Polaritons, part-light-part-matter waves, enable the control of light at the subwavelength scale. Interfacial behaviors play a critical role in polariton manipulation, with negative refraction showing promise for high-resolution focusing. However, reflections pose a substantial challenge, especially in applications where backscattering is unwanted. To address this issue, we propose a structure composed of planar junctions of metasurfaces, each supporting in-plane hyperbolic polaritons with misaligned optical axes. We demonstrate that when the asymptote of the incident hyperbolic isofrequency contours (IFCs) aligns with the interface normal, the reflected waves transform into highly lossy one-dimensional ghost polaritons (HL-1DGPs), channeling energy near the interface. The refracted waves also convert into HL-1DGPs when the outgoing IFC asymptote aligns with the interface normal. Leveraging these phenomena, we design polaritonic lenses and absorbers with greatly reduced reflection. These insights into the interfacial behaviors of hyperbolic polaritons under symmetry breaking have implications for creating polaritonic elements beyond the diffraction limit. Background: Research on diabetes remission has garnered prominence in recent years. However, to date, no pertinent bibliometric study has been published. This study sought to elucidate the current landscape and pinpoint potential new research directions through a bibliometric analysis of diabetes remission. Methods: We perused relevant articles on diabetes remission from January 1, 2000, to April 16, 2023, in the Web of Science. We utilized CiteSpace software and VOSviewer software to construct knowledge maps and undertake analysis of countries, institutional affiliations, author contributions, journals, and keywords. This analysis facilitated the identification of current research foci and forecasting future trends. Results: A total of 970 English articles were procured, and the annual publication volume manifested a steady growth trend. Most of the articles originated from America (n=342, 35.26%), succeeded by China and England. Pertaining to institutions, the University of Newcastle in England proliferated the most articles (n=36, 3.71%). Taylor R authored the most articles (n=35, 3.61%), and his articles were also themost co-cited (n=1756 times). Obesity Surgery dominated in terms of published articles (n=81, 8.35%). "Bariatric surgery" was the most prevalently used keyword. The keyword-clustering map revealed that the research predominantly centered on diabetes remission, type 1 diabetes, bariatric surgery, and lifestyle interventions. The keyword emergence and keyword time-zone maps depicted hotspots and shifts in the domain of diabetes remission. Initially, the hotspots were primarily fundamental experiments probing the feasibilities and mechanisms of diabetes remission, such as transplantation. Over the course, the research trajectory transitioned from basic to clinical concerning diabetes remission through bariatric surgery, lifestyle interventions, and alternative strategies. Conclusion: Over the preceding 20 years, the domain of diabetes remission has flourished globally. Bariatric surgery and lifestyle interventions bestow unique advantages for diabetes remission. Tremendous amounts of materials and energy are transported from the East China Sea (ECS) to the East/Japan Sea (EJS) through the Korea/Tsushima Strait (KTS). Tides undoubtedly play an important role in regulating ocean circulation on the broad continental shelf of the ECS, while the effects of tides on the water exchange between the ECS and EJS remain unclear. Using a three-dimensional Regional Oceanic Modeling System (ROMS) circulation model, we conducted numerical experiments with tides, without tides, and only barotropic tides. The results showed that the water flux across the KTS can increase by up to 13% (in summer) when excluding tides from the numerical simulation. To understand how tidal forcing regulates the KTS water flux, we performed a dynamic diagnostic analysis and revealed that the variation in sea surface height under tidal effect is the main reason for the water flux variation across the KTS. The tidal effect can adjust the sea surface height, weaken the pressure gradient and reduce the water flux across the KTS, which affect the intensity of water exchange between the ECS and EJS. The tidal effect can alter sea level difference between the Taiwan Strait and the KTS, which influences the KTS water flux. Tides can also influence the KTS water flux by altering the sea surface height through interaction with topography and stratification. We also found that tidal effect weakens the northward intrusion of the Yellow Sea Warm Current in winter and in turn enhances the water flux across the KTS according to volume conservation. Background. TMUB1 is a transmembrane protein involved in biological signaling and plays an important role in the stability and transcription of P53. However, its role in tumor remains unknown. Methods. Using R language, the expression level of 33 cancer spectrum TMUB1 was analyzed by the public database TCGA, GEO and HPA, the differential expressed gene (DEG) screening and protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed, and the differential genes of TMUB1 in colon cancer were identified. The relevant signaling pathways were identified by gene functional annotation and enrichment analysis. The ssGSEA algorithm in GSVA were used for immune infiltration analysis. The Kaplan-Meier analysis, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis, nomogram and calibration map analysis were constructed to evaluate the correlation between TMUB1 expression and clinical prognosis. The expression levels of TMUB1 in intestinal cancer cell lines as well as in 10 intestinal cancer tissues were verified by qPCR experiments. Results. Through the bioinformatics analysis of multiple databases and preliminary experimental studies, we found that the expression of TMUB1 was significantly increased in colon cancer tumors, and was correlated with the clinical N stage, pathological grade, lymphatic metastasis and BMI of colon cancer. TMUB1 may be involved in the regulation of the malignant progression of colon cancer. Meanwhile, patients with high expression of TMUB1 mRNA had worse OS and DSS, and TMUB1 expression was an independent prognostic factor for OS and DSS. It was further found that highly expressed TMUB1 tissues showed low levels of immune infiltration and stromal infiltration. Conclusion. We reported the expression level of TMUB1 in colon cancer and analyzed its potential prognostic value in colon cancer through the bioinformatics analysis and preliminary experimental studies. Atherosclerosis is an important cause of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Lipid infiltration, inflammation, and altered vascular stress are the critical mechanisms that cause atherosclerotic plaque formation. The hallmarks of the progression of atherosclerosis include plaque ulceration, rupture, neovascularization, and intraplaque hemorrhage, all of which are closely associated with the occurrence of CVD. Assessing the severity of atherosclerosis and plaque vulnerability is crucial for the prevention and treatment of CVD. Integrating imaging techniques for evaluating the characteristics of atherosclerotic plaques with computer simulations yields insights into plaque inflammation levels, spatial morphology, and intravascular stress distribution, resulting in a more realistic and accurate estimation of plaque state. Here, we review the characteristics and advancing techniques used to analyze intracranial and extracranial atherosclerotic plaques to provide a comprehensive understanding of atheroma. Background: One of the most diverse tumors is pancreatic cancer (PC), which makes predicting the prognosis challenging. PC development is directly related to hypoxia, angiogenesis, and immunotherapy. It is still unclear how the three features are related. Methods: The Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) and the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database were employed to obtain sequencing data for healthy pancreatic tissues and PC tissues, respectively. According to the constructed hypoxic prognostic model (HPM) and angiogenic prognostic model (APM), 4 subtypes of PC were identified. Hypoxia and angiogenesis prognostic model (HAPM) was established based on differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between highangiogenesis/high-hypoxia (HH) and low-angiogenesis/low-hypoxia (LL) subgroups. Base on the median risk score, PC patients were separated into high-risk and low-risk groups, and clinical traits, prognosis, percentage of immune cell infiltration, PD-1 expression, and the fraction of T-cell depletion were compared between the groups. Finally, the predictive accuracy of the tumor immune dysfunction and rejection (TIDE) and tumor inflammatory signature (TIS) models, as well as HAPM, was compared. Result: We analyzed the mRNA sequencing data from 178 PC tissues and 171 normal pancreatic tissues to obtain 9527 DEGs. We discovered 200 genes linked with hypoxia and 36 genes involved with angiogenesis through the literature. We found the core genes related with hypoxia and angiogenesis in PC by intersecting the DEGs of the HH and LL subgroups with those of PC via WGCNA. IL-17 signaling pathway, ECM-receptor interactions, cytokine receptor interactions, etc. were all enriched in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) results of core genes. HAPM has good predictive efficiency, according to an evaluation of KM survival curves and ROC curves. The external dataset also validated the model's ability to anticipate outcomes. Patients in the high- and low-risk groups were compared for PD1 expression and T-cell exclusion scores, which suggested that the model might be used to forecast which PC patients might benefit from immunotherapy. Single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) provides a better understanding of cellular behavior in the context of complex tumor microenvironments by analyzing individual cell populations. Methods: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) data was employed to investigate the metabolic pathways in HCC. Principal component analysis (PCA) and uniform manifold approximation and projection (UMAP) analysis were applied to identify six cell subpopulations, namely, T/NK cells, hepatocytes, macrophages, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and B cells. The gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was performed to explore the existence of pathway heterogeneity across different cell subpopulations. Univariate Cox analysis was used to screen genes differentially related to The Overall Survival in TCGA-LIHC patients based on scRNA-seq and bulk RNA-seq datasets, and LASSO analysis was used to select significant predictors for incorporation into multivariate Cox regression. Connectivity Map (CMap) was applied to analysis drug sensitivity of risk models and targeting of potential compounds in high risk groups. Results: Analysis of TCGA-LIHC survival data revealed the molecular markers associated with HCC prognosis, including MARCKSL1, SPP1, BSG, CCT3, LAGE3, KPNA2, SF3B4, GTPBP4, PON1, CFHR3, and CYP2C9. The RNA expression of 11 prognosis-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in normal human hepatocyte cell line MIHA and HCC cell lines HCC-LM3 and HepG2 were compared by qPCR. Higher KPNA2, LAGE3, SF3B4, CCT3 and GTPBP4 protein expression and lower CYP2C9 and PON1 protein expression in HCC tissues from Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) and Human Protein Atlas (HPA) databases. The results of target compound screening of risk model showed that mercaptopurine is a potential anti-HCC drug. Conclusion: The prognostic genes associated with glucose and lipid metabolic changes in a hepatocyte subpopulation and comparison of liver malignancy cells to normal liver cells may provide insight into the metabolic characteristics of HCC and the potential prognostic biomarkers of tumor-related genes and contribute to developing new treatment strategies for individuals. The geological effects of rock blasting in silt-rock strata are complex, and the vibrations caused by the blasting threaten the safety of inhabitable areas. Based on measured data for the vibrations at the site and dynamic finite element simulations, the propagation characteristics of vibrations in silt-rock strata were studied. The propagation of the vibrations of the surface, the propagation characteristics of the vertical vibration velocities from the surface to the tunnel, and the attenuation of the blasting vibrations along the tunnel's axis were analyzed. The results of this study are as followings: in the direction of the tunnel's axis and in the direction vertical to the tunnel's axis, the peak particle velocities (PPVs) of the surface decreases with increasing horizontal distance from the explosion source. The magnitudes of the PPVs of the surface under five working conditions are the same when the surface particle is right above the center of the explosion source and 10 m away from the center. In the vertical direction from the surface to the explosion source, the vertical direction of the silt-rock strata and the vertical direction of the silt stratum, the PPVs increases gradually with the increasing distance from the surface in the vertical direction. The change in the thickness of the artificial fill and silt in the shield interval strata has little effect on the PPVs along the tunnel's axis. The results of this study provide a reference for identifying the safety distance around the inhabitable areas of rock blasting under similar geological conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a bone malignancy with high incidence. The underlying molecular mechanisms that are associated with the development of OS need further investigation. In this study, we showed that SLC34A2, a member of the solute carrier gene family, was significantly downregulated in OS patients and cell lines. Overexpression of SLC34A2 inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of OS cells. Mechanistically, we found that SLC34A2 interacted with PTEN, and inactivated the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Collectively, our results demonstrated that SLC34A2 plays important roles in regulating the cancer cell growth of OS. We present a model for the mixing width, h, at self-similar stage of the Richtmyer-Meshkov instability (RMI). The derivation of the model is based on the formula of the growth rate of mixing width [Gao et al., Phys. Fluids 28, 114101, (2016)], which is essentially equals to the first principle (Navior-Stokes equation). The model predicts that, in the self-similar mixing stage of the RMI h2 is linearly proportional to time. This is substantially different from the classical h ~ τθ description. Multi-degrees of freedom robot manipulators are widely used in the manufacturing areas. Trajectory planning of the end effector is the most important while the hardest task for the use of the manipulators. An adaptive velocity planning method for multi-degrees of freedom robots with a predefined path is proposed in this article, which is based on interpolation technology. A resolved motion acceleration control strategy based on a fixed-distance movement is proposed, along with an adaptive time interpolation correction algorithm to achieve the speed planning for multi-degrees of freedom manipulators. Besides the accuracy and efficiency, more attentions were paid on the velocity control at turning points along the path, so that a transient vibration and a transient overshoot can be avoided, leading to a stable movement of the robot. A fold line trajectory and a circular-line connected trajectory were implemented on a 6-degrees of freedom robot manipulator. The mixing zone width and its growth rate are of great significance in the study of the Richtmyer-Meshkov instability (RMI). In this paper, a formula for the growth rate of the mixing width is proposed for analysis of the RMI-induced mixing process. A new definition of the mixing width h, based on the mass fraction φ, is used to derive the formula of the growth rate of the mixing width, h. In the derivation, the velocity field and the diffusion term are concisely introduced into the formula by using the mass equation and mass fraction equation. This formula is used together with two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) numerical data to quantitatively study the effects of compressibility and the diffusion process on the development of the RMI. The results based on our simulations show the following. After a shock, the magnitudes of the contributions of compressibility and diffusion to h increase initially, and in the middle stage of the RMI, they appear to attain a maximum value, around 10%; however, under some conditions (e.g., absolute value of Atwood number ~0.9), this value can be more than 10%. The results indicate that compressibility and the diffusion process become important in the later stages of the RMI and the neglect of these physical processes is not always suitable. This study shows that the derived formula is not only an approach for modeling of the mixing zone width but also a quantitative tool for the study of an RMI-induced mixing process. Battery grouping is a technology widely used to improve the performance of battery packs. In this paper, we propose a time series clustering based battery grouping method. The proposed method utilizes the whole battery charge/discharge sequence for battery grouping. The time sequences are first denoised with a wavelet denoising technique. The similarity matrix is then computed with the dynamic time warping distance, and finally the time series are clustered with the affinity propagation algorithm according to the calculated similarity matrices. The silhouette index is utilized for assessing the performance of the proposed battery grouping method. Test results show that the proposed battery grouping method is effective. High-K gate dielectric HfAlO thin films with different temperature annealing treatment have been deposited on the Si substrate by atomic layer deposition. The electrical properties of Hf-films are analysed by measurement of high-frequency capacitance-voltage (C-V ) and leakage current density-voltage (J-V) characteristics. The electrical measurement results indicate the decrease of equivalent oxide thickness (EOT) due to the great change of microstructure and densification after high temperature annealing and the increase of permittivity. However, the interface state density increases. Moreover, the leakage current increases with the increase of annealing temperature. The HfAlO film annealed at 650°C has the best electrical parameters, such as dielectric constant, EOT and leakage current density determined through capacitance-voltage and current density-voltage measurements were 23.5, 0.84, 6.8 × 10-7 mA·cm-2, respectively. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the leading cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide; however, only limited therapeutic treatments are currently available. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of cannabinoids as novel therapeutic targets in HCC. In addition, the mechanism underlying the effects of a synthetic cannabinoid, WIN55, 212-2, on the BEL7402 HCC cell line was investigated. The results demonstrated that WIN55, 212-2 induced cell cycle arrest of the BEL7402 cells at the G0/G1 phase via cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2)-mediated downregulation of phosphorylated-extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK)1/2, upregulation of p27, and downregulation of cyclin D1 and cyclin-dependent kinase 4. Furthermore, inhibition of CB2 with the CB2 antagonist AM630 abrogated WIN55, 212-2-induced cell cycle arrest. Inhibition of ERK1/2 also resulted in cell cycle dysregulation and cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase, which subsequently resulted in cell growth inhibition. In addition, the present study detected a significant reduction in matrix metalloproteinase-9, retinoblastoma protein and E2F1 expression, and migration inhibition by WIN treatment. Background: Mitogen- and Stress-Activated Kinase 1 (MSK1) is a nuclear kinase that serves as active link between extracellular signals and the primary response of gene expression. However, the involvement of MSK1 in malignant transformation and cancer development is not well understood. In this study, we aimed to explore the role of MSK1 in Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) latent membrane protein 1 (LMP1)-promoted carcinogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods: The level of MSK1 phosphorylation at Thr581 was detected by the immunohistochemical analysis in NPC tissues and normal nasopharynx tissues, and its correlation with LMP1 was analyzed in NPC tissues and cell lines. Using MSK1 inhibitor H89 or small interfering RNA (siRNA)-MSK1, the effects of MSK1 on LMP1-promoted CNE1 cell proliferation and transformation were evaluated by CCK-8 assay, flow cytometry and focus-forming assay respectively. Furthermore, the regulatory role of MSK1-mediated histone H3 phosphorylation at Ser10 on the promoter activity and expression of Fra-1 or c-Jun was determined by reporter gene assay and western blotting analysis. Results: Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that the level of MSK1 phosphorylation at Thr581 was significantly higher in the poorly differentiated NPC tissues than that in normal nasopharynx tissues (P < 0.001). Moreover, high level of phosphorylated MSK1 was positively correlated with the expression of LMP1 in NPC tissues (r = 0.393, P = 0.002) and cell lines. MSK1 inhibitor H89 or knockdown of MSK1 by siRNA dramatically suppressed LMP1-promoted CNE1 cell proliferation, which was associated with the induction of cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase. In addition, the anchorage-independent growth promoted by LMP1 was blocked in MSK1 knockdown cells. When the activity or expression of MSK1 was inhibited, LMP1-induced promoter activities of Fra-1 and c-Jun as well as their protein levels were greatly reduced. It was found that only H3 WT, but not mutant H3 S10A, dramatically increased LMP1 induction of Fra-1 and c-Jun genes compared with mock cells.
