The intriguing biomineralization process in nature endows the mineralized biological materials with intricate microarchitected structures in a facile and orderly way, which provides an inspiration for processing ceramics. Here, we propose a simple and efficient manufacturing process to fabricate cellular ceramics in programmed cell-based 3D configurations, inspired by the biomineralization process of the diatom frustule. Our approach separates the ingredient synthesis from architecture building, enabling the programmable manufacturing of cellular ceramics with various cell sizes, geometries, densities, metastructures, and constituent elements. Our approach exploits surface tension to capture precursor solutions in the architected cellular lattices, allowing us to control the liquid geometry and manufacture cellular ceramics with high precision. We investigate the geometry parameters for the architected lattices assembled by unit cells and unit columns, both theoretically and experimentally, to guide the 3D fluid interface creation in arranged configurations. We manufacture a series of globally cellular and locally compact piezoceramics, obtaining an enhanced piezoelectric constant and a designed piezoelectric anisotropy. This bioinspired, surface tension-assisted approach has the potential to revolutionize the design and processing of multifarious ceramic materials for structural and functional applications in energy, electronics and biomedicine. Harvesting energy from flow using vortex-induced vibration (VIV) piezoelectric transducers has gained significant attention in recent decades due to their advantages, such as simple structure, blade-less layout, and low maintenance costs. However, most existing studies have focused on designing and analyzing a single piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH), without investigating the fluid-structure interaction and coupling of multiple PEH arrays. Here, we conducted an experimental study using a 2 × 2 PEH array to investigate its dynamic response under different wind speeds and spacings. Results show that the output voltage of the PEH array increases as the vertical spacing decreases, and the maximum average output voltage of 20.6 V per PEH is obtained when the minimum vertical spacing, maximum horizontal spacing, and resonance wind speed conditions are met. Compared to a single PEH, the 2 × 2 array arrangement increases the average output voltage by up to 168%. Additionally, the average output power under the resistance of 1 MΩ increases by 629% to 4.3×10−4 W per PEH, and the maximum output power increases by 792% to 5.3×10−4. Nature abounds with examples of superior mobility through the fusion of aerial and ground movement. Drawing inspiration from such multimodal locomotion, we introduce a high-performance hybrid hopping and flying robot. The proposed robot seamlessly integrates a nano quadcopter with a passive telescopic leg, overcoming limitations of previous jumping mechanisms that rely on stance phase leg actuation. Based on the identified dynamics, a thrust-based control method and detachable active aerodynamic surfaces were devised for the robot to perform continuous jumps with and without position feedback. This unique design and actuation strategy enable tuning of jump height and reduced stance phase duration, leading to agile hopping locomotion. The robot recorded an average vertical hopping speed of 2.38 meters per second at a jump height of 1.63 meters. By harnessing multimodal locomotion, the robot is capable of intermittent midflight jumps that result in substantial instantaneous accelerations and rapid changes in flight direction, offering enhanced agility and versatility in complex environments. The passive leg design holds potential for direct integration with conventional rotorcraft, unlocking seamless hybrid hopping and flying locomotion. This research aims to improve the piezoelectricity of pristine SF by intrinsically growing non‐toxic metal‐free perovskite (MFP) to achieve organic and bendable silk fibroin‐metal free perovskite (SF‐MFP) composite films. The increase in MFP loading has an influence on the resulting morphology and crystallinity of SF‐MFP films. In comparison to pristine SF, the films with the highest perovskite loading exhibit an enhanced normal piezoelectric response of 4.6 pm V−1. The poled SF‐MFP sensors display an appreciable sensitivity of 0.61 ± 0.05 V N−1 with a fast response time and outstanding stability arising from a synergistic combination of mechanically robust SF and piezoelectric MFP. Harnessing abundant kinetic water energy in diverse forms of river flows, ocean waves, tidal currents, raindrops, and others, is highly attractive to ease the energy crisis and satisfy the demands of scattered sensor network nodes in the Internet of things. Among them, raindrops, widely and ubiquitously distributed in nature and ambient living life, have been extensively explored and regarded as significant renewable energy carriers. Extensive efforts have been made to investigate droplet‐based electricity nanogenerators in fundamental mechanism, performance, and applications for achieving sustainable energy demands of the rapidly developing society over the past decade. In this review, we introduce the remarkable progress in this field and discuss the fundamental mechanisms of droplet energy harvesting technology for achieving high‐power generation. More significantly, a systematic review of droplet energy harvesting in different two‐phase interfaces, including liquid–solid, liquid–liquid, and liquid–gas interfaces, is provided. Finally, this survey reveals that droplet‐based electricity generators present vast potential in the power supply. The rapid-developing soft robots and wearable devices require flexible conductive materials to maintain electric functions over a large range of deformations. Considerable efforts are made to develop stretchable conductive materials; little attention is paid to the frequent failures of integrated circuits caused by the interface mismatch of soft substrates and rigid silicon-based microelectronics. Here, we present a stretchable solder with good weldability that can strongly bond with electronic components, benefiting from the hierarchical assemblies of liquid metal particles, small-molecule modulators, and non-covalently crosslinked polymer matrix. Our self-solder shows high conductivity (>2×105 S m−1), extreme stretchability (~1000%, and >600% with chip-integrated), and high toughness (~20 MJ m−3). Additionally, the dynamic interactions within our solder’s surface and interior enable a range of unique features, including ease of integration, component substitution, and circuit recyclability. The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) represents a burgeoning approach for harvesting ambient mechanical energy. However, practical applications suffer from the issues of insufficient charge density and material abrasion. Here, a rotational TENG that attains exceptional output performance and durability in mechanical energy harvesting and couples an ingenious coplanar charge pump by soft contact with a suspended electrostatic induction mode is presented. Thanks to the continuous and synchronous charge injection from the central charge pumping unit, the charge density can be up to 74.62 µC m−2, resulting in an outstanding peak power density of 20.72 W m−2. Moreover, the utilization of yielding polyester fur in the charge pumping unit as a tribo‐layer for soft contact decreases the material abrasion and then enhances durability and robustness. And the experimental results show that the TENG can maintain 99.2% electrical output after 100 000 operating cycles. With the optimized design, the prototype can continuously drive four commercial lamps rated 12 W in series. Furthermore, a wireless powering system is demonstrated to power the electronics, demonstrating an extensive application of the TENG. Nanoparticles, films, and patterns are three critical piezoelectric elements with widespread applications in sensing, actuations, catalysis and energy harvesting. High productivity and large-area fabrication of these functional elements is still a significant challenge, let alone the control of their structures and feature sizes on various substrates. Here, we report a fast and versatile electrostatic disc microprinting, enabled by triggering the instability of liquid-air interface of inks. The printing process allows for fabricating lead zirconate titanate free-standing nanoparticles, films, and micro-patterns. The as-fabricated lead zirconate titanate films exhibit a high piezoelectric strain constant of 560 pm V−1, one to two times higher than the state-of-the-art. The multiplexed tip jetting mode and the large layer-by-layer depositing area can translate into depositing speeds up to 109 μm3 s−1, one order of magnitude faster than current techniques. Printing diversified functional materials, ranging from suspensions of dielectric ceramic and metal nanoparticles, to insulating polymers, to solutions of biological molecules, demonstrates the great potential of the electrostatic disc microprinting in electronics, biotechnology and beyond. Capillary‐enabled water energy harvesters (WEHs) are capable of generating direct‐current electricity continuously. However, active‐metal electrodes can introduce metal–air batteries in these WEHs. Given the nearly identical device structures and output characteristics of these two technologies, it is essential to distinguish between them. Herein, we present a systematic study of the water‐activated metal–air battery (WMB) through theoretical analyses and experimental verifications. We conclude the general formation rules of the WMB from a material and device‐structure perspective. Furthermore, we provide a comparative summary of various WEHs and WMBs for easy identification. Low-resistance contact has long been pursued in the two-dimensional (2D) electronic/optoelectronic device community. Still, an economy-efficient method highly compatible with the conventional 2D device fabrication process in laboratory remains to be explored. Herein, we report a plasma-optimized contact strategy for high-performance PdSe2 nanoflake-based field-effect transistors (FETs). Selenium vacancies created by air plasma can introduce p-type doping in the contact area, thus optimizing the device performance. The effect of plasma treatment on PdSe2 nanoflake is corroborated by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy spectrum, atomic force microscopy, and Kelvin probe force microscopy. The PdSe2 FET with plasma-optimized contact exhibits significantly improved field-effect carrier mobilities, current on/off ratios, and reduced contact resistance than that without plasma treatment fabricated from the same PdSe2 nanoflake. Moreover, this strategy has also been proven effective to prepare high-performance FETs based on 2D WSe2 and MoSe2 nanoflakes, further demonstrating its application prospect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The rainbow trapping effect demonstrates great potential in multiple-band energy harvesting. However, the existing finite-size devices with the rainbow trapping phenomenon hardly harvest energy efficiently due to the mismatch between rainbow trapping frequencies and resonance frequencies of the devices. In this study, for the first time, we report a periodically perforated metamaterial beam, which achieves both the flexural wave rainbow trapping and resonance simultaneously for the multiple-band and multiple-position energy harvesting. The band structure of the unit cell in the metamaterial beam is analyzed to illustrate its ability to realize strong dispersion and energy concentration. The study first indicates that the rainbow trapping effect activated by resonance frequencies causes much more intense spatial separation and localization of flexural waves compared with that by cutoff frequencies for the periodically perforated bare beam. We, then, demonstrate that the resonance rainbow trapping phenomenon allows the proposed design to show superiority in piezoelectric energy harvesting compared with the counterpart with off-resonance rainbow trapping. Simulations indicate that the optimal resistance and the highest output power vary much for different pairs of piezoelectric patches at the corresponding resonance rainbow frequencies; by contrast, the positions of piezoelectric patches have little influence on the performance of the device. The design concept of on-resonance rainbow trapping in metamaterials in this study will help engineers to open a new venue for high-performance piezoelectric energy harvesters. Improving the intrinsic film quality of metal halide perovskites is very critical to increase the power conversion efficiency and long-term stability of perovskite solar cells. Here we report a multifunctional, non-volatile additive that can be used to modulate the kinetics of perovskite film growth through a hydrogen-bond-bridged intermediate phase. The additive enables the formation of large perovskite grains and coherent grain growth from bottom to the surface of the film. The enhanced film morphology results in significantly reduced non-radiative recombinations, thus boosting the power conversion efficiency of inverted (p–i–n) solar cells to 24.8% (24.5% certified) with a low energy loss of 0.36 eV. The unencapsulated devices exhibit improved thermal stability with a T98 lifetime beyond 1,000 h under continuous heating at 65 ± 5 °C in a nitrogen-filled glovebox. This effective approach can also be applied to wide-bandgap perovskites and large-area devices to show reduced voltage loss and high efficiency. A multifunctional additive modulates the kinetics of perovskite film growth, enabling inverted perovskite solar cells with 24.8% power conversion efficiency and enhanced thermal stability. Anthropogenetic environmental deterioration and climate change caused by energy production and consumption pose a significant threat to the future of humanity. Renewable, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective energy sources are becoming increasingly important for addressing future energy demands. Mechanical power is the most common type of external energy that can be converted into useful electric power. Because of its strong electromechanical coupling ability, the piezoelectric mechanism is a far more successful technique for converting mechanics energy to electrical energy when compared to electrostatic, electromagnetic, and triboelectric transduction systems. Currently, the scientific community has maintained a strong interest in piezoelectric micro-power generators because of their great potential for powering a sensor unit in the distributed network nodes. A national network usually has a large mass of sensor units distributed in each city, and a self-powered sensor network is eagerly required. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the development of piezoelectric micro-power generators. The fundamentals of piezoelectric energy conversion, including operational modes and working mechanisms, are introduced. Current research progress in piezoelectric materials including zinc oxide, ceramics, single crystals, organics, composite, bio-inspired and foam materials are reviewed. Piezoelectric energy harvesting at the nano- and microscales, and its applications in a variety of fields such as wind, liquid flow, body movement, implantable and sensing devices are discussed. Highlights: Freestanding lead-free piezoceramic thin films can be derived via water peeling. The d33 value of the freestanding BCZT thin film reaches 209 pm V−1. The freestanding piezoceramic films obtain versatile application scenarios such as energy harvest and virus detection. Most electronics such as sensors, actuators and energy harvesters need piezoceramic films to interconvert mechanical and electrical energy. Transferring the ceramic films from their growth substrates for assembling electronic devices commonly requires chemical or physical etching, which comes at the sacrifice of the substrate materials, film cracks, and environmental contamination. Here, we introduce a van der Waals stripping method to fabricate large-area and freestanding piezoceramic thin films in a simple, green, and cost-effective manner. The introduction of the quasi van der Waals epitaxial platinum layer enables the capillary force of water to drive the separation process of the film and substrate interface. The fabricated lead-free film, Ba 0.85 Ca 0.15 Zr 0.1 Ti 0.9 O 3 (BCZT), shows a high piezoelectric coefficient d33 = 209 ± 10 pm V−1 and outstanding flexibility of maximum strain 2%. The freestanding feature enables a wide application scenario, including micro energy harvesting, and covid-19 spike protein detection. Friction drive and wear control is a tough issue for linear standing-wave ultrasonic motors with intermittent contact and impact friction. For the widely recognized reduction of friction/wear, minimum quantity lubrication was adopted to improve the output performances and services for motors through friction regulation. Given different preload and driving voltages, the mechanical characteristics of motors with minimal quantity lubrication were investigated using a homemade test rig. Results show that output performances and driving efficiency under film lubrication differ from those of dry friction. The optimized driving voltage was reduced by 31.5% and the minimum startup voltage was reduced by 41.67% using film lubrication. Additionally, the output speed increased by 26.29%, and thrust decreased by 41.26% under uniform exciting conditions (e.g., 150 V at 39.14 kHz). The existence of film lubrication broadens the effective frictional contact boundary, and effective friction contribution enhances the driving efficiency (the maximum efficiency of motors increased by 14%). Furthermore, the singularity of the effect of preload is significantly improved after lubrication, and the friction interface of the stator/slider becomes more controllable. Suitable lubrication is critical to the improvement of startup performance and prone to realize low-voltage driving, and the combination of lubrication regulation and wear inhibition is conducive to the durability and reliability of motors. Dental caries and traumatic injuries to teeth may cause irreversible inflammation and eventual death of the dental pulp. Nevertheless, predictably, repair and regeneration of the dentin-pulp complex remain a formidable challenge. In recent years, smart multifunctional materials with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and pro-regenerative properties have emerged as promising approaches to meet this critical clinical need. As a unique class of smart materials, piezoelectric materials have an unprecedented advantage over other stimuli-responsive materials due to their inherent capability to generate electric charges, which have been shown to facilitate both antimicrobial action and tissue regeneration. Nonetheless, studies on piezoelectric biomaterials in the repair and regeneration of the dentin-pulp complex remain limited. In this review, we summarize the biomedical applications of piezoelectric biomaterials in dental applications and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms contributing to the biological effect of piezoelectricity. Electrostatic adsorption is an important complement to the mechanical filtration for high-efficiency air filtering. However, the electrostatic charge decays with time, especially in humid conditions. In this work, a self-charging air filter is presented to capture airborne particles in an efficient and long-lasting manner without the need of external power sources. Leveraging the triboelectric effect between the electrospun poly(vinylidene fluoride) nanofiber film and nylon fabric, the self-charging air filter-based mask excited by breathing can continuously replenish electrostatic charges. As a result, its effective lifespan is up to 60 hours (including 30 hours of wearing), with a minimum filtration efficiency of 95.8% for 0.3-μm particles. The filtration efficiency and lifespan are significantly higher than those of a commercial surgical mask. Furthermore, we uncover the quantitative relation between filtration efficiency and surface electrostatic potential. This work provides an effective strategy to significantly prolong the electrostatic adsorption efficacy for high-performance air-filtering masks. The decay of electrostatic charges largely reduces the protective efficacy of electret masks. Highlights: The growth of high-quality single-crystalline Te nanobelts is reported by introducing atomically flat hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanoflakes into the chemical vapor deposition system as the growth substrate. The field-effect transistor based on Te grown on h-BN exhibits an ultrahigh hole mobility up to 1370 cm2 V−1 s−1 at room temperature. The lack of stable p-type van der Waals (vdW) semiconductors with high hole mobility severely impedes the step of low-dimensional materials entering the industrial circle. Although p-type black phosphorus (bP) and tellurium (Te) have shown promising hole mobilities, the instability under ambient conditions of bP and relatively low hole mobility of Te remain as daunting issues. Here we report the growth of high-quality Te nanobelts on atomically flat hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) for high-performance p-type field-effect transistors (FETs). Importantly, the Te-based FET exhibits an ultrahigh hole mobility up to 1370 cm2 V−1 s−1 at room temperature, that may lay the foundation for the future high-performance p-type 2D FET and metal–oxide–semiconductor (p-MOS) inverter. The vdW h-BN dielectric substrate not only provides an ultra-flat surface without dangling bonds for growth of high-quality Te nanobelts, but also reduces the scattering centers at the interface between the channel material and the dielectric layer, thus resulting in the ultrahigh hole mobility. Wearing masks has been a recommended protective measure due to the risks of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) even in its coming endemic phase. Therefore, deploying a "smart mask" to monitor human physiological signals is highly beneficial for personal and public health. This work presents a smart mask integrating an ultrathin nanocomposite sponge structure‐based soundwave sensor (≈400 µm), which allows the high sensitivity in a wide‐bandwidth dynamic pressure range, i.e., capable of detecting various respiratory sounds of breathing, speaking, and coughing. Thirty‐one subjects test the smart mask in recording their respiratory activities. Machine/deep learning methods, i.e., support vector machine and convolutional neural networks, are used to recognize these activities, which show average macro‐recalls of ≈95% in both individual and generalized models. With rich high‐frequency (≈4000 Hz) information recorded, the two‐/tri‐phase coughs can be mapped while speaking words can be identified, demonstrating that the smart mask can be applicable as a daily wearable Internet of Things (IoT) device for respiratory disease identification, voice interaction tool, etc. in the future. This work bridges the technological gap between ultra‐lightweight but high‐frequency response sensor material fabrication, signal transduction and processing, and machining/deep learning to demonstrate a wearable device for potential applications in continual health monitoring in daily life. Piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH) arrays are practical solutions to the low and unreliable power output of a single PEH. However, most PEH circuits are developed for addressing the one-channel ac input from a single PEH. In this article, an extensible rectifier-less synchronized switch harvesting on inductor (ReL-SSHI) array interface with the maximal power point tracking (MPPT) function to manage the multiple ac inputs from the PEH arrays is designed. The ac–dc conversion is performed by the ReL-SSHI topology with passive peak switches featured with self-powered characteristic and fast cold-start. Only one shared inductor is employed, greatly reducing the circuit volume and cost. The MPPT module for each channel is implemented by a simple envelope detector and an ultra-low power hysteresis controller and achieves continuous energy extraction by adapting the fractional normal-operation voltage method. A developed discrete array interface able to handle three PEHs effectively executes the MPPT for each channel with the uphill and downhill response speeds of 2.0 and 7.1 V/s, and a maximal MPPT efficiency of 97.1%. This circuit boosts the power output by 485% compared with that by the traditional full-bridge rectifier, around 33% higher than that from existing synchronous electric charge extraction array interfaces. Piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH) arrays are promising in many application scenarios. However, few interface circuits have been developed to manage the multiple ac inputs from PEHs. This article proposes an extensible parallel synchronized switch harvesting on inductor array interface scheme to realize a multiinput conversion from PEH arrays. We develop a split-inductor-capacitor topology that can extract electrical energy from multiple PEHs. The proposed circuit topology effectively handles the inductor access conflict in the cases of PEHs with close, identical, and opposite vibration phases, insensitive to ac input phase changes. For demonstrating the capability of dealing with multiple ac inputs from PEHs and the enhancement effect on power output, we construct and test a self-powered three-channel array circuit with the passive peak detection function. Excited by sinusoidal vibrations, our circuit effectively avoids the energy return and efficiently achieves the power combination of the three PEHs. Compared with the classic full-bridge circuit, the proposed circuit helps increase the power output by 4.8 times. To achieve a good control of the growth and molecular functionality of SAMs, we develop a co‐assembled monolayer (co‐SAM) for obtaining efficient hole selection and suppressed recombination at the hole‐selective interface in inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs). By engineering the position of methoxy substituents, an aligned energy level and favorable dipole moment can be obtained in our newly synthesized SAM, ((2,7‐dimethoxy‐9H‐carbazol‐9‐yl) methyl) phosphonic acid (DC‐PA). An alkyl ammonium containing SAM is co‐assembled to further optimize the surface functionalization and interaction with perovskite layer on top. A champion device with an excellent power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 23.59 % and improved device stability are achieved. Piezoceramic films are an essential class of energy‐conversion materials that have been widely used in the electronics industry. Although current methods create a great freedom for fabricating high‐quality piezoceramic films, it requires well‐controlled synthesis conditions, including special high‐cost equipment and planar substrates particularly. The limited substrate selections hinder the applications of piezoceramic films in 3D conformal structures where most objects possess complex curvilinear surfaces. To overcome such limitations, a fast, energy‐efficient, and cost‐effective approach, named flame treated spray (FTS) coating, is developed for preparing piezoceramic films on free‐form surfaces. The flame treatment significantly enhances the hydrophilicity of a substrate, assisting in forming a uniform and continuous thin film. The followed spray coating deposits hundreds of nanometers to several micrometers thick films on 3D free‐form surfaces. Given the size controllability and arbitrary surface compatibility of the FTS method, a highly conformal piezoelectric tactile sensor array (4 × 4) is assembled on a spherical surface for mimicking robot fingers and an on‐site thin‐film sensor on the wing of an aircraft model to monitor the vibration in real‐time during flight. Inspired by hand push whisk blenders that are widely used in the kitchen, we here propose an energy harvester that enables conversion of low-frequency translational vibration to high-speed rotations and further generates electricity via the electromagnetic effect. The whisk-inspired energy harvester (W-EH) is composed of an internal thread sleeve, an external thread driving shaft, a spring, and a buoy. Compared with transmission approaches used by the electromagnetic power generators, the proposed design has the superiority of low cost, ultralow operation frequency (lower than 1 Hz), and high-power output. Tests in water indicate that the normalized power density is 300% higher than state of the art. Excited by mimicking ocean waves at 1.5 Hz, the W-EH prototype generates a maximum power of 64.4 mW and succeeds in lighting up 115 LEDs simultaneously, whose power is enough for continuous operations of most wireless sensors. Highly compact and geometrically complex piezoceramics are required by a variety of electromechanical devices owing to their outstanding piezoelectricity, mechanical stability and extended application scenarios. 3D printing is currently the mainstream technology for fabricating geometrically complex piezoceramic components. However, it is hard to print piezoceramics in a curve shape while also keeping its compactness due to restrictions on the ceramic loading and the viscosity of feedstocks. Here, we report a gravity-driven sintering (GDS) process to directly fabricate curved and compact piezoceramics by exploiting gravitational force and high-temperature viscous behavior of sintering ceramic specimens. The sintered lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramics possess curve geometries that can be facilely tuned via the initial mechanical boundary design, and exhibit high piezoelectric properties comparable to those of conventional-sintered compact PZT (d33 = 595 pC/N). In contrast to 3D printing technology, our GDS process is suitable for scale-up production and low-cost production of piezoceramics with diverse curved surfaces. Our GDS strategy is an universal and facile route to fabricate curved piezoceramics and other functional ceramics with no compromise of their functionalities. Fabricating geometrically complex piezoceramics in compact sintered bodies has been difficult to achieve. Softening of piezoelectric materials facilitates the development of flexible wearables and energy harvesting devices. However, as one of the most competitive candidates, piezoelectric ceramic-polymer composites inevitably exhibit reduced power-generation capability and weak mechanical strength due to the mismatch of strength and permittivity between the two phases inside. Herein a flexible, air-permeable, and high-performance piezoceramic textile composite with a mechanically reinforced hierarchical porous structure is introduced. Based on a template-assisted sol-gel method, a three-order hierarchical ceramic textile is constructed by intertwining submillimeter-scale multi-ply ceramic fibers that are further formed by twisting micrometer-scale one-ply ceramic fibrils. Theoretical analysis indicates that large mechanical stress can be easily induced in the multi-order hierarchical structure, which greatly benefits the electrical output. Fabricated samples generate an opencircuit voltage of 128 V, a short-circuit current of 120 μA, and an instantaneous power density of 0.75 mW cm-2, much higher than the previously reported works. The developed multi-order and 3D-interconnected piezoceramic textile shows satisfactory piezoelectricity (d33 of 190 pm V-1), air permeability (45.1 mm s-1), flexibility (Young's modulus of 0.35 GPa), and toughness (0.125 MJ m-3), collectively. Ocean contain abundant clean energies including tidal and wave, but such energies are known for low frequency and large excitation amplitude, posing considerable challenges for high‐efficiency energy conversion. As an emerging technology, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have been widely used in energy harvesting and novel sensor design due to their high sensitivity and flexible structure. Meanwhile, they show great advantages in the low‐frequency environment (<5 Hz), and display great potential for deployment in remote ocean waters, and construction of large‐scale TENG networks. In this review, firstly, the working principle of TENGs and various configurations developed for the marine environment are introduced, which mainly include solid–solid and solid–liquid interfaces. Then, from the viewpoint of power improvement, authors are most concerned about the modification methods of materials such as surface modification, electron injection, and chemical doping. Meanwhile, improved technologies for energy harvesters in marine environment are discussed in detail, such as improving the hydrophobicity and degradation of materials, studying the self‐healing ability of materials, and designing power management circuits. To merge the gap between the low-power output of piezoelectric energy harvesters (PEHs) and the high-power demand of sensors of Internet of Things, researchers recently start to explore PEHs arrays. However, few circuits have been developed to manage the multiple ac inputs from PEHs arrays. This article presents a self-powered PEH array interface circuit based on the synchronized switching and discharging to a storage capacitor through an inductor (SSDCI) technique. The array interface can output a maximum total power greater than the sum of each individual peak power, and achieve a high efficiency when multiple PEHs connect to the SSDCI array circuit. Simulation and experiment are performed to demonstrate the advantages of the SSDCI array interface. The tested results show that the designed SSDCI array circuit achieves an efficiency of 82.3% with three input sources, and allows a gain up to 300% in terms of maximal output power compared to the full-bridge rectifier. In addition, only the peak detection is utilized for the switching control; therefore, the SSDCI array circuit is realized more easily and with fewer components compared to the existing synchronous electric charge extraction array interfaces. Human skin can sense subtle changes of both normal and shear forces (i.e., self-decoupled) and perceive stimuli with finer resolution than the average spacing between mechanoreceptors (i.e., super-resolved). By contrast, existing tactile sensors for robotic applications are inferior, lacking accurate force decoupling and proper spatial resolution at the same time. Here, we present a soft tactile sensor with self-decoupling and super-resolution abilities by designing a sinusoidally magnetized flexible film (with the thickness ~0.5 millimeters), whose deformation can be detected by a Hall sensor according to the change of magnetic flux densities under external forces. The sensor can accurately measure the normal force and the shear force (demonstrated in one dimension) with a single unit and achieve a 60-fold super-resolved accuracy enhanced by deep learning. By mounting our sensor at the fingertip of a robotic gripper, we show that robots can accomplish challenging tasks such as stably grasping fragile objects under external disturbance and threading a needle via teleoperation. This research provides new insight into tactile sensor design and could be beneficial to various applications in robotics field, such as adaptive grasping, dexterous manipulation, and human-robot interaction. Real‐time detection and differentiation of diverse external stimuli with one tactile senor remains a huge challenge and largely restricts the development of electronic skins. Although different sensors have been described based on piezoresistivity, capacitance, and triboelectricity, and these devices are promising for tactile systems, there are few, if any, piezoelectric sensors to be able to distinguish diverse stimuli in real time. Here, a human skin‐inspired piezoelectric tactile sensor array constructed with a multilayer structure and row+column electrodes is reported. Integrated with a signal processor and a logical algorithm, the tactile sensor array achieves to sense and distinguish the magnitude, positions, and modes of diverse external stimuli, including gentle slipping, touching, and bending, in real time. Besides, the unique design overcomes the crosstalk issues existing in other sensors. Pressure sensing and bending sensing tests show that the proposed tactile sensor array possesses the characteristics of high sensitivity (7.7 mV kPa−1), long‐term durability (80 000 cycles), and rapid response time (10 ms) (less than human skin). The tactile sensor array also shows a superior scalability and ease of massive fabrication. This paper presents a modeling and dynamic analysis of a rotational high-efficiency compressive-mode piezoelectric energy harvester (HC-PEH) with partially thickened bow-shaped beams. Based on the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory and the extended Hamilton's principle, the governing equations of the rotational HC-PEH system are formulated. The nonlinear electromechanical coupling partial differential equations of the system are transformed into ordinary differential equations in the truncated modal coordinates. The developed distributed-parameter model is validated against experimental data, and a good agreement is achieved. The stability and the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the rotational HC-PEH system in conditions of different offset distances and preloaded axial forces are investigated by numerical simulation results. A parametric study of the parameters directly related to the system design is also performed to provide fundamental guidance for understanding the electrical output performance and modulating the voltage–rotation speed responses of the harvester. Enabling technologies for harvesting ambient vibration energy have attracted considerable attention in research communities from different disciplines in the last decades. Among the various devices, straight cantilever-based energy harvesters have been widely investigated from the perspective of designs, modeling, simulation and experiments. In this study, we propose curved piezoelectric energy harvesters (PEHs) with variable curvature to further broaden application scenarios. Within the framework of the Euler–Bernoulli beam theory, we develop a distributed-parameter electromechanical coupling model for a curved segmented unimorph with variable curvature by Hamilton's Principle and solve it using the Rayleigh–Ritz method. The convergence and accuracy of the model are validated by finite element simulation and experiments. Based on the proposed model, we perform a systematic parameter study and discuss the effects of the proof mass, Young's modulus of the substrate, the thickness ratio of the substrate to the total thickness, the curvature of the substrate and the piezo patch on the mechanical and electrical responses of the structures. Vortex-induced vibration (VIV) has been widely studied in the fields of vibration control, building construction, and underwater vehicles. Recently, researchers began utilizing the VIV phenomenon for flow energy harvesting. Here, we describe that vortex shedding causes periodic rotational motions and explore these vortex-induced swing (VIS) motions for harvesting flow energy and measuring flow speed. An arc-bluff structure was constructed to enlarge the VIS motions, and a phenomenological model was developed using the Van der Pol equation. Swing characteristics when flow velocities were in the range of (0.15, 0.45) m/s were assessed. Experiments showed that the maximum swing amplitude of the device is 120°, and it converges to 80° as the water velocity increases. The frequency, amplitude, and initial angle curve of the VIS device can be used to represent the water speed vector. The proposed flowmeter showed a flow rate sensitivity of 7∼10 Hz/(m·s−1) in the experimental range. Energy harvester prototypes demonstrated a peak-peak output of 3.28 V in water with a velocity of 0.45 m/s. The soft millirobot is a promising candidate for emerging applications in various in‐vivo/vitro biomedical settings. Despite recent success in its design and actuation, the absence of sensing ability makes it still far from being a reality. Here, a radio frequency identification (RFID) based battery‐less soft millirobot that can move, sense, and communicate remotely by coupling the magnetic and piezoelectric effects is reported. This design integrates the robot actuation and power generation units within a thin multilayer film (<0.5 mm), i.e., a lower magnetic composite limb decorated with multiple feet imparts locomotion and a flexible piezoceramic composite film recovers energy simultaneously. Under a trigger of external magnetic guidance, the millirobot can achieve remote locomotion, environment monitoring, and wireless communication with no requirement of any on‐board battery or external wired power supply. Furthermore, this robot demonstrates the sensing capability in measuring environment temperature and contact interface by two different sensing models, i.e., carried‐on and build‐in sensing mode, respectively. This research represents a remarkable advance in the emerging area of untethered soft robotics, benefiting a broad spectrum of promising applications, such as in‐body monitoring, diagnosis, and drug delivery. Extensive efforts have been made to harvest energy from water in the form of raindrops1–6, river and ocean waves7,8, tides9 and others10–17. However, achieving a high density of electrical power generation is challenging. Traditional hydraulic power generation mainly uses electromagnetic generators that are heavy, bulky, and become inefficient with low water supply. An alternative, the water-droplet/solid-based triboelectric nanogenerator, has so far generated peak power densities of less than one watt per square metre, owing to the limitations imposed by interfacial effects—as seen in characterizations of the charge generation and transfer that occur at solid–liquid1–4 or liquid–liquid5,18 interfaces. Here we develop a device to harvest energy from impinging water droplets by using an architecture that comprises a polytetrafluoroethylene film on an indium tin oxide substrate plus an aluminium electrode. We show that spreading of an impinged water droplet on the device bridges the originally disconnected components into a closed-loop electrical system, transforming the conventional interfacial effect into a bulk effect, and so enhancing the instantaneous power density by several orders of magnitude over equivalent devices that are limited by interfacial effects. A device involving a polytetrafluoroethylene film, an indium tin oxide substrate and an aluminium electrode allows improved electricity generation from water droplets, which bridge the previously disconnected circuit components. Energy harvesting devices that prosper in harsh environments are highly demanded in a wide range of applications ranging from wearable and biomedical devices to self-powered and intelligent systems. Particularly, over the past several years, the innovation of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) that efficiently convert ambient kinetic energy of water droplets or wave power to electricity has received growing attention. One of the main bottlenecks for the practical implications of such devices originates from the fast degradation of the physiochemical properties of interfacial materials under harsh environments. To overcome these challenges, here we report the design of a novel slippery lubricant-impregnated porous surface (SLIPS) based TENG, referred to as SLIPS-TENG, which exhibits many distinctive advantages over conventional design including optical transparency, configurability, self-cleaning, flexibility, and power generation stability, in a wide range of working environments. Unexpectedly, the slippery and configurable lubricant layer not only serves as a unique substrate for liquid/droplet transport and optical transmission, but also for efficient charge transfer. Moreover, we show that there exists a critical thickness in the liquid layer, below which the triboelectric effect is almost identical to that without the presence of such a liquid film. Such an intriguing charge transparency behavior is reminiscent of the wetting transparency and van der Waals potential transparency of graphene previously reported, though the fundamental mechanism remains to be elucidated. We envision that the marriage of these two seemingly totally different arenas (SLIPS and TENG) provides a paradigm shift in the design of robust and versatile energy devices that can be used as a clean and longer-lifetime alternative in various working environments.
