In this paper, we presented the geometrical properties of Smarandache curves on 3-pseudospheres. These curves were examined in the context of the lightcone, de Sitter space, and anti-de Sitter space. By leveraging the curvature relationships between the null curve and its corresponding Smarandache curves, we established necessary and sufficient conditions. Macrophages play a critical role in innate immunity, with approximately 90% of the total macrophage population in the human body residing in the liver. This population encompasses both resident and infiltrating macrophages. Recent studies highlight the pivotal role of liver macrophages in various aspects such as liver inflammation, regeneration, and immune regulation. A novel proinflammatory programmed cell death, pyroptosis, initially identified in macrophages, has garnered substantial attention since its discovery. Studies investigating pyroptosis and inflammation progression have particularly centered around macrophages. In liver diseases, pyroptosis plays an important role in driving the inflammatory response, facilitating the fibrotic process, and promoting tumor progression. Notably, the role of macrophage pyroptosis cannot be understated. This review primarily focuses on the role of macrophage pyroptosis in liver diseases. Background: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies examining differences in the activity of brain networks between the first depressive episode (FDE) and recurrent depressive episode (RDE) are limited. The current study observed and compared the altered functional connectivity (FC) characteristics in the default mode network (DMN), cognitive control network (CCN), and affective network (AN) between the RDE and FDE. In addition, we further investigated the correlation between abnormal FC and clinical symptoms. Methods: We recruited 32 patients with the RDE, 31 patients with the FDE, and 30 healthy controls (HCs). All subjects underwent resting-state fMRI. The seed-based FC method was used to analyze the abnormal brain networks in the DMN, CCN, and ANamong the three groups and further explore the correlation between abnormal FC and clinical symptoms. Results: One-way analysis of variance showed significant differences the FC in the DMN, CCN, and AN among the three groups in the frontal, parietal, temporal, and precuneus lobes and cerebellum. Compared with the RDE group, the FDE group generally showed reduced FC in the DMN, CCN, and AN. Compared with the HC group, the FDE group showed reduced FC in the DMN, CCN, and AN, while the RDE group showed reduced FC only in the DMN and AN. Moreover, the FC in the left posterior cingulate cortices and the right inferior temporal gyrus in the RDE group were positively correlated with the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17), and the FC in the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortices and the right precuneus in the FDE group were negatively correlated with the HAMD-17. Conclusions: The RDE and FDE groups showed multiple abnormal brain networks. However, the alterations of abnormal FC were more extensive and intensive in the FDE group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The decomposition processes of accumulated cyanobacteria can release large amounts of organic carbon and affect the carbon cycling in shallow eutrophic lakes. However, the migration and transformation mechanisms of dissolved carbon (DC) require further study and discussion. In this study, a 73-day laboratory microcosm experiment using suction samplers (Rhizon and syringe) was conducted to understand the migration and transformation of DC during the cyanobacteria decomposition. The decomposition of cyanobacteria biomass caused anoxic and reduction conditions, and changed the acid-base environment in the water column. During the early incubation (days 0-18), a large amount of cyanobacteria-derived particulate organic matter (POM) was decomposed into dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in the overlying water, reaching the highest peak value of 1.82 g L-1 in the treatment added the high cyanobacteria biomass (470 g). After 18 days of incubation, the mineralization of increased DOC to dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) maintained a high DIC level of overlying water in treatments added cyanobacteria biomass. The treatment added the medium cyanobacteria biomass (235 g) presented the lower DOC/total dissolved carbon ratio than the high cyanobacteria biomass associated with the lower mineralization from DOC to DIC. Due to the concentration differences of DIC at water-sediment interface, the main migration of DIC from pore water to overlying water occurred in the treatment without added cyanobacteria biomass. However, the treatments added the cyanobacteria biomass presented the obvious diffusion of DOC and the low migration of DIC at the water-sediment interface. The diffusive fluxes of DOC at the water-sediment interface increased with the cyanobacteria biomass added, reaching the maximum value of 411.01 mg/(m²·d) in the treatment added the high cyanobacteria biomass. In the overlying water, the group added the sediment and medium cyanobacteria biomass presented a faster degradation of cyanobacteria-derived POM to DOC and a higher mineralization level of DOC to DIC than added the medium cyanobacteria biomass without sediment. Therefore, during accumulated cyanobacteria decomposition, the biomass of accumulated cyanobacteria and sediment property can influence the migration and transformation of DC, playing an important role in carbon cycling in shallow eutrophic lakes. China has the second highest global incidence and prevalence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). We describe here the life experience of a rural Chinese farmer with complicated and aggressive TB. It is unclear if this patient contracted MDR-TB initially or developed MDR-TB during treatment because the initial laboratory results are dubious. The lack of public awareness of TB in rural China fuelled by a belief in toxicity of TB treatment, as mentioned by his brother, caused the patient to stop his TB treatment repeatedly long before completion. The cost of MDR-TB treatment in China is unaffordable for most Chinese, especially those in rural areas. He paid about ¥300 000 (almost US$50 000) for his TB treatment. He was discharged early twice for 'financial difficulties'. This case highlights excessive costs, lack of public awareness, poor patient education, inadequate follow-up, lack of coordination between clinical services and the importance of treatment adherence. Background: The association of malnutrition in early life with breast cancer risk has been studied in Europe by investigating survivors of the Dutch Hunger Winter Famine, but not in China. We evaluated the effect of exposure to the 1959-1961 Great Leap Forward famine on subsequent breast cancer risk in Chinese women.Methods: A total of 59,060 women born in 1955~1966 were recruited from Minhang district, Shanghai, China, during the period 2008 to 2012. A baseline survey was conducted to collect demographic characteristics and known risk factors for breast cancer. Incident breast cancers were identified by conducting record linkage with the Shanghai Cancer Registry up to June 30, 2015, and confirmed through medical records. Cumulative probabilities of cancer incidence were evaluated after adjusting for age, educational level and other confounders. Cox regression models were applied to estimate the hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of breast cancer.Results: The overall crude incidence of in situ and invasive breast cancer were 19.2 and 115.0 per 100,000, respectively, in women conceived or born during the famine (1959-1962), slightly higher than those in women born before (1955-1958) (13.2 and 109.8/100,000) and after (1963-1966) (10.4 and 101.5/100,000). Particularly, at age group of 50-52 years when all participants contributed person-year of observations, the age-specific incidence of invasive breast cancer was higher in pre-natal exposed women (123.7/100,000, 95%CI: 94.5-161.9/100,000) than in post-natal exposed (109.6/100,000, 95%CI: 69.1-174.0/100,000) and unexposed women (82.7/100,000, 95%CI: 46.9-145.7/100,000). However, the incidence of cancer in situ was slightly lower in pre-natal exposed women at the age group. Adjusted cumulative probabilities of breast cancer incidence, both in-situ and invasive, were also observed to be higher in women exposed to the famine, however, the difference was not statistically significant.Conclusion: Our results suggest a possible adverse, but limited, impact of exposure to the Great famine on the risk of breast cancer in Chinese women. Layered Eu-doped SnO2 ordered nanoarrays constructed by nanorods with 10 nm diameters and several hundred nanometers length were synthesized by a substrate-free hydrothermal route using alcohol and water mixed solvent of sodium stannate and sodium hydroxide at 200 °C. The Eu dopant acted as a crystal growth inhibitor to prevent the SnO2 nanorods growth up, resulting in tenuous SnO2 nanorods ordered arrays. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed the tetragonal rutile-type structure with a systematic average size reduction and unit cell volume tumescence, while enhancing the residual strain as the Eu-doped content increases. The surface defects that were caused by the incorporation of Eu ions within the surface oxide matrix were observed by high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). The results of the response properties of sensors based on the different levels of Eu-doped SnO2 layered nanoarrays demonstrated that the 0.5 at % Eu-doped SnO2 layered nanorods arrays exhibited an excellent sensing response to methanal at 278 °C. The reasons of the enhanced sensing performance were discussed from the complicated defect surface structure, the large specific surface area, and the excellent catalytic properties of Eu dopant. Two poly(L-lactic acid) prepolymers (PrePLLAs) terminated with HO- and HOOC- groups were synthesized via melt polycondensation from L-lactic acid with or without adipic acid under the catalysis of stannous chloride and p-toluenesulfonic acid. Chain extension of them was carried out at 180 °C using 2,2'-(1,4-phenylene)-bis(2-oxazoline) (PBOX) and adipoyl biscaprolactamate (ABC) as combination chain extenders. High molecular weight chain extended PLLAs were obtained. To improve crystallization, a nylon-610 oligomer (PrePA) was prepared from the reaction of nylon 610 salt with sebacic acid. Polycondensation of a PrePLLA with PrePA was conducted, and several segmented poly(L-lactic acid)-b-polyamide (PLLA-PA) prepolymers were synthesized. Chain extension of them was conducted at 190 °C with PBOX and ABC. Chain extended PLLAPAs (ExtPLLA-PAs) with Mn above 70500 g/mol were synthesized. The ExtPLLA-PAs were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, DSC, TGA, and wide angle X-ray scattering. ExtPLLA-PAs exhibit Tm up to 154.7 °C and initial decomposition temperature over 270.5 °C. Objective: The Minhang district of Shanghai was selected as the subject and its public health management model was investigated. Methods: Minhang became a pilot location for the implementation of the general practitioner responsibility system (GPRS) in 2011. Since then, the management model of public health services in the district has gradually merged with the GPRS through a series of actions: the adjustment of organizations and the coordination mechanism in community public health services, the integration of basic public health services and clinic practice, the establishment of an informationized Internet service platform, comprehensive budgeting management of public health service programs, and performance assessment management of health workers. Results: By the end of 2014, the number of residents who had a contractual relationship with a general practitioner (GP) in Minhang had reached 1.4367 million and all of them had family health records. Compared with 2010, both the rate of maternal management and the rate of children management stayed at high level (⩾96%), the rate of hypertension management increased (40.73% vs. 28.70%), the rate of blood pressure control increased (82.13% vs. 77.51%), the incidence of diabetes decreased (21.93% vs. 37.85%), the rate of effective control of blood glucose for diabetic patients increased (82.43% vs. 62.77%), and the rate of child health management increased (99.79% vs. 91.54%). Conclusion: The GPRS has helped to create a better community health environment. However, the development of this system is limited by several factors, including the following: the shortage of GPs, most GPs do not have good public health service skills and a correct public health concept, unclear division of different services, and imperfect department coordination. However, data regarding HIV related stigma among female sex workers (FSW) in China was limited, with none for comparison between FSW and general migrant women (GMW). Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine HIV related stigma among FSW and GMW in Shanghai, China. Methods: A community based cross-sectional study with face-to-face interviews was conducted in Shanghai (September 2011 through December 2012), using a structured questionnaire. HIV related stigma scores were examined graphically using boxplot. A logistic regression analysis with the proportional odds model was employed to identify factors affecting HIV related stigma scores. Results: A total of 1,396 subjects, including 721 FSW and 675 GMW, were recruited in the present study. Both groups had substantial misconceptions about HIV/AIDS, although FSW had slightly higher scores on average. Both groups showed a medium level of HIV related stigma (38.34 ± 6.21 and 38.35 ± 6.86 for FSW and GMW, respectively). For the FSW, higher levels of stigma were observed for those who were in the older age groups (age 26-35 years, OR, 2.06, 95% CI 1.06-4.01), those who were married (OR, 1.62, 95% CI 1.03-2.54), and those who were working at lower-level sex service sites (OR, 1.60, 95% CI 1.06-2.43). Conversely, HIV knowledge was inversely associated with the level of HIV related stigma (OR, 0.93, 95% CI 0.87-0.98).Among GMW participating in the study, those age in the 26-35 years were more likely to show higher level of stigma (OR, 2.61, 95% CI 1.03-2.54), and HIV knowledge was found to be inversely associated with the HIV related stigma level as well (OR, 0.89, 95% CI 0.84-0.95). There are many evidences to show that different pathogens may interplay each other and cause a variety of mutual influences of epidemics in multiplex networks, but it is still lack of a framework to unify all the different dynamic outcomes of the interactions between the pathogens. We here study this problem and first time present the concept of state-dependent infectious rate, in contrast to the constant infectious rate in previous studies. We consider a model consisting of a two-layered network with one pathogen on the first layer and the other on the second layer, and show that all the different influences between the two pathogens can be given by the different range of parameters in the infectious rates, which includes the cases of mutual enhancement, mutual suppression, and even initial cooperation (suppression) induced final suppression (acceleration). Porous TiO2 micro-tubes were fabricated by a solvothermal method, and the effect of TiO2 micro-tubes on the hydrogen desorption properties of LiBH4 was systematically investigated. It was confirmed that LiBH4 nanoparticles were successfully incorporated into these TiO2 scaffolds via a chemical impregnation method. It was revealed by results of TPD, PCT and DSC that both the lowered desorption temperature and improved kinetics of the desorption rate were due to the synergistic effects of nanoconfinement and destabilization of TiO2. The LiBH4@2TiO2 mixture (the preparation mass ratio is 1 : 2) started to release hydrogen at 180 °C, and the apparent activation energy (Ea) had been reduced from 146 kJ mol-1 (pure LiBH4) to 121.9 kJ mol-1. Moreover, it is interesting that the onset desorption temperature of LiBH4@3TiO2 composite was below 100 °C, reduced by about 300 °C compared to that of pure LiBH4, which was lower than that in most of the current studies about LiBH4. Background Limited information on epidemiologic patterns of KSHV, with none focusing on heterosexual transmission, is available in mainland China. To clarify this, a cross-sectional study was conducted among a group of female sex workers (FSW) and general population women (GW) in Shanghai, China. Methods An anonymous questionnaire interview was administrated among 600 FSW and 600 GW. Blood samples were collected and tested for antibodies to KSHV, HSV-2, HIV, syphilis and HBsAg. Correlates of KSHV and HSV-2 were examined using multiple logistic regression analysis. Results None of the study participants were tested positive for HIV. The seroprevalence of KSHV, HSV-2 , HBV and syphilis was 10.0%, 52.2%, 12.3% and 10.5%, respectively for FSW, and was 11.0%, 15.3%, 9.8% and 2.8%, respectively for GW. KSHV seropositivity was not associated with syphilis and HSV-2 infection as well as sexual practices among either FSW or GW. Nevertheless, HSV-2 infection among FSW was independently associated with being ever married (OR = 1.59; 95% CI: 1.04-2.45), >5 years of prostitution (OR = 2.06; 95%CI: 1.16-3.68) and being syphilis positive (OR = 2.65; 95%CI: 1.43-4.93). HSV-2 infection among GW was independently associated with an age of >35 years (OR = 2.29; 95%CI: 1.07- 4.93), having had more than 2 sex partners in the prior 12 months (OR = 6.44; 95%CI: 1.67- 24.93) and being syphilis positive (OR = 3.94; 95%CI: 1.38-11.23). A gradual increase of prevalence with the prostitution time group was also detected for HSV-2 and syphilis, but not for KSHV. Conclusions KSHV is moderately and equivalently prevalent among FSW and GW. Heterosexual contact is not a predominant route for KSHV transmission among Chinese women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Contamination of environmental matrixes by human and animal wastes containing antibiotics is a growing health concern. Because tetracycline is one of the most widely-used antibiotics in the world, it is important to understand the factors that influence its mobility in soils. This study investigated the effects of pH, background electrolyte cations (Li, Na, K, Ca and Mg), heavy metal Cu and humic acid (HA) on tetracycline adsorption onto kaolinite. Results showed that tetracycline was greatly adsorbed by kaolinite over pH 3-6, then decreased with the increase of pH, indicating that tetracycline adsorption mainly through ion exchange of cations species and complexation of zwitterions species. In the presence of five types of cations (Li, Na, K, Ca and Mg), tetracycline adsorption decreased in accordance with the increasing of atomic radius and valence of metal cations, which suggested that outer-sphere complexes formed between tetracycline and kaolinite, and the existence of competitor ions lead to the decreasing adsorption. The presence of Cu greatly enhanced the adsorption probably by acting as a bridge ion between tetracycline species and the edge sites of kaolinite. HA also showed a major effect on the adsorption: at pH < 6, the presence of HA increased the adsorption, while the addition of HA showed little effect on tetracycline adsorption at higher pH. The soil environmental conditions, like pH, metal cations and soil organic matter, strongly influence the adsorption behavior of tetracycline onto kaolinite and need to be considered when assessing the environmental toxicity of tetracycline. A conventional video file contains a single temporally-ordered sequence of video frames. Clients requesting on-demand streaming of such a file receive (all or intervals of) the same content. For popular files that receive many requests during a file playback time, scalable streaming protocols based on multicast or broadcast have been devised. Such protocols require server and network bandwidth that grow much slower than linearly with the file request rate. This paper considers "nonlinear" video content in which there are parallel sequences of frames. Clients dynamically select which branch of the video they wish to follow, sufficiently ahead of each branch point so as to allow the video to be delivered without jitter. An example might be "choose-your-own-ending" movies. With traditional scalable delivery architectures such as movie theaters or TV broadcasting, such personalization of the delivered video content is very difficult or impossible. It becomes feasible, in principle at least, when the video is streamed to individual clients over a network. For on-demand streaming of nonlinear media, this paper analyzes the minimal server bandwidth requirements, and proposes and evaluates practical scalable delivery protocols. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Previously proposed streaming protocols using broadcast or multicast are able to deliver multimedia files on-demand with required server bandwidth that grows much slower than linearly with request rate, or with the inverse of client start-up delay. The same efficiencies can be achieved for network bandwidth if delivery is over a true broadcast channel. This paper considers the required network bandwidth for on-demand streaming over multicast delivery trees. We consider both simple canonical delivery trees, and more complex cases in which delivery trees are constructed using both existing and new algorithms for randomly generated network topologies and client site locations. Results in this paper quantify the potential savings from use of multicast trees that are configured to minimize network band width rather than the latency to the content server. Further, we determine the network bandwidth usage of particular immediate service and periodic broadcast on-demand streaming protocols.
