborylation and hydrodefluorination of trifluoromethylated alkynes, yielding four types of CF2-containing compounds. The chemo- and regio-selective sp2/sp3 1,2-diborylation and sp2 monoborylation of 1-(trifluoromethyl)alkynes are controlled by adjusting the solvent and ligand quantity. Additionally, altering the base allows selective generation of gem-difluoroalkenes or difluoromethylalkenes. Notably, our method prevents over-defluorination of the CF3 group on unsaturated C-C bonds during nucleophilic additions, preserving the pharmaceutically valuable CF2 group. Experimental data and density functional theory (DFT) calculations elucidate the regioselectivities of Cu-Bpin addition and the regulatory role of the ligand in selective deborylation processes. Achieving the modular synthesis of various CF2-containing building blocks from a single compound remains a formidable challenge. Background: This study aimed to identify the predictive factors for prolonged length of stay (LOS) in elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients suffering from cerebral infarction (CI) and construct a predictive model to effectively utilize hospital resources. Methods: Clinical data were retrospectively collected from T2DM patients suffering from CI aged ≥65  years who were admitted to five tertiary hospitals in Southwest China. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model and multivariable logistic regression analysis were conducted to identify the independent predictors of prolonged LOS. A nomogram was constructed to visualize the model. The discrimination, calibration, and clinical practicality of the model were evaluated according to the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), calibration curve, decision curve analysis (DCA), and clinical impact curve (CIC). Results: A total of 13,361 patients were included, comprising 6,023, 2,582, and 4,756 patients in the training, internal validation, and external validation sets, respectively. The results revealed that the ACCI score, OP, PI, analgesics use, antibiotics use, psychotropic drug use, insurance type, and ALB were independent predictors for prolonged LOS. The eight-predictor LASSO logistic regression displayed high prediction ability, with an AUROC of 0.725 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.710-0.739), a sensitivity of 0.662 (95% CI: 0.639- 0.686), and a specificity of 0.675 (95% CI: 0.661-0.689). The calibration curve (bootstraps = 1,000) showed good calibration. In addition, the DCA and CIC also indicated good clinical practicality. Nicosulfuron, a widely utilized herbicide, is detrimental to some maize varieties due to their sensitivity. Developing tolerant varieties with resistance genes is an economical and effective way to alleviate phytotoxicity. In this study, map-based cloning revealed that the maize resistance gene to nicosulfuron is Zm00001eb214410 (CYP81A9), which encodes a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase. qRT-PCR results showed that CYP81A9 expression in the susceptible line JS188 was significantly reduced compared to the resistant line B73 during 0-192 hours following 80 mg/L nicosulfuron spraying. Meanwhile, a CYP81A9 overexpression line exhibited normal growth under a 20-fold nicosulfuron concentration (1600 mg/L), while the transgenic acceptor background material Zong31 did not survive. Correspondingly, silencing CYP81A9 through CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis and premature transcription termination mutant EMS4-06e182 resulted in the loss of nicosulfuron resistance in maize. Acetolactate Synthase (ALS), the target enzyme of nicosulfuron, exhibited significantly reduced activity in the roots, stems, and leaves of susceptible maize post-nicosulfuron spraying. The CYP81A9 expression in the susceptible material was positively correlated with ALS activity in vivo. Therefore, this study identified CYP81A9 as the key gene regulating nicosulfuron resistance in maize and discovered three distinct haplotypes of CYP81A9, thereby laying a solid foundation for further exploration of the underlying resistance mechanisms. Multi-wall carbon nanotube filled shape memory polymer composite (MWCNT/SMC) possessed enhanced modulus, strength, and electric conductivity, as well as excellent electrothermal shape memory properties, showing wide design scenarios and engineering application prospects. The thermoelectrically triggered shape memory process contains complex multi-physical mechanisms, especially when coupled with finite deformation rooted on micro-mechanisms. A multi-physical finite deformation model is necessary to get a deep understanding on the coupled electro-thermomechanical properties of electrothermal shape memory composites (ESMCs), beneficial to its design and wide application. Taking into consideration of micro-physical mechanisms of the MWCNTs interacting with double-chain networks, a finite deformation theoretical model is developed in this work based on two superimposed network chains of physically crosslinked network formed among MWCNTs and the chemically crosslinked network. An intact crosslinked chemical network is considered featuring with entropic-hyperelastic properties, superimposed with a physically crosslinked network where percolation theory is based on electric conductivity and electric-heating mechanisms. The model is calibrated by experiments and used for shape recoveries triggered by heating and electric fields. To realize fully integrated silicon photonics (Si photonics), reliable III–V light sources that can be efficiently coupled with Si/SiN waveguides are essential. Here, based on a monolithic InP/silicon-on-insulator (SOI) platform, we developed a selective regrowth scheme and constructed a regrowth platform for on-chip lasers that can be efficiently coupled with Si/SiN waveguides. InP and InGaAs/InP multi-quantum wells (MQWs) were regrown on the regrowth template on SOI as well as patterned commercial InP wafers in the same growth run for comparison. A flat (001) top surface after regrowth with a low roughness of 0.38 nm was obtained on SOI. Benefitting from the high quality of MQWs regrowth, strong photoluminescence emission at telecom band can be obtained on both growth templates. Also, multi-wavelength emission on the same chip can be potentially achieved by designing various regrowth openings. Furthermore, the large material volume with vertical stacking structure and intimate placement of MQWs and the Si layer of SOI allow for the potential demonstration of electrically pumped lasers and efficient light coupling between them and Si/SiN waveguides. Deprotection of amides is a virtually universal transformation in organic synthesis, often employing traditional active reductants such as SmI2, hydrosilanes, hydroboranes or H2 under high-pressure. Herein, we describe a green and sustainable electrocatalytic hydrolysis of amides utilizing water as the hydrogen source, thereby ideally avoiding the use of high-pressure and flammable hydrogen gas or other toxic and costly hydrogen donors. Our methodology utilized green electrons as reductants, facilitating highly selective and efficient electrocatalytic C–N hydrolysis of amides. This environmentally friendly electrochemical approach can also be successfully applied to the C–N hydrolysis of carbamates, formamides, and thioamides. Furthermore, this method extends to the dissociation of O–N and N–N bonds, exhibiting a wide scope and high functional group tolerance. Preliminary mechanistic studies support a proposed mechanism involving the electroreductive conversion of the carbonyl group into a hemiaminal intermediate, which subsequently collapses to yield free amines. Hydrogen production from seawater remains challenging due to the deactivation of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrode under high current density. To overcome the activity-stability trade-offs in transition-metal sulfides, we propose a strategy to engineer sulfur migration by constructing a nickel-cobalt sulfides heterostructure with nitrogen-doped carbon shell encapsulation (CN@NiCoS) electrocatalyst. State-of-the-art ex situ/in situ characterizations and density functional theory calculations reveal the restructuring of the CN@NiCoS interface, clearly identifying dynamic sulfur migration. The NiCoS heterostructure stimulates sulfur migration by creating sulfur vacancies at the Ni3S2-Co9S8 heterointerface, while the migrated sulfur atoms are subsequently captured by the CN shell via strong C-S bond, preventing sulfide dissolution into alkaline electrolyte. Remarkably, the dynamically formed sulfur-doped CN shell and sulfur vacancies pairing sites significantly enhances HER activity by altering the d-band center near Fermi level, resulting in a low overpotential of 4.6 and 8 mV at 10 mA cm−2 in alkaline freshwater and seawater media, and long-term stability up to 1000 h. This work thus provides a guidance for the design of high-performance HER electrocatalyst by engineering interfacial atomic migration. Background: Previous research has hinted at a crucial link between gut microbiota and arterial embolism and thrombosis, yet the causal relationship remains enigmatic. To gain a deeper understanding, we aimed to comprehensively explore the causal relationship and elucidate the impact of the gut microbiota on the risk through a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study. Methods: Genetic instrumental variables for gut microbiota were identified from a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 18,340 participants. Summary statistics for IBS were drawn from a GWAS including 1,076 cases and 381,997 controls. We used the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method as the primary analysis. To test the robustness of our results, we further performed the weighted median method, MR-Egger regression, and MR pleiotropy residual sum and outlier test. Results: We identified three bacterial traits that were associated with the risk of arterial embolism and thrombosis: odds ratio (OR): 1.58, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.08-2.31, p = 0.017 for genus Catenibacterium; OR: 0.64, 95% CI: 0.42-0.96, p = 0.031 for genus Dialister; and OR: 2.08, 95% CI: 1.25-3.47, p = 0.005 for genus Odoribacter. The results of sensitivity analyses for these bacterial traits were consistent (P<0.05). Conclusion: Our systematic analyses provided evidence to support a potential causal relationship between several gut microbiota taxa and the risk of arterial embolism and thrombosis. The dried rattan stem of the Fibraurea Recisa Pierre plant contains the active ingredient known as fibrauretine (FN). Although it greatly affects Alzheimer's disease (AD), the mechanism of their effects still remains unclear. Proteomics and transcriptomics analysis methods were used in this study to determine the mechanism of FN in the treatment of AD. AD model is used through bilateral hippocampal injection of Aβ1-40. After successful modeling, FN was given for 30 days. The results showed that FN could improve the cognitive dysfunction of AD model rats, reduce the expression of Aβ and P-Tau, increase the content of acetylcholine and reduce the activity of acetylcholinesterase. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enriched differentially expressed genes and proteins are involved in signaling pathways including metabolic pathway, AD, pathway in cancer, PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, and cAMP signaling pathway. Transcriptomics and proteomics sequencing resulted in 19 differentially expressed genes and proteins. Finally, in contrast to the model group, after FN treatment, the protein expressions and genes associated with the PI3K-AKT pathway were significantly improved in RT-qPCR and Western blot and assays. This is consistent with the findings of transcriptomic and proteomic analyses. Our study found that, FN may improve some symptoms of AD model rats through PI3K-AKT signaling pathway. Temperature is a crucial factor influencing the accuracy of the hydrostatic leveling system (HLS), necessitating a temperature compensation test for HLS. This paper investigates HLS temperature compensation through theoretical correction and experimental verification. The influence of temperature on the accuracy of hydrostatic level products is determined through temperature tests on 34 hydrostatic level products. The optimal temperature compensation formula is derived using the non-linear curve fitting method. The HLS is enhanced with a temperature compensation algorithm and temperature sensor, resulting in a new, high-precision, and high-stability hydrostatic leveling product with temperature compensation. Experimental findings reveal that the stability of the improved hydrostatic leveling product exceeds 30% compared to products on the market and surpasses 70% compared to the original products. Due to the limited maximum output power of the pulsers based on avalanche transistors, high-power ultrawideband (UWB) radiation systems usually synthesize plenty of modules simultaneously to achieve a high peak effective potential (rEp). However, this would lead to an increased aperture size as well as a narrower beam, which would limit their applications in intentional electromagnetic interference fields. In this paper, a high-power UWB radiation system with beam broadening capacity is developed. To achieve beam broadening in the time domain, a power-law time delay distribution method is proposed and studied by simulation, and then the relative excitation time delays of the modules are optimized to achieve higher rEp and avoid beam splitting in the beam broadening mode. In order to avoid false triggering of the pulser elements when implementing the beam broadening, the mutual coupling effect in the system is analyzed and suppressed by employing onboard high-pass filters, since the mutual coupling effect is much more severe in the low-frequency range. Finally, a radiation system with 36 modules is developed. Measuring results indicate that in the high-rEp mode, the developed system could achieve a maximum effective potential rEp of 313.6 kV and a maximum pulse-repetition-rate of 20 kHz. In the beam broadening mode, its half-peak-power beam width in the H-plane is broadened from the original value of 3.9° to 7.9°, with a maximum rEp of 272.9 kV. With the intensification of the energy crisis, it is urgent to vigorously develop new environment-friendly energy storage materials. In this work, coexisting ferroelectric and relaxor-ferroelectric phases at a nanoscale were constructed in Sr(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3 (SZN)-modified (Bi0.5Na0.5)0.94Ba0.06TiO3 (BNBT) ceramics, simultaneously contributing to large polarization and breakdown electric field and giving rise to a superior energy storage performance. Herein, a high recoverable energy density (Wrec) of 5.0 J/cm3 with a conversion efficiency of 82% at 370 kV/cm, a practical discharged energy density (Wd) of 1.74 J/cm3 at 230 kV/cm, a large power density (PD) of 157.84 MW/cm3, and an ultrafast discharge speed (t0.9) of 40 ns were achieved in the 0.85BNBT-0.15SZN ceramics characterized by the coexistence of a rhombohedral-tetragonal phase (ferroelectric state) and a pseudo-cubic phase (relaxor-ferroelectric state). Furthermore, the 0.85BNBT-0.15SZN ceramics also exhibited excellent temperature stability (25-120 °C) and cycling stability (104 cycles) of their energy storage properties. This paper presents a quasi-steady-state analytical model of the plasma conduction region of a spherical target, and the model is used to analyze the factors that influence the mass ablation rate during laser ablation. Unlike in the case of planar geometry, the mass ablation rate changes as the distance to the ablation front increases. For the plasma in the heat-conduction region of the spherical target under certain conditions, the new analytical model provides relevant parameters such as the density, pressure, and sound velocity, and its results align with those from one-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations. Background: The recurrence rate of extramammary Paget disease after surgical resection is high due to the lesions' poorly delineated and unclear margins. Aim: To evaluate the impact of non-invasive tumour margin detection via photodynamic diagnosis plus reflectance confocal microscopy on the surgical outcomes of patients with extramammary Paget disease. Methods: Thirty-six patients with histopathologically confirmed primary extramammary Paget disease between January 2017 and June 2018 were included in this study. The skin lesion margins were preoperatively observed using the naked eye, photodynamic diagnosis, and reflectance confocal microscopy. An incision was made 0.5–2 cm from the outermost non-in- vasive detection marker line. The incision depth was more significant than the follicle level or the deepest level affected by the tumour in the biopsy specimens. After the skin lesions were removed, a pathological examination of the specimens was conducted to ensure clear margins to prevent tumour recurrence and metastases. Results: A total of 166 good-quality tissue sections were selected from 36 patients. The tumour surfaces and deep margins were within the scope of resection. Six patients (6/36, 15.4%) experienced local recurrence 2–12 months postoperatively. One patient (1/36, 2.8%) had lymph node metastasis without local recurrence 36 months postoperatively and died 50 months postoperatively (1/36, 2.8%). Limitations: This study is limited by the small patient population, especially the number of patients with mucous membrane involvement. Conclusion: Using photodynamic diagnosis plus reflectance confocal microscopy to detect the margins of extramammary Pag- et disease lesions non-invasively reduces the postoperative tumour recurrence rate and is a valuable guide for tumour treatment. The transcription factors of WRKY genes play essential roles in plant growth, stress responses, and metabolite biosynthesis. Erigeron breviscapus, a traditional Chinese herb, is abundant in flavonoids and has been used for centuries to treat cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, the WRKY transcription factors that regulate flavonoid biosynthesis in E. breviscapus remain unknown. In this study, a total of 75 EbWRKY transcription factors were predicted through comprehensive genome-wide characterization of E. breviscapus and the chromosomal localization of each EbWRKY gene was investigated. RNA sequencing revealed transient responses of 74 predicted EbWRKY genes to exogenous abscisic acid (ABA), salicylic acid (SA), and gibberellin 3 (GA3) after 4 h of treatment. In contrast, the expression of key structural genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis increased after 4 h in GA3 treatment. However, the content of flavonoid metabolites in leaves significantly increased at 12 h. The qRT-PCR results showed that the expression patterns of EbWRKY11, EbWRKY30, EbWRKY31, EbWRKY36, and EbWRKY44 transcription factors exhibited a high degree of similarity to the 11 structural genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis. Protein-DNA interactions were performed between the key genes involved in scutellarin biosynthesis and candidate WRKYs. The result showed that F7GAT interacts with EbWRKY11, EbWRKY36, and EbWRKY44, while EbF6H has a selfactivation function. This study provides comprehensive information on the regulatory control network of flavonoid accumulation mechanisms, offering valuable insights for breeding E. breviscapus varieties with enhanced scutellarin content. Introduction: Pathological changes in the articular cartilage (AC) and synovium are major manifestations of osteoarthritis (OA) and are strongly associated with pain and functional limitations. Exosome-derived microRNAs (miRNAs) are crucial regulatory factors in intercellular communication and can influence the progression of OA by participating in the degradation of chondrocytes and the phenotypic transformation in the polarization of synovial macrophages. However, the specific relationships and pathways of action of exosomal miRNAs in the pathological progression of OA in both cartilage and synovium remain unclear. Methods: This study evaluates the effects of fibroblast-like synoviocyte (FLS)- derived exosomes (FLS-Exos), influenced by miR-146a, on AC degradation and synovial macrophage polarization. We investigated the targeted relationship between miR-146a and TRAF6, both in vivo and in vitro, along with the involvement of the NF-κB signaling pathway. Results: The expression of miR-146a in the synovial exosomes of OA rats was significantly higher than in healthy rats. In vitro, the upregulation of miR-146a reduced chondrocyte apoptosis, whereas its downregulation had the opposite effect. In vivo, exosomes derived from miR-146a-overexpressing FLSs (miR- 146a-FLS-Exos) reduced AC injury and chondrocyte apoptosis in OA. Furthermore, synovial proliferation was reduced, and the polarization of synovial macrophages shifted from M1 to M2. Mechanistically, the expression of TRAF6 was inhibited by targeting miR-146a, thereby modulating the Toll-like receptor 4/TRAF6/NF-κB pathway in the innate immune response. Discussion: These findings suggest that miR-146a, mediated through FLS-Exos, may alleviate OA progression by modulating cartilage degradation and macrophage polarization, implicating the NF-κB pathway in the innate immune response. These insights highlight the therapeutic potential of miR-146a as a protective agent in OA, underscoring the importance of exosomal miRNAs in the pathogenesis and potential treatment of the disease. Background and objective: Current data on the optimal treatment modality for ruptured anterior communicating artery (AComA) aneurysms are limited. We conducted this multicenter retrospective study to evaluate the safety and clinical outcomes of endovascular treatment (EVT) and microsurgical clipping (MC) for the treatment of ruptured AComA patients. Methods: Patients with ruptured AComA aneurysms were screened from the Chinese Multicenter Cerebral Aneurysm Database. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to adjust for baseline characteristic imbalances between the EVT and MC groups. The safety outcomes included total procedural complications, procedure-related morbidity/death and remedial procedure for complication. The primary clinical outcome was 2-year functional independence measured by the modified Rankin scale (mRS) score. Results: The analysis included 893 patients with ruptured AComA aneurysms (EVT: 549; MC: 346). PSM yielded 275 pairs of patients in the EVT and MC cohorts for comparison. Decompressive craniectomy being more prevalent in the MC group (19.3% vs. 1.5%, p< 0.001). Safety data revealed a lower rate of total procedural complications (odds ratio [OR] = 0.62, 95% CI 0.39-0.99; p= 0.044) in the EVT group and similar rates of procedure-related morbidity/ death (OR = 0.91, 95% CI 0.48-1.73; p= 0.880) and remedial procedure for complication (OR = 1.35, 95% CI 0.51-3.69, p= 0.657) between the groups. Compared with that of MC patients, EVT patients had a greater likelihood of functional independence (mRS score 0-2) at discharge (OR = 1.68, 95% CI 1.142.50; p = 0.008) and at 2years (OR = 1.89, 95% CI 1.20-3.00; p = 0.005), a lower incidence of 2-year all-cause mortality (OR = 0.54, 95% CI 0.31-0.93; p = 0.023) and a similar rate of retreatment (OR = 1.00, 95% CI 0.23-4.40; p = 1.000). Conclusion: Clinical outcomes after treatment for ruptured AComA aneurysms appear to be superior to those after treatment with MC, with fewer overall procedure-related complications and no increase in the retreatment rate. Urban green spaces are vital for older people's health. However, most studies have only focused on their relationship with single-dimensional health outcomes. This study introduced a theoretical model to explore how perceptions of green spaces influence older people's multidimensional health, mediated by the use of these spaces. Using a literature review, interviews, and surveys, we developed and refined a measurement scale for older people's perceptions of urban greenery. Using data from 513 seniors in Fuzhou's urban parks, structural equation modeling was used to examine the relationships between their multidimensional health, usage, and perceptions of green spaces. The results showed that older people's positive evaluations of green spaces, especially those with facilities, significantly increased their usage. This increased usage positively influences their physical, mental, and social health, with the most pronounced benefits for social health. The total impact of green space perception on multidimensional health was beneficial and significantly impacted social health, even though the direct impacts of quality perception on physical health and facility perception on social health were minimal. These findings enhance our understanding of the impact of green spaces on the health of older individuals and provide a theoretical basis for developing urban green spaces that maximize health advantages for older people. The cuticular wax, acting as the ultimate defense barrier, is essential for the normal morphogenesis of plant organs. Despite this importance, the connection between wax composition and leaf development has not been thoroughly explored. In this study, we characterized a new maize mutant, ragged leaf4 (rgd4), which exhibits crinkled and ragged leaves starting from the sixth leaf stage. The phenotype of rgd4 is conferred by ZmCER1, which encoding an aldehyde decarbonylase involved in wax biosynthesis. ZmCER1 function deficient mutant displayed reduced cuticular wax density and disordered bulliform cells (BCs), while ZmCER1 overexpressing plants exhibited the opposite effects, indicating that ZmCER1 regulates cuticular wax biosynthesis and BCs development. Additionally, as the density of cuticular wax increased, the water loss rate of detached leaf decreases, suggesting that ZmCER1 is positively correlated with plant drought tolerance. Background: Accumulating evidence suggests that the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) population exhibits altered hormone levels, including androgens. However, studies on the regulation of androgens, such as testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), in relation to sex differences in individuals with ASD are limited and inconsistent. We conducted the systematic review with meta-analysis to quantitatively summarise the blood, urine, or saliva androgen data between individuals with ASD and controls. Methods: A systematic search was conducted for eligible studies published before 16 January 2023 in six international and two Chinese databases. We computed summary statistics with a random-effects model. Publication bias was assessed using funnel plots and heterogeneity using I2 statistics. Subgroup analysis was performed by age, sex, sample source, and measurement method to explain the heterogeneity. Results: 17 case-control studies (individuals with ASD, 825; controls, 669) were assessed. Androgen levels were significantly higher in individuals with ASD than that in controls (SMD: 0.27, 95% CI: 0.06-0.48, P=0.01). Subgroup analysis showed significantly elevated levels of urinary total testosterone, urinary DHEA, and free testosterone in individuals with ASD. DHEA level was also significantly elevated in males with ASD. Background: Mechanical ventilation (MV) is often required in critically ill patients. However, prolonged mechanical ventilation can lead to Ventilator-induced diaphragmatic dysfunction (VIDD), resulting in difficulty in extubation after tracheal intubation, prolonged ICU stay, and increased mortality. At present, the incidence of diabetes is high in the world, and the prognosis of diabetic patients with mechanical ventilation is generally poor. Therefore, the role of diabetes in the development of VIDD needs to be discovered. Methods: MV modeling was performed on C57 mice and DB mice, and the control group was set up in each group. After 12 h of mechanical ventilation, the muscle strength of the diaphragm was measured, and the muscle fiber immunofluorescence staining was used to verify the successful establishment of the MV model. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) method was used to detect mRNA expression levels of the diaphragms of each group, and then differential expressed gene analysis, Heatmap analysis, WGCNA analysis, Venn analysis, GO and KEGG enrichment analysis were performed. qRT-PCR was used to verify the expression of the selected mRNAs. Results: Our results showed that, compared with C57 control mice, the muscle strength and muscle fiber cross-sectional area of mice after mechanical ventilation decreased, and DB mice showed more obvious in this respect. RNA-seq showed that these differential expressed (DE) mRNAs were mainly related to genes such as extracellular matrix, collagen, elastic fiber and Fbxo32. GO and KEGG enrichment analysis showed that the signaling pathways associated with diabetes were mainly as follows: extracellular matrix (ECM), protein digestion and absorption, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, calcium signaling pathway, MAPK signaling pathway and AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications, etc. ECM has the closest relationship with VIDD in diabetic mice. The key genes determined by WGCNA and Venn analysis were validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), which exhibited trends similar to those observed by RNA-seq. Conclusion: VIDD can be aggravated in diabetic environment. This study provides new evidence for mRNA changes after mechanical ventilation in diabetic mice, suggesting that ECM and collagen may play an important role in the pathophysiological mechanism and progression of VIDD in diabetic mice, and provides some clues for the research, diagnosis, and treatment of VIDD in diabetic context. In this article, the effect of saturated gases on H2O2 generation and dye degradation is examined using graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) as a piezoelectric catalyst. A detailed catalytic evaluation is carried out using a double-bath sonoreactor, where the performance of g-C3N4 for H2O2 production and degradation of rhodamine B and indigo carmine dyes is evaluated for a range of catalyst dosage levels and saturated gases. Specific gases are selected to understand their role in the sonochemical production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) and to elucidate the catalytic mechanism. The use of an Ar-O2 gas mixture leads to the highest yield for H2O2 production and dye degradation due to the positive effect of argon and oxygen in the generation of H2O2 and ROS, respectively. The presence of nitrogen in both air and in an Ar-air mixture increases H2O2 generation since RNS improves the conversion of •OH into H2O2. In contrast, air and Ar-air negatively influences the generation of ROS, which results in a low rate of dye degradation. In this work, new insights of the mechanisms of sonochemical and piezocatalytic processes in the use of graphitic carbon nitride in catalytic applications are provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
